General Electric Company, doing business as GE Aerospace, designs and produces commercial and defense aircraft engines, integrated engine components, electric power, and mechanical aircraft systems. It also offers aftermarket services to support its products. The company operates in the United States, Europe, China, Asia, the Americas, the Middle East, and Africa. General Electric Company was incorporated in 1892 and is based in Evendale, Ohio.

GE Aerospace appears to be a high-quality business with very strong profitability, but the market is already pricing in a significant portion of those strengths. A P/E of 44.38, P/S of 7.94, P/B of 20.55, and P/FCF of 50.55 are noticeably above the industry median, indicating a rich valuation relative to the sector. At the same time, the trend in multiples does not provide a convincing signal for further expansion: P/E and P/FCF have fluctuated, while P/S and P/B remain at elevated levels, meaning the room for further rerating is limited. The company’s main strength is its margins: an operating margin of 23.72%, net margin of 17.86%, and ROE of 45.68% are significantly above industry levels, while ROI of 23.28% and ROA of 6.74% confirm high capital efficiency. The picture is further supported by growth in revenue, EBITDA, operating income, and net income compared with earlier periods, which points to the strong quality of the current business. However, in the latest TTM, net income and revenue look less strong than at the late-2025 peak, and gross margin has declined from above 38% to 36%, suggesting moderate pressure on gross profitability. Liquidity remains a weak point: a quick ratio of 0.70 and a current ratio of 1.01 are below industry benchmarks, so the balance sheet does not look particularly comfortable from a short-term buffer perspective. Leverage is also not ideal: a debt/equity ratio of 0.99 and a substantial amount of long-term debt warrant caution, even if the absolute liabilities overall appear manageable relative to assets. The dividend yield of 0.12% is too small to serve as a meaningful support for the valuation or a cushion against downside. Overall, the fundamentals justify a premium to the industry for quality, but not as high as the market currently implies. For an investor, this is more a story of strong operational execution with limited upside due to an expensive valuation and an imperfect balance sheet, so the target forecast should be slightly lowered.

How the market thinks about the commercial aerospace industry
The chart below goes a long way to explaining matters. Network airlines like Delta and United Airlines are trading on very attractive valuations relative to aerospace equipment supplier GE Aerospace. The interesting thing is that GE, and its joint venture with Safran, CFM International, are leading players in the commercial engine market that powers airlines' flight departures, so why the valuation discrepancy between the main users of aircraft engines and the key supplier of them?

The commercial aerospace market in history
The answer lies in the traditional cyclicality of commercial airlines and their historical inability to generate the return on invested capital necessary to cover their cost of capital, due to the industry's continuous boom-and-bust cycles. When the going is good, airlines traditionally rush to build capacity and expand routes, only to eventually walk into a slowdown, burdened with relatively high fixed costs that push them to maintain capacity while hoping for a rebound.
Unfortunately, these dynamics have led to wild swings in profitability. While you might think the capital markets would be wary of the industry, the reality is that the debt is backed by credible assets: the aircraft.
As such, it's traditionally been a great market for bondholders and equipment suppliers, who benefit from the transfer of capital from bond and equity markets to airline industry assets, but a lousy one for equity holders. Warren Buffett himself is on record decrying investing in airlines, although interestingly, Berkshire Hathaway has taken a stake in Delta since Buffett handed over control to Greg Abel.
Why the market prices in a premium for GE Aerospace over Delta Air Lines
As such, the market accords GE Aerospace a premium valuation as it believes its growing installed base of aircraft engines will generate highly lucrative recurring services revenue, as aircraft engines can be used for over 40 years. In contrast, Delta Air Lines is rated lower because the market is pricing in the traditional volatility and cyclicality of its earnings.
Delta Air Lines' stock is attractive
While GE Aerospace's valuation arguably bakes in positive assumptions about long-term growth, Delta Air Lines' valuation looks too generous, not least because the airline has made great strides in diversifying its income streams away from an overreliance on main cabin ticketing.
For example, in the recently reported quarter, Delta's premium cabin revenue of $6.92 billion exceeded its main cabin revenue of $6.85 billion. In addition, its loyalty travel awards revenue of $1.25 billion and travel-related services revenue (ancillary and non-ticket) of $589 million meant that less than 44% of its $15.6 billion in passenger revenue came from the main cabin. Throw in "other" revenue (which contains a significant portion of co-branded credit card remuneration), which grew a whopping 50% to $3.9 billion in the quarter.
Whichever way you look at it, Delta is no longer an airline reliant on cyclical main cabin revenue. Therefore, it deserves a valuation closer to the long-term growth potential the market believes in for GE Aerospace.

Delta's Profits vs. GE's Premiums: Is the Market Mispricing These 2 Stocks?

GE Aerospace (NYSE: GE) remains one of the most intriguing growth stories in the industrial sector, and its recent results helped highlight the case for the stock. If you think share prices reflect a kind of rolling vote on a company's prospects, then the dip is a great buying opportunity, because the company had a lot of good things to say.
The investment case for GE Aerospace
I think GE Aerospace is a great company with an exceptional leadership team and a business model (aircraft engines that can be used for more than 40 years, generating a long-term stream of high-margin services revenue) that ensures long-term growth.

However, based on its recently upgraded free cash flow (FCF) guidance of $8.9 billion to $9.2 billion for 2026, investors are going to have to have a pretty solid belief in the company's ability to generate inflation-beating cash flow growth over a long period to justify the current $354 billion market cap.
That said, if you do believe in these fundamentals, then the case for the stock just got stronger. There are three main takeaways from the results.
1. Commercial aerospace services grew
First, as discussed previously, GE Aerospace's first-quarter earnings report in April was so strong that it was puzzling that management didn't formally raise guidance. The reason came down to uncertainty about the impact of the conflict in Iran on jet fuel prices and, in turn, on flight departures and GE's commercial engine services revenue.
However, commercial engines and services (CES) grew 26% year over year in the second quarter, and CES services orders grew 22% year over year, taking overall CES services orders growth to a whopping 34% in the first half. As such, management now expects its CES services revenue to grow by $5 billion in 2026, up from its April estimate of $4 billion.
2. GE Aerospace is winning the supply chain battle
Second, the aerospace industry has faced supply chain issues since the pandemic ended, but it appears GE is winning the battle. Not only did management raise expectations for LEAP engine deliveries by a high-teens percentage from a previous estimate of 15%, but CEO Larry Culp also said, "We think about '27 and frankly beyond, it's much more a supply-side challenge than it is demand."
If GE is winning the supply chain battle, then investors can look forward to upside potential in 2027.
3. Spare engine ratio will normalize
Investors were spooked early in the year when management disclosed the pickup in LEAP deliveries relative to higher-margin engine spare deliveries -- the so-called spare engine ratio. A lower spare-engine ratio will put pressure on margins in 2026. Still, CFO Rahul Ghai noted that the spare-engine ratio should gradually normalize as GE progresses into 2027.
A stock to buy
As noted, the stock looks richly priced, but if you were comfortable with the assumptions over long-term growth for a business with a powerful recurring revenue model before these results, then you will definitely be more comfortable buying/holding the stock after them.

GE Aerospace Slumps: Buy the Dip or Avoid?

Benjamin Graham, who helped train Warren Buffett, often talked about the difference between a company and a stock. Graham had a saying that, to paraphrase, even a good company can be a bad investment if you pay too much for it. That's the lens through which I view GE Aerospace (NYSE: GE) today. Here's why I wouldn't buy the stock, despite the company's business success.
The future is right in front of you
The big number for GE Aerospace is its $210 billion backlog. That's a massive number, representing the future income the company already has lined up. Adding to the allure of that figure is that it comprises two income streams: product sales and services.

The aerospace company's jet engines are expensive and are ordered years in advance. But each jet engine sold must be maintained, generating an annuity-like parts-and-services income stream for GE Aerospace. And each new engine sold just adds to the parts-and-services business. There's no question that GE Aerospace has a bright future ahead. And it is doing very well already, with adjusted revenues up 24% year over year in the second quarter of 2026, and earnings up 22%.
I don't have any problem with the business. My issue with GE Aerospace is the valuation.
GE Aerospace looks expensive to me
I have an income focus and a value bias. Starting with the income side of the equation, GE Aerospace's dividend yield is a miserly 0.5%. That's even lower than the S&P 500 index's (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC) 1% yield. Like many dividend investors, I prefer yields in the 4% area, though I'll make exceptions for stocks that look cheap relative to their own histories.
GE Aerospace's history is a bit complex, as you might expect given General Electric's massive restructuring. Essentially, GE Aerospace is what was left after a series of asset sales and spin-offs. Still, the stock's price-to-sales ratio is 7.2x compared to a five-year average of 2.1x. Its price-to-earnings ratio is 41x compared to a five-year average of around 30x. And its price-to-book value ratio is 20.5x compared to a five-year average of 4.5x. There are a lot of moving parts, but it is pretty apparent that GE Aerospace isn't cheap.
The nearly 300% price advance over the past three years has something to do with that, of course. Investors have clearly been pleased with the GE overhaul and GE Aerospace's business performance. However, with the S&P 500's average P/E ratio at 27.5x and its average P/B ratio at 5.4x, it is also very clear that investors are pricing in a lot of good news for GE Aerospace relative to its recent past and the broader market.
Not a bad company, but Wall Street sees only blue skies ahead
GE Aerospace deserves a lot of credit; it is performing very well as a business. However, investors know it and are pricing in continued strong performance. That could very well be the outcome, given the huge backlog. However, I think the valuation prices in the good news and more. This is a stock I would keep on my watch list for now.

GE Aerospace has a Backlog Worth $210 Billion. Here's Why I'm Still Not Buying

Even with Caterpillar, industrials aren't the heaviest-weighted sector in the Dow.
GE Vernova equipment is in high demand for data center applications.
GE Vernova would need to issue a stock split to be considered for the Dow.
International Business Machines had its worst day in its history on July 14. So you may think that the blue chip dividend stock would drag down the Dow Jones Industrial Average, but that didn't happen. IBM has only a 2.3% weighting in the Dow, so its losses were more than offset by fellow Dow component Goldman Sachs, which has a 12.4% weighting and gained 9% that day.
This is just one of many examples when a Dow heavyweight has carried drastic underperformance from lower-weighted components. Ten of the Dow's 30 components are down year to date, but the Dow is up nearly 8% thanks to the overperformance of its top three heaviest weighted components. Goldman Sachs has the top weighting in the Dow and is up 23%, followed by Caterpillar (NYSE: CAT), which has a 10.3% weighting and is up 56%; and UnitedHealth Group, which has a 4.9% weighting and is up 30% on the year.

The price-weighted Dow index can become unbalanced if a handful of stocks surge in price without issuing stock splits. Goldman Sachs is up 190% in the last five years, and Caterpillar has done even better, jumping 330%. Combined, these two stocks make up over 22% of the Dow.
Right now, the industrials sector has the second-highest overall weighting in the Dow, representing 19% of the index. I believe there's an industrial stock that would be an ideal component to join the Dow, but it would need Caterpillar to issue a stock split first to balance the index's industrial sector weighting. That stock is GE Vernova (NYSE: GEV) -- let's see if it's a good buy now.
A Caterpillar split could open the door for GE Vernova
GE Vernova has some history in the Dow. It was created by the 2023 split of General Electric, which was divided into GE Vernova, GE Healthcare Technologies, and GE Aerospace. GE was one of the original members of the Dow when it was founded in 1896, but was removed in 2018.
The three independent companies have collectively produced incredible gains for investors who held the original stock. GE Vernova is up a mind-numbing 700% since its spinoff and 533% in the last two years. The rapid rise has pole-vaulted its market cap to $282 billion -- making it the third most valuable U.S. industrial company behind Caterpillar and GE Aerospace.
But Caterpillar would likely need to split its stock to make room for GE Vernova so the industrial sector isn't overweighted in the index. Caterpillar has issued stock splits in the past; its most recent split came in 2005.
And which company would be removed from the index to make room for GE Vernova? A very logical seat change could be dropping Nike, given that the athletic wear company is hovering near a 12-year low and its turnaround is taking far longer than expected. Nike has the smallest weighting in the Dow, making up only 0.48% of the index.
GE Vernova is a candidate to split its stock as well
At just over $1,000 per share at the time of this writing, GE Vernova would need to issue a stock split of its own before being added to the Dow.
If Caterpillar issued a stock split and GE Vernova replaced Nike at its current price, the Dow's industrial sector weighting would increase even more, and GE Vernova would instantly become one of the most heavily weighted components alongside Goldman Sachs. The Dow typically adds stocks only if they are priced closer to the index's median weighting or have recently split their own shares, to avoid tilting the index's balance.
For example, Alphabet issued a 20-for-1 stock split in 2022 and was added to the Dow in June of this year. If GE Vernova issued a 4-for-1 split, it would be priced right around the median of the Dow components.
This hypergrowth industrial stock deserves a seat in the Dow
Given its industry-leading role in supplying industrial machinery, such as heavy-duty gas turbines, for AI data centers, GE Vernova stands out as a logical choice for adding another industrial component to the Dow.
Despite its massive run-up in recent years, GE Vernova fetches a surprisingly reasonable 30.8 price-to-earnings ratio because its earnings growth has kept up with its stock price appreciation. However, analyst consensus estimates have GE Vernova earning $30.64 in 2026 earnings per share (EPS) but just $24.48 in 2027 EPS.
Investors who believe we are still in the early innings of the AI infrastructure build-out may still want to buy GE Vernova, but it's worth noting that cyclical stocks can look cheap when their trailing earnings are in an expansion cycle, and then far more expensive as earnings compress during downturns. GE Vernova could pull back just as quickly as it ran up if there's a spending slowdown, making the stock ideally suited for risk-tolerant investors willing to endure volatility.

GD vs. GE: Which Stock Is the Better Value Option?

GE Vernova (NYSE: GEV) stock went on an absolute tear in the first half of 2026, surging 79.8%, according to data provided by S&P Global Market Intelligence.

Big tech companies suddenly needed astronomical amounts of immediate, reliable, round-the-clock electricity. As the world's largest manufacturer of natural gas turbines and a leading manufacturer of electrical transmission and distribution equipment, such as transformers and switchgear, GE Vernova had the right solution on scale.
The stock nearly doubled in 2025 and continued to rally through the first six months of 2026 as order book exploded. GE Vernova's latest numbers, however, have sent the stock tumbling. What does that mean for investors?
Every GE Vernova number you must know
In early 2026, GE Vernova completed a $5.3 billion buyout of transformer manufacturer Prolec, taking 100% control of a critical supplier and instantly expanding its electrification equipment backlog. When its first-quarter numbers hit in April, the financial momentum was undeniable.
GE Vernova bagged orders worth $18.3 billion, up 71% year-over-year. The power segment (natural gas turbines) pulled in $10 billion in orders, electrification segment $7.1 billion, and wind turbine segment the remaining. Backlog hit $163 billion.
The real spark was slot reservation agreements. Gas turbine supply is so tight that data center developers and utilities are paying upfront cash deposits just to secure manufacturing slots years in advance. In Q1 alone, GE Vernova was booking slots through 2030. Those upfront payments and strong sales helped generate a jaw-dropping net margin of 50.9% and $4.8 billion in free cash flow (FCF), prompting management to raise its full-year revenue and cash flow guidance.
The cash windfall fueled aggressive capital returns. GE Vernova had doubled its dividend per share and boosted its share repurchase program by $10 billion in December 2025.
By the time June closed out, GE Vernova was no longer a sleepy industrial spinoff but an essential AI picks-and-shovels play solving the biggest challenge facing data centers.
GE Vernova stock plunges after Q2 earnings. What should you do?
The momentum has broken, or so it seems. GE Vernova dropped its Q2 numbers on July 22, and the stock plunged over 9%.
The culprit? Not the orders, not backlog. The stock got hammered because earnings fell short of consensus projections and management warned about a $100-$200 million tariff hit in 2026.
It's absurd how easily negative headlines can mask a monster quarter and trigger a knee-jerk market reaction.

Orders of $24 billion, up 88% organically
Backlog growth of $13 billion to $176 billion
FCF of $5.1 billion, more than all of 2025
2026 revenue guidance raised again to $46 billion

Expects to sell more than 50% of 2031 slots by the end of this year.
