Tesla (TSLA) Beats Q4 Earnings Estimates

PACCAR Inc. PCAR recorded fourth-quarter 2025 earnings of $1.06 per share, which matched the Zacks Consensus Estimate but declined from $1.66 reported in the year-ago period.
Consolidated revenues (including trucks and financial services) were $6.8 billion, down from $7.91 billion in the corresponding quarter of 2024. Sales from Trucks, Parts and Others amounted to $6.25 billion.

Revenues from the Trucks segment totaled $4.52 billion in the fourth quarter, lower than the prior-year quarter’s $5.69 billion. The metric, however, surpassed our estimate of $4.43 billion. Global truck deliveries totaled 32,900 units, higher than our projection of 32,145 units but lower than 43,900 units delivered in the corresponding quarter of 2024. The segment’s pre-tax income was $94.6 million, which fell short of our estimate of $237.3 million and plunged 81.2% year over year.
Revenues from the Parts segment totaled $1.74 billion, up from the year-earlier period’s $1.67 billion. Our estimate was $1.75 billion. The segment’s pre-tax income totaled $415 million, down from $428.2 million reported in the year-ago period. The metric, however, topped our forecast of $332.1 million.
Financial Services segment revenues amounted to $568.7 million, higher than the year-ago quarter’s $544.3 million but lower than our estimate of $576.8 million. Pre-tax income increased to $114.9 million from $104 million reported in the year-ago period but fell short of our projection of $128.1 million.
Selling, general and administrative expenses increased to $153.8 million from $150.4 million in the prior-year period. Research & development (R&D) expenses totaled $106.2 million compared with the year-earlier quarter’s $115 million.
PACCAR’s cash and marketable debt securities amounted to $9.25 billion as of Dec. 31, 2025, compared with $9.65 billion as of Dec. 31, 2024.
Capex and R&D expenses for 2026 are envisioned in the band of $725-$775 million and $450-$500 million, respectively.

There's no question that the electric vehicle (EV) market has become more competitive for Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA). At the same time, the company's long-term competitive position is strengthening, and it's well positioned to win the EV market.
Tesla is already winning
First, much has been made of Tesla's declining EV deliveries in 2025, and the reality is that they fell by 8.6% compared to 2024. But here's the thing. Tesla's deliveries were negatively affected by the Model Y refresh (the best-selling EV in the U.S., with the Model S second).

The Kelley Blue Book Electric Vehicle Sales report's estimates of U.S. EV sales show a decline in the Model Y's market share in the back half of 2024 and the start of 2025, but a quick rebound in the second quarter when the new Model Y became available.
In addition, note the massive increase in Tesla's and the Model Y's market share in the fourth quarter after the expiry of EV Federal tax credits. Simply put, Tesla was relatively less impacted than its low-cost EV rivals.
An improving competitive landscape
Speaking of low-cost rivals, there's a difference between a low-cost EV model and one that's effectively being subsidized to gain EV market share. The latter is not sustainable. A good example comes from Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F), whose Model e segment lost $3.6 billion in the first nine months of 2025 and took a $19.5 billion charge as it refocused its EV operations.
In contrast, Tesla remains profitable and has the scale to grow production, and in doing so, reduce its cost per car.
The third reason comes down to its supercharger network, which is an integral part of building out an EV infrastructure necessary to support sales.
Tesla robotaxi will support growth
Fourth, investors had some good news on this front because CEO Elon Musk recently confirmed that safety drivers had been removed from some of its robotaxis operating in Austin, Texas. Even though, according to reports, the unsupervised robotaxis are being followed by monitors in safery cars.
Still, it's a positive step forward in Tesla's robotaxi rollout, and investors shouldn't underestimate the potential it has, not only to transform the earnings potential for the company from a massive stream of revenue from its Cybercabs, but also to share revenue from Tesla EVs transformed into robotaxis using unsupervised full self-driving (FSD) software.
In addition, the expansion of robotaxis will highlight FSD's capabilities. It could drive future subscription sales and add significant value to owning a Tesla over alternative EVs.
Tesla will dominate the EV market
Musk's company is already dominating the market, and that looks set to continue. Rivals simply can't support loss-making EVs indefinitely, and Tesla's robotaxi rollout threatens to structurally change the market in its favor.

Tesla’s legacy EV business accounts for roughly three-quarters of its entire revenue stream. However, unlike past years, Tesla investors are unlikely to be hyper-focused on this result for three reasons:
· Bad News is Already Priced In: With the end of the Federal EV tax credit, a slowdown in sales is already priced into TSLA shares.
· Interest Rates are Expected to Fall: Higher interest rates have led to a slowing of the EV business across the board. However, with interest rates expected to fall later in the year, this headwind will be alleviated.
· Diversification beyond Legacy EV Business: Tesla is diversifying its revenue streams beyond its legacy EV business.
Tesla: Key Earnings Drivers
Unlike traditional EV makers, Tesla shares have always traded at a premium due to its ability to innovate. While companies like Ford (F) and General Motors (GM) are one-dimensional, Tesla has expanded its product offering dramatically in recent years. Below are three key areas to watch.
1. Tesla Energy: Tesla’s most underrated business segment. Amid increasing demand from energy-hungry data centers, Tesla Energy is growing at a robust 84% year-over-year. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for TSLA’s to-be-reported quarter’s earnings and revenues is pegged at 45 cents per share and $25.1 billion, respectively. In the trailing four quarters, the company missed EPS estimates on three occasions and beat on the other, with the average negative earnings surprise being 11.1%.
The consensus mark for F’s EPS and automotive revenues is 17 cents and $41 billion, respectively. Ford’s earnings surprise history is solid. In the past four quarters, the company beat the estimates each time.

In the fourth quarter of 2025, Tesla sold 418,227 vehicles (comprising 406,585 Model 3/Y and 11,642 other models), down 16% from the corresponding quarter of 2024. The deliveries also lagged our model estimate of 448,384 units. Withdrawal of the $7,500 federal EV tax credit and intense competition from Chinese EV makers weighed on Tesla’s sales in the fourth quarter of 2025.
In the fourth quarter of 2025, Ford sales rose 2.7% to over 545,200 vehicles, while market share improved 0.9% in the fourth quarter of 2025, driven by high demand for hybrids. Hybrid sales grew 17.6% year over year to 55,374 units. Higher year-over-year deliveries of trucks and Mustang cars boosted overall volumes. Nonetheless, the company expects around $19.5 billion in special charges, mostly in the fourth quarter, as it restructures its U.S. EV strategy. Importantly, about $5.5 billion of this will hit cash flows, mainly through 2026 and 2027.
Why Ford Still Appears a Solid Bet Now
Ford was the third-largest automaker in the United States in 2025 by sales volumes. Ford’s U.S. vehicle sales rose 6% year over year to 2.2 million vehicles in 2025, marking its best annual U.S. sales performance since 2019. Its hybrid strategy adds resilience amid weak EV sales. Ford is now leaning more toward hybrids, gas-powered vehicles, and smaller, affordable EVs amid slower e-mobility adoption.
By scaling back its EV plans that no longer match demand, Ford is basically shifting resources toward higher-margin vehicles and proven revenue drivers. While this will impact near-term financials as the company restructures its U.S. EV assets, the pivot is crucial for capital efficiency and future profitability.
Additionally, continued strength in the Ford Pro unit, strategic initiatives in autonomy, AI integration, and entry into battery energy storage broaden long-term growth avenues while supporting margin improvement. Strong liquidity and an appealing dividend yield further enhance shareholder value.
The Zacks Consensus Estimate for Ford’s 2026 EPS has moved up 6 cents over the past seven days to $1.54, implying 36% growth from the projected 2025 levels.
Why Buying TSLA Stock Doesn’t Make Sense Now
Tesla’s delivery slowdown underscores the rising pressure on its core EV business. Weak fourth-quarter deliveries dragged down total sales in 2025, marking the second consecutive year of declining volumes. A more concerning aspect is that the pace of the slowdown has accelerated. Deliveries slipped just 1% year over year in 2024, but the decline widened to more than 8% in 2025. A softer EV market, intensifying competition and an aging vehicle lineup have all weighed on demand.
Against this backdrop, CEO Elon Musk is increasingly shifting focus toward autonomous driving and artificial intelligence, positioning them as Tesla’s next major growth drivers. However, these initiatives are unlikely to generate meaningful revenues in the near term. Tesla also faces significant ground to cover in robotaxis, where Waymo currently holds a clear lead. Expanding robotaxi services beyond limited pilots and turning AI-focused projects into steady revenue streams will take time, keeping near-term execution risks elevated.
While the Zacks Consensus Estimate for Tesla’s 2026 EPS implies year-over-year growth, it has declined by 10 cents over the past 30 days, indicating rising analyst pessimism.
F & TSLA: Valuation Check
From a valuation standpoint, Ford stands out as significantly cheaper, trading at 0.31x forward sales. Meanwhile, Tesla’s valuation remains stretched, reflected in a forward sales multiple of 13.67x.

Tesla or Ford: Which Stock is Worth Buying Ahead of Q4 Earnings?

General Motors GM reported fourth-quarter 2025 adjusted earnings of $2.51 per share, which beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $2.20. Higher-than-expected revenues from GM North America (GMNA), GM International (GMI) and GM Financial segments led to the outperformance. The bottom line also rose from the year-ago quarter’s $1.92. Revenues of $45.29 billion missed the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $45.4 billion and fell from $47.71 billion recorded in the year-ago period.
The U.S. auto giant recorded adjusted earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) of $2.84 billion, higher than $2.51 billion in the prior-year quarter. The automaker’s share in the GM market was 8.6% in the reported quarter, the same as the year-ago quarter.

Segmental Performance of GM
GMNA generated net revenues of $36.89 billion, down from $39.5 billion recorded in the corresponding period of 2024. The figure, however, outpaced our model’s projection of $36.85 billion. Wholesale vehicle sales in the GMNA unit totaled 780,000 units, down from 876,000 units reported in the year-ago quarter. The figure missed our estimate of 794,000 units. The segment’s adjusted EBIT totaled $2.24 billion, down from $2.27 billion recorded in the year-earlier period. The metric also missed our estimate of $2.3 billion.
GMI net revenues in the reported quarter amounted to $4.03 billion, up from the year-ago quarter’s $3.99 billion. The metric also outpaced our expectation of $3.84 billion on higher-than-expected deliveries. The segment’s wholesale vehicle sales of 157,000 units decreased from 163,000 units in the year-ago quarter but topped our forecast of 147,000 units. GMI reported an operating profit of $278 million, up from $221 million reported in the year-ago period and outpaced our estimate of $123.7 million.
GM Financial generated net revenues of $4.3 billion in the quarter, which increased from $4.11 billion recorded in the year-ago period and surpassed our prediction of $4.12 billion. The segment recorded an EBT-adjusted operating profit of $609 million, down from $719 million recorded in the year-ago period. The metric also missed our prediction of $700.1 million.
GM’s Financial Position
General Motors had cash and cash equivalents of $20.94 billion as of Dec. 31, 2025. The long-term automotive debt at the end of the quarter was $15.52 billion. Net automotive cash provided by operating activities amounted to $5.61 billion during the quarter under review. The company recorded an adjusted automotive free cash flow of $2.76 billion in the fourth quarter of 2025, up from $1.82 billion generated in the year-ago quarter.
General Motors Provides FY26 Guidance
For 2026, GM expects net income attributable to stockholders in the range of $10.3-$11.7 billion compared with $2.7 billion reported in 2025. It expects adjusted EBIT in the range of $13-$15 billion compared with $12.7 billion reported in 2025. Automotive operating cash flow is expected to be between $19 billion and $23 billion compared with $18.7 billion reported in 2025, while adjusted automotive free cash flow is projected in the band of $9-$11 billion compared with $10.6 billion reported in 2025. Adjusted EPS is estimated in the range of $11-$13 compared with $10.60 reported in 2025.

General Motors Q4 Earnings Surpass Expectations, Rise Y/Y

General Motors (GM) came out with quarterly earnings of $2.51 per share, beating the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $2.2 per share. This compares to earnings of $1.92 per share a year ago. These figures are adjusted for non-recurring items.
This quarterly report represents an earnings surprise of +14.24%. A quarter ago, it was expected that this an automotive manufacturer would post earnings of $2.28 per share when it actually produced earnings of $2.8, delivering a surprise of +22.81%.
Over the last four quarters, the company has surpassed consensus EPS estimates four times.
General Motors, which belongs to the Zacks Automotive - Domestic industry, posted revenues of $45.29 billion for the quarter ended December 2025, missing the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 1.83%. This compares to year-ago revenues of $47.71 billion. The company has topped consensus revenue estimates three times over the last four quarters.
The sustainability of the stock's immediate price movement based on the recently-released numbers and future earnings expectations will mostly depend on management's commentary on the earnings call.
General Motors shares have lost about 2.3% since the beginning of the year versus the S&P 500's gain of 1.5%.

General Motors (GM) Q4 Earnings Top Estimates

Ford Motor Company F has issued a recall for 119,075 vehicles in the United States due to a potential defect in the engine block heater, per the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The issue involves the block heater cracking and leaking coolant, which could lead to a short circuit and raise the risk of a fire when the heater is connected to a power source.
The recall covers select 2016-2018 Focus, 2019 Explorer and 2024 Explorer vehicles, along with certain 2013-2018 Focus, 2013-2019 Escape and 2015-2016 Lincoln MKC models.
Vehicle owners are being urged to avoid using the block heater until repairs are completed. Dealers will replace the faulty heaters at no cost, and affected customers are expected to receive recall notification letters by mail starting Feb. 13, 2026.
Federal safety data show that the legacy automaker recorded more recalls in 2025 than any other automaker, surpassing a long-standing industry record and highlighting persistent quality problems impacting millions of vehicles across several model lines. Per NHTSA, the company issued 152 recalls during 2025.
In December, Ford recalled more than 272,000 hybrid and EVs due to a software issue affecting the Integrated Parking Module. Per NHTSA, the integrated park module may fail to lock into the park position when the driver shifts into park. The loss of the parking function can cause the vehicle to roll away, increasing the risk of a crash. The recall affected 2022-2026 F-150 Lightning models, 2024-2026 Mustang Mach-E models, and 2025-2026 Maverick models.
Earlier in January, Rivian Automotive, Inc. RIVN, a California-based electric vehicle manufacturer, recalled 19,641 R1 vehicles that were previously serviced for a rear suspension issue. Per the NHTSA filing, the prior service may have led to improper reassembly of the rear suspension toe link joint. Rivian will replace the rear toe link bolts at no cost to owners, per NHTSA. The recall applies to certain R1 models from the 2022-2025 model years, including 7,031 R1S SUVs and 12,610 R1T pickup trucks. All affected vehicles underwent rear suspension service between April 1, 2022, and March 10, 2025.
In November, Honda Motor Co., Ltd. HMC, a Japanese automotive manufacturer, issued a recall for 406,290 vehicles in the United States due to a manufacturing defect that could potentially detach aluminium alloy wheels, per NHTSA. The recall affects select 2016-2021 Civic models equipped with 18-inch aluminium alloy wheels that were sold as accessories.

Ford Recalls 119K US Vehicles to Fix Engine Block Heater Defect

Decades ago, foreign automakers were clamoring to get into the Chinese market. The market was blossoming and would become the world's largest automotive market by 2009. However, the Chinese forced foreign automakers into joint ventures with domestic companies to earn their way into the market.
Because of these joint ventures, the Chinese automakers developed quickly, and years later, through government subsidies and other incentives, became advanced, particularly with electric vehicles (EVs). The problem for the likes of Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) and General Motors (NYSE: GM), among others, is that now Chinese automakers are able to undercut on pricing and, due to an aggressive price war in China, are rapidly expanding across the globe.

Making matters worse for the two Detroit automakers was a recent shift in North American trade policy that could mean Chinese brands are a mere step away from the lucrative U.S. market.
What's going on?
Last week, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced a new strategic partnership with China that essentially reopens Canada to Chinese EVs. This is a reversal of recent history, as for the past two years, Canada has stood beside the U.S. regarding Chinese EV tariffs. After the Biden administration implemented 100% tariffs on Chinese EVs, Canada followed with similar moves -- but that's changing.
Tucked away in a much broader trade agreement between Prime Minister Carney and Beijing, China, last week, Canada agreed to let in an annual quota of just under 50,000 Chinese EVs into the country at a tariff rate of only 6.1%. In return China will lower tariffs on Canadian canola seed from about 85% down to 15%, and to remove restrictions on lobster and crab.
At first glance, investors might brush this off due to the low annual volume, which represents less than 3% of the new-vehicle market in Canada. But brushing this development off could be a mistake.
This could be the first step of opening the Chinese EV floodgates into part of North America, especially with the government's prediction that within five years, "more than 50% of these vehicles will be affordable EVs with an import price of less than $35,000," a price range that should remain competitive. Canada is attempting to lure some big Chinese companies to set up shop up north, with a closer eye on the lucrative U.S. market and smaller tariff headaches.
What it all means
The truth is that Chinese automakers are developing, producing, and selling some of the world's most advanced and most affordable EVs on the planet, and not only are the brands making inroads overseas in Europe, they have eyes on the U.S. market. It's likely not a matter of if, but when, Chinese brands enter the U.S. market, and Detroit automakers don't have long to prepare, adjust, and innovate to compete at the necessary price points and quality levels.
Years ago, analysts had scattered warnings about foreign automakers needing to pull back in China, but now the warnings are that the Chinese are heading to America, and long-term investors should keep an eye on these developments because Chinese vehicles in the U.S. will dramatically alter business, market share, and profitability and make returns much more uncertain.

Country music singer Willie Nelson was a relatively young 48 when he released a song with the lyrics, "Nothing lasts forever but old Fords (NYSE: F) and a natural stone." Nelson is 92 now, but his sentiment that only a few things last forever is still applicable (though we could probably quibble over exactly which items make the list).
Investors sometimes talk about "forever" stocks. However, exceptional stocks that you can truly hold onto for decades are rare. That said, they do exist – and some offer attractive dividends. Here are my picks for the best dividend stocks to buy and hold forever.

1. AbbVie
Let's start with the fact that AbbVie (NYSE: ABBV) is a Dividend King. To become a member of this exclusive group, a company must increase its dividend for at least 50 consecutive years. AbbVie's streak of dividend increases is now at 53 years, including the time it was part of Abbott Laboratories (NYSE: ABT).
Some Dividend Kings offer paltry dividend yields. Not AbbVie. The big drugmaker's forward dividend yield is around 3.2%, almost three times higher than that of the S&P 500 (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC). And AbbVie's yield would be even higher if its stock hadn't delivered such strong gains over the past few years.
You might question why I'd include the stock of a company that has existed as an independent entity for only 13 years on the list of the best dividend stocks to buy and hold forever. My first answer is that AbbVie has actually been in business much longer. Its parent, Abbott, was founded in 1888.
More importantly, though, AbbVie has demonstrated its resilience. The company faced a scary patent cliff when its longtime best-selling autoimmune disease drug, Humira, lost patent exclusivity three years ago. However, AbbVie's investments in research and development and smart acquisitions paid off. The big drugmaker continues to grow, thanks to a strong lineup of rising stars.
2. The Coca-Cola Company
The Coca-Cola Company (NYSE: KO) is an even "kinglier" Dividend King than AbbVie. The beverage giant has increased its dividend for 63 consecutive years. It's highly likely that Coca-Cola will extend the streak soon.
Coca-Cola's forward dividend yield currently tops 2.8%. This level is slightly below the average dividend yield over the last 10 years of nearly 3.1%, but it's still high enough to be attractive to income investors.
I doubt many people would argue against Coca-Cola's credentials as a stock to buy and hold forever. After all, the company has survived and thrived for going on 140 years. The stock is one of the bluest blue chip stocks on the market.
Don't write off Coke's growth prospects, either. The company's market share in developed markets is only 14%, with its market share in developing and emerging markets an even lower 7%.
3. Realty Income
Realty Income (NYSE: O) isn't a Dividend King like AbbVie and Coca-Cola. It hasn't been around for more than a century as those two companies have, either. However, I believe this real estate investment trust (REIT) is still a compelling dividend stock to buy and hold forever.
One reason why is Realty Income's sterling track record of dividend hikes. The REIT has increased its dividend for more than 30 consecutive years. It has also increased its dividend 133 times since going public in 1994.
Realty Income's dividend is more attractive than AbbVie's and Coca-Cola's on two fronts. First, its forward dividend yield of 5.3% is much higher. Second, the company pays its dividend monthly rather than quarterly.
While AbbVie and Coca-Cola have demonstrated their stability through the years, so has Realty Income. Its beta over the last three decades is a low 0.5, indicating a low volatility level. The REIT has also generated positive total operational returns (adjusted funds from operations growth plus dividend yield) for 29 consecutive years.
