ConocoPhillips COP, a leading energy company worldwide, is primarily involved in the exploration and production of crude oil, natural gas liquids (NGLs), bitumen and natural gas. Exxon Mobil’s shares have gained +3.7% over the year-to-date period against the Zacks Oil and Gas - Integrated - International industry’s gain of +6.7%. The company is advancing key oil projects in the Permian Basin and offshore Guyana, boosting production and efficiency. Its recent merger with Pioneer enhances its U.S. operations, while Guyana remains a major growth driver.
Exxon Mobil is also expanding into cleaner energy, with a major low-carbon hydrogen and ammonia plant in Texas and progress in advanced plastic recycling. The company’s low debt exposure positions it to navigate different commodity cycles with ease. The company reported better-than-expected second-quarter earnings fueled by higher liquid production from the United States and stronger industry refining margins.
However, the Chemicals Division remains a weak spot, with global oversupply leading to margin compression. Moreover, ongoing tariff tensions are weighing on the energy giant’s already oversupplied chemicals business.

Shares of AbbVie have outperformed the Zacks Large Cap Pharmaceuticals industry over the year-to-date period (+21% vs. +0.2%). The company beats second-quarter estimates for both earnings and sales. AbbVie has successfully navigated Humira's loss of exclusivity (LOE) by launching two other successful new immunology medicines, Skyrizi and Rinvoq, which are performing extremely well, bolstered by approvals in new indications.
These should support top-line growth in the next few years. AbbVie is returning to robust revenue growth in 2025, which is just the second year following the U.S. Humira LOE. It has been on an acquisition spree in the past couple of years to bolster its early-stage pipeline that should drive long-term growth.
However, the company faces several near-term headwinds like Humira LOE impact, increasing competitive pressure on Imbruvica and slowing sales of its aesthetics franchise.

Foolish take
Kimberly-Clark was one of the darlings of the pandemic, when consumers literally couldn’t buy enough toilet paper, tissues, and other paper goods. However, the initial pandemic surge did die out, causing the stock price to stagnate over time. In the last five years, the stock is down more than 15%. Year to date it’s up again by 1.69%, but that’s hardly worth writing home about.
Although Kimberly-Clark owns a number of brands that produce products that people need every day, including diapers and feminine hygiene products, the stock has failed to perform to expectations, including earnings misses in two of the last four quarters that may be attributed to an increasingly cost-sensitive consumer who may be choosing generic versions of this company’s products instead.
Declining birth rates are also not helping in core areas like diapers, though an aging population could increase demand for adult diapers over time. The company is currently undergoing restructuring that may help to reposition it for the future, including divesting smaller and less profitable business lines and focused harder on geographic growth opportunities and manufacturing optimization.
Challenges remain as global tariff negotiations continue to drag on and uncertainty abounds. Higher tariffs may mean Kimberly-Clark has to raise prices and this may cause further damage with that already stretched consumer who may be choosing cheaper options.

Slocum Gordon Exits Stake in Kimberly-Clark Worth Nearly $3 Million

Exxon Mobil Corporation XOM has a strong presence in offshore Guyana resources and the Permian, the most productive basin in the United States.
The integrated energy company announced that it discovered a massive amount of oil—nearly 11 billion barrels—off the coast of Guyana. To put it simply, this is the largest oil discovery anywhere in the world in the last 15 years. In the region, XOM has three active projects, combinedly producing at a rate of roughly 650,000 barrels per day. XOM expects a total of eight projects in the region to be online by 2030, which will produce a total of 1.7 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (MMBoE/D).
In the Permian, the energy giant is employing advanced technology to get much more oil out of each well, thereby improving oil recovery. From the most prolific basin, XOM is expecting to produce 2.3 MMBoE/D by the end of this decade, suggesting a surge from the current 1.6 MMBoE/D.
CVX & FANG’s Solid Permian Footprint
Like XOM, Chevron CVX and Diamondback Energy, Inc. FANG also produce significant volumes of oil and natural gas from the Permian.
Chevron has a strong footprint in the Permian. With more than 2 million net acres of land, CVX has been operating in the basin for more than 100 years.
Diamondback Energy is a pure-play Permian operator. FANG has a huge inventory of oil and gas wells, thereby showcasing a solid production outlook.
