During that time, Disney has retained its primacy in family entertainment and built an impressive streaming business, but the stock has gone nowhere, as it is basically flat over the last decade, while the S&P 500 has more than tripled.
D'Amaro takes over during a challenging period. Not only has the business struggled to move past the linear media era, but the geopolitical situation in Iran has put pressure on the travel sector, and tourism makes up a substantial portion of Disney's revenue.
While the company lumps in its parks, experiences, and consumer products business into one segment, the vast majority of that revenue comes from its theme parks and related businesses like its cruise line.
Disney's theme parks have proven to be its most important cash cow over the last decade, driving wide profit margins, while the streaming business has struggled and is cannibalizing its linear TV and box office movie business.
In fiscal 2025, Disney grew its experiences business by 6% to $36.2 billion and reported a $10 billion operating profit, making up more than half of its profit.
What happened on Monday
Stocks soared Monday on a relief rally driven by President Trump's decision to pause an attack on Iranian power plant infrastructure while the two sides negotiate.
Risk-on, cyclical stocks jumped, and that pattern was clear from the performance of the Dow Jones Industrial Average, as only six of the 30 stocks fell, and those were primarily defensive stocks. However, Disney was an outlier. Though its parks business has a ton of exposure to cyclical forces, Disney stock fell 1.6% on the day.
Investors seem to be saying that even the end of the war or a cooling of tensions isn't enough to push the stock higher. With oil prices rising, plane tickets are likely to go up, and consumers will have less discretionary income to spend at places like Disney World.
What it means for Disney
One day's performance does not make a stock, but Disney's fall stands out, given that it would benefit from an end to tensions in Iran.
With the sell-off, investors seem to be saying that Disney stock can't rely on the macro environment for its recovery. It will have to earn it through concrete business improvements.
For the current fiscal year, the company is targeting double-digit adjusted earnings per share. That's not a bad target, but right now, investors seem to be skeptical toward D'Amaro. Disney's stock has fallen through March, and it will need some help from management to turn it around.
D'Amaro deserves some patience from investors, but Disney's entertainment business is challenged by the decline of linear TV, and its theme parks could face a setback from the war. Disney could have another tough year ahead of it.

Disney Missed Out on Monday's Market Rally. Is It a Red Flag for the Entertainment Giant?

It has been about a month since the last earnings report for Fox (FOXA). Shares have lost about 11% in that time frame, underperforming the S&P 500.
But investors have to be wondering, will the recent negative trend continue leading up to its next earnings release, or is Fox due for a breakout? Well, first let's take a quick look at its most recent earnings report in order to get a better handle on the recent drivers for Fox Corporation before we dive into how investors and analysts have reacted as of late.
FOXA Q2 Earnings Surpass Estimates, Revenues Increase Y/Y
Fox Corporation reported second-quarter fiscal 2026 adjusted earnings of 82 cents per share, which beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 74.47%. The figure decreased 14.6% year over year.
Revenues increased 2% year over year to $5.18 billion, surpassing the consensus mark by 2.47%.
Distribution revenues (38.6% of total revenues) increased 4% year over year to $2 billion, driven by 5% growth at the Cable Network Programming segment and 1% growth at the Television segment.
Advertising revenues (47.4% of total revenues) increased 1% year over year to $2.46 billion, primarily fueled by higher sports and news pricing, continued digital growth led by the Tubi AVOD service and the impact of additional MLB postseason games, partially offset by lower political advertising revenues and lower ratings.
Content and other revenues (14% of total revenues) remained essentially unchanged year over year at $725 million.
Top-Line Details
Cable Network Programming revenues (43.9% of total revenues) increased 5% year over year to $2.28 billion. Advertising revenues grew 7%, whereas revenues from Distribution rose 5% year over year. Content and other revenues increased 4% on a year-over-year basis.
Television revenues (56.7% of total revenues) declined 1% from the year-ago quarter's figure to $2.94 billion. Advertising revenues increased 1.36% year over.
Distribution revenues grew 1% year over year, driven by higher average rates at the company's owned and operated television stations and increases in fees from third-party FOX affiliates.
Content and other revenues decreased 19% year over year to $142 million, primarily due to lower entertainment content and other revenues, which were impacted by the timing of deliveries.
Operating Details
In the second quarter of fiscal 2026, operating expenses increased 3.2% year over year to $3.9 billion. As a percentage of revenues, operating expenses expanded 90 basis points (bps) to 75.2%.
Selling, general & administrative (SG&A) expenses rose 13.3% year over year to $595 million. As a percentage of revenues, SG&A expenses expanded 120 bps to 11.5%.
Total adjusted EBITDA decreased 11.4% year over year to $692 million. Adjusted EBITDA margin contracted 190 bps to 13.4%.
Cable Network Programming EBITDA rose 5% year over year to $687 million. Television reported an adjusted EBITDA of $143 million, down 30% from the year-ago quarter.
Balance Sheet
As of Dec. 31, 2025, Fox had $2.02 billion in cash and cash equivalents compared with $4.37 billion as of Sept. 30, 2025.
As of Dec. 31, 2025, Fox's total borrowings stood at $6.6 billion, unchanged from $6.6 billion as of Sept. 30, 2025.

Ex-Dividend Reminder: H & R Block, Fox and Yum China Holdings

Netflix stock soared after it gave up its bid for Warner Bros.
The strategic rationale for the deal was never clear.
Warner Bros. is bloated with debt, and Netflix doesn't need it to succeed.
After months of intrigue, Netflix (NASDAQ: NFLX) finally bowed out of the competition for Warner Bros. Discovery (NASDAQ: WBD). Though its offer to buy the company's streaming and studio assets was originally accepted back in December, Paramount Skydance (NASDAQ: PSKY) persisted and scored a winning bid with an offer of $111 billion, including debt, or $31 a share for the whole company.
Netflix investors breathed a sigh of relief after the news was announced, with the stock up 9% on Friday. Prior to the update, Netflix stock had fallen by as much as 25% after WBD accepted its offer.

Still, the deal always seemed misguided, and it's good news for investors that it's been abandoned. Here are five reasons why.
1. Netflix doesn't need Warner Bros.
The strategic rationale for buying Warner Bros. never seemed complete. Netflix has the world's dominant streaming business, and Warner Bros. is a melange of struggling streaming and studio businesses. In fact, Netflix's success is a big reason for Warner Bros. struggles.
Netflix management seemed to be smitten with Warner Bros. brands and tentpole franchises like Batman and The Wizard of Oz, but the streaming leader doesn't need to pay close to $100 billion for a content library and intellectual property when it's had more success building its own. Notably, Netflix has made almost no acquisitions in its history, and nothing approaching the size of the WB deal.
Additionally, Netflix seemed unsure of what to do about WB's theatrical business, which conflicts with Netflix's preference of avoiding theaters or having a limited release for awards-seeking films. Finally, the HBOMax streaming service seems like an extra appendage for Netflix, which has always had just one brand.
2. Media mergers have a history of failure
Media mergers have a history of blowing up. The most famous example is probably the combination of Time Warner and AOL, but Time Warner, which evolved into Warner Bros. Discovery, has been a white elephant several times.
AT&T's acquisition of Time Warner was a disaster, and its spin-off/merger with Discovery Communications was also a bust, as the stock foundered until WBD put itself on the auction block.
Elsewhere in the streaming sector, Disney's acquisition of Fox's entertainment assets is generally regarded as a dud, and Disney stock has struggled since.
There's no economic rule that all media mergers fail, but given the lack of strategic rationale and the high price tag, the Netflix-WB combo didn't seem promising.
3. Paramount is overpaying for WBD
Paramount is buying WBD because it needs it to stay relevant, but it's paying much more than it's worth. Prior to talk of a sale, WBD was trading below $13 a share, and it was down as low as $7.52 last April.
In addition to a business that hasn't lived up to expectations and frequently reported slow growth and losses, WBD is also loaded with debt, with $33.5 billion in debt in its most recent report.
Taking on that debt would have hamstrung Netflix and made it less flexible with capital allocations.
Paramount might have "won" the bidding war, but any dealmaker knows that overpaying for an asset isn't a victory. Forcing your competitor to do so, on the other hand, can be its own form of checkmate.
4. A deal benefits Netflix
Consolidation tends to be good for remaining industry players, and that seems to be true for Netflix. With Paramount and WBD combining, that means one less bidder for content to compete with. It also could mean one less streaming service in the market if the new company chooses to combine Paramount+ and HBOMax.
Given the struggles of both WBD and Paramount, Netflix could even find itself in a position to buy the new combined company in a few years for less than it had bid for Warner Bros. originally.
Netflix has all the momentum in the industry, and it's unlikely to face a significant challenge from the Paramount-WBD combo, especially with the debt albatross hanging around Paramount's neck.
5. Getting regulatory approval wasn't guaranteed
Netflix is the dominant streaming player in the world. Warner Bros. is one of the biggest film studios and owns the best-known premium cable network, HBO.
It was clear that combining the two businesses would test antitrust guardrails around the world, and the Trump administration had already expressed skepticism about the deal. Hollywood was also opposed to the merger, believing Netflix had already decimated the traditional theatrical business and that acquiring WB would only hasten its demise. If the deal had been blocked by regulators, Netflix would have been on the hook for $5.8 billion breakup fee.
Now that WBD has backed out, Netflix will collect a $2.8 billion termination fee from Warner Bros. and Paramount. That sounds like a win for the streaming leader.

Netflix Backs Out of the Warner Bros. Deal. 5 Reasons It's a Smart Move

Investors in Fox Corp (Symbol: FOXA) saw new options begin trading this week, for the October 16th expiration. One of the key data points that goes into the price an option buyer is willing to pay, is the time value, so with 238 days until expiration the newly trading contracts represent a potential opportunity for sellers of puts or calls to achieve a higher premium than would be available for the contracts with a closer expiration. At Stock Options Channel, our YieldBoost formula has looked up and down the FOXA options chain for the new October 16th contracts and identified one put and one call contract of particular interest.
The put contract at the $55.00 strike price has a current bid of $4.20. If an investor was to sell-to-open that put contract, they are committing to purchase the stock at $55.00, but will also collect the premium, putting the cost basis of the shares at $50.80 (before broker commissions). To an investor already interested in purchasing shares of FOXA, that could represent an attractive alternative to paying $56.23/share today.
Because the $55.00 strike represents an approximate 2% discount to the current trading price of the stock (in other words it is out-of-the-money by that percentage), there is also the possibility that the put contract would expire worthless. The current analytical data (including greeks and implied greeks) suggest the current odds of that happening are 62%. Turning to the calls side of the option chain, the call contract at the $60.00 strike price has a current bid of $4.00. If an investor was to purchase shares of FOXA stock at the current price level of $56.23/share, and then sell-to-open that call contract as a "covered call," they are committing to sell the stock at $60.00. Considering the call seller will also collect the premium, that would drive a total return (excluding dividends, if any) of 13.82% if the stock gets called away at the October 16th expiration (before broker commissions). Of course, a lot of upside could potentially be left on the table if FOXA shares really soar, which is why looking at the trailing twelve month trading history for Fox Corp, as well as studying the business fundamentals becomes important. Considering the fact that the $60.00 strike represents an approximate 7% premium to the current trading price of the stock (in other words it is out-of-the-money by that percentage), there is also the possibility that the covered call contract would expire worthless, in which case the investor would keep both their shares of stock and the premium collected. The current analytical data (including greeks and implied greeks) suggest the current odds of that happening are 52%. First Week of October 16th Options Trading For Fox

Shareholders of Fox Corp (Symbol: FOXA) looking to boost their income beyond the stock's 1% annualized dividend yield can sell the July covered call at the $60 strike and collect the premium based on the $3.30 bid, which annualizes to an additional 14.4% rate of return against the current stock price (at Stock Options Channel we call this the YieldBoost), for a total of 15.4% annualized rate in the scenario where the stock is not called away. Any upside above $60 would be lost if the stock rises there and is called away, but FOXA shares would have to advance 6.4% from current levels for that to happen, meaning that in the scenario where the stock is called, the shareholder has earned a 12.2% return from this trading level, in addition to any dividends collected before the stock was called.
