Brookfield Renewable is 100% clean

It also has a strong track record of success, with funds from operations growth averaging 8% over the past decade. Distributions increased 5% a year over that span. And the company's investment grade credit rating went up one notch along the way. Brookfield Renewable actively manages its portfolio, so there are always assets being bought and sold. However, the end result has been very impressive and should attract even more conservative investors.
The one wrinkle is that you can buy Brookfield Renewable in two different ways. The partnership share class offers a distribution yield of 5.2% while the corporate share class has a dividend yield of 3.8%. They represent the same business and have the same dividend payment; the difference is that the corporate shares are in higher demand among institutional investors. Small investors should feel comfortable with the partnership.
NextEra Energy is a giant in two businesses
NextEra Energy operates one of the largest regulated electric utilities in the United States. That is the foundation on which it has built one of the largest solar and wind power businesses in the world. This combination has led to 11% annualized dividend growth over the past decade. Half that rate of dividend growth would be considered good for a utility. NextEra Energy's dividend yield is 2.7%, which is actually above the utility average of nearly 2.5%.
In other words, you are getting an above-average yield and above-average dividend growth when you buy NextEra Energy. And given the ongoing shift toward cleaner energy sources, the company's long-term growth prospects seem just as rosy as ever. That said, management is calling for dividend growth to slow to a still very healthy 6% in 2027 and 2028.
TotalEnergies mixes the old with the new
TotalEnergies will be the hardest sell as a clean energy investment because it is an integrated energy giant. That means that it is a vertically integrated oil and natural gas business. If you only want clean energy, you probably won't want to buy TotalEnergies.
However, the company is unique among its peers in its commitment to investing its carbon profits into clean energy and electricity assets. In 2025, the company's integrated power division, which is where its clean energy assets live, accounted for roughly 12% of the company's business. The stock offers a way for investors to participate very directly in the transition process, noting that oil and natural gas are likely to remain important even as the the energy transition continues full speed ahead.
Add in TotalEnergies' 4.8% yield, and there's even more reason to like the stock. That said, U.S. investors have to pay French dividend taxes but can claim a portion back at tax time.
You can go all in on clean energy or hedge your bets
There is no single clean energy investment choice that will appease all investors. If you want to jump in with both feet, you'll probably like Brookfield Renewable. If you are a bit more conservative, NextEra Energy's utility business will probably help you sleep well at night. And if you recognize the benefits of carbon fuels and the opportunities of clean energy, TotalEnergies gives you exposure to both.

BlackBarn Capital Builds Warby Parker Stake as the Direct-to-Consumer Eyewear Leader Expands Nationwide

There's an energy crisis on the horizon, and it's mostly due to artificial intelligence (AI). The International Energy Agency (IEA) projects in its baseline model that energy consumption from data centers is set to double worldwide by the end of the decade.
In the U.S., data centers are set to consume between 6.7% and 12% of all energy produced by 2028, according to some stats. The MIT Technology Review reports that by the end of 2028, AI could consume the same amount of electricity as 22% of all American households combined.

What's the solution? Put simply, it's to generate more electricity, which is much easier said than done. However, the U.S. government and big tech companies seem to have arrived at the conclusion that nuclear energy is likely the best bet to solve the AI power crunch.
The U.S. Department of Energy has set a goal to triple America's nuclear energy production by the middle of the century. Tech companies, namely Microsoft and Alphabet, are investing serious money in resuscitating decommissioned nuclear power plants.
Each has collaborated with a nuclear plant operator, and those nuclear partners are worth a look.
Constellation Energy
Up first is Microsoft's partner: Baltimore-based Constellation Energy (NASDAQ: CEG).
Constellation is the country's largest producer of clean energy and produces 10% of America's emission-free power through its nuclear, hydroelectric, wind, and solar plants. It's also the largest nuclear energy producer in the U.S.
Therefore, Constellation is a natural partner for Microsoft, which agreed to a 20-year power purchase agreement with Constellation in 2024. According to the agreement, Constellation will bring one of the reactors at Three Mile Island back online as the new Crane Clean Energy Center.
The agreement, which will likely see Microsoft paying roughly $110-$115 per megawatt hour over the next 20 years, also came with a $1 billion loan from the government to bring the plant back online.
Facebook's parent company, Meta Platforms, signed a similar 20-year agreement shortly after the Microsoft deal to power its own data centers from Constellation's Clinton Clean Energy Center in Illinois.
As a power provider, Constellation is unlikely to experience explosive growth, but it's a stable, steady-growing stock that can add a less volatile investment to your AI portfolio. In its update provided to investors this week, Constellation reported adjusted operating earnings increased to $9.39 per share in 2025, up from $8.67 per share in 2024. The company in November said it is expecting 13% or better adjusted operating earnings growth through 2030.
Constellation pays a dividend that, due to the run-up in share price over the past few years, yields only 0.5%, but the company has grown its dividend for the past three years running. With a payout ratio of 17%, it should have no problem paying it and has plenty of room to continue growing it, especially as it takes advantage of AI's need for power.
Give Constellation a look for a slow and steady dividend payer to balance out faster-growth, higher-volatility AI plays.
NextEra Energy
Florida's NextEra Energy (NYSE: NEE) is another major player in America's nuclear landscape and also is set to continue profiting from government and big tech nuclear investments.
NextEra was tapped by Google parent company Alphabet to bring Iowa's Duane Arnold Energy Center, the state's only nuclear plant, back online. The deal will see Google purchase power from the facility for the next 25 years as it grows its cloud infrastructure in the area.
That makes three of the largest tech companies in America investing in nuclear energy production for their data centers. I expect more will follow.
On the financial end, NextEra recorded 13% adjusted EPS growth for 2025 over 2024. It expects to maintain an EPS compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 8% over the next decade.
The company operates with higher margins than Constellation, with a gross margin of 62%, an operating margin of 29%, and a net margin of 19.4%. It has also grown its dividend for 30 years running and currently yields 2.4%.
However, NextEra's payout ratio is much higher than Constellation's at 70%. It's not in particularly dangerous territory yet, and has been much higher in the past. In 2023, for example, it hit 94%.
Both of these stocks can help you add a stable dividend-paying hedge to your AI portfolio as the government and tech companies work to alleviate the AI power crisis and are poised to profit this year.

A steady, wealth-creating REIT
Realty Income is one of the world's largest real estate investment trusts (REITs). The company has delivered a 13.3% compound annual total return since its public market listing in 1994.
Two factors have contributed to the REIT's robust returns. It pays a high-yielding monthly dividend and steadily grows its adjusted funds from operations (AFFO) per share. This combination of income and growth really adds up over the long term.
Realty Income's dividend currently yields around 5%. Meanwhile, the REIT has one of the best financial profiles in the industry, which should enable it to continue growing its portfolio of high-quality income-producing real estate. It has also begun forming more strategic partnerships, which are enhancing its investment returns. It announced a deal in December with Alphabet's Google Cloud to build and power multiple new AI data centers. In addition, Google will help NextEra Energy modernize its digital systems so it can use AI more broadly across the company.
The company is increasing its investment in gas-fired power plants as it plans to deliver an additional 15 gigawatts of power to data centers by 2035, with 6 GW of that energy coming from gas, management said on the company's fourth-quarter earnings call. "I'll be disappointed if we don't double our goal and deliver at least 30 gigawatts through this channel," CEO John Ketchum said.
Full-year net income was $2.97 billion, up from $2.3 billion a year ago, and earnings per share was $1.44 versus $1.12 in 2024. Management is expecting compound annual growth of at least 8% through 2032, as well as 10% dividend growth for 2026, before slowing to 6% dividend growth through 2028.
Credo Technology
Data centers need power, but they also need wiring to bundle chips and ensure everything runs efficiently. For that, my pick is Credo Technology (NASDAQ: CRDO), which provides high-speed data connectivity in data centers, 5G products, and high-performance computing.
The company's best opportunity is its Active Electrical Cables (AECs) that are connectors that use signal processors to help move data quickly and more efficiently between chips and switches. By reducing signal degradation and power consumption, the AECs are superior to passive copper wiring when relaying high-speed data.
The company recently announced a deal with TensorWave, which is an AI cloud provider that works exclusively with chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices, to use Credo's AECs on TensorWave's next-generation AI cluster infrastructure.
Earnings for the second quarter of fiscal 2026 (ending Nov. 1, 2025) showed Credo's revenue of $268 million, up 272% from a year ago. Net income was $82.6 million versus a loss of $4.2 million a year ago. The company issued guidance for the fiscal third quarter of revenue in the range of $335 million to $345 million.
Why not buy both?
NextEra Energy is a regulated utility with a predictable growth window and a dividend to boot, while Credo provides a unique product that is critical to supplying the connectivity that allows GPUs to communicate efficiently. If the Rand projection of AI data center demand proves to be accurate, both of these stocks are thoughtful ways to invest in the AI build-out without buying chip stocks, giving investors some diversification to round out their AI portfolios.

Hydrogen power is an interesting solution to the power problems created by artificial intelligence (AI). Hydrogen is the single most common element in the universe, and it can be extracted from seawater through a process called electrolysis.
When run through a hydrogen fuel cell, the element generates electricity and the only emission, if you can even call it that, is water. And one of the leading companies in the hydrogen space is PlugPower (NASDAQ: PLUG).

But is it the energy stock to add to your portfolio today?
Real potential, or just hot air?
PlugPower is committed to building out the world's hydrogen infrastructure in the form of creating hydrogen fuel with electrolyzers, transporting that fuel, and generating electricity with it at hydrogen power plants.
In all, PlugPower has deployed 230 megawatts worth of its GenEco Electrolyzer across Europe, Australia, Canada, South America, and the United States. It also operates three hydrogen power plants in the U.S. with a fourth one planned.
The company supplies 45 tons of hydrogen daily to dozens of top companies like Amazon, The Home Depot, and General Motors.
And while the company is growing -- revenue was up 13% year over year for Q3 2025 (its most recent reported quarter) -- it's not growing fast enough to make up for its deep losses. For the first nine months of 2025, Plug Power's operating loss was $704.1 million.
PlugPower also holds $991.4 million in debt to $165.9 million in cash, which is less than ideal.
So, while hydrogen has potential, there's another energy source that's already generating vast amounts of carbon-free energy.
The nuclear option
Nuclear power has seen serious interest from both the government and big tech companies as a promising option for AI's hunger for electricity.
That's why NextEra Energy (NYSE: NEE) is the far better way to play green energy.
NextEra doesn't solely generate green power, but it is a major nuclear plant operator and America's largest electric utility. It powers the homes of 12 million people across Florida.
It, along with another major nuclear plant operator, Constellation Energy, are working with big tech companies to bring nuclear plants back online to power AI data centers.
NextEra has partnered with Alphabet to resurrect Iowa's Duane Arnold nuclear power plant. Once the plant is operational (which NextEra projects for Q1 2029) Alphabet will purchase power from NextEra for the next quarter-century.
But even before that deal, NextEra was doing great. Net income for 2025 totaled $2.97 billion, up 29.4% over 2024 and earnings per share (EPS) for the year grew 28.5%. And the company is projecting an EPS compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 8% through 2035.
NextEra's debt is $95.6 billion -- still rather high relative to its cash reserves of $2.8 billion but unlike Plug Power, it is profitable with a net margin of 19.4%. But the real reason you'd hold NextEra is its dividend, which it has raised for 31 years in a row.
At present it yields 2.4% and while its payout ratio is a little high at 70.3% it has been higher in the past while the company kept its dividend growth streak going. So I'm not particularly concerned about it.
So, while hydrogen has potential, nuclear seems to be the preferred option right now. Invest accordingly.

Better Energy Stock: PlugPower vs. NextEra Energy

(RTTNews) - NextEra Energy, Inc. (NEE), on Thursday announced plans to sell $2 billion of equity units in a public offering and expects to grant underwriters an option to purchase up to an additional $0.30 billion of equity units to cover over-allotments.
The offering includes each $50 equity unit, which will consist of a forward contract to purchase NextEra Energy, Inc. stock and undivided beneficial ownership interests in two debentures issued by NextEra Energy Capital.
The company said that the net proceeds will be added to the general funds of NextEra Energy Capital Holdings, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary, to fund investments in energy and power projects and for general corporate purposes, including repayment of a portion of outstanding commercial paper obligations.
The debentures include a Series P Debenture due February 15, 2031, and a Series Q Debenture due February 15, 2034, each with a principal amount of $1,000.
Equity unit holders will be required to purchase stock by no later than February 15, 2029, at a price reflecting a 0% to 25% premium to the February 26 closing price, with the final purchase price based on the average closing price over the 20 consecutive trading days ending February 12, 2029.
NextEra Energy closed the regular trading session on February 27, 2026, at $91.99, down $3.12 or 3.28%. Later, in overnight trading, the share price rose to $92.61, gaining $0.62 or 0.67%, as of 12:45 AM EST.

NextEra Energy Plans $2 Bln Equity Units Offering

(RTTNews) - NextEra Energy, Inc. (NEE), Thursday announced its decision to sell $2.00 billion of equity units in a public offering.
The company intends to add the proceeds to the general funds of its subsidiary, NextEra Energy Capital Holdings, Inc., which will utilize the funds to finance investments in energy and power projects and for other general corporate purposes, including the repayment of a portion of its outstanding commercial paper obligations.
Notably, each equity unit will be issued in a stated amount of $50 with a contract to purchase NextEra Energy common stock in approximately three years.
Also, the company plans to grant to the underwriters an option to purchase up to an additional $0.30 billion of equity units solely for the purpose of covering over-allotments.
In the pre-market hours, NEE is trading at $93.80, down 1.38 percent on the New York Stock Exchange.

Pinnacle West Capital Corporation PNW reported fourth-quarter 2025 earnings of 13 cents per share, which beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 5 cents by 160%. The bottom line also improved substantially from a loss of 6 cents reported in the year-ago quarter.

Sales for the quarter totaled $1.13 billion, which surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $1.12 billion by 0.5%. The top line also increased 3% from $1.09 billion recorded in the year-ago quarter.

PNW’s Operational Highlights
Total operating expenses were $1.01 billion, down 0.4% year over year. This was due to lower operations and maintenance expenses.
Operating income totaled $121 million, up 43.2% from $84.5 million recorded in the year-ago quarter.
Total interest expenses were $126.1 million, up 17.7% from $107.1 million registered in the prior-year period.
PNW’s Financial Highlights
As of Dec. 31, 2025, cash and cash equivalents totaled $6.6 million compared with $3.8 million as of Dec. 31, 2024.
Long-term debt-less current maturities amounted to $9.20 billion as of Dec. 31, 2025, compared with $8.06 billion as of Dec. 31, 2024.
Net cash flow provided by operating activities in 2025 totaled $1.8 billion compared with $1.6 billion in the year-ago period.
PNW’s Guidance
Pinnacle West reiterated its 2026 consolidated earnings to the range of $4.55-$4.75 per share. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for the same is pegged at $4.69 per share, which is within the company’s guided range.
The company expects its 2026 revenues in the range of $5.56-$5.66 billion.
Management now expects its retail customers to increase 1.5-2.5% in 2026.
Pinnacle West plans to invest $7.95 billion in the 2026-2028 period to further strengthen its operations.
The company expects long-term earnings per share to be in the range of 5-7% from the 2024 earnings base.

NextEra Energy, Inc. NEE reported fourth-quarter 2025 adjusted earnings of 54 cents per share, which beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 53 cents by 1.9%. The bottom line was also up 1.9% year over year.
In the fourth quarter, NextEra Energy’s operating revenues were $6.5 billion, which missed the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $6.52 billion by 0.33%. However, the top line improved 20.7% year over year.
Dominion Energy D reported fourth-quarter 2025 operating earnings of 68 cents per share, which beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 64 cents by 6.3%. The bottom line increased 17.2% from the year-ago quarter's level.
Dominion Energy’s fourth-quarter revenues of $4.09 billion beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $3.56 billion by 14.9%. The top line increased 20.4% from $3.4 billion in the year-ago quarter.
WEC Energy Group WEC reported fourth-quarter 2025 earnings of $1.42 per share, which beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $1.38 by 2.9%. The bottom line was missed by a penny, which has decreased 0.7% from the year-ago quarter’s $1.43.
WEC’s operating revenues of $2.54 billion surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $2.45 billion by around 3.7%. The top line also increased 11% from $2.28 billion recorded in the year-ago quarter.
