Management has acknowledged that third-quarter performance fell short of expectations due to the absence of storm activity, which typically supports demand in categories such as roofing, power generation and plywood. That same dynamic is unlikely to change in the final quarter, as Home Depot laps a prior-year period that benefited from extended storm-driven repair demand. This difficult comparison creates a structural headwind for revenues.
On its lastearnings call management highlighted that October was most impacted by the absence of storms in the third quarter, with comparable sales falling 1.5%. This signals that softness tied to weather effects could persist into the fourth quarter. While demand trends, excluding weather effects, remained relatively consistent with the second quarter, management emphasized that storm-adjusted demand has not improved, citing housing activity at nearly 40-year lows and ongoing consumer uncertainty.
While Home Depot does not plan around storm activity, it has historically benefited from weather-related repair demand. This year, that benefit was largely absent, resulting in a notable year-over-year drag. Management cautioned that fourth-quarter comparisons will be even more challenging than the third quarter, as rebuild activity that supported results last year is absent this time. Reflecting these pressures, Home Depot now expects fiscal 2025 comparable sales to be slightly positive, down from its prior forecast of 1% growth.
Home Depot cited continued fourth-quarter pressure from the lack of storm activity. As storm-sensitive categories face tougher comparisons, fourth-quarter performance may look weaker on the surface, even if underlying demand trends remain broadly stable. Will Q4 Be Weaker for Home Depot as Storm Comparisons Intensify?

RH RH reported mixed third-quarter fiscal 2025 (ended Nov. 1, 2025) results, with adjusted earnings missing the Zacks Consensus Estimate and declining on a year-over-year basis. Meanwhile, net revenues beat the estimate and increased from the prior year's reported figure.
Shares of RH gained 3.1% in the after-hours trading session yesterday.
RH demonstrated resilience in the quarter, achieving solid revenue growth despite one of the weakest housing backdrops in decades and persistent tariff-related disruptions. Performance was supported by strong momentum across its immersive Gallery model, rapid growth in its hospitality business, early international traction and the successful launch of RH Paris. The expansion of its interior design services and ongoing investment in new product development also helped strengthen the brand’s long-term growth prospects.
However, tariffs continue to elevate costs, delay products and pressure margins, while rising global expansion expenses and persistent housing-market weakness compound near-term challenges. Even so, management emphasized that RH continues to capture meaningful market share and remains committed to investments that they believe will drive long-term strategic separation. Considering the recent trend, RH trimmed its fiscal 2025 guidance.
RH’s Q3 Earnings & Revenue Discussion
The company reported adjusted earnings per share (EPS) of $1.71, which missed the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $2.13 by 19.7%. In the year-ago quarter, it had reported adjusted EPS of $2.48.
RH Price, Consensus and EPS Surprise
Net revenues of $883.8 million surpassed the consensus mark of $882.9 million by 0.1% and rose 8.9% year over year. Net revenues from the RH segment increased 8.8% year over year to $835.8 million, while those for Waterworks rose 9.9% to $48 million.
Notably, on a two-year basis, revenues were up 18%, despite what management described as “the worst housing market in almost 50 years, and the polarizing impact of tariffs.” This performance underscores the brand’s continued strength and disruptive positioning amid a challenging housing environment.

The adjusted gross margin contracted 40 basis points (bps) to 44.1% in the reported quarter.
Adjusted Selling, general & administrative expenses (as a percentage of total net revenues) increased 300 bps to 32.5% year over year.
Adjusted operating margin contracted 340 bps year over year to 11.6%. Moreover, adjusted EBITDA decreased 7.6% year over year to $155.8 million for the quarter and adjusted EBITDA margin contracted 320 bps to 17.6%.
RH’s Balance Sheet & Cash Flow
As of Nov. 1, 2025, RH’s cash and cash equivalents were $43.1 million, up from $30.4 million at the end of fiscal 2024. The company ended the third quarter of fiscal 2025 with merchandise inventories worth $875 million compared with $1.02 billion at the end of fiscal 2024.
RH ended the quarter with a net debt of $2.4 billion and a net debt-to-adjusted EBITDA ratio of 4.1x.
Net cash provided by operating activities was $356.2 million as of the first nine months of fiscal 2025 compared with $35.9 million in the year-ago period. Free cash flow was $83 million against a negative $96 million reported in the year-ago period.
Capital expenditures, as of Nov. 1, 2025, were $158.4 million during the first nine months of fiscal 2025, down from $179.9 million in the year-ago period.

For fourth-quarter fiscal 2025, the company expects the quarterly net revenues to grow between 7% and 8% year over year.
Adjusted operating margin is expected to be in the range of 12.5-13.5%, up from 11.3% reported in the prior-year quarter.
Adjusted EBITDA margin is forecasted to be between 18.7% and 19.6%, up from 17.1% reported in the prior-year quarter.
Trimmed FY25 Guidance by RH
For fiscal 2025, RH lowered the higher end of the earlier guided range for revenue growth and is now expecting between 9% and 9.2% (prior expectation was 9% and 11%).
Adjusted operating margin is now expected to be between 11.6% and 11.9% (prior expectation was 13% and 14%), up from 11.3% reported in fiscal 2024.
Adjusted EBITDA margin is expected to be between 17.6% and 18% (prior expectation was 19% and 20%), up from 16.9% reported last year.
RH is still expecting free cash flow to be between $250 million and $300 million.

Home Depot is a household name. But how has this top retail stock performed for shareholders in the past?
Home Depot comes up short of the S&P 500
Investors will be extremely disappointed after looking at Home Depot's performance in recent years. In the last 12 months, owning the business would have resulted in shareholders losing 17% of their starting capital (as of Dec. 9). The S&P 500 produced a total return of 14% at the same time.
Over the past three- and five-year stretches, Home Depot generated total returns of 17% and 51%, respectively. Again, these gains come up well short of the widely followed benchmark. Home Depot does pay a quarterly dividend of $2.30 that supports shareholder returns. And the current dividend yield of 2.65% can be attractive to income investors.
The recent stretch of market underperformance might be a shocking development for some. It's able to better leverage its costs over a larger store base. And it has a strong omnichannel presence, allowing customers to shop however they want. Zooming out and looking at the big picture, Home Depot is staring at a meaningful opportunity. The home improvement sector is estimated to have a total addressable market worth $1 trillion, which means that the business has so far only captured about 16% of the entire industry.
There is a key tailwind that supports its long-term trajectory. The median age of houses steadily rises over time, now at about 40 years old. This supports durable demand for upgrades and renovations.

The Home Depot, Inc. While Lowe’s Companies and Floor & Decor have fallen 9.5% and 30.2%, respectively, FGI Industries has surged 117.2% over the same period, indicating the contrasting performance among Home Depot’s key competitors.

Unlocking Home Depot’s Valuation
Despite the recent drop in the stock price, Home Depot’s valuation remains elevated relative to the broader industry. Home Depot currently trades at a forward 12-month price-to-sales (P/S) multiple of 2.04, which positions it at a premium compared to the industry’s average of 1.38. Moreover, HD is trading slightly below its 12-month median P/S of 2.24X, indicating that the stock has not corrected enough to offer a meaningful valuation cushion if growth remains muted.
This premium positioning is especially notable when compared to peers like Lowe’s Companies (with a forward 12-month P/S ratio of 1.51), FGI Industries (0.12) and Floor & Decor (1.33).

Home Depot’s Downside Risks Now Outweigh Its Upside Potential
Home Depot’s recent trends indicate that the company is facing structural headwinds, weaker demand visibility and margin pressure. The softness in housing turnover, a key driver of repair-and-remodel spending, remains a notable drag. With management citing housing activity at nearly 40-year lows and consumer behavior still pressured by affordability constraints, the company delivered a modest 0.2% increase in comparable sales in the third quarter, with U.S. comps up only 0.1%, sharply down from 1% and 1.4% increases, respectively, in the preceding quarter. This sluggish growth shows that the expected demand recovery in the second half has not materialized.
Home Depot acknowledged that a lack of storms significantly impacted categories such as roofing, power generation and plywood in the third quarter, with October comparable sales falling 1.5% after modest gains in September and August. More concerning was the sharp decline in the U.S. market, where monthly comparable sales dropped markedly. After a slight positive trend earlier in the quarter, U.S. comparable sales fell 1.7% in October. Additionally, the slight increase in the average ticket of 1.8% was offset by a 1.6% decrease in customer transactions, indicating a loss of traffic that the business has yet to address. For fiscal 2025, Home Depot now anticipates comparable sales growth to be slightly positive, down from its previous forecast of 1% growth.
The high-value Pro customer segment is showing signs of weakness, with management noting reduced backlogs for larger projects, suggesting capital constraints or lower confidence among professional builders. This is compounded by unexpected challenges in the recently acquired SRS business, a crucial part of the company's long-term Pro expansion strategy. Due to a significant lack of storm activity, growth expectations for this acquired asset have been lowered from a mid-single-digit outlook to a low single-digit performance for the full year.
Margins are also under more pressure and directly affect earnings. Operating margin shrank to 12.9% in the third quarter from 13.5% a year earlier, while the adjusted operating margin declined to 13.3% from 13.8%. The company’s expense base continues to become less efficient against slower sales growth, and its full-year outlook reflects this challenge. Management now predicts fiscal 2025 adjusted EPS to fall about 5% from fiscal 2024 compared with its earlier estimate of a 2% decline. It expects the adjusted operating margin to be 13%, a sharp drop from 13.8% last year.
Further, over the trailing 12 months, the Return on Invested Capital (ROIC), a key measure of management’s ability to effectively deploy shareholder capital, dropped to 26.3% from 31.5%. At the same time, the company’s total merchandise inventories have increased to $26.2 billion, an addition of $2.3 billion from the last year. This inventory buildup has led to less efficient inventory turnover, falling from 4.8X to 4.5X. Finally, rising debt levels and increased interest expenses further complicate the investment outlook. Home Depot’s financial obligations have pushed net interest expense toward an estimated $2.3 billion for fiscal 2025, up from $2.1 billion in the last fiscal year.

Over the past 30 days, the Zacks Consensus Estimate for the current fiscal year has moved down by 46 cents to $14.55, while the estimate for the next fiscal year has fallen 88 cents to $15.38.
