UBS Group AG UBS reported a first-quarter 2026 net profit attributable to shareholders of $3.04 billion compared with $1.69 billion in the prior-year quarter.
Results were driven by the strong performances of the Global Wealth Management, Asset Management and Investment Bank divisions. An increase in total assets was also encouraging. However, higher operating expenses acted as a headwind.

The company’s first-quarter total revenues increased 13.4% year over year to $14.24 billion.
Operating expenses rose slightly year over year to $10.33 billion.
UBS Group reported total credit loss expenses of $70 million, which declined 30% from the year-ago quarter.

UBS's Capital Position
Total assets rose 4.3% from the previous quarter’s end to $1.69 trillion.
UBS’s return on Common Equity Tier 1 (CET1) capital was 16.8% as of March 31, 2026, compared with 9.6% as of March 31, 2025.
The risk-weighted assets rose 3.5% year over year to $500.3 billion.
The CET1 capital rose 6% year over year to $73.3 billion. As of March 31, 2026, UBS's invested assets were $6.9 trillion, up 11.8% year over year.
UBS Group’s Capital Distribution Update
In the first quarter of 2026, UBS repurchased $0.9 billion worth of shares and remains on track to complete $3 billion in share repurchases by the end of July 2026, with an aim to do more by the end of the year.
The extent of additional buybacks will depend on the company’s financial performance and outlook, as well as its ability to maintain a CET1 capital ratio of around 14% at year-end. Clarity on parliamentary deliberations regarding the treatment of foreign subsidiaries will also be a key factor.
UBS Progresses With Credit Suisse Integration Plan
With the completion of the Swiss client account migration in March 2026, UBS has finalized the global migration of former Credit Suisse client accounts onto its infrastructure, marking a key integration milestone.
This achievement signals the start of the final phase of integration, including the decommissioning of legacy IT infrastructure, which will be carried out over the remainder of the year. The company remains on track to substantially complete the integration by the end of 2026.
In the first quarter of 2026, UBS realized an additional $0.8 billion in gross cost savings. Cumulative gross cost savings reached $11.5 billion at the end of the quarter compared with the combined 2022 cost base of UBS and Credit Suisse.
The company continues to target approximately $13.5 billion in annualized exit rate gross cost savings by the end of 2026. Management expects cumulative integration-related expenses to be around $15 billion by the end of 2026, assuming constant foreign-exchange rates.
As of March 31, 2026, the Non-core and Legacy division has delivered a 67% reduction in risk-weighted assets (RWA) since the second quarter of 2023. UBS has achieved its target of reducing credit and market risk RWA to around $4 billion, in line with its year-end 2026 ambition.
Additionally, the company has achieved an 84% reduction in underlying operating expenses (excluding litigation) compared with the 2022 baseline.

UBS (UBS) Q1 Earnings and Revenues Beat Estimates

(RTTNews) - Swiss banking major UBS Group AG (UBS) reported Wednesday significantly higher profit in its first quarter with increased revenues in core franchises.
Looking ahead, the company said it expects second-quarter net interest income in both Global Wealth Management and Personal & Corporate Banking to be broadly flat sequentially.
The current backdrop reinforces the benefits of its balance sheet for all seasons, and are confident in delivering on 2026 financial targets, the firm added.
UBS said, "As we move through the second quarter, markets have remained broadly resilient, reflecting expectations that a durable diplomatic solution to the Middle East conflict is achievable. That said, while client activity remains healthy, risks are still elevated, and conditions could shift rapidly, which may impact client sentiment and activity levels."
Further, the firm said it is on track to buy back $3 billion in shares by the time of second quarter earnings report, with an aim to do more by year-end, subject to financial performance and outlook.
In the first quarter, net profit attributable to shareholders was $3.04 billion or $0.94 per share, higher than prior year's $1.69 billion or $0.51 per share.
Profit before tax surged 80 percent to $3.84 billion from $2.13 billion last year. Underlying profit before tax was $3.99 billion, up 54 percent year-over-year.
The company attributed the improved performance to continued revenue growth in core franchises and disciplined execution of gross cost-reduction plans.
Reported revenues outpaced reported costs by 13 percentage points in the quarter.
Revenues were $14.24 billion, up 13 percent from $12.56 billion a year ago. On an underlying basis, revenues increased 15 percent year-over-year to $13.64 billion, driven by an 18 percent increase in core franchises revenues.
Net interest income climbed 42 percent from last year to $2.32 billion. Net fee and commission income grew 14 percent to $7.73 billion.

Also that day, Manav Gupta, a UBS analyst, lifted the price target on Bloom Energy to $251 from $170, maintaining a buy rating.
On Wednesday, Baird raised its price target on Bloom Energy stock to $242 from $172, while keeping an outperform rating.

That will boost oil company profits, some of which they'll likely reinvest in drilling more wells this year.
Reopening the Strait of Hormuz won't happen quickly. According to a Pentagon estimate, it could take the U.S. military six months to clear sea mines laid by Iran to close that key waterway. It likely wouldn't be able to begin conducting those operations until the war ends.

Oil will remain higher for longer, boosting oil company profits
Most forecasters initially expected the war with Iran to be short. They also anticipated that once the two sides stopped fighting, the Strait of Hormuz would reopen to ships since Iran would no longer attack them. While Iran initially declared the Strait open following Israel's ceasefire with Lebanon -- a sticking point for Iran in its ceasefire with the U.S. and Israel -- it quickly changed course due to the U.S. Navy's blockade of Iran.
Every day the Strait remains closed, the global economy loses between 10 million and 15 million barrels of oil. Countries are currently covering the shortfall with emergency stockpiles. However, they won't last indefinitely.
Further, even if there were no mines in the Strait and it reopened today, it would take months to return to normal. That's due in part to the time it will take to restart oil production at wells shut-in due to the war, which could take several months.
All these catalysts point to the likelihood that oil prices will remain higher for longer. UBS now expects Brent oil, the global benchmark, to stay above $90 through the end of this year (it's currently over $100 a barrel). That's under the optimistic assumption that the two sides reach a peace deal soon that allows for at least a partial reopening of the Strait while the Navy clears mines.
Higher oil prices will boost oil company profitability. For example, every $1 a barrel increase in the price of Brent oil will boost ExxonMobil's (NYSE: XOM) annual earnings by about $700 million. Exxon assumed Brent would average $65 a barrel this year. With it likely to stay above $90, Exxon's upstream business could generate an additional $17.5 billion in earnings this year (though that's before factoring in the impact of production curtailments in the Middle East).
It's time to drill, baby, drill
Given the long-term impact of the Strait of Hormuz closure on oil supplies, the world will need to tap additional sources outside the region. North America is one of the only regions where oil companies can quickly drill new wells and bring incremental production online, thanks to the short cycle times required to complete unconventional wells (horizontally drilled and hydraulically fractured).
Given that, I expect U.S. oil companies to increase their capital budgets and drill more wells this year. We're already starting to see early signs of this happening. Leading oilfield services company Halliburton (NYSE: HAL) recently noted several signs of a recovery in drilling activity in North America, including that it's getting calls from customers seeking to complete more wells this year. That should lead to higher revenue and improved margins for the oilfield services company and its peers this year.
There's no short-term solution
The Strait of Hormuz won't fully reopen for a while, even if there is a peace deal. It could take months for the Navy to remove sea mines and for oil companies to restore production from shut-in wells. That suggests oil prices will remain high long after the war ends, boosting oil company profitability. They'll likely reinvest some of that windfall into drilling new wells in North American to help boost supplies, further enhancing their ability to capitalize on this year's higher pricing.
These catalysts make oil stocks look like compelling investments this year. Investors could capitalize on this opportunity by investing in an oil giant like Exxon, an oil field services leader such as Halliburton, or an oil ETF.

Axon is bringing AI capabilities to its industry-leading public safety products
Axon develops public safety technologies for law enforcement, enterprises, and government agencies. Its hardware portfolio includes conducted energy weapons (Tasers), body-worn cameras, and in-car cameras. Its software portfolio includes products for digital evidence management, records management, dispatch, and real-time operations.
Axon is the market leader in Tasers, body-worn cameras, and digital evidence management software, and the company is reinforcing its leadership position by developing adjacent artificial intelligence (AI) products.
In 2024, Axon introduced Draft One, generative AI software that automates report writing. It uses audio from body-worn cameras to draft high-quality narratives, thereby reducing how much time police officers spend on paperwork. Customers adopted Draft One faster than any software product in company history, according to management.
In 2025, the company introduced Axon Assistant, a generative AI product that lets users query evidence, reports, and agency data in natural language. It also supports real-time translation. Axon Assistant currently works with Axon's body cameras and digital evidence management system, but will eventually integrate with more products.
Axon has hardly scratched its $159 billion total addressable market
Axon reported strong fourth-quarter financial results that crushed estimates on the top and bottom lines. Revenue increased 39% to $797 million, driven by strong sales growth across its hardware and software businesses, and non-GAAP earnings increased 84% to $2.15 per diluted share.
Meanwhile, bookings (contracted sales not yet recognized) increased 43% to $14.4 billion, which hints at strong growth in the quarters ahead. Indeed, management expects revenue to increase at roughly 29% annually to reach $6 billion by 2028. Additionally, the company values its total addressable market at $159 billion, and sees a particularly large opportunity to win enterprise customers.
Wall Street estimates Axon's adjusted earnings will increase at 24% annually through 2027. That makes the current valuation of 59 times adjusted earnings look tolerable. Axon may not deliver triple digit returns in the next year, but I think patient investors should consider buying a small position today. Indeed, among 23 analysts that cover the company, the stock has a median target of $700 per share. That implies 72% upside from its current share price of $405.

Oil prices are moving higher today after Iran attacked and seized several ships in the Strait of Hormuz. This escalation came less than a day after President Trump announced an indefinite extension of the ceasefire agreement. Iran has yet to reopen the Strait of Hormuz due to the U.S. Navy blockade of Iranian-linked ships.
While President Trump is seeking a diplomatic end to the war, recent hostilities make a resumption of fighting an increasing possibility. If that happens, it could fuel a surge in oil stocks.

Heading higher again
Brent oil, the global benchmark price, jumped more than 3% by Wednesday afternoon to around $102 a barrel. Meanwhile, WTI, the primary U.S. oil price benchmark, was up over 4% to more than $93 a barrel. Crude prices moved higher despite the ceasefire extension after Iran reportedly fired upon three ships in the Strait of Hormuz and escorted two to the Iranian coast. This move comes after the U.S. Navy recently struck and seized an Iranian-linked cargo ship and boarded a sanctioned oil tanker.
Before the war, 20 million barrels of oil per day flowed through the Strait of Hormuz on tankers. That's now down to a trickle. While Saudi Arabia and the UAE have maxed out the capacity of their bypass pipelines, every day the Strait of Hormuz remains closed, the world loses between 10 million and 15 million barrels of oil. Additionally, 20% of global liquified natural gas (LNG) supplies remain choked off. The longer the Strait remains closed, the greater the long-term damage to the oil market and global economy. Many oil market analysts expect it could take months for ship traffic to return to normal after a peace deal, given the time needed to restart shut-in production, with some capacity unlikely to return to the market for years due to repairs to damaged facilities. As a result, UBS expects Brent crude to remain above $90 a barrel for the rest of the year, even if the two sides sign a peace deal soon.
Oil stocks could have a lot further to run
Oil prices are up more than 50% this year. They could go a lot higher if the war resumes and Iran attacks additional energy infrastructure and closes off another key chokepoint, such as Bab el-Mandeb.
Despite the surge in crude prices, oil stocks have had more modest gains. Shares of oil giants Chevron (NYSE: CVX) and ConocoPhillips (NYSE: COP) are up 22% and 31%, respectively, this year. These and other oil stocks could soar if the conflict with Iran reignites, given their low-cost operations.
Chevron couldn't have entered 2026 in a better position to capitalize on higher oil prices. The energy giant completed several major growth capital projects last year, positioning it to deliver higher production this year. It also closed its needle-moving acquisition of Hess and is executing a major cost-saving initiative. These catalysts have Chevron on track to generate an additional $12.5 billion in free cash flow this year at $70 oil. With crude oil likely to stay above $90 for the rest of this year, Chevron will produce an even bigger gusher of excess free cash. It will likely return much of this windfall to shareholders by repurchasing shares at the top-end of its $10 billion-$20 billion annual target range.
ConocoPhillips also entered this year in a strong position. It expected to produce an additional $1 billion of free cash flow in 2026 at $70 oil, driven solely by cost-savings initiatives. That number will now be much higher, with crude expected to be above $90. ConocoPhillips will also likely return much of this windfall to shareholders through share repurchases.
Increased risks that oil remains high
The ceasefire with Iran initially sparked optimism that the energy crisis would end with a reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. However, that hasn't happened as Iran continues to attack ships trying to move through that waterway. With no end in sight, there's an increased likelihood that the war could reignite and drive oil prices higher. Meanwhile, even if there's a peace deal, oil prices might not head much lower this year, suggesting that oil stocks could have plenty of fuel to continue their surge.

What is Chainlink?
Chainlink is a decentralized "oracle" network that connects blockchains to real-world data such as weather reports, stock prices, sports scores, and shipping data. Without these oracle networks, developer-oriented blockchains like Ethereum (CRYPTO: ETH) would be closed systems that couldn't feed that data to their decentralized apps via smart contracts.
Chainlink's independent node operators fetch and deliver that data to smart contracts, and they're paid in LINK tokens. Those operators can stake (lock up) those earnings as collateral to earn interest-like rewards. But if they intentionally feed false data into Chainlink's network, those holdings can be confiscated and their reputation scores reduced. Node operators with lower reputation scores are less likely to receive new requests.
Chainlink pre-mined LINK's entire supply of one billion tokens before its ICO, so its scarcity can't value it. Instead, it's valued by the growth of its network of independent node operators and the demand for more real-time, real-world data across blockchain platforms.
Why could LINK have more upside potential?
In the past, Chainlink was primarily seen as a support network for niche decentralized apps on Ethereum and other blockchains. But over the past year, Chainlink has partnered with 24 major financial firms -- including UBS, the securities settlement house Euroclear, and the SWIFT network for interbank transfers -- to modernize their aging, fragmented systems.
Those financial institutions are using Chainlink to access secure market data, accelerate interbank transfers, automate transactions, and even tokenize real-world assets. In other words, Chainlink is becoming a trusted data and connectivity layer between traditional finance systems and blockchain networks -- and that expansion could make LINK tokens much more valuable.
LINK's token only has a market cap of $6.8 billion and attracts far less attention than Bitcoin, Ether, and XRP, but it might have more millionaire-making potential than those leading cryptocurrencies. It serves a clear purpose, and it's tethered to the long-term growth of the centralized and decentralized finance markets.

The S&P 500 tends to outperform gold during periods of economic strength, and AI should drive economic growth by increasing productivity and efficiency.
Earlier this month, Goldman Sachs strategists updated their forward estimates for different asset classes. The S&P 500 (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC) is forecast to reach 7,600 by April 2027, implying 7% upside from its current level of 7,126. But gold is forecast to hit $5,445 per ounce, implying 13% upside from its current price of $4,830.

The SPDR Gold Shares ETF provides convenient exposure to a safe-haven asset
The SPDR Gold Shares ETF is an exchange-traded fund run by State Street. It tracks the price of gold by dividing physical bullion held in vaults into shares. For investors, the benefit is twofold: (1) The fund is more liquid than gold bars because it can be bought and sold in seconds, and (2) the fund is more convenient because it does require physical storage space.
Gold is an attractive way to diversify a portfolio because its price has historically shown little correlation with stocks and bonds. In particular, gold is attractive during periods of geopolitical tension and macroeconomic distress (or other situations that could cause stocks and bonds to drop) because its value is not based on financial results or the promise of future interest payments.
According to State Street, "Gold has demonstrated a low and negative correlation to many financial asset indexes over time and has a track record of providing a hedge during periods of large market drawdowns, systemic risk, and geopolitical volatility."
Gold prices have dropped more sharply than the S&P 500 in 2026
Interestingly, gold has not behaved like a safe-haven asset this year. While the S&P 500 dropped 9% from its high amid tensions created by the Iran conflict and rising oil prices, gold prices plummeted 19% as investors took profits after its historic run in previous months. That is abnormal because gold typically serves as a hedge against geopolitical instability.
Why did that happen? Gold was vulnerable to a drawdown because its price had doubled between January 2025 and March 2026 because of economic uncertainty created by President Trump's tariffs and his attacks on the Federal Reserve. So while geopolitical instability has historically been a catalyst for price appreciation, gold actually fell more sharply than stocks this time.
Nevertheless, Goldman Sachs strategists are not alone in thinking gold prices will increase substantially in the coming months. UBS recently raised its 2026 target to $6,200 per ounce and J.P. Morgan raised its 2026 target to $6,300 per ounce, implying upside of 28% and 30%, respectively, from the current price of $4,830.
The S&P 500 is still an attractive investment option as the AI boom unfolds
The Vanguard S&P 500 ETF measures the performance of the S&P 500, an index comprising 500 large U.S. companies that form the core of the American economy, which is objectively the largest and subjectively the most innovative economy in the world.
I say that because 15 of the 20 most valuable technology stocks in the world are U.S.-based companies, which means the American economy is especially well positioned to benefit from the artificial intelligence revolution. The Vanguard S&P 500 ETF offers heavy exposure to those technology stocks, while still providing diversity across other market sectors.
Interestingly, gold often underperforms the domestic stock market during periods of strong economic growth. The U.S. economy expanded at 2.4% annually between 2010 and 2020, driven by the rapid adoption of cloud and mobile technologies. During that time, the S&P 500 posted a total return of 257% (13.5% annually), while gold returned 38% (3% annually).
Similar outperformance is possible over the next decade as AI adoption drives the U.S. economy to new heights. So I would keep a much larger percentage of my portfolio in an S&P 500 index fund as opposed to gold, especially when gold's price has increased at an unprecedented pace in the past two years.
