Ford Motor Company develops, delivers, and services a range of Ford trucks, commercial cars and vans, sport utility vehicles, and Lincoln luxury vehicles worldwide. It operates through Ford Blue, Ford Model e, and Ford Pro; Ford Next; and Ford Credit segments. The company sells Ford and Lincoln vehicles, service parts, and accessories through distributors and dealers, as well as through dealerships to commercial fleet customers, daily rental car companies, and governments. It also engages in vehicle-related financing and leasing activities to and through automotive dealers. In addition, the company provides retail installment sale contracts for new and used vehicles; and direct financing leases for new vehicles to retail and commercial customers, such as leasing companies, government entities, daily rental companies, and fleet customers. Further, it offers wholesale loans to dealers to finance the purchase of vehicle inventory; and loans to dealers to finance working capital and enhance dealership facilities, purchase dealership real estate, and other dealer vehicle programs. The company was incorporated in 1903 and is based in Dearborn, Michigan.

Ford appears undervalued on valuation multiples, but earnings quality and the sustainability of profitability have not yet confirmed aggressive upside. P/S of 0.31 and P/FCF of 6.09 are notably below industry medians, which supports the valuation, while P/B of 1.65 is only slightly below the market and does not look extremely cheap. At the same time, P/E and ROE/ROA/ROI in TTM are zero, indicating weakness in the latest reporting periods and limiting confidence in a recovery. Historically in 2025, the company showed positive ROE, ROA, and operating margin, but in the latest available points these metrics dropped to zero, meaning the efficiency trend has deteriorated. Gross margin of 8.04% is significantly below the industry median and has also fallen from prior levels of around 13–14%, suggesting pressure on pricing and cost structure. Operating margin and net margin in TTM are also zero, so current profitability looks unstable despite positive EBITDA, operating income, and net income in absolute terms. Revenue and earnings remain large, and net income and operating income in TTM are positive, confirming the scale of the business and its ability to generate cash flow. However, debt remains very high: debt/equity of 2.84 is significantly above the industry, and long-term debt of over 106 billion creates notable financial risk and limits re-rating. Liquidity is acceptable but not strong: a current ratio of 1.09 and quick ratio of 0.94 do not provide much of a safety margin. Dividend yield has declined from last year’s levels, so the dividend factor supports the stock only moderately. Overall, the fundamentals rather justify a cautious downward adjustment: cheap valuation and business scale are offset by weak margins, high leverage, and deteriorating profitability.

The S&P 500 Index ($SPX) (SPY) on Wednesday closed down -1.52%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average ($DOWI) (DIA) closed down -2.19%, and the Nasdaq 100 Index ($IUXX) (QQQ) closed down -2.06%. September E-mini S&P futures (ESU26) fell -1.59%, and September E-mini Nasdaq futures (NQU26) fell -2.23%.
Stock indexes retreated on Wednesday, with the S&P 500 sliding to a 1-month low and the Nasdaq 100 sinking to a 3-month low. Chipmakers and AI infrastructure stocks sold off on Wednesday, leading the overall market lower. Also, heightened geopolitical risks are weighing on stocks as crude prices surged, and bond yields jumped when President Trump said the US will “hit Iran hard” after a recent attack from Iran that targeted a US base in Jordan.

Stocks whipsawed Wednesday afternoon and briefly erased their losses before selling off again into the close after the FOMC kept interest rates unchanged in a hawkish Fed hold. Three Fed members dissented in favor of a quarter-point rate hike, and Fed Chair Warsh said the Fed is committed to “deliver price stability.” The 10-year T-note yield rose +4 bp to 4.64%.
Earnings results from Microsoft and Meta Platforms after Wednesday’s close will be looked at to see whether the vast spending behind the buildout of artificial intelligence can deliver adequate returns.
The FOMC, as expected, kept the fed funds target range unchanged at 3.50% to 3.75% in a 9-3 vote, with Cleveland Fed President Beth Hammack, Minneapolis Fed President Neel Kashkari, and Dallas Fed President Lorie Logan voting for a quarter-point rate hike.
The post-FOMC statement said, "Economic activity is expanding at a solid pace despite elevated uncertainty that owes, in part, to the conflict in the Middle East," adding that "productivity growth and capital investment are strong." Inflation remains elevated "in part reflecting supply shocks that have driven price increases in certain sectors, including energy."
Fed Chair Warsh said, "The economy is showing impressive resilience" even with recent shocks and policymakers "will not hesitate to act" if inflation remains elevated.
Sep WTI crude oil prices (CLU26) jumped by more than +6% on Wednesday as the recent lull in hostilities came to an abrupt end after the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it targeted a US airbase and command center in Jordan with ballistic missiles. The IRGC also claimed to have hit and halted three tankers attempting to transit through the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, the US and Saudi Arabia launched a joint attack on "Iran-aligned terrorists" in Iraq after the IRGC directed them to target US forces and Saudi energy infrastructure.
Tensions remain high in the Middle East as the US maintains its blockade of Iranian oil shipments in the Persian Gulf. Also, diplomatic attempts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz appear to be at an impasse. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Gharibabadi said Oman's proposal for a route through the Strait of Hormuz, with 50% under Iran's control and 50% under Oman's, would not address Iran's concerns and that the inbound passage and part of the outbound channel must be entirely under Iran's control.
US MBA mortgage applications fell -6.4% in the week ended July 24, with the purchase mortgage sub-index down -3.6% and the refinancing mortgage sub-index down -9.9%. The average 30-year fixed rate mortgage rose +7 bp to an 11.5-month high of 6.76% from 6.69% the prior week.
The outlook for strong Q2 earnings, which continue this week, is a bullish factor for stocks. The markets are awaiting results from a raft of megacap technology companies this week, including Microsoft and Meta Platforms today, and Amazon.com and Apple on Thursday. Forecasts compiled by Bloomberg Intelligence suggest Q2 earnings may increase by +23%, close to Q1’s blowout earnings of +30%, which was more than double the +12% analysts had expected. AI spending is expected to account for most of earnings, with AI infrastructure stocks set to contribute nearly 60% of the S&P 500's earnings-per-share growth in Q2. So far, earnings results have been positive, with 87% of the 216 S&P 500 companies that have reported Q2 earnings beating estimates, according to Bloomberg data.
The markets are discounting a 56% chance of a +25 bp rate hike at the next FOMC meeting on September 15-16.
Overseas stock markets settled mixed on Wednesday. The Euro Stoxx 50 closed down -0.65%. China's Shanghai Composite rebounded from a 1-week low and closed up +0.40%. Japan's Nikkei-225 Stock Average fell to a 2.25-month low and closed down -1.49%.
Interest Rates
September 10-year T-notes (ZNU6) on Wednesday closed down -1 tick. The 10-year T-note yield rose +3.3 bp to 4.639%. T-notes were under pressure from Wednesday’s +6% surge in crude oil prices, which raises inflation expectations and is hawkish for Fed policy. Also, the FOMC's hawkish hold on interest rates weighed on T-note prices after three Fed members dissented in favor of a 25 bp rate hike, and Fed Chair Warsh said policymakers "will not hesitate to act" if inflation remains elevated.
European government bond yields moved higher on Wednesday. The 10-year German bund yield rose +5.6 bp to 3.160%. The 10-year UK gilt yield rose +9.2 bp to 5.036%.
The German Jun import price index eased to 6.1% y/y from 6.8% y/y in May.
The markets are discounting a 90% chance of a +25 bp ECB rate hike at their next policy meeting on September 10.
US Stock Movers
Chipmakers and AI-infrastructure stocks fell sharply on Wednesday, weighing on the broader market. The Philadelphia Stock Exchange Semiconductor Index ($SOX) dropped to a 2.5-month low and closed down more than -5%. Nebius Group NV (NBIS) closed down more than -12% to lead losers in the Nasdaq 100, and KLA Corp (KLAC) closed down more than -10%. Also, Micron Technology (MU) closed down more than -9%, and Applied Materials (AMAT) and ARM Holdings (ARM) closed down by more than -8%. In addition, Sandisk (SNDK) and NXP Semiconductors NV (NXPI) closed down more than -7%, and Marvell Technology (MRVL) and Lam Research (LRCX) closed down more than -6%. Finally, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), Microchip Technology (MCHP), and Intel (INTC) closed down more than -5%.
Airline stocks fell on Wednesday as crude oil prices surged. Alaska Air Group (ALK) closed down more than -5%, and Southwest Airlines (LUV) closed down more than -4%. Also, Delta Air Lines (DAL), American Airlines Group (AAL), and United Airlines Holdings (UAL) closed down more than -3%.
Trucking and freight companies were under pressure on Wednesday amid soaring crude oil prices. ArcBest (ARCB) closed down more than -5%, and FedEx Freight Holding (FDXF) closed down more than -4%. Also, Saia Inc (SAIA) closed down more than -3%, and Old Dominion Freight Line (ODFL) and XPO Inc (XPO) closed down more than -2%. In addition, Marten Transport Ltd (MRTN) closed down more than -1%.
Most software stocks rose on Wednesday as investors rotated out of chipmakers into software. Intuit (INTU) closed up more than +6%, and Adobe Systems (ADBE), Datadog (DDOG), and Workday (WDAY) closed up more than +5%. Also, Atlassian Corp (TEAM) and ServiceNow (NOW) closed up more than +4%, and Salesforce (CRM) closed up more than +3% to lead gainers in the Dow Jones Industrials. In addition, Autodesk (ADSK) closed up more than +3%, and Thomson Reuters (TRI) closed up more than +2%.
Energy producers and service providers rallied on Wednesday, as crude oil prices jumped by more than +6%. APA Corp (APA) closed up more than +5%, and Diamondback Energy (FANG) and Devon Energy (DVN) closed up more than +4%. Also, ConocoPhillips (COP) and Occidental Petroleum (OXY) closed up more than +3%, and ExxonMobil Holdings (XOM) and Chevron (CVX) closed up more than +2%.
Lennox International (LII) closed down more than -20% to lead losers in the S&P 500 after reporting Q2 net sales of $1.55 billion, weaker than the consensus of $1.56 billion.
Vertiv Holdings (VRT) closed down more than -17% after reporting Q2 net sales of $3.27 billion, below the consensus of $3.39 billion.
Masco Corp (MAS) closed down more than -11% after reporting Q2 net sales of $1.99 billion, weaker than the consensus of $2.08 billion.
Caterpillar (CAT) closed down more than -6% to lead losers in the Dow Jones industrials after Baird downgraded the stock to neutral from outperform, citing a growing trend of state and local government actions targeting data centers, a key growth driver for the company.
Avis Budget Group (CAR) closed down more than -6% after reporting Q2 EPS of 98 cents, well below the consensus of $1.91.
Humana (HUM) closed down more than -5% after it maintained its full-year profit outlook despite posting better-than-expected Q2 profit.
Garmin Ltd (GRMN) closed up more than +16% to lead gainers in the S&P 500 after reporting Q2 revenue of $2.02 billion, above the consensus of $1.92 billion, and raising its full-year revenue estimate to $8.05 billion from a previous estimate of $7.90 billion, stronger than the consensus of $7.99 billion.
GE Healthcare (GEHC) closed up more than +12% to lead gainers in the Nasdaq 100 after reporting Q2 adjusted EPS of $1.13, better than the consensus of $1.04.
Amphenol (APH) closed up more than +4% after reporting Q2 net sales of $8.76 billion, better than the consensus of $8.31 billion.
Ford Motor (F) closed up more than +2% after raising its full-year adjusted EBIT to $10 billion to $11 billion from a previous forecast of $8.5 billion to $10.5 billion.

Stocks Plunge on a Rout in Chipmakers and a Hawkish Fed Hold

General Motors GM) and Ford Motor F) have both delivered better-than-expected second-quarter results, reinforcing the resilience of Detroit's legacy automakers despite a challenging backdrop that includes tariffs, slowing EV demand, and elevated interest rates.
Better pricing, disciplined cost controls, and continued strength in trucks and SUVs helped both companies top Wall Street's expectations while raising their full-year outlooks.
Following their upbeat Q2 reports, investors may be wondering whether the recent rally in both stocks has further room to run, with GM spiking 18% this month and F up 11%.

GM Continues to Execute at a High Level
Reporting Q2 results last week, General Motors once again demonstrated why it has become one of the auto industry's most consistent earnings performers.
General Motors reported Q2 revenue of $48.02 billion, up nearly 2% year over year and comfortably exceeding estimates of $46.55 billion by 3%.
More impressively, Q2 adjusted EPS of $3.57 soared 41% from earnings of $2.53 per share in the prior year quarter and crushed expectations of $3.13.

GM raised its full-year guidance for the second time this year across several key metrics, increasing its adjusted EBIT (Earnings Before Interest and Taxes) outlook to a range of $14 billion to $16 billion, raising its adjusted EPS guidance to $12 to $14, and boosting its adjusted automotive free cash flow forecast to between $9.5 billion and $11.5 billion.
Operationally, North America remained the primary profit engine. GM generated an impressive 8.6% adjusted EBIT margin in the region, benefiting from continued demand for its full-size pickup trucks and SUVs, disciplined pricing, lower warranty costs, and improving EV profitability. Management also highlighted record adoption of its Super Cruise driver-assistance technology and improving efficiency across its manufacturing footprint.
These results suggest GM's strategy of balancing traditional internal combustion vehicles with a more measured EV transition is paying off. It’s also noteworthy that in the current global automotive landscape, a healthy EBIT margin for an automaker is generally considered to be in the low single digits.
Illustrating strong operational profitability and efficiency, GM’s trailing 12-month EBIT margin is at an industry-leading 5.78%, with Ford’s being roughly on par with the Zacks Automotive-Domestic Industry average of 2.81%.

Ford Delivers an Encouraging Quarter
Ford also impressed investors with an earnings beat and a higher full-year outlook after reporting Q2 results yesterday evening.
Adjusted EPS came in at $0.42, rising from $0.37 per share a year ago and beating expectations of $0.33 by 27%.
Ford's operational performance remained encouraging, as adjusted EBIT climbed 17% YoY to $2.5 billion, highlighting the benefits of stronger pricing, a favorable product mix, and improving cost discipline.
This was despite Q2 revenue of $44.89 billion falling from $46.94 billion in the prior year quarter and missing estimates of $45.71 billion. That said, the company capitalized on a richer mix of high-margin trucks and SUVs while improving cost controls amid slower volume sales, which were attributed to discontinued vehicle models such as the Ford Escape.
Ford raised its full-year adjusted EBIT forecast to $10 billion-$11 billion, up from $8.5 billion-$10.5 billion, while also increasing its free cash flow outlook by roughly $1 billion to a range of $10 billion-$11 billion. Managment cited improving U.S. vehicle pricing, recovering aluminum supplies, and expected tariff refunds as key drivers behind the stronger outlook.

GM & Ford Valuation Comparison
Despite their impressive rallies, both stocks remain inexpensive compared to the broader market.
GM continues to trade at a significant discount to the S&P 500, offering one of the lowest forward earnings multiples among large-cap industrial companies at 6X. Given General Motors improving earnings outlook, expanding margins, and strong free cash flow generation, that discount may prove difficult to justify if execution remains consistent.
Ford is also attractively valued at 9X forward earnings, although the market appears to be assigning a modest premium relative to GM because of its improving profitability and generous shareholder returns.

To that point, Ford's dividend remains an added attraction for income-oriented investors at 4.01% compared to GM’s 0.8%. Still, GM's accelerating earnings growth and aggressive share repurchases have arguably created greater shareholder value in recent years.

GM and Ford both demonstrated that legacy automakers can still generate impressive earnings growth despite ongoing uncertainty surrounding tariffs, EV demand, and the broader economy.
For investors seeking the stronger combination of earnings momentum, improving profitability, and an attractive valuation, GM appears to have the edge following its impressive Q2 performance and second guidance increase of the year.
However, Ford's raised outlook, improving execution, and shareholder-friendly capital return strategy continue to make it an appealing long-term investment as well.
Supported by improving fundamentals and continued upward earnings estimate revisions, GM stock currently sports a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy), while Ford shares land a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).

Investors cheered Ford’s earnings beat and move to increase full-year 2026 guidance. Management meaningfully boosted the low end of expected adjusted earnings, while also raising the upper end of the range by $500 million to $10.5 billion. Even with capital expenditure plans unchanged, the company now sees an additional $1 billion in adjusted free cash flow.
Ford has many moving parts across its consumer, commercial, and electric vehicle segments, but one focus for investors is the persistent product quality headwinds affecting its results. There was good news here, though, that helps explain today's stock move.
The company said it remains on track to see $1 billion in material and warranty cost reductions this year. Continuous improvement on that front can keep Ford stock moving higher.

The outlook for strong Q2 earnings, which continue this week, is a bullish factor for stocks. The markets are awaiting results from a raft of megacap technology companies this week, including Microsoft and Meta Platforms today, and Amazon.com and Apple on Thursday. Forecasts compiled by Bloomberg Intelligence suggest Q2 earnings may increase by +23%, close to Q1’s blowout earnings of +30%, which was more than double the +12% analysts had expected. AI spending is expected to account for most of earnings, with AI infrastructure stocks set to contribute nearly 60% of the S&P 500's earnings-per-share growth in Q2. So far, earnings results have been positive, with 87% of the 216 S&P 500 companies that have reported Q2 earnings beating estimates, according to Bloomberg data.
The markets are discounting a 34% chance of a +25 bp rate hike at the conclusion of today’s FOMC meeting.
Overseas stock markets are mixed today. The Euro Stoxx 50 is down -0.73%. China's Shanghai Composite rebounded from a 1-week low and closed up +0.40%. Japan's Nikkei-225 Stock Average fell to a 2.25-month low and closed down -1.49%.
Interest Rates
September 10-year T-notes (ZNU6) today are down -9 ticks. The 10-year T-note yield is up +3.0 bp to 4.637%. T-notes are under pressure today from a +7% surge in crude oil prices, which raises inflation expectations and is hawkish for Fed policy. Also, long liquidation and position evening are weighing on T-notes ahead of the FOMC’s interest rate decision later today.
European government bond yields are moving higher today. The 10-year German bund yield is up +5.0 bp to 3.154%. The 10-year UK gilt yield is up +7.7 bp to 5.021%.
The German Jun import price index eased to 6.1% y/y from 6.8% y/y in May.
The markets are discounting an 88% chance of a +25 bp ECB rate hike at its next policy meeting on September 10.

Stocks Tumble as Chipmakers Plunge, Oil Spikes

Key Points
The company now expects higher adjusted operating earnings and free cash flow in 2026.
Ford continues to see strong demand for its F-Series and is seeing less pressure in other parts of the business.
The dividend remains a key part of the investment thesis.
Despite a slight miss on revenue, shares of Ford Motor Co.traded more than 3% higher as of 1:13 p.m. ET today after the company raised its full-year guidance.
In the second quarter, Ford reported adjusted earnings per share of $0.42, $0.07 higher than Wall Street consensus estimates. Revenue of $44.89 billion missed estimates of $45.86 billion.

Still, investors breezed past the revenue miss after the U.S. automaker raised its full-year adjusted EBIT guidance to between $10 billion and $11 billion, up from a prior range of $8.5 billion to $10.5 billion.
Ford also raised its full-year free cash flow guidance to between $6 billion and $7 billion, up $1 billion from its prior guided range.

Improvements in several areas of the business
Ford’s Blue division, the company’s gas and hybrid division, saw revenue of $26.1 billion in the quarter, up slightly on a year-over-year basis and over $2 billion from the prior quarter. EBIT of $1.1 billion also rose by about $400 million from the prior year.
Ford Blue continues to be powered by the company’s F-Series of trucks.
Ford CEO Jim Farley on the company’s conference call said the F-Series remains the number one truck brand, out-selling its closest competitor by over 80,000 units in the first six months of the year. Ford is also gearing up to release all-new F-Series and Super Duty truck models.
Ford’s electric vehicle division, which the company has been right-sizing, generated $1 billion in revenue and an EBIT loss of $900 million, trending better than in 2025.
Baked into the company’s updated guidance is a seasonally adjusted annual selling rate of 16 million to 16.5 million units.
Furthermore, the impact of fires at Ford’s Novelis aluminum factory, which significantly hurt production, is now expected to be $1 billion less this year than in 2025.
Ford’s guidance, however, does not include the potential impact from further escalation in the Middle East or “a material downturn in the U.S. economy.”
In a research note following the earnings report, Citigroup analyst Mike Ward called the results “momentum shifting,” upgrading the stock to a buy rating and assigning a $20 price target.
“Accelerating production of the F-series, lower warranty accruals, an improved aluminum supply and moderating material costs are positive for the second half,” he wrote, according to Barrons.
All about the dividend
With a trailing dividend yield of 3.88%, Ford offers investors strong potential for passive income, so the stock is a buy on this front as long as the dividend remains sustainable.
This year, Ford is on track to pay out roughly $2.4 billion in dividends. The projected free cash flow of $6 billion to $7 billion should easily cover these payments.
Ford is also on track to generate adjusted earnings per share of $2.16, also easily enough to cover the projected $0.60 of annual dividends.
Considering the strength of the dividend and other tailwinds in the business, I do think investors can buy Ford stock.
It’s not necessarily going to be an artificial intelligence multi-bagger overnight, but it can generate solid passive income and solid long-term appreciation.

Meanwhile, the US and Saudi Arabia launched a joint attack on "Iran-aligned terrorists" in Iraq after the IRGC directed them to target US forces and Saudi energy infrastructure.
Tensions remain high in the Middle East as the US maintains its blockade of Iranian oil shipments in the Persian Gulf. Also, diplomatic attempts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz appear to be at an impasse. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Gharibabadi said Oman's proposal for a route through the Strait of Hormuz, with 50% under Iran's control and 50% under Oman's, would not address Iran's concerns and that the inbound passage and part of the outbound channel must be entirely under Iran's control.
US MBA mortgage applications fell -6.4% in the week ended July 24, with the purchase mortgage sub-index down -3.6% and the refinancing mortgage sub-index down -9.9%. The average 30-year fixed rate mortgage rose +7 bp to an 11.5-month high of 6.76% from 6.69% the prior week.
The outlook for strong Q2 earnings, which continue this week, is a bullish factor for stocks. The markets are awaiting results from a raft of megacap technology companies this week, including Microsoft and Meta Platforms today, and Amazon.com and Apple on Thursday. Forecasts compiled by Bloomberg Intelligence suggest Q2 earnings may increase by +23%, close to Q1’s blowout earnings of +30%, which was more than double the +12% analysts had expected. AI spending is expected to account for most of earnings, with AI infrastructure stocks set to contribute nearly 60% of the S&P 500's earnings-per-share growth in Q2. So far, earnings results have been positive, with 86% of the 170 S&P 500 companies that have reported Q2 earnings beating estimates, according to Bloomberg data.
The markets are discounting a 36% chance of a +25 bp rate hike at the conclusion of today’s FOMC meeting.
Overseas stock markets are mixed today. The Euro Stoxx 50 is down -0.48%. China's Shanghai Composite rebounded from a 1-week low and closed up +0.40%. Japan's Nikkei-225 Stock Average fell to a 2.25-month low and closed down -1.49%.
Interest Rates
September 10-year T-notes (ZNU6) today are down -8 ticks. The 10-year T-note yield is up +2.6 bp to 4.633%. T-notes are under pressure today from a +6% surge in crude oil prices, which raises inflation expectations and is hawkish for Fed policy. Also, long liquidation and position evening are weighing on T-notes ahead of the FOMC’s interest rate decision later today.
European government bond yields are moving higher today. The 10-year German bund yield is up +3.2 bp to 3.136%. The 10-year UK gilt yield is up +5.3 bp to 4.997%.
The German Jun import price index eased to 6.1% y/y from 6.8% y/y in May.
The markets are discounting an 88% chance of a +25 bp ECB rate hike at its next policy meeting on September 10.
US Stock Movers
Chipmakers and AI-infrastructure stocks are moving lower today, weighing on the broader market. Nebius Group NV (NBIS) is down more than -8% to lead losers in the Nasdaq 100, and Sandisk (SNDK) is down more than -6%. Also, Applied Materials (AMAT) and KLA Corp (KLAC) are down by more than -4%, and NXP Semiconductors NV (NXPI) and ARM Holdings (ARM) are down by more than -3%. In addition, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), ASML Holding NV (ASML), Micron Technology (MU), Lam Research (LRCX), and Microchip Technology (MCHP) are down more than -2%.
Trucking and freight companies are under pressure today from soaring crude oil prices. ArcBest (ARCB) is down more than -4%, and Old Dominion Freight Line (ODFL) and Saia Inc (SAIA) are down more than -2%. Also, FedEx Freight Holding (FDXF), Knight-Swift Transportation Holdings (KNX), JB Hunt Transport Services (JBHT), Marten Transport Ltd (MRTN), CH Robinson Worldwide (CHRW), and XPO Inc (XPO) are down more than -1%.
Airline stocks are sliding today with the surge in crude oil prices. Alaska Air Group (ALK) and Southwest Airlines (LUV) are down more than -2%, and American Airlines Group (AAL), United Airlines Holdings (UAL), and Delta Air Lines (DAL) are down more than -1%.
Energy producers and service providers are climbing today, with crude oil prices up by more than +6%. ConocoPhillips (COP), Diamondback Energy (FANG), and Valero Energy (VLO) are up more than +3%, and APA Corp (APA), Chevron (CVX), Devon Energy (DVN), ExxonMobil Holdings (XOM), Marathon Petroleum (MPC), Occidental Petroleum (OXY), and Phillips 66 (PSX) are up more than +2%. Also, SLB Ltd (SLB), Baker Hughes (BKR), and Haliburton (HAL) are up more than +1%.
Lennox International (LII) is down more than -13% to lead losers in the S&P 500 after reporting Q2 net sales of $1.55 billion, weaker than the consensus of $1.56 billion.
Vertiv Holdings (VRT) is down more than -8% after reporting Q2 net sales of $3.27 billion, below the consensus of $3.39 billion.
CoStar Group (CSGP) is down more than -8% after reporting Q2 revenue of $925 million, weaker than the consensus of $929.4 million.
Skyworks Solutions (SWKS) is down more than -7% after forecasting Q4 adjusted EPS of $1.27, below the consensus of $1.29.

Stocks Pressured by Renewed US-Iran Hostilities

Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) scaled back from electric vehicle (EV) models last year, and that was certainly good news for Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA). However, the company has now announced major news that can bite into one of Tesla's most lucrative markets.
Ford hinted that its vehicles will achieve "point-to-point autonomy" in 2028. The company has Apple executives working on the technology, and it can help Ford enter the robotaxi industry.

The roads are getting crowded
It's no secret that Tesla is overvalued if you look at it as a car company. The average P/E ratio for automobile stocks is 23.1, and Tesla is doing most of the heavy lifting. It's more common to see automobile stocks with P/E ratios between 5 and 15, and Ford fits in that category.
Tesla shares would have to drop by more than 90% just to have the same valuation as other automakers. The Elon Musk factor has certainly kept the valuation high, but investors have relied on three opportunities to justify the high stock price.
Energy generation is one factor, but that was only up by 13% year over year in Q2. It's a serviceable growth rate, but not when Tesla has a P/E ratio close to 300. The other two opportunities are robotaxis and humanoid robots. While commercialized Optimus units can be a boon for the stock, it depends on competition and demand.
Robotaxis also have the same two variables in play, but Ford's entry in a few years suggests that the roads will get more crowded. If Ford masters the technology for robotaxis, why wouldn't other carmakers like Toyota Motor and Volkswagen get involved? The emergence of more automobile companies creating robotaxi fleets is a feasible risk that will put pressure on Tesla's future margins from that segment.
Tesla has lost market leads in the past
Tesla used to be the defining electric vehicle. Anyone who thought of an EV would instantly think of Tesla. However, research from Edmunds found that Tesla's market share in the U.S. EV industry dropped from nearly 80% in 2019 to 43.9% in 2025.
Investors can easily argue that tariffs on non-U.S. EV makers are the only reason Tesla has the largest U.S. market share in the first place. For instance, Tesla is no longer one of the Top 10 EV brands in China, according to The China Passenger Car Association's ranking. It used to comfortably rank in second place often, only behind BYD, but it has ceded considerable ground. Even on the global stage, BYD has surpassed Tesla in total sales, despite tariffs keeping BYD out of the U.S.
A similar pattern looks to be playing out in the robotaxi opportunity. Ford isn't just sitting around waiting for Tesla to get the entire market share, and other automakers may follow suit. It seems logical that they would work on self-driving technology just as they all gave electric vehicles a try.
Most of those EVs didn't become profitable for traditional automakers, but robotaxis can produce higher margins. If they don't get high margins, it can cast more doubt on Tesla's ability to generate high margins and meaningful growth from its robotaxis.
A lot needs to go right for Tesla
Luckily, the robotaxi industry is a big opportunity. Fortune Business Insights projects a compelling 71.9% CAGR through 2034. Tesla's technology is advanced and already operates in multiple cities. Ford and any other automakers that want to participate in this opportunity have some catching up to do. However, if they eventually catch up, it can put pressure on Tesla's growth rates and profit margins.
Given how high Tesla's valuation is compared to other automakers, there is no room for error. However, Tesla isn't exactly crushing the competition, either. Alphabet's Waymo is in more cities than Tesla's robotaxis. Furthermore, Uber Technologies and Nvidia recently partnered in a plan to launch robotaxis across 28 cities starting next year.
Tesla has a history of ceding market share in key industries and regions. While Tesla is still expected to be a robotaxi winner, the gains may be limited given the current valuation and rising competition. Then, maintaining a P/E ratio close to 300 would come down to humanoid robots.
Tesla needs everything to go right to maintain its current level, and Ford's recent news shows that the situation is far from perfect.

Ford Just Delivered Bad News for Tesla Investors

Ford F reported second-quarter 2026 adjusted earnings of 42 cents per share, beating the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 33 cents by 27.27%. Earnings rose 13.5% from 37 cents a year ago. Favorable mix and net pricing helped lift adjusted EBIT by 17% to $2.5 billion, while adjusted EBIT margin expanded to 5.2% from 4.3%.
Automotive revenues of $44.89 billion fell 4.4% year over year and missed the consensus mark of $45.72 billion by 1.81%. The company’s consolidated second-quarter revenues came in at $48.3 billion, down 3.7% year over year.
Ford Benefits From Stronger Mix and Pricing
Wholesale units declined 12% year over year to 1,039,000, reflecting product discontinuations, aluminum supply constraints and lower Gen-1 electric vehicle volumes. The lower volume base pressured the top line, but Ford’s focus on higher-value products supported profitability.
Strong mix and net pricing were the main contributors to the quarter’s EBIT improvement. Off-road vehicles accounted for nearly one-fourth of U.S. sales, while the Bronco family posted record second-quarter sales.
Ford Motor Company Price, Consensus and EPS Surprise
Ford Blue Posts Sharp Profit Growth
Ford Blue revenues increased 1% year over year to $26.1 billion despite an 8% decline in wholesales to 639,000 units. Segment EBIT climbed 72% to $1.135 billion, while the EBIT margin improved to 4.4% from 2.6%.
The gain reflected favorable product mix, higher net pricing and disciplined channel management. Explorer and Expedition retail sales rose 22%, while the off-road mix increased more than four percentage points in the quarter.
Ford Model e Narrows Its Operating Loss
Ford Model e revenues plunged 56% year over year to $1 billion as wholesales fell 53% to 28,000 units. However, the segment’s EBIT loss narrowed 31% to $919 million, marking a third consecutive quarter of year-over-year improvement.
Structural cost reductions, right-sized Gen-1 volumes and lower U.S. incentives aided results. Management expects Gen-1 EBIT to improve about 40% in 2026 as it continues investing in the Universal Electric Vehicle platform and Ford Energy.
F Pro Results Affected by Aluminum Supply Pressure
Ford Pro revenues declined 5% year over year to $17.8 billion as wholesales fell 13% to 372,000 units. Segment EBIT dropped 26% to $1.718 billion, and the EBIT margin narrowed to 9.7% from 12.3%.
Temporary Novelis-related aluminum constraints weighed on Super Duty production. Ford expects to recover postponed fleet orders in the second half, with additional capacity from the Oakville facility supporting improved availability.
On the brighter side, total paid subscriptions grew about 50% to roughly 1.6 million, including more than 900,000 Ford Pro Intelligence subscriptions. BlueCruise paid subscriptions rose 20% and represented half of retail integrated-services revenues.
Other Tidbits
Ford Credit generated pretax earnings of $757 million, up $112 million from the prior-year quarter. The improvement reflected a strong financing margin, a high-quality portfolio and disciplined capital and risk management.
Operating cash flow totaled $4.3 billion, while adjusted free cash flow was $2.1 billion. Ford ended the quarter with $22.3 billion in cash and $43.4 billion in total liquidity.
The company reported a GAAP net loss of $1.3 billion, including a $3.6 billion largely non-cash charge tied to the BlueOval SK joint venture disposition. Ford also declared a regular quarterly dividend of 15 cents per share.

F Raises Full-Year 2026 Guidance
Ford raised its full-year adjusted EBIT outlook to $10-$11 billion from $8.5-$10.5 billion. It also increased adjusted free cash flow guidance to $6-$7 billion from $5-$6 billion, while keeping capital spending at $9.5-$10.5 billion.
By segment, Ford now expects Ford Blue EBIT of $5-$5.5 billion, Ford Pro EBIT of $7-$7.5 billion, a Model e loss of about $4 billion and Ford Credit pretax earnings above $2.5 billion. The outlook assumes a U.S. SAAR of 16-16.5 million units and about $1 billion in material and warranty cost reductions.

General Motors GM reported second-quarter 2026 adjusted earnings of $3.57 per share, up 41.3% year over year. The figure beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $3.13 by 14.06%. Revenues increased 1.9% to $48.03 billion and surpassed the consensus estimate of $46.56 billion by 3.15%. Strong pricing, lower costs and disciplined incentives supported results. General Motors raised its full-year adjusted EBIT guidance to $14-$16 billion from $13.5-$15.5 billion. Adjusted earnings are now projected to be $12-$14 per share, up from the prior range of $11.50-$13.50.
Tesla TSLA reported second-quarter 2026 adjusted earnings of 33 cents per share, which declined 17.5% year over year. The figure missed the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 50 cents by 34%. Revenues advanced 25.5% to $28.24 billion and surpassed the consensus estimate of $25.81 billion by 9.41%. Tesla expects 2026 capital expenditures to exceed $25 billion and rise further over the next two to three years.
Genuine Parts GPC reported second-quarter 2026 adjusted earnings of $2.15 per share, beating the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $2.10 by 2.38%. The bottom line increased 2.4% from $2.10 in the year-ago quarter. Revenues rose 6% year over year to $6.54 billion and surpassed the consensus estimate of $6.39 billion by 2.36%. Genuine Parts reaffirmed its 2026 adjusted earnings guidance of $7.50-$8 per share and total sales growth outlook of 3-5.5%. Genuine Parts ended June with $2.3 billion of liquidity, including $559 million in cash.

Ford Q2 Earnings Beat on Pricing & Mix, 2026 EBIT & FCF View Raised

(RTTNews) - Ford Motor Company (F) on Tuesday, raised its full-year 2026 guidance after reporting stronger first-half results, despite posting a net loss in the second quarter.
Second-quarter total revenue declined 3.8 percent to $48.30 billion from $50.18 billion a year earlier. Net loss attributable to Ford Motor Company was $1.33 billion, or $0.33 per share, compared with a net loss of $36 million, or $0.01 per share, in the prior-year quarter.
Operating income improved to $638 million from $511 million, while the company reported a pre-tax loss of $2.03 billion, compared with pre-tax income of $541 million a year earlier.
Ford raised its full-year 2026 adjusted EBIT outlook to $10.0 billion-$11.0 billion, up from the previous range of $8.5 billion-$10.5 billion.
F is currently trading at $15.91 up $0.95 or 6.35 percent on the New York Stock Exchange.
