The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJINDICES: ^DJI) may be packed with some of America's biggest and most recognizable companies, but investors looking for serious income will find that the index itself is surprisingly stingy, with a yield of around 1.5% as rising share prices have outpaced dividend growth.
This leaves only a handful of Dow stocks offering yields near 3% or higher -- and among them, Chevron (NYSE: CVX) stands out to me for a reason that goes well beyond where oil prices are headed.

Chevron is quietly becoming a power company
In June, Chevron's wholly owned subsidiary Energy Forge One signed a 20-year power purchase agreement with Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) to supply electricity to a data center campus in Reeves County, Texas. A power purchase agreement is simply a long-term contract to buy electricity at agreed terms. The development, called Project Kilby, is designed to reach roughly 2.67 gigawatts of capacity, enough to power more than 530,000 Texas homes, according to Bloomberg.
The development is being built in phases, with most generation coming from turbines supplied by GE Vernova (NYSE: GEV) and additional capacity from Solar Turbines, a Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE: CAT) subsidiary. Chevron will feed the plant natural gas from its own Permian Basin wells, and the facility sits next to the data center rather than plugging into the public grid.
Here is why that structure matters to a dividend investor. Oil and gas earnings swing with commodity prices and geopolitical events, as we saw earlier this year with the Strait of Hormuz. These are the reasons energy investments and dividends tend to make people nervous. But when looking at this specific contract with Microsoft, I like how it functions as a two-decade take-or-pay contract with one of the most credit-worthy/credit-worthiness buyers on earth, more like a utility bill than a barrel of crude.
When looking at a dividend investment, you don't want to invest in a company that's reliant on political headlines or gas swings. This contract really firms up your investment. Jeff Gustavson, president of Chevron New Energies, has told reporters the company is scouting similar projects in the Midwest, Gulf Coast, Rockies, and Utah. If even a couple of those land, Chevron's cash flow gets a floor under it that the market has not yet priced as a separate business.
The dividend math behind Chevron's 3.4% yield
Chevron raised its quarterly payout by 4% in January to $1.78 per share, marking its 39th straight annual increase, and has declared the same amount in each quarter since. At roughly $210 a share, that annualized $7.12 works out to about a 3.4% yield -- more than double the Dow's average, and the highest among the index's non-telecom names. The company returned $27.1 billion to shareholders in 2025 through dividends, buybacks, and Hess share purchases.
Chevron's other September signals
Two smaller items make Chevron a solid investment this month. In August, Chevron confirmed an oil and gas condensate discovery offshore Angola that it plans to assess as a tie-back to nearby facilities it already owns -- meaning new production without building a new platform. That same month, it expanded its North American base oils distribution network through agreements with HF Sinclair (NYSE: DINO), a reminder that a chunk of Chevron's business is selling refined lubricants, not just pumping crude.
Chevron also plans to invest $7 billion in Venezuela over the next five years to more than double production to 600,000 barrels a day. There will be nuance to this investment, but if it all pays off, we could see even better gas margins.
What to do before September ends
Chevron paid its dividend on Sept. 10 to holders of record as of Aug. 19, so that particular check has already been assigned. The reason to move this month is not the calendar; it's that a final investment decision on Kilby is coming, and I think the market has yet to treat Chevron as anything but an oil stock. I'd buy it as a core income holding, expect the yield to do most of the work for the next two years, and see if the power business will be the part nobody has priced in.

Key executive departures of public companies, especially young companies, can raise a number of red flags and problems. Some CEO departures can cause the stock price to drop immediately, but even lower level executive departures can cause ongoing projects to stall, take with them years of industry experience, client relationships, as well as in-house know-how. Numerous departures can lower morale or signal hidden financial problems, board fights, or worse. That sets the context to explain to investors why Rivian's (NASDAQ: RIVN) recent CFO departure is more evolution (more on this in a second) compared to Lucid's (NASDAQ: LCID) that signals deeper trouble.
Rivian's evolution
Let's first look at Rivian's recent departure: CFO Claire McDonough is stepping down at the end of October after nearly six years to become the CFO of GE Vernova. At first glance, this could raise investors' eyebrows as the company is currently at the most important point in Rivian's young history: the R2 production ramp. That said, it's really more of an evolution.

Consider that McDonough helped steer Rivian successfully through the electric vehicle (EV) maker's $13.7 billion IPO, one of the largest in U.S. history. McDonough's leadership also helped develop key strategic partnerships, such as Rivian's highly valuable joint venture with Volkswagen, among other things, such as cost-reduction initiatives that helped drive gross profits.
With the ongoing R2 production ramp, however, one could argue that Rivian is simply evolving to meet the different skill sets needed. McDonough checked all the boxes for what's needed from a start-up CFO: fundraising, capital injection, and corporate structuring. Now, as Rivian transitions to a focus on mass manufacturing, scaling the R2, and continuing to push toward profitability, perhaps the time is just right for a different style of CFO.
There seems to be no red flags raised by Rivian's CFO leaving after a transition process -- Lucid, however, can't say the same of its departures.
A deeper crisis?
While the high-profile Rivian departure was unusual for the young company, Lucid has had a sweeping overhaul of its executive suite. Starting from the top with former CEO & CTO, Peter Rawlinson, the founder abruptly resigned in early 2025, and under the newly appointed CEO, Silvio Napoli, dramatic changes were made. Lucid cut the number of executives reporting to Napoli in half and replaced nearly the entire executive suite.
Taoufiq Boussaid, former Lucid CFO, exited recently in July as part of Napoli's restructuring, while another high-profile name, Marc Winterhoff, who served as interim CEO and was supposed to stay on board, had his role completely eliminated during a 18% workforce reduction in June. Other notable departures include Eric Bach, Chief Engineer and Senior Vice President of Product, who was a 10-year veteran who led the development of Lucid Air, left on bad terms, and filed a wrongful termination lawsuit. The list truly goes on, including Emad Dlala, VP of Engineering & Software, Sanjay Chandra, VP of IT, Claudia Gast, Strategy Chief, and Michael Bell, SVP of Digital.
These two are not the same
Rivian's recent CFO transition announcement may have surprised some investors, given the timing of the R2 production ramp, but McDonough is staying on to ensure a smooth transition and will leave on good terms for a solid opportunity. That pales in comparison to the near-exodus that Lucid is seeing from the top down, in addition to sweeping restructuring and multiple rounds of layoffs.
Think about it this way. Lucid investors, who rightfully can boast they are invested in a company that has produced some of the most advanced EVs out there, have lost the core driving force of its engineering and vision -- the Founder, CEO, and CTO are all out. It's perhaps unsurprising that, with sweeping moves, Lucid has delayed its more affordable midsize EV, the Cosmos, continues to bleed cash, pulled its production guidance, laid off a chunk of its workforce, and has hired AlixPartners, a firm known for corporate turnarounds and restructuring.
If investors want to get into the potentially lucrative future of the EV industry, Rivian's executive stability is but one reason it appears to be a far better long-term investment than rival Lucid.

The EV Brain Drain: Lucid Is Bleeding Talent While Rivian Is Evolving

The current bull market, which started on Oct. 12, 2022, is nearly four years old. The S&P 500 (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC) has generated a total return of 128% with reinvested dividends during that period, but it's starting to look expensive at 30 times its trailing 12-month earnings.
Since the end of World War II, the average bull market has lasted for five and a half years. Therefore, it's only a matter of time before the next market crash drives stocks into a bear market. It might be tempting to liquidate your stocks before that happens, but it's smarter to simply park your cash in a few crash-resistant stocks and ride out the volatility.

Let's take a look at two resilient stocks that fit that description: GE Vernova (NYSE: GEV) and Quanta Services (NYSE: PWR). Both of these electrification stocks are benefiting from the AI boom, but they'll also withstand a market crash better than their industry peers.
GE Vernova
GE Vernova, the former energy division of General Electric (NYSE: GE), was spun off as a stand-alone company in 2024. Its stock has risen more than sixfold since its market debut.
That rally was fueled by the explosive growth of its Power and Electrification segments, which accounted for 55% and 33% of its orders, respectively, in 2025. Its Power segment mainly produces gas and steam turbines, while its Electrification segment provides components and services for electrical grids. The rapid growth of the power-hungry cloud, AI, and industrial automation markets generated strong tailwinds for both segments over the past two years. The growth of its Power and Electrification segments offset the softness of its Wind segment, which produces onshore and offshore turbines and accounted for 13% of its orders in 2025.
On an organic basis, GE Vernova's total orders grew 7% in 2024, 34% in 2025, and 80% year over year in the first half of 2026 as the data center boom continued. Its backlog expanded 37% year over year to $176.3 billion at the end of the second quarter of 2026. That's nearly four times its projected revenue of $46.2 billion for the full year.
From 2025 to 2028, analysts expect GE Vernova's revenue and adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) to grow at CAGRs of 17% and 60%, respectively. With an enterprise value of $238.5 billion, its stock still looks reasonably valued at 25 times next year's adjusted EBITDA. So while GE Vernova's stock might dip in the next market crash, it will easily bounce back as the global demand for electricity rises again.
Quanta Services
Quanta Services, which was founded in 1997, is a major builder of energy infrastructure in North America and Australia. It expanded by acquiring more than 200 other infrastructure companies over the past three decades, and it generates most of its revenue in the United States.
In 2025, Quanta generated 81% of its revenue from its Electric Power and Renewable Energy Infrastructure Solutions segment, which provides grid modernization, renewable interconnection, transmission expansion, and data center electrification services. The remaining 19% came from its Underground Utility and Infrastructure Solutions, which handles natural gas pipelines, oil infrastructure, and other industrial energy projects.
Both segments are growing in the double digits as more energy companies and utilities upgrade and expand their infrastructure to support the booming cloud and AI markets. Its revenue rose by 13% in 2024 and 20% in 2025, and analysts anticipate 39% growth in 2026.
Quanta's backlog grew 49% year over year to $53.4 billion at the end of the second quarter of 2026, compared to its projected full-year revenue of $39.6 billion. That expansion was driven by the AI market's ongoing expansion and several acquisitions (including Phalcon, Enerfab, Percheron, and PSD) that bolstered its engineering, fabrication, and service capabilities.
From 2025 to 2028, analysts expect Quanta's revenue and adjusted EBITDA to grow at CAGRs of 22% and 24%, respectively. With an enterprise value of $98 billion, Quanta still trades at 20 times next year's adjusted EBITDA -- even though it's soared more than 440% over the past five years. I believe its stock will continue to rise and easily recover from the next market downturn.

2 Crash-Resistant Stocks Worth Buying and Holding No Matter What the Market Does

GE Vernova’s backlog has surged to $176 billion.
Electrification could become GE Vernova’s biggest long-term growth engine.
Nuclear could become a much bigger business by 2036.
GE Vernova (NYSE: GEV) was spun off from General Electric a little more than two years ago. By 2036, we'll look back at that breakup as one of the better corporate decisions GE ever made.
If you're unfamiliar, GE Vernova sells gas turbines, wind turbines, nuclear technology, transformers, grid equipment, and the software and services needed to keep much of it running. That means the company doesn't have to predict exactly how the U.S. will generate electricity 10 years from now, because it can make money from nearly all of it. And with electricity demand accelerating, that's a very good business to be in.

The numbers are already getting big
GE Vernova generated $38 billion in revenue in 2025. Management now expects $45.5 billion to $46.5 billion in 2026, representing a pretty dramatic increase in just one year.
More recently, the company ended the second quarter with a huge $176 billion backlog. Orders reached $24.2 billion during the quarter, up 88%, with particularly strong demand coming from the Power and Electrification businesses.
That backlog gives you something many industrial companies don't have: visibility. GE Vernova already has customers lining up years in advance for the equipment they'll need to generate and move electricity. And, of course, artificial intelligence (AI) adds another catalyst.
Data center-related orders exceeded $5 billion during the first half of 2026, more than double the company's total for all of 2025. If AI continues driving the construction of enormous data centers, utilities will need more generating capacity, transformers, substations, switchgear, and transmission equipment. GE Vernova sells all of it.
The natural gas angle
GE Vernova's gas turbine backlog and slot reservations reached 116 gigawatts during the second quarter, up from 100 gigawatts just three months earlier. Management expects that number to reach at least 125 gigawatts by year-end.
The company is responding by expanding annual gas-turbine output from 20 gigawatts in 2026, with plans to reach 30 gigawatts by 2030. GE Vernova has more than 7,000 gas turbines installed worldwide, creating a deep recurring service business, too. Its total services backlog now stands at $88.5 billion. And I suspect that in 10 years, services will account for an even larger share of total revenue.
The grid could be the real winner
Electrification may ultimately become GE Vernova's most important growth engine. Its equipment backlog in that business reached $35 billion in 2025, more than quadrupling in four years. Management expects it to roughly double again by 2028.
This is one of the easiest parts of the GE Vernova thesis to understand. Whether electricity comes from natural gas, solar, wind, or nuclear, somebody still has to move it from the power plant to the customer. The grid needs transformers, switchgear, and high-voltage equipment. GE Vernova supplies those products.
And then there's nuclear
GE Vernova Hitachi's BWRX-300 small modular reactor (SMR) is now under construction in Ontario. The company expects to finish construction on this first SMR by the end of 2029 and begin commercial operations by the end of 2030.
If that project proves SMRs can be built economically and on schedule, GE Vernova could enter the 2030s with another substantial growth business. That's not something I'm factoring heavily into the stock today. But by 2036, nuclear power could be considerably more important to this company than the market currently appreciates.
Not everything will work
GE Vernova's Wind business had a $275 million loss on an adjusted EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) basis during the second quarter, compared with a $165 million loss a year earlier. Wind orders also fell roughly 40%. That's a reminder that growth hasn't been uniform.
The bigger concern, though, is valuation. GE Vernova today isn't the same bargain it was shortly after the 2024 spinoff. But I'm much more interested in what the business could look like in 2036 than what investors are willing to pay for it next quarter. By then, I expect GE Vernova to be a substantially larger company with a much bigger installed base, significantly more recurring service revenue, and major businesses spanning gas, grid infrastructure, and potentially nuclear.
I wouldn't be surprised to see annual revenue well above $70 billion by then. That's my estimate, not management's expectation, and it doesn't require spectacular growth. Going from roughly $46 billion in 2026 to $70 billion in 2036 requires only about 4.3% annualized growth.
The bigger opportunity, though, could come from margins and cash flow. GE Vernova is already targeting a 20% adjusted EBITDA margin by 2028, with revenue of $38 billion and an 8.4% adjusted EBITDA margin in 2025. If management can combine moderate long-term revenue growth with that level of profitability, GE Vernova could generate enormous cash flows during the next decade. And that's ultimately why I'm bullish on the stock for the long haul.

Where Will GE Vernova Be in 10 Years?

Caterpillar Inc.’s CAT Power & Energy segment has emerged as a major growth engine and is expected to play an increasingly important role in its long-term strategy. The business is benefiting from structural trends in global energy demand, particularly the rapid expansion of data centers and AI infrastructure, rising electricity consumption, grid constraints and growing demand for distributed and reliable power solutions.
The segment serves three primary end markets, Power Generation, Oil & Gas and Industrial applications, through a broad portfolio of reciprocating engines, gas turbines, generator sets, compression equipment, energy storage systems and related services.
Power & Energy generated $28.6 billion in sales and revenues in 2025, making it Caterpillar's largest operating segment based on sales. Between 2020 and 2025, the segment delivered a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) in revenues of 10.4%. Operating margins have risen from 16.4% in 2020 to 26.3% in 2025.
The momentum continued into 2026, with the segment generating $15.3 billion in revenues in the first half, up 19% year over year. Operating margins were 25.4% in the first quarter of 2026 and a record 29.8% in the second quarter.
Growth is being supported by rising demand for large reciprocating engines, turbines and related services for data center applications. The accelerating buildout of data centers and AI infrastructure represents a significant opportunity. Caterpillar offers reciprocating engines of up to 10 MW and turbines ranging from one MW to 39 MW for primary and backup power applications. Its portfolio also includes switchgear, controls, inverters and energy storage systems, enabling the company to provide comprehensive power solutions as customers seek alternatives to constrained utility grids.
Caterpillar is investing aggressively to capture this opportunity. The company plans to expand large reciprocating engine capacity to nearly three times the 2024 levels and gas turbine capacity by 2.5 times by 2030. It is also targeting Power Generation sales of more than three times 2024 levels by the end of the decade. These investments are supported by a strong backlog and growing demand for both prime and backup power solutions.
Services represent another important growth lever. The increasing use of continuously operating power systems, including data-center primary power and natural gas infrastructure, creates long-duration aftermarket opportunities. Gas turbines can generate service opportunities for 30-40 years, while digital monitoring, long-term service agreements, remanufacturing and turbine exchange programs further strengthen recurring revenue potential.
How Does CAT’s Power & Energy Segment Stack Up Against Peers?
Caterpillar’s Power & Energy segment competes with Cummins Inc.’s CMI Power Systems segment and GE Vernova Inc.’s GEV Power and Electrification segment.
Cummins’ Power Systems segment contributed 18% of its total sales in 2025. The segment’s sales were $7.46 billion in 2025, up 16% year over year. The segment’s revenues have witnessed a CAGR of 15.5% over 2020-2025. The nuclear energy boom is no longer just about promises. As the third quarter draws to a close and we look ahead to the fourth quarter of 2026, retired nuclear plants are moving toward restarts, small modular reactors are entering construction, and billions of dollars are flowing into the domestic nuclear fuel supply chain.
But here's something you must understand: The U.S. still gets nearly all its nuclear electricity from the existing reactor fleet. So while advanced nuclear companies receive most of the attention, the fastest way to increase nuclear generation is to keep existing reactors running, increase their output, and restart plants that were previously shut down.

Old nuclear is becoming valuable again
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) wants to add 2.5 gigawatts of nuclear capacity by 2027 and 5 gigawatts by 2029 through reactor uprates, restarts, efficiency improvements, and extending the lives of existing plants. And we're already seeing that strategy play out.
Nuclear energy company Holtec is working to restart the 800-megawatt Palisades nuclear plant in Michigan with support from a $1.52 billion DOE loan. If successful, Palisades would become the first retired U.S. commercial nuclear plant to return to service after being decommissioned.
Constellation Energy (NASDAQ: CEG) is also working toward restarting Pennsylvania's 835-megawatt Crane Clean Energy Center (formerly part of Three Mile Island), backed by a $1 billion federal loan.
Small modular reactors are finally being built
While retired plants get a new lease on life, the more unique long-term opportunity remains advanced nuclear power, particularly because development is underway.
Ontario Power Generation began construction of the first of four GE Vernova (NYSE: GEV) Hitachi small modular reactors at Canada's Darlington nuclear site in 2025. Construction of the first unit is underway, while BWX Technologies (NYSE: BWXT) is manufacturing its reactor pressure vessel.
If everything stays on schedule, construction of the first 300-megawatt reactor is expected to be completed by the end of 2029, with commercial operation targeted by the end of 2030, potentially making it the first commercial SMR operating in the Western world.
Indeed, the economics are worth watching. The first unit is expected to cost about $5.5 billion, while all four are projected to cost $15 billion as efficiencies from repeated construction bring costs down. That's exactly what SMR developers have been promising for years: Build the same reactor repeatedly, and costs should fall.
Advanced reactors are moving beyond PowerPoint
There's progress elsewhere, too. Oklo (NYSE: OKLO) announced in August that its Groves Test Reactor in Texas achieved a major operational milestone less than a year after groundbreaking, successfully demonstrating a sustained nuclear chain reaction for the first time.
TerraPower received a Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) construction permit for its Natrium reactor in Wyoming in March and broke ground the following month. Meanwhile, NuScale Power (NYSE: SMR) has an NRC-approved uprated SMR design, while newly public X-energy (NASDAQ: XE) is advancing its Xe-100 reactor with customers including Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) and Dow (NYSE: DOW).
X-energy says its potential project pipeline includes 144 reactors representing about 11.5 gigawatts, assuming customers exercise their contingent rights in full. That's meaningful progress. But potential projects aren't operating reactors, and you shouldn't treat them as guaranteed revenue.
AI is accelerating nuclear development
Artificial intelligence (AI) has become one of the biggest catalysts for nuclear power's resurgence. Data centers need enormous quantities of reliable electricity, and nuclear plants can provide power around the clock. But AI is also beginning to influence how reactors are developed.
X-energy recently joined Idaho National Laboratory, Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA), and Amazon Web Services in Project Prometheus, a three-year initiative using AI to accelerate reactor engineering, licensing, manufacturing, and deployment. If these tools can shorten development timelines, AI could help nuclear companies on both sides of the equation by creating electricity demand while lowering the time and cost required to build reactors.
Fuel may be the overlooked opportunity
Building reactors doesn't matter if there's no fuel available to run them. That's why the DOE awarded $2.7 billion in orders to expand domestic uranium enrichment capabilities, including production of low-enriched uranium and high-assay low-enriched uranium, or HALEU. That creates opportunities beyond reactor developers, including uranium miners, enrichment companies, fuel manufacturers, and nuclear-component suppliers.
Make no mistake: The nuclear boom is real. But commercialization is what matters.
Companies such as Constellation already generate electricity and cash flow. Suppliers such as BWX Technologies can benefit as construction expands. Companies like Oklo, NuScale, and X-energy potentially offer much greater upside, but they also carry much greater risk. Licensing delays, construction cost overruns, fuel shortages, financing requirements, and dilution also remain very real concerns.
Still, the nuclear renaissance has finally moved beyond PowerPoint presentations. Now we just have to figure out which companies can turn that momentum into profits. And we'll definitely get more clarity on that in the next few quarters.

After an extremely difficult period at the end of the past decade, when the market wrote off fossil fuels in favor of renewable energy, natural gas has come back in a big way, driven by demand for power from artificial intelligence (AI) data centers. That's sent shares of the leading gas turbine and services companies GE Vernova (NYSE: GEV), Siemens Energy, and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries soaring in recent years. They still offer excellent ways to gain exposure, as does a lower-risk exchange-traded fund (ETF) such as the Global X MLP & Energy Infrastructure ETF (NYSEMKT: MLPX). Here's why buying both gives balanced exposure to the investing theme.
The investment case for GE Vernova
According to leading industry analyst Wood Mackenzie, gas turbine prices have increased by 195% since 2019. It's a remarkable turnaround, and it's evident in the growth of GE Vernova's remaining performance obligations (RPO) during that period. It currently stands at $176 billion and, based on its order pipeline, Chief Executive Officer Scott Strazik is confident it will reach $200 billion in 2027, representing a near-doubling from 2022.

In addition to RPO growth (largely driven by order growth), readers should note a couple of bullish points on top.
First, GE Vernova's services are higher-margin, and it offers long-term service agreements with its gas turbine equipment sales, allowing it to lock in an extended income stream. Every single piece of gas turbine equipment adds to its installed base and, consequently, to its long-term earnings and cash-flow potential.
Second, zeroing in on the power segment's equipment backlog, Strazik said it increased from 44 gigawatts (GW) to 53 GW in the second quarter, and its slot reservation agreements (SRAs) increased from 56 GW to 63 GW. SRAs involve upfront payments by customers to secure a manufacturing slot in the future, and their growth signals how hot demand is.
Putting these points together, every time GE Vernova wins more orders and increases its backlog, investors should pencil in more future cash flow (from service revenue) and more near-term cash flow (from SRAs).
Is GE Vernova stock still a good value?
To illustrate this point and demonstrate how GE Vernova's near- and long-term projections can increase on the back of continued earnings momentum, here's a look at how management and Wall Street analysts raised near- and long-term free-cash-flow (FCF) estimates after the recent strong earnings results.

To be clear, GE Vernova's current market cap is about $240 billion, putting it at just under 20 times full-year 2026 FCF. This valuation is fine, but as you can see above, Wall Street sees 2026 FCF as a near-term peak (note the decline in 2029), driven by SRAs, before more services revenue kicks in (hence the increase by 2032) to drive FCF higher. Therefore, investors should buy the stock only if they are confident its orders and SRAs will continue to grow strongly in the coming years, as more SRAs drive near-term cash flow higher.
There's another growth story in natural gas
The growth in the installed base of gas turbine equipment implies growth not only in gas turbine services but also in the natural gas used to fuel gas turbines.
That's great news for natural gas-focused companies, such as pipeline and storage facilities companies held in the Global X MLP & Energy Infrastructure ETF. Buying into the ETF obviates the need to pick winners in the sector and provides broad-based exposure to 29 relatively high-yielding stocks, with the ETF currently yielding more than 4%.
It's a relatively safe way to play the theme, as evidenced by its lower volatility than that of GE Vernova in recent years.
The ETF's exposure to midstream energy companies (transportation, storage, and infrastructure) that earn fee-based revenue gives it upside exposure to increased natural gas volumes as more heavy-duty gas turbines, such as GE Vernova's, are used. Combining an investment in GE Vernova with this ETF provides balanced exposure to growth in gas turbines and natural gas volumes.
That said, based on the valuations discussed above, GE Vernova is a stock to buy only if you believe in its order and backlog momentum. MLPX, by contrast, may better suit more conservative investors seeking lower-volatility, yield-oriented exposure to the same natural gas volume growth theme.

Getting more energy online is no easy feat. Transmission line construction, substation approvals, and grid interconnections are lengthy bureaucratic processes, and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei doesn't want the cost of training and inference falling on ordinary Americans.
As a result, hyperscalers' attention has turned to alternative power solutions, like those offered by GE Vernova (NYSE: GEV). Here's why GE Vernova can continue to ride the AI trade higher over the next several years.
GE Vernova benefits from historic demand for its power solutions
GE Vernova is perfectly positioned for the electricity boom. The company provides a range of power solutions, including grid solutions, energy management systems, wind turbines, and gas turbines. The company's installed base, spanning more than 100 countries, generates one-quarter of the world's electricity.
The company's strongest product right now is its gas turbines. GE Vernova's heavy-duty gas turbines and aeroderivative turbines help meet hyperscalers' near-term power demands. For example, its aeroderivatives can be shipped, installed, and commissioned in as little as six months and provide bridge power while long-term electricity expansion takes place.
Meanwhile, its HA-class gas turbines provide efficient baseload power, which hyperscalers need as their power demands grow. In the second quarter, GE Vernova's heavy-duty gas equipment orders jumped fourfold in the second quarter. It booked 52 heavy-duty gas units during the period. The company's backlog reached a staggering $176 billion by the end of the quarter.
GE Vernova is a key player in Project Kilby in Texas, working alongside Chevron and Microsoft to build a 2.67-GW co-located power facility for Microsoft's AI data center. The facility will utilize GE Vernova's gas turbines and electrical infrastructure to deliver power directly to Microsoft without burdening the regional power grid.
Powerful tailwinds should benefit the energy stock long term
GE Vernova CEO Scott Strazik noted that "the long-cycle electric power industry is in the early stages of a multi-decade growth opportunity" during the company's second-quarter earnings call.
The company expects to have 125 GW of gas equipment orders under contract by the end of this year and is expanding capacity to provide 30 GW of gas equipment by 2030, up from the 20 GW annual output projected for the third quarter.
AI hyperscalers need power, and a lot of it. Given the long timeline for connecting to the power grid, coupled with pushback from local communities, more companies are turning to GE Vernova for power -- which should be a powerful tailwind for the stock for years to come.

This is creating some powerful tailwinds for the nuclear industry and innovators in the space, and could mint some of the industrial sector's next big winners.
These established companies should ride the nuclear wave higher
Nuclear reactors need fuel, and Cameco (NYSE: CCJ) is one of the world's top uranium miners. Based in Canada, Cameco is a leading Western uranium miner with high-grade uranium mines in Saskatchewan. The company also holds a minority stake in Joint Venture Inkai in Kazakhstan, along with Westinghouse Electric, one of the world's top nuclear reactor manufacturers -- providing Cameco with upside from both raw fuel demand and the build-out of nuclear infrastructure.
Moving downstream, several companies are developing advanced nuclear reactors, also known as small modular reactors (SMRs), which could address major headaches associated with nuclear energy. SMRs are modular nuclear power solutions that are factory-fabricated and then shipped for on-site assembly. These units are flexible and could bring power to remote sites or for hyperscalers seeking "behind the grid" solutions.
GE Vernova (NYSE: GEV) is riding energy trends higher, driven by historic demand for its gas turbine equipment. That said, its offerings span a variety of power equipment. Regarding SMRs, GE Vernova is working with Hitachi to develop and commercialize the BWRX-300. This SMR is currently the only one under construction in North America, at Ontario Power Generation's Darlington site, which is slated to open by 2029.
In addition, the U.S. Department of Energy awarded the Tennessee Valley Authority a $400 million grant to accelerate the licensing and deployment of the BWRX-300. GE Vernova expects the BWRX-300 to begin commercial operations at Clinch River in the early 2030s, making it the first operating SMR in the U.S.
These speculative stocks are high-risk, high-reward opportunities
For more speculative investors, Oklo (NYSE: OKLO) and NuScale Power (NYSE: SMR) are two early-stage, pre-revenue SMR developers. These companies are still establishing themselves and are looking to lock in commercial agreements for their technology, which is set to be deployed in the 2030s. Oklo has an agreement with Meta Platforms, while NuScale has one project in Romania and hopes to secure another deal with the Tennessee Valley Authority.
Finally, these SMRs need fuel, and that's where Centrus Energy (NYSE: LEU) comes into play. Centrus is the only company approved by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission in the U.S. to manufacture high-assay low-enriched uranium (HALEU), the fuel used in many of the next-generation reactors, including SMRs, microreactors, and others under development.
Centrus also provides low-enriched uranium (LEU), the fuel used by traditional nuclear power plants. The company has traditionally sourced this uranium internationally, including from Russia. Under the Prohibiting Russian Uranium Imports Act, U.S. companies must replace their Russian-sourced nuclear fuel. Centrus received $900 million from the Department of Energy to expand its uranium enrichment facility in Piketon, Ohio, with new capacity coming online by 2029.
This unstoppable trend could persist for decades
Nuclear energy is set to enjoy tailwinds that could span the next couple of decades. Data centers have an insatiable appetite for power, while governments worldwide are significantly increasing nuclear capacity.
Meanwhile, the U.S. and others are investing heavily in next-generation reactors and the fuel needed to power them. This makes nuclear stocks appealing to investors seeking the industrial sector's biggest winners in the coming decade.

The overlooked aspect of the modern-day AI business is the 800-volt power distribution equipment that could eventually become the industry norm, making the companies operating in this space a lot of money.
A new norm for data centers is on the horizon
A quick lesson: The ordinary electrical outlets in your home deliver 110 alternating current (or AC) volts, while appliances like your dryer or oven need between 220 and 240 volts to function. Some industrial manufacturing equipment requires 440 volts to operate. And by and large, data centers have historically been built to use these long-standing conventional voltages, particularly within the United States.
With energy prices soaring, though, every potential improvement in data centers' electrical efficiency matters. And as it turns out, 800-volt direct-current platforms are far more power-efficient, and therefore cheaper to operate. Specifically, this option costs about 10% less than most of the power supplies readily available right now.
And this technology is far from being merely theoretical or experimental. Vertiv (NYSE: VRT) -- the company arguably best known for its data center cooling solutions -- co-announced with Nvidia in August of last year that it was making good design progress with its 800-volt power infrastructure specifically for Nvidia's ballyhooed next-generation Vera Rubin accelerators.
Nvidia and Vertiv aren't the only players adapting to 800-volt power supplies, though. Chipmakers Navitas Semiconductor (NASDAQ: NVTS) and Texas Instruments (NASDAQ: TXN) are moving in this direction, while smaller players like Korea-based Delta Electronics and non-publicly traded Schneider Electric are developing 800-volt power distribution equipment for data centers.
Vertiv and Nvidia are arguably leading the race, however. Nvidia confirmed in mid-August that its MGX-compatible direct current 800-power rack will be available before the end of 2026, firmly launching the beginning of a new chapter in AI data centers' power management.
There should be plenty of business to go around, given that many modern-day data centers' power consumption is measured in megawatts.
Just keep your eyes peeled
There is a challenge here. While no one disputes that 800-volt direct current platforms are more power-efficient and therefore offer an important cost savings, we're still at the early stages of a transition that could take years, and the industry is already committed to spending over $700 billion this year alone on other AI infrastructure. It may balk at replacing recently installed power supply equipment, even if it is inferior to newer options.
Still, it's a technological upgrade with clear potential, even if most of Wall Street isn't paying attention yet. You'll want to keep your eyes and ears open for how this story develops simply because there's an opportunity buried within it.
