The company was incorporated in 1989 and is headquartered in Tysons Corner, Virginia.

Why is Bitcoin considered a safe-haven asset?
Bitcoin is mined using the energy-intensive proof-of-work (PoW) consensus mechanism. Its miners use powerful computer chips to solve cryptographic puzzles and earn the tokens as rewards. More than 20 million of its maximum supply of 21 million tokens have already been mined, and it becomes increasingly difficult to mine every four years with a scheduled "halving" that cuts its mining rewards in half. Its most recent halving occurred in 2024.

That scarcity makes Bitcoin more comparable to gold than other cryptocurrencies. A growing number of institutional, corporate, and government investors are buying it as a hedge against inflation and expansionary monetary policies that devalue fiat currencies. The SEC also approved Bitcoin's first spot price ETFs in 2024, making it easier for retail and institutional investors to invest in the cryptocurrency without using crypto wallets.
But is Bitcoin the "safest" crypto to own right now?
As the world's most widely adopted cryptocurrency, Bitcoin is considered more stable than smaller altcoins. However, it's still declined alongside the broader crypto market over the past year, as macro headwinds drove investors toward more conservative investments. It also underperformed gold, which rallied more than 20% over the past 12 months.
Bitcoin's inability to keep pace with gold suggests that investors still consider it a speculative investment rather than a safe haven one. Nevertheless, Bitcoin maximalists like Strategy's (NASDAQ: MSTR) Michael Saylor -- who directed his company to become the world's largest corporate holder of Bitcoin -- expect it to soar much higher over the long term.
Saylor expects Bitcoin's price to rise from about $64,000 today to $21 million by 2046. Ark Invest's Cathie Wood expects its price to reach $1.25 million within the next five years.
We should take those rosy estimates with a grain of salt, but they suggest that institutional investors could ramp up their Bitcoin purchases as the U.S. dollar declines. It also might have a brighter future than smaller cryptocurrencies that can't be valued by their scarcity.
I wouldn't call Bitcoin a safe investment in this wobbly market. But it's still the safest blue chip token you can buy today -- as long as you can stomach a lot of near-term volatility.

Is Bitcoin the Safest Crypto to Own Right Now?

Some of that liquidity will probably be sourced from the crypto sector.
That means assets are going to continue to be sold off.
SpaceX (NASDAQ: SPCX) makes its debut this week on the Nasdaq exchange in the biggest initial public offering (IPO) on record, with a $75 billion sale valuing the company near $1.75 trillion at its Friday morning debut. For many investors, including those representing major financial institutions, raising that much capital means selling something, and their holdings in the crypto market are likely on the chopping block. For instance, Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) has shed about half its value since October 2025.
The conventional wisdom says that big listings of highly hyped companies inevitably drain cash from speculative assets, especially ones that have recently underperformed, with cryptocurrency being the most obvious donor. But where will crypto prices go once the SpaceX rocket clears the pad?

How the listing is expected to be a headwind for crypto
Because crypto markets operate 24/7, they are often considered the market's ATM. Assets can sell for dollars in seconds, and then be redeployed elsewhere on faster timetables than what might be possible with money transfers into brokerage accounts.
The strain is already showing, with Bitcoin's 21% drop over the last 30 days. Spencer Hallarn, global head of over-the-counter trading at GSR, a crypto trading group, said that crypto was acting as a "funding currency" for the IPO wave. Even Strategy, the biggest and most vocal corporate Bitcoin bull, trimmed its stack for the first time since 2022. That put a dent in the already-terrible sentiment about the coin's near-term prospects, which could have encouraged more investors to rotate their capital out, even if everyone knows Strategy itself won't be buying into any IPOs.
On that note, it's important to recognize that SpaceX is only the opening act of this huge IPO season, which will put further pressure on crypto capital. Listings from OpenAI and Anthropic will probably occur within months. For anyone weighing crypto against hot tech stocks, this is probably going to be a multi-quarter drag for the digital coins rather than a passing squall.
Will any of the money come back?
Now that the SpaceX IPO is in the books, some of its early backers will likely seek to cash out their profits. It's feasible that a sliver of that sum could rotate back into majors like Bitcoin or Ethereum. That reallocation has rescued crypto in the past, and given that the sector is currently in a bear market, there are certainly some attractive valuations available.
But investors absolutely should not count on any big capital rotation back into crypto. As an asset class, it's deeply out of favor, and freshly freed-up cash could just as easily chase the next artificial intelligence listing or buy semiconductor stocks to get even more exposure to speculative upside.
Therefore, don't dump your coins to chase IPO shares. If a deeper discount of the leading cryptocurrencies occurs -- and it might -- take the opportunity to load up on Bitcoin and other majors you have conviction in. Until that happens, be aware that this IPO season is going to be a rough stretch.

The SpaceX IPO Is Finally Here. What Does It Mean for Bitcoin Investors?

Bitcoin is facing a crisis of confidence at the moment.
There's a swath of different issues that its detractors point to as being reasons to sell it.
All those reasons are inherently short-term or otherwise non-permanent.
Every Bitcoin sell-off arrives with its own funeral procession. Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) has shed about 21% in a month, and, right on cue, the eulogies are back.
The most common reasons people cite for Bitcoin being dead are that lots of exchange-traded fund (ETF) capital is exiting, which has coincided with sentiment being extremely grim for months on end. That's before even discussing Strategy, which is supposedly the last deep-pocketed buyer still standing, and which just sold some of its hoard for the first time in years.

It's true that there's a confluence of bearish forces at play right now, and they're pushing down the price of the coin quite forcefully. Let's investigate whether that invalidates Bitcoin's investment thesis, so we can determine if it's still worth buying and holding forever.
The selling is real, and it might not stop soon
Spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) just saw outflows of $4.4 billion across 13 straight sessions, which is the longest outflow streak since the ETFs launched in 2024. At the same time as sales have accelerated, demand is lower.
There's a macro backdrop of rising inflation, considerable geopolitical (and thus economic) uncertainty, and an exuberant stock market driven by hype around AI stocks and an upcoming massive IPO season. In this economy, an old cryptocurrency that's been falling for months is a tough sell to most investors.
As for the narrative about Strategy being the only business buying Bitcoin, it doesn't hold up. While Strategy reported buying 1,550 BTC on June 8, a handful of the ETF issuers bought Bitcoin too. So while demand over the last couple of weeks has indeed been weaker, it's far from zero.
This asset is still worth owning
Capital outflows from ETFs indicate that the marginal bid is turning negative for a few weeks, not that the coin's buyer base is leaving for good. Weakening demand for an asset is a sentiment problem, and sentiment has historically recovered, especially for an asset as robust as Bitcoin. The original cryptocurrency has recovered from many sharp drops over the years.
Furthermore, none of these issues are permanent in nature, and none actually affect what makes the coin worth owning in the first place. The coin's supply is still capped at 21 million BTC. Its new issuance will still halve on schedule to ensure that the coin will remain scarce, and no central bank can conjure up more of it, even if it might really want to.
Therefore, it still makes sense to buy and hold Bitcoin forever, as long as you're patient. Its scarcity moves the price over quarters and years, not months. Buy small fixed amounts of it on a regular schedule, and keep some cash on hand to load up during panics. Soon enough, the troubles of the last few weeks will be entirely forgotten.

With Bitcoin Down 21% in 1 Month, Is It Still Worth Buying and Holding Forever?

Crypto is in a bear market right now.
There have also recently been a slew of hacks, theft, and controversies.
However, there's still a small oasis of quality assets, for now.
Crypto bear markets tend to clarify which coins have actual value and which were largely (or entirely) vapor. But even strong assets suffer; Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) is currently worth about half what it was at its October 2025 peak, and many of the convictions I held coming into 2026 haven't survived.
There are only two cryptocurrencies I'm comfortable buying in the current environment. One is built not to change, and the other is built to route real cash flow back to holders. Let's take a look at both, and I'll explain my thinking.

Bitcoin's fundamentals are the same as ever
Regardless of whatever price action it may experience, Bitcoin's strength is that only 21 million BTC will ever exist, and the next halving in 2028 will cut its new issuance from mining yet again, constricting its supply and forcing new buyers to compete with each other via higher prices. This is the same story as always. Despite how many times people have predicted that the asset is really finally dead this time, so far it has always made a brisk comeback (eventually).
That isn't to say holders need to enjoy the coin's short-term price movements when they occur. And as a result of new classes of holders buying and holding the coin, its volatility and distribution are today meaningfully different from the past, which could ultimately be a drag on its future returns. Strategy, formerly known as MicroStrategy, now holds 845,256 BTC, around 4% of the asset's total possible supply. Still, most digital asset treasury (DAT) companies that copied the Strategy playbook have paused purchases or begun trimming their positions.
Nonetheless, a fixed supply being drawn from by any persistent buyer pool is enough to bias long-term prices to the upside. For someone with patience, the coin's supply policies will eventually deliver returns. That's why I'll continue to accumulate it.
Hyperliquid is a token for investors who like to get capital returned
Hyperliquid (CRYPTO: HYPE) is a decentralized trading platform that offers perpetual futures -- derivatives that mimic spot exposure but never expire -- and it handled around $237.2 billion in perp volume over the past 30 days.
The platform's value capture mechanism is the main reason I hold it through Hyperliquid Strategies (NASDAQ: PURR), a digital asset treasury company that accumulates Hyperliquid's token, Hype.
Hyperliquid itself routes 99% of the trading fees it collects into buying back Hype on the open market. Then, the purchased tokens are burned, thereby creating a supply sink that has consumed more than $2 billion in value since the mechanism's launch in January 2025, and $176.2 million in Q1 of 2026 alone.
The other reason I'm comfortable with getting more exposure to Hyperliquid is that it's expanding into new markets, and it's bringing the same decentralized approach there, too. For instance, it now hosts prediction markets similar to Polymarket or Kalshi, as well as trading in tokenized versions of stocks, commodities, and international currencies. So, its fee revenue has a shot at increasing over the long run, and with that, so will its token buybacks.
Nonetheless, there are some issues on my radar. In particular, a large majority of the token's possible supply has yet to circulate, with monthly unlocks running through 2027, so the pace of token buybacks must outpace the rate of dilution from those unlocks for the investment to be successful. That hasn't been a problem so far.
The other factor I'm watching closely is that Hyperliquid's competition is strong, and moving fast to contest its market share. Regulators approved Kalshi's first U.S.-regulated Bitcoin perpetual future on May 29. Robinhood Markets is widely expected to follow, and it won't be the last player to arrive on the scene either. So if trading volume migrates to those regulated futures trading venues, Hyperliquid's lead -- a 56% market share of decentralized perpetual futures contract volumes, up from 24% at the start of the year -- might be harder to hold.
In closing, these two coins are the only cryptocurrencies I want to be buying right now, but that could change. If Hyperliquid's buyback policy is weakened, I'll strongly consider selling it. For Bitcoin, there's not much that would force me to sell it, and it'd take some serious turbulence to stop me from wanting to accumulate it over time.

These Are the Only 2 Cryptocurrencies I'm Comfortable Buying Right Now

The S&P 500 Index ($SPX) (SPY) on Thursday closed up +1.75%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average ($DOWI) (DIA) closed up +1.86%, and the Nasdaq 100 Index ($IUXX) (QQQ) closed up +3.29%. June E-mini S&P futures (ESM26) rose +1.73%, and June E-mini Nasdaq futures (NQM26) rose +3.26%.
Stock indexes settled sharply higher on Thursday, after geopolitical risks eased when President Trump canceled planned strikes on Iran and signaled that a peace deal to end the war was imminent. Chipmakers and other AI-related stocks rallied on Thursday, leading the broader market higher. Also, Thursday’s -2% plunge in WTI crude oil sparked a rally in airline stocks and cruise line operators. However, software stocks retreated on Thursday, led by an -8% slump in Oracle after it reported higher-than-expected capital expenses, driven by increased data spending.

Stocks raced to their highs Thursday afternoon when President Trump said he canceled planned military strikes against Iran, citing "discussions" with Iranian leadership. He added that a "time and place of the signing" of a negotiated end to the war would "be announced shortly," and the US naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz "will remain in full force and effect until this transaction is finalized."
Stocks were initially weighed down on Thursday amid concerns about the escalation of Middle East hostilities after President Trump said the US will be hitting Iran very hard tonight and will "at some point" take control of Kharg Island, Iran's key export hub, thus taking control of Iran's oil and gas markets.
Stocks were also pressured by Thursday’s US economic reports, which showed that weekly US jobless claims unexpectedly rose to a 4-month high and that May producer prices were mixed.
Late Wednesday, President Trump said the US will continue bombing Iran if it refuses to agree to an interim peace deal. Mr. Trump ordered multiple strikes on Iranian targets on Wednesday, and Iran retaliated by firing on US bases in Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan. The increase in tensions risks derailing peace talks between Iran and the US, thus keeping the Strait of Hormuz closed, and further tightening global energy supplies.
US weekly initial unemployment claims unexpectedly rose +4,000 to a 4-month high of 229,000, showing a weaker labor market than expectations of a decline to 220,000.
US May PPI final demand rose +1.1% m/m and +6.5% y/y, stronger than expectations of +0.7% m/m and +6.4% y/y, with the +6.5% y/y gain being the largest year-on-year increase in 3.5 years. However, May PI ex food and energy rose +0.4% m/m and +4.9% y/y, weaker than expectations of +0.5% m/m and +5.4% y/y.
WTI crude oil prices (CLN26) are extremely volatile, whipsawing higher and lower several times on Thursday. Crude prices today initially gave up an overnight advance of more than +2% and fell more than -2% after President Trump said he canceled planned strikes on Iran and that a peace deal to end the war was imminent. Crude prices initially rallied more than +2% on Thursday when President Trump said the US would keep attacking Iran and threatened to seize the Kharg Island oil terminal, Iran’s main crude exporting hub.
The markets are discounting a 0% chance of a +25 bp rate hike at the next FOMC meeting on June 16-17.
Overseas stock markets settled mixed on Thursday. The Euro Stoxx 50 closed up +0.78%. China's Shanghai Composite closed down -0.16%. Japan's Nikkei Stock Average recovered from a 2.5-week low and closed up +0.06%.
Interest Rates
September 10-year T-notes (ZNU6) on Thursday closed up +17 ticks, and the 10-year T-note yield fell -9.3 bp to 4.459%. T-notes rallied on Thursday after US weekly jobless claims unexpectedly rose to a 4-month high and May producer prices ex-food and energy rose less than expected, dovish factors for Fed policy. T-notes also garnered support on Thursday from the -2% fall in WTI crude oil prices, which lowered inflation expectations. The 10-year breakeven inflation rate fell to a 2.5-month low of 2.303% on Thursday.
Gains in T-notes were limited after stocks rallied sharply, which curbed safe-haven demand for government debt securities. Also, slack demand for the Treasury’s $22 billion auction of 30-year T-bonds was negative for T-notes, as the auction had a bid-to-cover ratio of 2.33, below the 10-auction average of 2.39.
European government bond yields moved lower on Thursday. The 10-year German Bund yield fell from a 2.5-week high of 3.091% and finished down -4.5 bp to 3.032%. The 10-year UK gilt yield fell -2.6 bp to 4.905%.
The ECB, as expected, raised the deposit facility rate by +25 bp to 2.25% from 2.00% and said, "The outlook remains uncertain, with upside risks for inflation and downside risks for economic growth."
The ECB cut its 2026 Eurozone GDP estimate to +0.8% from a previous estimate of +0.9% and raised its 2026 Eurozone inflation ex-food and energy forecast to +2.5% from a previous forecast of +2.3%.
Swaps are discounting a 62% chance of a +25 bp ECB rate hike at its next policy meeting on July 23.
US Stock Movers
Chipmakers and AI-infrastructure stocks rallied sharply on Thursday amid signs that AI spending is continuing after Oracle reported quarterly capital expenditures that were higher than expected, driven by increased data center spending. Sandisk (SNDK) closed up more than +14% to lead gainers in the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100, and KLA Corp (KLAC) closed up more than +13%. Also, Lam Research (LRCX) closed up more than +12%, and Applied Materials (AMAT), ARM Holdings Plc (ARM), Marvell Technology (MRVL), and Micron Technology (MU) closed up more than +11%. In addition, Intel (INTC) and ASML Holding NV (ASML) closed up more than +9%, and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) and Western Digital (WDC) closed up more than +7%. Finally, Seagate Technology Holdings Plc (STX), NXP Semiconductors NV (NXPI), and Qualcomm (QCOM) closed up more than +6%, and Microchip Technology (MCHP) and Texas Instruments (TXN) closed up more than +5%.
Airline stocks and cruise line operators moved sharply higher on Thursday after WTI crude oil fell more than -2%, lowering fuel costs and boosting the companies’ profitability prospects. Alaska Air Group (ALK) closed up more than +11%, and United Airlines Holdings (UAL) and American Airlines Group (AAL) closed up more than +9%. Also, Carnival (CCL) closed up more than +8%, and Southwest Airlines (LUV) and Royal Caribbean Cruises (RCL) closed up more than +7%. In addition, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH) and Delta Air Lines (DAL) closed up more than +6%.
Cryptocurrency-exposed stocks moved higher on Thursday as Bitcoin (^BTCUSD) rose more than +3%. Galaxy Digital Holdings (GLXY) closed up more than +10%, and Riot Platforms (RIOT) closed up more than +8%. Also, MARA Holdings (MARA) closed up more than +7%, Coinbase Global (COIN) closed up more than +4%, and Strategy (MSTR) closed up more than +3%.
Software stocks are under pressure today, limiting gains in the overall market, with Oracle (ORCL) down more than -8% to lead losers in the S&P 500 after forecasting full-year capital spending of $70 billion, $20-25 billion higher than expected due to prepayment for some components. Also, Autodesk (ADSK) closed down more than -7% to lead losers in the Nasdaq 100, and Adobe Systems (ADBE) closed down more than -6%. In addition, Workday (WDAY) closed down more than -5%, and Salesforce (CRM) closed down more than -2% to lead losers in the Dow Jones Industrials. Finally, ServiceNow (NOW), Atlassian Corp (TEAM), and Intuit (INTU) closed down more than -2%, and Microsoft (MSFT) closed down more than -1%.
Energy stocks and service providers slumped on Thursday after WTI crude oil fell more than -2%. Devon Energy (DVN) closed down more than -4%, and ConocoPhillips (COP) and APA Corp (APA) closed down more than -3%. Also, Chevron (CVX), Diamondback Energy (FANG), Exxon Mobil (XOM), and Occidental Petroleum (OXY) closed down more than -2%.
Voyager Technologies (VOYG) closed up more than +16% after BTIG initiated coverage on the stock with a buy recommendation and a price target of $55.
Navan (NAVN) closed up more than +9% after raising its full-year revenue forecast to $907 million-$913 million from a previous estimate of $866 million-$874 million, well above the consensus of $871.7 million.
Eaton Corp Plc (ETN) closed up more than +5% after agreeing to merge its mobility business with Dana Inc in a deal valuing the combined company at roughly $10 billion, including debt.
Allegion Plc (ALLE) closed up more than +3% after Longbow Research upgraded the stock to buy from neutral with a price target of $165.

Stocks Settle Sharply Higher on Middle East Peace Hopes

Every crypto winter brings out the Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) obituary writers. The cryptocurrency has been declared dead roughly 400 times since its launch in 2009, yet here it sits with a $1.24 trillion market cap as of June 9, 2026. For a corpse, it's holding up pretty well.
So let's talk about zero. It's more interesting than you think.

The case for zero
For Bitcoin to become worthless, something would need to fundamentally break. These are the most plausible threats in my eyes:
Developer missteps: The open-source community maintaining Bitcoin's code could make catastrophic errors or fail to adapt to emerging challenges.
Quantum computing: Future quantum computers could theoretically crack Bitcoin's encryption, compromising the entire network. The faster quantum computers become useful, the faster Bitcoin has to change its security model.
A better alternative: Another cryptocurrency could emerge as a superior long-term store of value, rendering Bitcoin obsolete in a functional sense.
Why the big bagel remains unlikely
Bitcoin's trillion-dollar market cap is not speculative froth. It represents real capital from individual investors, institutions, and, increasingly, traditional financial firms that are taking crypto seriously. Exchange-traded funds already hold roughly 6% of all Bitcoin. Bankers are moving into digital assets.
The security concerns are also less dire than headlines suggest. The quantum threat remains years away from practical implementation. A 51% attack, in which bad actors seize majority control of the network to create any transactions they want, becomes increasingly impractical as Bitcoin's invested value increases. Since 2009, every successful crypto hack has targeted wallets or exchanges, not the Bitcoin protocol itself.
There's also the inflation angle. Following the April 2024 halving event, Bitcoin's new supply inflation rate fell below gold's mining-based inflation rate. Cathie Wood of Ark Invest highlighted this milestone around the halving event, strengthening the "digital gold" narrative. Bitcoin's famous white paper sketched out this value-building tool right from the start.
"The steady addition of a constant amount of new coins is analogous to gold miners expending resources to add gold to circulation," the technical document stated. "In our case, it is CPU time and electricity that is expended."
The realistic outlook
Can Bitcoin decline further and longer than in previous crypto winters? Absolutely. Can it stay depressed for extended periods? Yes.
But going to zero would require a cascade of failures: the developer community abandoning ship, quantum-safe encryption upgrades failing, institutional interest evaporating, and $1.2 trillion in value simultaneously deciding to exit.
That's not a prediction. It's a fantasy or a nightmare, depending on who you ask. Either way, it's a nearly inconceivable scenario.
Bitcoin isn't a sure thing. I'd stay away from the maximalist approach of Strategy's (NASDAQ: MSTR) Michael Saylor, who has concentrated his company's balance sheet in Bitcoin. But some Bitcoin exposure in a diversified portfolio? That's just acknowledging that a new asset class exists and has proven surprisingly durable.
Bitcoin may not be "the future of money." It might just be another asset worth owning. But that's enough, and holding some sets you up for a nice surprise if it delivers on its lofty promises in the end.

Is Bitcoin Going to $0? Here's the Honest Answer.

In early trading on Wednesday, shares of Lumentum Holdings topped the list of the day's best performing components of the Nasdaq 100 index, trading up 4.1%. Year to date, Lumentum Holdings registers a 132.0% gain.
And the worst performing Nasdaq 100 component thus far on the day is Old Dominion Freight Line, trading down 6.5%. Old Dominion Freight Line, is showing a gain of 48.4% looking at the year to date performance.
Two other components making moves today are Western Digital, trading down 4.6%, and Strategy, trading up 2.1% on the day.

Key Points
Every major cryptocurrency is struggling at the moment.
The struggles are highly likely to continue for at least a while longer.
Many of the most popular investment theses for buying cryptoassets are no longer valid.
The S&P 500 is up about 24% during the past 12 months. Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) is down 40% in the same period. Meanwhile, the rest of the crypto sector has been a graveyard for capital. Investors who bought a plain index fund in June 2025 made money; holders of "digital gold" did not, and holders of altcoins were quite likely to have lost almost everything.
In the longer view, some original investment theses for buying crypto still hold, while many (most?) others have been bludgeoned into irrelevance by hard evidence, courtesy of the market. So, is there any reason left to buy cryptocurrency in 2026, or is this show over for good?

When the wheels fell off the car
Crypto's hard times started with the flash crash on Oct. 10, and practically none of the major currencies have recovered since then. Leading coins like XRP (CRYPTO: XRP), Ethereum (CRYPTO: ETH), and Solana (CRYPTO: SOL) have taken an absolute shellacking. Take a look at this chart:
But the outlook for the coming period could be even more pessimistic.
After more than a decade of existing as an industry, the most commercially successful crypto applications by revenue generated are still largely venues for investors to speculate or outright gamble, which is a significant problem when the decision to invest in either crypto or equities increasingly comes down to crypto's promises of higher returns versus equity earnings. As for most of the biggest coins by market cap, there simply hasn't been a strong relationship between their financial metrics and returns for holders due to tokenomics that lack a mechanism for holders to capture any of the value being generated.
On that note, Strategy just made its first stand-alone net Bitcoin sale, thereby retiring the reassuring certainty of the "never sell your Bitcoin" thesis behind its digital asset treasury model. That's one fewer major holder that can be counted on not to dump a coin whose price action ends up influencing everything else in the sector.
The macro picture is also unlikely to be supportive of higher crypto prices. The Federal Reserve, under its new Chair Kevin Warsh, may opt to hold interest rates higher for longer due to April's Consumer Price Index (CPI), which came in with a hot readout of 3.8%. If that happens, it will drain the liquidity that historically fed crypto rallies.
Geopolitics are another headwind. The U.S.-Israel war with Iran, now running past 90 days, has periodically disrupted oil transit through the Strait of Hormuz and kept Middle East risk premiums elevated, conditions that historically pull capital out of risk-on assets like crypto.
The surviving theses are few and far between
Two assets still have a mechanical reason to own them.
Bitcoin's scarcity, the basis for its value, is still intact. Its supply cap is still in force, its halvings will continue, and adoption by many types of actors, including countries and corporations, seems to be continuing apace. The main new vulnerability is the concentration of marginal demand; Strategy alone accounted for 97.5% of net new corporate Bitcoin purchases in January 2026, meaning that almost anything it does will move the market.
Separately, the decentralized financial derivatives exchange Hyperliquid is one of the very few tokens whose circulating supply is mechanically tied to its platform revenue, via a process that routes nearly all trading fees into open-market buybacks. Other than Hyperliquid, Ethereum and Solana have substantial ecosystems that are probably valuable, but neither has a clean, mechanism-driven case to hold over Bitcoin or Hyperliquid.
So for the moment, the takeaway here is that if you participate at all, evaluating cryptocurrency as a long-term holding means maintaining a small allocation of your overall portfolio, likely focusing on one or two defensible assets, and investing using disciplined dollar-cost averaging instead of a lump-sum entry.
There are still a few reasons to buy cryptocurrency in 2026. The list is just a lot shorter than it used to be.

Is There Any Reason Left to Buy Cryptocurrency in 2026?

The S&P 500 Index ($SPX) (SPY) on Monday closed up +0.30%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average ($DOWI) (DIA) closed down -0.16%, and the Nasdaq 100 Index ($IUXX) (QQQ) closed up +1.58%. June E-mini S&P futures (ESM26) rose +0.18%, and June E-mini Nasdaq futures (NQM26) rose +1.44%.
Stock indexes settled mixed on Monday, recovering some of last Friday’s selloff. Renewed enthusiasm for artificial intelligence boosted chipmakers and AI-infrastructure stocks, lifting the broader market higher on Monday. Stocks also found support on Monday after WTI crude oil prices (CLN26) fell from their highs when Iran said its current military operation against Israel had ended. Apple fell by more than -1% to weigh on the Dow Jones Industrial Average after receiving a tepid response to the next generation of its AI platform.

Crude oil prices initially jumped more than +4% on Monday on a flare-up in hostilities between Iran and Israel that threatens to derail a truce and complicate negotiations to end the war. Israel said it struck several military targets in Iran today, retaliating against missile attacks by Iran, and the Tasnim News Agency reported that Iran said it is prepared for a long-term war with Israel and for strikes on American interests. However, crude prices gave up most of their gains when Iran signaled an end to its current military operations against Israel, and President Trump said the two sides were looking to agree to an immediate ceasefire.
The markets are discounting a 3% chance of a +25 bp rate hike at the next FOMC meeting on June 16-17.
Overseas stock markets settled mixed on Monday. The Euro Stoxx 50 fell to a 2-week low and closed unchanged. China's Shanghai Composite dropped to a 2-month low and closed down -1.70%. Japan's Nikkei Stock Average slid to a 2-week low and closed down -3.85%.
Interest Rates
September 10-year T-notes (ZNU6) on Monday closed down -1.5 ticks, and the 10-year T-note yield rose +1.8 bp to 4.548%. Sep T-note prices fell to a 2-week low on Monday, and the 10-year T-note yield climbed to a 2-week high of 4.580%. T-notes were pressured by some negative carryover from last Friday’s stronger-than-expected increase in US May nonfarm payrolls and a sharp upside revision to April nonfarm payrolls, bolstering speculation that the next Fed move will be an interest rate increase. Also, Monday’s stock recovery has curbed safe-haven demand for T-notes. In addition, supply pressures are bearish for T-notes as the Treasury will auction $119 billion of T-notes and T-bonds this week, beginning with Tuesday’s $58 billion auction of 3-year T-notes.
Losses in T-notes were limited as inflation expectations eased after crude oil prices gave up sharp overnight gains when President Trump said Iran and Israel are “looking to do” an immediate ceasefire. The 10-year breakeven inflation rate fell to a 1.5-month low of 2.452% on Monday.
European government bond yields moved higher on Monday. The 10-year German Bund yield climbed to a 2-week high of 3.073% and finished up +2.2 bp to 3.060%. The 10-year UK gilt yield rose to a 2-week high of 4.958% and finished up +4.0 bp to 4.943%.
The Eurozone Jun Sentix investor confidence index rose by +3.0 to -3.4, stronger than expectations of -14.0.
German Apr factory orders fell -3.8% m/m, weaker than expectations of -2.0% m/m.
Swaps are discounting a 100% chance of a +25 bp ECB rate hike at its next policy meeting on Thursday.

Marvell Technology (MRVL) closed up more than +9% after S&P Dow Jones Indices said the company will replace Pool Corp in the S&P 500 before the market opening on Monday, June 22.
Nurix Therapeutics (NRIX) closed up more than +6% after Roche agreed to pay the company as much as $2.3 billion for rights to an experimental blood-cancer drug.
Cummins Inc (CMI) closed up more than +3% after UBS upgraded the stock to buy from neutral with a price target of $850.
Voya Financial (VOYA) closed up more than +2% after Raymond James upgraded the stock by two notches to strong buy from market perform with a price target of $117.
Wix.com (WIX) closed down more than -7% after saying it expects an approximately $50 million reduction in bookings in 2026 due to a new organizational realignment program and a more pronounced slowdown in the growth of its Partners business, beyond previous expectations.
Cien Corp (CIEN) closed down more than -4% after saying it plans to offer $2 billion in convertible senior notes due in 2031.
Apple (AAPL) closed down more than -1% as the market was unimpressed by the company’s next generation of its artificial intelligence platform, as many features are similar to capabilities unveiled earlier.
