Ford Motor Company develops, delivers, and services a range of Ford trucks, commercial cars and vans, sport utility vehicles, and Lincoln luxury vehicles worldwide. It operates through Ford Blue, Ford Model e, and Ford Pro; Ford Next; and Ford Credit segments. The company sells Ford and Lincoln vehicles, service parts, and accessories through distributors and dealers, as well as through dealerships to commercial fleet customers, daily rental car companies, and governments. It also engages in vehicle-related financing and leasing activities to and through automotive dealers. In addition, the company provides retail installment sale contracts for new and used vehicles; and direct financing leases for new vehicles to retail and commercial customers, such as leasing companies, government entities, daily rental companies, and fleet customers. Further, it offers wholesale loans to dealers to finance the purchase of vehicle inventory; and loans to dealers to finance working capital and enhance dealership facilities, purchase dealership real estate, and other dealer vehicle programs. The company was incorporated in 1903 and is based in Dearborn, Michigan.

Ford looks like a large but capital-intensive business with a notable discount on valuation multiples and, at the same time, serious constraints in earnings quality. P/S of 0.26 and P/FCF of 8.02 look attractive relative to the industry, while P/B of 1.74 is around the median, suggesting that the market is not pricing in an excessive premium for assets. At the same time, P/E and profitability metrics on a TTM basis essentially do not provide a basis for a re-rating: ROE, ROA, ROI, net margin, and operating margin are all zero, which sharply worsens the investment profile. The debt burden is especially concerning: debt/equity of 3.07 is significantly above the industry norm, and long-term debt above $109 billion continues to grow, increasing sensitivity to rates and the cycle. Liquidity remains acceptable, but not comfortable: current ratio of 1.09 is below the median, and quick ratio of 0.93 is only slightly better than the industry, so the margin of safety is limited. The strength lies in the scale of revenue, which remains very high, while net income and operating income in certain periods have shown recovery, confirming the company’s ability to generate profit in favorable quarters. However, margin dynamics are weak: gross margin in TTM of 8.04 is noticeably below historical levels in recent quarters, and gross profit and EBITDA appear volatile, indicating unstable operating leverage. Shareholders’ equity and net worth remain significant, but their quality for shareholders is declining amid high leverage and weak current returns on capital. Dividend yield of 1.07% is below last year’s levels, so the dividend factor no longer offsets operating risks as it once did. Overall, the fundamentals support a cautious rather than aggressive view: the valuation does not look expensive on sales and FCF, but weak profitability and high debt limit the potential for multiple expansion. For an investor, this means fair value should account for a discount for cyclicality, capital intensity, and margin instability, despite the business’s scale and moderate asset-based valuation.

Which stock would I buy in 2026?
I'd go with General Motors. Its core business is delivering excellent results, with record quarterly earnings, a raised full-year outlook, and billions returned to shareholders through dividends and buybacks. The truck and SUV franchise is as strong as it has been in years, and the EV business is scaling faster than most investors expected.
Ford, to its credit, raised its full-year outlook after a solid second quarter and achieved the top ranking among mainstream brands in the J.D. Power Initial Quality Study. But Ford has been navigating a complicated restructuring for several years now, and the results keep getting interrupted by unexpected costs. A shortage of aluminum from a key supplier and a large unexpected expense from backing out of a battery plant partnership are the latest examples of a business that has yet to string together the kind of consistent execution that long-term investors look for.
GM is executing cleanly right now, while Ford is navigating too many moving parts to inspire the same confidence. Both companies have the brands and the ambition to compete in the EV era, but GM is doing it from a position of strength that Ford has not yet matched.

(RTTNews) - Ford Motor Co. (F) announced its plan to build a new $1 billion state-of-the-art paint shop at Kentucky Truck Plant.
The new investment, which is aimed at growth in manufacturing, will replace the facility's existing paint shop. The move would further modernize the Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville, which is Ford's largest and highest revenue U.S. manufacturing plant, where a vehicle rolls off the assembly line every 45 seconds.
Groundbreaking of the plant is expected by late this year.
The automajor noted that Louisville Assembly Plant is currently undergoing installation of its new Universal EV Production System. The investment will support production of the Ford Fathom, a midsize electric pickup expected to launch in 2027.
The project would create or secure around 2,200 jobs in Louisville while transforming the facility into Ford's major advanced and flexible EV manufacturing plant.
According to Ford, its total economic impact in Kentucky exceeds $33 billion with vendors and suppliers. Ford is Kentucky's largest auto manufacturer with more than 11,500 employees.
The firm recently invested around $2 billion for the transformation of Louisville Assembly Plant into the new manufacturing center for Ford's new Universal Electric Vehicle Platform. Further, around $2 billion would be invested at Ford Energy Systems in Glendale, which will manufacture battery energy storage systems.
The company added that its $2 billion investment in the future of Ford Energy would convert the former battery manufacturing site in Glendale, Kentucky, into a large-scale producer of battery energy storage systems.
The investment is expected to create at least 2,100 new jobs and support annual production capacity of at least 20 gigawatt-hours of energy storage, with production beginning in late 2027.
In the overnight trading on the NYSE, Ford shares were trading at $13.93, up 0.36 percent.

There are a lot of moving parts and variables for investors to consider when researching Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F). On one hand, Ford is a Detroit icon and a global legacy automotive giant, which comes with much more stable business than upstart companies such as Rivian (NASDAQ: RIVN) or Lucid (NASDAQ: LCID). On the other hand, Ford doesn't intend to become extinct and is investing heavily in the future of software-defined vehicles, autonomous technology, and electric vehicles (EV), and is even thinking outside the box by trying to win defense contracts. If you're scratching the surface of Ford as a long-term investment, here are three things you need to consider.
Portfolio refresh!
It's no secret in the automotive industry that fresh product sells faster, and it sells without needing margin-eroding incentives and deals. Investors may have missed the details, but Ford created a new team: product creation and industrialization. While it might take a little time for the name to catch on, this team is responsible for a massive portfolio refresh.

More specifically, by 2029 Ford plans to refresh a staggering 80% of its North American portfolio by volume, and 70% of its global portfolio by volume. Included in that portfolio turnover is the first vehicle on Ford's lauded Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) platform, the Fathom midsize pickup. The refresh will also deliver the next-generation F-150 and F-Series Super Duty. These vehicles haul big bucks and lucrative margins.
An overlooked aspect of this refresh will be what it does to the fleet of Ford vehicles hitting the road. By 2030, 90% of Ford's vehicles by volume will feature updated electrical architectures and next-generation over-the-air capability. The reason this is important is it enables more rapid rollout of Ford's BlueCruise and Ford Digital Experience, which will aid the company in progressing toward Level 3 autonomous driving and help the company improve the value of its digital offerings, which can be monetized.
Over the next few years, Ford's product portfolio in its most profitable region, North America, will be more fresh, more advanced, and more profitable.
Outside the box
Young investors likely have never heard of Ford Aerospace division. That's because Ford completely exited the defense sector in 1990, but after rival General Motors (NYSE: GM) revived GM Defense in 2017, it seems Ford felt compelled to reconsider the industry. Ford has secured a U.S. Department of Defense prototype contract to build three heavy-duty tactical truck prototypes from the automaker's well-known F-Series Super Duty platform. For an example of how these contracts can add up, consider Ford's bid for the U.K. Ministry of Defence's Light Mobility Vehicle program, valued at $2.7 billion.
A completely different example of how Ford is evolving toward a new and potentially more lucrative future can be found with Ford Energy. Behind the scenes, Ford prepared a new business by securing supply chains and manufacturing sites, and what the automaker delivered was a subsidiary that will provide battery energy storage systems (BESS) for utilities, artificial intelligence (AI) data centers, and other large industrial customers. Ford plans to produce roughly 20 GWh annually with the first customer deliveries planned late next year. Analysts with Morgan Stanley and Barclays predict Ford Energy at full scale could generate between $500 million and $600 million in annual operating profit (EBIT) by the end of the decade.
Ford may be a legacy automaker, but that doesn't mean it isn't thinking outside the box to drive new streams of revenue and bottom-line profits.
Sleep at night
Ford has long been known for its lofty dividend, which currently pays out $0.15 per share quarterly, for a total $0.60 per share annually. That puts its current dividend yield at about 4.1%, which is lower than normal partly due to a spike in Ford's share price during May. What income investors often overlook with Ford's dividend is that the company frequently dishes out "special dividends" when it has a bit of extra cash and doesn't want to permanently raise the baseline dividend commitment. In early 2024, Ford dished out an $0.18-per-share special dividend. It delivered another $0.15-per-share special dividend in February 2025.
Is Ford a buy?
If you're an investor scratching the surface of Ford as a long-term investment, it's important to keep in mind that the company is driving a massive portfolio refresh in its profit engine, North America, while thinking outside the box for new revenue streams with Ford Energy and defense contracts. To top it off, the company offers a lucrative dividend yield with frequent special dividends helping investors offset the cyclicity of the auto industry. Ford has work to do to change the narrative of its low-margin automotive business, but that's something it can do as more high-margin business seeps into the sector through driverless vehicle technology and as digital subscription services become more prevalent.

How Style Scores Work with the Zacks Rank
The Zacks Rank, which is a proprietary stock-rating model, employs earnings estimate revisions, or changes to a company's earnings expectations, to make building a winning portfolio easier.

Why Ford Motor Company (F) is a Top Momentum Stock for the Long-Term

The stock has since given back about half of its May surge, and that gives investors who see long-term growth an opportunity to jump back in at a better price.

Ford Energy provides a growing, stable revenue stream
In May, the Detroit automaker announced its wholly owned subsidiary, called Ford Energy, which will develop and offer a battery energy storage system (BESS) for utility customers, AI data centers, and other large industrial and commercial customers. Savvy investors may have seen this coming, but for the most part, Ford built the new business behind the scenes, securing supply chains and preparing manufacturing. Ford Energy will manufacture battery cells, assemble modules and containers, and offer sales and service support, which could be the lucrative part. That's because the automaker's Ford Energy DC block was designed to have a stable and predictable lifetime performance for about two decades.
To help connect the dots for investors wondering, AI data centers run intense workloads that put immense strain on the electrical grid. Ford's BESS give AI data centers security in the event of electrical grid fluctuations or blackouts, as the centers need an uninterrupted power supply. The systems will also provide power during AI workload spikes, charge when electricity is cheap, and discharge when prices peak, ultimately lowering costs and providing downtime protection.
"Energy storage is a new business, but they have the right technology," a collection of Morgan Stanley analysts led by Andrew Percoco wrote in a note. "[W]e see this as an opportunity for Ford to deploy capital into a strategic growth area with a structure that preserves operational control and regulatory alignment."
Lucrative or hype?
So Ford developed a product that solves real problems for AI data centers, among other customers, but how lucrative could it be? According to J.P. Morgan analysts, Ford Energy at full capacity -- it's targeting production of 20 gigawatt-hours of annual energy storage capacity -- the business could generate over $4 billion in annual revenue and roughly $250 million to $500 million in annual operating profit by the end of the decade. But the benefits for Ford investors don't stop there, as Ford Energy could use its underutilized electric-vehicle (EV) battery plants, which would help push its Model e division to profitability much sooner than from building scale with EVs alone. That's a huge deal when you consider that Ford's Model e division, responsible for its EVs, has lost more than $18 billion total between 2022 and the second quarter of 2026.
EDF Power Solutions has already signed a five-year agreement with Ford Energy to purchase up to 20 gigawatt-hours of large BESS, with deliveries set to begin in 2028. Here's the kicker: While this is a great move for Ford and its investors, the company is still make-or-break in its traditional businesses. If by 2030 Ford Energy indeed generates the high end of estimates, $500 million in operating profit, it moves the needle a bit compared with Ford's 2025 adjusted earnings before interest and taxes of $6.8 billion. For investors, that leaves it as an overlooked play on AI, with the caveat that it's mostly still a traditionally low-margin automaker. However, this low-margin narrative is changing as more high-margin software-defined business spreads throughout vehicles and services.
If you're looking for a pure-play AI stock, Ford won't be that. However, if you're an industrial or automotive investor looking for upside between the many options, this is a great development to identify and include in your investment thesis, because it can move the needle and it could continue to grow high-margin business at Ford.
