A higher margin story
Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F), a global automotive company developing and delivering trucks, SUVs, commercial vans, cars, and luxury vehicles, is separated into three business segments: Ford Blue, its iconic gas-powered and hybrid lineup; Model-e, its electric vehicle (EV) lineup; and Ford Pro, its commercial business.
Ford Blue continues to chug along while Model-e is suffering billions in losses as the company builds scale and volume with electric vehicles, but the growth story is found with Ford Pro. Let's compare the business segments real fast: Ford Blue generated $5.3 billion EBIT (earnings before interest and taxes) in 2024 at a 5.2% EBIT margin, while Model e lost $5.1 billion. Ford Pro checked in with $9 billion EBIT at an impressive 13.5% EBIT margin.
Not only did Ford Pro generate significantly more earnings, it did so at more than double the EBIT margins. Further driving Ford Pro's margins are its software and physical services, which contributed 17% of Ford Pro's EBIT on a trailing-12-month basis ending in the second quarter of 2025. Ford Pro paid subscriptions also surged 24% during the second quarter compared to the prior year, to 757,000.
Ford's investment thesis is pretty straightforward: Let Ford Blue chug along as it has historically while riding Ford Pro's higher margin business, and build scale and lower costs to turn Model-e's billions in losses to billions in profits. While Ford does that it will pay you a generous 5% dividend yield and will typically dish out a supplemental dividend annually with excess cash flow.
Problems continue to mount
EV maker Stellantis (NYSE: STLA) has a major turnaround effort on its hands, but at least it has a newly appointed CEO as of June 2025, Antonia Filosa, to try to lead the charge. Here's a few of the developments he'll have his hands full with in the near term, and why Stellantis' over 7% dividend yield is fool's gold.
For the first issue facing Stellantis, let's rewind to April when the company suspended its guidance due to a massive profit drop in 2024 and uncertainty with the Trump administration's tariffs. The good news is that Stellantis at least has a plan to help offset tariffs and that's to invest a hefty $13 billion on expanding production in the U.S. by 50% and launch five new vehicles for the market. That's important because it will reduce imports -- Stellantis imported roughly 600,000 of the 1.3 million vehicles it sold to Americans last year.
The rest of Stellantis' issues might not be so easy to solve in the near term. The newly appointed CEO faces some tough decisions when it comes to the company's 14 brands -- it may be time to discontinue some and refocus investment in others. Filosa will also have to mend relationships with not only suppliers but with its own dealership network.
Making the company's profitability crunch worse is that analysts, according to Barron's, estimate Stellantis' factory capacity utilization in Europe and North America to be between 50% and 60% -- a low level for the automotive industry. Filosa has his hands full with a near complete turnaround needed at Stellantis.
What it all means
While both of these dividends will likely pop up on any screener looking for high-dividend yields, not all dividends are created equal. Ford has a clear path forward with profitability and cash flow as well as a thriving higher margin business in Ford Pro. Meanwhile, Stellantis is having profitability concerns and newly appointed CEO Filosa has many problems to fix. Ford is the dividend you want here, and it's hardly even comparable.

1 Dividend Stock Yielding Over 5% to Buy and 1 to Avoid

On the one hand, the world is driving toward mass-adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) as they slowly but surely take over global roads. On the other hand, the U.S. is grappling with whipsaw effects from slower-than-anticipated adoption, the loss of the $7,500 federal tax credit for EV purchases, implementation of tariffs on import vehicles and auto parts, and the rollback of emissions and other environmental standards.
If you're an auto investor who doesn't look fondly upon those developments, just wait a few minutes and it'll probably change, for better or worse. Here's the latest issue facing investors and the EV industry.

Profit-eroding incentives
With the federal $7,500 tax credit ending with the month of September, automakers trying to move EV inventory are digging into their own pockets to drive demand. General Motors (NYSE: GM) and Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) had previously found an intriguing loophole to use their finance arms to place down payments on EVs with intentions to pass that along to the consumer later. But both quickly ended those programs after pressure from politicians claimed the workarounds were "nefarious." Now the two Detroit auto icons are offering competitive lease payments and other costly incentives to make EV purchases compelling.
Hyundai Motor decided to push a $7,500 cash incentive on its 2025 Ioniq 5 for October, while also cutting the small crossover's price by nearly $10,000 for 2026. Similarly, Ford and GM's crosstown rival, Stellantis, began offering generous incentives to offset the loss of the federal tax credit immediately following its end. Those are just a handful of examples of how incentives are on the rise, but let's dig a little deeper as the issue spans the industry.
EV incentives peaked in July at 16% of average transaction prices (ATPs), according to Stephanie Valdez Streaty, Cox Automotive's director of industry insights, and at $8,900 during September the incentives remained above 15% of ATPs. That's more than twice the level for overall U.S. light vehicles that reached 7.4% in September, and still significantly above pre-pandemic levels that were typically around 10% of ATPs.
Unfortunately for automakers and investors alike, these profit-eroding incentives are a necessary evil due to the price gap between combustion engine vehicles and EVs. The average price for a new U.S. light vehicle was $47,962 in March 2025, according to Kelley Blue Book data cited by Experian, which remains near record highs. Meanwhile, the ATP for an EV in September reached $58,124, according to data from Cox.
What's the solution?
For automakers and investors, reducing these profit-killing incentives is important, and the arrival of truly affordable models is imperative. On that front, there's a bit of good news. One example is none other than General Motors' unveiling of the new Chevrolet Bolt.
The Chevy Bolt was released for the 2017 model year and was the automaker's first legitimate attempt at a modern EV. It was lauded as a great car in an ideal size and segment at a compelling price -- but due to an extended recall GM retired the vehicle in 2023 despite the Bolt posting its best sales year.
Now the Chevrolet Bolt is coming back in the early months of 2026 for round two.
The look and design of the two Bolts are very similar, especially viewing the exterior. The new Bolt offers about the same horsepower and will charge about three times faster than the previous generation. But the real kicker, especially for investors, is the price tag -- it ranges from $28,995 for the LT trim up to $32,000 for an RS trim, with an LT trim package between the two at $29,990. If you're keeping track, that makes the upcoming Bolt the cheapest EV announced across the U.S. market. The only problem is that currently the upcoming Bolt is allegedly only available for a limited time.
What it all means
While GM is preparing to launch the new Bolt at a compelling price point, the ever-changing EV industry dynamics aren't as pleasant for other automakers. That's true even for EV juggernaut Tesla, which has recently launched "Standard" and more affordable trims of its popular Model 3 and Model Y.
However, Tesla's strategy wasn't to start from the ground up for a truly compelling new affordable EV. Rather, the automaker opted to slash features and pinch pennies. All in all, Tesla was able to drop the Model Y Standard price down to $39,990 without shipping, about $5,000 less than the previous base price, and the Model 3 Standard down to $38,630, roughly $5,500 in savings. The problem is that due to the removal of features, the value proposition may not be compelling, and the lower-priced models could end up cannibalizing sales of more profitable trims and eroding margins themselves.
Further, for investors of pure-play EV makers such as Rivian and Lucid, the pain will be more drastic. These EV makers don't have a line of combustion engine vehicles to fall back on while the markets work through all the EV industry changes, policy rollbacks, and incentive spend.
The solution is as it's always been: produce a compelling EV at a comparable price to combustion engine counterparts. But the industry simply isn't quite there yet. Long-term investors would be wise to prepare for a few bumpy quarters and more hefty EV losses while incentives and high costs take a toll. The future is bright, but patience is required.

For decades, humans have imagined zooming through the sky in flying vehicles to whisk you away to wherever you need to go. That idea has yet to take off, but with modern technology, flying taxis are going from an idea of science fiction to a reality -- and it could be coming to a city near you soon.
Archer Aviation (NYSE: ACHR) is one of the pioneers of flying vehicles, and is one of the best-positioned companies to lead the charge in the budding economy. The company has made some serious headway, and regulators have also made progress in defining rules and regulations for this emerging form of travel. However, Archer Aviation is still a young company and has work to do before flying taxis are mainstream.
Here's what you should know if you're thinking about scooping up shares in the company today.
Archer aims to reimagine urban travel
Archer Aviation is at the forefront of a transportation revolution with its groundbreaking electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft (eVTOL) technology. The company looks to reimagine urban travel with its Midnight aircraft, designed for vertical take-off, landing, and hovering like a helicopter. Unlike traditional helicopters, eVTOLs use electric motors, delivering a more efficient, quieter, and eco-friendly mode of travel that perfectly suits bustling city life.
Earlier this year, Archer reached a critical milestone, executing a successful transition flight of the Midnight. The aircraft soared vertically before racing forward, reaching speeds of over 100 miles per hour, effortlessly shifting from hover to wing-borne flight, and returning to a smooth vertical landing.
By early September, Archer had completed an impressive 402 test flights and had made significant strides toward achieving its Type Certification. This crucial certification will signify that the Midnight meets rigorous safety standards, paving the way for commercial flights.
Archer anticipates completing the Type Certification by late 2025, followed by production certification, which will allow it to manufacture at scale.
The FAA is clearing the way for air taxis
Last month, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) unveiled its final Special Federal Aviation Regulation (SFAR) tailored for powered-lift pilot certification and operations. This regulation opens the door for the commercialization of advanced air mobility (AAM) travel.
With training and pilot certification protocols now put in place, the FAA is setting the stage for a safe and efficient operational environment for these innovative aircraft. Analysts at Canaccord viewed the decision to provide final regulations before the election as broadly positive for the air taxi industry.
What's next for Archer Aviation?
Archer recently inked a memorandum of understanding with Southwest Airlines, aiming to develop operational plans for electric car taxi networks at California airports. As part of this, it plans for a Los Angeles air mobility network, with an anticipated launch by 2026.
But that's just the beginning -- plans are in motion to electrify key locations in the New York City metropolitan area, Northern California, and South Florida. Looking globally, Archer is setting its sights on the United Arab Emirates, where it hopes to commence operations as early as 2025 and in India by 2026.
The company has already demonstrated impressive momentum, with an order book of 1,141 aircraft with significant pre-delivery payments at the end of the second quarter. Leading the charge, the United Arab Emirates has placed 475 orders, followed by 300 from the U.S. and 200 from India.
On Nov. 7, Archer inked a deal with Soracle, a joint venture of Japan Airlines and Sumitomo Corporation, to bring AAM services to Japan. As part of the agreement, Soracle has the right to order up to 100 aircraft, pushing its indicative order book over $6 billion.
So, is the stock a buy?
Archer Aviation is an exciting company that is developing an entirely new form of urban transportation. The upside potential is massive, with Morgan Stanley projecting that the urban air mobility market could reach $1 trillion by 2040.
The company is still in the early stages of its growth story, pre-revenue and pre-commercial operations, and there remains significant execution risk. For example, any hiccups in testing or manufacturing its aircraft could affect its timeline, push back deliveries, delay revenue generation, and potentially increase costs.
For this reason, Archer Aviation stock is ideal for investors with a high tolerance for risk and a long-term investing horizon. The stock remains story-driven for now, as commercialization and cash-flow-positive operations are still years away. Is Archer Aviation Stock a Buy?

General Motors (NYSE: GM) has come a long way over the past two decades after the company was essentially brought to its knees during the financial crisis of 2008 and the Great Recession that followed. In 2024 the Detroit automaker achieved record adjusted pre-tax profits of nearly $15 billion, a hefty 21% improvement from the prior year, but its stock price has remained sluggish. October brings a bit of good news for investors, and here are two reasons why the automaker could be a buy right now.
1. A reversal in China
"I think you have to see the D3 exit China as soon as they possibly can," Bank of America auto analyst John Murphy said a little over a year ago during the "Car Wars" report. He continued, "China is no longer core to GM, Ford or Stellantis."

That quote from Murphy was the brutal truth reflecting a substantial change in China's market potential. Remember that years ago General Motors, along with other foreign automakers such as Ford Motor Company and Volkswagen, enjoyed massive success in the Chinese market, with GM at one point generating billions in profit and selling more cars in China than in America -- but that success quickly reversed. Foreign autos suffered great financial and market share losses as the market quickly turned to electric vehicles where China's domestic brands began to thrive and dominate.
Despite the dire warning and suggestion from Murphy and other analysts, General Motors has stayed in the Chinese market to fight for its portion of the pie -- and October brings good news.
General Motors' sales in China surged 10% higher during the third quarter, which marks the third consecutive quarter of growth and a fundamental change in its business. Recall that the Detroit automaker took a hefty near $5 billion charge to restructure its business in China to remain on pace to profitability in the brutally competitive overseas market for 2025.
More specifically, GM China delivered roughly 470,000 vehicles during the third quarter, which was a much welcomed reversal from the company losing roughly half of its sales volume in less than a decade's time. It wasn't a one-quarter wonder with GM China's sales volume growing a similar 9.7% through the first nine months of the year, up to roughly 1.4 million vehicles. That's a step forward after the company posted sales of only 1.8 million in China during 2024, a fraction of its record high 4 million during 2017.
2. Returning value to shareholders
One thing that General Motors identified as an opportunity was its shares trading at such a cheap valuation. In fact, while General Motors has traded in the single digits for price-to-earnings ratio, it's even trailed its crosstown rival's valuation despite arguably far outperforming Ford.
The opportunity to begin repurchasing its stock in earnest was too tantalizing to pass up. Since 2023 General Motors has announced $16 billion in share buyback programs that have led to the retiring of more than 400,000 shares outstanding. General Motors even increased its quarterly dividend by 25% in February at the same time it announced its most recent $6 billion buyback program with $2 billion completed during that quarter.
The result has had the desired impact. In the chart below, you can see the massive reduction in shares outstanding while the stock price simultaneously rose.
Ford is often lauded for its lucrative dividend, and rightly so, as it sits at a robust 5.2% forward dividend yield compared to General Motors' more modest 1% dividend yield. However, that's only part of the equation for returning value to shareholders. Looking at total yield, which includes the dividend as well as the impact of share buybacks, GM's total yield soars to 15.6% while Ford's climbs to about 6.9%. GM returns far more value to shareholders than it gets credit for.
What it all means
October looks like an opportunity for long-term investors who are willing to zig while others zag to scoop up shares of a top automotive stock before the market appreciates the progress the company has made financially, operationally, and in returning value to shareholders through significant share repurchases.
The automotive market is competitive, capital-intensive, and cyclical, and it can lead to rough patches of ups and downs for the stock price. That said, General Motors is well positioned to outperform its competitors as well as return value to shareholders.

2 Reasons to Buy this Top Overlooked Stock in October

(RTTNews) - Stellantis (STLA) announced a $13 billion investment over the next four years aimed at strengthening its presence in the United States and expanding its domestic manufacturing footprint. This marks the largest investment in the company's 100-year history in the U.S. and is set to support the launch of five new vehicles across its brand portfolio, the production of a new four-cylinder engine, and the creation of over 5,000 jobs across key states including Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana.
The initiative will significantly boost Stellantis' U.S. operations, increasing annual finished vehicle production by 50% compared to current levels. In addition to the new vehicle launches, the company plans to refresh 19 existing products across all U.S. assembly plants and introduce updated powertrains through 2029. The $13 billion will cover research and development, supplier costs, and manufacturing upgrades necessary to execute Stellantis' full product strategy.
In Illinois, Stellantis will invest more than $600 million to reopen the Belvidere Assembly Plant, focusing on expanded production of the Jeep® Cherokee and Jeep Compass. Production is expected to begin in 2027, with the move anticipated to generate approximately 3,300 new jobs.
Ohio will see nearly $400 million in investment as Stellantis relocates the assembly of an all-new midsize truck—originally slated for Belvidere—to the Toledo Assembly Complex. This truck will join the Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Gladiator lineup, with production expected to launch in 2028 and create over 900 jobs. The company also plans to continue enhancing its Toledo operations with new technologies and product improvements, including critical components at the Toledo Machining Plant.
In Michigan, Stellantis will invest nearly $100 million to retool the Warren Truck Assembly Plant for the production of a new range-extended electric vehicle and internal combustion engine large SUV, beginning in 2028. This move is expected to add more than 900 jobs to the facility, which currently produces the Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer. Additionally, $130 million will be allocated to upgrade the Detroit Assembly Complex - Jefferson for the next-generation Dodge Durango, with production slated for 2029.
Indiana will benefit from more than $100 million in investments across Stellantis' Kokomo facilities to support the production of the new GMET4 EVO four-cylinder engine, beginning in 2026. This strategic powertrain initiative is expected to create over 100 new jobs and solidify the U.S. as the manufacturing base for this engine.
Stellantis' expansive U.S. footprint currently includes 34 manufacturing facilities, parts distribution centers, and research and development locations across 14 states. These operations support more than 48,000 employees, 2,600 dealers, and nearly 2,300 suppliers, contributing to thousands of communities nationwide.

Stellantis Unveils $13 Bln Investment To Expand U.S. Operations

Ford Motor Company F has decided to withdraw a program that would have enabled dealers to pass along a $7,500 tax credit on EV leases after the federal subsidy expired on Sept. 30, 2025, per Reuters.
Per a Ford spokesperson, the company will no longer claim the EV tax credit but will continue offering competitive lease rates currently available in the market. This move mirrors a similar decision made by General Motors Company GM a day earlier. While automakers such as Hyundai and Stellantis N.V. STLA have been providing direct cash incentives to offset the loss of the federal credit, Ford and General Motors have chosen a different path.
Their financing divisions had planned to purchase EVs from dealer inventories, apply for the $7,500 tax credit themselves and then pass those savings to customers through more attractive lease terms. For customers interested in buying rather than leasing an EV, Ford Credit continues to provide 0% financing for up to 72 months, along with other promotional offers.
Year to date, Ford's shares have risen 15.3%, outperforming the industry and sector. The stock also outperformed the company’s rivals, General Motors and Stellantis.

Rising Sales, Strength in Ford Pro Unit Act as a Tailwind
Ford sold 545,522 vehicles in the United States in the third quarter of 2025, up 8.2% year over year, extending its streak to seven straight months of sales growth. Sales of pickups and vans reached 313,654 units, up 7.4% from last year. Electrified vehicles, which include hybrids, plug-ins and all-electrics, totaled 85,789 units, up 19.8% year over year, accounting for 15.7% of total sales.
Ford will begin shipping the Explorer Tremor and F-150 Lobo in the fourth quarter. The Explorer SUV has long been a favorite among U.S. consumers and drivers worldwide, paving the way for road-oriented SUVs when such vehicles were still uncommon. Over the years, it has remained one of the top models in its segment, and given its long production run, countless Explorers are still in use today. Per Ford Authority, during the second quarter of 2025, the Explorer ranked among the most common vehicles on American roads.

Tariffs & Losses in Model e Unit to Mar Ford’s Growth
Ford has flagged an increase in its expected tariff impact for the year. In the second quarter alone, Ford incurred $800 million in tariff-related costs. It now expects a net $2 billion tariff hit for full-year 2025, up from the $1.5 billion projected previously. Initially, Ford had guided a $2.5 billion gross tariff impact, with plans to offset $1 billion through mitigation efforts. Now, it has raised its gross tariff cost forecast to $3 billion, but still expects to offset $1 billion.
The company's Model e segment continues to struggle amid stiff competition, pricing pressure and significant costs associated with new-generation EV development. After having incurred losses of $4.7 billion in its EV business in 2023, Ford’s loss from Model e widened to $5.07 billion in 2024, exacerbated by ongoing pricing pressure and increased investments in next-generation EVs. The company is expected to incur huge losses in its EV business this year as well.
Valuation & Broker Ratings for F Stock
From a valuation perspective, Ford appears undervalued. Based on its price/sales ratio, the company is trading at a forward sales multiple of 0.28, way lower than the industry’s five-year average.

SoundHound is still growing like a weed
SoundHound AI's namesake app identifies songs from a few seconds of recorded audio or a few hummed bars. But it generates most of its revenue from Houndify, a developer platform that enables companies to produce their own AI-powered voice recognition services. Houndify's top customers include automakers such as Stellantis, quick-service restaurants like Chipotle, and credit card giants like Mastercard. It's a popular option for companies that don't want to share their data with big tech companies.
SoundHound's revenue rose 47% in 2023, 85% in 2024, and 187% year over year in the first half of 2025. That acceleration was impressive, but it was partly driven by its acquisitions of the AI restaurant services provider SYNQ3, the online food ordering platform Allset, and the conversational AI company Amelia.
Its integration of those acquisitions -- along with a higher mix of lower-margin restaurant service revenues, rising cloud infrastructure costs, and high onboarding expenses for its new customers -- reduced its adjusted gross margin from 76.2% in 2023 to 55.3% in the first half of 2025. It's also still unprofitable under generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). So while SoundHound is growing, it hasn't proven that its business model is sustainable yet.
Nevertheless, the bulls expect its gross margins to rise again as economies of scale kick in, its pricing power improves, and it expands its higher-margin software licensing and royalties segment.
The broader buying frenzy in AI stocks could also drive its shares higher. Analysts expect its revenue to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of nearly 47% to $267 million from 2024 to 2027. But with a market cap of $7.4 billion, it's already valued at 28 times its projected sales for 2027. That bubbly valuation could set it up for a steep pullback.
Brighter days could be ahead for BigBear.ai
BigBear.ai's three AI modules -- Observe, Orient, and Dominate -- can ingest data, identify trends, and predict future outcomes, respectively. These modules are plugged into edge networks, which intercept the data that flows between origin servers and end users. It also shares that data with bigger data mining companies like Palantir.
Its revenue stayed nearly flat in 2023 and only grew 2% in 2024. It struggled with the bankruptcy of its top customer Virgin Orbit, competition from similar companies, and tough macro headwinds for enterprise software companies. Nevertheless, its gross margin still expanded 240 basis points to 28.6% in 2024 as it gradually stabilized its business.
Under Mandy Long, who took the helm as its CEO in late 2022, BigBear.ai acquired the AI vision firm Pangiam, which developed biometric identity tools for the U.S. government, to diversify its business and grow its revenues. Pangiam's CEO Kevin McAleenan, who previously served as the Acting Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) during the first Trump administration, succeeded Long as BigBear.ai's new CEO in early 2025 and focused on gaining more government contracts.
Under McAleenan, BigBear.ai's backlog swelled as it secured new digital ID and biometrics initiatives for the DHS, a modernization project for the U.S. military's Orion Decision Support Platform (DSP), and other supply chain projects. But in the first half of 2025, its revenue still dropped 8% year over year as it dealt with near-term disruptions to its government contracts, and its gross margin shrank 170 basis points to 23.1%. For the full year, analysts expect its revenue to decline 16%.
That near-term outlook seems dim, but analysts expect its revenue to rise 14% in 2026 and 6% to $162 million in 2027 as it converts its backlog into actual revenues. However, it's still expected to stay unprofitable on a GAAP basis. With a market cap of $2.8 billion, it already trades at 17 times its 2027 sales.
The better buy: SoundHound AI
I wouldn't rush to buy either of these stocks right now, since there's a bit too much AI-driven hype baked into their current valuations. But if I had to pick one over the other, I'd buy SoundHound, because it's growing faster, faces fewer direct competitors, and has healthier gross margins. The market's demand for AI-powered voice recognition services should also continue climbing over the next few years as more companies gradually reduce their dependence on human employees.

Welcome to the show! Ferrari (NYSE: RACE) gave investors a sneak peek at its upcoming first full-electric model last week, with an unveiling laser light show that might rival Las Vegas' Sphere. Despite the light show and base-thumping heavy music, the unveiling failed to electrify investors as the stock promptly plunged nearly 16% on Thursday -- its largest one-day drop since its IPO in 2015.

Rock and a hard place
Ferrari finds itself in an interesting and challenging position, currently. On one hand, Ferrari due to its intangible assets, brand moat, pricing power, and loyal consumer base, could likely churn out a full-electric supercar that maintains its impressive ultra-luxury-like margins -- unlike traditional automakers that are losing money on electric vehicles (EVs) hand over fist.
On the other hand, Ferrari's competitors are pushing back their own full-electric supercars due to lack of demand. While Ferrari is preparing to unleash its Elettrica onto a road filled with uncertainty, its competitors are pulling back. Ferrari rival Lamborghini said it would delay the launch of its first full-electric model to 2029, instead of 2028, while Porsche cut back its plans for battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) due to soft sales of its full-electric Macan and Taycan. Stellantis subsidiary Maserati canceled plans for its BEV version of its MC20 sports car.
Ferrari zigging while its competitors zag is a significant bet on the near-term future of not only EVs, but the direction of its supercar lineup. Ferrari plans to invest a significant 4.7 billion euros between 2026 and 2030 for electrification and the supercar maker expects BEVs to account for one-fifth of its sales by the end of this decade. Unbeknownst to many investors is that Ferrari is already somewhat electrified as roughly half of its vehicle shipments are hybrids.
"Luxury EVs are still a young and immature category," says Brian Lum, an investment manager at Baillie Gifford, according to Barron's. "It's important to build that next generation of Ferraristi, and electrification should help them to do that."
It's also worth noting that while Ferrari's brand has seemingly had impenetrable armor over the past decades, part of that is driven by the company continually innovating and producing state-of-the-art combustion engine supercars. If Ferrari's first full EV doesn't live up to performance heritage, or its niche consumers don't buy into the idea of EVs, and it flops commercially, it could be the first chink in that brand armor perhaps ever.
What's the problem?
The driving force behind Ferrari's rare share price plunge wasn't vehicle centric. In fact, so far the Elettrica is very Ferrari-like, and we'll get more details and design clues over time. With 1,000 horsepower, it offers power output that rivals its combustion engine supercars, and the same goes for its top speed of more than 192 miles per hour. After a single charge, its range checks the necessary box of over 300 miles by an extra 29 miles, helping reduce consumer range anxiety.
The problem was that Ferrari also unveiled its financial projections for the rest of this decade, and they checked in lower than analysts expected. While Ferrari slightly raised its out look for 2025, now expecting a profit of 8.80 euros per share on revenue of 7.1 billion euros, its long-term guidance of 2030 adjusted earnings of 11.50 euros per share on revenue of 9 billion euros fell short of the 9.9 billion euros in revenue analysts expected, per FactSet.
While Ferrari's full-EV (partial) unveiling was entirely overshadowed by slight long-term weakness, investors would be very wise to follow how the Elettrica's launch goes in late 2026 -- because a lot of the future hinges on its EV lineup striking a similar chord with its core enthusiasts as its combustion engine supercars have.
Ferrari remains an absolute top stock pick by nearly any measure, with margins the automotive industry dreams of, competitive advantages that aren't easily replicable, and a brand image that stands in an arena by itself. Its near 16% drop was just a brief and small buying opportunity, and investors should be optimistic about its future despite analysts being slightly disappointed.

What Sent This High-Flying Ultra-Luxury Giant's Stock 16% Lower Thursday?

Electric vehicle sales in the U.S. were juiced last month, as it was people's last chance to benefit from the federal EV tax credit.

None of this may have much effect on the surprisingly resilient stock price.
Back in April, the unthinkable happened.
Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) -- the world's largest car company by market cap, the biggest global manufacturer of electric vehicles (EVs), and the maker of the best-selling automobile on Earth in 2023 and 2024 -- posted a year-over-year quarterly delivery decline. Then in July, it happened again.

So investors were bracing for another quarter of shrinking sales when Tesla released its Q3 delivery numbers this month, but instead, the automaker blew expectations out of the water, reporting record-high deliveries of 497,099 vehicles, up 7.4% over the prior year.
So, do these record sales numbers mark a turning point for Tesla and its controversial CEO, Elon Musk? Let's not read too much into this. Here's what's really going on.
Beating the clock
Although Tesla is a global brand, the U.S. is its largest market, responsible for about 40% of its sales in 2024. And there was a huge incentive to buy a Tesla in the U.S. in the third quarter: The "Big Beautiful Bill" eliminated the $7,500 electric vehicle tax credit as of October. That likely pulled a lot of purchases forward from the fourth quarter into the third quarter. After all, if you know you want to buy a Tesla this year, why would you give up a huge discount by waiting until October, November, or December?
This explanation for the surge in Tesla's Q3 deliveries tracks with data from other U.S. automakers. General Motors (NYSE: GM), Ford (NYSE: F), and Stellantis (NYSE: STLA) all reported higher sales in the third quarter, largely driven by huge increases in electric vehicle sales. Ford, for example, reported an 8.2% increase in overall vehicle sales, but a much sharper increase of 19.8% in electric vehicle sales (including hybrids), led by a 39.7% increase in F-150 Lightning sales and a jaw-dropping 50.7% increase in Mustang Mach-E sales. At GM, the results were even stronger, with total Q3 vehicle sales up 8% year-over-year, but EV sales surging by 107%.
The record-breaking EV sales numbers from Tesla's rivals put its comparatively puny 7.4% sales increase in perspective.
Sales in Europe look shaky
Tesla's U.S. sales probably surged more than 7.4% in Q3, but were offset by sales declines in its other major markets like China (which accounted for about 30% of 2024 sales) and Europe (about 20% of 2024 sales). While Tesla doesn't release a breakdown of its sales by country, several European markets keep track of new Tesla registrations, which are considered a proxy for its new vehicle sales.
And, boy, do those numbers look bleak. Even though September sales were up 20.5% year over year in Denmark, for example, and 14.7% in Norway, those countries combined represented only about 2% of all Tesla sales worldwide in 2024. Elsewhere, even the bright spots weren't so bright: In September, Tesla sales rose 3.4% in Spain (also 0.9% of 2024 sales), 2.7% in France (2% of 2024 sales), and were flat in the U.K. (which at 3% of 2024 sales is Tesla's biggest European market).
Perhaps Sweden gives us the clearest picture of Tesla's European market woes, though. It only sold 210 vehicles in Sweden in August. In response, the company rolled out new sales incentives for September, including zero-interest financing and a trade-in bonus of about $4,200 per vehicle. Swedish September sales then "surged" by 721% month over month to about 1,700 vehicles, but that was still a year-over-year drop of 65% (!) compared with the 4,792 vehicles it sold in September 2024.
Brace yourself for... not much
These numbers show that Tesla's business hasn't turned a corner. If anything, it's primed for a steeper-than-ever sales decline in the fourth quarter. The federal $7,500 tax credit is no longer supporting U.S. sales, European sales are collapsing despite huge sales incentives, and the company will face a tough comparison to Q4 2024, which represented a then-record for Tesla deliveries.
Even so, the slumping sales seem unlikely to have a major effect on Tesla's stock price. The shares have declined by only single-digit percentages since the Q3 numbers came out, and the stock is still up by more than 6% year-to-date:
If recent sales declines and a bleak outlook for future sales haven't dealt major damage to Tesla's lofty share price, it's unlikely that further sales declines will have any major impact on its valuation, which is now more tied to the company's vision for autonomous Robotaxis and humanoid robots than to its electric vehicle sales.

A bold vision taking shape
Archer's flagship aircraft, called Midnight, is designed to carry four passengers and a pilot over short urban routes. The aircraft promises quieter flights, lower emissions, and faster trips compared to ground travel. Archer hopes to eventually operate these air taxis in partnership with airlines and ridesharing platforms, creating an entirely new transportation network.
The company is not working alone. United Airlines has placed a conditional order for up to 200 of Archer's aircraft. Stellantis, the global automaker, has pledged manufacturing support. Archer has also secured contracts with the U.S. Department of Defense to explore eVTOL applications for military use. These partnerships provide credibility and could help Archer scale once it secures certification.
Management expects its first commercial flights to launch in 2026, pending approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). If successful, Archer could tap into a market that analysts believe could reach trillions of dollars within the next few decades.
Why it's worth watching
Archer continues to build momentum, even without commercial sales. In its latest shareholder update, management highlighted progress on its Covington, Georgia, factory -- a key step toward scaling production. The company is producing six Midnight aircraft, three of which are in the final assembly stage. It also advanced through FAA certification stages, inching closer to a commercial green light.
Internationally, Archer delivered its first Midnight aircraft to the United Arab Emirates, where it has begun flight testing in Abu Dhabi. The company expects to collect initial payments later this year, providing it with an opportunity to demonstrate its aircraft in a live urban environment.
The macro backdrop also works in Archer's favor. Cities worldwide are struggling with traffic congestion, and governments are promoting greener transportation options. eVTOL aircraft offer solutions on both fronts. That's why Archer keeps appearing on investor watchlists and in headlines -- it represents a bold bet on the next wave of mobility.
Why not in your portfolio (yet)
While the story is exciting, investors should not overlook the risks. Three stand out in particular.
1. Ongoing cash burn could lead to future shareholder dilution
Archer still generates zero commercial revenue. Yet, operating expenses continue to rise in the latest quarter, running at an annualized rate of more than $700 million. While it has just raised $850 million, bringing the total cash and cash equivalents on its balance sheet to $1.7 billion, it won't be long before the company will need fresh funding, especially given its high cash burn rate. That likely means new debt or equity, either of which could dilute shareholders' interests.
2. Regulatory and execution challenges
FAA certification remains the most significant hurdle Archer must overcome. The regulator has limited experience with eVTOL aircraft, which may lead to delays. Even if approval comes by 2026 -- a timeline the company is aiming to achieve -- ramping from prototypes to large-scale production adds another layer of risk. History shows many aerospace programs stumble at this stage due to supply chain problems, cost overruns, or quality issues.
3. Intense competition
Archer is far from alone. Joby Aviation is a key competitor and is further along in the certification process. Lilium and several aerospace giants are also pursuing the market, making this industry increasingly crowded. If Archer fails to keep pace, it risks becoming one of many also-rans in an industry that eventually has just a few survivors.
What does it mean for investors?
Archer Aviation is the type of stock that captures imaginations. The vision of flying taxis may feel futuristic, yet the company has lined up credible partners that validate its approach.
But being early is not the same as being right. Archer still lacks revenue, faces heavy cash burn, and must clear major regulatory and operational hurdles. Until the company proves it can execute on certification and move toward commercialization, the stock remains a more speculative bet than a business investment.
For now, Archer Aviation looks better on a watchlist than in a portfolio. If the company hits its milestones over the next few years, that stance could change.
