GameStop is in the midst of a strategic transformation, evolving from a traditional video game retailer into a technology-driven company that connects customers to games, entertainment, and a diverse assortment of lifestyle products. In addition to operational improvements, the company has significantly strengthened its financial position. GameStop Stock Falls 10% in 3 Months: Time to Buy, Hold or Sell?

GameStop Corp. GME delivered mixed regional results in the first quarter of fiscal 2025, as strength in the United States was overshadowed by continued weakness in international markets. Total net sales fell 16.9% year over year to $732.4 million from $881.8 million, reflecting the company’s ongoing restructuring efforts and challenges abroad.
The U.S. business remained the company’s cornerstone, posting net sales of $537.5 million, down 12.9% from the prior year. Despite lower sales, cost reductions and improved efficiency drove a turnaround to $33.6 million in operating income from a $25.3-million loss a year earlier. This marked improvement highlights the domestic market’s importance, with the United States now accounting for 73.4% of total sales.
International operations, however, continued to drag the overall performance. In Canada, net sales declined 10.3% year over year to $38.2 million, and the operating loss deepened to $22.2 million due to $18.3 million in impairment charges tied to the company’s exit from the market, which was completed after the quarter ended.
Europe faced even greater pressure, with sales plunging 47.4% to $74.8 million and losses widening to $16.8 million, weighed down by $17.2 million in impairment costs and falling demand. Australia showed modest improvement, as sales rose 2.9% to $81.9 million while operating losses narrowed slightly to $5.4 million.
These results underscore the urgent need for GameStop to focus on profitable markets and exit or restructure underperforming ones. The U.S. turnaround offers a foundation, but remaining international losses highlight the importance of decisive action to sustain its recovery and adapt to changing market dynamics.

Cathie Wood, the head of the technology-focused investment firm ARK Invest, doesn't shy away from making big bets and bold predictions. She is a vocal backer of Tesla, making it clear that she sees its robotaxi and robotics businesses changing the world -- and making trillions of dollars doing it.
Her predictions in the crypto market are just as bold, none more so than her Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) price target. Wood is a huge proponent of the digital coin -- and crypto more generally -- and was one of the more influential figures in getting spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds approved.

During that process, she said that her firm believed that the token could be worth as much as $1.5 million by the end of the decade. (Her base-case target was $600,000, still not a bad return.)
More recently, she said that she believes that the upper target could be as high as $3.8 million by 2030. That's a roughly 3,260% return from today's price and represents a more than a 100% annual return.
The core of Wood's thesis
The upper boundary of her prediction is substantial, to say the least. So, where does she see this price appreciation coming from? There are a few catalysts, but her main argument is that increased institutional adoption will drive the bulk of it.
Her math is reasonably simple: If institutional investors allocate, on average, 5% of their portfolios, it would be enough for Bitcoin to reach those enormous heights. That may not seem like much, but 5% of all institutional money is a huge amount of capital, and it represents a significant uptick from where we are now. While it's true we are trending in that direction, there is a long way to go.
Corporate adoption
An interesting trend lately has been the corporate adoption of Bitcoin as a reserve asset. This was pioneered by Michael Saylor and his aptly named Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy).
The company has pursued an extremely aggressive purchasing program and now sits on 592,100 bitcoins, valued at almost $70 billion. Other high-profile names have since followed suit, including GameStop and Trump Media & Technology Group.
Strategy's strategy is a bold one, to say the least. The company's core software business has been delivering consistent losses for some time. It is using a mix of debt and private sales of preferred shares to finance its huge buying spree.
Its most recent sale of nearly $1 billion in preferred stock (which comes with a 10% dividend) will cost the company roughly $100 million a year. That's a big expense considering its total revenue for 2024 was just $463 million. Remember: It's already operating at a loss.
I am not a fan of the tactic, and I would not recommend investing in Strategy or companies like it that are relying on buying the crypto as their core business model. I think it's reckless.
Still, these companies may be an extreme vanguard. We could soon see public companies choose to hold more-modest amounts of Bitcoin as a treasury asset.
A solid investment, but beware the hype
Cathie Wood's predictions for Bitcoin's upside are certainly headline-grabbing. Investors would do well to take them -- and others like them -- with a pretty hefty grain of salt.
There's no denying the upside potential if widespread institutional and corporate adoption accelerates. However, the reality is that most of the larger institutions (where the lion's share of all capital is managed) will remain cautious, and aggressive corporate balance-sheet allocation from public companies is likely to remain a relatively niche strategy on the whole. Still, I think Bitcoin will continue to grow, just not at the pace Wood suggests.
Investors who are nearing retirement may want to avoid crypto altogether, but for most investors, Bitcoin is a solid addition to a well-diversified portfolio.

However, Coatue also dedicated a portion of its research to Bitcoin's (CRYPTO: BTC) performance over the last several years, and where the cryptocurrency could be headed.
In fact, Coatue forecasts that Bitcoin could reach a market capitalization of $5.2 trillion by 2030. Bitcoin could be on its way to becoming a mainstream financial asset
For much of its history, Bitcoin has been labeled as a highly speculative asset -- and rightfully so. Between its overly pronounced volatility, rising adoption rates, and ongoing regulatory uncertainties, Bitcoin is not exactly as mainstream as the U.S. dollar, for example.
Nevertheless, cryptocurrency has gradually become more mainstream during the past several years thanks to a combination of factors.
Retail investors showed early enthusiasm for blockchain technology and how prominent cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin or Ethereum could be used to facilitate transactions in the real world.
Over time, large financial institutions have also become more receptive to the idea of decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols playing a role in the world of payments infrastructure, as well as the idea that assets such as Bitcoin could act as hedges to inflation -- similar to the way gold and certain other alternative assets do.
In terms of utility beyond that of financial transactions, companies such as Strategy (formerly known as MicroStrategy) and GameStop have actually acquired Bitcoin to augment their balance sheets. While such moves have been polarizing from the perspective of investors, holding Bitcoin alongside cash and short-term investments is not entirely unlike Palantir's strategy of holding gold on its balance sheet a few years ago.
Some on Wall Street seem to agree with Laffont
Coatue isn't the only firm on Wall Street predicting a steep rise in Bitcoin over the next several years.
Less than a year ago, Tom Lee of Fundstrat Global Advisors projected a short-term price target between $150,000 and $250,000 for Bitcoin. During a recent interview on CNBC's Squawk Box, not only did Lee double down on his optimistic view, but he asserted that given the limited supply of Bitcoin available and its perceived value and evolving use cases relative to other hedges (i.e., gold), its long-term price target could be more in the $3 million range -- implying a $63 trillion market cap.
Cathie Wood, head of Ark Invest, is forecasting a monster upside in Bitcoin as well. Her long-term forecast of $1.5 million per coin implies a market cap of $31 trillion -- well above Coatue's projection.
Is Bitcoin a good buy right now?
The most important takeaway from the analysis explored above is not simply that prominent investors are calling for huge gains in the price of Bitcoin. It's understanding the idea that Bitcoin's fixed supply gives the asset a perceived value of rarity, and therefore exposure to the asset could be advantageous during times of economic uncertainty.
To be sure, Bitcoin remains a highly speculative and volatile item to own. If direct exposure to Bitcoin is outside of your risk profile, there are several passive ways to invest in the cryptocurrency.
For starters, investors can buy spot Bitcoin ETFs such as the iShares Bitcoin Trust or Cathie Wood's ARK 21Shares Bitcoin Trust. These funds track the price movements of Bitcoin, but do not require investors to buy the cryptocurrency directly.
Going one step further, if investors would like to hold assets with more insulated exposure to Bitcoin, they could buy shares of crypto exchanges such as Coinbase or trading applications such as Robinhood, which has a focus on crypto.
As the chart above illustrates, Bitcoin and some of its proxies have outperformed the S&P 500, Nasdaq Composite, and gold over the last year. However, it should be noted that the broader market and gold have held up quite well, too.
Given these dynamics, I do think some exposure to Bitcoin -- be it direct or indirect -- could be a useful complementary piece of a diversified portfolio. With that said, I do not see Bitcoin or the broader cryptocurrency opportunity as superior to traditional investment vehicles just yet.

That amounts to about 72.8% of IGT's average daily trading volume over the past month of 2.1 million shares. Particularly high volume was seen for the $15 strike put option expiring June 20, 2025, with 3,314 contracts trading so far today, representing approximately 331,400 underlying shares of IGT.
