The Home Depot, Inc.’s HD acquisition of GMS marks a pivotal step in its push to build a dominant Pro distribution ecosystem. Following last year’s purchase of SRS Distribution, the addition of GMS extends the reach of Home Depot into new verticals such as drywall, ceilings and steel framing. Management highlighted that GMS brings differentiated capabilities, a broad distribution footprint and established customer relationships, positioning the combined platform as a more complete partner for Pro contractors.
On the second-quarter fiscal 2025earnings call management hinted that SRS had already exceeded expectations and was driving revenue synergies across Home Depot’s professional channels. Now, with GMS folded in, SRS expands to more than 1,200 locations supported by more than 3,500 associates and about 8,000 trucks, enabling tens of thousands of jobsite deliveries daily. That level of distribution density creates more opportunities to serve residential and commercial Pros with speed and reliability.
The integration of GMS expands the distribution footprint across the United States and Canada. Both GMS and SRS operate on single ERP systems and emphasize branch-level execution, which should ease integration and accelerate cross-selling. Home Depot’s CEO described drywall and ceiling products as adjacent and complementary to SRS’ roofing and landscaping verticals.
The $5.5 billion GMS deal reflects Home Depot’s ambition to capture a larger share of complex Pro projects, a segment that remains underpenetrated. By combining scale, service and specialized assortments under one roof, the company is reshaping its distribution model to serve contractors end to end.

Home Depot shares have risen 12.1% in the past year compared with the industry’s growth of 11%. HD has comfortably outperformed key peers, such as Lowe’s Companies Inc. LOW and Floor & Decor Holdings, Inc. FND. During the same period, Lowe’s shares have risen 8.8%, while Floor & Decor Holdings has fallen 18.5%.

RH RH, formerly Restoration Hardware, is scheduled to report its second-quarter fiscal 2025 (ended Aug. 2) results on Sept. 11, after market close.
In the last reported quarter, the company’s earnings topped the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 244.4% while the net revenues missed the same by 0.5%, respectively. Year over year, the metrics grew 132.5% and 12%, respectively.
RH reported better-than-expected earnings in two of the last four quarters and missed on the remaining two occasions, the average surprise being 57.6%.
How are RH’s Estimates Placed?
For the fiscal second quarter, the Zacks Consensus Estimate for earnings per share (EPS) has moved down to $3.19 from $3.29 in the past seven days. However, the newly estimated figure indicates an increase of 88.8% from $1.69 per share reported in the year-ago quarter.

Additionally, the demand patterns and gains from the international market, particularly in Europe, are expected to have provided an additional revenue stream, thereby boosting its top-line growth.
For the fiscal second quarter, RH expects revenues to grow year over year by 8-10%.
Also, RH’s strategy to digitally reimagine the brand and business model is likely to have been boding well. Going forward, the company expects to make significant investments to enhance and differentiate its online experience, with plans to upgrade its website throughout 2025.
On the bottom-line front, RH’s earnings and margins are expected to have improved in the fiscal second quarter due to its ongoing efforts in shifting its sourcing out of China. To minimize the adverse impacts caused by the new tariff regime and inflationary pressures, this strategic resourcing effort is expected to have increased margins alongside enhanced top-line leverage.
For the quarter to be reported, RH expects the adjusted operating margin to be between 15% and 16%, up from 11.7% reported in the year-ago quarter. Its expectations for adjusted EBITDA margin in the range of 20.5-21.5% also reflect year-over-year growth from 17.2%.

With a strong omnichannel platform and infrastructure, going forward, Williams-Sonoma expects to beat its expectations and multiply growth across its brands, despite macro challenges. Williams-Sonoma now projects fiscal 2025 annual net revenues in the range of +0.5% to +3.5% (from -1.5% to +1.5%), with comparable brand revenue growth now expected to be between +2.0% and +5.0% (from flat to +3.0%).
Lowe’s Companies, Inc. LOW posted second-quarter fiscal 2025 results with year-over-year growth in both the top and bottom lines. While revenues came in just shy of the Zacks Consensus Estimate, earnings surpassed the same.
The Mooresville, NC-based home improvement retailer returned to positive comparable sales during the quarter, with a 1.1% increase in comparable sales as both Pro and DIY customers contributed despite a challenging start to the quarter from the weather. Management of Lowe’s also updated its full-year outlook following the completion of the Artisan Design Group (“ADG”) acquisition. Total sales are now projected between $84.5 billion and $85.5 billion, up from the prior range of $83.5-$84.5 billion.
The Home Depot Inc. HD has reported second-quarter fiscal 2025 results, wherein both the sales and earnings missed the Zacks Consensus Estimate. However, both metrics improved year over year. Also, comparable sales increased year over year.
Home Depot is confident about its initiatives to strengthen the business. It has a leading position in the home improvement industry. And with over 2,000 stores scattered across the U.S., Home Depot is well within reach of a large portion of the country's population.
Shares have generated a respectable 67% total return in the past five years (as of Sept. 4). But that gain comes up well short of the S&P 500, which would have more than doubled investor capital.

Waiting for the backdrop to improve
Home Depot was a surprise beneficiary during the COVID-19 pandemic. Sales surged 19.9% in fiscal 2020 and 14.4% in fiscal 2021. Then, when inflation started rising and interest rates rose rapidly, the business took a hit. These headwinds are still present today.
Revenue in fiscal 2024 (ended Feb. 2, 2025) was just 5.5% higher than three years prior. And for fiscal 2025, management expects same-store sales to grow by only 1%. This doesn't drive excitement from investors.
"By a wide margin, economic uncertainty is number one," CEO Ted Decker pointed out on the Q2 2025earnings callwhen discussing what the main reason was for his customer base to delay spending on renovation projects. Other retailers are feeling something similar, with consumers worried about the state of the economy.
Big projects can require debt financing. With elevated interest rates, it makes sense that households are being more cautious. But the Federal Reserve is expected to make a rate cut this month. Lower borrowing costs could provide just the boost Home Depot needs.
Despite what happens with interest rates, the company is in a favorable position. The home improvement industry is massive, estimated to be worth $1 trillion. And it's fragmented, which gives Home Depot the upper hand versus rivals thanks to its brand recognition, unmatched product availability, and omnichannel capabilities.
Home Depot plans to add 13 new stores to its footprint in fiscal 2025. Expanding the physical presence isn't a key part of the growth playbook anymore. However, five years from now, investors should have confidence that Home Depot's revenue will be noticeably higher. The gains might not mimic historical trends, but this company still has room to grow.
Focusing on shareholders
In the past five years, Home Depot has put up an average operating margin of 14.3%. In other words, this is a consistently profitable business. And the leadership team has taken earnings and given them straight to shareholders. This trend won't likely change between now and 2030.
In the last two fiscal quarters, Home Depot paid a combined $4.6 billion in dividends. The quarterly payout has risen by 53% in the past five years. And the company boasts having paid a dividend in a jaw-dropping 154 straight quarters. That's a remarkable track record that highlights management's focus on its investors.
Can Home Depot beat the market?
This is a high-quality business that commands a leading position in the industry, with minimal threat of disruption. But if investors were to buy the stock today, it's difficult to believe they could produce a market-beating return over the next five years. Home Depot's earnings would need to increase significantly for that to happen. I believe net income will be higher in 2030, just not enough to drive big stock gains.
The valuation also isn't attractive right now. Shares trade at a price-to-earnings ratio of 28. This is much more expensive than the trailing-five-year average. And the multiple has expanded by 56% in the last three years. It's best to wait for a sizable pullback before buying the stock.

Where Will Home Depot Be in 5 Years?

Investors in Home Depot Inc (Symbol: HD) saw new options become available today, for the December 2027 expiration. One of the key inputs that goes into the price an option buyer is willing to pay, is the time value, so with 830 days until expiration the newly available contracts represent a potential opportunity for sellers of puts or calls to achieve a higher premium than would be available for the contracts with a closer expiration. At Stock Options Channel, our YieldBoost formula has looked up and down the HD options chain for the new December 2027 contracts and identified one put and one call contract of particular interest.
The put contract at the $400.00 strike price has a current bid of $41.55. If an investor was to sell-to-open that put contract, they are committing to purchase the stock at $400.00, but will also collect the premium, putting the cost basis of the shares at $358.45 (before broker commissions). To an investor already interested in purchasing shares of HD, that could represent an attractive alternative to paying $416.46/share today.

Why shareholders should focus on Dutch Bros
Investors should focus on Dutch Bros due to its regional-to-national expansion. Historically, regional-to-national expansions have driven outsized gains for stores like Home Depot and Walmart, but the most relevant example for Dutch Bros is its largest competitor, Starbucks.
When Starbucks began trading in 1992, it only had 165 locations. In subsequent years, the national and then global expansion grew to its current footprint of over 41,000 stores. That growth path has earned Starbucks returns of nearly 26,000% over its 33-year history, but has also exhausted nearly all remaining domestic-growth prospects.
Now, it's Dutch Bros' turn. As of the end of the second quarter of 2025, the company has grown to 1,043 shops in 19 states, 14% more shops than 12 months prior.
That increase means that revenue, which came in at $771 million for the first half of the year, rose 29%, compared to the same period last year. Also, same-store sales, which only apply to stores opened for more than 15 months, increased by 5% in the year's first half.
Investors should expect the growth to continue. The company has outlined a goal of having 2,029 shops by 2029, a target that would nearly double its footprint in four years.
Looking at the stock, it has increased by just over 130% over the last year. Although Dutch Bros can't guarantee a repeat of that performance, the regional-to-national expansion makes continued stock-price growth highly likely.

Home Depot continues to present itself as a compelling investment opportunity, driven by its market-leading position and ability to effectively serve both DIY customers and professional contractors. Management’s decision to reaffirm its full-year outlook despite a mixed macro backdrop demonstrates confidence in both near-term demand trends and the company’s long-term growth trajectory. For fiscal 2025, Home Depot expects total sales growth of about 2.8% on a 52-week basis, comparable sales growth of roughly 1% and an adjusted operating margin of 13.4%. The company also plans to open around 13 new stores during the year, showing that capital is being deployed toward both expansion and operational improvements.
A key factor supporting the bullish case is the improving sales momentum through the most recent quarter. Second-quarter sales rose 4.9% year over year to $45.3 billion, with 1% growth in overall comparable sales and 1.4% in the United States. Monthly comps moved from a 0.3% decline in May to a 3.1% gain in July, signaling improving consumer engagement and setting a positive tone for the remainder of the fiscal year. Home Depot’s digital transformation is another pillar of its growth strategy. Online comparable sales climbed about 12% in the quarter, driven by faster same-day and next-day delivery capabilities and enhanced digital tools such as AI-powered search and “buy-it-again” functionality. These initiatives are boosting customer satisfaction and engagement, with management noting that customers using these services have demonstrated a double-digit increase in spending and purchase frequency. This strong digital adoption is supporting Home Depot’s efforts to build a seamless omnichannel shopping experience and improve productivity across its network.
The professional, or Pro, customer segment continues to be a major growth driver. Several thousand Pro customers are now using Home Depot’s trade credit facilities, with spending levels rising by double digits after activation. The SRS acquisition, completed a year ago, is already exceeding expectations in both growth and synergy realization, while the pending GMS acquisition will add more than 1,200 locations, 3,500 sales associates and nearly 8,000 delivery trucks capable of handling tens of thousands of job-site deliveries each day. These efforts are strengthening Home Depot’s leadership in specialty distribution and enabling capital-light growth through a wider network of distribution centers.
While Home Depot remains a strong operator, there are still reasons for caution. The company continues to face pressure from a softer environment for big-ticket renovations, particularly those requiring financing, as homeowners remain cautious amid economic uncertainty. This weakness in large discretionary projects, coupled with declining operating margins, rising expenses and elevated interest costs, limits near-term earnings potential despite ongoing efforts to expand capabilities in the Pro segment. It anticipates a decline in earnings per share of about 3% compared with the prior year, or 2% on an adjusted basis.
How Consensus Estimates Stack Up for HD
Over the past 30 days, the Zacks Consensus Estimate for the current fiscal year has edged down by a cent to $15.03, while the estimate for the next fiscal year has declined by 7 cents to $16.36.

Unlocking Home Depot’s Valuation
Home Depot currently trades at a forward 12-month price-to-sales (P/S) multiple of 2.41, which positions it at a premium compared to the industry’s average of 1.71. The stock is also trading above its median P/S level of 2.35, observed over the past year.
This premium positioning is especially notable when compared to peers like Lowe’s (with a forward 12-month P/S ratio of 1.67), Floor & Decor (1.69) and FGI Industries (0.06).

Noteworthy Wednesday Option Activity: FCX, ASAN, HD

Key Points
A high-profile investor has taken a bullish interest in struggling health insurer UnitedHealth.
Apple’s tariff risks are also abating, thanks to an increase in its investment in American manufacturing capacity.
Two familiar names tied for third, each benefiting from evidence and expectations of continued economic strength.
With its gain of 3.2%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJINDICES: ^DJI) outperformed most other major market indexes in August. Only a small handful of the Dow's constituents, however, did the bulk of this heavy lifting.
Health insurer UnitedHealth Group (NYSE: UNH) led the way with its 24% advance, although the company itself didn't do anything to merit it. Rather, give credit to Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRK.A) (NYSE: BRK.B), which announced a new 5-million-share stake in the struggling stock last month. Shares had fallen more than 60% from their April peak to early August's multiyear low on a near-halving of its full-year profit guidance (largely due to unexpectedly high reimbursement costs). Warren Buffett and Berkshire's lieutenants, however, clearly feel the sellers overshot their target. Investors interpreted Berkshire's interest as a bullish clue.

Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) finished a distant second to UnitedHealth, advancing nearly 12% last month. The company's solid fiscal third-quarter results posted in late July helped the stock hit the ground running in August. But an announcement of an additional $100 billion investment (bringing the total up to $600 billion) in its American manufacturing capacity that immunizes its iPhone from import tariffs arguably accounts for most of Apple stock's August gain.
Finally, retailer Home Depot (NYSE: HD) and credit card issuer American Express (NYSE: AXP) tied for last month's third-best performance among the Dow's stocks, each with a gain of 10.7%. Home Depot shares edged higher all month long despite its Q2 top and bottom lines reported in mid-August both missing analyst estimates; investors saw enough glimmers of hope in the company's same-store sales growth of 1.4% and the reaffirmation of this year's earnings and revenue guidance. There was no major news from or about American Express released last month. Given its healthy Q2 numbers released in July, however, it easily plugged into the broad market bullishness.
While these market-beating gains are compelling, interested investors will still want to do their usual due diligence before buying into any of these stocks.
