Archer Aviation (NYSE: ACHR) is one of the biggest names in the fledgling market for electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. It and peer Joby Aviation are the leading U.S.-based players in the space, and could be positioned to score big wins if category demand takes flight.
While Archer's share price climbed as high as $14.62 in October 2025, it has since slumped back to the $5.50 range where it traded in late 2024, down roughly 62% from its 52-week high. After that steep sell-off, is the stock a worthwhile buy?

Archer stock remains a high-risk, high-potential-reward play
As of this writing, Archer Aviation has a market capitalization of roughly $4.2 billion. However, it generated just $5 million in revenue in the second quarter. It also recorded a non-GAAP earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) loss of $177.1 million in the quarter, and management is guiding for an adjusted EBITDA loss of between $120 million and $170 million in the current quarter.
The good news is that Archer looks poised for a significant sales boost in the near future. The company is set to acquire Insitu from Boeing, and that defense-focused drone hardware and software business is generating roughly $200 million in annual sales. It's also recording profits. Along with Insitu, Archer is also acquiring two other Boeing subsidiaries: eVTOL specialist Wisk Aero and air-traffic management software specialist SkyGrid.
Archer will pay for those acquisitions in stock. With the eVTOL specialist set to give Boeing a 16.5% stake in itself through newly created shares, current shareholders are looking at a large amount of stock dilution.
While the company ended the second quarter with roughly $1.56 billion in cash and equivalents on its books, its rate of cash burn makes it likely that Archer will continue to issue new shares in order to fund its operations. The company is still in the early stages of scaling up the manufacturing of its Midnight eVTOL, and research and development (R&D) spending will likely continue to be substantial due to the competitive nature of nascent markets.
While Insitu is posting net profits, Archer will still be recording substantial losses following the integration of the unit -- and investors should understand that they are likely to see substantial stock dilution over the next five years. Archer's Midnight eVTOL remains behind Joby's comparable air taxi in terms of aviation certifications, and achieving positive gross margins on its signature aircraft within the next half-decade is probably out of the question unless production through its partnership with Stellantis scales up rapidly.
On the other hand, Archer's investment and tech-sharing partnership with Boeing and its manufacturing partnership with Stellantis have strengthened the company's foundations, and its partnership with Anduril on hybrid VTOL aircraft for moving freight in defense and commercial applications has improved its growth outlook. Archer stock remains a risky bet given the uncertain economics of untested models and technologies, but the company's position in next-generation autonomous aviation tech could make it a worthwhile buy for investors with a high tolerance for risk.

Should You Buy Archer Aviation Stock While It's Below $6?

Archer Aviation (NYSE: ACHR) is a pioneering player in the electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft space. The company is betting that it can scale eVTOL sales and services into a substantially profitable business over the long term, but it still has a lot of work to do before its operations are set up to generate reliable earnings. One piece of good news is that the company doesn't have to rely entirely on growing organically in order to achieve its goals.
Last month, Archer announced that it had entered into a deal to acquire Boeing's Wisk Aero, Insitu, and SkyGrid subsidiaries. The move immediately spurred a substantial jump for Archer's share price, but what will it mean for the company and its shareholders over the long term?

Archer's latest acquisition push looks encouraging
Of the three units Archer acquired from Boeing, Wisk is the most clearly specialized in eVTOL aircraft. In the press release announcing the acquisitions, Archer describes Wisk as "the only company that has designed, built, and flown six generations of eVTOL aircraft, amassing 1,700+ flight tests." Meanwhile, SkyGrid is touted in the press release for its air-traffic management solution and its foundational potential for the future of automated airspace, and Insitu's pioneering role in the design and manufacturing of uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS) is touted.
Archer is acquiring these units from Boeing in an all-stock deal. With the completion of the purchases, Boeing will receive newly created Archer stock that will give it a 16.5% stake in the company. In addition, Boeing will receive warrants that grant it the right to purchase up to $200 million in additional stock. With the Archer issuing so much new stock in order to fund the acquisitions, that means that there will be a substantially dilutive impact for current shareholders. On the other hand, it could wind up being well worth it.
While heavy dilution means that shareholders will see the percentage-based size of their stake in Archer reduced, having Boeing as a large stakeholder and active partner comes with a wide range of potential benefits. As part of the deal, the two companies will enter into a technology-sharing agreement. Boeing will also retain access to Wisk's autonomous flight software for defense and commercial projects, which has positive aspects for Archer because it should support the continued integration and evolution of the tech.
Archer is rapidly diversifying
Since going public in 2021 through a merger with a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC), Archer's growth story has primarily centered around the development, testing phases, and timeline for the commercial debut of its Midnight eVTOL aircraft. While Midnight is still important for Archer, the story surrounding the company and its stock has been changing rapidly through partnerships and acquisition moves.
As noted by Archer CEO Adam Goldstein in the press release announcing the purchases from Boeing, the acquisitions are "the next big step forward in becoming a diversified platform, rapidly growing our revenue base, and bringing scale" to the business. Insitu alone is generating over $200 million in annual revenue, operating in 35 different countries, and generating profits. With the acquisition of the business, Archer's sales profile will immediately get a substantial boost -- and its margin profile should see meaningful improvement.
The partnership with Boeing and integration of Insitu, SkyGrid, and Wisk should provide valuable infrastructure that has complementary impacts across the company's business. In addition to presenting growth opportunities in their own right and supporting the evolution of the Midnight eVTOL project, the units that will be integrated into Archer will likely also help support the hybrid VTOL Halo and Thunder crafts that it developed in conjunction with Anduril and its ZEE aviation AI software model.
Along with expanding its manufacturing partnership with Stellantis, Archer's diversification moves are better positioning the company for long-term viability. The company's chances of achieving profitability solely on the back of its Midnight eVTOL while having to handle scaling manufacturing to the point of even achieving positive gross margins always looked like a long shot, and relying more on partnerships and other avenues to growth in the aviation space is a smart move. Archer stock is still a high-risk play, but its bets on autonomous aerial technologies could pay off over the long term even if ramping for the commercial eVTOL market proceeds at a relatively slow pace.

Archer Aviation Is Buying Boeing's Wisk Aero, Insitu, and SkyGrid. What Does It Mean for Archer Aviation Stock?

In 2009, NASA released a concept video of an electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, which could hover, take off, and land vertically. That video prompted many aerospace companies to develop their own eVTOLs, but many of those projects fizzled out.
Today, two of those early movers have risen to the top of the nascent market: Joby Aviation (NYSE: JOBY) and Archer Aviation (NYSE: ACHR). Both companies could soon be cleared by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to launch their first commercial flights. However, I think it makes more sense to buy Joby instead of Archer as the top eVTOL play.

Why is Joby a better buy than Archer?
Joby's S4 and Archer's Midnight both carry a single pilot and four passengers. But the S4 travels up to 150 miles on a single charge at a maximum speed of 200 miles per hour, while the Midnight has a shorter range of 100 miles and a lower top speed of 150 miles per hour.
The S4 uses single-tilt-rotor propellers for lifting and cruising. That makes it lighter, faster, and more energy efficient than the Midnight, which uses separate propellers for both tasks. Joby is also developing a hydrogen-powered eVTOL, but Archer isn't.
Joby aspires to become a vertically integrated "transportation as a service" provider that manufactures, owns, and operates its own fleet as a first-party air taxi network. To support that expansion and streamline its supply chain, it mainly uses first-party components. Archer plans to become an OEM for other aviation companies and relies heavily on third-party suppliers.
Joby and Archer have plenty of support from big investors and partners. Toyota, Delta, and Uber (NYSE: UBER) back Joby. Stellantis and United Airlines support Archer. Both eVTOL makers also plan to launch their first commercial flights in the U.S. and the UAE.
However, Joby is farther along in the FAA's multi-stage certification process than Archer. With some help from Uber -- which plans to integrate Joby's S4 flights into its new Uber Air service -- Joby could expand its commercial flights at a much faster rate than Archer.
Why does Joby deserve a premium valuation?
From 2025 to 2028, analysts expect Joby's revenue to rise from $53 million to $435 million, and Archer's revenue to surge from less than $1 million to $512 million. Archer might generate more revenue than Joby by selling more eVTOLs to other companies. But as an OEM, Archer will naturally have less pricing power than Joby's vertically integrated operator business model.
Archer only trades at 8.5 times its 2028 sales, while Joby trades at 15.5 times that estimate. Archer might seem like the cheaper stock, but it's also a weaker eVTOL maker than Joby. That's why I believe investors should pay a premium for Joby but avoid Archer.

1 eVTOL Stock to Buy, and 1 to Avoid

General Motors’ GM latest agreement with Unifor strengthens its commitment to Canadian manufacturing, with more than C$1 billion in investments tied to the company’s Ontario operations. The three-year contracts, covering more than 4,600 workers, were approved by union members. The deal follows a similar agreement Unifor reached with Ford F in July, including 3% annual wage increases and improvements in benefits and job security.
For GM, however, the biggest takeaway for investors is the production visibility the deal provides. General Motors will spend C$144 million to bring next-generation Heavy-Duty GMC Sierra production to Oshawa and C$215 million to assemble a next-generation transmission at St. Catharines, with work expected to begin in late 2029. The agreement also incorporates GM’s previously announced C$691 million investment in next-generation V-8 engine production and C$63 million for additional Oshawa upgrades.
The deal is notable given the uncertainty surrounding U.S.-Canada trade. GM has also agreed not to sell or close its idled CAMI Assembly plant in Ingersoll during the contract period and will pursue measures to mitigate potential layoffs at Oshawa.
Overall, the agreement gives GM greater visibility into future production of trucks, engines and transmissions while reinforcing its Canadian manufacturing base. But is this enough to make GM stock a buy now? Let’s take a closer look.
Factors Supporting GM’s Prospects
GM’s biggest strength remains its North American truck and SUV business, where the company has maintained pricing discipline rather than relying on heavy discounts to drive sales. Incentives have stayed below the industry average for more than three years, helping protect profitability. This strategy is showing results, with GM North America’s adjusted EBIT margin recovering to 8.6% in the second quarter and 9.3% in the first half, putting the business back within management’s 8%-10% target range.
The launch of next-generation Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra models, higher full-size SUV capacity and greater U.S. production could support revenue and margins in 2027. Management has raised its 2026 adjusted EPS guidance to $12-$14 and expects 2027 results to exceed 2026.
General Motors is also making progress in China, where restructuring and cost reductions helped first-half equity income more than double to $248 million from $116 million a year earlier. At the same time, OnStar and Super Cruise are expanding GM’s recurring-revenue base, with more than $3 billion of recognized and deferred revenues expected in 2026. GM expects to add about 1 million subscribers and surpass 850,000 Super Cruise subscribers by year-end. GM Energy, GM Defense and GM Insurance offer additional growth avenues.
Strong cash generation further supports shareholder returns. GM has repurchased $2.8 billion of stock so far this year, with another $3.5 billion remaining under its authorization.
Cost Pressures Cloud the Near-Term Outlook
GM nevertheless faces several headwinds that could weigh on profitability. Commodity and logistics inflation is expected to cost the company $1.2-$1.7 billion in 2026, while gross tariff exposure remains estimated at $2.5-$3.5 billion. Although lower gross costs and potential IEEPA refunds could offset part of the impact, GM also expects higher onshoring expenses as it shifts more production to the United States. Near-term results are likely to reflect these pressures.
Management also expects fourth-quarter performance to be weaker than normal seasonal trends because of higher launch-related costs and an anticipated year-over-year production headwind of roughly 35,000 units during the transition. The transfer of Escalade production to the Orion Assembly plant is also expected to create its largest onshoring impact in the fourth quarter.
Thus, GM enters the coming period with a resilient core business and several growth opportunities, but elevated costs and production-transition pressures could temper earnings momentum in the near term.
The Zacks Rundown on General Motors
Over the last six months, GM stock has risen 11%, outpacing the industry’s decline. The stock also outperformed its closest peers, Ford and Stellantis STLA. Over the same timeframe, shares of Ford gained roughly 4%, while Stellantis shares declined 29%.
6-Month Price Performance Comparison
The stock is trading at 6.05X forward earnings, lower than Ford’s 7.27X and Stellantis’ 6.66X. GM has a Value Score of A.

Our Take
GM’s fundamentals are improving, but the stock does not yet offer a strong enough risk-reward profile to justify a clear “Buy” call. Its disciplined North American operations, product investments, recurring-revenue opportunities and shareholder returns provide a solid foundation for longer-term growth.
However, tariff uncertainty, rising costs and production-transition pressures could limit earnings momentum in the near term. With management already expecting a softer fourth quarter, investors may be better served waiting for greater clarity on margins and cost pressures.

Three legacy global automakers that have far more in common than not could hardly have traded any differently over the past three years. General Motors is firing on all cylinders after gaining 164%, while crosstown rival Ford Motor Company gained a modest 19%. The struggling Stellantis (NYSE: STLA) shed over 70% of its value during that time -- ouch.
That said, because of that drastic sell-off, investors have an opportunity to start a position in Stellantis cheaply, in hopes its massive $70 billion turnaround will gain traction and drive the stock far higher. A big part of Stellantis' turnaround focuses on Jeep, and there's some interesting news with the automaker's star brand.

Will Jeep work in China?
Jeep's importance to Stellantis' global turnaround can't be understated. Not only is it one of the automaker's four newly designated core global brands (along with Ram, Peugeot, and Fiat), but one could argue that it's the most important. Stellantis is committing 70% of its core $70 billion turnaround plan into those core four, and now we have additional insight into Jeep investment.
Jeep is making a splash and returning to Chinese production after being absent for the past four years. Previously, Jeep's China sales imploded from a peak of about 203,000 vehicles in 2018 down to almost irrelevancy at 20,000 in 2022. Jeep's return to production in China is not the only intriguing aspect of this small but brilliant move by Stellantis. Jeep will also export vehicles globally from China for the first time.
As many investors know, China's automotive market share is roughly half new-energy vehicles (NEVs), a term that includes both full-electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrids. While that may not sound like a market traditional Jeep vehicles would thrive in, Jeep's strategy includes developing two electrified Jeep vehicles with Dongfeng Motor Group, leveraging the Chinese partner's manufacturing capabilities and advanced EV technology -- a pretty big win for Stellantis and Jeep.
The new $1.2 billion Dongfeng Stellantis Automotive Technology Co. is now poised to aid in the development of two Jeep-branded and two Peugeot-branded models. All four will be EVs and plug-in hybrids. According to Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa, the new vehicles are going to be manufactured by Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen Automobile (DPCA) at its plant in Wuhan starting in 2027. They will then be distributed globally through Stellantis' international sales and distribution network, leveraging both companies' comparable strengths.
Why it's important
This is an excellent way for Stellantis to leverage excess capacity as a global export base in China. It also enables Jeep to tap directly into the advanced EV technology and development process that has been dubbed "China Speed." Chinese automakers can develop an entire new vehicle in roughly half the time the global industry has considered normal.
This small but brilliant move not only produces new Jeep vehicles and allows domestic sales to regrow, but also enables a new pathway for Jeep to export to multiple regions as opportunities or demand arise. Jeep is going to be a centerpiece of Stellantis' global turnaround, and this was just a prudent, profitable, and wise strategic move amid the automaker's broader $70 billion turnaround. Savvy investors would be wise to follow Stellantis' many moves, even small ones such as this.

Stellantis Makes a Small But Brilliant Bet With Jeep in China Amid $70 Billion Turnaround

Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) is undergoing one of the biggest evolutions in automotive industry history, and you could almost consider it outside of the auto industry looking in at this point. Its vehicles are still selling well, but they're aging and requiring more margin-eroding incentives, while its capital expenditures are set to explode as it transitions its business to include humanoid robots, artificial intelligence (AI), and its eventual robotaxi business. That said, Tesla still has a massive advantage with technology, AI, and software, highlighted in Gartner's Digital Automaker Index 2026. Here's what investors should know.
Top ranks remain
There are certainly noticeable trends within the index ranking, and Tesla's dominance still shines. The top six in the rankings remain unchanged from the prior year, and Tesla again took the No. 1 spot, improving its score from 79.3% last year to 82.7%. The next two competitors, Nio (NYSE: NIO) and Xiaomi, checked in with strong scores of 73.1% and 69.2%, respectively. Then scores drop significantly to round out the top six, represented by XPeng, Li Auto, and Rivian landing in a range of 55.5% to 57.7%.

The trend here is that U.S. young electric vehicle (EV) makers and Chinese automakers are dominating, improving nearly across the board, and legacy automakers such as General Motors (NYSE: GM), Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F), Stellantis (NYSE: STLA), and Volkswagen all fell further behind in the rankings despite large investments in software and AI. "It shows how many automakers aren't yet prepared enough to deal with AI," Gartner Vice President of Research Pedro Pacheco told Automotive News Europe.
It isn't just a Detroit auto problem, with European and Japanese automakers also struggling to close the gap with the top-ranking EV makers that have clearly been more prepared to adopt and innovate in software-defined vehicles and AI. Mercedes-Benz was the highest-scoring European automaker, ranking 11th, while Nissan and Mazda checked in at the lowest two ranks.
What does this mean?
Gartner suggests that much of the issue is the pace of internal transformation that isn't prepared to adapt to rapid tech adoption, which puts them further behind in the race to also attract talent to improve or innovate their vehicle architecture, connected vehicles, driverless technology, and AI (four of the 10 categories producing automaker scores).
For Tesla investors, this does lend some credibility to its transition into more technology-based businesses. According to Automotive News Europe, Gartner Vice President of Research Pedro Pacheco said:
When you buy technology from a vendor then any of your competitors can do the same. But if you develop the technology in-house, you have a chance to be better than the competition and differentiate yourself.
Whether or not Tesla is a stock to consider starting a position in really comes down to what you're investing for. Tesla helped change the game with EVs, but some analysts estimate that its future robotaxi business already accounts for almost half of the company's valuation. Tesla won't be the same car company investors bought into a decade ago, and its new business plans carry greater uncertainty and risk than its legacy automotive business. Tesla has problems to solve and challenging, expensive operational transformations to work through, but despite its flaws, this index suggests the company has the capability as the lines between software and traditional vehicles blur.

Despite Its Flaws, Tesla Still Dominates the World in This Index. Is the Stock a Buy Now?

Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) is thinking outside the box and making some big changes. It's planning to create sub-brands with popular models such as the Bronco SUV, adding not only a pickup version but even a luxury Lincoln variant.
Investors should be optimistic about Ford's commitment to refreshing 80% of its North American lineup and promising five models at $40,000 or lower to help address the growing affordability problem. What it's doing in Europe is just as intriguing.

Here's the latest example of the changing dynamics in joint ventures and what it means for Ford investors.
If you can't beat 'em...
In the grand scheme of the automotive industry, it wasn't all that long ago that foreign automakers entered China's massive automotive market but were forced to partner with Chinese automakers to do so. It started a trend of rapid learning among Chinese automakers, which is now culminating in Chinese automakers developing cars at roughly half the speed the industry is used to; it even has a term, "China speed." Now, at least in this recent development, the apprentice has become the master, and Ford plans to build a new SUV using Geely Auto Group's (OTC: GELHY) electrified GEA platform.
More specifically, Ford and Chinese juggernaut Geely will collaborate on a compact crossover with multiple drivetrains with a launch date of 2029. The product will be built in Valencia, Spain, and Ford plans to use Geely's GEA platform but will differentiate its product with a "rally" styling and design specs intended to draw on Ford's racing heritage.
Ford and Geely's joint venture will operate the Valencia factory, and, as part of the joint venture, Centurion Industries, which is Geely-owned, will pay the Detroit automaker $259 million for a 34% stake in the facility.
For Ford, this is unique and intriguing because it's essentially a reversal of past joint ventures with Chinese automakers, and it will enable the Detroit automaker to tap into the low cost structure and advanced electric vehicle technology that Chinese automakers are becoming world-renowned for developing at half the speed historically seen.
For Geely, this enables the company to reduce risk and capital investments and helps it expand in Europe, which has been a focus for Chinese automakers, as the domestic market has been engaged in a brutal price war. The Chinese auto market could use consolidation and an end to the brutal price wars, but it's caused Chinese automakers to focus on exports, which have absolutely soared over the past couple of years.
In fact, Geely's target is to sell 400,000 vehicles in Europe annually between Geely, Lynk & Co, and Zeekr brands. While those three bands combined for only about 25,000 vehicle sales during the first six months of this year, that's over three times the same amount last year.
Learning time
The Chinese automakers show how quickly these joint ventures can improve operations by simply learning from new processes and strategies, and if done correctly, Ford's gained knowledge could be transported back to its North American profit engine and give it an edge over the competition here, which, for now, lacks a Chinese presence due to tariffs.
Ford was early to try this new strategy, but it's certainly not the only example. Stellantis also created a joint venture with China's Leapmotor. The partnership calls for Leapmotor to utilize spare production capacity at Stellantis' Spanish factories, enabling the Detroit automaker to use a Chinese platform for its new Opel/Vauxhall SUV.
These are prudent, smart, and likely profitable moves by Ford and Stellantis, and the upside is large if the two automakers can learn to develop China speed and drastically lower costs. It's also exactly what the doctor ordered for Ford and Stellantis, as legacy automakers seem to be falling behind technological advancements, not only from Tesla and Rivian (which already helps Volkswagen with its software stack) but also from many Chinese "rivals."
Investors would be wise to keep an eye on these moves just as much as the moves to refresh Ford's portfolio in North America, because we've seen exactly what these joint ventures can do for automakers over the years -- it's just the Chinese teaching this time around.

How Ford Is Using an Unusual Strategy to Reverse Business in a Key Region. Hint: It's Using Competitors.

Qualcomm Incorporated QCOM is moving deeper into automotive, Internet of Things and data center computing as its handset business weakens. That creates a clearer diversification story, but it also raises the bar for execution.
The investment question is whether faster non-handset growth can offset Apple exposure, softer mobile economics and near-term margin pressure quickly enough to support a stronger buy case.
Qualcomm's Diversification Case Is Strengthening
Combined Qualcomm CDMA Technologies automotive and Internet of Things revenues grew 28% year over year in the fiscal third quarter of 2026. Management expects non-handset revenue growth to accelerate from 24% in fiscal 2026 to more than 60% in fiscal 2027.
Non-handsets are expected to represent more than half of Qualcomm CDMA Technologies revenues in fiscal 2027. Stellantis N.V. STLA expanded its multi-year technology collaboration with Qualcomm in May 2026 across cockpit, connectivity and driver-assistance systems, adding another example of how vehicle programs can support the shift beyond smartphones.
QCOM Faces a Steep Apple and Handset Reset
Qualcomm expects its modem share in the upcoming iPhone launch to be materially below its prior 20% assumption. Apple product revenues are expected to fall about 50% sequentially from the September to December 2026 quarters, while fiscal 2027 Apple product revenues are expected to come in below the prior outlook of slightly more than $2 billion.
Apple Inc. AAPL has introduced the C1, its first internally designed cellular modem, in the iPhone 16e. Qualcomm expects fiscal 2027 non-handset growth to replace fiscal 2026 Apple product revenues, but that substitution depends on newer businesses scaling as planned.
Qualcomm's New Growth Comes With Margin Costs
Qualcomm CDMA Technologies' earnings-before-taxes margin fell to 26% in the fiscal third quarter from 30% a year earlier. Qualcomm guides for a 23%-25% margin in the fiscal fourth quarter as higher product costs and lower revenues weigh on profitability.
Investment is also rising ahead of the data center ramp. Research and development spending increased $381 million to $2.61 billion in the latest quarter, while early custom silicon revenues are expected to dilute the segment's gross margin by 1.5-2 percentage points.
QCOM Trades at a Discount to Its Own History
QCOM trades at 4.0X trailing 12-month enterprise value-to-sales, below its five-year median of 4.1X. Its 15.9X forward 12-month price-to-earnings multiple is also below the five-year median of 16.6X.
The discount offers some valuation support, but it is not unusually wide. The Zacks Consensus Estimate points to higher revenues in fiscal 2027 than in fiscal 2026, while earnings per share are expected to decline, leaving the stock dependent on diversification delivering enough growth to offset margin and handset pressure.
Qualcomm's Scores Keep the Case Balanced
The buy case is improving as automotive, Internet of Things and data center opportunities become more meaningful. Handset weakness, Apple insourcing and near-term margin dilution still keep the risk-reward balance from looking decisively favorable.
QCOM currently carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). Its Value Score of C sits in the middle of the A-to-F scale, while its Growth Score of D, Momentum Score of F and VGM Score of F are weaker. Those readings do not provide the favorable A or B Style Score confirmation typically sought alongside top-ranked stocks.

Is QCOM Stock a Buy as Auto and AI Growth Offset Handset Weakness?

Qualcomm Incorporated QCOM shares have declined 30.6% over the past 12 weeks, sharpening the debate over whether handset weakness and near-term margin pressure outweigh faster growth in newer businesses.
Automotive, Internet of Things and data center programs are broadening the revenue mix. The question is whether that diversification can offset mobile pressures quickly enough to make the pullback more attractive.
QCOM's Handset Slump Keeps the Core Under Pressure
Qualcomm CDMA Technologies (QCT) handset revenues fell 20% year over year to $5.09 billion in the fiscal third quarter of 2026 as original equipment manufacturers reduced chipset purchases and worked down inventory amid memory supply constraints and higher memory prices.
Qualcomm expects fiscal 2026 QCT Android handset revenues to decline about 20%, with an annual earnings impact exceeding $1.50 per share. Apple Inc. AAPL has already introduced its first internally designed cellular modem, the C1, in the iPhone 16e. Qualcomm also expects its share of the upcoming iPhone launch to be materially below its prior 20% assumption.
Qualcomm's Auto Ramp Offers a Counterweight
QCT automotive revenues jumped 61% year over year to a record $1.59 billion in the latest quarter. Qualcomm raised its fiscal 2026 exit outlook for annualized automotive sales to about $7 billion, supported by higher compute content and new vehicle launches.
Stellantis N.V. STLA expanded its multi-year collaboration with Qualcomm in May 2026 to use Snapdragon Digital Chassis solutions across cockpit, connectivity and driver-assistance systems. Qualcomm's broader platform wins with Stellantis and BMW support management's view that automotive growth is shifting from individual sockets toward multi-generation engagements.
QCOM's Data Center Push Adds Upside and Margin Risk
Two custom silicon engagements with global-scale hyperscalers are expected to begin generating revenues in the December 2026 quarter, with wafer production already underway. Qualcomm targets $5 billion of data center revenues in fiscal 2027 and $15 billion in fiscal 2029.
The early ramp carries a profitability trade-off. Management expects initial custom silicon revenues to dilute QCT gross margin by 1.5-2 percentage points, even as pricing actions are intended to offset higher input costs over the next couple of quarters.
Qualcomm's Valuation Looks Cheaper Than Its History
QCOM trades at 4.0X trailing 12-month enterprise value-to-sales, below its five-year median of 4.1X. Its 15.9X forward 12-month price-to-earnings multiple is also below the five-year median of 16.6X.
The discount offers some valuation support, but it does not remove execution risk. Handset uncertainty, customer insourcing and rising investment spending leave investors weighing a cheaper multiple against a changing earnings mix.
QCOM's Signals Still Favor Patience
The pullback has made Qualcomm less expensive relative to its own history, while automotive and data center targets offer meaningful diversification potential. Near-term handset weakness and margin dilution, however, keep the risk-reward balance mixed.
QCOM currently carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). Its Value Score of C is less supportive than the preferred A or B grades, while its Growth Score of D, Momentum Score of F and VGM Score of F are weaker within the A-to-F scale. That combination supports patience until earnings and price trends strengthen.
