It's hard to imagine GE Vernova (NYSE: GEV) CEO Scott Strazik wasn't tempted to give his former boss, and current GE Aerospace (NYSE: GE) CEO Larry Culp, a call last week. After all, the company he runs, a spinoff of the former General Electric, surpassed GE Aerospace in market capitalization for the first time. It's an incredible event that no one could have predicted a few years ago.
GE Vernova overtakes GE Aerospace
In context, the core businesses that Strazik now manages (gas power turbines) were once at the epicenter of General Electric's problems in 2018, when Culp took over the company. In fact, the mid- to late-2010s were a grim period for the gas turbine industry, when it faced genuine questions about its long-term structural future as renewable energy appeared to be on an inexorable rise. As such, analysts used to price in more value for GE's renewable energy (wind power) business (now part of GE Vernova) than for GE Power (now GE Vernova's core business).

That's all changed now. A comparison of gas turbine orders in 2018 and 2025, and for only the first three months of 2026, shows just how things have changed. Of particular note is GE Vernova's largest turbine, the HA turbine, which received more than four times as many orders in 2025 as in 2018, and is increasingly used to power AI data centers.

The improvement is even more stark when focusing on HA turbine orders over the last three years. The thirst to secure power for AI data centers is so strong that GE Vernova's order book is booming.
GE Vernova has gone from a business effectively subsidized in the past by other former GE businesses (notably the GE Aviation businesses that are now part of GE Aerospace) to one that surpassed GE Aerospace last week, driven by the power and electrification businesses. Currently, both companies have a market cap of around $290 billion.
Great technology, great management
It's not as if GE Aerospace has underperformed; in fact, its stock is up 97% over the last three years, and it's not just a matter of being in the right place at the right time to catch the AI boom.
There are two considerations. First, the former GE always had some great technology, and since it tended to operate in long-cycle industries with products that can last decades, that's a major plus because it means it could capture industry upswings. That's exactly what happened with GE Aerospace's joint venture, CFM International, whose LEAP engine is the sole engine on the Boeing 737 MAX and one of two on the Airbus A320neo family of aircraft. It's also the case with GE Vernova's HA and other turbines.
In fact, even CFM's older engine, the CFM56, is being converted to power data centers by FTAI Aviation. Meanwhile, even in the dark days of 2018, the HA turbine was winning market share in a weak market.
Second, both companies have benefited from excellent management. While Culp's tenure at General Electric and later at GE Aerospace will go down in corporate legend, Strazik also has an impressive resume. He was responsible for turning around the ailing GE Power services business as head of GE Power (appointed in 2018) and has successfully positioned GE Vernova for the growth it has enjoyed in recent years.
In addition, the growing need to update electric grids, connect renewable energy to the grid, and invest in substations has driven strong growth in GE Vernova's electrification business. However, Strazik needed to position the company to take advantage of it, and it was far from clear whether the market would pick up in this manner a few years ago.
Where to next for both companies
Unfortunately, the conflict in Iran is holding back GE Aerospace's growth prospects, especially if a long period of relatively high oil prices leads to aircraft engine retirements. Still, the company handily beat expectations in the first quarter, and a quick resolution to the conflict is likely to send Culp's company's stock higher.
Meanwhile, Strazik just raised GE Vernova's full-year revenue, earnings, and cash flow guidance due to surging orders, and as long as hyperscalers keep ramping AI spending, the outlook is good for GE Vernova. Both companies are in the right place at the right time, but they didn't get to take advantage of it by accident.

Something Amazing That No One Predicted Just Happened in the Markets (Yes, AI Is at the Center of It)

At Holdings Channel, we have reviewed the latest batch of the 64 most recent 13F filings for the 03/31/2026 reporting period, and noticed that GE Aerospace (Symbol: GE) was held by 27 of these funds. When hedge fund managers appear to be thinking alike, we find it is a good idea to take a closer look.
Before we proceed, it is important to point out that 13F filings do not tell the whole story, because these funds are only required to disclose their long positions with the SEC, but are not required to disclose their short positions. A fund making a bearish bet against a stock by shorting calls, for example, might also be long some amount of stock as they trade around their overall bearish position. This long component could show up in a 13F filing and everyone might assume the fund is bullish, but this tells only part of the story because the bearish/short side of the position is not seen.
Having given that caveat, we believe that looking at groups of 13F filings can be revealing, especially when comparing one holding period to another. Below, let's take a look at the change in GE positions, for this latest batch of 13F filers:

Earnings Season Surprises

GE Aerospace GE and Howmet Aerospace Inc. HWM are two prominent names operating in the aerospace and defense industry. As rivals, both companies are engaged in producing highly engineered aircraft components for commercial and military aircraft in the United States and internationally.
Both companies have been enjoying significant growth opportunities in the aerospace and defense space on account of the improving air traffic trend and the expansionary U.S. budgetary policy in the past couple of years. Let’s take a closer look at their fundamentals, growth prospects and challenges.
The Case for GE Aerospace
GE Aerospace is benefiting from its growing installed base and higher utilization of engine platforms, supported by strength across commercial & defense sectors. Growing popularity for LEAP, GEnx & GE9X engines and services, supported by growth in air traffic, fleet renewal and expansion activities, is driving its Commercial Engines & Services business.
In the first quarter of 2026, GE’s total orders climbed 87% year over year to $23 billion. Commercial wins included agreements for more than 650 engines, featuring commitments tied to LEAP-1A and GEnx platforms, alongside a long-term materials agreement to support Ryanair’s fleet of about 2,000 CFM56 and LEAP engines.
Operationally, GE pointed to progress under its FLIGHT DECK lean model, including supplier improvements that contributed to commercial services revenues rising 39% year over year. Total engine deliveries increased 43% from the prior-year quarter, indicating better throughput as the company works through customer demand.
Solid demand for the company’s propulsion & additive technologies, critical aircraft systems and aftermarket services in the defense sector is boosting the Defense & Propulsion Technologies business’ performance. In the first quarter, revenues from GE’s Defense & Systems were up 14% on growth in both services and equipment, including unit deliveries rising 24%. Propulsion & Additive Technologies revenues grew 29%, led by Avio Aero.
The company remains focused on rewarding its shareholders handsomely through dividends and share repurchases. In first-quarter 2026, GE paid dividends of $381 million, up 26.2% year over year, to its shareholders. In the same period, it bought back shares for $2.2 billion. Also, the company raised its dividend by 30.6% to 36 cents per share in February 2026.
Despite the positives, GE has been dealing with the adverse impacts of the high cost of sales and operating expenses. In the first quarter, its cost of sales surged 32% year over year to $7.9 billion. Also, research and development expenses totaled $440 million, reflecting a year-over-year rise of 22.6%. The rising debt level remains another concern. Exiting the first quarter, GE Aerospace’s long-term debt was $18.2 billion.
The Case for Howmet
The strongest driver of Howmet’s business at the moment is the commercial aerospace market. With growth in air travel, demand for wide-body aircraft has increased, supporting continued OEM spending. Pickup in air travel has been favorable for the company as the increased usage of aircraft spurs spending on parts and products that it provides.
The sustained strength was attributed to strong demand for engine spares and a record backlog for new, more fuel-efficient aircraft with reduced carbon emissions. Also, healthy build rates at Airbus for A320 and A350 aircraft, along with the production recovery in the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, hold promise for HWM’s spare engine demand.
Howmet has also been witnessing strength in the defense aerospace industry, cushioned by steady government support. Solid orders for engine spares for the F-35 program and spares for legacy fighters like the F-15 and the F-16 are augmenting HWM’s performance. Robust defense budgetary provisions set the stage for Howmet, which remains focused on its business to win more contracts, which is likely to boost its top line.
HWM’s measures to reward shareholders are encouraging, too. In 2025, the company paid dividends of $181 million and repurchased shares worth $700 million. Also, in August 2025, the company hiked its dividend by 20% to 12 cents per share (annually: 48 cents), marking its second dividend hike in 2025. The company’s healthy liquidity position also adds to its strength.
However, HWM has been experiencing high input costs and operating expenses. In 2025, the cost of goods sold jumped 6.1% year over year to $5.4 billion due to increasing input costs. Selling, general, administrative and other expenses (SG&A) also increased 6.6% to $370 million.
Price Performance
In the past year, GE Aerospace shares have gained 41.7%, while Howmet stock has surged 77.8%.

In contrast, Howmet’s market leadership position and strength in both the commercial and defense aerospace markets provide it with a competitive advantage to leverage the long-term demand prospects in the aerospace market. Despite its steeper valuation, HWM holds robust prospects due to strong estimates, stock price appreciation and healthy fundamentals. Given these factors, HWM seems to be a better pick for investors than GE currently.

GE Aerospace vs. Howmet: Which Aerospace & Defense Stock Has Greater Upside?

The fact that GE Vernova (NYSE: GEV) just walloped its first-quarter earnings estimates isn't exactly surprising. Thanks to the proliferation of artificial intelligence (AI) data centers, the world's suffering a serious shortage of electricity. GE Vernova makes power-producing equipment. End of story.
The matter isn't quite so simple for investors who already own or are eying this stock, though. See, the crowd's been bidding GEV shares higher for some time now, anticipating last quarter's smashing success. Now there's a not-so-small valuation problem.

An unsurprisingly good quarter
GE Vernova turned more than $9.34 billion in revenue into an adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) of $896 million during the three months ending in March. Those numbers are up 16% and 96% year over year, respectively, and measurably better than the $9.25 billion and $772 million analysts were expecting.
The future looks bright, too. The company raised its full-year outlook, from previous revenue guidance of $44 billion to $45 billion to a range of between $44.5 billion and $45.5 billion, inflating projected profit margin and cash-flow figures accordingly.
Its power-production division is driving most of this past and future growth, of course, as demand for its natural gas turbines ramps up. This arm did nearly $5 billion worth of reported business last quarter, but received $10 billion worth of new orders. All told, the company's total backlog now stands at $163.3 billion, up 40% from the end of last year's Q1. That said, GE Vernova's wind power and electrification arms are doing well, too, with electrification seeing 61% year-over-year revenue growth during the first quarter to just under $3 billion, and adding $7.1 billion in new orders of its own.
It all sounds fantastic. Just don't be too quick to dive into this well-proven company's stock.
How to handle it from here
This is still just the beginning, too. The International Energy Agency expects worldwide demand for power to grow an average of 3.5% per year through 2030. That doesn't seem like much. But for a slow-moving industry that's already stretched thin, that's a lot.
And all of this opportunity may already be reflected in GEV stock's price, and then some. Shares of this 2024 spinoff from industrial giant GE are up more than 700% since then, and higher by more than 300% from last year's low when the global electricity crunch became undeniable. This move has pushed GEV shares up to 80 times this year's expected earnings, and more than 50 times next year's projected profits. The stock's current price doesn't start making sense until you get to 2028's forecast earnings of $29.85 per share.
That, however, is a long time for an already overvalued ticker to hold its ground, let alone continue rallying. Indeed, while Tuesday's Q1 report was clearly bullish for the stock, the big move might also be the surge that starts a wave of profit-taking.
This might tell you all you need to know: Analysts' current consensus price target of $968.05 is 14% below GEV's present price.
Just leave it on your watch list. Any sizable pullback is also a long-term buying opportunity.

GE Vernova Just Beat Earnings by a Mile. Is This the Energy Stock to Own Right Now?

GE Aerospace posted strong first-quarter results, but the stock declined due to macro risks.
The Persian Gulf conflict and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz is pressuring flight departures and future service revenue.
Management's guidance assumes oil prices will normalize by year-end; risks remain if conflict persists.
GE Aerospace (NYSE: GE) just reported first-quarter earnings that beat Wall Street estimates. Highlights included an adjusted year-over-year revenue increase of 29% and a whopping 87% increase in orders spread across a 93% increase in commercial engines and services (CES) and a 67% increase in defense and propulsion technologies (DPT). However, the stock declined 4.5% on the day of the earnings release. There's something else going on here, and that "something" is the risk of a prolonged conflict in the Persian Gulf.
GE Aerospace had an excellent quarter
It wasn't just a strong first quarter; management also expects an excellent second quarter with services growth in the high teens (a figure above the full-year guidance for mid-teens growth), driven by the fact that "95% of the spare parts for second quarter are in the backlog. All the engines that we need to work on for second quarter are in the shop" according to CFO Rahul Ghai on the earnings call.

In addition, CEO Larry Culp noted that its pipeline of "planned engine removals in the second and third quarters, combined with engines that are currently off wing, exceeds our shop visit guide." Shop visits are when engines are removed from aircraft and sent for maintenance, repair, and overhaul -- the single most important earnings driver for the company.
With a forecast-busting first quarter in print and an excellent outlook for the second and third quarters in place, management was moved to tell investors that it was trending toward the high end of its full-year 2026 guidance of $7.10 to $7.40 in earnings per share, and $8 billion to $8.4 billion in free cash flow.
That's fine, but why didn't management raise its full-year guidance?
The conflict in Iran is having an impact
A higher price of crude oil leads to higher jet fuel prices, and a shortage of crude oil at refineries leads to an increase in the spread between crude oil and jet fuel prices. It gets worse. Europe and Asia also source jet fuel that passes through the Strait of Hormuz, with the U.K. particularly exposed.
These issues led GE Aerospace to lower its forecast for full-year flight departures growth (using engines from GE or its joint venture, CFM International) to flat to low-single-digit growth from a previous estimate of mid-single-digit growth. Fewer flight departures eventually translate to reduced demand for engine servicing and the possibility of increased engine retirements. Both would be bad for GE Aerospace, as they reduce near-term revenue from shop visits and push out services revenue due to the retirement of older engines, which tend to require more servicing than newer engines.
What's next for GE Aerospace
Management's assumptions include no global recession and that "Brent crude price remains elevated through 3Q, reducing by year-end." It's an assumption shared by the oil futures market, and, as history shows and GE management notes, the bounce-back in flight departures after a downturn tends to be strong. That said, if the oil futures market is wrong and the conflict leads to a sustained period of relatively high oil prices, GE's 2027 earnings potential will be impaired.
For now, investors should stay positive, but monitor events closely and consider buying some energy-related stocks to help manage the risk of an extended period of relatively high oil prices.

Exchange traded funds (ETFs) trade just like stocks, but instead of ''shares'' investors are actually buying and selling ''units''. These ''units'' can be traded back and forth just like stocks, but can also be created or destroyed to accommodate investor demand. Each week we monitor the week-over-week change in shares outstanding data, to keep a lookout for those ETFs experiencing notable inflows (many new units created) or outflows (many old units destroyed). Creation of new units will mean the underlying holdings of the ETF need to be purchased, while destruction of units involves selling underlying holdings, so large flows can also impact the individual components held within ETFs.

Notable Two Hundred Day Moving Average Cross - GE

Peace talks are apparently back on for today between the U.S. and Iran, as they were a week ago in Islamabad, Pakistan. Hopes are high for a near-term deal that would open the Strait of Hormuz and eventually have Iran give up its uranium-enrichment program for building nuclear weapons.
It’s a big ask, I’m sure all would agree. But oil prices are now below $90 per barrel (/bbl) on WTI and $95/bbl on Brent crude. Pre-market futures also look healthy on this promise. The Dow is leading the major indexes at this hour: +286 points, +0.58%, the S&P 500 is +25 points, +0.36%, the Nasdaq +118 points, +0.44%, and the small-cap Russell 2000 +12 points, +0.45%.
Retail Sales Jump Month over Month
The March print on U.S. Retail Sales is out ahead of today’s open, +1.7% versus expectations for +1.5%, and 100 basis points (bps) up month over month from the upwardly revised +0.7%. This March number is the highest we’ve seen since January 2023. Ex-autos, this figure rises another 20 bps to +1.9%, +0.5% higher than anticipated and an upwardly revised +0.7% the prior month. Again, this is the highest read we’ve seen since January three years ago.
Gas stations for the month rose +15.5% in retail sales, which turbo-charged these month-over-month gains. Year over year, +4.0% is the new headline, +30 bps from the prior month. For some context, this is still below the average +4.74% from 1993-2026.
What to Expect After Today’s Open
Two economic reports await investors a half-hour after today’s opening bell. It’s expected that Business Inventories for February will have swung back to positive +0.3% versus -0.1% the previous month. Pending Home Sales for March are expected to land in positive territory for the second-straight month, though lower: +0.5% versus the prior print of +1.8%, which was the highest since November.
Earnings Results Ahead of the Bell: MMM, GE & More
St. Paul, MN-based 3M MMM posted mixed results in its Q1 earnings report released this morning. Earnings of $2.14 per share easily surpassed the Zacks consensus of $2.02. Revenues of $6.00 billion came in a smidge below the $6.02 billion analysts were expecting, but up from the $5.78 billion in the year-ago quarter. Shares are down -3% on the news, but the stock had gained +15.2% year to date.
GE Aerospace GE posted big positive surprises on both top and bottom lines in its Q1 report this morning. Earnings of $1.86 per share was well above the $1.61 consensus, for a +15.5% surprise, while revenues in the quarter of $11.61 billion outpaced expectations by +9.1%, and much higher than the $9 billion reported a year ago. But a 44x forward P/E and some margin pressures expected in its Commercial Engines business is helping move the stock down -3.7%.
UnitedHealth UNH came in strongly ahead of Q1 estimates this morning, with earnings of $7.23 per share up +11.9% from the Zacks consensus of $6.46 per share. Revenues of $111.72 billion outperformed estimates by +2.07%, and the health insurance major is up +7% in today’s pre-market trading, swinging to positive gains year to date.
Homebuilder D.R. Horton DHI was mixed in its fiscal Q2 report this morning. Earnings of $2.24 per share bettered the $2.15 estimate, for a +4.2% positive surprise (though down from the $2.58 per share released in the year-ago quarter). Revenues of $7.56 billion wound up -1.33% from estimates. Shares are up nearly +7% at this hour, after the stock having gained +6% year to date.
After today’s closing bell, we’ll see new quarterly results from Intuitive Surgical ISRG, United Airlines UAL and Capital One COF.
