The Automotive segment offers electric vehicles, as well as sells automotive regulatory credits; and non-warranty after-sales vehicle, used vehicles, body shop and parts, supercharging, retail merchandise, and vehicle insurance services. This segment also provides sedans and sport utility vehicles through direct and used vehicle sales, a network of Tesla Superchargers, and in-app upgrades; purchase financing and leasing services; services for electric vehicles through its company-owned service locations and Tesla mobile service technicians; and vehicle limited warranties and extended service plans. The Energy Generation and Storage segment engages in the design, manufacture, installation, sale, and leasing of solar energy generation and energy storage products, and related services to residential, commercial, and industrial customers and utilities through its website, stores, and galleries, as well as through a network of channel partners; and provision of service and repairs to its energy product customers, including under warranty, as well as various financing options to its solar customers. The company was formerly known as Tesla Motors, Inc. and changed its name to Tesla, Inc. in February 2017. Tesla, Inc. was incorporated in 2003 and is headquartered in Austin, Texas.

Lucid stock soars on Tesla Supercharger news
All Lucid Air models will become compatible with Tesla's charger network on July 31. Thanks to a new charger adapter that has been approved by Lucid, Air owners will gain access to more than 23,500 charger stations.
Tesla has by far the largest network of charging stations, and the new compatibility stands to make vehicle charging significantly more convenient for Air owners. It also has the potential to make Lucid's Air EVs significantly more attractive to prospective buyers.
What's next for Lucid?
Lucid has been racking up some significant wins recently. As part of their robotaxi partnership, Uber will be purchasing 20,000 or more of its vehicles and outfitting them with autonomous driving technologies from Nuro.
With the company having delivered only 10,241 vehicles last year, the deal with Uber looks to be a significant sales catalyst even if purchases will be spread out over a six-year period. Uber has also invested $300 million in the company, and it's possible that Lucid's vehicles being part of its EV fleet will wind up creating broader sales catalysts as more potential buyers become aware of its vehicles.

Why Lucid Stock Is Skyrocketing Today

The Natixis Loomis Sayles Focused Growth ETF is seeing unusually high volume in afternoon trading Tuesday, with over 163,000 shares traded versus three month average volume of about 35,000. Shares of LSGR were off about 0.5% on the day.
Components of that ETF with the highest volume on Tuesday were Nvidia, trading down about 2% with over 112.4 million shares changing hands so far this session, and Tesla, up about 1% on volume of over 37.5 million shares. Alphabet’s earnings are expected to rise another 18.8% this year after jumping 38.6% last year.
Will Alphabet beat again and put to rest some of the fears about AI?
Investors and traders of Tesla have never cared if the company beat on earnings. It has missed two quarters in a row, but Tesla still trades with a forward P/E of 186. A P/E over 20 is considered expensive.
While shares of Tesla are down 19% year-to-date, they are off recent lows and are still up 37.3% over the last year. Earnings are expected to fall 27% this year after falling 22.4% last year.

2 Mag 7 Earnings This Week: Alphabet and Tesla

We get into the heart of the Q2 earnings season this week, with more than 400 companies on deck to report results, including 109 S&P 500 members. The reporting docket expands beyond the Finance core, which has dominated the results thus far, with a representative cross-section of all sectors reporting results this week, including Tesla TSLA and Alphabet GOOGL in the Mag 7 group.
We are off to a very good start in the Q2 earnings season. It isn’t simply companies beating estimates that were too low to begin with, a reflection of analysts sharply cutting estimates in the wake of the ‘Liberation Day’ tariff announcement.
There is also favorable management commentary about current business trends that should help firm up earnings expectations for Q3 and beyond.
It is admittedly early in the reporting cycle, with Q2 results from only about 12% of S&P 500 members out, and the sample of results is over-indexed to the Finance sector. But we remain confident that the trends established at this early stage will be validated by the one-fifth of S&P 500 members reporting results this week and through the remainder of the Q2 reporting cycle.
Through Monday morning (July 21st), we have seen Q2 results from 62 S&P 500 members, or 12.4% of the index’s total membership. Total earnings for these companies are up +9.3% from the same period last year on +5.8% higher revenues, with 82.3% beating EPS estimates and an equal proportion beating revenue estimates.
The EPS and revenue beats percentages are tracking notably above the historical averages for this group of 62 index members, as the comparison charts below show.

By the end of this week, we will have seen Q2 results from more than a third of the index’s total membership.
Alphabet will report June-quarter results after the market’s close on Wednesday (July 23rd), with the company expected to report $2.14 per share in earnings on $79.3 billion in revenues, representing year-over-year changes of +13.2% and +11.1%, respectively.
Alphabet shares have struggled this year, with the stock down -2% this year vs. a +7.3% gain for the S&P 500 index and a +9.9% gain for the Zacks Tech sector. Alphabet’s search dominance has been a perennial antitrust target, so those worries aren’t necessarily new. However, the concern among market participants is the company’s ability to secure its lucrative search franchise in the coming AI-dominated world.
Search is undoubtedly a significant contributor to earnings, but we suspect that investors' concerns about the search business may be causing them to overlook gems like YouTube and Waymo, which are integral to the Alphabet story. Then there is cloud, where Alphabet remains a leader along with Amazon and Microsoft.
This note focuses on the evolving aggregate earnings trends, but we can’t help but flag Alphabet’s discounted valuation, as the chart below illustrates.

Tesla is also reporting the same day as Alphabet (July 23rd), with the company expected to come out with $0.40 per share in earnings on $22.5 billion in revenues, representing year-over-year changes of -23.1% and -11.9%, respectively. Tesla shares are down -18.4% this year, lagging the broader market’s +7.3% gain. In addition to operational challenges in the EV market that have been weighing on Tesla’s margins and deliveries lately, Tesla shares are also influenced by the market’s collective view of Elon Musk.
Expectations for Q2 & Beyond
Looking at Q2 as a whole, combining the actual results that have come out with estimates for the still-to-come companies, total S&P 500 earnings are expected to be up +6% on +4.3% higher revenues.

For the Mag 7, whose members start reporting results this week, total Q2 earnings are expected to be up +11.7% on +11.3% higher revenues, as the chart below shows.

As you can see above, 2025 Q3 earnings for the S&P 500 index are currently expected to be up +4.5% from the same period last year on +4.5% higher revenues. Unlike what we had witnessed for Q2 during the first three weeks of the quarter, we are starting to see estimates modestly go up, as the chart below shows.

In terms of S&P 500 index ‘EPS’, these growth rates approximate to $254.42 for 2025 and $287.60 for 2026.

Early Q2 Results Indicate an Improving Earnings Outlook

Earnings season is officially upon us, and some of the biggest companies in the world are set to report their quarterly financials in the coming days. Two key stocks I will be watching this earnings season are Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) and Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA), which are both hitting speed bumps. Tesla is losing market share in electric vehicle sales, while Apple's growth has slowed with the flagship iPhone maturing around the globe.
In the coming days -- July 23 for Tesla and July 31 for Apple -- the companies will report their second-quarter earnings, and investors are on high alert. Is either company a sell before their report?

Apple's stagnant growth
Apple's dominance in smartphones is undeniable, a category it popularized by releasing the iPhone in 2007, almost 20 years ago. Today, iPhone hardware sales are at $200 billion annually, with a lot of software and services revenue layered on top. It is still a great business, but one that is not growing quickly. Smartphone upgrades are decreasing (meaning customers aren't buying new models as often) because of the little difference between new devices every passing year. This has caused a stagnation in Apple device sales since 2022 after the COVID-19 spending boom.
Eventually, Apple will need to take the next step up in computing hardware or risk getting left behind technologically. For example, it is losing out so far in augmented and virtual reality to Meta Platforms, which is selling millions of its new glasses-based hardware every year. Apple tried to enter this market with the Vision Pro headset, but it was a flop and has likely been discontinued.
Stagnant growth is a concern for Apple. It needs to develop huge, widely bought products in order to move the needle for its $400 billion revenue base. With no products on the horizon and meager efforts in the hot AI market, it is hard to predict that Apple's revenue will grow substantially faster than inflation in the next few years.
This is a problem when looking at the stock's valuation. Today, Apple has a price-to-earnings ratio (P/E) of 33, which is an earnings ratio typically reserved for high-growth stocks. Eventually, Apple is going to have to start growing again or risk multiple compression and a falling share price. This means you should consider selling Apple stock before it soon reports Q2 earnings.
If Apple investors need to be worried about stagnant growth, then Tesla investors have an even worse issue: declining sales. Last quarter, Tesla's automotive revenue declined 20% year-over-year to $14 billion. Profits are moving in the wrong direction and even worse than revenue due to the fixed leverage unwinding in the automotive manufacturing division. Operating income is off close to 50% from all-time highs over the last 12 months.
This quarter does not look promising, either. Tesla's unit sales to customers continue to slide and it already reported Q2 deliveries of 384,000 compared to 443,000 in the year-ago quarter. The brand is losing market share in the United States, Europe, and China to increasing competition among other electric vehicle upstarts and legacy automotive players.
In the United States, tax credits for electric vehicles are expiring, which will make it more expensive for customers to buy a Tesla. It has been forced to slash its selling prices, which has hurt its profit margins.
Even though it is struggling mightily, Tesla stock trades at a nosebleed P/E ratio of 179. At a market cap of $1 trillion, it will need to grow into net income of $40 billion or more just to get a somewhat reasonable valuation. It generated $6.4 billion in earnings over the last 12 months and only briefly hit an annualized rate of over $10 billion. The likelihood that Tesla achieves a bottom-line profit of $40 billion anytime soon seems far-fetched.
I can understand an argument for why an investor should hold Apple stock at today's prices. But there is no rational argument for continuing to risk your portfolio in Tesla shares. It would be prudent to sell your stake before this Q2 earnings report.

Tesla TSLA is slated to release second-quarter 2025 results on July 23, after the closing bell. We will focus on the company’s Energy & Service and Other Businesses, which are currently experiencing an improvement in their performance.
TSLA missed earnings estimates in three of the trailing four quarters and surpassed once, the average negative surprise being 8.33%. Before we delve into the factors that are set to shape its upcoming results, here’s a snapshot of its first-quarter 2025 earnings report.
Tesla’s Q1 Highlights
In the first quarter of 2025, the electric vehicle (EV) titan reported earnings per share of 27 cents, which fell from the year-ago figure of 45 cents and missed the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 44 cents. Total revenues came in at $19.33 billion, witnessing a year-over-year decline of 9%. The top line also missed the consensus mark of $21 billion.
Tesla’s first-quarter energy deployment rose to 10.4 GWh from 4.05 GWh in the first quarter of 2024. Energy Generation and Storage revenues totaled $2.73 billion in first-quarter 2025, surging 67% year over year but lagging our estimate of $3 billion. Services and Other revenues totaled $2.64 billion, up 15% year over year.
Tesla had cash/cash equivalents of $37 billion as of March 31, 2025. Long-term debt and finance leases, net of the current portion, totaled $5.3 billion, down from $5.7 billion as of Dec. 31, 2024. The company generated FCF of $664 million during the reported quarter, which fell from $2.8 billion generated in the year-ago period.
Strong Energy & Service and Other Businesses to Aid TSLA
Tesla’s energy storage deployments have been steadily growing over the past year, thanks to expanding Powerwall and Megapack capacity. In the first quarter of 2025, Powerwall deployment hit a record 1 GWh despite ongoing supply constraints. In the second quarter, the company deployed 9.6 GWh of energy storage products compared to 9.4 GWh in the second quarter of 2024. We expect revenues from Energy Generation & Storage business to be $3.04 billion, suggesting a rise of 0.7% year over year. We expect the gross margin from the Energy Generation & Storage business to rise 26.7% from 24.6% in the year-ago period.
In the first quarter of 2025, the company opened more than 1,800 new Supercharging stalls, indicating a rise of 17% year over year. Services and Other unit gross profit rose 25% year over year in the last reported quarter, aided by stronger maintenance and collision services. Services & Other revenues are expected to be around $3.15 billion, suggesting an increase of 20.7% year over year. Gross margin of Services & Other business is expected to be around 10%, up from 6.4% in the year-ago quarter.
While Tesla's core EV business is struggling with weaker deliveries, rising gross profit from Energy & Service and Other Businesses is likely to have somewhat offset Tesla’s losses in the second quarter.

The Zacks Consensus Estimate for the to-be-reported quarter’s earnings is pegged at 40 cents per share, indicating a decline of 23.08% on a year-over-year basis. The consensus mark for earnings per share has moved down by 3 cents over the past 30 days. The Zacks Consensus Estimate of $22.48 billion for sales indicates a 11.85% decline on a year-over-year basis.

Tesla, Inc. Price, Consensus and EPS Surprise
The EV maker currently has a Wall Street analyst recommendation of 2.87 on a scale of 1 to 5 (Strong Buy to Strong Sell) made by 41 brokerage firms. Of these, 12 are Strong Buy and two are Buy. Strong Buy and Buy, respectively, account for 29.27% and 4.88% of all recommendations. Based on short-term price targets offered by 34 analysts, the average price target for Tesla comes to $296.59, ranging from a low of $115.00 to a high of $500.00.
Tesla’s Dismal Q2 Delivery Numbers
Tesla reported a decline in global deliveries once again for the second quarter of 2025, marking its second consecutive quarterly drop. This leading electric carmaker delivered 384,122 (373,728 Model 3/Y and 10,394 other models) cars worldwide in the second quarter. The figure declined 13.5% from the year-ago quarter, marking the worst year-over-year decline in deliveries in the company’s history (read: Will Tesla's Worst-Ever Q2 Vehicle Sales Drop Shake its ETFs?).
Tesla produced 410,244 (396,835 Model 3/Y and 13,409 other models) vehicles during the quarter.
Robotaxi Launch
Tesla launched its long-anticipated driverless robotaxi service in Austin, TX, last month — a pivotal move in the electric carmaker’s push toward full autonomy. The launch represents a strategic pivot for Tesla amid declining vehicle sales and growing investor criticism of Musk’s leadership (read: Capitalize on Tesla's Robotaxi Momentum With These ETFs).
With this debut, Tesla entered into direct competition with Alphabet-owned Waymo, which already operates commercial autonomous taxi services in multiple U.S. cities. Tesla's move is seen as a bold attempt to prove real-world viability in an industry still grappling with safety concerns, technical challenges and regulatory scrutiny.
What to Watch
The EV maker is facing a fading EV market share, rising competition, most notably from an influx of next-generation EVs from Chinese automakers, and a somewhat tarnished brand name, with its CEO Elon Musk’s foray into politics.
Tesla is increasingly focusing on next-generation technologies, including autonomous driving and humanoid robotics. Musk has stated his ambition to expand the service to multiple U.S. cities by the end of this year, aiming for “millions of Teslas operating fully autonomously in the second half of next year.”

Tesla ETFs in Focus Ahead of Q2 Earnings

Pre-market futures are up to start a fresh trading week, though indexes are currently coming down from where they were earlier in early-morning trading. The Dow is currently +70 points, the S&P 500 is +10, the Nasdaq has gained +25 points thus far and the small-cap Russell 2000 keeps its catch-up trade levels, +13 points at this hour. We remain off highs from the first half of the month, but those also happen to be all-time highs.
Q2 Earnings Ahead of the Bell: CLF, DPZ
U.S.-based steelmaker Cleveland-Cliffs CLF outperformed expectations on both top and bottom lines this morning, with a slimmer-than-expected loss of -$0.50 per share an improvement over the -$0.68 projected. Revenues of $4.93 billion bettered the Zacks consensus by +0.62%. Shares are up +4.5% on the news. During the quarter, a 50% tariff was slapped on foreign steel imports, but the view forward is cloudier on trade policy. For more on CLF’s earning, click here.
Domino’s Pizza DPZ had a mixed performance in its Q2 results this morning, missing by -3% on its bottom line with earnings of $3.81 per share (its second miss in its last three quarters) but improving on revenues above expectations to $1.15 billion, +4.3% year over year. U.S. LEI Comes Out After Market Opens
The U.S. Leading Economic Indicators (LEI) report for June hits the tape after the opening bell this morning, with expectations for a further drift downward to -0.2% from May’s -0.1%. In last month’s report, Average Consumer Expectations for Business Conditions fell nearly as far as the S&P 500 index rose.
Most LEI numbers have been negative over the past six months, with moving goalposts regarding tariff policy have kept business owners on their heels somewhat. In the May report, a recession signal was triggered — referenced somewhat in last week’s extraordinary interview with Zacks Chief Economist John Blank in the Zacks Market Edge podcast, which can be viewed here.
What to Expect from the Stock Market This Week
Q2 earnings season heats up in a serious way, with more than 20% on the S&P 500 scheduled to report before the end of this trading week. Headliners come Wednesday, after the closing bell, with Google parent Alphabet GOOGL and challenged EV leader Tesla TSLA both reporting quarterly results.
Alphabet carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold) as of this morning, and is expected to see advertising revenues improve. Earnings are expected to have risen +13.2% in the quarter, with overall revenues +11.1%. Tesla has a Zacks Rank #4 (Sell) rating with a Value-Growth-Momentum grade of “F” as of this morning; expectations for its Q2 earnings are -23.1% year over year, and -11.9% on the revenue side.
Also this week, even though we lighten up from last week’s heavy dollop of economic reports, Existing & New Home Sales, S&P flash Services and Manufacturing PMI and Durable Goods Orders are all expected to be released. Expectations are mixed for these data points; we look forward to some of this murkiness lifting upon results being revealed.

Big Q2 Earnings Week Awaits: Pre-Market Futures Up Slightly

Despite all the attention that artificial intelligence is getting these days, perhaps the most pronounced development in the economy and markets in recent memory is the rise of the cryptocurrency industry. It's valued at $3.8 trillion today, and the increasing value of some blockchain networks has certainly made some bold and lucky speculators rich.
One of the most popular tokens is Dogecoin (CRYPTO: DOGE), which was created in 2013 as a joke to compete with Bitcoin. The dog-themed digital asset has been extremely volatile, to no one's surprise, but it has put up monster gains in the past. That's true even though it trades 67% below its record high in May 2021 (as of July 19).

But can this dog-themed cryptocurrency roughly quadruple from its current price of $0.24 to reach $1 per token in 10 years? Here are the most important factors investors should be thinking about.
Not an unrealistic gain
To be fair, in the wild world of cryptocurrencies, token prices can skyrocket to produce astronomical returns in a short time. However, it's always a good idea to hold expectations in check.
In the past decade, Dogecoin's price has soared more than 143,300% (as of July 19). The likelihood of the crypto repeating this gain during in the next 10 years is low simply because of the law of large numbers.
But it's not crazy to think Dogecoin's price might increase roughly fourfold in a decade and reach $1. Gains like that aren't unusual for stocks. It certainly wouldn't turn any heads if a crypto rose by that much.
Betting on hype cycles
What what value does Dogecoin provide? Is there a problem that this cryptocurrency solves? Digging deeper into this question will lead to a bearish outlook.
As mentioned, Dogecoin was created to a be a light-hearted rival to Bitcoin. There was really no other purpose to launching the token. Its founders, Jackson Palmer and Billy Markus, left the Dogecoin community years ago. These days, Dogecoin doesn't even crack the top 100 list of blockchains in terms of developer activity. That doesn't bode well for the likelihood that it will have real-world use cases in the future.
That brings me to what really drives Dogecoin's price action: hype cycles. A public mention by Tesla founder and Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk, or the creation of a governmental task force called the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to cut federal spending, can make the token's price surge with no warning. But when the excitement fades, the price tanks.
It's not a smart idea to invest your hard-earned savings in a crypto like Dogecoin that doesn't add value. What's more, there is no reason to expect feature updates or improved software functionality to support greater adoption and boost the price.
Competition from a proven winner
Investors have a more compelling option: Bitcoin. During the past three years, the world's leading cryptocurrency has climbed 460%, well ahead of Dogecoin's 232% gain. I think this indicates the market's waning interest in the latter, a trend I think will continue.
Bitcoin's scarcity, with a hard limit of 21 million coins, is a wildly favorable trait. Dogecoin's supply isn't capped. There are 10,000 new tokens created every minute and roughly 5 billion added to the circulation yearly. These adverse token economics are another major headwind.
While it's possible that Dogecoin's price will reach $1 by 2035, it's a bet that investors should avoid like the plague.

Tesla, and its eccentric and outspoken CEO Elon Musk, have been all over the news in 2025 after Musk entered the political scene, faced boycotts, and is embroiled in an ugly spat with US President Donald Trump over his “Big Beautiful Bill.” Beyond the headline-driven noise, the upcoming earnings report will help answer many of the questions that investors have about Tesla and its future. Though Tesla remains the dominant global electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, its legacy business has slowed. That said, in true Elon Musk fashion, Tesla is going ‘all in’ on transitioning and diversifying its business to dominate the future.
5 Questions to Ponder During Tesla’s Earnings Call
1. Can the Tesla Robotaxi Catch Waymo? Tesla finally launched its robotaxi service in Austin, Texas, late last month. Although the launch is a beta test, utilizing a limited fleet of Model Y vehicles with safety companions on board, it is meaningful in that it signifies the company’s official entrance into the robotaxi race. Currently, Alphabet’s (GOOGL) ‘Waymo’ is off to a wide lead, operating in five major US cities. That said, Tesla bulls argue that Tesla will be able to scale much faster than Waymo and at a significantly lower cost (due to the fact that FSD does not require the expensive lidar sensors used by Waymo). A key question for Tesla investors to ask is, “How quickly does Tesla plan to expand its robotaxi service to other cities?”
2. Will Tesla Invest in xAI? Elon Musk made headlines last week when his ‘Grok’ chatbot leapfrogged legacy large language AI models like Meta Platform’s (META) ‘Llama’ and OpenAI and Microsoft’s (MSFT) ‘ChatGPT’ to become the most powerful model in terms of pretraining and reasoning evaluations. Though Musk has ruled out a merger between ‘Grok’ parent XAI and Tesla, he has suggested that he may decide to hold a shareholder vote on whether Tesla should invest in xAI. A Tesla investment in xAI could provide Tesla shareholders with some reassurance in the fact that the company can diversify away from its slowing legacy business into the red-hot AI industry.
3. Will Tesla’s EV-business Steady? Tesla’s annual revenues are expected to shrink in 2025 for the first time in more than five years. Meanwhile, the company experienced its first ever margin decline in 2024 amid falling volumes and generous discount offers. Nevertheless, if Musk can reassure investors that the worst is behind them, Tesla shares can rally.

4. Can Tesla’s Energy Business Remain Electric? Tesla’s energy business is one of the few bright spots for the company recently, with energy storage deployments doubling year-over-year in 2024 as revenues spiked 67%. Can the momentum continue?

5. How will Tariffs and Politics Impact Tesla? While the global trade picture has become clearer since President Trump’s ‘Liberation Day,’ there is still considerable uncertainty about how much pressure tariffs will put on Tesla’s margins. Meanwhile, following Musk’s spat with President Trump, Musk has threatened to start a new political party. Should Musk signal that he is going through with the idea, it may hurt shares. Historical precedent illustrates that investors want Musk at the helm, and any outside distractions are often met with selling.
Beyond the questions above, investors will look for updated timelines on new products such as the ‘Optimus’ robot.
