Tesla, Inc. designs, develops, manufactures, leases, and sells electric vehicles, and energy generation and storage systems in the United States, China, and internationally. The company operates in two segments, Automotive, and Energy Generation and Storage. The Automotive segment offers electric vehicles, as well as sells automotive regulatory credits; and non-warranty after-sales vehicle, used vehicles, body shop and parts, supercharging, retail merchandise, and vehicle insurance services. This segment also provides sedans and sport utility vehicles through direct and used vehicle sales, a network of Tesla Superchargers, and in-app upgrades; purchase financing and leasing services; services for electric vehicles through its company-owned service locations and Tesla mobile service technicians; and vehicle limited warranties and extended service plans. The Energy Generation and Storage segment engages in the design, manufacture, installation, sale, and leasing of solar energy generation and energy storage products, and related services to residential, commercial, and industrial customers and utilities through its website, stores, and galleries, as well as through a network of channel partners; and provision of service and repairs to its energy product customers, including under warranty, as well as various financing options to its solar customers. The company was formerly known as Tesla Motors, Inc. and changed its name to Tesla, Inc. in February 2017. Tesla, Inc. was incorporated in 2003 and is headquartered in Austin, Texas.

Small caps are cheap
At the start of 2025, small cap stocks were trading for their lowest valuations relative to their large-cap counterparts since the 1990s. This is partially due to the rapid growth in megacap technology stocks, but large caps have been outperforming smaller companies for years. What's more, throughout 2025, the valuation gap got even bigger. In fact, the average stock in the Russell 2000 small-cap index trades for 2.0 times book value. For the average S&P 500 component, the ratio is a much higher 5.2 times book value. That's a big difference.
There are some catalysts that could finally help the valuation gap shrink in 2026. For one thing, lower interest rates favor small cap outperformance for a few reasons. As an example, smaller companies tend to rely on debt more than larger companies.
The Vanguard Russell 2000 ETF (NASDAQ: VTWO) is the ETF I bought the most of in 2025, and it's still toward the top of my watch list. It tracks an index of 2,000 smaller companies, and no individual stock makes up more than 1% of the fund's total assets.
Lots of cheap income stocks
The real estate sector has underperformed the market for the past decade or so, with pandemic-related disruptions and elevated interest rates being the key reasons. But there are some extremely attractive opportunities to buy real estate investment trusts, or REITs, right now, and the Vanguard Real Estate ETF (NYSEMKT: VNQ) could be a top performer in 2026 and beyond for patient long-term investors.
This ETF tracks an index of REITs and offers a 4% dividend yield. It can be a great way to get exposure to some of the largest and most stable real estate operators in the world, such as Prologis (NYSE: PLD), Digital Realty Trust (NYSE: DLR), and healthcare real estate company Welltower (NYSE: WELL), just to name a few.
My favorite AI ETF
So far, I've discussed value and income ETFs, but now I'll go in a different direction by discussing my favorite AI play. To be sure, I own a few stocks directly that are massive beneficiaries of the AI boom, such as Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ: AMD) and Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN).
However, the top artificial intelligence ETF on my radar focuses on smaller, outside-the-box AI stocks. The Ark Autonomous Technology & Robotics ETF (NYSEMKT: ARKQ) is an actively managed ETF, not an index fund, and notable tech investor Cathie Wood is the lead stock-picker.
To be sure, the number one holding of the Autonomous Technology & Robotics ETF is Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) but you won't find any other Magnificent Seven stocks in the top 10. The largest positions are mostly in smaller AI stocks, such as Teradyne (NASDAQ: TER), Kratos Defense & Security (NASDAQ: KTOS), and Archer Aviation (NYSE: ACHR).
The bottom line on ETFs
These three ETFs highlight several different components of my investment strategy and why I like to use ETFs so much. The first two are pure index plays -- investments I hope to hold for decades that I think have a good entry point right now. On the other hand, the Ark ETF is on my radar because researching and analyzing smaller AI plays isn't exactly in my wheelhouse, and this allows me to gain exposure to exciting investment opportunities without too much homework.
The bottom line is that regardless of your investment goals and comfort level with choosing individual stocks, ETFs can play a big role in your strategy. These are three that I think are particularly attractive as we head in 2026, and I plan to add shares of all three to my portfolio in the near future.

These ''units'' can be traded back and forth just like stocks, but can also be created or destroyed to accommodate investor demand. Rivian (NASDAQ: RIVN) was one of the hottest IPOs of 2021. The electric vehicle maker went public at $78 on Nov. 10 and closed at its record high of $172.01 six days later. It initially impressed the bulls because it had already started mass-producing its first vehicles, and it was backed by Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) and Ford (NYSE: F). The buying frenzy in hypergrowth and meme stocks in late 2021 further inflated its valuations and amplified its gains.
At its peak, Rivian's market capitalization reached $153.3 billion -- or 92 times the revenue it ultimately generated in 2022. However, today, Rivian's stock trades at approximately $17 with a market cap of $21.5 billion -- which is just three times the revenue it's expected to generate in 2026. That makes it dirt cheap compared to Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA), which trades at 14 times next year's sales. So could this unloved EV stock bounce back and head higher over the next 12 months?

Can Rivian ramp up its production and deliveries?
Rivian sells three types of EVs: the R1T pickup truck, the R1S SUV, and custom electric delivery vans (EDVs) for Amazon and other companies. When it went public, it planned to produce 50,000 vehicles in 2022 and co-develop another electric pickup with Ford.
However, Rivian only produced 24,337 vehicles in 2022 as it struggled with supply chain constraints, factory shutdowns, and intense competition from other EV makers. Ford also abandoned its partnership with Rivian and sold most of its 12% stake in 2022. Amazon, which placed a long-term order for Rivian's EDVs through 2030, kept its 17% stake.
In 2023, Rivian more than doubled its annual production to 57,232 vehicles. It resolved most of its supply chain issues, strengthened its relationships with its suppliers, made its factories more efficient, and reduced its production costs with its in-house Enduro drive unit. But its production and deliveries stalled out again in 2024 and 2025.

Rivian attributed that slowdown to inflation, rising interest rates, reduced EV subsidies, and competitive headwinds. It also temporarily shut down its central plant in Illinois several times to upgrade its facilities and prepare for the planned launch of its cheaper R2 SUV in 2026.
For 2025, Rivian expects to deliver only 41,500 to 43,500 vehicles. Analysts expect its revenue to rise 8% to $5.37 billion as it sells more of its existing cars. They also expect it to narrow its net loss to $3.82 billion as it sells more of its regulatory credits to other automakers, expands its software and services segment, and uses more in-house components to boost its margins.
For 2026, analysts expect Rivian's revenue to increase 28% to $6.87 billion as it narrows its net loss to $3.66 billion. However, that acceleration will rely on a timely and well-executed rollout of its R2 SUV in the first half of 2026. If the R2 is delayed or met with a chilly reception, Rivian will broadly miss Wall Street's expectations. In 2027, they expect Rivian's revenue to surge 65% to $11.37 billion as it narrows its net loss to $3.15 billion. That optimistic outlook assumes that it will scale up its production of the R2, stabilize its other vehicle shipments, deliver more EDVs to Amazon, and gain more EDV customers. If it can achieve those goals, then its stock appears grossly undervalued at present.
Where will Rivian's stock be in a year?
With nearly $7.7 billion in total liquidity at the end of its latest quarter, Rivian believes it has enough cash to ramp up its production of the R2 next year. If the R2 launch is successful, it meets Wall Street's revenue targets, and its stock trades at a more generous five times forward sales by the end of 2026, it could rise by more than 160% over the next 12 months. However, investors should keep a close eye on its progress with the R2. If it falls short of the market's expectations, Rivian's stock could still decline significantly.

Unlike the dot-com bust, which was led by unprofitable companies with often times questionable business models -- we're looking at you, Pets.com -- the AI boom is being led by profitable companies with strong balance sheets that are generating an enormous amount of operating cash flow from their core businesses. This bodes well for both the companies involved and their investors.
As such, I think one of the best ways to play the AI boom is through an investment in the Invesco QQQ Trust (NASDAQ: QQQ), which is an exchange-traded fund (ETF) that tracks the Nasdaq-100. Investors can start with a smaller amount, say $2,000, but the key is to consistently invest in the fund in both up and down markets using a dollar-cost averaging strategy.
If you can start with $2,000 and add $1,000 each month, you would have over $268,000 after 10 years, with a 15% average annual return. The earlier you start, the better, though, as with the same rate of return, if you held for 30 years you would have nearly $5.7 million, with 94% of that coming from gains.
Why the Invesco QQQ Trust is a great investment
The Invesco QQQ Trust will give you a portfolio of the top names in tech. The Nasdaq Exchange has always been where both leading and emerging tech companies have tended to list, and the Nasdaq-100 index is certainly overweight in tech stocks. Its top 10 holdings are a who's who of tech, with most of the companies being AI leaders.
Nearly 65% of the stocks in the ETF are classified as technology, and this doesn't include names like cloud computing leader Amazon and Tesla, which tend to get lumped in the consumer discretionary category. Overall, its top 10 holdings make up 55% of its portfolio.

While actively managed funds have struggled to outperform the S&P 500 over the years, the Invesco QQQ Trust has not run into that problem. As of the end of November, the ETF has had an average annual return of 19.3% versus 14.6% for the S&P 500. While that may not sound like a lot, on a cumulative basis, it is a 486.3% return versus 291.8% for the S&P 500. If you had invested $2,000 and just let it sit there, that's the difference between $11,726 and $7,836 at the end of 10 years.
One of the best things about the Invesco QQQ Trust is that not only has it outperformed the S&P 500 over the past decade, but it has done so consistently. On a 12-month rolling basis, it has topped the broader market benchmark index nearly 88% of the time. That means its gains aren't coming from just one or two big years during this stretch.
While past returns are no guarantee of future performance, the tech-heavy makeup of the Invesco QQQ trust makes it an ideal way to play the ongoing AI revolution. That's why it's one of the smartest ETFs to buy right now.

The Smartest Index ETF to Buy With $2,000 Right Now

Lucid Group LCID is leaning hard into autonomy, and it’s becoming a key part of the company’s future story. On the commercial side, Lucid shipped engineering vehicles to Nuro in Q3’25 for Uber’s upcoming robotaxi program, with the first San Francisco rollout aimed for 2026. At the same time, Lucid announced a fresh collaboration with NVIDIA to co-develop consumer-focused Level 4 features. Together, these moves give Lucid a foot in the door in fleet autonomy while setting up longer-term software upgrades for retail buyers.
Product and Software Upgrades Incoming
Management is lining up major ADAS upgrades for both Gravity and the midsize platform by late 2026. The goal is to expand the software feature set and unlock more pricing power over time. Gravity’s order mix is already helping raise ASPs, and the company expects fourth-quarter deliveries to climb again as Gravity becomes the bulk of production.
The Regulatory and Execution Gauntlet
Of course, autonomy isn’t just about writing great code. Lucid still has to clear safety checks, secure local approvals, and get fleets ready for that 2026 San Francisco pilot. A slip in any of these areas could push revenue out, which means near-term robotaxi contribution is still very much up in the air — even if the partnerships broaden the long-term opportunity.
Hardware Efficiency Meets Software Ambition
Lucid’s new Atlas powertrain is supposed to bring costs down while supporting autonomy-ready hardware. Atlas consolidates power and thermal systems, cuts parts count, reduces weight, and even offers a rare-earth-free variant. The first midsize model is still scheduled for late 2026 production. If the rollout goes smoothly, Atlas could lower capital intensity, improve gross margins as volumes grow, and create space to add Level 4 hardware without blowing up the bill of materials.
Near-Term Reality Check
All that future potential sits against a tough financial backdrop. GAAP gross margin was negative 99% in Q3’25, with tariffs alone dragging margins by around 13 points. Free cash flow was negative $955.5 million for the quarter, and full-year capex is still tracking at $1–$1.2 billion. Add in ongoing supply-chain volatility — magnets, aluminum, semiconductors — and it’s clear Lucid needs breathing room before autonomy can actually move the financials.

Lucid carries a Zacks Rank #4 (Sell) with a VGM Score of F. Demand is improving — seven straight quarters of record deliveries — but margins and cash burn keep the stock in “prove-it” mode. Autonomy gives Lucid new optionality— a 2026 Uber/Nuro robotaxi entry point and NVIDIA-backed Level 4 ambitions for consumers. But until margins, cash flow, and tariff pressures ease, the stock seems a risky bet at the moment.
Better-ranked players in the electric vehicle space include Rivian Automotive RIVN and Tesla TSLA. While RIVN carries a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy), Tesla carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).

A stock split is a tool publicly traded companies have at their disposal to cosmetically adjust their share price and outstanding share count by the same factor. These changes are purely superficial in the sense that they don't affect a company's market cap or operating performance.
In addition to piquing the interest of everyday investors, stock splits can also garner the attention of Wall Street professionals. Based on the high-water price targets of select Wall Street analysts, two of the aforementioned five high-profile stock-split stocks offer up to 135% upside in 2026.
Netflix: Implied upside of 55%
The first high-flying stock-split stock that at least one Wall Street analyst believes can soar in the new year is streaming services provider Netflix, which completed a 10-for-1 forward split in mid-November.
On July 18, Jefferies analyst James Hawley kept his firm's buy rating on Netflix stock but upped the price target to $1,500, which is now a split-adjusted $150 per share and represents 55% upside from where shares closed on Dec. 8. In the research note, Hawley highlighted that North American sales growth (U.S. and Canada) has jumped to 15% from 9%, which suggests customer churn remains low, even as the company has increased its prices.
The note also adds that Netflix can grow its earnings per share (EPS) by more than 20% annually over the next three to five years.
There's little question that Netflix continues to ride its first-mover advantage to substantial profits. It's overseen more original content releases than any of its peers, with shows like Stranger Things and Squid Game attracting new subscribers and ensuring existing customers remain within its ecosystem.
Netflix has also been successful with its innovation beyond the big screen. A little over three years ago, the company introduced an advertising-based tier as a more affordable option for its streaming subscribers. As of May 2025, approximately 94 million people had signed up for this ad-driven option.
Likewise, Netflix finally cracked down on password-sharing in May 2023 by requiring that accounts remain within a single household. The solutions offered by the company, which include paying for an extra member or having people outside the household set up a paid account in their name, have boosted total subscribers and profitability.
But it's not clear if Netflix shares can reach this lofty price target in 2026, given its recently announced deal to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery, following the separation of Discovery Global, for $82.7 billion, which works out to $23.25 per share in cash and $4.50 per share in Netflix stock.
On paper, the deal makes plenty of sense, with Netflix gaining access to HBO and HBO Max, as well as Warner Bros.' valuable studio segment. However, serious antitrust questions will arise from this deal, which could cast a grey cloud above the company's stock throughout much of 2026. While this doesn't mean the deal won't get done, the legal and profit-driven uncertainties associated with this buyout may weigh on Netflix for the foreseeable future.
Lucid Group: Implied upside of 135%
Whereas Netflix, O'Reilly Automotive, Fastenal, and Interactive Brokers Group all completed forward splits this year, electric-vehicle (EV) maker Lucid Group was the most-hyped reverse split of 2025. Its 1-for-10 reverse split, which lifted its share price from around $2 to closer to $20, went into effect in early September.
Investors typically gravitate toward public companies announcing and completing forward splits, and shy away from businesses that undertake reverse splits. Companies that need to increase their share price are often struggling on an operating basis and splitting their shares to avoid delisting from a major stock exchange.
Despite what history tells us, Benchmark's Mickey Legg has an optimistic view of Lucid Group stock for 2026. Even though he lowered his firm's price target on the company this year, the $30 Legg expects for Lucid shares would imply upside of 135%!
Legg's optimism for Lucid crescendoed in mid-July, which is when Lucid announced a partnership with Uber Technologies and privately held Nuro to launch a global robotaxi program. Lucid will be responsible for delivering 20,000 (or more) of its Gravity SUVs over six years.
However, Lucid has endured several missteps during its attempted production ramp-up, to the point where it's becoming difficult for investors to believe management's growth and production forecasts.
With Tesla moving away from its luxury Model S to mass-produce the more affordable Model 3 sedan, the luxury EV space was ripe for the taking. But due to a myriad of supply chain issues that coincided with and followed the COVID-19 pandemic, Lucid Air sedan production and delivery figures have been a major disappointment. While management had predicted 90,000 units of production for 2024 when the company went public in 2021, guidance had fallen to just 9,000 units of production by the time 2024 arrived.
Lucid also missed its opportunity with Gravity. Initially, the company's SUV was expected to hit showroom floors in 2024. This launch was eventually delayed until the spring of this year.
Perhaps the biggest snag in Legg's optimistic price target is Lucid's balance sheet. Although the company has received billions of dollars in backing from Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, it's been burning cash and losing money at an extraordinary rate. It's burned through more than $2 billion in cash from its operating activities in the first nine months of 2025 and has lost close to $14.8 billion since the company was incepted.
Building an EV company from the ground up to mass production is a costly and time-consuming process. Lucid Group hasn't yet demonstrated that it possesses the necessary tools or intangibles to succeed, which makes it unlikely that Legg's lofty price target will be achieved in 2026.

Nevertheless, with Waymo currently operating in only five major cities, the battle for robotaxi supremacy is in its infancy.
Meanwhile, Tesla’s robotaxi program has only debuted in two cities (Austin, Texas & San Francisco, California). Nevertheless, Tesla has two critical advantages that will allow it to catch up to and even surpass Waymo rapidly – scalability and cost. Waymo robotaxis rely on expensive lidar technology that can cost ~$10-$12k. Conversely, Tesla robotaxis rely on camera and vision technology that costs ~$400 per vehicle.
Until now, Tesla’s robotaxi roadblock has been the long wait to achieve full self-driving (FSD) and to deliver robotaxis without a safety rider. However, data sourced from the betting market Kalshi suggests the wait may be over. According to Kalshi, there is a 77% chance that Tesla will launch unsupervised FSD before 2026.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently exhibited high confidence in his company’s robotaxi future, posting on X that “Waymo never really had a chance against Tesla. This will be obvious in hindsight.” Meanwhile, in another interview, Elon Musk said that unsupervised FSD is “pretty much solved at this point.” In related news, rideshare giants Lyft and Uber Technologies sold off hard on Wednesday on above-average volume turnover.
Tesla Brand Reputation Has Healed
In early 2025, Elon Musk stepped away from his numerous businesses (including Tesla) to become a “special government employee” and spearhead the “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE) under the Trump Administration. However, Musk’s decision to tackle government waste, fraud, and abuse backfired significantly for his own businesses. Tesla cars and dealerships across the country were vandalized as sales plunged.
That said, data from predictive insight firmHundredX suggests that enough time has passed and that the Tesla brand has healed. The data shows that Tesla’s net purchase intent (NPI) and brand value/trust have fully recovered after plunging in early 2025.
Tesla China has Turned the Corner
Amid a weak economy and cutthroat competition from automakers such as BYD, Nio and Xpeng, Tesla has experienced stagnant sales in its second-largest market, China. That said, fresh data suggests Tesla China has turned the corner. Last week, the Model Y was the top-selling vehicle in China.
Meanwhile, the Tesla Model S is completely sold out in China.

Tesla's New Bull Case: FSD, Brand Recovery, & China Strength

VGT is missing key tech stocks because of how they're categorized by sector.

When you look at the stock market performance of the 11 major U.S. business sectors, there's tech, and then there's everyone else. The tech sector has considerably outperformed other sectors and has positioned itself as the go-to for investors seeking high-growth opportunities.
Twenty years ago, at the end of 2005, only one of the world's top 10 most valuable companies was a tech company (Microsoft). Today, nine of them are, each with a valuation of over $1 trillion (as of Dec. 4).

Considering the historical success, it makes sense that investors would want to continue pouring money into the sector. Rather than betting on individual stocks, investing in tech-focused exchange-traded funds (ETF)gives you broad exposure to the sector without taking on each company's individual risks.
Two popular tech ETFs are the Invesco QQQ ETF (NASDAQ: QQQ) and the Vanguard Information Technology ETF (NYSEMKT: VGT). However, if you had to choose one of the two, which is the better option to go with heading into 2026? To me, the Invesco ETF stands out as the go-to. Here's why.
Sector technicalities could mean missing out on key tech companies with Vanguard Information Technology ETF
The Invesco QQQ mirrors the Nasdaq-100, an index tracking the 100 largest nonfinancial companies on the Nasdaq exchange. This means QQQ isn't only tech stocks, but they do make up 64% of the ETF. On the other hand, the Vanguard ETF contains only companies from the information technology (tech) sector.
One knock on Vanguard Information Technology that makes me lean toward QQQ is how stock sectors are defined and how that affects what companies the Vanguard fund holds. The Vanguard fund is a pure-play tech ETF, but because of how the information technology sector is categorized, it's missing some key companies that I'd want exposure to if I were investing in a tech ETF.
For example, the ETF doesn't include Alphabet, Amazon, Meta, Tesla, or Netflix because the stock market categorizes those companies in different sectors. Alphabet, Meta, and Netflix fall into the communication services sector, and Amazon and Tesla fall into the consumer discretionary sector.
Although QQQ includes companies from other sectors, it also includes all the companies mentioned above, as well as those that technically fall into the tech sector.
High concentration comes with more risk
The other reason I would prefer QQQ over Vanguard Information Technology ETF going into 2026 is that it's much less concentrated. Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA), Apple, and Microsoft are the top three holdings in each ETF, but in the Vanguard ETF, they account for over 45% of the fund.

Three companies comprising around 25% of QQQ doesn't necessarily scream diversification, but having three companies account for over 45% of a 314-stock ETF is a high-risk, high-reward game. It has worked out in Vanguard Information Technology ETF's favor in the past few years because of Nvidia's beyond-impressive performance (up 987% in three years), but the cause of its gains can be the same cause of its vulnerability.
The high concentration in Nvidia, in particular, is cause for hesitation. It has benefited significantly from demand for its graphics processing units (GPUs), artificial intelligence (AI) chips, and other data center hardware. But at over 18% of the Vanguard fund, you'd be banking on that demand continuing and Nvidia's earnings growth remaining near its current rate at a time when it's facing increased competition from companies like Alphabet, Amazon, and AMD.
AI demand is still strong, but I would prefer exposure to QQQ in the coming year because it also holds companies that deal with AI on the application side (Alphabet, Amazon, and Meta), which seems more promising than relying solely on the hardware side of the ecosystem.
Comparing their performances
Over the past decade, both QQQ and the Vanguard Information Technology ETF have performed impressively, but the Vanguard fund has outperformed QQQ, mainly due to the growth of its top holdings, such as Nvidia. However, when you zoom out, QQQ has narrowly outperformed Vanguard since the latter debuted in January 2004.
Past performance doesn't guarantee future performance, and there's no way to predict how each will perform going forward. That said, I like how QQQ is better positioned for the long run. It has all the tech giants you would want, while having a piece of other sectors to help hedge against any tech-related downturns.
