It has also made steady progress across its key shipbuilding programs, including delivering the Flight III destroyer DDG 128 Ted Stevens, launching DDG 129 Jeremiah Denton, authenticating the keel of DDG 135 Thad Cochran and completing sea trials for DDG 1000 Zumwalt.
The company is also expanding its technological capabilities and global partnerships. It signed a memorandum of agreement with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries to explore collaboration opportunities and partnered with companies such as Babcock International, Shield AI and Thales to develop advanced underwater and cross-domain mission technologies.
Strong demand for Huntington Ingalls’ products continues to drive order growth. The company secured $16.9 billion in contract awards during 2025, resulting in a record backlog of $53.14 billion as of Dec. 31, 2025, of which about $31.99 billion was funded. Such a robust backlog provides strong revenue visibility for the coming years.
Headwinds for HII
Huntington Ingalls relies heavily on subcontractors and third-party suppliers for critical materials and components. Supply disruptions, cost increases or delays from suppliers can raise contract costs and affect project timelines, which may pressure margins if actual costs exceed pricing assumptions in government contracts.
The company’s Newport News Shipbuilding segment has also been facing performance challenges in aircraft carrier construction due to workforce shortages, supply-chain disruptions and infrastructure constraints. In 2025, the company reported unfavorable cumulative catch-up adjustments of about $350 million related to these issues. Although efforts to recruit and train new workers are ongoing, high turnover and the long training period required for specialized shipbuilding skills may continue to affect program execution in the near term.

GE Aerospace is considered one of the leading proponents of additive manufacturing. Since the 1980s, the company has been engaged in additive manufacturing research. The acquisition of a small additive company, Morris Technologies, in 2012 transformed GE’s approach to designing, leading to the first complex component made “additively” for the production of a jet engine. GE Aerospace subsequently boosted its additive manufacturing prowess in 2016 through two more acquisitions of Arcam AB and Concept Laser in Europe.
GE offers industrial metal 3D printers, powders and services to customers through its Colibrium Additive business. Colibrium Additive's EB-PBF printers are ideal for producing dimensionally accurate parts that need to be created quickly and efficiently. Its L-PBF machines use lasers to melt layers of fine metal powder and create complex geometries with precision directly from a CAD file. It produces several key components for LEAP and GE9X engines. According to GE, 3D Printing has enabled engines to be more fuel efficient.
In March 2025, GE Aerospace announced plans to invest nearly $1 billion to strengthen its production capabilities and advance the use of innovative new parts and materials. Around $100 million was earmarked for scaling innovative parts made from new materials and advanced manufacturing processes that provide engines with more range, power and efficiency. This includeed focusing on developing additive manufacturing and ceramic matrix composites (CMCs), which are one-third the weight of traditional materials yet capable of withstanding higher temperatures, ensuring greater power and durability for engines.
Earlier this month, GE Aerospace announced plans to invest another $1 billion in its U.S. manufacturing sites and supplier base during 2026. This includes $115 million in Cincinnati, OH, to modernize infrastructure, increase test cell capacity and expand advanced 3D metal printing capabilities. GE currently carries a Zacks Rank of 2.

Top 3D Printing Stocks to Buy Now for Solid Long-Term Returns

The iShares Defense Industrials Active ETF is seeing unusually high volume in afternoon trading Thursday, with over 19.2 million shares traded versus three month average volume of about 55,000. Shares of IDEF were off about 0.7% on the day.
Components of that ETF with the highest volume on Thursday were Palantir Technologies, trading up about 1.6% with over 26.9 million shares changing hands so far this session, and Red Cat Holdings, up about 0.6% on volume of over 10.6 million shares. Unusual Machines is the component faring the best Thursday, higher by about 10% on the day, while GE Aerospace is lagging other components of the iShares Defense Industrials Active ETF, trading lower by about 5.9%.

Thursday's ETF with Unusual Volume: IDEF

Key Points
Relatively low engine retirements are extending the life of the aircraft engines that the company services.
Surging demand for power for data centers is strengthening the business case for its new business converting aircraft engines into power turbines.
FTAI Aviation (NASDAQ: FTAI) shares rose by 12.3% in February, according to data from S&P Global Market Intelligence. The move continues the stock's superb performance over the last year (up 178%) and in 2026 (up 38%) at the time of writing. That kind of performance doesn't come without reason, or in this case, reasons. Simply put, FTAI's core aviation market is thriving, and its exciting new business, FTAI Power, is preparing for a bright future servicing AI data center needs.
FTAI prepares for a big year ahead
The company is best known for servicing narrow-body aircraft engines from Boeing and Airbus. While aircraft engine manufacturers, such as GE Aerospace and RTX's Pratt & Whitney, sell engines with lucrative long-term service agreements (LTSA) attached, these engines can last more than 40 years, and there's ample opportunity for FTAI to offer cost-effective servicing after the LTSA expires.

It's been a great market to be in over the last few years, as engine manufacturers struggle to ramp up production, which means older engines (such as the CFM56 and V2500) are run more.
Indeed, FTAI CEO Joseph Adams outlined on the recentearnings callthat "The long-term outlook for the aftermarket on these platforms continues to strengthen as airlines increasingly opt to extend the life of their existing fleets rather than retiring aircraft for the newest technology." Moreover, he expects total industry maintenance spending to grow to $25 billion in 2026 from $22 billion as engine retirements "remain at historically low levels" amid " heavier maintenance overhauls that signal longer economic useful life for these engine types."
That's great news for FTAI's core market. There was more good news for FTAI investors earlier in the year when it signed a multi-year agreement with CFM International (a joint venture between GE Aerospace and Safran) to provide component and service support for CFM56 engines (used on the legacy Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 family of aircraft). While it sounds counterintuitive to do a deal with a servicing rival, it benefits GE as it can ensure CFM56 engines are serviced (lengthening their life), and it supplies FTAI with parts while focusing on servicing its newer LEAP engines as part of its LTSAs.
FTAI Power powers on
The market is also very excited about FTAI Power, the company's brand-new business dedicated to converting CFM56 engines into power turbines (aeroderivatives) for data centers. Management recently confirmed it was building inventory, retrofitting its factories, and building a supply chain in anticipation of delivering its first FTAI Power aeroderivative in the fourth quarter of 2026.
What it means to investors
If you bought the stock in anticipation of ongoing strength in servicing commercial aviation engines and the potential for FTAI Power with data centers, then you would probably be pleased by the company's earnings report in February and the ongoing development of the business.
FTAI's end markets are in excellent shape, and momentum is building in 2026; as long as it continues, investors will look favorably on the stock.

GE Aerospace GE is witnessing strong momentum in the Commercial Engines & Services segment. Organic revenues from the segment increased 24% year over year in the fourth quarter of 2025, constituting more than 75% of its business. Also, in the fourth quarter, the segment’s orders increased 76% year over year to $22.8 billion.
A growing installed base and higher utilization of engine platforms, particularly in commercial & defense sectors, have set the stage for GE’s long-term growth. During 2025, the company secured a $5 billion contract from the U.S. Air Force to supply F110 engines, parts and support services as part of a Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program. Also, it received an Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract from the U.S. Army to supply F110 engines for F-15 and F-16 jets used by allied countries. It successfully tested the T901 engine on a Black Hawk helicopter and completed the design review for the new XA102 engine.

GE's Peers in the Aerospace Market
Among its major peers, Howmet Aerospace Inc. HWM is benefiting from persistent strength in the commercial aerospace market. Revenues from the commercial aerospace market increased 13% year over year (exceeding $1.1 billion) in the fourth quarter of 2025, constituting 53% of its business. Also, in the first, second and third quarters, revenues from the market increased 9%, 8% and 15%, year over year, respectively.
Its another peer, RTX Corporation RTX, is benefiting from strength in the commercial aerospace market, with growth in both aftermarket and OEM verticals. RTX reported 12.1% sales growth in the fourth quarter, driven by solid momentum in the Collins Aerospace and Pratt & Whitney segments. Rising aircraft utilization and demand for sustainable technologies are supporting RTX Corp.’s growth.

GE Gains From Strength in Commercial Engines: Can the Momentum Sustain?

Howmet Aerospace Inc.’s HWM commercial aerospace market is playing a significant role in driving its overall growth. In the fourth quarter of 2025, the company’s revenues from the commercial aerospace market increased 13% year over year, which accounted for 53% of its quarterly sales. Pickup in air travel has been positive for the company as the increased usage of aircraft has driven spending on parts and products that it provides.
This uptick significantly benefited Howmet’s Engine Products segment, which reported a 19.7% year-over-year revenue increase in the fourth quarter, supported by strong growth in commercial aerospace sales. The sustained strength was attributed to new, more fuel-efficient aircraft with reduced carbon emissions and increased spare demand for engines. With commercial aircraft programs expected to continue benefiting from the strength in air travel, HWM is poised to maintain strong demand momentum in the quarters ahead.
While the commercial aerospace market has remained the major driver for the company, the defense side of the industry is also showing positive momentum, cushioned by steady government support. Increased demand for engine spares, especially for legacy fighters like the F-35, F-15 and F-16 and rising military budgets, is fueling strong growth in this market.

Among its major peers, RTX Corporation RTX reported 12.1% sales growth in the fourth quarter of 2025. This growth was primarily driven by solid momentum in the commercial aerospace market, where RTX Corp. witnessed growth in aftermarket and OEM sales. Increase in commercial aerospace sales boosted RTX’s Collins Aerospace and Pratt & Whitney segments. Rising aircraft utilization and demand for sustainable technologies are supporting RTX Corp.’s growth.
GE Aerospace GE is benefiting from the solid demand for LEAP, GEnx & GE9X engines and services within the Commercial Engines & Services business. Revenues from the company’s Commercial Engines & Services business jumped 24% year over year to $9.47 billion in fourth-quarter 2025. This growth is supported by increasing air traffic, fleet renewal and expansion activities. During 2025, the company secured more than 500 engine wins at the Dubai Airshow, including deals from flydubai for GEnx engines and Riyadh Air for LEAP-1A engines.

Howmet Gains From Strength in Commercial Aerospace: Will the Momentum Last?

After the Fukushima disaster in 2011, the nuclear energy market suffered a decade-long decline as many countries throttled or suspended their nuclear expansion plans. But over the past few years, the nuclear market has recovered -- thanks to new decarbonization initiatives, safer reactor technologies, and the growing demand for reliable, efficient power.
According to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the world's nuclear capacity could expand by up to 2.6 times from 2024 to 2050. Therefore, it could be the right time to buy these two nuclear energy stocks: NuScale Power (NYSE:SMR) and GE Vernova (NYSE:GEV).

NuScale Power
NuScale Power develops small modular reactors (SMRs) that fit in vessels that are only 65 feet high and nine feet wide. They're prefabricated and assembled on site to reduce the time and costs required to construct a nuclear power plant. It's the only SMR maker with Standard Design Approvals (SDAs) from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), which approved its 50 MWe reactor design in 2023 and its 77 MWe design in 2025.
NuScale once planned to deploy six of its 77 MWe SMRs to build a 462 MWe plant in Idaho, but that project collapsed amid soaring costs in 2023. Today, it primarily serves as a subcontractor to Fluor (NYSE:FLR) in its planned construction of a similar 462 MWe plant for Romania's RoPower.
That project recently received its final investment decision (FID) approval, but the first reactors probably won't come online until the early 2030s. For now, it still generates most of its revenue from the front-end engineering and design (FEED) studies for this project.
NuScale also recently returned to the U.S. by agreeing to deploy up to six gigawatts of SMR capacity across seven states for the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). However, the first reactors for that ambitious project probably won't be installed until 2032.
With a market cap of $4 billion, NuScale might seem overvalued at 45 times this year's sales. However, analysts expect its annual revenue to more than triple from $88 million in 2026 to $287 million in 2028 as it expands its FEED studies, transitions some of its memorandums of understanding (MOUs) into binding contracts, and licenses its technology to more companies.
That said, the real growth story could start in the next decade when it finally deploys its first SMRs. When that happens, NuScale could expand and evolve into a much larger nuclear company -- so it might be smart to nibble on its stock today before that happens.
GE Vernova
If NuScale seems a bit too speculative, GE Vernova -- the former energy division of GE (NYSE:GE) that was spun off in 2024 -- might be a more balanced bet.
Last year, over half of its total orders came from its Power segment, which produces gas turbines for combined-cycle plants, steam turbines for coal, gas, and nuclear plants, and services for nuclear power plants. Its Electrification business, which accounted for nearly a third of its 2025 orders, sells transformers, breakers, substations, high-voltage direct current systems, and automation, optimization, and protection services for electrical grids.
Its Power and Electrification businesses both profited from the rapid expansion of the power-hungry cloud, data center, and AI markets over the past year, and that growth offset the slower growth of its smaller Wind business, which sells onshore and offshore wind turbines.
Over the next few years, GE Vernova plans to continue expanding its higher-growth Power and Electrification businesses while right-sizing its weaker Wind business. It definitely isn't a "pure play" nuclear stock like NuScale. Still, it's bigger, better diversified, firmly profitable, and will benefit from the same tech-driven tailwinds for the broader energy market.
From 2025 to 2028, analysts expect GE Vernova's revenue and adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) to grow at CAGRs of 15% and 54%, respectively. With an enterprise value of $217 billion, it might seem a bit pricey at 38 times this year's adjusted EBITDA -- but its core strengths should justify that higher valuation.

However, one must be mindful that there remain several factors beyond this single conflict that are poised to support defense stocks over the long term. Those factors are:
Modernization Cycles: Global powers are in the midst of multi-year cycles to upgrade their aging nuclear triad and satellite-based surveillance.
Geopolitical Realignment: The latest friction between Pakistan and Afghanistan, coupled with tensions in Eastern Europe, might lead to a further increase in NATO and Asian defense budgets.

ITA has gained 16.7% year to date. The fund charges 38 basis points (bps) in fees. It traded at a good volume of 2.69 million shares in the last trading session.
Global X Defense Tech ETF SHLD
This fund, with net assets worth $7.72 billion, offers exposure to 49 defense technology companies. Its top five holdings constitute major defense contractors: LMT (9.50%), RTX (8.10%), General Dynamics (7.14%), Rheinmetall (6.41%), and Palantir Technology (5.79%). BAESY holds the eighth position in this fund, with 4.74% weightage.
SHLD has grown 19% year to date. The fund charges 50 bps in fees. It traded at a good volume of 4.64 million shares in the last trading session.
Invesco Aerospace & Defense ETF PPA
This fund, with a market value worth $8.24 billion, includes 61 companies involved in the development, manufacturing, operations and support of U.S. defense, homeland security and aerospace operations. Its top five holdings include core-defense contractors: LMT (9.06%), RTX (8.51%), GE (8.45%), Boeing (8.15%) and Northrop Grumman (6.17%).
PPA has gained 18.5% year to date. The fund charges 58 bps in fees. It traded at a volume of 0.66 million shares in the last trading session.
