The University of Michigan's US Mar 1-year inflation expectations were unchanged from Feb at 3.4%, below expectations of a rise to 3.7%. The Mar 5-10 year inflation expectations unexpectedly fell to 3.2% from 3.3% in Feb, weaker than expectations of an increase to 3.4%.
US Jan JOLTS job openings rose +396,000 to 6.946 million, stronger than expectations of 6.750 million.
Q4 earnings season is nearly over, with more than 98% of the S&P 500 companies having reported earnings results. Earnings have been a positive factor for stocks, with 74% of the 495 S&P 500 companies that have reported beating expectations. According to Bloomberg Intelligence, S&P earnings growth is expected to climb by +8.4% in Q4, marking the tenth consecutive quarter of year-over-year growth. Excluding the Magnificent Seven megacap technology stocks, Q4 earnings are expected to increase by +4.6%.
The markets are discounting a 1% chance for a -25 bp FOMC rate cut at the next policy meeting on March 17-18.

Also, Apple (AAPL) closed down more than -2%, and Microsoft (MSFT) and Nvidia (NVDA) closed down more than -1%. In addition, Tesla (TSLA) closed down -0.96%. Amazon.com (AMZN) closed down -0.89% and Alphabet (GOOGL) closed down -0.42%.
Chip stocks and AI-infrastructure companies moved higher on Friday, a supportive factor for the broader market. Sandisk (SNDK) closed up more than +6% to lead gainers in the S&P 500, and Micron Technology (MU) closed up more than +4% to lead gainers in the Nasdaq 100. Q4 earnings season is nearly over, with more than 98% of the S&P 500 companies having reported earnings results. Earnings have been a positive factor for stocks, with 74% of the 495 S&P 500 companies that have reported beating expectations. According to Bloomberg Intelligence, S&P earnings growth is expected to climb by +8.4% in Q4, marking the tenth consecutive quarter of year-over-year growth. Excluding the Magnificent Seven megacap technology stocks, Q4 earnings are expected to increase by +4.6%.
The markets are discounting a 0% chance for a -25 bp FOMC rate cut at the next policy meeting on March 17-18.
Overseas stock markets are mixed. The Euro Stoxx 50 is up +0.33%. China's Shanghai Composite closed down -0.82%. Japan's Nikkei Stock 225 closed down -1.16%.
Interest Rates
June 10-year T-notes (ZNM6) today are up by +7 ticks. The 10-year T-note yield is down -1.6 bp to 4.245%. June T-notes are moving higher today, and the 10-year T-note yield fell from a 5-week high of 4.279%. Today’s 2% decline in WTI crude oil prices has lowered inflation expectations and is bullish for T-notes. Also, today’s US economic news, which showed Q4 GDP revised lower and Jan capital goods new orders climbing less than expected, was supportive of T-notes.
European government bond yields moved higher on Thursday. The 10-year German bund yield fell from a 2.25-year high of 2.992% and is down -1.0 bp to 2.947%. The 10-year UK gilt yield fell from a 6.25-month high of 4.812% and is down -1.2 bp to 4.761%.
UK Jan GDP was unchanged m/m, weaker than expectations of +0.2% m/m.
UK Jan manufacturing production rose +0.1% m/m, weaker than expectations of +0.2% m/m.
Swaps are discounting a 3% chance of a -25 bp ECB rate hike at its next policy meeting on March 19.
US Stock Movers
Chip stocks and AI-infrastructure companies are moving higher today, a supportive factor for the broader market. Western Digital (WDC) is up more than +4%, and Micron Technology (MU) is up more than +3%. Also, Intel (INTC), Seagate Technology Holdings Plc (STX), Lam Research (LRCX), and Applied Materials (AMAT) are up more than +2%. In addition, ARM Holdings Plc (ARM), Microchip Technology (MCHP), NXP Semiconductors NV (NXPI), Qualcomm (QCOM), and Texas Instruments (TXN) are up more than +1%.
Cryptocurrency-exposed stocks are climbing today, with Bitcoin (^BTCUSD) up more than +3% at a 1-week high. Galaxy Digital Holdings (GLXY) is up more than +6%, and MARA Holdings (MARA) and Riot Platforms (RIOT) are up more than +5%. Also, Strategy (MSTR) is up more than +4%, and Coinbase Global (COIN) is up more than +3%.
Fertilizer stocks are retreating today, giving back some of this week’s sharp gains. Intrepid Potash (IPI) is down more than -7%, CF Industries Holdings (CF) is down more than -5%, and Mosaic (MOS) is down more than -3%.
Klarna Group Plc (KLAR) is up more than +9% after an SEC filing showed Chairman Morits purchased 3.47 million shares through an associated entity between March 3 and March 11.
Circle Internet Group (CRCL) is up more than +4% after Mizuho Securities raised its price target on the stock to $120 from $100.
Karman Holdings (KRMN) is up more than +3% after Needham & Co issued a buy recommendation on the stock with a price target of $125.
Knight-Swift Transportation Holdings (KNX) is up more than +2% after Citigroup upgraded the stock to buy from neutral with a price target of $64.
Celanese (CE) is up more than +1% after Wells Fargo Securities upgraded the stock to overweight from equal weight with a price target of $70.
Air Products and Chemicals (APD) is up more than +1% after Wells Fargo Securities upgraded the stock to overweight from equal weight with a price target of $325.
EverCommerce (EVCM) is down more than -18% after forecasting Q1 revenue of $145.5 million to $148.5 million, well below the consensus of $151 million.
Ulta Beauty (ULTA) is down more than -9% to lead losers in the S&P 500 after it forecast full-year comparable sales will increase 2.5% to 3.5%, below the consensus of 3.5%.
Adobe (ADBE) is down more than -4% to lead losers in the Nasdaq 100 after CEO Narayen said he will resign and remain in his post until a successor has been appointed.
Meta Platforms (META) is down more than -2% after the New York Times reported that the company’s latest AI model has underperformed expectations and will be delayed.
ServiceTitan (TTAN) is down more than -2% after reporting a Q4 EPS loss of -44 cents, wider than the consensus of -41 cents.

Stocks Retreat From Initial Highs as Oil Prices Rebound

In early trading on Friday, shares of Western Digital topped the list of the day's best performing components of the Nasdaq 100 index, trading up 5.4%. Year to date, Western Digital registers a 59.8% gain.
And the worst performing Nasdaq 100 component thus far on the day is Adobe, trading down 5.6%. Adobe is lower by about 27.3% looking at the year to date performance.
Two other components making moves today are Meta Platforms, trading down 2.8%, and Strategy, trading up 4.4% on the day.

Between Bitcoin and Strategy, what is the better investment for 2026 and beyond?
Staying true to Bitcoin principles
Bitcoin was created to function as a monetary network and digital asset that operates independently from the traditional financial system. As a result of this setup, the cryptocurrency's biggest proponents argue that the best action to take is to buy Bitcoin directly and transfer it to a self-custody hardware wallet that's in cold storage. That means that you have complete control over the private keys, there is no counterparty risk, and everything is offline, boosting security.
This is like having physical dollars or gold in your possession. No one else has control or a claim on those things. If this is important to you, then it's best to adopt this Bitcoin playbook.
By choosing this path, people can also take advantage of Bitcoin's utility. It can be transferred to anyone in the world without an intermediary. It can also be used to pay for goods and services at merchants that accept it. According to BTC Map, there were 22,248 of these businesses globally at the end of 2025, up from 12,751 exactly 12 months before.
At the end of the day, however, it's obviously a requirement that you must be bullish on Bitcoin's potential over the long term. It has a fixed supply, is digital, and isn't controlled by a single entity. These traits all make it an attractive investment opportunity.
Strategy provides levered exposure
About five years ago, Strategy became a Bitcoin treasury company. Its operations rest on continuously raising capital from equity and fixed income markets to accumulate Bitcoin. According to research from The Motley Fool, Strategy is the single largest corporate holder of Bitcoin on the face of the planet. As of early March, it had almost 721,000 Bitcoin units on the balance sheet.
Investors in regular companies hope that earnings per share increase over time. For Strategy, Bitcoin per share is a key performance indicator. The goal is for this figure to rise.
The number was up 74.3% in 2024 before growing 22.8% last year. Consequently, investors who buy 100 shares of Strategy hope that in five years, those same 100 shares represent a larger Bitcoin stack. This is a levered Bitcoin play, as investors can increase their holdings of the crypto by doing nothing if Strategy executes properly. Just know that you don't directly own Bitcoin.
On the other hand, let's say you spend $10,000 to buy 0.14 Bitcoin (at the price of $69,000 on March 6). In five years, you will still own the same 0.14 Bitcoin, assuming no other purchases or sales were made.
In the past five years, this stock has climbed 115% (as of March 6), more than Bitcoin's 30% gain. Both the upside and downside are amplified, though, increasing volatility for investors. Those who have a higher risk tolerance and who are seeking higher returns will choose Strategy.
Combining Bitcoin and Strategy
I don't see an issue with owning both of these assets as part of a diversified portfolio, especially for those bullish on both the top crypto's long-term prospects and its ability to further penetrate capital markets. Investors can choose to hold Bitcoin in cold storage. They can also have a tiny sliver allocated to Strategy shares, with appropriate sizing to handle the risk and volatility.

Patiently waiting on a Bitcoin resurgence
According to research from The Motley Fool, Strategy is the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin. After more purchases, as of March 9, it had just under 721,000 units of the top cryptocurrency on its balance sheet, translating to $50.9 billion at the current market price. Consequently, it's no surprise that in order for Strategy's stock to perform well, the leading digital asset must get out of its funk.
Bitcoin currently trades 45% off its record, which was established about five months ago in October of last year. The positive view on the situation is that this digital asset has always bounced back to reach higher record prices. There's no doubt that should Bitcoin climb throughout 2026, Strategy will make for a winning investment.
Consider that in the five-year period leading up to its peak in October, Bitcoin's price was up 1,060%. During that same time period, Strategy jumped 2,300%. The company's use of equity and debt capital to acquire more Bitcoin in value-accretive ways makes the stock a high-risk and high-reward way to bet on Bitcoin.
Bitcoin is really the only factor that impacts Strategy's share price. That's because the business kicked off its transition to becoming a Bitcoin treasury company in August 2020, when it purchased $250 million of the cryptocurrency as a hedge against the extraordinary level of money printing that was happening by the U.S. government after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. There's no end to the Strategy's plan of Bitcoin accumulation.
In the near term, Bitcoin, and Strategy as a result, could be lifted by looser monetary policy. If the Fed starts to lower interest rates again, while also embarking on more aggressive quantitative easing, it can drive investors toward riskier assets.
Expect the volatility to continue
Strategy's 52-week high is 339% above its 52-week low. For comparison's sake, a business with stable operations like Berkshire Hathaway has a more muted difference of 19%.
Strategy's striking variability reveals the volatility that shareholders have to deal with. This is something that isn't going to abate anytime soon. And it's a key part of the decision-making process that investors can't ignore.

1 Thing That Could Send Strategy Stock Soaring in 2026

The S&P 500 Index ($SPX) (SPY) on Tuesday fell -0.21%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average ($DOWI) (DIA) fell -0.07%, and the Nasdaq 100 Index ($IUXX) (QQQ) fell -0.04%. March E-mini S&P futures (ESH26) fell -0.11%, and March E-mini Nasdaq futures (NQH26) rose +0.08%.
Bearish factors for stocks included Tuesday’s rise of more than +5 bp in the 10-year T-note yield and continued jitters about the war in Iran. The Pentagon said the US military conducted its most intensive day of bombing yet on Tuesday. Also, the largest refinery in the UAE was forced to close due to a drone attack, and there was a report of an explosion involving a tanker near the UAE.

Stocks had underlying support from Tuesday’s -12% plunge in oil prices, which was positive for the US economy and dovish for Fed policy. Stocks also received support from the stronger-than-expected US Feb existing home sales report, which rose +1.7% m/m to 4.09 million, versus expectations of a decline to 3.88 million.
WTI oil prices on Tuesday fell sharply by -12% on President Trump’s insistence that the Iran war will be over very soon, and as plans are being laid for a possible G-7 release of oil stockpiles. G-7 finance ministers said on Monday that the G-7 nations stand ready to release oil stockpiles if needed. G-7 energy ministers met Tuesday at the International Energy Agency in Paris, where they discussed a coordinated release of G-7 oil stockpiles.
President Trump said on Monday that the Iran war is “pretty much” over. At a press conference Monday evening, President Trump was asked when the war would end, and he answered, “I think soon, very soon.”
Crude oil prices also fell on Tuesday after US Energy Secretary Chris Wright posted on social media that the US Navy had escorted a tanker through the Strait of Hormuz, raising market hopes that the US military was beginning an escort mission to reopen the Strait. However, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said later on Tuesday that the Wright post was erroneous and that the US Navy did not escort a tanker through the Strait. That denial caused oil prices to rise from the daily lows.
Iran has shown no signs of backing down, despite the withering air campaign launched by Israel and the US. Iran's Assembly of Experts over the weekend appointed hardliner Mojtaba Khamenei as Iran's new supreme leader, the son of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran's new leader has close ties to Iran's powerful and entrenched Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). President Trump said he is "not happy" with the choice of the new leader.

The 10-year T-note yield rose amid soft demand at the 3-year T-note auction and confirmation that the US Navy did not escort a tanker through the Strait of Hormuz, which dashed hopes that the US Navy was beginning a program to reopen the Strait and boosted safe-haven demand.
Also, the 10-year breakeven inflation expectations rate on Tuesday rose by +1.8 bp to 2.347% despite the plunge in oil prices. The stronger-than-expected US existing home sales report also pushed the T-note yield higher.
Treasury supply pressures are a bearish factor this week, with the Treasury due to sell 10-year T-notes on Wednesday and 30-year bonds on Thursday.
European government bond yields closed lower. The 10-year German bund yield fell -2.2 bp to 2.836%. The 10-year UK gilt yield fell -9.3 bp to 4.554%.
Swaps are discounting a 1% chance of a -25 bp ECB rate hike at its next policy meeting on March 19.
US Stock Movers
The Magnificent Seven technology stocks all closed higher except for Microsoft. The largest gainers were Nvidia (NVDA) and Meta Platforms (META), with gains of more than +1%.
Chip stocks closed mostly higher, supporting the Nasdaq 100 index. Micron Technology (MU) rose more than +3%. Intel (INTC), Arm Holdings (ARM), and Applied Materials (AMAT) rose by more than +2%.
Oil stocks closed mostly lower due to the plunge in oil prices. Occidental Petroleum (OXY) fell more than -3%. Devon Energy (DVN), ConocoPhillips (COP), and Diamondback Energy (FANG)
fell more than -2%.
Hewlett-Packard Enterprise (HPE) fell by -3.4% after reporting slightly weaker-than-expected revenue, although other results beat expectations.
AT&T (T) rose +0.5% after saying it will spend more than $250 billion over the next five years to expand its telecom network infrastructure in the US, more than doubling its recent capital investment.
Casey’s General Stores (CASY) rose +3.7% despite reporting disappointing revenue for fiscal Q3.
Strive Inc (ASST) rose more than +5%, while Strategy Inc (MSTR) fell -0.5%, after B. Riley Securities initiated coverage of the Bitcoin treasury companies with buy ratings.

Stocks End Slightly Lower as T-note Yields Rise

However, bearish factors for stocks include today’s +1.0 bp rise in the 10-year T-note yield and new Iranian attacks in the Persian Gulf. Also, the Pentagon said the US military is today conducting its most intensive day of bombing yet.
An Iranian drone attack today caused the biggest refinery in the UAE at the Ruwais Industrial Complex to halt operations due to a fire in the complex. Also, Iran’s semi-official Mehr news agency reported an explosion today involving a tanker near Abu Dhabi, but no further details were available.
Despite those disruptions, April WTI crude oil futures prices are down -11% today, erasing part of the sharp rally seen in the past 1-1/2 weeks. Oil prices on Monday spiked to a high of $119.48 after Israel over the weekend bombed 30 Iranian fuel depots. However, WTI oil prices have since fallen to the $84-per-barrel area after President Trump said on Monday that the Iran war is “pretty much” over, and after G-7 finance ministers said on Monday that the G-7 nations stand ready to release oil stockpiles if needed. At a press conference Monday evening, President Trump was asked when the war would end, and he answered, “I think soon, very soon.”

Also, the T-note yield saw upward pressure from the stronger-than-expected US existing home sales report.
European government bond yields are lower. The 10-year German bund yield is down -2.1 bp at 2.838%. The 10-year UK gilt yield is down -9.4 bp at 4.553%.
Swaps are discounting a 2% chance of a -25 bp rate hike by the ECB at its next policy meeting on March 19.
US Stock Movers
The Magnificent Seven technology stocks are trading mostly higher, led by gains of more than +1% in Nvidia (NVDA), Meta Platforms (META), and Tesla (TSLA).
Chip stocks are trading higher almost across the board, supporting the Nasdaq 100 index. Micron Technology (MU) is up more than +6%. Intel (INTC)is up more than +4%. Applied Materials (AMAT) and Lam Research (LRCX) are up more than +3%.
Oil stocks are trading mostly lower due to today’s sharp decline in oil prices. Occidental Petroleum (OXY) is down about -3%. ConocoPhillips (COP) is down about -0.8%.
Hewlett-Packard Enterprise (HPE) is up +0.4% after reporting slightly weaker-than-expected revenue, although other results beat expectations.
AT&T (T) is up +0.7% after saying it will spend more than $250 billion over the next five years to expand its telecom network infrastructure in the US, more than doubling its recent capital investment.
Casey’s General Stores (CASY) is up +1.8% despite reporting disappointing revenue for fiscal Q3.
Strive Inc (ASST) is up more than +5%, and Strategy Inc (MSTR) is up more than +1%, after B. Riley Securities initiated coverage of the Bitcoin treasury companies with buy ratings.

Stocks Move Higher as Oil Prices Plunge

The S&P 500 Index ($SPX) (SPY) is down -0.04%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average ($DOWI) (DIA) is down -0.13%, and the Nasdaq 100 Index ($IUXX) (QQQ) is up +0.13%. March E-mini S&P futures (ESH26) are down -0.16%, and March E-mini Nasdaq futures (NQH26) are up +0.13%.
Stocks are being pressured today by fresh disruptions in the Persian Gulf that raised doubts about President Trump’s comment yesterday evening that the Iran war could end “very soon.” In addition, the Pentagon said the US military is today conducting its most intensive day of bombing yet. Stocks are also being undercut by today’s +1.7 bp rise in the 10-year T-note yield.

An Iranian drone attack today caused the biggest refinery in the UAE at the Ruwais Industrial Complex to halt operations due to a fire in the complex. Also, Iran’s semi-official Mehr news agency reported an explosion today involving a tanker near Abu Dhabi, but no further details were available.
Despite those disruptions, April WTI crude oil futures prices are down -7% today, erasing part of the sharp rally seen in the past 1-1/2 weeks. Oil prices on Monday spiked to a high of $119.48 after Israel over the weekend bombed 30 Iranian fuel depots. However, WTI oil prices have since fallen to the $ 85-per-barrel area after President Trump said on Monday that the Iran war is “pretty much” over, and after G-7 finance ministers said on Monday that the G-7 nations stand ready to release oil stockpiles if needed. At a press conference Monday evening, President Trump was asked when the war would end, and he answered, “I think soon, very soon.”
G-7 energy ministers are meeting today beginning at 1:45pm local time (8:45 am Eastern) at the International Energy Agency in Paris, with most ministers joining remotely, according to French Finance Minister Roland Lescure. Mr. Lescure said today, “We are gathering the G-7 energy ministers today here in Paris; we are going through the process but obviously all options are on the table,” including an emergency oil stock release. He added, “We are ready.”
Iran has shown no signs of backing down, despite the withering air campaign launched by Israel and the US. Iran's Assembly of Experts over the weekend appointed hardliner Mojtaba Khamenei as Iran's new supreme leader, the son of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran's new leader has close ties to Iran's powerful and entrenched Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). President Trump said he is "not happy" with the choice of the new leader.
US Feb existing home sales rose by +1.7% m/m to 4.09 million, stronger than expectations for a decline to 3.88 million.
Q4 earnings season is nearly over, with more than 95% of the S&P 500 companies having reported earnings results. Earnings have been a positive factor for stocks, with 74% of the 492 S&P 500 companies that have reported beating expectations. According to Bloomberg Intelligence, S&P earnings growth is expected to climb by +8.4% in Q4, marking the tenth consecutive quarter of year-over-year growth. Excluding the Magnificent Seven megacap technology stocks, Q4 earnings are expected to increase by +4.6%.
The markets are discounting a 0% chance for a -25 bp rate cut at the next policy meeting on March 17-18.
Overseas stock markets are higher today, supported by Monday afternoon’s recovery in US stocks. The Euro Stoxx 50 is up +2.20%, following Monday’s -0.61% loss. China's Shanghai Composite today closed up +0.65%. Japan's Nikkei Stock 225 closed up +2.88%, recovering part of Monday’s sharp -5.2% loss.
