The Automotive segment offers electric vehicles, as well as sells automotive regulatory credits; and non-warranty after-sales vehicle, used vehicles, body shop and parts, supercharging, retail merchandise, and vehicle insurance services. This segment also provides sedans and sport utility vehicles through direct and used vehicle sales, a network of Tesla Superchargers, and in-app upgrades; purchase financing and leasing services; services for electric vehicles through its company-owned service locations and Tesla mobile service technicians; and vehicle limited warranties and extended service plans. The Energy Generation and Storage segment engages in the design, manufacture, installation, sale, and leasing of solar energy generation and energy storage products, and related services to residential, commercial, and industrial customers and utilities through its website, stores, and galleries, as well as through a network of channel partners; and provision of service and repairs to its energy product customers, including under warranty, as well as various financing options to its solar customers. The company was formerly known as Tesla Motors, Inc. and changed its name to Tesla, Inc. in February 2017. Tesla, Inc. was incorporated in 2003 and is headquartered in Austin, Texas.

There are high expectations that Musk must meet in order to receive the full package, but it does have implications for Tesla's business and its future direction. Let's unpack those.
What does the proposed package include for Musk?
The package, which shareholders will vote on in November, could reward Musk with up to 423.7 million shares (split into 12 allocations) if the company meets a handful of lofty goals. The first part of the goals has to do with Tesla's market cap.
It would need to hit 12 different market cap targets, with the first being $2 trillion (Tesla's market cap at the time of this writing is close to $1.12 trillion). The subsequent nine targets would be in $500 billion increments, and the final two targets would be $1 trillion increases, with the final goal being $8.5 trillion within 10 years.
Tesla would need to sustain these market cap goals for at least 30 days, and in some cases, trailing-six-month averages.
Aside from the lofty market cap ambitions, the following operating milestones must be met:
20 million vehicles delivered
10 million paid Full Self-Driving (FSD) subscriptions
1 million Optimus robots delivered (starting from Sept. 3 of this year)
1 million driverless robotaxies in commercial service (based on 3-month average)
If any goals are not met by the end of the 10-year program, the associated awards will be forfeited.
Why is Tesla offering Musk such a huge package?
Tesla's current bread and butter is selling its electric vehicles, but that business has been struggling recently as it faces increased competition and falling volume. Its U.S. market share has fallen to its lowest level in eight years. This offer makes one thing clear: Tesla's board of directors wants Musk's sole focus on the company's robotics, autonomy, and artificial intelligence (AI) ambitions.
Selling cars is a notoriously low-margin business. However, software (which is the backbone of Tesla's ambitions) comes with much higher margins and better chances for recurring revenue. If Tesla can scale its FSD subscriptions, establish a viable robotaxi network, and secure a sizable market for its Optimus robots, it could experience a significant improvement in profitability.
Having a revenue mix of car sales and high-margin software and services could dramatically transform Tesla's business for the better.
Will Tesla and Musk achieve these goals?
Anything is possible in the stock market (for better and worse), but Tesla increasing its market cap by more than 7.5 times its current valuation in 10 years would be monumental for a company of its size. And unfortunately, the stock market is irrational, meaning even if Tesla makes progress in autonomous and robotics, there's no guarantee it will lead to significant growth in its valuation, at least in the immediate aftermath of reaching those goals.
That said, with Musk's potential $1 trillion package aside, if Tesla does make progress in those areas, it sets its business up to be a huge force in the tech world for quite some time. Yes, Tesla may be a car company as it stands, but the signs have seemingly always pointed to it wanting to be more of a tech and AI platform than strictly an automaker.
I wouldn't take the offer as a guarantee, but it surely adds a lot of incentive for the company's head honcho to make it happen.

Notable Tuesday Option Activity: CORZ, COIN, TSLA

The HCM Defender 500 Index ETF is seeing unusually high volume in afternoon trading Monday, with over 348,000 shares traded versus three month average volume of about 27,000. Shares of LGH were up about 0.7% on the day.
Components of that ETF with the highest volume on Monday were Nvidia, trading up about 1.8% with over 72.1 million shares changing hands so far this session, and Tesla, down about 0.9% on volume of over 38.8 million shares. Broadcom is the component faring the best Monday, up by about 4.3% on the day, while SBA Communications is lagging other components of the HCM Defender 500 Index ETF, trading lower by about 5.2%.

Monday's ETF with Unusual Volume: LGH

The S&P 500 Index ($SPX) (SPY) today is up +0.17%, the Dow Jones Industrials Index ($DOWI) (DIA) is down -0.23%, and the Nasdaq 100 Index ($IUXX) (QQQ) is up +0.58%. September E-mini S&P futures (ESU25) are up +0.18%, and September E-mini Nasdaq futures (NQU25) are up +0.68%.
Stocks are climbing today on the prospect of a more accommodative Federal Reserve. The 10-year T-note yield fell to a 5-month low today of 4.05%. The markets have fully priced in a 25 bp rate cut by the Fed at next week's FOMC meeting and priced in a 10% chance for a 50 bp rate cut. However, this week's US Aug CPI and PPI reports will show how much room the Fed has to cut interest rates and support the job market. Stocks fell last Friday after the weaker-than-expected US Aug payroll report sparked concerns that the Fed was falling behind in supporting a rapidly cooling US labor market.

Weaker-than-expected trade news from China is negative for global growth prospects after China's Aug exports rose +4.4% y/y, weaker than expectations of +5.5% y/y. Also, Aug imports rose +1.3% y/y, weaker than expectations of +3.4% y/y.
Market focus this week will be on any trade or tariff news. On Tuesday, the BLS will release annual benchmark revisions to US payrolls in the year through March. On Wednesday, Aug PPI final demand is expected to climb +3.3% y/y, unchanged from July, and Aug PPI ex-food and energy is expected to ease to +3.5% y/y from +3.7% y/y in July. On Thursday, Aug CPI is expected to climb to +2.9% y/y from +2.7% y/y in July, and Aug CPI ex-food and energy is expected to increase +3.1% y/y, unchanged from July. Also, weekly initial unemployment claims are expected to fall by -3,000 to 234,000. On Friday, the University of Michigan Sep consumer sentiment index is expected to slip -0.2 to 58.0.
The markets are now pricing in a 13% chance of a 50 bp rate cut at the upcoming FOMC meeting on Sep 16-17, versus the previous expectations of a zero chance of that 50 bp rate cut. After the fully expected -25 bp rate cut at the Sep 16-17 meeting, the markets are now discounting an 81% chance of a second -25 bp rate cut at the Oct 28-29 meeting, up from a 54% chance as of late Thursday. The markets are now pricing in an overall -76 bp rate cut in the federal funds rate by year-end to 3.62% from the current 4.38% rate.
Regarding tariffs, a federal appeals court ruled late last month that President Trump exceeded his authority by imposing global tariffs without Congressional approval, but the court let the tariffs remain in place while appeals continue. The US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit Court said, "The statute bestows significant authority on the President to undertake a number of actions in response to a declared national emergency, but none of these actions explicitly include the power to impose tariffs, duties, or the like, or the power to tax." The case now appears to be headed to the Supreme Court for a final decision. According to Bloomberg Economics, the average US tariff will rise to 15.2% if rates are implemented as announced, up from 13.3% earlier, and significantly higher than the 2.3% in 2024 before the tariffs were announced.
Overseas stock markets today are higher. The Euro Stoxx 50 is up +0.57%. China's Shanghai Composite closed up +0.38%. Japan's Nikkei Stock 225 rose to a 2.5-week high and closed up +1.45%.
Interest Rates
December 10-year T-notes (ZNZ5) are up by +4 ticks. The 10-year T-note yield is down by -2.1 bp to 4.053%. The 10-year T-note yield dropped to a 5-month low today at 4.051% on carryover support from last Friday's weak US unemployment report that bolstered the outlook for Fed easing. Supply pressures are limiting gains in T-note prices as the Treasury will auction $119 billion of T-notes and T-bonds this week, beginning with Tuesday's $58 billion auction of 3-year T-notes.
Concerns about Fed independence are negatively impacting T-note prices due to President Trump's attempt to fire Fed Governor Cook and Stephen Miran's intention to hold a Fed Governor position while remaining technically in his White House role on the Council of Economic Advisors.
European government bond yields today are moving lower. The 10-year German bund yield fell to a 1-month low of 2.640% and is down -2.1 bp to 2.641%. The 10-year UK gilt yield dropped to a 3-week low of 4.616% and is down -2.9 bp to 4.615%.
Swaps are discounting the chances at 1% for a -25 bp rate cut by the ECB at the September 11 policy meeting.
US Stock Movers
The Magnificent Seven stocks are mostly higher today, lifting the broader market. Nvidia (NVDA) is up more than +2% and Meta Platforms (META) is up more than +2%. Also, Alphabet (GOOGL) is up +0.92% and Tesla (TSLA) is up +0.88%. In addition, Microsoft (MSFT) is up +0.77%, and Amazon (AMZN) is up +0.73%. Apple (AAPL) is a laggard, down -0.15%.
Chip stocks are climbing today to provide support to the overall market. Broadcom (AVGO) is up more than +4% and added to last Friday's +9% surge to lead chip stocks higher and gainers in the S&P 500 on news that the company is teaming up with OpenAI to make artificial intelligence accelerators. Also, Lam Research (LRCX) is up more than +2% after the stock received a 30-day upside catalyst watch at Citigroup. In addition, KLA Corp (KLAC), ASML Holding NV (ASML), Marvell Technology (MRVL), ARM Holding NV (ARM), and Applied Materials (AMAT) are up more than +1%.
AppLovin (APP) is up more than +10% to lead gainers in the Nasdaq 100 after S&P Dow Jones Indices announced the stock will replace Caesars Entertainment in the S&P 500 before the start of trading on September 22.
Robinhood Markets (HOOD) is up more than +11% after S&P Dow Jones Indices announced the stock will replace MarketAxess Holdings in the S&P 500 before the start of trading on September 22.
Rapport Therapeutics (RAPP) is up more than +171% after reporting positive topline results from its RAP-219 treatment for focal onset seizures.
Forward Industries (FORD) is up more than 67% after receiving $1.65 billion in cash and stablecoin commitments for a private investment in public equity offering to fund a Solana-focused digital asset treasury strategy.
EchoStar (SATS) is up more than +20% after SpaceX's Starlink agreed to buy wireless spectrum from the company for about $17 billion.
Premier Inc. (PINC) is up more than +8% after Patient Square Capital was said to be exploring an acquisition of the company.
Oracle (ORCL) is up more than +2% after Morgan Stanley raised its price target on the stock to $246 from $175.

Stocks Mostly Higher on Fed Easing Prospects

U.S. President Donald Trump’s unfriendly stance on electric vehicles (EVs) is set to reshape the auto industry. His “Big Beautiful Bill,” passed in July, will end the federal EV tax credits on Sept. 30.
Until then, eligible buyers can still knock $7,500 off the sticker price—on top of other incentives— but once the deadline is here, the perk disappears. Additionally, the bill has scrapped the penalties for automakers who fail to meet Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards.
Just a few years ago, under the Biden administration, automakers were doubling down on EVs. Tax breaks, supportive policies and stricter emissions rules pushed companies to speed up their e-mobility efforts.
But things have changed now. Trump’s rollback of incentives and regulations, along with new tariffs on imported vehicles and parts, is changing the economics of EVs in the United States. The shift is forcing legacy automakers to rethink their electrification plans.
Detroit’s Legacy Carmakers Welcome the Shift
For traditional automakers like General Motors GM and Ford F, the policy change comes as a financial breather. Bloomberg recently reported that this rollback could unlock billions of dollars for Detroit carmakers to reinvest in gasoline-powered and hybrid vehicles.
Ford CEO Jim Farley even called the policy shift a “multibillion-dollar opportunity” for its gas and hybrid business. GM CFO Paul Jacobson echoed the sentiment, saying the removal of fines will start saving the company money as early as 2026.
The reason is simple— without fuel economy fines, Ford and General Motors no longer need to buy regulatory credits from EV-only players. GM has spent $3.5 billion on credits since 2022, while Ford has cut $1.5 billion in similar purchases this year. They can now redirect the money into profitable gas-powered trucks and SUVs.

GM and Ford Scale Back EV Ambitions
This policy reset is showing up in production plans. GM recently announced it will temporarily cut one shift each for the GMC Hummer EV and Cadillac Escalade IQ between Sept. 2 and Oct. 6. While the Silverado EV and Sierra EV pickups remain in production, GM has delayed its second electric truck plant and Buick’s first EV by six months. Instead, the automaker revealed $4 billion in spending for mostly gasoline-powered vehicles—clear evidence it’s not betting everything on EVs anymore.
Ford is making similar adjustments. The company cut its Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Dearborn—where the F-150 Lightning is built—to a single shift. It also scrapped plans for an all-electric three-row SUV in Ontario. Instead, Ford is leaning into hybrids, especially in its best-selling truck lineup. Farley has said the Ford Blue division, which builds gas and hybrid vehicles, had been shouldering most of the compliance burden under stricter rules. With Trump’s rollback, that division stands to benefit the most. In fact, Ford is retooling its Oakville plant to make Super Duty F-Series pickups starting next year, reversing its earlier plan to build EVs there.
While Detroit’s legacy automakers view the rollback as a relief, the story looks very different for pure play EV companies like Tesla TSLA, Lucid Group LCID and Rivian Automotive RIVN, which relied heavily on incentives and credits to fuel demand and profits.
EV Pure Plays Lose a Safety Net
Tesla, Rivian and Lucid are losing a major source of revenues. That’s because Trump’s rollback not only ends consumer tax credits but also kills the market for regulatory credits.
Under the old rules, automakers that fell short of fuel-economy targets had to either pay fines or buy credits from companies that exceeded the standards—mostly EV makers. Tesla, Rivian and Lucid were prime beneficiaries of this system. Now that the fines are gone, so is the need for credits. And the impact is beginning to show.
Rivian said regulatory credits made up 6.5% of its total revenues in the first half of 2025, but it doesn’t expect any credit sales for the rest of the year. Last year, Rivian earned more than $400 million from these sales. Losing that cushion makes its path to profitability even steeper.
Lucid is facing a similar squeeze. It is already battling demand and profitability challenges, so the loss of this income stream just adds to the hurdles.
Tesla, meanwhile, is taking the biggest hit in absolute dollars. Since 2019, Tesla has generated over $10.6 billion from credit sales—profits that often made the difference during lean quarters. In the last reported quarter alone, Tesla booked $439 million from credits. While that sounds strong, it’s down nearly 50% from the $890 million it earned a year earlier. The decline has been steady, quarter after quarter, and Trump’s rollback threatens to accelerate the slide.
Final Thoughts
GM and Ford, with their deep gas and hybrid portfolios, are among the winners from the EV policy changes. They would gain flexibility, save billions in compliance costs, and push forward with vehicles that still deliver strong margins.
On the losing side are Rivian and Lucid, whose business models counted on credit revenues to partially offset losses from selling EVs. Without that extra income, their road to profitability looks longer and riskier. Tesla, too, faces margin pressure as one of its reliable profit levers disappears.

Trump's EV Moves: Tax Credits Ending, Fines Gone - Winners and Losers

Even with the risk of this case weighing on Alphabet, the stock still has climbed over the past year.
Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOG) (NASDAQ: GOOGL) has been a fantastic investment opportunity for investors over the years. The company owns the world's No. 1 search engine, Google Search, and generates revenue from its growing cloud computing unit Google Cloud as well as through the sales of equipment such as smartphones. This has helped the tech giant generate billions of dollars in earnings -- and the stock price has advanced more than 600% over the past decade, scoring a win for shareholders who have held on for the long haul.
But one thing in particular has prompted some investors to hold back on buying the stock, and that's a U.S. antitrust lawsuit. Last year, in the Justice Department's case against the company, a U.S. district judge ruled that Alphabet operates an illegal Internet search monopoly. To remedy the situation, the department recommended a breakup of Google -- and one of the possibilities was the sale of Google Chrome.

Though Alphabet stock has advanced, the case still weighed on the stock's potential as some investors worried about a dismantling of the company's valuable search business. Last week, though, that worst-case scenario was avoided. In fact, Alphabet scored a "monster win," according to Wedbush analyst Dan Ives. Still, after Alphabet's double-digit gain this year, is it too late to get in on this top tech stock? Let's find out.
Alphabet's antitrust troubles
So, first a quick look at the troubles Alphabet faced up until a few days ago. As mentioned, investors feared the technology powerhouse would have to break apart its Google unit, damaging its market position and growth prospects. Alphabet's ownership of an entire ecosystem of products and services allows it to operate more efficiently and share resources across these platforms, from Google Chrome to YouTube, for example.
On top of this, the idea of a breakup put into jeopardy Alphabet's deal with Apple that's allowed Google to be the search engine of choice on the iPhone. It's important to remember that Alphabet's Google Services business represents 85% of revenue -- this is thanks to advertising across Google platforms -- so any potential disruption of its current form could be highly destructive.
That's why last week's court ruling was fantastic news for Alphabet shareholders: The court said Alphabet wouldn't have to divest Google Chrome or its Android operating system, and that "plaintiffs overreached in seeking forced divestiture of these key assets." Instead, Alphabet must share search data with its competitors to level the playing field.
Ives raises his Alphabet price target
Wedbush's Ives, a technology bull, said this is a "monster win" and "removes a huge overhang on the stock," according to a CNBC report. Ives also increased his price target on the stock, which currently trades for about $232, to $245.
So now let's return to our question: This is great news for Alphabet shareholders -- but if you haven't yet bought the stock or if you aim to add to your position, is it too late to buy? After all, even though the antitrust case might have put the brakes on share performance, the stock still has advanced nearly 50% over the past year.
Here, it's important to consider valuation. In spite of the gains, Alphabet trades for only 23x forward earnings estimates, making it the cheapest of the Magnificent Seven stocks.

What valuation suggests
This valuation suggests Alphabet still has plenty of room to run, even in the near term. And in the long term, there's even more reason to get excited about this company. Alphabet, thanks to the court ruling, now can continue to grow its search business, and on top of this, the company has demonstrated that it could be a winner in the AI revolution. Google Cloud is a major provider of AI tools and services, and this has helped the unit's revenue climb in the double digits in recent quarters. And with an AI market forecast to reach into the trillions in a few years, Alphabet is well positioned to see more growth.
All of this means that even after Alphabet stock's recent climb, it still remains a fantastic tech player to buy and hold -- and now you can do so without worrying about any potential upset from the antitrust case.

When even Elon Musk admits that a plan is lacking in specifics, you know it must be pretty vague.
Yet that's exactly what Musk said about Tesla's (NASDAQ: TSLA) own "Master Plan Part 4," a day after it was unveiled on his social media site X. Responding to criticism of the plan, he admitted in a Tuesday post, "Fair enough. Will add more specifics."

However, the lack of details isn't the only issue investors may have with the latest installment of Tesla's corporate roadmap. If it's an accurate reflection of the company's priorities, it may signal a radical change in the company's thesis. Tesla shareholders should carefully consider whether this new road is one they want to travel.
A man with a plan
Musk's initial "Secret Master Plan" for Tesla was unveiled on August 2, 2006, consisting of four simple steps:
Build sports car [this was the hand-built Roadster, the company's only product at the time]
Use that money to build an affordable car [the Model S]
Use that money to build an even more affordable car [the Model 3]
While doing above, also provide zero emission electric power generation options [Solar Roof/Powerwall]
Ten years later, in 2016, Musk unveiled the "Secret Master Plan, Part 2." It wasn't as simple as Part 1, but it still had actionable goals:
Introduce the Model 3, plus a "future compact SUV" (the Model Y) and "a new kind of pickup truck" (the Cybertruck) to "address most of the consumer market."
Unveil two non-consumer electric vehicles: a "heavy-duty truck" (the Tesla Semi, which was unveiled in 2017) and a "high passenger density urban transport" vehicle (the prototype 20-passenger Robovan that the company unveiled in 2024).
"Create a smoothly integrated and beautiful solar-roof-with-battery product that just works, empowering the individual as their own utility, and then scale that throughout the world. One ordering experience, one installation, one service contact, one phone app."
Develop self-driving capability that is safer than manual driving.
Although the jury's still out on whether the Cybertruck, Semi, Robovan, and solar roof will be commercially viable over the long term, Tesla has arguably met all of these goals besides self-driving capability, which is clearly still a work in progress.
A man with a very different plan
Master Plan Part 3 was released in 2023, at a dense 41 pages in length, and was more about a societal transition to sustainability than about Tesla as a company, which may be why Tesla decided to release Part 4 a mere two years later.
Unfortunately, while it was easy to summarize Part 1 and Part 2 into actionable benchmarks, Part 4 is long on sagely statements ("Growth is infinite," "Innovation removes constraints.") and short on specifics. However, investors might be surprised by the subject matter.
If you'd asked me what Tesla's new Master Plan would talk about, I would probably have said "new vehicle lines, including a $25,000 EV or maybe an electric van or larger vehicle; autonomous driving capability and robotaxis; maybe something about energy generation and storage."
Boy, would I have been wrong!
A man with a...humanoid robot?!
The "Master Plan" is just shy of 1,000 words long. Less than 200 of those words are devoted to Tesla's existing or future products, but 168 of those 200 words are about AI and autonomy, including 25 words about autonomous vehicles and 52 words about autonomous humanoid robots like Tesla's prototype Optimus. Meanwhile, "electric vehicles" are only mentioned once in passing outside of a recap of the company's history.
So...are electric vehicles really history at Tesla?
Musk clearly sees autonomous humanoid robots as the future of the company, posting on X that "~80% of Tesla's value" will someday come from them, but they're nowhere near delivery-ready. And in this arena, Tesla has a lot of competition from big tech players like Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA), plus many other startups and international companies as well.
It's OK to devote some planning (and hype) to future product lines. But when Tesla's primary business -- electric vehicles -- barely earns a mention in the company's "Master Plan," it raises concerns that this already-struggling division isn't getting the kind of attention it needs from management. And if Tesla's electric vehicle business collapses, it will take a lot more than a robot prototype to rescue the stock.

Tesla's New "Master Plan Part 4" Could Be An Alarm Bell for Investors

The Trillion-Dollar AI Question

The S&P 500 Index ($SPX) (SPY) on Friday fell -0.32%, the Dow Jones Industrials Index ($DOWI) (DIA) fell -0.48%, and the Nasdaq 100 Index ($IUXX) (QQQ) rose +0.08%. September E-mini S&P futures (ESU25) fell -0.35%, and September E-mini Nasdaq futures (NQU25) rose +0.04%.
Stocks on Friday initially rallied after the weak US unemployment report, which solidified market expectations for at least two Fed rate cuts by year-end. However, stocks then turned lower as market sentiment turned negative on concern about weaker US corporate earnings if the US economy is headed towards a recession.

Friday’s Aug payroll report of +22,000 was weaker than the consensus of +75,000. Over the past three months, payrolls have shown an average monthly rise of only +29,000. July payrolls were revised slightly higher to +79,000 from +73,000, but June was revised lower to a decline of -13,000. Aug private payrolls rose by only +38,000, while manufacturing payrolls fell by -12,000. The Aug unemployment rate rose by +0.1 point to a 3.75-year high of 4.3%, up from +4.2% in July, which was in line with market expectations.
Aug average hourly earnings rose by +0.3% m/m, which was in line with market expectations. In a positive inflation development, the Aug average hourly earnings report eased to +3.7% y/y from +3.9% in July and was slightly weaker than expectations of +3.8%.
Stocks received underlying support as the 10-year T-note yield fell -7 bp on the US unemployment report. The markets are now pricing in a 9% chance of a 50 bp rate cut at the upcoming FOMC meeting on Sep 16-17, versus the previous expectations of a zero chance of that 50 bp rate cut. After the fully expected -25 bp rate cut at the Sep 16-17 meeting, the markets are now discounting an 84% chance of a second -25 bp rate cut at the Oct 28-29 meeting, up from a 54% chance as of late Thursday. The markets are now pricing in an overall -73 bp rate cut in the federal funds rate by year-end to 3.65% from the current 4.38% rate.
Regarding tariffs, a federal appeals court ruled late last Friday that President Trump exceeded his authority by imposing global tariffs without Congressional approval, but the court let the tariffs remain in place while appeals continue. The US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit Court said, “The statute bestows significant authority on the President to undertake a number of actions in response to a declared national emergency, but none of these actions explicitly include the power to impose tariffs, duties, or the like, or the power to tax.” The case now appears to be headed to the Supreme Court for a final decision. According to Bloomberg Economics, the average US tariff will rise to 15.2% if rates are implemented as announced, up from 13.3% earlier, and significantly higher than the 2.3% in 2024 before the tariffs were announced.
Overseas stock markets on Friday closed mixed. The Euro Stoxx 50 closed down -0.53%. China’s Shanghai Composite closed up +1.24%, snapping a 3-session losing streak. Japan’s Nikkei Stock 225 closed up +1.03%.
Interest Rates
December 10-year T-notes (ZNZ5) rose by +15.5 ticks. The 10-year T-note yield fell by -7.1 bp to 4.090% and posted a 5-month low. T-note prices rallied on the weak US unemployment report and the increased chances for Fed easing. T-note prices also saw support from Friday’s -1.6 bp decline to 2.374% in the 10-year inflation expectations rate, driven by the weak unemployment report and the -2.5% plunge in crude oil prices.
The Treasury market on Friday focused on the weak US unemployment and ignored, for the time being, concerns about Fed independence sparked by President Trump’s attempt to fire Fed Governor Cook and by Stephen Miran’s intention to be a Fed Governor while still technically holding his White House job on the Council of Economic Advisors.
European government bond yields ended lower. The 10-year German bund yield fell -5.7 bp to 2.662%. The 10-year UK gilt yield fell -7.5 bp to 4.646%.
Swaps are discounting the chances at 1% for a -25 bp rate cut by the ECB at the September 11 policy meeting.
US Stock Movers
The Magnificent Seven stocks on Friday closed mixed, with three stocks closing higher and four stocks closing lower. Tesla (TSLA) led the pack with a +3.6% gain after announcing a pay deal for Elon Musk potentially worth as much as $1 trillion to entice him to show up for work at Tesla and meet aggressive targets. Apple (AAPL) closed slightly lower despite news that its annual fiscal sales in India hit a record of nearly $9 billion. Nvidia (NVDA) fell -2.7% on news that Broadcom is encroaching on its AI chip territory. Microsoft (MSFT) fell -2.6%, and Amazon (AMZN) fell -1.4%.
Broadcom (AVGO) rallied +9.4% on an agreement with OpenAI to design and produce a new AI chip, seeking to displace Nvidia’s stronghold in AI chips. Chip stocks were strong in general, with
Micron (MU) up +5.8% and gains of more than +3% in ASML (ASML), KLA-Tencor (KLAC), and Align Technology (ALGN).
Energy stocks fell due to Friday’s -2.5% sell-off in Oct WTI crude oil on reports that Saudi Arabia wants OPEC+ to speed up the next oil production boost. ConocoPhillips (COP), Diamondback Energy (FANG), Exxon Mobil (XOM), Chevron (CVX), and Devon Energy (DVN) all closed lower by more than -2%.
Crypto stocks closed mixed, even though Bitcoin (^BTCUSD) rallied +1%. Coinbase (COIN) fell -2.5%, but Strategy (MSTR) rallied +2.5%. Riot Platforms (RIOT) and MARA Holdings (MARA) closed up by more than +0.5%.
Homebuilders rallied on Friday’s continued decline in the 10-year T-note yield, which put downward pressure on mortgage rates. DR Horton (DHI), Lennar (LEN), and PulteGroup (PHM) all closed up by more than +2%, while Toll Brothers (TOL) closed up +1.4%.
Lululemon Athletica (LULU) fell by -18.6% after reducing its guidance due to a weak consumer environment and tariffs.

Stocks Fade on Economic Concerns after Weak US Unemployment Report

(RTTNews) - Tesla's board has proposed a landmark compensation package for CEO Elon Musk, one that could propel him to become the world's first trillionaire if he met a series of highly ambitious milestones that would dramatically expand the company's scale and value.
Filed with regulators on Friday, the plan ties Musk's pay entirely to Tesla stock and could add nearly $900 billion to his current $400 billion fortune.
To receive the full payout, Tesla's market capitalization would need to climb from about $1.1 trillion today to $8.5 trillion over the next decade. Shareholders are scheduled to vote on the plan at the annual meeting on November 6.
The deal requires Musk to remain at Tesla for at least 10 years and achieve sweeping targets, including deploying one million autonomous taxis, introducing one million humanoid robots, and lifting annual operating profit to $400 billion from last year's $17 billion. If successful, Musk's stake could nearly double to 29 percent, giving him an extraordinary level of control.
The proposal comes amid slowing sales, shrinking profits, and fierce competition from Chinese automakers such as BYD and Geely. While critics argue Musk has been distracted by ventures including SpaceX and his AI startup, xAI, Tesla's board insists his leadership is indispensable as the company pivots toward artificial intelligence, robotics, and autonomous driving.
The package mirrors Musk's 2018 pay deal struck down by a Delaware court earlier this year as excessive but Tesla's relocation to Texas could limit future legal challenges.
If approved, it would mark the largest executive compensation plan in corporate history, underscoring both Musk's unrivaled influence at Tesla and the extraordinary risks tied to its future growth.
