Since 2024, Stellantis (NYSE: STLA), Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F), and General Motors (NYSE: GM) have traded completely separately despite their business similarities. General Motors has more than doubled in share price, while Ford has remained in neutral with a 2% decline over that timeframe, and Stellantis tumbled 70% lower. Evolution of sales
Carvana is no stranger to growth after the company pumped major capital into its early expansion plans. Although Carvana has its notable and unique car vending machines, the used-car retailer primarily did business online. That's changing as the company evolves. Carvana scooped up yet another Stellantis dealership last week in its evolution to a hybrid sales model of online and in-person.
When investors scratch the surface, it seems like a fine strategy. While people adapted to the online vehicle sales method, and some even preferred it, Carvana knew there were still consumers only reachable through in-person visits. Buying dealerships not only reaches these consumers, it opens doors to new-vehicle sales, which come with higher margins.
These dealership locations also expand the company's distribution network with these six largely U.S. Southwestern stores. Previously, Carvana's network was heavier on the U.S. East Coast. It also secures Carvana a valuable pipeline of trade-in and off-lease vehicles, which it can then refurbish, certify, and resell.
Carvana could have scooped up dealerships of any automaker or brand, for the most part, which signals that it's betting on Stellantis to have a turnaround and become more relevant again. But should investors make a similar investment?
Not so fast
Before investors are quick to jump aboard a potential Stellantis turnaround, it's wise to glance at a number of challenges facing the company.
First, it should be noted that Stellantis is coming with some financial struggles. One example is the automaker's recent roughly $26 billion charge late in 2025 for a major electric vehicle (EV) strategy adjustment. That had ripple effects on the company, including a massive drop in stock price and a suspended dividend. In fact, for context, that massive charge is larger than the automaker's current market capitalization, which sits at roughly $20 billion.
Another challenge facing Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa is navigating through the company's large portfolio of 14 automotive brands. These include a Detroit heartbeat with Jeep, Ram, and Chrysler, and Italian flair with Fiat and Alfa Romeo -- though the latter two seem to lack global synergy. Stellantis'global marketshare has fallen from 8.1% in 2020 to roughly 6.1% in 2025, according to S&P Global Mobility, and some Stellantis brands require significant investment to revive sales.
One of Stellantis' largest challenges will be reviving its North American business core, where high prices, poor product mix, and neglected brands caused not only a sales collapse but turmoil between the automaker and its dealership network. The automaker is pumping a roughly $13 billion investment into the business to reintroduce more gasoline-powered and hybrid models to recapture share. But that could put it even further behind rivals in the evolution toward electric vehicles.
Carvana's strategy to scoop up Stellantis dealerships would work better if the automaker can turn its business around, but it's not absolutely necessary. For investors, Stellantis might be opportunity knocking, but it's not yet time to answer the door.

An Interesting Big Name Is Betting on a Stellantis Turnaround -- Should You?

A few years back, electric vehicles (EV) were one of the hottest themes in investing. Tesla’s success paved the way for many EV pure plays to go public, while legacy automakers committed billions of dollars to shift gears toward electric mobility. It was seen as the next big transformation in autos that would drive future revenue and earnings growth.
But the hype has faded. EVs have proved to be a costly transition, adoption has slowed, and things haven’t quite played out the way many had anticipated. In the United States, the EV market has struggled to hold momentum, partly due to weaker government support. The Trump administration rolled back incentives and regulations meant to boost EV sales. A key tax credit— worth up to $7,500 for qualifying EVs and plug-in hybrids— expired last September, removing an important demand driver. This has weakened the near-term case for EVs, even though they are still widely considered to be the future of transportation.
In response, many auto giants such as Ford F, General Motors GM and Stellantis STLA have reconsidered their EV strategies and taken write-off charges on related investments that no longer make business sense. The latest casualty is Honda HMC, which announced yesterday that it expects to take charges of up to $16 billion in the fiscal year ending March 31, 2026, as it pivots away from EVs.
Interestingly, Honda’s closest peer appears to have largely avoided this situation. That is the Japanese auto titan Toyota TM. The company did not go all in on EVs when the rest of the industry was aggressively investing in the technology, a decision that drew criticism at the time. But that cautious approach now seems to be paying off, as Toyota has not announced any EV write-downs so far.
Surprisingly though, the same automaker is now preparing to double down on EVs at a time when demand remains uncertain. Before discussing its strategy, let’s briefly look at how Ford, General Motors, Stellantis and Honda ended up taking write-offs on their EV bets.
$70B EV Reality Check for F, GM, STLA and HMC
Ford is moving away from its plans to manufacture large EVs. Instead of rolling out expensive, capital-heavy EVs into a reluctant market, Ford will now focus on profitable hybrids and internal combustion vehicles, while narrowing its EV efforts to smaller, lower-cost models. At the center of this shift is Ford’s new Universal EV Platform. Ford’s first vehicle built on the platform will be a midsize electric pickup. Notably, the company has even discontinued the fully electric version of its best-selling F-150 pickup. Ford announced $19.5 billion in EV-reset related charges.
General Motors also responded to slower-than-expected EV demand by selling its stake in the Ultium Cells Lansing plant and pivoting some assembly capacity from EVs back to internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. The company took $7.6 billion in charges in the second half of 2025 to reduce EV capacity.
Last month, Stellantis confirmed that it incurred around $25 billion in losses related to EV restructuring in the second half of 2025.Its RAM brand discontinued its planned all-electric pickup. The company is repositioning its North American strategy around conventional hybrids and extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs), which offer electric driving with longer range and reduce dependence on charging infrastructure.
Honda, as mentioned earlier, will be taking a massive hit of roughly $16 billion and is now projecting a full-year loss of 340-570 billion yen in fiscal 2026. It has canceled its highly anticipated 0 Series SUV and sedan just months before planned production, shifting its focus toward developing more competitive hybrid models while expanding its motorcycle business to strengthen profitability.
With that, the cumulative EV-restructuring losses for these four automakers come to roughly $70 billion.
Toyota Expands EV Push As Rivals Retreat
For years, Toyota prioritized hybrids over fully electric vehicles and was often viewed as one of the slowest legacy automakers to embrace BEV technology. Until the start of this year, the brand had only one EV offering in the U.S. market — the Toyota bZ.
That is now changing. Toyota is expanding its battery-electric lineup in the United States, with additions such as the Toyota Highlander EV, Toyota bZ Woodland and Toyota C???HR EV, per Autoblog. The new lineup spans multiple segments— from compact SUVs to more lifestyle-oriented crossovers— helping the company target a broader group of buyers.
Toyota views this expansion as a natural next step after the success of its hybrid strategy. Hybrid models have grown rapidly. That large base of hybrid customers could eventually become a pipeline of EV buyers.
The company is also trying to manage costs more efficiently. The company is also looking to control EV costs by leveraging its global operations and sourcing batteries from its new North Carolina plant. The Highlander EV will be Toyota’s first three-row electric SUV and also the first Toyota EV assembled in the United States.
At the same time, Toyota is rolling out updated EV models and offering pricing incentives to attract buyers now that the $7,500 federal EV tax credit is no longer available. With longer range, quicker charging and aggressive pricing, Toyota is betting its new EVs can appeal to mainstream buyers at a time when much of the industry is stepping back.
Last Word
In hindsight, Toyota’s reluctance to rush into EVs has saved it from the costly reset now facing several rivals. By holding back earlier, the company now appears to be in a better position to expand its EV push. Whether Toyota’s timing proves right remains to be seen, as EV demand is uneven and policy support uncertain. But if demand picks up again, that positioning could give Toyota an advantage as the next phase of the EV transition unfolds.

EV Write-Offs Rise, Yet One Auto Giant Is Doubling Down

Detroit automakers, still generally known as Ford Motor Company, General Motors, and Stellantis (NYSE: STLA), have much in common as businesses, but the stocks have traded much differently over the past year. While GM has soared nearly 60%, Ford has lagged its rival slightly with a 22% gain, but Stellantis has spiraled 43% lower. For some, Stellantis has been considered a turnaround possibility, and there's one unusual name banking on a Stellantis rebound: Carvana (NYSE: CVNA).
What's going on?
Carvana's mission is to change the way people buy and sell cars, initially with a primary focus on used vehicles and online sales. Some investors might recall the company's unique car-vending machines that help drive brand awareness, provide unique user experiences, and give the company a brick-and-mortar footprint.

Carvana is now doing something interesting; it's buying new car dealerships. On March 3, it took yet another step forward, buying its sixth new car dealership that more closely connects the used car retailer with Stellantis and new car sales.
The most recent purchase was a Stellantis dealership west of Boston, renamed as Carvana Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep-Ram (CDJR). Carvana previously purchased five other CDJR stores spread between California, Arizona, and Texas. Carvana hasn't given specifics behind its strategy, but it's easy to see the potential gains. Buying physical dealerships will shift the used car retailer to a hybrid model incorporating online sales with local and physical original equipment manufacturer (OEM)-certified inventory.
Beyond that, the strategy will also secure a backlog of used car inventory from trade-ins and off-lease vehicles, boost margins with new car sales, and serve consumers who still want to test drive or pick vehicles up in person. Furthermore, the acquisitions, which are largely in California, Arizona, and Texas, appear to be located to strengthen and extend their national distribution network, which has a heavier East Coast footprint.
The broader strategy makes a lot of sense for the company and its investors, especially when done at a calculated pace -- rather than the rapid and costly expansion that caused the business some difficulties in the past. However, one question remains.
Why Stellantis?
As previously mentioned, Stellantis has traded unfavorably compared to its close rivals, and perhaps that gave Carvana a great price to scoop up some downtrodden dealerships on the cheap. For instance, Carvana paid only $160 million for the first five stores, according to a regulatory filing.
However, with Carvana now primarily tying its new car sales to Stellantis brands, the company is indirectly betting that the global automaker can perform a strong turnaround that includes massive reinvestment in multiple brands, repairing not only dealership network issues but hiccups with suppliers, all while adjusting its product portfolio to favor fewer full-electric vehicles in the near term without losing sight of their investment long term.
Carvana's strategy doesn't need Stellantis to perform miracles to work, but for Stellantis investors, it's a nice small vote of confidence for its road ahead. That said, Stellantis has immense work to do on numerous challenges before investors, other than Carvana, start a position.

Why in the World Is Carvana Betting on Stellantis?

Bloomberg reported that Stellantis is soliciting investment among several Chinese companies.
This would apparently be directed at its European operations.
Chinese electric vehicle (EV) and hybrid maker Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) could soon expand its business dramatically, and that possibility is attracting investors to its equity. They were driving its U.S.-listed American Depositary Shares (ADSes) up by 15% week to date as of early Friday morning, according to data compiled by S&P Global Market Intelligence.
Partners wanted?
Shortly before market open Thursday, Bloomberg reported that Stellantis -- a vehicle conglomerate with a bulging portfolio of brands including Jeep, Chrysler, and Peugeot -- is exploring potential deals with Chinese auto makers. Citing unnamed "people familiar with the matter," thefinancial newsspecialist wrote that Stellantis is seeking investors for its European operations.

According to those sources, executives from the company have met with Xpeng and Chinese tech company Xiaomi to discuss such a collaboration. This might include the acquisition of stakes of Stellantis' European brands; Maserati was mentioned in particular. A deal could also (or instead) cover vehicle-making capacity on the continent, a boon to Xpeng's global ambitions.
Xpeng has a manufacturing presence in Europe, but it's fairly light and relatively recent. Toward the end of last year, it launched production in an Austrian plant owned and operated by a subsidiary of Canadian auto tech and industrial company Magna International.
Global goals
By contrast, within its fairly sizable European portfolio, Stellantis has a wide network of factories across the continent. I'd imagine this is the major attraction for Xpeng in any potential tie-up; at a stroke, it would dramatically expand the company's manufacturing footprint in the huge European Union market, at least (assuming Stellantis is willing to offer this, of course).
Xpeng and other Chinese automakers are ambitious companies that want to make their mark on the world, not just in their native country or continent. The possibility of a deal with Stellantis could be significant in these aims, if the article is accurate, and investors are right to be bullish.

Why Xpeng Stock Was Winning This Week

Archer’s stock has slumped since its market debut.
But it could soar a lot higher once the FAA clears its first commercial flights.
Archer Aviation (NYSE: ACHR), a developer of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, hasn't impressed many investors since it went public through a merger with a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) in September 2021. The combined company's stock opened at $9.90 on its first day, but it now trades at about $6.
Like many SPAC-backed start-ups, Archer disappointed its initial investors by falling short of its own ambitious forecasts. Instead of hitting its targets of producing ten Midnight eVTOLs in 2024 and 250 eVTOLs in 2025, it has only manufactured two eVTOLs as of this writing.

In 2025, it generated a mere $0.3 million in revenue while incurring a net loss of $618.2 million. Those numbers look disastrous, but I believe Archer could still deliver a ten-bagger gain (or more) from its current levels if it finally ramps up production over the next decade.
Why could Archer Aviation's stock soar?
Archer's Midnight eVTOL carries a single pilot and four passengers, travels up to 100 miles on a single charge, and can achieve a maximum speed of 150 miles per hour. Compared to helicopters, eVTOLs are greener and easier to land in crowded urban areas.
At the end of 2025, Archer already had an "indicative" (non-committal) backlog of $6 billion with pending orders for approximately 1,200 aircraft. Its top customers include United Airlines (NASDAQ: UAL), Future Flight Global, Soracle (a joint venture between Japan Airlines (OTC: JAPSY) and Sumitomo (OTC:SSUM.F)), Ethiopian Airlines, and Abu Dhabi Aviation. All those companies want to use Midnight for short-range air taxi services. Archer's top investor, Stellantis (NYSE: STLA), will serve as its contract manufacturer for those aircraft.
By 2028, analysts expect Archer's revenue to soar to $512.4 million. With a market cap of $5.5 billion, it still looks reasonably valued at 11 times that estimate.
What challenges does it face?
However, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) hasn't approved Archer's first commercial flights. Its first air taxi flights in Abu Dhabi, which were scheduled to start this year, will likely be delayed by the intensifying conflict with Iran. So until the FAA approves its first flights and the situation in the Middle East improves, Archer's stock will remain out of favor.
That said, the global eVTOL market could still grow at a 23.5% CAGR from 2025 to 2034, according to Exactitude Consultancy. So if you expect Archer to overcome its challenges and scale up its deliveries over the next decade, it could deliver much bigger gains.

How Buying Archer Aviation (ACHR) Stock Today Could 10X Your Net Worth

Ford’s F February sales data points to a slowdown in its electric vehicle (EV) business, led by a sharp decline in F-150 Lightning sales. Ford sold just 2,122 electric vehicles in February, marking a 71% year-over-year decline. F-150 Lightning sales plunged more than 76% to 522 units. The Mustang Mach-E also saw demand soften, with sales falling about 55% to 1,502 units, while E-Transit van sales tumbled nearly 95% to just 98 units.
The broader picture looks less dramatic, but still shows softness. Total Ford sales slipped 5.5% to 149,962 units in February. Internal combustion engine vehicles remained the company’s backbone, with 135,830 units sold, essentially flat from last year. Hybrid vehicles totaled 12,010 units, though even that segment declined about 22%. Traditional and hybrid models are driving the bulk of Ford’s sales volumes as EV demand weakens.
The F-150 Lightning’s Reality Check
The Lightning’s trajectory is particularly striking. When Ford first introduced the electric pickup, it was widely seen as a symbol of the future of American trucks. But the reality has proven more complicated. High battery costs and interest rates have made the vehicle expensive to build and harder for buyers to justify. As demand cooled, Ford had to scale back production plans, reduce factory shifts and adjust output to prevent excess inventory.
The automaker has recalibrated its strategy. Ford is no longer producing a fully electric version of its F-150 pickup, with future versions expected to incorporate hybrid elements, including a gas-powered generator.
Ford’s EV Reset
Ford is shifting its focus toward profitable hybrids and traditional vehicles while narrowing its pure EV efforts. Slower EV adoption, changing U.S. regulations under the Trump administration, and rising costs are forcing Ford to rethink priorities. Large electric pickups in North America— a segment where Ford bet heavily— have seen weaker adoption.
Going forward, Ford plans to concentrate its EV efforts on smaller, more affordable models built on its upcoming Universal EV Platform, which aims to deliver higher-volume electric vehicles at lower costs.
Ford Is Not Alone
Across the industry, automakers are admitting that EV demand—especially in the United States—has not lived up to expectations. The United States has started to lag behind in EV adoption, largely due to weaker government support. That gap widened further after the Trump administration rolled back incentives and regulations meant to boost EV sales. A key tax credit—worth up to $7,500 for qualifying EVs and plug-in hybrids—expired in September, removing an important demand driver.
Other auto giants like General Motors GM and Stellantis STLA are also realigning their strategies.
Ford’s closest peer, General Motors, has responded decisively to slower-than-expected EV demand. The company sold its stake in the Ultium Cells Lansing plant and pivoted some assembly capacity from EVs back to ICE vehicles. While General Motors took $7.6 billion in charges in the second half of 2025 to reduce EV capacity, these actions are expected to lower fixed costs.
Italian-American automaker Stellantis is rethinking its EV vision in the United States. Its RAM brand discontinued its planned all-electric pickup and delayed the Ramcharger EREV to late 2026. Stellantis booked around €22.2 billionin charges for the second half of 2025 amid EV weakness and a pivot to ICE and hybrid vehicles.

Ford's February EV Slump: Why the F-150 Lightning is Losing Charge

That's the scenario facing investors of automakers such as Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F), General Motors (NYSE: GM), and Stellantis (NYSE: STLA). There is a silver lining, however.

What happened?
Decades ago, Japanese automakers flooded the market with more fuel-efficient vehicles and caught Detroit off guard, causing years of turbulence and some serious adjustments in attitude and strategy. Detroit automakers are now much more forward-looking and prepared, and in the case of electric vehicles, it cost investors a pretty penny.
Generally, being early to market is viewed as a positive, especially when the long-term future seems so certainly electric for vehicles. Unfortunately, Detroit automakers took it on the chin with massive EV-related charges.
"We are resetting our product plan and our EV supply chain to reflect much more real customer demand, a shift in regulation, following an initial overestimation of the pace of adoption of electrification in the regions," said Antonio Filosa, who became Stellantis' CEO in June 2025, according to Automotive News.
Stellantis' charges registered an eye-popping $26 billion, which includes $17.5 billion for canceled vehicle programs and another $2.5 billion for adjusting its EV supply chain. Further, Stellantis went as far as to end a battery joint venture with South Korean LG Energy Solution.
Though Ford took much of its charges in late 2025 for canceling the F-150 Lightning electric pickup truck in its current form, among other EV-related charges, the automaker's adjusted strategy will cost roughly $20.9 billion through 2027.
General Motors spread out its pain a bit, taking over $7 billion in EV-related charges in 2025 with the expectation of lesser, but still notable, charges in 2026. Among its moves was canceling the Chevrolet BrightDrop electric commercial van -- remember that rival Ford generates massive business with Ford Pro commercial business -- and reorganized a planned electric pickup plant to be converted to produce gasoline-powered trucks.
What it all means
Investors could easily be discouraged by the scenario of being too early to the EV market and it costing billions. However, the silver lining is that automakers once known for arrogance and remaining stuck in the status quo are much more aware and prepared, which will serve the companies well in the grand scheme of things. These charges are massive but are still a speed bump in the bigger picture, and these automakers are much better investments than they were decades ago.

How Being Early to the Market Cost These Companies Tens of Billions

In the second quarter of 2017, Warren Buffett, then the CEO of Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRKB), made a somewhat contrarian bet, having the conglomerate buy 10 million shares of General Motors (NYSE: GM) at an average closing price of $33.95. At the time, that move increased Berkshire's stake in the automaker by 20%.

Buffett liquidated his position in the company in 2023, when its shares were trading at $35.59. That wasn't a big score, relatively speaking. But what if Berkshire Hathaway had held onto those shares?
Today, GM is trading at more than $80 a share, and if you had bought the stock in 2017 and reinvested its dividends, your total return would be 159.4%. Now that's a payday.
How is GM doing now, though?
General Motors reported revenue of $185 billion in 2025, down 1.3%. Its earnings per share (EPS) declined even further, by 48.7%, to $3.24. Those numbers, though, were somewhat distorted by a fourth-quarter $7.2 billion write-down relating to the slowdown in its electric vehicle (EV) business. Most of those costs are the result of GM ending or restructuring contracts with suppliers in light of the fact that its EV sales are no longer growing at the rate it expected them to.
However, the company remains a solid dividend stock, despite those declines. In conjunction with its Q4 earnings report, it raised its quarterly dividend payout by 20% to $0.18 per share, and announced a $6 billion stock repurchase authorization.
The impacts of President Donald Trump's tariffs, as well as a slowdown in EV sales after his Big Beautiful Bill ended the tax break that American buyers had enjoyed on those vehicles, have forced the automaker to adjust. However, it says it expects 2026 EPS of between $11 and $13, a huge jump from the $3.27 it booked in 2025, and a fairly solid improvement from its adjusted EPS of $10.60. It's also guiding for adjusted earnings before interest and taxes of $13 million to $15 billion, compared to $12.7 billion in 2025.
Because the Trump administration rolled back auto emissions standards, carmakers can focus on higher-margin gas-powered vehicles again and reduce their financial exposure to EVs, which explains some of GM's optimism.
Less appealing as an income stock
Are the risks of buying GM today worth it for its dividend? Not really, if you look at the numbers. The yield is a low 0.9% at the current share price, though it's relatively safe given the company's payout ratio of 37%. However, you don't have to look very far to see that GM slashed its dividend by 76.3% in 2022 amid a period of weaker sales due to the pandemic. The automotive sector is notoriously cyclical. Automakers have a lot of fixed costs, so when sales slump, it isn't easy for them to cut costs to maintain their margins.
The majority of the company's write-offs related to its EV business are likely in the rearview mirror, which is why it could soon return to greater profitability. The difficulty I see, though, is that its annual revenues have only grown by a total of 24% over the past decade, while its annual EPS has fallen by more than 45%.
The company's shares may be inexpensive, though, compared to its longtime Detroit competitors. GM is trading at around 6.2 times expected forward earnings, marginally less than Chrysler parent Stellantis' (NYSE: STLA). 6.5 and comfortably below Ford Motor Company's (NYSE: F) 8.7.

9 Years Ago, Warren Buffett Predicted This Investment Would Pay Off: Here's How It's Doing

Ford (NYSE:F), which develops, delivers, and services Ford and Lincoln vehicles worldwide, closed Monday at $13.39, down 4.97%. Shares moved lower after a newly announced multi-million-vehicle U.S. recall related to towing and trailer safety functionality, and investors are watching how added quality costs and reputational pressure could affect future profitability.
Trading volume reached 103.7 million shares, coming in about 70% above its three-month average of 61 million shares. Ford IPO'd in 1972 and has grown 516% since going public.
How the markets moved today
S&P 500 (SNPINDEX:^GSPC) inched up 0.04% to 6,882, while the Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQINDEX:^IXIC) gained 0.36% to finish at 22,749. Among automotive rivals, General Motors (NYSE:GM) closed at $77.76, down 1.21%, while Stellantis (NYSE:STLA) finished at $7.63, falling 5.69% as investors reassessed sector quality and EV strategies.
What this means for investors
Quality has been a thorn in Ford’s side for years. In 2022 the company hired a "quality czar” to spearhead improvements. Jim Baumbick was appointed to this role to oversee the company's efforts in improving vehicle quality and addressing quality-related issues.
Yet even as CEO Jim Farley touted quality gains back in 2024, issues persist. The most recent nearly 5 million vehicle U.S. recall was for a towing and trailer safety issue.
It’s not just about warranty costs hurting profitability. It affects the brand’s reputation and could impact future sales. Ford stock has been on a tear over the last year, rising 40% Persistent quality issues could halt that momentum.

Stock Market Today, March 2: Ford Falls After Multi-Million-Vehicle Recall Hits Investor Confidence

Despite similarities in business strategy, these three automakers have traded differently in recent years.
Ford is pivoting its strategy to stoke growth on the top- and bottom-lines.
Ford Pro could be the automaker's key to improving profits.
Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F), General Motors (NYSE: GM), and Stellantis (NYSE: STLA) certainly have much in common as automakers, especially considering their core profit engine, North America. Despite so much in common, the three stocks have traded wildly differently over the past three years with GM nearly doubling, Ford remaining largely flat with a 9% gain, and Stellantis shedding roughly half of its value. Ford's stock price seems stuck in a rut, and one way to help push its value higher is improved profitability, and the fourth quarter gave investors a tiny glimpse of how more profitability is happening.
The growth is there
If investors have been listening, there's a growth story for Ford. In fact, Ford just posted record revenue for the full-year 2025 at $187.3 billion, which was its fifth consecutive year of growth. Ford is currently pivoting its sales strategy away from less profitable full-electric vehicles (EVs), waiting for the market to develop before its next push in 2027, and toward historical gasoline-powered SUVs, trucks, and hybrid options which are much more profitable now. In fact, in part thanks to hybrid sales, Ford's U.S. market share moved 0.6 percentage points higher to 13.2%, its best sales performance since 2019.

Ford is working on a bottom-line growth story for investors, too.
Project: Improve margins
Like many of its competitors, Ford immediately went to work last year on reducing the impact of new tariffs slapped on imported vehicles and automotive parts. The good news is that it's been able to deliver investors $1.5 billion, excluding tariff impacts, in total cost reductions, which were 50% more than initial targets.
Further adding to the improving margin story is that Ford's Raptor and other performance trims, which generate higher average transaction prices (ATPs) and margin, accounted for a sizable 20% of its U.S. sales mix, a 2 percentage point gain. The F-Series, which hauls the big bucks for the Detroit icon Ford, just put the finishing touches on its 49th consecutive title as America's best-selling truck, with sales moving more than 8% higher in 2025.
Last, but certainly not least, is Ford's hidden gem: Ford Pro. The unit is responsible for Ford's commercial business -- think fleet, rental, large vans, and B2B sales -- and generated a hefty $6.8 billion in earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) in 2025 at an impressive 10.3% margin, which is high in the mainstream automotive industry. For context, Ford Blue, the company's traditional vehicle-selling business, generated $3 billion EBIT in 2025 at a much more modest margin of 3%. Icing on the cake is that Ford Pro paid subscriptions were up 30% in 2025, compared to the prior year, with software business generating gross margins over 50%. Ford Pro's software and physical services contributed 19% of Ford Pro's EBIT (TTM).
What it all means
For investors, while Ford's bottom-line disappointed Wall Street analysts during Q4, and the company's stock price has been stuck in a rut for the past three years, there is still a growth story. Ford's top-line is setting records; it's working on improving margins and reducing costs; and when losses reverse in its Model e division, responsible for its EVs, it will be a huge boost to Ford's profitability in the next few years.
