Also, managed healthcare stocks staged a rally on Thursday, a supportive factor for the overall market, and Visa shares surged more than +6% to boost the Dow Jones Industrial Average.

However, the Nasdaq 100 fell to a 1-week low due to a sell-off in Oracle, which is viewed as a bellwether of the AI investment boom. Oracle tumbled more than 10% on Thursday, leading AI-infrastructure shares lower, after reporting Q2 cloud sales that missed estimates and raising its 2026 capital spending outlook by $15 billion to $50 billion. Oracle’s results reignited worries about tech valuations and whether the capital outlays on AI infrastructure will pay off.
US weekly initial unemployment claims rose by +44,000 to a 3-month high of 236,000, showing a weaker labor market than expectations of 220,000.
The US Sep trade deficit unexpectedly shrank to -$52.8 billion versus expectations of a widening to -$63.1 billion and the smallest deficit in 5.25 years.
The markets are discounting a 24% chance that the FOMC will cut the fed funds target range by 25 bp at the January 27-28 FOMC meeting.
Q3 corporate earnings season is drawing to a close as 496 of the 500 S&P companies have released results. According to Bloomberg Intelligence, 83% of reporting S&P 500 companies exceeded forecasts, on course for the best quarter since 2021. Q3 earnings rose +14.6%, more than doubling expectations of +7.2% y/y.
Overseas stock markets settled mixed on Thursday. The Euro Stoxx 50 rallied to a 4-week high and closed up +0.80%. China’s Shanghai Composite closed down -0.70%. Japan’s Nikkei Stock 225 closed down -0.90%.
Interest Rates
March 10-year T-notes (ZNH6) on Thursday closed up by +7.5 ticks. The 10-year T-note yield fell -0.6 bp to 4.141%. T-notes found support on Thursday on positive carryover from Wednesday when the FOMC cut its 2025 and 2026 US core PCE price estimates, and Fed Chair Powell said that he doesn't think a rate hike is anybody's base case for the Fed's next policy move. T-notes held their gains after weekly jobless claims unexpectedly rose to a 3-month high, a dovish factor for Fed policy. Decent demand for the Treasury’s $22 billion auction of 30-year T-bonds was also positive for T-notes as the auction had a bid-to-cover ratio of 2.36, right on the 10-auction average.
European government bond yields are moving lower today. The 10-year German bund yield fell -0.7 bp to 2.843%. The 10-year UK gilt yield fell -2.2 bp to 4.484%.
Swaps are discounting a 1% chance for a -25 bp rate cut by the ECB at its next policy meeting on December 18.
US Stock Movers
Cruise line operators moved higher on Thursday. Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd (RCL) closed up more than +7% to lead gainers in the S&P 500. Also, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH) closed up more than +6%, and Carnival (CCL) closed up more than +5%
Managed healthcare stocks rallied on Thursday. Elevance Health (ELV) closed up more than +5%, and Centene (CNC) and Molina Healthcare (MOH) closed up more than +4%. Also, Humana (HUM) and Cigna Group (CI) closed up more than +3%. In addition, HCA Healthcare (HCA) and UnitedHealth Group (UNH) closed up more than +2%.
Fertilizer stocks rose on Thursday after Ukraine said its drones attacked two fertilizer plants in western Russia. Mosaic (MOS) closed up more than +6%, and Intrepid Potash (IPI) closed up more than +5%. Also, CF Industries Holdings (CF) closed up more than +2%.
Chip makers retreated on Thursday, weighing on the Nasdaq 100. ARM Holdings Plc (ARM), Intel (INTC), and Marvell Technology (MRVL) closed down more than -3%. Also, Nvidia (NVDA), Broadcom (AVGO), Applied Materials (AMAT), GlobalFoundries (GFS), and Micron Technology (MU) closed down more than -1%.

Oxford Industries (OXM) closed down more than -21% after cutting its 2026 adjusted EPS forecast to $2.20-$2.40 from a previous estimate of $2.80-$3.20, well below the consensus of $2.91.
Lovesac Co (LOVE) closed down more than -8% after cutting its 2026 net sales forecast to $685 million-$705 million from a previous forecast of $710 million-$740 million, weaker than the consensus of $713.7 million.
Stellantis NV (STLA) closed down more than -3% after BNP Paribas Exane downgraded the stock to underperform from neutral.
Intuitive Surgical (ISRG) closed down more than -1% after Citigroup downgraded the stock to neutral from buy.
Gemini Space Station Inc (GEMI) closed up more than +31% after the company’s application for a derivatives exchange was approved by the Commodity Futures Exchange Commission.
Ciena Corp (CIEN) closed up more than +8% after reporting Q4 revenue of $1.35 billion, better than the consensus of $1.29 billion.
Visa (V) closed up more than +6% to lead gainers in the Dow Jones Industrials after Bank of America Global Research upgraded the stock to buy from neutral with a price target of $382.

SoundHound AI (NASDAQ: SOUN) has become one of the hottest stocks on Wall Street, rising around 170% since the start of November 2024. However, it's well off the peaks of its huge run, as it was up nearly 400% at the end of December.
With SoundHound shares down more than 40% from their all-time high, many investors may wonder whether this stock could be primed for another huge run. Some may even consider this stock a ticket to becoming a millionaire.

So, does this stock have the capability to do it? After all, one other artificial intelligence (AI) stock has already made many investors millionaires.
Its software could find use in many industries
Becoming a millionaire from one stock pick may seem like a far-fetched dream to some people, but it is entirely possible. If you invested $10,000 in Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) stock a decade ago, you would now have $2.55 million, as long as you held on and never sold.Is it possible that SoundHound could have that kind of upside? Let's take a look.
SoundHound AI's software is all about audio recognition and using that input for an AI model. Most of the generative AI models we've interacted with so far use text inputs. However, users must have access to a keyboard for this to work. That's not always a practical application.
Some customers may prefer talking to a voice (think of a drive-thru at a restaurant) or need to probe an AI assistant while driving (even if the car is fully self-driving, do you really want a keyboard in the vehicle?). This is where SoundHound's technology comes in, and it has already landed some big clients.
SoundHound's software has already been integrated into Stellantis vehicles in Europe and Japan. This is a massive auto brand, and if this technology becomes a hit, it's very likely that other automakers will partner with SoundHound as well. Many restaurants have also partnered with SoundHound to deploy its technology to integrate AI in drive-thrus and online order-taking.
All this has allowed SoundHound to develop a diversified revenue stream, where none of the sectors in its business (automotive, restaurants, financial services, healthcare, and insurance) makes up more than 25% of the total. That's a key improvement, as 72% of revenue came from one client in the automotive sector during last year's third quarter (presumably Stellantis).
SoundHound also has huge growth aspirations. It expects revenue to double in 2024, and to double again in 2025, with preliminary guidance coming in at $165 million in sales (compared to $83 million in 2024). That's massive growth, and it also sees fantastic revenue growth beyond that point.
A company's booking backlog describes the value remaining on current contracts it has signed. While this is not guaranteed revenue, it gives investors an idea of how much growth they can expect moving forward. SoundHound's backlog now exceeds $1 billion and is spread out over a six-year timeframe. That's strong projected revenue, and as the use cases for its technology increase, this backlog figure will likely rise.
The stock would need to reach unprecedented levels
But is that enough to make you a millionaire?
First, we need to set a base investment amount. We'll use $10,000 because that's what I used in the Nvidia example above. To turn $10,000 into $1 million, a stock needs to rise 100 times in value. Currently, SoundHound is a $5.4 billion company, which means it would be valued at around $540 billion if it achieved that feat.
So, what companies are valued at that threshold right now? That would put SoundHound in the same valuation range as Mastercard ($515 billion) and Oracle ($496 billion). Those are incredibly dominant companies that serve the whole globe, so this may be an unrealistic expectation.
For further comparison, some of the largest software companies in the market right now are Salesforce ($310 billion) and Adobe ($199 billion). SoundHound's current revenue looks like a rounding error for these companies, even if its strong 2025 growth is incorporated.
So, is SoundHound likely to make you a millionaire from a $10,000 investment? Probably not. But that doesn't mean it can't be a good investment. It has a strong product offering and is tackling an important niche in AI integration throughout society. It has strong growth ahead, but there are still a lot of risks involved in the stock, as other companies could easily offer an audio recognition platform that rivals SoundHound's.
If you decide to invest in SoundHound, understand there's a high risk, but if it works out, there's also a high reward.

Per autoevolution, 6,412 units from the 2025 model year are affected, along with 102,350 vehicles from 2020-2022. The production periods span Dec. 2, 2024, to April 1, 2025, for the 2025 models and Nov. 13, 2018, to April 5, 2022, for the earlier model years. All North American Escape units are assembled at Ford’s Louisville Assembly Plant in Kentucky.
Ford first examined this issue in July 2021 but closed the inquiry early, believing few vehicles were at risk. The company reopened the investigation in May 2025 after a separate recall involving 2016-2017 Explorers. Per NHTSA, dealers will check, reinstall or replace any missing liftgate hinge covers at no cost.
Per a Reuters report published on MSN, Ford is also recalling nearly 12,000 Lincoln MKT vehicles from model years 2016-2019 because the B-pillar door trim for the driver and front passenger can come loose, raising the risk of a crash. Stellantis N.V. STLA recalled 72,509 Ram models in the United States because a software malfunction can cause the instrument cluster display to go dark, per the NHTSA. This comes after Stellantis’ November recall of 112,859 U.S. vehicles due to potential engine failures or engine-compartment fire risks. Stellantis' November recall covered 2023-2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4XE and 2024-2025 Jeep Wrangler 4XE plug-in hybrids.
Rivian Automotive, Inc. RIVN also recalled 34,824 electric delivery vans in the United States because a defect in the seat belt system could prevent it from properly restraining the driver, posing a higher risk of injury in a crash, per a filing with the NHTSA. To address the issue, Rivian rolled out an over-the-air software update that automatically detects improper seat belt use.

What's Behind Ford's Recall of Nearly 109K Escape Vehicles?

If you rewind the automotive industry back about two decades, there was a fairly well-known problem with Detroit automakers such as Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) and General Motors (NYSE: GM). The problem was that to fill unused production capacity, they overproduced cars and often sold them to fleet companies at lower margin; it was an ugly business for many years.
Thankfully, Detroit automakers have mostly turned around that rough narrative, and Ford Pro, the company's commercial business, is thriving -- and a competitor is taking notice.

Profit machine
Fast forwarding back to today, and Ford's commercial business is not only thriving, it's a huge cornerstone of Ford's profitability currently -- just look at the data from the third quarter. Through the first three quarters of the year Ford Blue, which is Ford's traditional gasoline and hybrid retail business, generated $2.3 billion EBIT at a 3.1% margin. Ford Pro, which is Ford's commercial business, generated $5.6 billion EBIT at a 10.9% margin.
A simple comparison highlights just how valuable Ford Pro is to the company, especially when you consider that Ford's Model-e division, responsible for its electric vehicle (EV) ambitions, lost $3.6 billion over the same time frame. Ford Pro's paid software subscriptions grew 8% sequentially to reach 818,000 subscribers, which is more high-margin business for the automaker.
While Ford has worked long and hard to fine-tune its commercial business, which also does great in Europe, Stellantis (NYSE: STLA) has taken notice. The latter has been growing its commercial fleet business overseas in Europe, South America, the Middle East, and Africa, and now the automaker is turning its eyes toward the U.S. market where it sees opportunities in the commercial sector, rental fleets, and government orders.
Stellantis' business in Europe has been gaining traction, and its commercial division has taken about 30% market share. It's going to take a monumental effort to match that market share in the U.S., where Stellantis accounts for only about 12% of commercial fleet sales, but consistently gaining even small amounts of market share will be a bonus.
Determined not to repeat mistakes of decades past, Stellantis is focusing its commercial business on government and commercial business, which are both higher-margin businesses than rental fleet sales. It's extremely early, but there are already some positive signs for Stellantis investors as the automaker improved its commercial portfolio with refreshed heavy-duty pickups and bringing back the 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 1500.
The good news is that it's decent timing. As Stellantis continued working on its commercial business model, its U.S. fleet sales surged 22% during the third quarter. The surge was partly due to Stellantis being quick to the draw and first in the market with pricing for its 2026 models.
It's been tried before
While Stellantis has a glimpse of early success, the road will be a long one.
Meanwhile, crosstown rival General Motors experienced a speedbump in its own commercial plans. GM had expanding ambitions when it developed and launched its BrightDrop electric delivery van, but the hype quickly faded. The electric van saw production halted in May and then officially ended. GM cited several reasons, including a more slowly growing electric van market, changing regulatory environment, and the end of the federal $7,500 EV tax credit.
Ultimately, this is a bit of good news for Stellantis investors; although it will take time to gain more traction, it's one of many things the automaker needs to improve or fix amid its substantial turnaround efforts. For Ford investors, it's something to keep an eye on, but the folks at the Blue Oval have their commercial business down to a science, and that should continue to be the automaker's overlooked profit machine.

Ford's Overlooked Profit Machine Is Under Attack by Rival

In trading on Tuesday, shares of Stellantis NV (Symbol: STLA) crossed above their 200 day moving average of $10.38, changing hands as high as $10.57 per share. Stellantis Breaks Above 200-Day Moving Average - Bullish for STLA

The Chinese EV maker could slowly be making its way to the U.S. market.
Nio (NYSE: NIO) investors had been patiently waiting for this growth phase to take off. It was only a matter of time before Nio's recently launched, and more affordable, brands Firefly and Onvo gained traction and drove deliveries higher. In October, Nio's deliveries jumped 92.6% compared to the prior year, and year-to-date deliveries are up nearly 42%. Meanwhile, despite being in the middle of this growth phase, the automaker is already putting its fingerprints on the next phase.
What's going on?
Nio's Firefly brand is the youngest of its brands and still has immense near-term upside, as the brand's total of 5,912 vehicles delivered in October was only about 14% of the automaker's monthly total. What's intriguing about Firefly, for investors, is that the brand was designed with global markets in mind. More specifically, it was largely focused on the compact car segment that accounts for about 17% of global annual sales, and Europe is home to a third of those compact cars.

Nio's recent move goes beyond just preparing to sell overseas, and it's specifically seeking growth in right-hand-drive markets that don't have punitive tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles (EVs). Just this week Nio rolled out its first round of right-hand-drive vehicles for export to Singapore; the automaker plans to enter Thailand and Great Britain next year.
Europe will be a critical aspect to Nio's overseas expansion, and Nio took European consumer preferences into consideration when it was designing Firefly's digital system interface. The automaker will have to overcome some headwinds as tariffs forced Nio to increase the price on its vehicles, but they remain very competitive on price.
The elephant in the room
Nio's move to begin expanding into right-hand-drive territory tells investors two things. First, it tells investors that Nio is still under immense pressure to improve financials at a time its home market is in a brutal price war that's eroding margins. In fact, Nio isn't the only Chinese automaker trying to drive its top and bottom lines with exports: At the beginning of the decade, Chinese automakers barely exported 1 million vehicles; this year, that figure is expected to reach 7.5 million.
Second, it also shows investors the automaker is inching closer to potentially entering the lucrative U.S. market, which is currently protected by steep tariffs on imported vehicles, but it's not the next step. Detroit automakers such as Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F), General Motors (NYSE: GM) and Stellantis (NYSE: STLA) are well aware of the approaching Chinese auto threat. Ford CEO Jim Farley went as far to call it an "existential threat".
What it all means
For Nio investors, the automaker dipping its toes into right-hand-driving markets is great not only to expand sales in the near term; exporting vehicles from China also helps occupy production capacity at a time the industry has overcapacity. It also prepares the company's products to adapt for broader international expansion. Nio is currently going through a growth phase with its newly launched Onvo and Firefly brands, but its expansion overseas is already in the works and could take the company to another level.
On the flip side, for Detroit automakers, with EVs quickly taking market share in China's automotive market and subsidized automakers focusing on EV technology, Chinese-made autos could soon find their way to U.S. shores because tariffs can't protect domestic autos forever. It will be imperative for investors to keep track of developments such as Ford's recently unveiled universal EV platform and assembly tree production, which will simultaneously build multiple parts of the vehicle before combining them at the end to save time and cost. In fact, Ford's first EV to roll off this new production system will be an EV truck that Ford expects to be profitable very early in its life cycle -- a big step to begin competing with the Chinese EVs.
Nio is still an unprofitable company in a capital-intensive industry and is facing increasing competition in its home market and abroad. Investors would be wise to limit Nio to small positions or watch this from the sidelines, but for long-term investors, Nio's path forward looks solid.

Nio Takes Critical Step for Its Next Growth Phase

(RTTNews) - Stellantis announced the adoption of the North American Charging System (NACS) for select battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) in North America, Japan, and South Korea. This strategic move will provide Stellantis customers with future access to more than 28,000 Tesla Superchargers across all five countries, significantly expanding fast-charging convenience and enabling greater confidence in long-distance travel.
Beginning in early 2026, Stellantis BEVs in North America will be compatible with Tesla Supercharger locations, with Japan and South Korea following in 2027. This rollout will start with existing North American BEVs such as the Jeep Wagoneer S and Dodge Charger Daytona, and will later include the all-electric 2026 Jeep Recon along with other upcoming models.
