Howmet Aerospace Inc. HWM has been grappling with rising costs and expenses over time. HWM reported an uptick in costs and expenses during the second quarter of 2025. The company’s adjusted EBITDA margin improved from 26.5% in the third quarter of 2024 to 26.8% in the fourth quarter and further jumped to 28.8% in the first quarter of 2025. In the second quarter of 2025, HWM sustained this momentum with a margin of 28.7%, marking a 300-basis point improvement year over year.
Also, the Engine Products, Fastening Systems and Engineered Structures segments posted adjusted EBITDA margin improvements of 200, 360 and 690 basis points in the second quarter, respectively, supported by manufacturing footprint optimization and a favorable product mix. Strong pricing strategies, disciplined cost control and enhanced operational efficiency have helped Howmet Aerospace sustain its margin performance.
Strong momentum in both the commercial and defense aerospace markets is further supporting its performance. Driven by strength across its businesses, HWM has raised its 2025 guidance for adjusted EBITDA margin. The company now expects adjusted EBITDA margin to be between 28.5% and 28.6% in 2025 compared with 27.8-28.2% projected earlier. This raise shows HWM’s confidence in delivering solid performance for the rest of the year.

RTX Corporation’s RTX total costs and expenses increased 6.4% year over year to $19.48 billion in the second quarter of 2025. RTX Corp. generated an adjusted operating profit of $2.79 billion. RTX Corp.’s Collins Aerospace segment’s adjusted operating profit totaled $1.25 billion compared with $1.15 billion in the year-ago quarter.

SPY, GE, CAT, UBER: ETF Outflow Alert

GE Aerospace GE recently entered into a partnership and equity investment agreement with BETA Technologies Inc. (“BETA”), pending regulatory approval. The collaboration aims to advance the development of hybrid electric aviation by pairing BETA’s strong innovation capabilities with GE’s industry expertise.
Based in South Burlington, VT, BETA is engaged in producing, designing and offering electric aircraft, propulsion systems, components and charging solutions to operators across the globe. BETA develops advanced technologies that support safe and cost-efficient operations across the cargo, logistics, defense, passenger and medical end markets.
Inside the Headlines
This deal is in sync with GE Aerospace’s goal of boosting the development of hybrid electric propulsion systems. This partnership is built on BETA’s proficiency in permanent magnet electric generators (PMGs) with GE’s leadership in engine solutions.
Per the latest deal, the two companies will focus on creating a hybrid electric turbogenerator for Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) applications. It will be intended for vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft, upcoming BETA aircraft models and other possible uses. The collaboration will leverage GE’s strong innovation capabilities and expertise in CT7 and T700 engines, along with BETA’s proficiency in advanced PMG systems. This will enable both companies to develop a hybrid electric turbogenerator that offers customers greater range, payload and enhanced engine performance.
Also, subject to regulatory conditions, GE Aerospace is expected to invest $300 million in BETA. The company will have the right to appoint a director to BETA’s board.

GE and BETA Partner to Strengthen Hybrid Electric Aviation Capabilities

Howmet Aerospace Inc. HWM is benefiting from strong momentum in the commercial aerospace market, which remains its key growth driver. In the second quarter of 2025, the commercial aerospace market contributed more than half of the company’s revenues, accounting for 52% of the total business. In the same period, sales from this market grew 8% year over year, following a 9% increase in the first quarter.
Air travel demand has remained resilient through 2024 and into 2025, which is fueling the demand for wide-body aircraft and also encouraging original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to increase their spending. This trend has been positive for Howmet, as higher aircraft usage results in increased demand for the parts and products it supplies. Also, airlines are increasingly investing in fuel-efficient, lower-emission aircraft, which benefits the company given its role as a key supplier of advanced components.
Positive production trends at major aircraft manufacturers support Howmet’s performance as well. Boeing is expected to gradually recover production, particularly for its 737 MAX jets, following the resolution of a worker strike. This recovery is likely to increase demand for Howmet’s engine spares and other components. Also, Airbus is maintaining healthy build rates for its A320/321 aircraft, creating additional opportunities for HWM in the engine spares demand.
Strong travel demand and rising aircraft production are expected to keep fueling Howmet’s momentum. The commercial aerospace market will likely remain its primary business catalyst in the near term.

Among its major peers, Textron Inc. TXT reported 5.4% sales growth in the second quarter of 2025. Revenues from Textron’s Aviation segment increased 2.8% year over year in the same period. The solid performance of Textron’s segment was primarily driven by higher aftermarket parts and services revenues, in addition to increased aircraft revenues.
It’s another peer, GE Aerospace GE, is riding on the solid demand for LEAP, GEnx & GE9X engines and services within the Commercial Engines & Services business. Revenues from GE Aerospace’s Commercial Engines & Services business jumped 30% year over year in second-quarter 2025. This growth is supported by increasing air traffic, fleet renewal and expansion activities. During the second quarter, GE Aerospace inked a deal with Qatar Airways to supply more than 400 GE9X and GEnx engines. It represents the largest widebody engine deal in the company’s history.

1985's biggest companies
There isn't absolute agreement on which companies qualify as 1985's biggest. Energy outfit ExxonMobil as we know it today didn't exist until Exxon merged with Mobil in 1999, for instance, while General Electric has since been carved up into several different industrial entities. It also seems like AT&T is missing from this list, but remember, the 1980s were an era of significant breakups and acquisitions in the telecom industry, including the breakup of Bell the year before. This design significantly improves efficiency, as the cold bypass air generates more thrust than the hot core air. Consequently, using a larger volume of low-velocity cold air is more efficient for producing thrust than relying on a smaller amount of high-velocity hot air.
As such, an open fan engine developed through RISE research could result in a 20% improvement in fuel efficiency and be compatible with sustainable aviation fuels, according to CFM. This would go a long way toward reducing airline costs and helping airline companies meet their emissions goals.
Such an engine could dramatically change the investing landscape, as it could offer significant benefits over rival engines, such as those offered by RTX, and give an edge to aircraft manufacturers that adopt it in their planes (Airbus is currently in pole position and is running tests with CFM), as well as the aftermarket and services market.
Nvidia and the next generation of data centers
Booming demand for AI applications is putting stress on data center infrastructure, as well as the power required to support data centers, and even the raw materials necessary to build them. Consequently, Nvidia and its partners are developing the architecture for a new, more efficient, and cost-effective type of data center set to launch in 2027.
The new 800-volt (V) high-voltage direct current (HVDC) data centers will involve a fundamental redesign, which converts 13.8 kV alternating current (AC) into 800 V DC at the perimeter of the data center. Then it is routed to the IT rack, where it's transformed into the lower DC voltages required for the IT rack.
In comparison, in existing data centers, the power from the grid is stepped down to a lower AC voltage, and then converted to DC voltage within the rack using power supply units (PSU).
The key difference is that existing data centers use low voltage/high current, while new data centers operate at high voltage/low current. This allows them to deliver the same power with less current, improving efficiency, reducing heat, and requiring less copper wiring.
Nvidia believes this will result in a 5% improvement in efficiency, as well as a 70% reduction in maintenance costs, thereby cutting the cost of data center ownership by 30%.
The improvements are significant, which is why shares in partners like Vertiv and Navitas Semiconductor stocks have soared this year. This is why ON Semiconductor stock could be an excellent investment to consider right now.
Tesla's robotaxis
Traditionally, automakers produced internal combustion engine (ICE) cars for individual owners, who drove them for years. While ICE cars are generally cheaper to purchase than electric vehicles (EVs), they have higher operating and maintenance costs.
The model encourages automakers to maximize margins by continually developing new cars for a price-competitive market. Fuel companies, distributors, and service providers share a significant portion of ICE car expenses, particularly for vehicles that spend a considerable amount of time parked.
In contrast, EVs offer low running and maintenance costs, and a larger part of the expenditure on the car is in the up-front costs. These facts mean two things that auto investors need to consider:
As EV automakers build scale (and Tesla remains by far the leading player in the U.S.), they should be able to cut cost per vehicle, and a cut in the up-front cost of an EV has a much larger impact on its long-term value than the same cut in an ICE car will produce.
The most economical use of an EV is as a robotaxi, where its low running costs can be best taken advantage of.
It's not just that Tesla's robotaxis (if they prove to be commercially viable) will revolutionize the ride-hailing industry; they will also change the way the auto industry operates and how people perceive transportation.
