(RTTNews) - Global energy technology company SLB N.V. (SLB) announced Thursday it has signed a strategic collaboration agreement with Shell plc (SHEL) to develop digital and AI solutions that drive measurable performance and efficiency gains across upstream operations for the company and the wider industry.
The collaboration is focusing on developing agentic AI-powered solutions that will accelerate and amplify the capabilities of technical experts and decision makers. The aim is to develop and deploy an open data and AI infrastructure that unifies data and workflows across subsurface, well construction and production in a secure digital environment, using SLB's Lumi data and AI platform.
The collaboration represents a long-standing relationship between the companies. Earlier this year, SLB announced a technical partnership to deploy its Petrel subsurface software across Shell's assets worldwide to standardize infrastructure and workflows and accelerate scalable digital solutions, helping to improve cost operating efficiencies.

SLB Inks Strategic Collaboration Agreement With Shell To Develop Digital And AI Solutions

Chevron Corporation CVX remains one of Nigeria’s most significant oil producers, managing extensive onshore, near-shore and deepwater operations in collaboration with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation. Its Nigerian portfolio includes operatorship of the Agbami Field, a major deepwater asset, along with a stake in the Usan Field, spanning a total of 2.9 million oil and gas acres as of 2024.
The company is now accelerating its growth plans in the country, supported by clearer regulatory frameworks introduced under the Petroleum Industry Act. Chevron has confirmed its intention to participate in Nigeria’s next oil licensing round, a move that reflects its strengthened confidence in the nation’s upstream environment and reinforces its long-term strategic commitment. With Nigeria set to offer 50 fields through a fully digital platform in the 2025 round, CVX’s interest in expanding its offshore presence positions it to capitalize on promising deepwater opportunities and broaden its global exploration portfolio.
In addition to the licensing round, Chevron has agreed to acquire a 40% interest in two offshore exploration licenses — PPL 2000 and PPL 2001 — from TotalEnergies SE TTE. These blocks will enhance exploration capacity and pave the way for new development projects.
Chevron also plans to bring in a drilling rig by late 2026 to evaluate recently identified resources near the Agbami hub. This initiative is aimed at extending the lifespan of existing assets and unlocking further reserves.
Leading Energy Players Broadening Their Reach in Nigeria
Recently, some major oil firms have been expanding in Nigeria as the nation boosts output and tackles theft and spills.
In May 2025, Shell plc SHEL acquired a 12.5% interest in Nigeria’s Bonga field located within the OML 118 Production Sharing Contract, increasing its total stake to 55%. Recently, Shell increased its stake in the same field to 65% after acquiring an additional 10% interest, reinforcing its commitment to expanding deep-water output in the Bonga field.
In November 2025, TotalEnergies reached agreements with Conoil to acquire an additional 50% stake in the OPL 257 exploration block, raising its ownership to 90%. The company reported production of 209,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in Nigeria in 2024. TotalEnergies has also expressed interest in joining the 2025 oil licensing round in Nigeria.

Chevron's Nigeria Play: Can New Licenses Unlock Its Next Growth Wave?

Venture Global delivered mixed results and lowered full-year profit expectations.
Customers are suing Venture Global over past undelivered cargoes, with a revived legal challenge during the month.
But the stock's decline could open up an opportunity if Venture Global can get by its legal troubles with minimal damage.
Shares of LNG exporter Venture Global (NYSE: VG) fell 13% in November, according to data from S&P Global Market Intelligence.
The move lower was notable, as Venture Global had already seen its stock fall significantly on the year, following a bad October stemming from an adverse arbitration court decision. In November, the company learned October's adverse decision might not be the end of its legal troubles, either.

Additionally, Venture Global reported third-quarter earnings, during which the company slightly decreased its profit outlook for the year.
Things go from bad to worse for Venture Global investors
In the third quarter, Venture Global saw its revenue surge 260% to $3.3 billion, surpassing expectations as it ramped its Calcasieu and Plaquemines LNG terminals. However, earnings per share of $0.16 fell slightly short of analysts' estimates.
Perhaps most consequential, the company slightly lowered its full-year outlook for adjusted EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization), from and range of $6.40 billion to $6.80 billion to a new range of $6.35 billion to $6.50 billion. The lower outlook is due to a lower assumed liquefaction fee in the fourth quarter compared to prior expectations, resulting from lower-than-expected international liquefied natural gas prices, as well as reserves taken into account regarding the company's legal disputes.
Speaking of those legal disputes, the day after Venture Global's earnings, it was reported that Shell (NYSE: SHEL) will challenge its prior defeat against Venture Global in an arbitration case from earlier in the year.
Shell is among several disgruntled Venture Global customers challenging the company in court over the timing of shipments from its Calcasieu Project between 2023 and 2025. At that time, Venture Global claimed Calcasieu had not yet reached "commercial" production, which enabled the company to sell cargoes on the spot market instead of commencing its long-term commercial agreements at lower fixed prices. In 2022, following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, spot prices for LNG surged far above the levels at which Venture Global had contracted with commercial customers.
While Shell lost in arbitration court earlier this year, BP (NYSE: BP) prevailed against Venture Global in October in a different court. In light of BP's win, it appears Shell will now challenge its own arbitration ruling.
With all the legal uncertainty and the prospect of billions in potential damages, it's no wonder Venture Global stock sold off, exceeding even its April "Liberation Day" lows.
Is Venture Global worth buying on the dip?
If Venture Global can navigate this period without incurring significant damages, this sell-off could be an opportunity. After all, the company is on track to potentially produce over 100 million tons of LNG per annum when all its planned terminals come online, which could make it a key global energy supplier.
And despite disgruntled current customers, Venture Global continues to sign up new ones. The company was able to sign up two new long-term offtake agreements in November: a 20-year agreement with Greece's SEE LNG Trade S.A., and another 20-year agreement with Spain's Naturgy.
As long as the company can continue to ink supply agreements and dodge the worst-case scenario regarding potential fines, Venture Global may be a turnaround candidate. But risks are high, so interested investors should have a good knowledge of LNG industry dynamics before diving in.

Why Venture Global Fell Back to Its April Lows in November

Exxon and Chevron both have long histories of rewarding investors well with regular dividend increases.
Chevron, despite a shorter streak of payout increases, will likely be the dividend pick for most income lovers.
The energy sector is renowned for its high volatility, largely because of the importance of oil and natural gas to the top- and bottom-lines of most energy businesses. However, there are some companies that have proved they have what it takes to survive the energy cycle while still rewarding investors well with dividends. Two of the best are ExxonMobil (NYSE: XOM) and Chevron (NYSE: CVX). Which one could be best for you as we head into 2026?
The business models are similar
Exxon and Chevron are both integrated energy companies. This means they have exposure to oil and natural gas production (the industry's upstream segment), pipelines and other transportation assets (the midstream), and chemicals and refining (the downstream).

This is important because each segment of the broader industry operates a little differently as the energy cycle progresses. Having all three under one roof helps to smooth out the peaks and valleys that come with energy price fluctuations.
There are slight variations in their specific businesses and their approaches. For example, Chevron has tended to have more exposure to commodity prices. However, both are strong, diversified options.
They are both giants, but one is bigger
Exxon is the second-largest publicly traded energy company, followed by Chevron in third place. If you prefer to go with industry-leading companies, either one will do. That said, Chevron's market cap is roughly $300 billion while Exxon's market cap is about $500 billion. Bigger isn't always better, but Exxon is substantially larger than Chevron.
Each company is globally diversified
A significant amount of effort in recent years has gone into expanding in the U.S. market, primarily to gain access to quick-to-develop oil and natural gas in key fracking areas. That is also true of Exxon and Chevron.
However, both have globally diversified portfolios. This fact, plus their integrated models, allows them to direct their capital investments to where management believes they can generate the highest returns.
Examining return on capital employed, which measures how effectively a company's capital investments have performed, Exxon has historically outperformed Chevron. Still, neither company's performance here falls outside the normal range for their peer group.
There are also times when Chevron outperforms Exxon. On average, Exxon is likely a better capital allocator, but Chevron is hardly a poor one.
Rock solid financial foundations
Another way in which these two energy giants are similar is the strength of their balance sheets. Exxon's debt-to-equity ratio is an ultra-low 0.16, and Chevron's ratio is slightly higher at 0.22. Both are low on an absolute basis and would be attractive for any company. And both are at the low end of the peer group, noting that the European integrated energy giants tend to carry more debt and more cash.
Less debt is likely better than more debt and more cash. Simply put, Exxon and Chevron both have ample capacity to take on debt during energy downturns, enabling them to support their businesses and dividends throughout the entire cycle. The proof of this is evident in the dividend cuts at BP and Shell during the 2020 pandemic, a particularly challenging period for energy markets.
The dividend will likely inform the final determination
The key differentiator between Exxon and Chevron as 2025 comes to a close is likely to be their dividends. However, there are ways in which, even here, the companies are very close. For example, while Exxon has increased its dividend annually for 43 years, Chevron's streak is not exactly shabby at 38 years. Yes, Exxon's streak is better, but both have proved they place a high value on dividends.
Where things get a little more interesting is in the dividend yield. Exxon's yield is 3.5% right now while Chevron's is 4.5%. That's a full percentage point higher, which is a roughly 29% bump in the income you'll collect. Although these are two similar businesses, the income that dividend investors can generate with Chevron is substantially higher.
Exxon vs. Chevron is a nuanced decision
You probably wouldn't be making a mistake buying either one of these energy industry giants. They have consistently demonstrated over time that they know how to navigate the energy cycle and, at the same time, reward their shareholders with reliable and growing dividends.
However, an investment in Chevron will allow you to generate materially more income as the calendar year switches from 2025 to 2026. For many investors, that will be the key to selecting one of these energy stocks over the other.

Shell Signs Long-Term Renewable Energy Deal With Ferrari

Chevron Corporation CVX is quickly adopting robotics to transform its operations, making the workplace safer and more efficient by removing people from high-risk tasks. Over the past two and a half years, the American supermajor has steadily introduced robotic systems into field jobs, ranging from cleaning storage tanks to inspecting facilities from the air.
This change is part of Chevron's strategy to build smarter energy infrastructure, where technology reduces the physical demands on workers and automates jobs that once required long hours of on-site manual labor. Notably, the company's leaders stress that this isn't just a technological upgrade — it's primarily a safety strategy that helps teams avoid dangerous areas and cramped spaces.
One of the most powerful examples is in Chevron’s large storage tanks. Instead of sending workers inside tanks for inspections or cleaning, the company now uses specialized robotic tools to do the work remotely. This switch has created major benefits: since 2024, tank inspection robots have saved over $25 million and about 43,000 working hours, while robotic cleaning systems have added another $6 million in savings and eliminated 28,000 working hours. These efficiency gains allow field teams to focus their time on more critical, high-value work, which reduces facility downtime and improves overall reliability.
Chevron is also increasingly using drones (unmanned aerial vehicles) for tasks like visual checks, spotting heat leaks (thermal inspections), and detecting emissions. They are also moving toward autonomous "drone-in-a-box" monitoring systems, designed to greatly reduce the need for workers to physically visit sites. When these drones are combined with remotely operated vehicles used throughout their facilities, the company’s automation efforts have eliminated over 143,000 hours of at-risk work and generated more than $92 million in total savings since 2024. These technologies clearly show how robotics is now essential to making Chevron's daily operations safer, more efficient and fully modernized.

Europe’s largest oil company, Shell SHEL, is expanding its robotics capabilities across operations to make inspection and maintenance safer, faster and more consistent. Shell uses robots on land, underwater, and in the air to reduce human exposure and streamline data collection. Shell’s methane-sniffing units, mobile inspection systems like Sensabot and ExR-1, and autonomous underwater vehicles all work as roaming sensors that spot leaks, assess equipment, and gather high-frequency imagery. TotalEnergies’ ARGOS program introduced autonomous inspection robots capable of detecting gas leaks, monitoring temperatures, and capturing 3D data across complex facilities. TotalEnergies tested these robots from the Shetlands to the North Sea and Angola, confirming remote oversight and multi-robot coordination. With new operator-robots now able to manipulate equipment, TotalEnergies is building toward fully integrated robotic ecosystems across its global assets.
