Howdy, y'all
Late last year, the streaming pioneer made a calculated decision to launch a paid streaming channel, dubbed "Howdy." This subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) service debuted in August for just $2.99 per month, catering to price-sensitive customers. At the time, Roku noted that the service's library featured thousands of titles and 10,000 hours of entertainment, including programs and movies from Lionsgate, Warner Bros. Discovery, and FilmRise, as well as select Roku originals.
Skeptics immediately panned the service as just another subscription to manage and lacking in first-run movies. Now, just eight months later, that relatively modest bet appears to be paying off. Estimates suggest that Howdy has surpassed 1 million subscribers, according to a report by analytics company Antenna.
The data suggests Roku's platform was a significant driver of growth, as 23% of subscribers came via The Roku Channel, the company's ad-supported offering. Retention is also respectable, with 51% of initial viewers still subscribed after six months. For context, only 47% of premium SVOD services survive the six-month threshold. While it might not seem like much, this adds to Roku's growing advantage.
Then there's The Roku Channel -- the company's free, ad-supported streaming service. It ended 2025 with a 3% share of all TV viewership, according to Nielsen, placing it in the Top 10 among media companies and ahead of other streaming providers, including Paramount+, Comcast's Peacock, Fox's Tubi, and Warner Bros. Discovery. The Roku Channel was also ranked No. 2 on the company's platform in terms of engagement.
Just last week, Roku announced that it had surpassed 100 million streaming households worldwide. The company also commands a 55% market share of streaming devices in the U.S.
Taken together, the growth of Howdy, the ongoing success of The Roku Channel, and the company's expanding worldwide influence suggest Roku has taken all the right steps to position itself for future growth.
What the future could hold
Roku is scheduled to report its first-quarter financial results after the market close on Thursday, and the future looks bright. Management's forecast calls for revenue to grow 18% year over year to $1.2 billion, while swinging from a net loss of $27 million to a profit of $50 million. If the company delivers, this will mark the fourth consecutive quarter of profitability, a significant milestone in the company's recovery.
Wall Street is equally bullish, as analysts' consensus estimates call for revenue of $1.2 billion and adjusted earnings per share (EPS) of $0.35.
At 35 times next year's expected earnings, the stock commands a premium. However, if the company continues to deliver on its promise, Roku's current valuation could turn out to be a bargain.
For my money, Roku stock is a buy.

However, White House Deputy Press Secretary Kush Desai posted on X (formerly Twitter) that these are only "short-term disruptions" and "the American economy remains on a solid trajectory." National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett echoed Desai in an interview with Fox (NASDAQ: FOX) News, stating that high gas prices are a "temporary phenomenon" and that the "economy has so much momentum that it's humming along."

Americans don't have to worry about inflation if Trump's team is right. But what if they're wrong? Here are three stocks to buy.
1. NextEra Energy
Electric utilities are often some of the most inflation-proof investments on the market. They can typically pass higher costs along to consumers. And the electricity demand won't plunge as inflation rises. That makes NextEra Energy (NYSE: NEE) an attractive choice if the White House's optimism proves to be unfounded.
NextEra is North America's largest electric power and energy infrastructure company. It owns Florida Power & Light, the largest electric utility in the U.S. The company's NextEra Energy Resources unit is also one of the largest energy infrastructure development companies in the country.
Like many utility stocks, NextEra Energy offers an attractive dividend. Its forward dividend yield is currently 2.7%. NextEra expects to grow the dividend by around 10% this year and by 6% per year through 2028.
Even better, the company projects a compound annual growth rate for adjusted earnings per share of at least 8% through 2032. NextEra plans to triple the size of its renewables and storage business during that period. Its energy infrastructure unit has a pipeline of over $25 billion.
2. Vertex Pharmaceuticals
Will higher inflation cause patients with cystic fibrosis (CF) to stop taking their medications? Of course not. As the maker of the only approved therapies that treat the underlying cause of CF, Vertex Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: VRTX) doesn't have to worry about inflation.
While Vertex's CF products generate most of its revenue now, the company's future growth will likely be driven by other therapies. Journavx, a non-opioid pain medication, is especially important to Vertex's growth strategy. The company is targeting a year-over-year increase in Journavx prescriptions of over 3x in 2026. Casgevy, the first approved CRISPR gene-editing therapy, is also picking up momentum.
Another key therapeutic category to watch with Vertex is renal disease. The company hopes to win accelerated approval for povetacicept in treating IgA nephropathy, a chronic kidney disorder, later this year. It also plans to report results from a pivotal study of inaxaplin for treating APOL1-mediated kidney disease by early 2027 and to quickly file for U.S. accelerated approval, pending positive results.
3. Walmart
Walmart (NASDAQ: WMT) ranks among the most resilient stocks during turbulent periods, including times of rising inflation. It's the world's largest consumer staples company, operating more than 10,900 stores in 19 countries.
E-commerce has also become a big business for Walmart. The company's global e-commerce net sales jumped 24% year over year in the fourth quarter of 2025, comprising 23% of total net sales. Walmart's e-commerce platform is particularly strong in the U.S. and China, where sales increased by 27% and 28%, respectively, in Q4.
Walmart is also a member of the Dividend Kings, a group of stocks that have increased their dividends for at least 50 consecutive years. Earlier this year, Walmart raised its dividend for the 53rd consecutive year.

Trump's Team Says Don't Worry About Rising Inflation. Here Are 3 Stocks to Buy If They're Wrong.

Bargain hunters are wise to pay careful attention to insider buying, because although there are many various reasons for an insider to sell a stock, presumably the only reason they would use their hard-earned cash to make a purchase, is that they expect to make money. Today we look at two noteworthy recent insider buys.
At Fox, a filing with the SEC revealed that on Friday, Executive Chair, CEO Lachlan K. Murdoch purchased 175,372 shares of FOX, for a cost of $60.63 each, for a total investment of $10.63M. Investors are able to pick up FOX even cheaper than Murdoch did, with shares changing hands as low as $52.14 in trading on Monday -- that's 14.0% under Murdoch's purchase price. Fox is trading up about 0.8% on the day Monday. This buy marks the first one filed by Murdoch in the past twelve months.
And at Portillos, there was insider buying on Friday, by Director Eugene I. Lee Jr. who purchased 286,000 shares at a cost of $5.18 each, for a total investment of $1.48M. Before this latest buy, Lee Jr. made one other buy in the past twelve months, purchasing $1.00M shares at a cost of $7.68 each. Portillos is trading up about 6.2% on the day Monday. So far Lee Jr. is in the green, up about 15.3% on their buy based on today's trading high of $5.97.

Ex-Dividend Reminder: Cheesecake Factory, Fox and Marriott Vacations Worldwide

Fox Corporation (FOX) has been on a downward spiral lately with significant selling pressure. After declining 20.3% over the past four weeks, the stock looks well positioned for a trend reversal as it is now in oversold territory and there is strong agreement among Wall Street analysts that the company will report better earnings than they predicted earlier.
We use Relative Strength Index (RSI), one of the most commonly used technical indicators, for spotting whether a stock is oversold. This is a momentum oscillator that measures the speed and change of price movements.
RSI oscillates between zero and 100. Usually, a stock is considered oversold when its RSI reading falls below 30.
Technically, every stock oscillates between being overbought and oversold irrespective of the quality of their fundamentals. And the beauty of RSI is that it helps you quickly and easily check if a stock's price is reaching a point of reversal.
So, by this measure, if a stock has gotten too far below its fair value just because of unwarranted selling pressure, investors may start looking for entry opportunities in the stock for benefiting from the inevitable rebound.
However, like every investing tool, RSI has its limitations, and should not be used alone for making an investment decision.
Why FOX Could Bounce Back Before Long
The heavy selling of FOX shares appears to be in the process of exhausting itself, as indicated by its RSI reading of 24.78. So, the trend for the stock could reverse soon for reaching the old equilibrium of supply and demand.
The RSI value is not the only factor that indicates a potential turnaround for the stock in the near term. On the fundamental side, there has been strong agreement among the sell-side analysts covering the stock in raising earnings estimates for the current year. Over the last 30 days, the consensus EPS estimate for FOX has increased 2.5%. And an upward trend in earnings estimate revisions usually translates into price appreciation in the near term.

Down 20.3% in 4 Weeks, Here's Why Fox (FOX) Looks Ripe for a Turnaround

Investors in Fox Corp (Symbol: FOX) saw new options become available this week, for the October 16th expiration. One of the key inputs that goes into the price an option buyer is willing to pay, is the time value, so with 238 days until expiration the newly available contracts represent a possible opportunity for sellers of puts or calls to achieve a higher premium than would be available for the contracts with a closer expiration. At Stock Options Channel, our YieldBoost formula has looked up and down the FOX options chain for the new October 16th contracts and identified one put and one call contract of particular interest.
The put contract at the $45.00 strike price has a current bid of 70 cents. If an investor was to sell-to-open that put contract, they are committing to purchase the stock at $45.00, but will also collect the premium, putting the cost basis of the shares at $44.30 (before broker commissions).
