Fox Corporation operates as a news, sports, and entertainment company in the United States (U.S.). The company operates through four segments: Cable Network Programming, Television, Credible, and The FOX Studio Lot. The Cable Network Programming segment produces and licenses news and sports content for distribution through traditional cable television systems, direct broadcast satellite operators and telecommunication companies, virtual multi-channel video programming distributors, and other digital platforms primarily in the U.S. Television segment produces, acquires, markets, and distributes programming through the FOX broadcast network, advertising supported video-on-demand service Tubi, and operates power broadcast television stations including duopolies and other digital platform; and produces content for third parties. The Credible segment engages in the consumer finance marketplace. The FOX Studio Lot segment provides television and film production services along with office space, studio operation services and includes all operations of the facility. The company was incorporated in 2018 and is headquartered in New York, New York.

Fox Corporation’s strong liquidity and solid profitability are accompanied by a notable premium in market valuation. The company maintains a current ratio of 2.90 and a quick ratio of 2.65, indicating a comfortable margin of safety, while a debt/equity ratio of 0.60 looks moderate and better than the industry median. At the same time, long-term debt of around $6.6 billion remains significant, so the balance sheet cannot be called risk-free, although the leverage is manageable. Overall, the efficiency picture is good: ROE of 14.72%, ROA of 7.67%, and ROI of 9.39% are above the industry median, and an operating margin of 20.05% confirms the company’s ability to generate operating profit. On the other hand, the gross margin of 36.84% is below the industry median, which points to weaker gross economics and limits the potential for further margin expansion. Revenue, EBITDA, operating income, and net income on a TTM basis remain at high absolute levels, but the trend does not appear to be sustainably accelerating: some annual series show pullbacks from stronger quarters. EPS and net income look strong relative to the industry, but the forecast EPS is noticeably below the current TTM level, suggesting more restrained market expectations for the near term. The valuation picture is mixed: P/E and P/FCF are slightly below the median, but P/S and P/B are significantly higher, which usually means the market is paying a premium for asset quality and business stability. The dividend yield of 0.47% has declined compared with previous periods, so dividends are not currently a strong driver of revaluation. Growth in equity and a high return on tangible equity support the investment case, but weak gross margin and premium P/S and P/B ratios limit upside potential. In the end, the fundamentals are more high-quality than cheap: the company appears financially stable, but not undervalued enough to justify an aggressive increase in the target valuation. For an investor, this means a moderately positive business profile with limited potential for multiple expansion and a need to monitor revenue, margin, and earnings forecast trends.

On July 20, Netflix (NASDAQ: NFLX) filed a couple of Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) documents with "prospectus" in their names. My heart rate ticked up a bit. In a summer where every media company seems to be buying, selling, or spinning off something, my first move was to hunt for the "use of proceeds" section of Netflix's filings. Was the company loading up for another acquisition run?
Luckily, my blood pressure has returned to normal. Netflix is just refinancing $1 billion in debt that was about to mature. Old notes out, new notes in. The interest rate is higher (5.250% versus 4.375%), reflecting recent inflation trends, but this is the financial equivalent of rolling over a CD at your local bank.

Boring. Routine. Totally fine. The new debt is just replacing the old one, two days before the expiration date. That's a relief, frankly.
Meanwhile, in Hollywood...
The media industry has been reshuffling at a dizzying pace this year. Fox is buying Roku. Comcast decided NBCUniversal would be happier living on its own and announced a spin-off. Lionsgate (NYSE: LION) is standing on the corner holding a "will sell studio to good home" sign since spinning off from Starz Entertainment last year. And the Warner Bros. Discovery (NASDAQ: WBD) situation has more plot twists than an Agatha Christie whodunnit.
Netflix, of course, was part of the Warner story. The company bid $82.7 billion for Warner's studios and streaming assets back in December. For a brief moment, it looked like Netflix might finally get its hands on a legacy content library; the one thing every major competitor has that Netflix doesn't.
Then, Paramount Skydance showed up with $111 billion and a willingness to take on approximately all the debt in Hollywood. Netflix took one look at the new price tag, said "thanks, but no thanks," and walked away.
Insider reports say that Netflix also considered buying back Roku, its own former media-streaming hardware division. It didn't make financial sense and management walked away without making an official bid.
Lucky breaks or missed opportunities?
Honestly? Probably the former. Warner's library is incredible. Beyond classic films like Casablanca, The Matrix, and Sinners, the company runs HBO, DC Comics, and The Food Network. But $111 billion is a lot of money, and even Oracle founder Larry Ellison's financial backing might not be enough. Paramount Skydance's deal is currently stuck in legal limbo after a dozen state attorneys general decided they had opinions about media consolidation.
Netflix, meanwhile, is doing just fine without a legacy studio in its pocket. Revenue is up 47% over three years. Net income more than tripled over the same period. Subscriber growth is continuing despite a streaming market that's supposedly saturated. The self-made content strategy that skeptics questioned for years appears to be working.
Building something different
Here's what I find interesting about Netflix's current trajectory: The company seems less interested in forming another traditional media conglomerate and more interested in becoming something else entirely.
Video games are a growing part of the business. Netflix House is bringing the brand into physical entertainment spaces. There's a future here that looks less like "streaming service with a studio" and more like a diversified entertainment empire.
Some of the trappings should look similar to the existing Comcast/Universal and Walt Disney powerhouses. I imagine theme parks, hotels, gaming, live experiences... the works. Disney built that model over decades through acquisitions and clever land deals. Netflix might try to build it from scratch.
The movie and TV business is enormous, especially on a global scale. However, it might not be enormous enough for where Netflix wants to go. Why fight over Warner Bros. when you could be building Netflix World, starting far behind the scenes?
For now, the company is keeping its powder dry, refinancing debt, and letting everyone else write the dramatic headlines. In a summer of Hollywood chaos, that's not the worst strategy.

Fox Buys Roku, and Now Comcast Is Spinning Off NBCUniversal. Does Netflix Need to Make a Big Move This Summer?

The streaming-content industry is entering a new phase. Subscriber growth and exclusive programming still matter, but the competitive focus has broadened toward advertising, live sports, creator-led video and distribution control. Platforms increasingly resemble digital television networks, combining on-demand libraries with scheduled events, targeted advertising, paid upgrades and channel bundles.
The shift favors companies that are able to monetize the same audience through several channels rather than relying solely on monthly subscription fees. Alphabet Inc. GOOGL, Amazon.com, Inc. AMZN and Fox Corporation FOXA approach that transition from different starting points, but each owns assets that could benefit as television audiences fragment across digital platforms.
The change is visible in viewing data. Streaming captured a record 47.5% of U.S. television use in December 2025, according to Nielsen, while Christmas Day generated more than 55 billion streaming minutes. In the first quarter of 2026, streaming accounted for a record 46.6% of ad-supported television viewing. These figures matter because advertising dollars generally follow audience attention, although measurement changes and seasonal events can cause meaningful month-to-month volatility.
Live programming is becoming an especially important differentiator. Nielsen’s Gracenote reported in May 2026 that sports represented 5% of programming across leading global subscription-streaming catalogs and was the fastest-growing content category it tracked. Sports can attract large audiences at predictable times, reduce churn and provide premium advertising inventory. At the same time, free ad-supported streaming television (FAST) is expanding the addressable market among viewers unwilling to add another paid service.
The medium-term outlook remains constructive, but the industry is not becoming easier. Content and sports-rights costs are rising, consumers can switch services quickly, and advertisers have numerous digital alternatives. Regulators are also scrutinizing platform power, data practices and large media combinations. However, within that environment, Alphabet, which offers creator-led scale through YouTube; Amazon, which links streaming to Prime and commerce; and Fox, which provides focused exposure to free streaming and connected-TV advertising, are poised to excel.

Alphabet established a position in online video through its 2006 acquisition of YouTube. Originally centered on user-uploaded clips, YouTube has evolved into an entertainment platform offering short videos, long-form creator content, music, podcasts, films, live television and professional sports. This range sets it apart from streaming services focused on studio-produced movies and series.
YouTube also reflects the industry’s move toward diversified monetization. It earns advertising revenues across phones, computers and connected TVs while generating subscription income from YouTube Premium, YouTube Music, YouTube TV and NFL Sunday Ticket. Because creators provide much of the content and share advertising revenues, Alphabet relies less on a traditional studio production model.
Audience scale remains the central advantage. YouTube said it had ranked first in U.S. streaming watch time for nearly three years as of January 2026, while YouTube Shorts was averaging more than 200 billion daily views. Nielsen subsequently reported that YouTube held 13.4% of total U.S. television watch time in April 2026, the largest share among measured media distributors. This TV presence helps Alphabet compete for brand advertising once dominated by broadcast and cable.
Future growth may come from connected-TV ads, subscriptions, new channel packages and AI-powered tools. Key risks include regulation, moderation challenges, competition, infrastructure costs and sports rights. Amazon’s digital-video history dates to the September 2006 launch of Amazon Unbox, a download service offering programming from more than 30 studio and network partners. The company later integrated streaming into Prime and expanded its content ownership, most notably through the $8.45 billion MGM transaction. MGM brought a library exceeding 4,000 films and 17,000 television episodes, along with franchises, including James Bond, Rocky and Creed.
Streaming supports Prime retention, advertising, distribution, rentals and channel subscriptions. Its advantage is integration with Amazon’s ecosystem. Amazon can promote programs through its storefront and Fire TV devices as viewers move among included content, channels and rentals. Unlike pure-play streamers, returns can include commerce and customer engagement, and not only video revenues.
Nielsen estimated that Prime Video represented 4.2% of U.S. television viewing in April 2026, helped by 22 NBA games and the final season of The Boys. This suggests that sports can lift engagement beyond the release windows of scripted originals. Amazon’s advertising-services revenues reached $17.24 billion in the first quarter, rising 24% year over year, although the company does not disclose how much came from Prime Video rather than retail advertising.
Live sports, franchise development, international distribution and ad-supported viewing are key catalysts. While investors should nevertheless account for heavy investment requirements, Amazon remains notable because Prime Video can reinforce several businesses at once, making it strategically valuable even when standalone economics are difficult to isolate. AMZN has a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).
Fox took its present form after selling major assets to Disney in 2019. Rather than launching a subscription platform, the company bought Tubi for $440 million in 2020 and focused on free, ad-supported streaming alongside its news, sports and broadcast television businesses.
This approach appeals to viewers reluctant to add another monthly fee. Tubi now serves more than 100 million monthly active users, offering an on-demand library as well as original productions and creator-driven programming.
Nielsen reported that Tubi reached a platform-best 2.3% of U.S. television viewing in April 2026, with viewing up 3% from March. A partnership unveiled in March 2026 enables selected TikTok creators to produce exclusive long-form series for Tubi, helping Fox turn social-media talent into television-style content without incurring the production costs of premium scripted rivals.
Fox’s planned acquisition of Roku, announced in June 2026, could strengthen its connected-TV distribution, advertising capabilities and direct audience relationships. The company projects roughly $400 million in annualized cost synergies, although the transaction still requires shareholder and regulatory approval and is expected to close in the first half of 2027.
The combination could unite Fox’s live news and sports, Tubi’s catalog and Roku’s platform data. Key opportunities include audience growth, better ad targeting and Fox One, while risks include integration, leverage, regulation and pressure on traditional television. FOXA holds a Zacks Rank #2.

Top 3 Stocks to Watch as Streaming Expands Beyond Subscriptions

Microsoft has much to figure out in terms of cost-effective spending, but it’s starting to make these tough decisions.

After leading the market so decisively for so long, things are finally changing for the so-called "Magnificent Seven" stocks.
Year to date, they're collectively up a mere 2%, versus the S&P 500's gain of more than 11%. This sudden weakness could linger for a while. too, given that most of the Mag-7 names are so integral to the artificial intelligence revolution that's starting to lose its luster.

Still, three of the Magnificent Seven stocks are arguably undervalued at this time. They're ripe for a long-term recovery, regardless of how the group or the broad market performs for the foreseeable future. Here's a closer look at each one of these names.
1. Microsoft
It's no secret why Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) shares are down 25% from August's peak. The software giant's cloud computing business's growth is slowing. Its capital spending -- mostly on AI infrastructure -- is growing to a hefty $190 billion,even though its artificial intelligence business's current annualized revenue run rate is only $37 billion. The market's doing the math, so to speak, and the numbers aren't adding up.
Then there's its video-gaming arm. While its Xbox console and games were never a major profit center, this was a reliable cash cow. Now it isn't. Last quarter's Xbox revenue fell 5% year over year.
There are two important details to consider here, however.
The first is the fact that CEO Satya Nadella finally seems to be recognizing reality, and is responding. The company recently laid off roughly 4,800 workers in an effort to adjust its staffing with respect to its opportunity. It's also restructuring its video gaming unit in a way that will make this weakening industry less of a liability to its income statement.
This won't change much immediately. It's only about 2% of its entire workforce. It does indicate, however, that Microsoft's management knows more sweeping action is merited.
The other thing to consider is the distinct possibility that with shares now down 25% from their peak, all of these problems are already reflected in the stock's price, and then some.
That's what the analyst community is saying, anyway. The vast majority of analysts covering this ticker currently rate it as a strong buy, with a consensus price target of $557.74. That's more than 40% above the stock's present price.
2. Amazon
It might not be too tough to figure out what's undermining Microsoft shares of late. E-commerce giant Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN), however, is a different story. Its first-quarter top line improved 17% year over year, led by 28% growth from its cloud computing arm Amazon Web Services -- an industry Amazon continues to lead. Operating income is growing as well. The company's even designing its own artificial intelligence processors to better (and more cost-effectively) serve its cloud customers that specifically need more cloud-based AI computing horsepower.
Nevertheless, Amazon shares have trailed the overall market for the past year. They haven't made any net progress since early November, largely thanks to last month's weakness, when several other Magnificent Seven stocks suddenly began struggling.
What gives?
Although it's not quite as pronounced as it is with Microsoft, investors are concerned about Amazon's heavy spending on artificial intelligence infrastructure. The company is budgeting roughly $200 billion for capital expenditures this year alone, up nearly 60% from last year's capital spending. As is the case with many of its peers, investors aren't entirely sure these big AI-related outlays will result in enough of a return to fully justify them.
Amazon is also taking on a bunch of new debt to at least partially fund these projects. It issued $37 billion in bonds in March of this year, and then sold an additional $25 billion worth earlier this month. Unlike the issuance of new stocks, these loans are legal obligations, and must be repaid regardless of how the assets they'll fund perform in terms of profit production. If Amazon's artificial intelligence ambitions don't pan out as hoped, it's still on the hook for this borrowed money.
The thing is, even if it doesn't manifest right away, the opportunity for this AI infrastructure is very real. Amazon remains one of the industry's preferred service providers. Warner Bros. Discovery and Fox Corporation both recently announced business relationships with AWS, following last month's news of an AWS partnership with Southwest Airlines.
3. Alphabet
Despite it being a solid performer since early 2023, Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOG)(NASDAQ: GOOGL) shares are down 12% since early May.
Don't sweat it too much. It's not an indictment of the company's past or potential performance. It's mostly just volatility, stemming from headlines about other tech companies. It may also be as much discount as you're going to see for the stock for a while, in fact. So, act now while the window of opportunity is still open.
Every one of this company's businesses is still firing on all cylinders. Google Services' total revenue grew 16% year over year in Q1, accelerating the fourth quarter's growth pace of 14%. Meanwhile, its cloud computing arm (which serves a growing number of artificial intelligence customers) saw its top line grow 63% year over year during Q1 2026, more than doubling its operating income in the process. Look for comparable growth going forward too, regardless of how well or how poorly the economy holds up from here.
Alphabet leads several markets that are largely immune to economic headwinds.
Search is one of them. A weak economy might result in weaker consumerism, but it doesn't result in fewer web searches. Google could become even more lucrative in sluggish economic environments, in fact, since connecting with consumers at their primary gateway to the internet is the best place to cost-effectively turn people into customers.
Mobile platforms are another important business for Alphabet. Numbers from Statcounter indicate that 69% of the world's mobile devices also still run Alphabet's mobile operating system Android, again positioning the company as a key, revenue-bearing gatekeeper to the way most of the world now connects to the internet.
Google Docs even enjoys more productivity software market share than the venerable Microsoft.
The point is, Alphabet's hold on the internet is pretty tight on several fronts, ranging from free email to video to search to platforms to cloud computing to -- increasingly -- artificial intelligence. This positions it as a top-of-mind provider on other fronts, few of which will be affected much by an economic slowdown.
The market will remember this resiliency sooner or later, and likely sooner than later. The company's second-quarter earnings report, coming later this month, could be that catalyst.

Streaming video has come a long way since it was pioneered by Netflix (NASDAQ: NFLX) nearly two decades ago. Little did the company know when it launched its "Watch Now" service in 2007 -- as an add-on for its DVD-by-mail customers -- that it would be giving birth to a new industry. Since then, Netflix has become the world's largest subscription video streaming service.
Over the past year, however, the stock has taken in on the chin, down 42% from its peak in July 2025. There wasn't a single catalyst that weighed on the streaming pioneer, but rather a sequence of events that have served to confuse and frustrate investors.

The company faces a key hurdle when Netflix reports its second-quarter results after the market close on July 16. Given the stock's slump over the past year, is it finally time to buy Netflix ahead of earnings, or is there more pain to come? Let's dig in to see what the evidence suggests.
What's happening with Netflix?
The past year has been rife with uncertainty for Netflix investors.
The company's bid to buy the streaming and studio assets of Warner Bros. Discovery was scuttled by a higher bid from rival Paramount Skydance. Netflix refused to participate in a protracted and costly bidding war and walked away from the deal. As the company has shown so many times over the years, it's unwilling to overpay for content, and its decision was the right move, in my opinion.
Soon after, Netflix reported that founder and former CEO Reed Hastings had decided to step down from the board after nearly 30 years with the company. The loss of any C-suite executive can be cause for concern, and Hastings has become an institution. That said, longtime executives Ted Sarandos and Greg Peters have been running the company as co-CEOs for more than three years, so Hastings is leaving the company in experienced hands.
Netflix has also been pummeled by events unrelated to its operations. Just last month, Fox Corporation announced plans to acquire streaming pioneer Roku in a cash-and-stock deal valued at $22 billion. While this marriage had nothing to do with Netflix, rumors surfaced that Netflix had been "outbid" for Roku -- which the company disputed, saying it hadn't even submitted a bid.
Just days later, rumors surfaced that the company was looking to acquire Lionsgate Studios, a report the company flatly denied. By then, however, the popular narrative had taken over, suggesting that the multiple failed acquisition attempts showed Netflix lacked a clear growth strategy -- even though the company hadn't bid for either Roku or Lionsgate.
Simply put, this has all been much ado about nothing.
Paint by numbers
Despite the rumors to the contrary, Netflix's growth is chugging along. In the first quarter, Netflix generated revenue of $12.25 billion, an increase of 16%, while its earnings per share (EPS) jumped 86% to $1.23. The jump in net income was partially due to the $2.8 billion termination fee it received from Warner Bros.
Netflix maintained its full-year revenue growth forecast at about 13% at the midpoint, as well as projecting a doubling of its advertising revenue from $1.5 billion to $3 billion. Management also noted that content expenses would be weighted toward the first half of the year. Netflix has historically issued conservative guidance, so I don't see this as any cause for concern.
The real opportunity, in my opinion, is Netflix's strikingly low valuation. The stock is currently selling for 24 times earnings, marking only the third time in the past 15 years that Netflix has been this cheap.
That allows savvy investors to buy Netflix before investor sentiment improves and the stock begins to recover. July 16 could be that day.

Shares of The Trade Desk (NASDAQ: TTD) were slumping again last month after the leading independent demand-side adtech platform (DSP) got swept up in the broader sell-off in software stocks as investors continue to doubt its growth potential amid rapidly deteriorating sales growth.
Perhaps, the worst news for the company was that Chief Revenue Officer Anders Mortenson was asked to leave the company after just seven months, a sign of disarray and the challenges The Trade Desk is facing.

While there were some positive news items, the overall trend was negative, and the stock finished the month down 16%, according to S&P Global Market Intelligence.
As you can see from the chart below, the stock fell in the first half of the month and remained down afterward.
What's happening with The Trade Desk
The Trade Desk is facing pressure from AI disruption, but it's less from start-ups like Anthropic and more from entrenched tech companies like Alphabet, Amazon, and Meta Platforms that are using AI automation tools to enhance their "walled gardens." Those three companies are the biggest digital ad platforms in the world, and are all outgrowing The Trade Desk, showing that they're taking market share from the adtech company.
Despite the pullback in the stock, there was some good news for The Trade Desk. The company reportedly settled its dispute with Publicis, one of the world's largest ad agency holding companies. Months ago, Publicis had told its clients to stop working with The Trade Desk after an audit showed unscrupulous practices such as improper billing, though that should no longer be a concern for investors.
The merger between Fox and Roku also seemed like a potential tailwind for The Trade Desk, and Benchmark reiterated a buy rating on the stock and a $30 price target, saying The Trade Desk is "critically important" to both Fox and Roku.
What's next for The Trade Desk
The Trade Desk is up 5% in July so far, gaining after a report in Bloomberg that said that Criteo, another adtech firm, was a buyout target for some private equity firms.
If there's a silver lining in the stock's collapse over the last year-and-a-half, it's that The Trade Desk is reasonably valued now at a price-to-earnings ratio of just 22, and it's solidly profitable. However, revenue growth is expected to fall below 10% in the current quarter and stay there.
If that doesn't change, it's hard to see the stock making a meaningful comeback.

Why The Trade Desk Fell 16% in June

Shares of Netflix (NASDAQ: NFLX) were drifting lower last month, continuing a broader pullback this year.
While there was no major news out on the leading streamer, skepticism about its business strategy at a time when its core markets are maturing seemed to push the stock lower.

Semafor reported that the company had bid on Roku, which agreed to be acquired by Fox, and that it was interested in buying Lionsgate, following Warner Bros. Discovery's decision to sell itself to Paramount Skydance instead of Netflix.
Additionally, Reed Hastings, the co-founder and longtime CEO of the company, stepped down from the board at the beginning of the month. Hastings had announced that decision in April, but his departure may have influenced some investors, as he now has no official role in the company.
According to data from S&P Global Market Intelligence, the stock lost 17% last month. As you can see from the chart below, the stock was heading lower over most of the month.
What happened with Netflix last month
Netflix kicked off the month by naming Jay Hoag as its new Chairman of the Board, replacing Reed Hastings. Hoag had been the board's lead independent director since 2012 and Netflix will no longer have a separate lead independent director, as Hoag is not an executive with the company.
After the Roku-Fox deal was announced, Semafor reported that Netflix had bid on Roku, though Netflix denied both making a formal bid for the streaming platform and that it was interest in acquiring Lionsgate, which seemed to represent table scraps after losing out on WBD.
Still, the Semafor report pushed the stock lower as it indicated that the company is searching for its next growth leg as subscriber growth slows in core markets like North America.
Other reports weighing on the stock included Meta Platforms' plans to expand Instagram TV and research firm M Science's noting that the company is on track for its weakest global net subscriber additions since 2022 in the second quarter.
What's next for Netflix
Netflix is now down more than 40% from its peak about a year ago, even though the business continues to deliver solid results.
Its valuation may have been inflated at the peak, but the stock looks like a good buy now at a price-to-earnings ratio around 30, excluding the $2.8 billion it received from WBD's breakup fee.
Slowing subscriber growth could present a challenge, but we'll learn more when the streaming stock reports second-quarter earnings next Thursday. Analysts are expecting revenue to grow 13.6% to $12.6 billion in the quarter and for earnings per share to improve from $0.72 to $0.79.

Why Netflix Stock Lost 17% in June

In the latest look at the underlying components of the S&P 500 ordered by largest market capitalization, Insulet Corp (Symbol: PODD) has taken over the #472 spot from Fox Corp (Symbol: FOXA), according to The Online Investor.
Market capitalization is an important data point for investors to keep an eye on, for various reasons. The most basic reason is that it gives a true comparison of the value attributed by the stock market to a given company's stock. Many beginning investors look at one stock trading at $10 and another trading at $20 and mistakenly think the latter company is worth twice as much — that of course is a completely meaningless comparison without knowing how many shares of each company exist. But comparing market capitalization (factoring in those share counts) creates a true "apples-to-apples" comparison of the value of two stocks. In the case of Insulet Corp (Symbol: PODD), the market cap is now $11.39 billion, versus Fox Corp (Symbol: FOXA) at $11.27 billion.

Another reason market capitalization is important is where it places a company in terms of its size tier in relation to peers — much like the way a mid-size sedan is typically compared to other mid-size sedans (and not SUV's). This can have a direct impact on which mutual funds and ETFs are willing to own the stock. For instance, a mutual fund that is focused solely on Large Cap stocks may for example only be interested in those companies sized $10 billion or larger. Another illustrative example is the S&P MidCap index which essentially takes the S&P 500 index and "tosses out" the biggest 100 companies so as to focus solely on the 400 smaller "up-and-comers" (which in the right environment can outperform their larger rivals). So a company's market cap, especially in relation to other companies, carries great importance, and for this reason we at The Online Investor find value to putting together these rankings daily.

Insulet Now #472 Largest Company, Surpassing Fox

The S&P 500 Index ($SPX) (SPY) on Wednesday closed down -0.22%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average ($DOWI) (DIA) closed down -0.03%, and the Nasdaq 100 Index ($IUXX) (QQQ) closed down -1.54%. September E-mini S&P futures (ESU26) fell -0.21%, and September E-mini Nasdaq futures (NQU26) fell -1.57%.
Stock indexes settled lower on Wednesday, with the S&P 500 falling from a 1-week high and the Dow Jones Industrials retreating from a new all-time high. The selloff in chipmakers and AI-infrastructure stocks led the broader market lower on Wednesday, giving back some of their sharp rally over the past two sessions. Weaker-than-expected US economic news also weighed on stocks after the Jun ADP employment change rose less than expected and the Jun ISM manufacturing index fell more than expected.

Losses in the overall market were limited amid strength in the Magnificent Seven technology stocks and a rally in software companies. Also, US factory price pressures eased after the Jun ISM prices paid sub-index fell more than expected to a 4-month low. Stocks also found support on comments from Fed Chair Warsh, who said price risks have come down in recent weeks and that he is determined to bring inflation back down to the Fed’s 2% target.
US MBA mortgage applications were unchanged in the week ended June 26, with the purchase mortgage sub-index up +0.5% and the refinancing mortgage sub-index down -0.7%. The average 30-year fixed rate mortgage fell -2 bp to 6.57% from 6.59% in the prior week.
The US Jun ADP employment change rose by +98,000, showing a weaker labor market than expectations of +120,000.
The US Jun ISM manufacturing index fell -0.7 to 53.3, weaker than expectations of 53.9. The Jun ISM prices paid sub index fell -9.1 to a 4-month low of 73.0, weaker than expectations of 77.5.
The outlook for strong Q2 earnings is a bullish factor for stocks. Forecasts compiled by Bloomberg Intelligence suggest Q2 earnings may increase by 23%, close to Q1’s blowout earnings of 30%, which was more than double the 12% analysts had expected. AI spending is expected to account for most of earnings, with AI infrastructure stocks set to contribute nearly 60% of the S&P 500's earnings-per-share growth in Q2.
WTI crude oil (CLQ26) fell more than -1% on Wednesday and posted a 4.25-month low. Crude prices came under pressure on Wednesday after a senior US administration official said that US negotiators held positive discussions in Qatar and progress is being made on technical talks with Iran. Also, the Wall Street Journal reported that President Trump had decided against resuming a broad military campaign against Iran and told his staff that he didn't mind if the negotiations extended beyond the August 18 deadline.
The markets are discounting a 27% chance of a +25 bp rate hike at the next FOMC meeting on July 28-29.
Overseas stock markets settled mixed on Wednesday. The Euro Stoxx 50 closed down -0.72%. China's Shanghai Composite climbed to a 1-week high and closed up +0.4%. Japan's Nikkei-225 Stock Average closed up +0.59%.
Interest Rates
September 10-year T-notes (ZNU6) on Wednesday closed down -10 ticks, and the 10-year T-note yield rose +0.8 bp to 4.473%. T-notes slid on Wednesday amid strengthening inflation expectations after the 10-year breakeven inflation rate rose to a 1-week high of 2.256%. Losses in T-notes were limited after the Jun ADP employment change, and the Jun ISM manufacturing index came in below expectations. Also, some short covering emerged in T-notes after Fed Chair Warsh said price risks have come down in recent weeks and that he is determined to bring inflation back down to the Fed’s 2% target.
European government bond yields were mixed on Wednesday. The 10-year German bund yield rose +1.9 bp to 2.878%. The 10-year UK gilt yield fell from a 1-week high of 4.817% and finished down -0.1 bp to 4.756%.
Eurozone Jun CPI eased to 2.8% y/y from 3.2% y/y in May, weaker than expectations of 3.0% y/y. Jun core CPI eased to 2.4% y/y from 2.6% y/y in May, weaker than expectations of 2.5% y/y.
The Eurozone Jun S&P manufacturing PMI was revised upward by +0.1 to 51.4 from the previously reported 51.3.
ECB President Christine Lagarde said that risks to inflation and growth are now more broadly balanced than a few weeks ago, due to the recent slide in crude oil prices.
Swaps are discounting a 4% chance of a +25 bp ECB rate hike at its next policy meeting on July 23.
US Stock Movers
Chipmakers and AI infrastructure stocks were under pressure on Wednesday, weighing on the broader market. The iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX) closed down more than -6%. KLA Corp (KLAC) closed down more than -1%, and SanDisk (SNDK) closed down more than -10%. Also, Lam Research (LRCX), Applied Materials (AMAT), Micron Technology (MU), and Intel (INTC) closed down more than -9%, and Marvell Technology (MRVL) closed down more than -8%. In addition, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) closed down more than -7%, and Western Digital (WDC) closed down more than -6%.
Nebius Group NV (NBIS) closed down more than -17% to lead losers in the Nasdaq 100, and CoreWeave (CRWV) closed down more than -13% as cloud-computing stocks fell on news that Meta Platforms is developing plans for a cloud infrastructure business to sell access to AI computing power and models.
Strength in the Magnificent Seven technology stocks supported the broader market on Wednesday. Meta Platforms (META) closed up more than +8% after saying it is developing plans for a cloud infrastructure business to sell access to AI computing power and models. Also, Microsoft (MSFT) closed up more than +3%, and Apple (AAPL), Tesla (TSLA), Alphabet (GOOGL), and Amazon.com (AMZN) closed up more than +1%. Nvidia (NVDA) bucked the trend and closed down more than -1% amid weakness in chipmakers.
Software stocks rallied on Wednesday, a positive factor for the overall market. Palantir Technologies (PLTR) closed up more than +7%, and Atlassian Corp (TEAM), ServiceNow (NOW), and Workday (WDAY) closed up more than +6%. Also, Salesforce (CRM) closed up by more than +4% to lead gainers in the Dow Jones Industrials. In addition, Autodesk (ADSK) closed up more than +3%, and Intuit (INTU) and Adobe Systems (ADBE) closed up more than +2%.
Alcoa (AA) closed down more than -8% after agreeing to acquire South32 Ltd.’s bauxite, alumina, and aluminum assets in a deal worth as much as $5.6 billion.
Caterpillar (CAT) closed down more than -6% to lead losers in the Dow Jones Industrials after Scion Asset Management founder Michal Burry said he shorted Caterpillar shares for the first time.
Walmart (WMT) closed down more than -3% after Cleveland Research issued a report on Walmart that said quarter-to-date trends have slowed.
General Mills (GIS) closed up more than +8% after reporting Q4 adjusted EPS of 95 cents, stronger than the consensus of 80 cents.
FactSet Research Systems (FDS) closed up more than +6% after reporting Q3 adjusted EPS of $4.53, better than the consensus of $4.43.
Fox Corp (FOXA) closed up more than +3% after Wolfe Research upgraded the stock to outperform from peer perform.
MSC Industrial Direct (MSM) closed up more than +3% after forecasting Q4 average daily sales up +6.5% to +8.5%, the midpoint above the consensus of +6.99%.

Weakness in Chipmakers Drags Stock Indexes Lower

The S&P 500 Index ($SPX) (SPY) today is down -0.08%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average ($DOWI) (DIA) is up +0.24%, and the Nasdaq 100 Index ($IUXX) (QQQ) is down -0.97%. September E-mini S&P futures (ESU26) are down -0.04%, and September E-mini Nasdaq futures (NQU26) are down -0.95%.
Stock indexes are mostly lower today as chipmakers and AI stocks fall back after their sharp rally over the past two sessions. Weaker-than-expected US economic news also weighed on stocks after the Jun ADP employment change rose less than expected and the Jun ISM manufacturing index fell more than expected.

However, stock indexes recovered from their worst levels and are trading mixed as software stocks rallied and US factory price pressures eased after the Jun ISM prices paid sub-index fell more than expected to a 4-month low. Stocks also found support after Fed Chair Warsh said price risks have come down in recent weeks and that he is determined to bring inflation back down to the Fed’s 2% target.
US MBA mortgage applications were unchanged in the week ended June 26, with the purchase mortgage sub-index up +0.5% and the refinancing mortgage sub-index down -0.7%. The average 30-year fixed rate mortgage fell -2 bp to 6.57% from 6.59% in the prior week.
The US Jun ADP employment change rose by +98,000, showing a weaker labor market than expectations of +120,000.
The US Jun ISM manufacturing index fell -0.7 to 53.3, weaker than expectations of 53.9. The Jun ISM prices paid sub index fell -9.1 to a 4-month low of 73.0, weaker than expectations of 77.5.
The outlook for strong Q2 earnings is a bullish factor for stocks. Forecasts compiled by Bloomberg Intelligence suggest Q2 earnings may increase by 23%, close to Q1’s blowout earnings of 30%, which was more than double the 12% analysts had expected. AI spending is expected to account for most of earnings, with AI infrastructure stocks set to contribute nearly 60% of the S&P 500's earnings-per-share growth in Q2.
WTI crude oil (CLQ26) is down more than -1% today and posted a 4.25-month low. Crude prices came under pressure today after a senior US administration official said that US negotiators held positive discussions in Qatar and progress is being made on technical talks with Iran. Also, the Wall Street Journal reported that President Trump had decided against resuming a broad military campaign against Iran and told his staff that he didn't mind if the negotiations extended beyond the August 18 deadline. Energy supplies are picking up as Morgan Stanley said 35 oil and gas tankers exited the Persian Gulf through the Strait of Hormuz last Thursday, the first time the level returned to the 30-to-40 range typical before the US-Iran war started in February.
The markets are discounting a 29% chance of a +25 bp rate hike at the next FOMC meeting on July 28-29.
Overseas stock markets are mixed today. The Euro Stoxx 50 is down -0.76%. China's Shanghai Composite climbed to a 1-week high and closed up +0.4%. Japan's Nikkei-225 Stock Average closed up +0.59%.
Interest Rates
September 10-year T-notes (ZNU6) on Tuesday are down -6 ticks, and the 10-year T-note yield is up +3.9 bp to 4.459%. T-notes are sliding today amid strengthening inflation expectations after the 10-year breakeven inflation rate rose to a 1-week high of 2.255%. Losses in T-notes are limited after the Jun ADP employment change and the Jun ISM manufacturing index came in below expectations. Also, some short covering emerged in T-notes after Fed Chair Warsh said price risks have come down in recent weeks and that he is determined to bring inflation back down to the Fed’s 2% target.
European government bond yields are moving higher today. The 10-year German bund yield is up +2.5 bp to 2.884%. The 10-year UK gilt yield rose to a 1-week high of 4.817% and is up +2.0 bp to 4.776%.
Eurozone Jun CPI eased to 2.8% y/y from 3.2% y/y in May, weaker than expectations of 3.0% y/y. Jun core CPI eased to 2.4% y/y from 2.6% y/y in May, weaker than expectations of 2.5% y/y.
The Eurozone Jun S&P manufacturing PMI was revised upward by +0.1 to 51.4 from the previously reported 51.3.
ECB President Christine Lagarde said that risks to inflation and growth are now more broadly balanced than a few weeks ago, due to the recent slide in crude oil prices.
Swaps are discounting a 5% chance of a +25 bp ECB rate hike at its next policy meeting on July 23.
US Stock Movers
Chipmakers and AI infrastructure stocks are under pressure today, leading the broader market lower. SanDisk (SNDK) is down more than -10%, and KLA Corp (KLAC) and Lam Research (LRCX) are down more than -9%. Also, Applied Materials (AMAT), Micron Technology (MU), and Intel (INTC) are down more than -8%, and Western Digital (WDC) is down more than -7%. In addition, Seagate Technology Holdings Plc (STX) and Marvell Technology (MRVL) are down more than -6%, and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), ARM Holdings Plc (ARM), and ASML Holding NV (ASML) are down more than -5%.
Nebius Group NV (NBIS) is down more than -16% to lead losers in the Nasdaq 100, and CoreWeave (CRWV) is down more than -14% as cloud-computing stocks are falling on news that Meta Platforms is developing plans for a cloud infrastructure business to sell access to AI computing power and models.
Software stocks are climbing today, a positive factor for the overall market. Palantir Technologies (PLTR) is up more than +9%, and Atlassian Corp (TEAM) is up more than +8%. Also, ServiceNow (NOW) and Workday (WDAY) are up more than +6%, and Salesforce (CRM) is up more than +5% to lead gainers in the Dow Jones Industrials. In addition, Autodesk (ADSK) and Intuit (INTU) are up more than +4%, and Microsoft (MSFT), Datadog (DDOG), and Adobe Systems (ADBE) are up more than +3%.
Alcoa (AA) is down more than -10% after agreeing to acquire South32 Ltd.’s bauxite, alumina, and aluminum assets in a deal worth as much as $5.6 billion.
Caterpillar (CAT) is down more than -5% to lead losers in the Dow Jones Industrials after Scion Asset Management founder Michal Burry said he shorted Caterpillar shares for the first time.
Kroger (KR) is down more than -2% after agreeing to acquire Giant Eagle Inc. for about $1.65 billion.
Meta Platforms (META) is up more than +11% to lead gainers in the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 after saying it is developing plans for a cloud infrastructure business to sell access to AI computing power and models.
General Mills (GIS) is up more than +8% after reporting Q4 adjusted EPS of 95 cents, stronger than the consensus of 80 cents.
FactSet Research Systems (FDS) is up more than +6% after reporting Q3 adjusted EPS of $4.53, better than the consensus of $4.43.
Fox Corp (FOXA) is up more than +5% after Wolfe Research upgraded the stock to outperform from peer perform.
MSC Industrial Direct (MSM) is up more than +4% after forecasting Q4 average daily sales up +6.5% to +8.5%, the midpoint above the consensus of +6.99%.
