Those weightings may not seem huge until you remember that there are about 490 other companies. These 10 above represent about 2% of the index's holdings but 39% of its total value. So if you invest in the S&P 500 because it's a great way to be quickly and easily invested in 500 of America's biggest companies, you are invested in those companies, but more than a third of your investment is in these 10 companies alone.

As you can see, you won't have much invested in the vast majority of the companies.
That can be OK, though. Maybe you like those tech heavyweights in the top 10 -- which include all of the "Magnificent Seven" stocks (Apple, Amazon, Alphabet, Meta Platforms, Microsoft, Nvidia, and Tesla). Maybe you want to invest in the 500 companies, with most of your money going to the biggest. After all, most of them have grown very rapidly over the past few years.
Keep in mind, though, that when there's a stock market crash or correction, as there invariably is now and then, those high-flying growth stocks are often the ones that fall harder. That, too, can be OK as long as you have a very long-term investing period. But it's not ideal.
Is there a better alternative to the S&P 500?
There is an alternative to standard S&P 500 index funds that's worth considering: An equal-weighted one. Standard ones are weighted by market cap, meaning the larger a company's market cap, the greater its weighting. The Invesco S&P 500 Equal Weight ETF (NYSEMKT: RSP), in contrast, is equal-weighted. The 500 components are rebalanced quarterly, so between rebalancings you'll see fluctuations in the weightings as various stocks gain or lose value from day to day and year to year. Note that Micron Technology appears in both top 10 lists, but in the earlier one, it has a 1.67% weighting, while in the fund above, it has a much lower weighting of 0.35%. This kind of index fund has you much more invested in the other 490 stocks beyond the top 10 -- though, of course, each stock has a relatively minor weighting. But every promising stock will have an equal chance of outperforming for you.
An equal-weighted S&P 500 ETF may not grow as fast as a market-cap-weighted one, but during a market downturn, it may hold its value a bit more. Over the past 15 years, this ETF has averaged annual gains of about 12%, while the Vanguard S&P 500 ETF has averaged 14.4%. There's a trade-off, but it's not enormous. Give equal-weighted S&P 500 index funds some consideration.

Have S&P 500 Index Funds, Often Touted as the Best Stock Investments, Become Dangerous? There's a Worrisome Development -- and a Possibly Better Alternative.

Bristol Myers Squibb BMY is navigating a revenue mix shift as growth products portfolio now assumes a larger role in the business, helping mitigate the impact of declining sales from mature products facing generics.
The growth portfolio — including Opdivo, Opdivo Qvantig, Orencia, Yervoy, Reblozyl, Camzyos, Breyanzi, Opdualag, Zeposia, Sotyku, Krazati and Cobenfy — is becoming central to top-line resilience. Sales from this segment rose 12% in the first quarter of 2026, lifting its contribution to 54% of total revenues from 49.7% in the first quarter of 2025. This shift signals improving revenue durability and supports a more favorable long-term growth outlook.
Within this mix, Reblozyl, Breyanzi, Opdualag, Qvantig and Cobenfy propelled growth in the first quarter.
Opdivo Qvantig (nivolumab and hyaluronidase-nvhy- subcutaneous formulation) has witnessed strong uptake across all approved tumor types in the United States.
Other key drugs are contributing to revenue growth, though at varying stages of maturity.
Opdualag sales remain robust, particularly in the United States, where it continues to serve as a standard of care in first-line melanoma.
Reblozyl recorded strong sales growth, driven by continued adoption in both first-line and second-line treatment settings for patients with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS)-associated anemia.
Breyanzi continues to deliver solid growth, driven by ongoing uptake across its approved large B-cell lymphoma indications in both the United States and international markets. The strong performance highlights sustained demand for the therapy and supports expectations for continued commercial expansion.
Camzyos continues to gain traction in the cardiovascular market, supported by growing demand and increased adoption among eligible patients.
In immunology, Sotyktu remains an important growth driver. The recent approval in psoriatic arthritis expands its commercial opportunity and strengthens BMY’s presence in rheumatology. Additional upside could come from ongoing phase III programs in systemic lupus erythematosus and Sjögren’s disease, which may further broaden the drug’s addressable market, if successful.
Newer therapies like Cobenfy also add optionality to the long-term story, with early launch traction and potential label expansions positioning it as a future growth lever.
The transition is not without challenges. The legacy portfolio — including Eliquis, Revlimid, Pomalyst, Sprycel and Abraxane — still represents 46% of revenues and continues to face significant erosion due to loss of exclusivity for four drugs (Revlimid, Pomalyst, Sprycel and Abraxane).
BMY’s Competition in Oncology Space
Oncology is a key therapeutic area of focus for Bristol Myers, which is developing and delivering transformational medicines in this space.
The company competes with big pharma giants like Merck MRK and Pfizer PFE in this space.
The immuno-oncology space is dominated by pharma giant MRK’s blockbuster drug Keytruda (pembrolizumab).
Keytruda is approved for several types of cancer and alone accounts for around 55% of MRK’s pharmaceutical sales. Merck is currently working on different strategies to drive long-term growth of Keytruda.
Pfizer is one of the largest and most successful drugmakers in the field of oncology. It has an innovative oncology product portfolio of antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), small molecules, bispecifics and other immune-oncology biologics that treat a wide range of cancers, including breast cancer, gastrointestinal cancer, genitourinary cancer, hematology-oncology, and thoracic cancers, which includes lung cancer.
Pfizer’s position in oncology was strengthened with the addition of Seagen.
The company inked a licensing agreement with 3SBio for the development, manufacturing and commercialization of SSGJ-707, a bispecific antibody targeting PD-1 and VEGF, outside China.
BMY’s Price Performance, Valuation & Estimates
Shares of Bristol Myers have gained 5.5% year to date against the industry’s decline of 3.9%.

Can Bristol Myers' Growth Portfolio Offset Legacy Drug Declines?

Pfizer aims to enter the weight loss drug market, and one platform should be the workhorse of this effort.
That workhorse, called berobenatide, is performing as well as the company’s been hoping.
It could prove very marketable despite Eli Lilly’s and Novo Nordisk’s commanding lead in this race.
Pharmaceutical giants Novo Nordisk (NYSE: NVO) and Eli Lilly (NYSE: LLY) are still the two titans of the weight loss drug market, to be sure. Lilly sold $13.5 billion worth of GLP-1-based Zepbound last year, while Novo reported revenue of more than $30 billion (U.S.) from its anti-obesity drugs Wegovy and Ozempic, with its weight loss arm experiencing year-over-year sales growth of more than 26%.
As is so often the case, though, would-be competitors aren't simply letting market leaders have unfettered access to a market that Morgan Stanley now believes will grow to a stunning $150 billion per year by 2035.

Drugmaker Pfizer (NYSE: PFE) is throwing its hat into the ring as well, recently offering a developmental update that should concern Novo Nordisk, Eli Lilly, and the shareholders of this weight-loss drug duopoly. Let's see what this could mean for all three companies.
Less is more
It's called berobenatide. In many ways, it's like the aforementioned Wegovy and Zepbound, as it leverages the GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) receptor pathway to induce weight loss. And it's administered by subcutaneous injection.
There is one big way Pfizer's anti-obesity drug berobenatide -- also known as PF-08653944 -- differs from Wegovy, Ozempic, and Zepbound, though. That is, whereas Lilly's and Novo's treatments are injected weekly, Pfizer's GLP-1 receptor agonist requires only a monthly injection to achieve comparable weight-loss results.
That's what the developmental update, unveiled recently at the 86th Scientific Sessions of the American Diabetes Association, suggests, anyway. As the company's corresponding press release explains, the drug's phase 2b trials successfully "highlight the potential for monthly delivery in a patient-friendly presentation with a very low 0.5 mL injection volume that provides convenience and scalability advantages" for patients with or without type 2 diabetes. It's also about as well tolerated as alternatives.
There are some measurable trade-offs, of course. While this particular study showed a typical weight loss of 15.9% at the 32-week mark, patients might do slightly better with Novo Nordisk's or Eli Lilly's GLP-1 options as part of a clinically managed or carefully followed treatment regimen.
However, given that its average weight loss reflects a wide range of inputs that may or may not be affected by deviations from a dosing or diet regimen, some patients could conceivably achieve better personal results. Some observers also argue that berobenatide may produce better net weight loss in the long run simply because it's easier to stick to its corresponding weight-loss plan.
The trial's results also affirm the idea that this drug may be effective at maintaining a lower weight once a user's weight-loss goal has been met.
The rest of the story is even more compelling
It's an obvious win for Pfizer. But even a late-phase 2b win for a single drug in its R&D pipeline isn't exactly game-changing for the company. There's still phase 3 testing to be done, which is not only time-consuming, but puts previous-stage results to the test on a wider scale. Veteran investors know all too well that the FDA can often spot something it doesn't like late in a drug's development that it didn't notice before.
Just understand that this same anti-obesity treatment -- berobenatide -- isn't just in one single mid-stage trial right now. It's currently undergoing a handful of similar trials as a weight-loss drug and a type 2 diabetes treatment, some of which are phase 3 trials -- the final stage before seeking regulatory approval. The market's already familiar with this drug and its safety profile. The recent update of its efficacy as a once-monthly, low-dose injection simply bolsters the overall optimism surrounding this drug, ultimately acquired with Pfizer's 2025 acquisition of drugmaker Metsera.
In a similar vein, Pfizer's update on phase 2b testing of low monthly doses of berobenatide gives the company another chance to tout that it actually has 10 different trials of this drug in or entering phase 3 by the end of this year. Moreover, it's got more than 20 anti-obesity treatments currently in the works at various stages of development.
Connect the dots. Pfizer is positioning to compete with Lilly and Novo. And it will be able to do so, even if only a handful of these trials meet their phase 3 targets.
Much to think about, and far too much to simply ignore
Just keep your expectations in check. Multiple trials means multiple launches of the drug, each with a narrowly range of approved uses. Pfizer's obesity business will only build slowly and won't begin making major contributions to the top and bottom lines for at least a few years.
As CEO Albert Bourla commented in the company's recent Q1earnings conference call "Starting in 2029, we will enter a five-year period of high single-digit revenue CAGR," with much of its growth from that point on being driven by recent acquisitions like Matsera. The three years between now and then, however, are going to remain mostly unimpressive as the company continues to struggle with the sharp wind-down of its once-red-hot COVID-19 drug business.
The market has a funny way of predicting and reflecting those predictions in stock prices -- well in advance, though.
Whatever the case, even what's just moderately bullish for Pfizer is more bearish for Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk. Pfizer is introducing competition to the weight-loss drug market, which is already seeing slowing growth. If nothing else, the eventual launch of berobenatide will further erode the already-waning pricing power of Wegovy, Ozempic, and Zepbound. And Pfizer isn't the only outfit working on an alternative anti-obesity drug either.
Given that Lilly and Novo shares have been priced at a premium largely on the potential of their weight-loss drugs, Pfizer's update is an important reminder that nothing lasts forever. Shareholders of either company will most definitely want to keep close tabs on the ongoing development of berobenatide. It's a brewing problem, to be sure.

The clearance expands Sarclisa's use beyond relapsed settings, supported by Phase 3 IRAKLIA trial results which showed significant progression-free survival benefit. The decision expands Sarclisa's use into the frontline transplant-eligible setting, reinforcing its role in advancing treatment options for multiple myeloma.

Pfizer Inc. (PFE) announced that the FDA has approved HYMPAVZI for additional patient groups, including individuals aged 12 and older with hemophilia A or B who develop inhibitors, and children aged 6-11 with or without inhibitors.
Supported by Phase 3 BASIS trial data, the therapy demonstrated a 93% reduction in annualized bleeding rates and consistent safety. This marks the first subcutaneous non-factor therapy available for pediatric hemophilia B, reinforcing Pfizer's commitment to advancing rare disease care.

The product was previously manufactured by Teva under the brand name ISTODAX, but later withdrawn from the U.S. market. Amneal's relaunch brings the therapy back to market in a streamlined format.

Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Limited?(TEVA) completed the acquisition of Emalex Biosciences for $700 million in consideration, with the potential for up to an additional $200 million in commercial milestone payments, as well as other contingent payments.
The acquisition adds Ecopipam, an investigational asset in a Phase 3 trial for pediatric Tourette syndrome, to Teva's pipeline. NDA submission is expected in H2 2026.
TEVA closed Thursday's trade at $34.56, up 2.92%.
GSK plc (GSK) entered into an agreement to acquire Nuvalent, Inc (NUVL), which develops targeted cancer therapies, in a transaction valued at $10.6 billion (£8.0 billion) to bolster its oncology pipeline.
Under the terms, GSK will commence a tender offer to acquire all outstanding Nuvalent shares at $124 each in cash, and the transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of 2026, subject to regulatory conditions.
GSK closed Thursday's trade at $53.15, up 0.55%.

Johnson & Johnson To Acquire Firefly Bio For $1 Bln Cash Deal for Oncology Pipeline Expansion
Johnson & Johnson (JNJ)?entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Firefly Bio, Inc., including its proprietary Firelink degrader antibody conjugate (DAC) platform for KRAS-driven tumours, for $1 billion in cash and the transaction is expected to occur later this year, subject to approvals. The deal is expected to help JNJ expand its oncology portfolio.

Cartesian Therapeutics Inc. (RNAC) has inked a strategic licensing agreement with WestGene Biopharma Co., Ltd. to advance the development of novel in vivo chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapies in autoimmune diseases.
Cartesian's lead asset is Descartes-08, an autologous mRNA CAR-T targeting B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA).
In partnership with WestGene, Cartesian will conduct a Phase 1 dose-escalation study of the mRNA used in Descartes-08 delivered via WestGene's proprietary targeted lipid nanoparticles (tLNPs) in patients with generalized myasthenia gravis. This study is expected to be initiated in 2H 2026, with topline data anticipated in 1H 2027.

Galmed Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (GLMD) announced a definitive agreement to acquire Colospan Ltd., a commercial-stage medical device company focused on colorectal surgery. The acquisition includes Colospan's flagship product, CG-100, an intraluminal bypass device placed inside the bowel after colorectal surgery that allows waste to pass through it while protecting the stitched connection for healing.
CG-100 has the FDA BDD designation and is CE-marked, and Colospan is also conducting a pivotal U.S. clinical trial. Galmed plans to invest $6 million to launch the device in Europe during the second half of 2026, initially targeting Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) reported that its investigational immunoselective treatment?IMAAVY (nipocalimab-aahu) delivered a rapid and durable improvement in haemoglobin levels in patients with warm autoimmune hemolytic anaemia (wAIHA) from its Phase 2/3 ENERGY study. wAIHA has no FDA-approved treatments.
In the study, IMAAVY demonstrated a safety profile consistent with its safety profile in the approved indication of generalised myasthenia gravis, the company stated.

Humacyte, Inc. (HUMA), announced positive top-line interim results from the Phase 3 study, dubbed V012, evaluating the Acellular Tissue-Engineered Vessel (ATEV) in female patients undergoing dialysis access.
The trial met its primary endpoint, which is total days free from indwelling catheter until 365 days after access placement, or until access abandonment, whichever occurs first.
Notably, patients implanted with the ATEV had an average of 220 catheter-free days, compared with 129 for patients who received an AV fistula. In primary safety-related factors, patients receiving the ATEV experienced infections at a rate of 6?per 100 patient-years, compared with 23 per 100 patient-years in patients receiving the AV fistula procedure.

Eli Lilly and Company (LLY) announced additional positive results from pivotal Phase 3 trials dubbed the TRIUMPH-1 trial for adults with obesity and TRANSCEND-T2D-1 in adults with type 2 diabetes evaluating Retatrutide, an investigational GIP,?GLP-1, and glucagon triple-hormone receptor agonist.
In the trials, Retatrutide showed substantial weight loss along with meaningful improvements in knee osteoarthritis pain, moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea, and A1C reductions, as well as weight loss?in type 2 diabetes. The types of adverse events seen in the trials were generally consistent with those seen in trials of other incretin-based therapies, noted the firm.

In SYNCHRONIZE-1, Survodutide showed an average sustained weight loss of up to 16.6% compared with 3.2% in the placebo arm, along with a 34.0% relative reduction in fat loss.
In the SYNCHRONIZE-MASLD trial, Survodutide met its other co-primary endpoint with a relative reduction in body weight of up to 12.2% compared to 1.0% in the placebo arm, and 6 out of 10 patients (61.0%) achieved liver fat normalisation compared to 5.7% in the placebo arm.
Meanwhile, treatment discontinuation rates due to GI adverse events were 19% in the Survodutide arm compared with 2.9% in the placebo arm.

Eli Lilly and Company (LLY)?unveiled new?findings based on post-hoc analyses of more than 1,500 female participants in the ATTAIN-1 and ATTAIN-2 clinical trials that evaluated Foundayo, an oral GLP-1 therapy.
In the ATTAIN-1 study, women in perimenopause lost up to 30.4 lbs (14.4%), while those in postmenopause lost up to 28.2 lbs (14.1%). In ATTAIN-2, women taking Foundayo experienced significant weight loss across all stages of menopause, even when living with type 2 diabetes.

Which stock would I buy in 2026?
Finding a low-priced, development-stage biotech stock that explodes into a long-term 10-bagger on the success of a treatment that eventually reaches market is a dream for investors. Unfortunately, it usually stays that way: a dream that doesn’t become reality. Development-stage pharma companies often fail to get a blockbuster drug to market.
Lexicon Pharmaceuticals is not exactly development stage. It has one product on the market, INPEFA, for a once-a-day tablet for treating heart failure, but it generated just $1.1 million in sales in the first quarter of 2026. Most of the interest around Lexicon is for developmental drugs for chronic pain and cardiometabolic treatments. There are some positives in the trials, but it’s always worth keeping in mind that positive trials can still fail to bring a drug to market due to late regulatory rejections or a developer’s belief that the drug won’t find much market. Lexicon’s low stock price, which has traded between $1 and $2.50 since July 2025, indicates the speculative nature of the business.
Pfizer isn’t a hot growth stock, but it’s also one of the giants of the pharmaceutical industry. The company had a post-COVID letdown of sorts, as pandemic-related demand ebbed, but the business has been flexing its might this year. In its first quarter, Pfizer beat Wall Street analysts’ expectations on sales and net income. That is partly because Pfizer has been buying growth — it recently acquired oncology specialist Seagen and posted 20% growth in that business’s products. Prifzer is also allocating significant resources to new drug development, with 20 drug development starts scheduled for 2026 and eight data readouts expected, which report on the progress of treatments in development. After falling behind in the GLP-1 weight-loss drug market, Pfizer is also making strides toward becoming a competitor, with very positive Phase II (of III) trial results for an injectable GLP-1 reported earlier this year.
With more than $6 billion in cash, a forward price-to-earnings ratio of a bargain basement 8.7, and a tasty yield of 7% based on its recent price of $26, Pfizer is the choice for 2026.

Lexicon Pharmaceuticals vs. Pfizer: Which Drugmaker Stock Is a Better Buy in 2026?

Amgen AMGN is one of the several drug makers racing to develop an innovative weight-loss drug and take a share of the booming weight loss drug market. The global obesity drug market is projected to grow dramatically, reaching nearly $95 billion by 2030 and potentially $125 billion by 2035, according to Goldman Sachs estimates.
Amgen is developing MariTide, a GIPR/GLP-1 receptor, as a single dose in a convenient autoinjector device with a monthly and maybe less frequent dosing. This key feature differentiates it from Eli Lilly’s LLY and Novo Nordisk’s NVO popular GLP-1-based obesity drugs, Zepbound (tirzepatide) and Wegovy (semaglutide), respectively, which are weekly injections. A monthly therapy like MariTide may help reduce treatment burden for patients and improve persistence on treatment over time.
Amgen is evaluating MariTide in type II diabetes, obesity and obesity-related conditions as part of its comprehensive MARITIME phase III program. Amgen has nine global phase III studies underway with MariTide in obesity and other obesity-related conditions like obstructive sleep apnea, cardiovascular disease and heart failure. Three phase III studies of MariTide in type II diabetes will be initiated in 2026.
In clinical studies, it has shown predictable and sustained weight loss and a clinically meaningful impact on cardiometabolic parameters.
In phase II studies, MariTide resulted in up to approximately 20% average weight loss over 52 weeks without reaching a weight loss plateau in people who were obese or overweight but without type II diabetes. In patients with type II diabetes who were obese or overweight, the weight loss reduction was approximately 17% at 52 weeks.
An interesting study is a new phase III switch study that will assess patients transitioning from weekly tirzepatide or semaglutide therapy to MariTide administered once every eight weeks or once every 12 weeks. In other words, the study will evaluate switching from Zepbound and Wegovy injections given 52 times a year to a medicine that can be injected 4 or 6 times a year.
MariTide is by far Amgen's most important obesity asset. However, Amgen’s obesity pipeline also includes earlier-stage oral and injectable candidates like AMG 513 and AMG 786.
Can AMGN Take Share from LLY and NVO in the Obesity Space?
MariTide is a closely watched drug in the obesity market. However, with MariTide, Amgen is entering a market that is heavily dominated by Lilly and Novo Nordisk. LLY and NVO already have a massive first-mover advantage in the obesity space and enjoy strong brand recognition.
Moreover, to maintain their prowess in the lucrative obesity market, both Novo Nordisk and Lilly are developing several next-generation, more powerful and more convenient GLP-1–based treatments, including oral options and multi-acting candidates.
Lilly's next-generation candidate, retatrutide, has demonstrated approximately 28% weight loss in late-stage studies, significantly above MariTide's approximately 20%.
This will make it difficult for Amgen to capture rapid market share on a weight-loss efficacy basis, even with a differentiated product like MariTide. However, from another perspective, the obesity market is huge and can support multiple players, and even a modest market share could translate into billions of dollars in annual revenues. MariTide’s less frequent dosing is its biggest competitive advantage, and if successfully developed and launched, MariTide could become the preferred option for patients who value convenience and durable weight maintenance.
Competition Heating Up in the Obesity Space
While Lilly and Novo Nordisk currently dominate this space, smaller biotechs like Structure Therapeutics and Viking Therapeutics are also developing oral GLP-1 drugs for treating obesity.
Others, such as Roche, Merck, AbbVie, and, more recently, Pfizer PFE, have strengthened their obesity pipelines through licensing deals and acquisitions involving smaller biotechs. Pfizer has strengthened its obesity presence with last year’s licensing of YP05002 from YaoPharma and the acquisition of Metsera. AbbVie entered the obesity field by licensing GUB014295 from Gubra. Roche strengthened its obesity presence through the acquisition of Carmot Therapeutics and its obesity assets, such as CT-388, as well as the exclusive collaboration with Zealand Pharma.
AMGN’s Price Performance, Valuation and Estimates
Amgen’s stock has risen 5.3% so far this year compared with an increase of 4.0% for the industry.

From a valuation standpoint, Amgen is reasonably priced. Going by the price/earnings ratio, the company’s shares currently trade at 15.05 forward earnings, which is lower than 17.59 for the industry. The stock is also trading above its five-year mean of 13.81.

Can Amgen's MariTide Win Share in the Fast-Growing Obesity Market?

Pfizer PFE announced that the FDA has approved its anti-TFPI inhibitor Hympavzi (marstacimab) for the treatment of two additional hemophilia A or B patient populations. The latest approval now includes the treatment of hemophilia A or B in patients aged 12 years and above with inhibitors, as well as pediatric patients aged six to 11 years with or without inhibitors.
Following the latest FDA nod, HYMPAVZI is now approved in the United States for routine prophylaxis to prevent or reduce the frequency of bleeding episodes in adults and pediatric patients aged six years and older with hemophilia A with or without factor VIII inhibitors, or hemophilia B with or without factor IX inhibitors.
With this approval, Hympavzi has now become the first subcutaneous non-factor therapy available for treating pediatric patients with hemophilia B aged six to 11 years, addressing a significant medical need for the given patient population.
The European Commission recently approved Hympavzi for patients aged 12 years and older weighing at least 35 kg with hemophilia A (congenital factor VIII [FVIII] deficiency) FVIII inhibitors or hemophilia B (congenital factor IX [FIX] deficiency) FIX inhibitors.

More on Pfizer’s Hympavzi Label Expansion
The latest approval of Hympavzi for adolescents and adults aged 12 years and older with hemophilia A or B who have inhibitors was based on data from the phase III BASIS study.
The study showed that Hympavzi significantly reduced bleeding episodes, lowering the average annualized bleeding rate by 93% compared with on-demand intravenous treatment using bypassing agents.
Meanwhile, the approval for Hympavzi in children aged six to 17 years with hemophilia A or B, regardless of inhibitor status, was based on interim results from the phase III BASIS KIDS study.
In February 2026, the FDA accepted and granted Priority Review to the supplemental biologics license application (sBLA) seeking approval for Hympavzi for expanded use in the given patient population.
A rare genetic blood disorder, hemophilia is caused by a missing clotting protein (FVIII in case of hemophilia A and FIX in case of hemophilia B), which prevents normal blood clotting. If the blood does not clot properly, it can lead to painful bleeding inside the joints that can cause scarring and damage.
Hympavzi targets tissue factor pathway inhibitor (TFPI), which is a natural anticoagulation protein that functions to prevent the formation of blood clots.

PFE Gets FDA Nod for Expanded Use of Hemophilia Drug Hympavzi

Noteworthy Monday Option Activity: TGT, PLTR, PFE

(RTTNews) - Pfizer Inc. (PFE) announced that the U.S. FDA has approved HYMPAVZI for additional patient groups: individuals aged 12 and older with hemophilia A or B who develop inhibitors, and children aged 6-11 with or without inhibitors.
HYMPAVZI was first approved on October 11, 2024, for adults and adolescents (greater or equal to 12 years) with hemophilia A or B without inhibitors. The latest approval expands its use to younger pediatric patients and those with inhibitors, making it the first subcutaneous non-factor therapy available for children with hemophilia B.
Hemophilia is a rare genetic bleeding disorder affecting approximately 800,000 people worldwide. Inhibitors—antibodies that neutralize standard factor replacement therapies—pose a significant challenge, occurring in about 20% of hemophilia A and 3% of hemophilia B patients.
HYMPAVZI works by targeting tissue factor pathway inhibitor (TFPI), helping reduce bleeding episodes with a once-weekly subcutaneous injection that does not require routine lab monitoring.
The FDA's expanded approval was supported by data from the Phase 3 BASIS trial, which evaluated HYMPAVZI in patients with hemophilia A or B, both with or without inhibitors. Results showed a 93% reduction in annualized bleeding rates (ABR) compared to on-demand therapy, with efficacy consistent across adult and pediatric populations. Safety findings were in line with prior studies, with no new signals observed.
This HYMPAVZI application was reviewed under FDA Priority Review, and the agency also granted Breakthrough Therapy Designation for routine prophylaxis to prevent bleeding episodes in hemophilia A and B patients.
Aamir Malik, Chief U.S. Commercial Officer and Executive Vice President, Pfizer, stated: "This approval reflects Pfizer's more than 40-year commitment to advancing care and quality of life for people living with hemophilia."
Guy Young, M.D., Director, Hemostasis and Thrombosis Center at Children's Hospital, Los Angeles, added: "For children who have to deal with bleeding episodes from an early age and for people living with hemophilia who develop inhibitors, treatment options have been limited and are often burdensome. A treatment that can reduce bleeding with straightforward, once-weekly administration has the potential to fundamentally change how patients and caregivers approach this disease, offering control with a level of simplicity this community has long needed." PFE has traded between $23.08 and $28.75 over the past year. The stock closed Friday trading (June 5, 2026) at $26.04, up 1.36%. In pre-market trading, the stock is at $25.95, down 0.34%.

Pfizer: FDA Expands HYMPAVZI Approval To Pediatric And Inhibitor Hemophilia Patients

(RTTNews) - Pfizer, Inc. (PFE) announced Monday that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved an expanded indication for HYMPAVZI (marstacimab-hncq) to include the treatment of patients with hemophilia A or B 12 years and older with inhibitors and pediatric patients (ages 6 to 11 years) with or without inhibitors.
HYMPAVZI is now indicated in the U.S. for routine prophylaxis to prevent or reduce the frequency of bleeding episodes in adults and pediatric patients 6 years of age and older with hemophilia A with or without factor VIII inhibitors, or hemophilia B with or without factor IX inhibitors.
HYMPAVZI offers a combination of prophylactic bleed protection with a straightforward, once-weekly subcutaneous administration that does not require routine treatment-related lab monitoring.
Results from the Phase 3 BASIS trial (NCT03938792) supported the approval of HYMPAVZI in adults and adolescents 12 years and older with hemophilia A or B with inhibitors.
The results demonstrated the superiority of HYMPAVZI in improving key bleeding outcomes including significantly reducing mean treated annualized bleeding rate (ABR) by 93% compared to on-demand (OD) intravenous treatment with bypassing agents.
Meanwhile, interim results from the Phase 3 BASIS KIDS trial (NCT05611801) supported the approval of HYMPAVZI in children ages 6 to 17 years with hemophilia A or B with or without inhibitors.
