AbbVie ABBV is known for its strong immunology franchise comprising blockbuster drugs like Skyrizi, Rinvoq and Humira. However, AbbVie has also built a substantial oncology franchise with products like Imbruvica and Venclexta.
Some key oncology drugs approved in the past couple of years are AbbVie and partner Genmab’s Epkinly for relapsed or refractory (r/r) third-line diffuse large B-cell lymphoma and third-line r/r follicular lymphoma, and Emrelis, which was approved in May 2025 for previously treated non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer with high c-Met expression. Elahere was added to AbbVie’s oncology portfolio with the February 2024 acquisition of Immunogen. These three new drugs have strengthened AbbVie’s oncology franchise. Elahere and Epkinly both delivered double-digit revenue growth in the first half of 2025. Emrelis should start to contribute to oncology sales from the second half of 2025.
AbbVie’s oncology segment generated combined revenues of $3.3 billion in the first half of 2025, rising 4.2% year over year as higher sales of Venclexta and contributions from new drugs, Elahere and Epkinly, more than offset declining Imbruvica sales due to competitive pressure.
Our estimates for AbbVie’s oncology portfolio suggest a CAGR of 3.5% over the next three years.
AbbVie is also strengthening its portfolio of oncology medicines with the addition of antibody-drug conjugates or ADCs. The ADCs are considered a disruptive innovation in the pharmaceutical industry as they will allow better treatment of cancer by harnessing the targeting power of antibodies to deliver cytotoxic molecule drugs to tumors. The company now has two ADCs in the commercial portfolio (i.e., Elahere and Emrelis) and two additional promising next-generation ADCs in late-stage development (Temab-A and pivekimab sunirine), plus some others in early-stage development.
Another key candidate in its oncology pipeline is etentamig/ABBV-383, a BCMA CD3 bispecific being developed for relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma.
Overall, AbbVie’s oncology business is well-positioned for growth over the next several years, despite continued competitive pressure on Imbruvica.
Competition in the Oncology Space
Other bigger players in the oncology space are AstraZeneca AZN, Merck MRK, Bristol-Myers and Pfizer PFE.
For AstraZeneca, oncology sales now comprise around 43% of total revenues. Sales in its oncology segment rose 16% in the first half of 2025. AstraZeneca’s strong oncology performance was driven by medicines such as Tagrisso, Lynparza, Imfinzi, Calquence and Enhertu (in partnership with Daiichi Sankyo).
Merck’s key oncology medicines are PD-L1 inhibitor Keytruda and PARP inhibitor Lynparza, which it markets in partnership with AstraZeneca. Keytruda, approved for several types of cancer, alone accounts for around 50% of Merck’s pharmaceutical sales. Keytruda’s sales rose 6.6% to $15.1 billion in the first half of 2025.
Bristol-Myers’ key cancer drug is PD-L1 inhibitor, Opdivo, which accounts for around 20% of its total revenues. Opdivo’s sales rose 9% to $4.82 billion in the first half of 2025.
Oncology sales comprise more than 25% of Pfizer’s total revenues. Its oncology revenues grew 9% in the first half of 2025, driven by drugs like Xtandi, Lorbrena, the Braftovi-Mektovi combination and Padcev, which made up for declining sales of drugs like Ibrance. Pfizer has also ventured into the oncology biosimilars space and markets six biosimilars for cancer. Pfizer also advanced its oncology clinical pipeline with several candidates entering late-stage development, like sasanlimab, vepdegestrant and sigvotatug vedotin.
ABBV’s Price Performance, Valuation and Estimates
AbbVie’s stock has gained 21.2% so far this year compared with an increase of 0.2% for the industry.

From a valuation standpoint, AbbVie is not very cheap. Going by the price/earnings ratio, the company’s shares currently trade at 15.54 forward earnings, higher than 14.64 for the industry. The stock is also trading above its five-year mean of 12.69.

The Zacks Consensus Estimate for 2025 earnings has declined from $12.03 per share to $12.02, while that for 2026 has increased from $14.08 to $14.31 per share over the past 30 days.

ABBV's Improving Oncology Sales Poise It Well for Long-Term Growth

Pfizer faces some challenges but should continue to survive and thrive as it has for 176 years.
What's better than a stock that pays great dividends? How about one that's also a bargain? Granted, most strong dividend stocks aren't available at a discount in the current high-flying market. However, that doesn't mean you can't find them at all.
I can think of several dividend-paying, deep-value stocks to buy in August. One stock stands at the top of my list: pharmaceutical giant Pfizer (NYSE: PFE).

Pfizer's juicy dividend
Pfizer's forward dividend yield currently stands at 6.86%. This yield is so attractive that I wondered if it's the highest of any healthcare stock. It is (or was recently, anyway). As of Aug. 19, 2025, Pfizer's forward dividend yield was the juiciest in the healthcare sector.
The big drugmaker's dividend track record is impressive, too. Pfizer has paid 347 consecutive quarterly dividends. The company has increased its dividend for 16 consecutive years.
Can Pfizer keep the dividends flowing and growing? I think it can. So does the company's management team. CFO David Denton reiterated in Pfizer's second-quarter earnings call that the dividend program remains first on the drugmaker's capital allocation priorities, stating, "Our strategy consists of maintaining and growing our dividend over time."
Sure, Pfizer's dividend payout ratio of around 90% is higher than I'd like. However, the pharmaceutical company's earnings continue to grow. Pfizer even recently raised its full-year earnings guidance. It's also on track to cut costs by around $7.2 billion by the end of 2027, which will further improve the bottom line and the payout ratio.
A tremendous value
Let's shift gears to discuss Pfizer's tremendous value. The stock's forward price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio is only 8.3. That's a fraction of the S&P 500's forward earnings multiple of 22.8. It's also well below the S&P 500 healthcare sector's average forward P/E of 16.5.
One question comes to mind, though: Is Pfizer a value trap? After all, the drugmaker faces a patent cliff with several of its top-selling products losing patent exclusivity over the next few years. The list includes blood thinner Eliquis, which generated nearly $7.6 billion for Pfizer last year, and breast cancer drug Ibrance, which raked in almost $4.4 billion in sales.
I think Pfizer is in a better position than meets the eye to navigate its patent cliff. The company has several new products with strong growth prospects, notably including migraine drug Nurtec ODT, RSV vaccine Abrysvo, and multiple myeloma drug Elrexfio. Pfizer's pipeline also features 108 candidates, with 28 late-stage programs and four awaiting regulatory approvals.
Wall Street seems to agree that Pfizer isn't a value trap. The consensus 12-month price target reflects an upside potential of over 13%. Pfizer's price-to-earnings-to-growth (PEG) ratio, which is based on five-year earnings growth projections of analysts surveyed by LSEG, is a low 0.86. This PEG ratio suggests that analysts aren't overly concerned about Pfizer's growth prospects, even with multiple drugs losing exclusivity.
Some risks
Pfizer does face some risks. Although I believe it will weather the patent cliff relatively well, the losses of exclusivity make the company more dependent on the success of its new drugs and pipeline programs. Sometimes, new drugs don't perform as well as expected. Pipeline candidates can also sometimes flop in clinical trials.
President Trump's threatened pharmaceutical tariffs could negatively impact Pfizer. So could his administration's push to implement "most-favored-nation" drug pricing, which aims to tie U.S. drug prices to the lowest prices paid by other developed nations.
Again, though, I think Pfizer will survive and thrive -- just as it has for 176 years. For investors seeking high dividend yields and deep value, I view Pfizer as the best pick on the market right now.

My Top Dividend-Paying, Deep-Value Stock to Buy in August

Merck MRK announced that the FDA has granted the Breakthrough Therapy designation (BTD) to its B7-H3-directed DXd antibody-drug conjugate (ADC), ifinatamab deruxtecan (I-DXd), for treating adult patients with extensive-stage small cell lung cancer whose disease progressed on or after platinum-based chemotherapy.
The FDA’s Breakthrough Therapy designation is a process that speeds up the development and review of drugs for serious or life-threatening conditions. This designation is granted when early clinical evidence suggests that a drug may significantly improve over existing treatments on one or more important clinical measures.
The FDA’s latest decision was based on data from the phase II IDeate-Lung01 study with support from the phase I/II IDeate-PanTumor01 study. The IDeate-Lung01 study evaluated the safety and efficacy of I-DXdin in the given patient population.

MRK & Daiichi's Deal for I-DXd & Other ADC Candidates
Besides extensive-stage small cell lung cancer, I-DXd is being evaluated in separate phase III studies for treating esophageal cancer and prostate cancer. Developed by Daiichi Sankyo, this ADC drug candidate already enjoys an orphan drug designation for treating small-cell lung cancer in the United States, Europe and some other countries.
Merck acquired global co-development and co-commercialization rights to I-DXd and two other ADCs, patritumab deruxtecan and raludotatug deruxtecan, from Daiichi Sankyo in October 2023 for a total potential consideration of up to $22 billion. However, Daiichi Sankyo has retained exclusive rights for the development of the candidates in Japan.
In August last year, Merck expanded the collaboration to co-develop and co-commercialize MK-6070, an investigational T-cell engager targeting delta-like ligand 3 (DLL3), which it obtained from its recent acquisition of Harpoon Therapeutics.
Patritumab deruxtecan is being developed in late-stage studies for breast cancer, while raludotatug deruxtecan is being developed in mid-stage studies for ovarian cancer as well as other cancer indications.
Competition in the ADC Space
ADCs are being considered a disruptive innovation in the pharmaceutical industry, as these will enable better treatment of cancer by harnessing the targeting power of antibodies to deliver cytotoxic molecule drugs to tumors.
Daiichi Sankyo has several ADCs in clinical development across multiple types of cancer. It markets Enhertu, a HER2-directed ADC, in partnership with AstraZeneca AZN, which is presently approved across multiple indications, including HER2-mutated breast, lung and gastric cancers.
In January 2025, the FDA approved AZN and Daiichi’s second ADC drug, Datroway, for treating unresectable or metastatic HR-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer in adult patients who have received prior endocrine-based therapy and chemotherapy. The FDA approved Datroway for its second indication, non-small-cell lung cancer, in June.
Pfizer PFE also forayed into the lucrative ADC space with the acquisition of Seagen for $43 billion in late 2023.
Following this acquisition, PFE added three ADCs to its portfolio — Adcetris, Padcev, Tukysa and Tivdak — all approved across various types of solid tumors and hematologic malignancies. These products contributed meaningfully to Pfizer’s revenues in 2024 and in the first half of 2025.

MRK's ADC Candidate Gets FDA Breakthrough Therapy Tag for Lung Cancer

Pfizer PFE is one of the largest and most successful drugmakers in oncology. It boasts a strong portfolio of approved cancer medicines as well as a robust pipeline of cancer candidates with a focus on multiple modalities, including small molecules, antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) and immuno-oncology biologics.
The addition of Seagen in 2023 also strengthened its position in oncology by adding four ADCs — Adcetris, Padcev, Tukysa and Tivdak. The acquired Seagen products contributed meaningfully to Pfizer’s revenues in 2024 and in the first half of 2025. Seagen also has some next-generation ADC candidates in its pipeline.

Xtandi recorded alliance revenues of $566 million in the quarter, up 14% year over year. Lorbrena sales rose 48% to $251 million. Braftovi/Mektovi revenues were $182 million, up 23% year over year. New drug, Elrexfio, generated sales of $85 million in the second quarter. Ibrance revenues declined 8% year over year to $1.05 billion due to continued competitive pressure across markets. Among the ADCs added from the acquisition of Seagen, Adcetris sales were $255 million in the second quarter, which declined 9% year over year due to competitive pressure in the United States. Padcev rose 38% to $542 million, driven by strong demand trends.
Pfizer has ventured into the oncology biosimilars space and markets six biosimilars for cancer. Revenues from oncology biosimilars were $353 million in the second quarter, up 27% year over year.
Pfizer also advanced its oncology clinical pipeline with several candidates entering late-stage development, like sasanlimab, vepdegestrant and sigvotatug vedotin. By 2030, it expects to have eight or more blockbuster oncology medicines in its portfolio.
In July, it closed a global ex-China in-licensing agreement with China's 3SBio for exclusive rights to the latter’s dual PD-1 and VEGF inhibitor, which will strengthen its oncology pipeline.
Pfizer is also working on expanding the labels of approved oncology drugs like Padcev, Adcetris and Elrexfio, among others.
With all the above developments, Pfizer’s future in cancer treatment looks promising. Continued growth of Pfizer’s diversified portfolio of oncology drugs should support top-line growth in the second half of 2025.

From a valuation standpoint, Pfizer appears attractive relative to the industry and is trading below its 5-year mean. Going by the price/earnings ratio, the company’s shares currently trade at 8.08 forward earnings, lower than 14.45 for the industry and the stock’s 5-year mean of 10.78.

(RTTNews) - Pfizer Canada ULC and BioNTech SE (BNTX) announced that Health Canada has authorized the LP.8.1 variant adapted COMIRNATY COVID-19 vaccine for individuals aged 6 months and older. The updated COMIRNATY vaccine specifically targets the Omicron LP.8.1 variant, one of the most recently circulating SARS-CoV-2 lineages.
This season's Pfizer and BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine will be available in pharmacies across the country in the fall, the companies said.
BioNTech is the Marketing Authorization Holder for COMIRNATY and its adapted vaccines in the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Canada and other countries, and the holder of emergency use authorizations or equivalents in other countries.

Health Canada Authorizes Pfizer-BioNTech's LP.8.1-Adapted COMIRNATY COVID-19 Vaccine

AstraZeneca AZN is one of the leading drugmakers in the oncology space. Oncology sales (comprising around 43% of AstraZeneca‘s total revenues) rose 18% in the second quarter of 2025, generating $6.3 billion in sales. In the first half of 2025, the Oncology segment generated almost $12 billion in revenues, which rose 16% year over year. The strong oncology performance was driven by medicines such as Tagrisso, Lynparza, Imfinzi, Calquence and Enhertu (in partnership with Daiichi Sankyo). AstraZeneca also has a profit-sharing deal with Merck MRK for Lynparza.
AstraZeneca is working on strengthening its oncology product portfolio through label expansions of existing products and progressing oncology pipeline candidates.
A key new cancer drug approval was that of Truqap for HR-positive, HER2-negative (HR+ HER2-) breast cancer. The drug has seen a robust launch, recording sales of $302 million in the first half of 2025, driven by demand growth in the second-line biomarker-altered population. AstraZeneca expects further growth for Truqap to be driven by increased uptake within the PIK3CA population and additional global launches. AstraZeneca and partner Daiichi’s drug, Datroway, was approved by the FDA for HR+ HER2- breast cancer in January and for EGFR-mutated non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in June this year. Datroway witnessed encouraging early launch signals in the United States for the breast cancer indication in the first half, recording sales of $14 million.
Important late-stage oncology candidates in AstraZeneca’s pipeline are camizestrant (HR+ HER2- metastatic breast cancer), volrustomig (several types of cancers), sonesitatug vedotin (advanced or metastatic gastric or GEJ adenocarcinoma) and surovatamig (previously untreated follicular lymphoma). Regulatory applications seeking approval of Imfinzi for early-stage gastric and gastroesophageal junction cancers are under regulatory review.
AstraZeneca expects continued growth of its oncology medicines in the second half, particularly Tagrisso, Enhertu, and Merck-partnered Lynparza and Imfinzi, despite the incremental impact of the Part D redesign. Our estimates for AstraZeneca’s total oncology portfolio suggest a CAGR of around 11.1% over the next three years.

Pfizer (NYSE: PFE) was a hot stock during the pandemic, but it has been crashing in recent years. The company's COVID vaccine resulted in the business posting record sales and profits in 2022. But then, as things went back to normal and demand diminished for its vaccine, so too did interest in Pfizer's stock.
What's startling, however, is the stock hasn't simply gone back to the levels it was at back before the pandemic -- it has been on a full-blown crash. Recently, the company released some positive earnings numbers. Could they mark a turning point for this struggling stock, and could now be a good time to invest in Pfizer?
Pfizer posts strong Q2 numbers and boosts guidance
On Aug. 5, Pfizer released its second-quarter earnings for 2025. Revenue for the June quarter totaled $14.7 billion, rising 10% year over year. And it easily came in above analyst estimates of $13.6 billion. On the bottom line, its adjusted earnings per share (EPS) was $0.78, also smashing expectations of $0.58. It also raised its guidance, now projecting adjusted EPS between $2.90 and $3.10 for the full year (versus its previous guidance of $2.80 to $3.00).
With a result like that, you might have expected shares of Pfizer to take off. Not only did it beat expectations, it performed the highly coveted beat-and-raise combo. And yet, the stock has barely moved since releasing its quarterly numbers.
The stock is now being weighed down by other factors
Pfizer can't catch a break. Its strong earnings performance comes at a time when the U.S. government is threatening tariffs on imported pharmaceuticals and is trying to get pharma companies to reduce drug prices. This doesn't bode well for the company, as these types of developments could lead to shrinking numbers on both its top and bottom lines.
The good news is that this isn't a Pfizer-specific problem. These are industry headwinds weighing down healthcare stocks as a whole. The Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund has declined by 13% in the past 12 months, which is similar to how Pfizer has performed over that stretch.
The bad news, however, is that there is so much uncertainty about how all these factors might play out, how they might impact Pfizer's financials, and how long they may last. With so many question marks, it's easy to see why investors may be looking elsewhere to invest.
Pfizer may be an ideal buy-and-wait stock
I don't know how government policies will play out, or how they'll affect Pfizer's business in particular. But I am confident that in the long run, policies will be put in place to incentivize pharma companies to develop life-saving drugs and treatments, not deter them. That's why regardless of what happens in the short term with respect to government actions, I don't believe that in the long run they will weigh down and impede Pfizer and other top healthcare businesses, which continually invest in their growth and the development of new drugs.
It may take a while before optimism returns to the healthcare sector, and Pfizer's stock may not end up rallying in the days or weeks ahead. But with the business's cost-cutting efforts paying off and the company exhibiting a lot of growth with the potential for even more in the long run, Pfizer may be one of the best stocks to put in your portfolio right now and simply forget about.
Plus, with a dividend yield of 7%, there's plenty of incentive to remain patient with the stock.

Pre-Market Most Active for Aug 14, 2025 : TSLL, PFE, OPEN, AAPL, BLSH, IBIT, JD, ETHA, CCL, CVX, BBAI, NIO

With the end of the pandemic, sales of Pfizer’s PFE COVID products, Comirnaty and Paxlovid, have declined from their peak. However, Pfizer’s non-COVID operational revenues are improving, driven by its key in-line products like Vyndaqel, Padcev and Eliquis, new launches and newly acquired products like Nurtec and those from Seagen (December 2023).
Year 2023 was a record year for Pfizer in terms of new drug approvals. It received nine new medicine/vaccine approvals in 2023 that have begun to contribute to top-line growth. In 2024, it gained approval for a gene therapy for hemophilia, Hympavzi (marstacimab). In December 2023, Pfizer acquired Seagen, which strengthened its position in oncology by adding four antibody-drug conjugates or ADCs — Adcetris, Padcev, Tukysa and Tivdak. The acquired Seagen products contributed meaningfully to Pfizer’s revenues in 2024 and the first half of 2025. Seagen also has some next-generation ADC candidates in its pipeline.
Pfizer's recently launched and acquired products delivered $4.7 billion in revenues in the first half of 2025. Revenues from these products rose approximately 15% operationally versus last year. Pfizer expects the positive momentum to continue in the second half.
Pfizer faces its share of challenges, including COVID-19 product-related uncertainty, U.S. Medicare Part D headwinds, the upcoming loss of exclusivity (LOE) cliff in the 2026-2030 period, uncertainties around tariffs and a volatile macro environment. However, with COVID-related uncertainties diminishing, its revenue volatility is declining. Pfizer’s key drugs like Vyndaqel, Padcev and its recently launched and acquired products should help the company largely offset its LOEs over the next several years. Pfizer expects the 2025 to 2030 revenue CAGR to be approximately 6% despite the LOE cliff.
Pfizer expects the acquisition of Seagen to contribute more than $10 billion in 2030 risk-adjusted revenues with potential significant growth beyond 2030.
Competition in the Oncology Space
Pfizer is one of the largest drugmakers of cancer medicines. Other large players in the oncology space are AstraZeneca AZN, Merck MRK and Bristol-Myers BMY.
For AstraZeneca, oncology sales now comprise around 43% of total revenues. Sales in its oncology segment rose 16% in the first half of 2025. AstraZeneca’s strong oncology performance was driven by medicines such as Tagrisso, Lynparza, Imfinzi, Calquence and Enhertu (in partnership with Daiichi Sankyo).
Merck’s key oncology medicines are PD-LI inhibitor, Keytruda and PARP inhibitor, Lynparza, which it markets in partnership with AstraZeneca. Keytruda, approved for several types of cancer, alone accounts for around 50% of Merck’s pharmaceutical sales. Keytruda’s sales rose 6.6% to $15.1 billion in the first half of 2025.
Bristol-Myers’ key cancer drug is PD-LI inhibitor, Opdivo, which accounts for around 20% of its total revenues. Opdivo’s sales rose 9% to $4.82 billion in the first half of 2025.
PFE’s Stock Price, Estimates & Valuation
Pfizer’s stock has declined 2.1% so far this year compared with a decrease of 6.4% for the industry.

From a valuation standpoint, Pfizer appears attractive relative to the industry and is trading below its 5-year mean. Going by the price/earnings ratio, the company’s shares currently trade at 7.95 forward earnings, lower than 13.73 for the industry and the stock’s 5-year mean of 10.79. The stock is also much cheaper than other large drugmakers like AbbVie, Novo Nordisk, Lilly, AstraZeneca and J&J.
