Ford Motor Company develops, delivers, and services a range of Ford trucks, commercial cars and vans, sport utility vehicles, and Lincoln luxury vehicles worldwide. It operates through Ford Blue, Ford Model e, and Ford Pro; Ford Next; and Ford Credit segments. The company sells Ford and Lincoln vehicles, service parts, and accessories through distributors and dealers, as well as through dealerships to commercial fleet customers, daily rental car companies, and governments. It also engages in vehicle-related financing and leasing activities to and through automotive dealers. In addition, the company provides retail installment sale contracts for new and used vehicles; and direct financing leases for new vehicles to retail and commercial customers, such as leasing companies, government entities, daily rental companies, and fleet customers. Further, it offers wholesale loans to dealers to finance the purchase of vehicle inventory; and loans to dealers to finance working capital and enhance dealership facilities, purchase dealership real estate, and other dealer vehicle programs. The company was incorporated in 1903 and is based in Dearborn, Michigan.

This week also brings us important mainstays on the earnings front such as Procter & Gamble PG, Starbucks SBUX and Visa V tomorrow, Ford F and Qualcomm QCOM Wednesday and ExxonMobil XOM Friday morning. In all, 164 companies of the S&P 500 will have posted earnings results by Friday, August 1st.
Fed Unlikely to Lower Rates on Wednesday
Despite President Trump’s long and very visible campaign to change Fed Chair Jerome Powell’s mind about the ongoing Fed funds rate — it’s been at +4.25-4.50% since December of last year, meaning for the entirely of Trump’s second term so far — due to a relative equilibrium having been reached in the Fed’s dual mandate. An Unemployment Rate of +4.1% and an Inflation Rate at +2.7% (up from +2.3% reached a couple months ago) demonstrate current rates are having their desired effect.
That said, Fed Governors Chris Waller and Miki Bowman are likely to file the first dissents in some time from the ongoing narrative about interest rates at the conclusion of the upcoming FOMC meeting Wednesday afternoon. There’s only a 2% chance the Fed has enough votes to cut to outstrip Powell’s opinion to keep interest rates where they are. After an August break, September’s odds go up to +67% for a 25 basis-point (bps) cut.
This is expected to once again raise Trump’s hackles, although perhaps his early-week successes — a trade deal with the EU and ongoing negotiations with China in Stockholm, Sweden — will soothe the president somewhat. Any big, unexpected changes to PCE or the labor market this week — say a sub-100K read on monthly employment, a negative Q2 GDP or a near-+3% year over year PCE — will happen too late for the Fed to pivot on its final decision on rates this summer.
Labor Market Solid… but Weakening?
We don’t see it in continually shrinking Initial Jobless Claims per week (back down to 217K last Thursday), but this week’s jobs figures ought to help answer several questions raised in last week’s Jobs Week reports: ADP private sector payrolls posted a negative -33K jobs filled in June, the first negative print in more than two years.
And, while that Friday’s subsequent BLS report came in at +147K, more than half of those new jobs came from State & Local Government. What that means is that only around 70K new jobs were filled in June outside government hires; 70K isn’t enough to cover the monthly deluge of retiring Baby Boomers and older GenX. So another leg down here — as well as a Continuing Jobless Claims tally closing in on 2 million per week — would change the narrative of the U.S. having a strong labor market, thereby reviving the idea that the Fed needs to cut rates.

We tiptoe into one of the busiest weeks of the year — not only because Q2 earnings season shifts into a higher gear, but because this is the week that gives us a new Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting and Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) report (PCE is the Fed’s preferred gauge on inflation). It’s also Jobs Week, because June JOLTS, ADP ADP private-sector payrolls for July, Weekly Jobless Claims and the always-important Employment Situation report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

Big Week for Jobs, Earnings and the Fed

Key Points
For a second straight quarter, Tesla posted weak auto deliveries and revenue.
The company once again hyped its robotaxi and robot ambitions.
The stock is largely valued based on future bets paying off, making it risky to own.
Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) has long been a stock that's traded more on the vision of its founder Elon Musk than on its actual fundamentals. However, with the stock sinking following Tesla's lackluster second-quarter earnings report -- despite more big promises around robotaxis and robots -- reality might finally be catching up to it.
Musk has done a lot of brand damage to Tesla over the past six months or so. His funding of President Donald Trump's campaign and overseeing the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) angered many liberal-leaning consumers. He then later got in a very public feud with the President he helped get elected, alienating himself and Tesla from many conservatives, as well.

The fallout could be seen in Tesla's Q2 numbers, while tariffs also stung the company. Meanwhile, it will soon see an even potentially bigger headwind due to the expiration of the U.S. electric vehicle (EV) credit by the end of third-quarter 2025.
Its core auto business is struggling
For the second straight quarter, Tesla saw big declines in its core auto business. After a 13% drop in deliveries in the first quarter, deliveries fell by the same amount in Q2. Model 3 and Model Y deliveries decreased by 12%, while other models plunged by 52%.
Tesla's auto revenue plunged 16% to $16.7 billion in the quarter. Within its auto revenue, its regulatory credits, which are pure gross margin, fell by more than half to $429 million. Not surprisingly, this affected Tesla's profitability in the quarter.
Even worse for the company is that many of these regulatory credits will soon be going away. Trump's "Big Beautiful Bill" will eliminate the current federal $7,500 EV tax credit at the end of September. As a result, Musk admitted that the company could be in for a "few rough quarters" ahead.
Overall, Tesla's revenue fell 12% to $22.5 billion. Its energy generation and storage revenue dropped 7% to $2.8 billion, while its service revenue climbed 17% to nearly $3.1 billion. Adjusted earnings per share sank 23% to $0.40, while its adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) declined by 7% to $3.4 billion.
Tesla's cash flow is also starting to take a hit. Its operating cash flow sank 30% to $2.5 billion, while its free cash flow cratered by 89% to $146 million.
More big promises
Given Tesla's poor operating results, it was not surprising that Musk and the rest of management directed the conversation toward Tesla's big bets on autonomous driving and robotics. Musk claimed that Tesla will expand its autonomous ride-hailing service to cover half of the U.S. population by the end of this year, pending regulatory approval.
Now, of course, such a statement makes little sense. The company is currently only testing a small geofenced area in Austin, Texas, with safety drivers, and it has already had a number of safety issues in this small pilot. Its technology appears nowhere close to ready to be adopted in cities countrywide.
But let's say, for argument's sake, that the technology and regulatory approvals work out. The company would then need hundreds of thousands of Level 4 autonomous driving vehicles on the road (not its current Level 2 vehicles). Beyond that, it would also need service and cleaning centers, as well as charging infrastructure in place to handle a fleet of that size. It would also need to have a consumer-facing platform that can handle things like pre-trip pricing, dynamic fare calculations, disputes, and refunds. There is no evidence that Tesla has any of this in place.
Meanwhile, Musk continued to sing the praises of his Optimus robot, saying it will be Tesla's biggest product ever. He said Optimus 3 has an "exquisite" design with no significant flaws. He's looking to have a prototype of the new robot by the end of this year and then scale production next year. He then wants to be able to produce 1 million Optimus robots a year within five years.
Once again, this seems ambitious. Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) is currently an AI robotics leader, and companies like Boston Dynamics have showcased robots with advanced mobility, so robots can be hugely useful. However, all Tesla has ever demonstrated is a humanoid robot that could only do carefully choreographed tasks. Today, most factory automation is done by specialized, fixed-purpose robots. The use case for a humanoid robot is still very questionable.
Should investors buy the dip?
Even after the stock pullback, Tesla's stock trades at a forward price-to-earnings ratio (P/E) of over 170x based on 2025 analyst estimates, while its profitable auto peers -- like Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis -- generally have multiples of 10 or less.
With its core auto business struggling, this indicates that the bulk of Tesla's market cap is predicated on ambitions that may or may not pan out. Given the company's track record of overpromising and under-delivering, this is not a bet I'd make.

The current level reflects an upward revision of 9.7% in the consensus EPS estimate for the quarter over the past 30 days. This demonstrates how the analysts covering the stock have collectively reappraised their initial projections over this period.
Before a company announces its earnings, it is essential to take into account any changes made to earnings estimates. This is a valuable factor in predicting the potential reactions of investors toward the stock. Insights Into Ford Motor (F) Q2: Wall Street Projections for Key Metrics

The automotive industry has been reeling for months following the Trump administration's announced tariffs, which have threatened to increase costs, likely leading to higher prices for consumers.
Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) approached the situation aggressively, marketing to its American roots and offering vehicle buyers employee-level pricing for a three-month period. It worked. Ford recently announced fantastic second-quarter vehicle sales, including an estimated 1.8-percentage-point gain in market share. Now, the company has followed it up with a new promotion aimed at lowering up-front costs for buyers.

With Ford building sales momentum, it's fair to ask where the stock might be in three years. I dove into the numbers to find out. Here is what you need to know.
Combating tariff headwinds with volume
Despite Ford's standing as a leading American vehicle brand, it is a global business, both in supply chain and in sales. The tricky part is figuring out just how tariffs will affect the company, which is remarkably difficult due to the Trump Administration's inconsistent messaging on policy.
As of first-quarter earnings, management was anticipating a net headwind of $1.5 billion to Ford's 2025 earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT). It appears that part of Ford's strategy has been to lean into the tariff headwinds as an opportunity to leverage its American identity with U.S. consumers. Ford extended employee-level pricing to buyers as part of its "From America, For America" campaign.
The promotion, which ran from early April to early July, was a winner. Ford's vehicle sales skyrocketed by 14.2% in Q2 2025, including:
The highest Q2 sales for F-Series trucks since 2019.
Record sales for electric vehicles.
The highest volume for the Lincoln brand since 2007.
20% growth in paid subscriptions for Ford Pro software.
Automotive manufacturers have high fixed costs associated with operating factories. Investors will need to see management's updated financial outlook when Ford releases its full Q2 earnings on July 30. Still, it would prove a savvy move by Ford if the company could grow its sales volume enough to offset tariff-related costs, while boosting market share and giving the Ford brand some momentum in the process.
Ford's fundamentals remain resilient
Tariffs, in some shape or form, are looming. Analysts have already baked a sizable hit to earnings into Ford's 2025 estimates. The consensus on Wall Street is that earnings will drop from $1.84 per share last year to an estimated $1.12 this year.
Beyond the effect on earnings, the important takeaway is that Ford can remain profitable. While investors must read between the lines until Ford releases its Q2 earnings, management probably wouldn't follow its Q2 promotion with another campaign if the company were losing more money selling all those additional vehicles.
The dividend, yielding over 5.3%, is still just 54% of 2025 earnings estimates, and management reiterated Ford's balance sheet strength in Q1, which ended with $27 billion in cash and $45 billion in total liquidity. Ford should have ample financial resources to weather the tariff uncertainty, and its decision to pursue market share in this situation underscores that confidence.
Where might the stock be in three years?
It's worth noting that the auto industry is highly competitive, and companies must continually invest in updating, maintaining, and upgrading expensive factories. Ford is a significant industry player, yet its stock has still badly lagged the broader stock market over time.
Therefore, even if Ford successfully navigates the tariff headwinds, it's not guaranteed to yield great investment results. Currently, Ford's free cash flow yield is 20%, on par with its average over the past decade.
It's tough to envision the stock fetching a higher valuation while tariffs continue to weigh on the business. The hope is that Ford sells more vehicles at lower margins (due to tariffs) to the point that free cash flow grows. Upcoming Q2 earnings will give investors a fresh set of expectations regarding how tariffs will affect Ford's profits. Keep in mind that Ford's current valuation reflects pre-tariff cash flows.
I suspect that Ford will be working back to 2024 profits over the next few years. When it all shakes out, much of the tariff-related costs and higher sales volume could somewhat offset each other. In that scenario, the stock price may not change much. Ford's 5.3% dividend could represent a significant portion of the stock's investment returns.
So, for now, it appears that Ford stock has limited upside over the next three years. Of course, that could change as the tariff situation evolves.

Ford Motor (NYSE:F) is set to report its earnings on Wednesday, July 30, 2025. Consensus projects earnings of about $0.33 per share, down from $0.47 per share in the year-ago quarter, while revenues are likely to come in at about $43.93 billion, down 2% compared to the last year. Ford has already reported its vehicle delivery numbers for the U.S. for Q2, with sales rising 14.2% year-over-year to 612,095 units. Growth was driven primarily by strong demand for pickups such as the F-Series, Ranger, and Maverick, which collectively saw a 15% increase. F-Series sales rose 11.5% to 222,459 units – marking the best Q2 since 2019. A higher mix of pickup sales, which are much more profitable than sedans, could help support Ford’s margins.
The new tariffs on autos and components imposed by the Trump Administration may weigh on costs and profitability over the quarter. For perspective, Ford’s peer GM took a $1.1 billion hit to its Q2 earnings due to the tariffs. That said, Ford may be better positioned than most rivals, with an estimated 80% of its U.S. sales in 2024 coming from domestically assembled vehicles.
The company has $44 billion in current market capitalization. Revenue over the last twelve months was $183 billion, and it was operationally profitable, with $4.3 billion in operating profits and net income of $5.0 billion.
