The company operates stores and ecommerce sites under the GameStop, EB Games, and Micromania brands; and pop culture themed stores that sell collectibles, apparel, gadgets, electronics, toys, and other retail products under the Zing Pop Culture brand, as well as offers Game Informer magazine, a print and digital gaming publication. The company was formerly known as GSC Holdings Corp. GameStop Corp. was founded in 1996 and is headquartered in Grapevine, Texas.

Opendoor Technologies (NASDAQ: OPEN) stock hit an all-time low of $0.51 in June last year, before staging an incredible rally that peaked at $10.87 in September. But the rally wasn't driven by the company's fundamentals -- instead, the gains were fueled by retail investors who whipped up a buying frenzy in the stock using social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Reddit.
The stock has since settled at $5.08, and this renewed downtrend looks like it might have legs. Opendoor hired a new chief executive officer (CEO) last year who is trying to revive the company's languishing financial results, but he is aggressively pursuing a strategy that history suggests might not work.

A concerning track record
Opendoor buys homes and attempts to flip them for a profit. The company entices vendors by giving them a guaranteed price and a quick closing period of around two weeks. This is more convenient than selling through a real estate agent, which is expensive and can sometimes take months with no guarantee of success.
This business model is very fruitful when the real estate market is steadily trending higher, but it can result in substantial losses when housing takes a negative turn, because Opendoor often holds thousands of properties in its inventory.
Competitors like Zillow Group and Redfin learned this the hard way. Both companies shut down their direct buying businesses after the 2021 housing boom ran out of steam. It was a matter of survival in Zillow's case, because its direct buying business was losing so much money that it threatened to take down the entire company.
Opendoor has weathered the peaks and troughs of the real estate market so far, but it has never actually turned a real annual profit (on the basis of generally accepted accounting principles). In fact, it lost a whopping $1.3 billion during 2025, which was a staggering 231% increase from its loss in the previous year.
A not-so-new strategy
Opendoor sold 11,791 homes during 2025 and purchased 8,241 more. Management deliberately acquired fewer homes because of the challenging housing market, with U.S. existing home sales hovering near the lowest level in five years. Plus, according to Redfin, there were 600,314 more sellers than buyers in the real estate market last month, which makes it very hard for companies like Opendoor to move significant volume at favorable prices.
These challenges persist despite the U.S. Federal Reserve cutting interest rates six times since September 2024.
But the tough conditions haven't deterred Opendoor's new CEO, Kaz Nejatian, who was appointed in September. He previously held leadership roles at PayPal, Shopify, and LinkedIn, so he has a strong background in technology. He thinks Opendoor should be buying more homes right now, not fewer, and he wants to use artificial intelligence to streamline the process and flip each property more quickly.
Nejatian believes boosting volume will give Opendoor more market share, and thus more control over prices. Plus, because it flips homes quickly, their value is less influenced by changes in the broader real estate market. This will reduce the company's exposure to steep losses when house prices fall.
It will take several quarters to determine whether this strategy will work, but I'm not convinced it will turn the company's fortunes around. After all, Zillow was a very high-volume participant in the direct buying industry, and it still couldn't make the numbers work. This business model comes with enormous costs and razor-thin gross profit margins, so there is simply no room for error.
More downside ahead?
Opendoor stock is already down by 53% from last year's peak, and I think the slide will continue. Retail investors have used social media to trigger buying frenzies in many other stocks in the past, with GameStop and AMC being two of the most prominent examples. Most of them have shaky fundamentals, so they never hold their gains, and they typically go on to lose most of their value.
If Opendoor's strategy shift doesn't bear fruit over the next few quarters, I think its stock will continue trending toward its all-time low of $0.51, representing a further potential downside of 90% from here.

How Much Lower Can Opendoor Technologies Stock Go?

CoreWeave & NVIDIA: Right Place, Right Time
Every so often, a company strikes a strikes gold with a bout of extreme luck. CoreWeave (CRWV) is a fantastic example of a company that benefited from an extremely lucky circumstance and pounced on the opportunity. In its infancy, the company was known as Atlantic Crypto, a digital asset company that owned and operated data centers used for crypto mining. However, in 2018, crypto markets crashed and entered a debilitating bear market, forcing Atlantic Crypto to pivot, change its name to CoreWeave, and focus on AI data centers. Although it wasn’t clear at the time, the pivot to AI data centers would turn out to be the best thing that could possibly happen to the company. In fact, annual revenues have soared from $15 million in 2022 to $5 billion in 2025.

GameStop: Better Lucky than Good
Before 2020, GameStop (GME) was a dying, heavily shorted, brick-and-mortar video game retailer. However, GME shares experienced one of the most breathtaking runs of all time after a group of retail investors on Reddit’s r/wallstreetbets forum orchestrated a short squeeze that forced large hedge funds to drive up the stock price. Amid retail investor liquidity gained fueled by COVID-era stimulus checks, GME shares would explode from $0.64 to $121!

Like most fundamentally-absent short squeezes, GME’s story would end with a major correction, with shares dropping as low as $10 by early 2021.
GameStop is a Cash Cow
Since GME shares came back to Earth, Wall Street has largely forgotten about the once high flyer. However, GameStop’s business has materially changed. Amid the hype, the company’s management has used stock spikes to raise hoards of cash. In fact, since 2021, GME has raised more than $5 billion in cash. Currently, GME’s balance sheet shows ~$9 billion in cash on hand.

GameStop Will Use Its Cash to Diversify
With its pristine balance sheet, GME is afforded flexibility. GameStop CEO Ryan Cohen has signaled that the company will diversify its business and will make a “very big” acquisition soon. An acquisition would allow GME to expand away from its slow-growing retail business into higher-growth businesses.
Michael Burry is Buying GME Shares Again
Famed investor and the inspiration behind Hollywood’s hit movie “The Big Short”, Michael Burry, told his newsletter subscribers that he is buying GME shares. In 2021, Burry was one of the few prominent, non-retail investors to catch the euphoric price move. Back then, Burry bet on the company because it was a short-squeeze. That said, Burry now believes that cost-cutting, Ryan Cohen’s turnaround strategy, and its dirt-cheap valuation will lead to the next big move. With a price-to-book ratio of 2.07, GME is one of the cheapest stocks on Wall Street.

Meanwhile, with a lofty short interest of 16% and 65 million GME shares held short, the stock may be setting the stage for another meteoric short squeeze.
Bottom Line
Although GameStop’s meme era is a thing of the past, the company has a pristine balance sheet and a hoard of cash. The company is no longer a meme play but is instead a value company with several catalysts.

Today's GameStop is radically different
In its fiscal 2025 third quarter -- which ended Nov. 1 -- GameStop's revenue declined 4.5% year over year to $821 million. Meanwhile, its trailing-12-month revenue is down 34.5% over the last five years. On the other hand, slipping revenue for the retail business hardly tells the full story.
GameStop has already gone through a radical transition. The meme-stock craze allowed it to transform its balance sheet, paving the way for it to become a hugely different company. When meme stock momentum and short-squeeze trading pushed GameStop stock up to dizzying levels, the company made the smart move to raise funds by selling new shares.
The company closed out its fiscal Q3 with $8.8 billion in cash and short-term equivalents on its books -- up from $4.6 billion at the end of the prior-year period. Now, it's gearing up to put its cash pile to use and make a major acquisition.
While GameStop is down roughly 69% from the peak reached at the height of the meme stock mania, the company has arguably never looked stronger over the last decade. Its retail businesses look poised to continue declining, but that's not really the story for the stock anymore.
With the company's market capitalization currently sitting at roughly $10.7 billion, GameStop's cash position accounts for the large majority of its valuation. Investors are also seemingly assigning a meaningful valuation premium to it based on the assumption that Cohen and his team will make smart acquisitions and investments.
While calling the company the next Berkshire Hathaway likely has the makings of an overstatement, GameStop increasingly has more in common with the famous holding company than with other struggling retailers. Expecting GameStop to deliver returns in line with what Berkshire Hathaway has delivered over the last 50 years probably isn't realistic, but Cohen has done an impressive job transforming the business -- and the stock has feasible avenues to delivering market-crushing performance from here.

Using Google Trends, Surety First looked at the most-searched stocks over a 12-month period in each of the 50 states to identify the most popular in each state. The top stocks in the most states -- six each -- were Coca-Cola (NYSE: KO) and GameStop (NYSE: GME). It shows how different regional trends are, given how different these two stocks are.
Coca-Cola and GameStop
Coca-Cola was most searched in Alabama, Hawaii, Indiana, Iowa, Oklahoma, and South Carolina, according to Surety First.
Coke is one of the longest-held and largest holdings in Berkshire Hathaway, added by former CEO Warren Buffett in 1988 after the Black Monday crash. It has been a steady performer over the decades, as evidenced by this Dividend King's 63-year streak of raising its dividend. To qualify for that title, you need to increase dividends annually for at least 50 years in a row.
Coca-Cola stock is up about 14% over the past 12 months and 13% year to date, so investors in these states likely sought the stability of this stock amid market uncertainty.
GameStop was also the most searched in six states, including Colorado, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Ohio, Vermont, and Wisconsin.
The meme stock icon is about as different from Coca-Cola as you can get. Its mercurial, meme-fueled rise in 2021 captured investors' attention, but it crashed in 2022 and has largely stayed within a range of $10 to $35 per share since then, currently at $23 per share.
GameStop has experienced declining revenue, although massive cost cuts have improved its earnings. Investors in these states may be curious about a potential turnaround or another meme-stock rally, but they should proceed with caution.
Walt Disney and SoFi
Walt Disney (NYSE: DIS) led in four states: Connecticut, Kentucky, Louisiana, and West Virginia. Disney has been in the news quite a bit over the past year and not all of it good. It got a lot of attention for launching its sports package and its battle with YouTube TV, and longtime CEO Bob Iger recently announced that he is retiring at the end of 2026. Disney stock is pretty cheap right now, and it could be poised to break out after a challenging year.
The only other stock most searched in more than two states is SoFi Technologies (NASDAQ: SOFI). It was the most Googled stock in Montana, Texas, and Utah. The popular fintech was one of the top stocks of 2025, returning 70%, but it has dropped some 30% year-to-date on high valuation and the larger tech sell-off.
The most popular stocks in each of the two states include Visa, Tesla, Shopify, Palantir, Nokia, and AMC Entertainment.
Nvidia was most searched in California, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing in Arizona, Amazon in Washington, Bank of America in North Carolina, Google parent Alphabet in Iowa, Walmart in Arkansas, AMD in Colorado, Intel in Oregon, and JPMorgan Chase in Delaware. And in New York, it was SPDR, the exchange-traded fund (ETF) provider.

Out of those ten stocks, two stocks have secured more buy ratings from Wall Street analysts than all the others: Alphabet and Amazon, which are tied at 58 buy ratings as of this writing. Let's see why these two stocks stand above the rest -- and if they're worth buying right now.
Alphabet is becoming an AI play
Alphabet's Google already owns the world's top search engine, mobile operating system (Android), web browser (Chrome), webmail platform (Gmail), and streaming video service (YouTube). It also operates one of the world's leading cloud infrastructure platforms and cloud-based productivity suites, and its Gemini generative AI platform is growing rapidly.
Google's massive ecosystem makes it one of the most balanced ways to profit from the secular expansion of the digital advertising, cloud infrastructure, and AI markets. Its platform is a gold mine of data for targeted ads and generative AI services, and it can easily bundle its services to fend off smaller competitors in those markets. Antitrust regulators have consistently targeted it, but it has weathered numerous such probes and lawsuits over the past decade.
Google still generates most of its revenue from targeted ads, but it's been diversifying its business with subscription-based services (such as Google One and YouTube Premium). Its Google Cloud platform is also growing rapidly as more companies upgrade their cloud infrastructure to handle the latest generative AI applications.
From 2025 to 2028, analysts expect Alphabet's revenue and EPS to grow at CAGRs of 15% and 12%, respectively. It's still reasonably valued at 26 times this year's earnings, and it has plenty of room to grow as the cloud and AI markets expand.
Amazon's core businesses will keep growing
Amazon is already the world's largest e-commerce and cloud infrastructure company. It generates most of its revenue from its retail business, but most of its profits actually come from Amazon Web Services (AWS), the world's largest cloud infrastructure platform.
AWS' profits enable Amazon's retail business to expand through lower-margin, loss-leading strategies. That's why it can continuously attract more Prime members through its exclusive discounts, free shipping, streaming services, and other perks. It's already locked in more than 240 million Prime members worldwide, which gives it a wide moat against other retailers.
Amazon's e-commerce business will continue to grow as it upgrades its logistics networks, accelerates its shipping capabilities, and expands into new regions. Its cloud infrastructure business will also benefit from the AI market's breakneck growth. To capitalize on that trend, it's rolling out more AI development tools, purpose-built AI services, and machine learning services. It's also expanding its higher-margin advertising business into a secondary profit engine.
From 2025 to 2028, analysts expect Amazon's revenue and EPS to grow at CAGRs of 12% and 18%, respectively. It also doesn't seem pricey at 26 times this year's earnings, and it could have plenty of upside potential as its e-commerce and cloud businesses evolve and expand.
Should you buy Alphabet and Amazon right now?
I believe Alphabet and Amazon are both evergreen stocks that deserve Wall Street's bullish ratings. It's encouraging to see Robinhood's investors stick with these two stocks rather than more speculative ones, and they're still both worth buying in this choppy market.

Especially high volume was seen for the $205 strike call option expiring February 06, 2026, with 28,029 contracts trading so far today, representing approximately 2.8 million underlying shares of AMD. Particularly high volume was seen for the $25 strike call option expiring February 06, 2026, with 14,548 contracts trading so far today, representing approximately 1.5 million underlying shares of GME.
