According to reports, Rambourg now believes Estée Lauder is positioned to essentially double its earnings between its fiscal years 2025 and 2027. This will derive from active cost cutting and reorganization measures, although he's anticipating improvements on the top line too.
The HSBC pundit isn't the only market professional becoming notably more bullish on the cosmetics sector mainstay. On Thursday, Evercore ISI's Robbert Ottenstein lifted his price target to $100 per share from $90 while maintaining an outperform (buy, in other words) rating. And on Monday, Deutsche Bank's Steve Powers upgraded the stock from hold to buy.
Good reasons for optimism
While Estée Lauder isn't the cheapest stock to buy, at least on the basis of its valuations, the company has shown recent signs of improvement. In Powers' analysis, he cited management's success in boosting its business in China, a key overseas market, and the effectiveness of its cost-reduction strategy. Estée Lauder could very well prove to be a turnaround story.

Moreover, the screen filters stocks that are relatively undervalued compared to their peers in terms of earnings as well as sales, ensuring the continuation of their rally for some time.
Current Price/52 Week High >= .8: This is the ratio between the current price and the highest price at which the stock has traded in the past 52 weeks. A value greater than 0.8 implies that the stock is trading within 20% of its 52-week high range.
% Change Price – 4 Weeks > 0: It ensures that the stock price has moved north over the past four weeks.
% Change Price – 12 Weeks > 0: This metric guarantees a continued upward price momentum for the stock over the past three months as well.
Price/Sales <= XIndMed: The lower, the better.
P/E using F(1) Estimate <= XIndMed: This metric measures the amount an investor puts into a company to obtain one dollar of earnings. It narrows down the list of stocks to those that are undervalued compared to the industry.

An analyst upgraded his recommendation on the storied cosmetics company, and investors greeted the news by boosting its share price by nearly 5%. This was more than quintuple the percentage rate gain of the S&P 500 index on the day.
Leaping from neutral to buy
The analyst doing the upgrading was Steve Powers from veteran international lender Deutsche Bank. Powers has had a change of view on Estée Lauder, as he modified his recommendation to buy from his previous hold. His price target is $95 per share, quite a change from his preceding $71 level.

The pundit's new outlook on the company hinges on its international growth strategy. According to reports, Powers believes that there is mounting evidence that management's goal of boosting overseas sales in markets besides China is working.
Meanwhile, the analyst gave Estée Lauder good marks for innovating its product lineup and wrote that its considerable investment requirements -- mainly in areas such as supply chain management -- have already been made, carving out a path for robust profitability growth.
The challenge of being an incumbent
It isn't easy to lift either sales or profitability if you're a well-established company in your field, and Estée Lauder has been struggling with this for some time. Yet I'd agree with Powers that its current management team seems to be sensible and engaged, and pulling the right levers for growth. This isn't a stock that excites me all that much, but perhaps something of a growth spurt is happening.

IBM's technologies, including the watsonx AI portfolio, will enable Deutsche Bank to deliver more personalized and seamless services to clients, from smarter customer support to tailored financial solutions. The integration of IBM’s AI capabilities is expected to not only improve operational efficiency but also enhance fraud detection, risk management and regulatory compliance, leading to substantial cost savings and revenues.
DB's Partnership With finaXai
Deutsche Bank has announced a strategic partnership with finaXai, co-founded by researchers from Nanyang Technological University and the National University of Singapore. This partnership is expected to significantly expand Project DAMA 2 — Deutsche Bank’s public-permissioned multi-chain asset servicing pilot.
Notably, Project DAMA 2 intends to transform the management and servicing of tokenized funds and their investors by leveraging digital and AI technologies.
Deutsche Bank and finaXai are set to explore the integration of technologies, including Machine Learning and Large Language Models, into asset servicing workflows. The focus will be on leveraging explainable AI to enable asset managers to execute fund lifecycle activities with enhanced speed, precision and transparency.

Wall Street Uncertainty Vanishes
Wall Street hates uncertainty, and this week, the two biggest uncertainties facing investors vanished – the trade war with China and inflationary concerns. Though much work remains between the world’s two largest economies to strike a full deal, representatives from each country confirmed that there was a lot more agreement on common ground than previously feared. Meanwhile, Tuesday morning’s inflation report came in below expectations for a third straight month. Grocery prices saw their largest decline in nearly five years, while gas prices fell for the third month in a row, debunking the claims that tariffs would cause inflation. Below are three important stocks to watch:
First Solar Explodes on Favorable Legislation
Shares of industry leader First Solar (FSLR) exploded by nearly 20% on Tuesday and are up 50% thus far in May. The stock had been rallying off lows recently, but news that solar incentives are staying around and are not included in the budget cuts sent the stock into overdrive. First Solar and other solar stocks will enjoy tax credits through at least 2028. FSLR also benefited Tuesday from two major upgrades:
Wolfe upgrading FSLR to outperform on better clarity on 45X credits. "FSLR stands to earn $10B from 45X, or ~$92/share. FSLR's domestic moat remains well intact as the only domestic solar module manufacturer of scale, and also doesn’t rely on foreign components such as cells or wafer"
Deutsche Bank (DB) commenting positive as well, naming FSLR a potential winner in their quick take on the House Draft. "[...] we believe First Solar (Buy rated) should emerge as the 'safe one' from changes, given the less impact on 45x credits, which investors had been fearing."
FSLR, which has seen shares underperform over the past six months, regained its 200-day moving average as volume swelled to five times the norm.
CoreWeave Carves Emerges from IPO U-Turn Base Structure
CoreWeave (CRWV) is turning the right side of a classic IPO u-turn base structure. Coreweave is a cloud computing company that provides massive amounts of processing power for large-scale computing and AI purposes. Shares gained nearly 10% and are within shouting distance of the all-time high achieved earlier this year ahead of earnings. The more I look at this stock, the more it reminds me of when Alphabet (GOOGL), then Google, broke out of a u-turn IPO base, sending the stock soaring. Like Google, CRWV is a liquid, emerging tech leader backed by institutional investors like Nvidia (NVDA). Obviously, CRWV will need to crush earnings when they report tomorrow to continue its massive move, but the price action is promising.

OKLO Jumps on NuScale EPS
Oklo (OKLO) gained more than 10% as volume swelled to double the 50-day average after fellow nuclear “small modular reactor” company NuScale Power (SMR) delivered better-than-expected results. OKLO will report earnings after the close today. Meanwhile, NuScale is the only SMR company to receive approval from the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission. That said, as the AI race heats up, the Trump administration is likely to fast-track further approvals as fast as possible and remove red tape, especially because former OKLO board member Chris Wright is the newest US Secretary of Energy.

Stocks on the Move: FSLR, CRWV, OKLO

It's been a wild year for the benchmark S&P 500 (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC). The index started the year on a high note and then got crushed, mainly due to concerns about U.S. President Donald Trump's tariffs. The index fell nearly 20% from highs seen in late February, but then battled back once Trump announced a 90-day pause on implementing the higher tariffs. It has since recouped most of its losses.
The S&P 500 was only down about 4% (as of May 8), which isn't so bad, all things considered, although it could also suggest that the market isn't fully reflecting potential struggles ahead. That said, difficulties in one market open opportunities in others. Two major European bank stocks have thumped the S&P 500 this year, and they still trade relatively inexpensively.

1. Barclays -- up 23% this year
Shares of the large British bank Barclays (NYSE: BCS) have risen nearly 23% this year. During the past year, Barclays is up 54%. European banks have not fared well since the Great Recession, especially compared to their U.S. counterparts. They have struggled due to a combination of extremely low interest rates, weak gross domestic product (GDP) growth, and heightened regulation. Interest rates in Europe were negative for a number of years, making it very difficult to profit under the traditional bank model, which involves borrowing money at low short-term rates and lending it out at higher longer-term rates.
Banks are largely seen as a reflection of the economies in which they operate. With the U.S. seemingly shutting its doors to many of its trading partners, many expect Europe will invest more in its own economy, which could lead to faster GDP growth. The Eurozone only saw GDP grow by about 0.9% in 2024. In 2025, economists at S&P Global expect to see a similar year of 0.9% growth before GDP increases to 1.4% in 2026. Although not exactly spectacular, it is an improvement, and investors may have more confidence due to potential increased military spending in Europe.
The other thing to consider is that Barclays and several other E.U. banks have improved returns for several years now, although they've largely been ignored due to U.S. exceptionalism and the economic struggles mentioned above. In the first quarter of 2025, Barclays generated a 14% return on tangible equity (ROTE), up from 12.3% one year prior.
The increase can be attributed to outperformance in investment banking and Barclays' private bank and wealth management division. Intense volatility in the markets can juice profits at bank trading desks. However, Barclays' U.S. consumer bank also underperformed management's expectations in Q1.
Ultimately, management thinks the company can generate an 11% ROTE in 2025. Capital levels are also elevated, setting the stage for capital distributions, including share repurchases. Barclays also currently has a nice dividend yield of roughly 2.7%. While it doesn't always work out, banks that consistently generate a 10% ROTE typically receive a valuation of 100% of tangible book value (TBV), where the stock's market capitalization equals tangible shareholders equity. Barclays stock still trades well below TBV per share, leaving plenty of long-term upside if management can continue to execute.

2. Deutsche Bank -- up 56% this year
Not only has Deutsche Bank (NYSE: DB) been dealing with economic challenges similar to Barclays', it's been dealing with numerous regulatory issues related to anti-money-laundering (AML) infractions.
The bank has paid hundreds of millions in fines associated with these charges and for not correcting its AML infrastructure quickly enough. As recently as 2023, Deutsche Bank paid $186 million in fines. But Germany's largest bank has made some progress in this department as well. At the end of last year, the German regulator BaFin recalled one of its special monitors that had been placed at the bank to ensure compliance with AML remedies.
While regulatory work remains, Deutsche Bank has made strong financial progress. Management has lowered costs and reduced risk-weighted assets such as loans in order to become more capital-efficient. Revenue has also increased at a compound annual growth rate of 6.1% since 2021, which is within management's targets. Additionally, Deutsche Bank delivered an 11.9% ROTE in the first quarter of 2025, which is up from 7.4% in Q1 2024.
Although the bank seems to be benefitting now from a strong performance in investment banking, a division that can experience rapid swings in revenue and profitability, management is still confident in its ability to surpass a 10% ROTE in 2025.
Capital levels at the bank are high. Management has also proposed spending 750 million euros ($842 million) on share repurchases, which, coupled with the dividend, brought total distributions to 2.1 billion euros in the quarter. Management thinks it can outperform the annual 8-billion-euro distribution target. Deutsche Bank is another stock trading at pennies on the dollar. That also makes stock repurchases very accretive to increasing the bank's TBV, which should help the stock over time.

2 Major European Bank Stocks Have Thumped the S&P 500 Index This Year. They Still Trade at Less Than 65 Cents on the Dollar

Deerfield, Illinois-based Walgreens Boots Alliance, Inc. (WBA), is an integrated healthcare, pharmacy, and retail company. With a market cap of $9.5 billion, Walgreens operates through the U.S. Retail Pharmacy, International, and U.S. Healthcare segments.
The pharmaceutical retailer has significantly underperformed the broader market over the past year, but outperformed in 2025. WBA’s stock prices have tanked 37.4% over the past 52 weeks and surged 17.7% on a YTD basis, compared to the S&P 500 Index’s ($SPX) 12.3% gains over the past year and 3.3% decline on a YTD basis.

Narrowing the focus, WBA has underperformed the industry-focused iShares U.S. Pharmaceuticals ETF’s (IHE) 3% rally over the past 52 weeks, while outperforming IHE’s 1.6% gains on a YTD basis.
WBA stock declined 1.1% following the release of its Q2 earnings on Apr. 8. The company reported a 4.1% year-over-year growth in its sales, which amounted to $38.6 billion and topped Street forecasts. However, the company’s adjusted gross profit observed a 1.5% year-over-year decline to approximately $7 billion. WBA’s adjusted operating income also suffered a 12.8% decrease to $785 million. Moreover, its adjusted EPS dropped 47.5% year-over-year to $0.63. Nonetheless, following the initial downturn, WBA stock rebounded 1.8% in the following trading session.
For the current fiscal year 2025, ending in August, analysts expect WBA to report a 42.4% year-over-year decline in adjusted earnings to $1.66 per share. The company has a mixed earnings surprise history. It has surpassed the Street’s bottom-line estimates thrice over the past four quarters, while missing on one other occasion. Its adjusted EPS of $0.63 for the last reported quarter surpassed the consensus estimates by an impressive 18.9%.
WBA holds a consensus “Hold” rating overall. Of the 14 analysts covering the stock, opinions include one “Strong Buy,” 11 “Holds,” one “Moderate Sell,” and one “Strong Sell.”
This configuration is slightly bearish compared to three months ago, when two analysts gave "Strong Buy" recommendations.
On Feb. 28, Deutsche Bank (DB) analyst George Hill downgraded the stock to a “Sell” rating.
WBA’s mean price target of $11.15 indicates a modest 1.5% premium to current price levels, while its Street-high target of $15 suggests a staggering 36.6% upside potential.

Are Wall Street Analysts Bullish on Walgreens Boots Stock?

With many analysts turning bullish on European equities, it's noteworthy that Deutsche Bank DB stock was recently added to the Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy) list.
Landing the Bull of the Day, Deutsche Bank’s Zacks Banks-Foreign Industry is currently in the top 4% of over 240 Zacks industries. For those who haven’t noticed, Deutsche Bank’s American Depositary Receipt (ADR) has been one of the top performers this year, soaring over +50% in 2025 while the broader indexes work out of correction territory in regard to U.S. markets.
Trading at 52-week highs of $26 a share, there could still be more upside for Deutsche Bank stock based on a pleasant trend of earnings estimate revisions.

High Sentiment for European Equities
With sentiment improving regarding concerns over tariffs and economic uncertainty, European markets have been resilient. Goldman Sachs GS, for instance, sees strong corporate earnings in Europe and higher defense spending as a major catalyst. This comes as there has reportedly been a record rotation of global investors shifting away from U.S. equities and increasing their European stock holdings.
Notably, Deutsche Bank analysts have shifted to a positive outlook on other European stocks, based on improved market conditions and reduced geopolitical tensions. Despite the European Union (EU) not being immune to higher tariffs from Washington, many pundits have pointed out that their biggest trade partners are still each other.
Deutsche Bank’s Outlook
As one of the world’s largest financial institutions, Deutsche Bank’s steady expansion has kept investors engaged. Being the largest bank in Germany, Deutsche Bank’s total sales are expected to be up 7% in fiscal 2025 and are projected to increase another 2% in FY26 to $35.39 billion.
More intriguing and relating to Goldman Sachs' bullish commentary on European equities is that Deutsche Bank’s annual earnings are currently slated to soar 116% this year to $3.20 per share, compared to EPS of $1.48 in 2024. Plus, FY26 EPS is projected to rise another 11%.

Positive EPS Revisions
Extending Deutsche Bank’s rally has been rising earnings estimate revisions. As shown below, FY25 EPS estimates (F1) have risen 9% over the last 60 days and are now up 23% from a year ago. Even better, FY26 EPS estimates (F2) have popped 14% in the last two months and have increased 26% over the last year.

Conclusion & Final Thoughts
Deutsche Bank’s selection as the Bull of the Day is not to say that investors should shift away from U.S. equities, but it wouldn’t be surprising if the rally in DB continued with shares still trading at 8X forward earnings and less than 1X sales.
Furthermore, diversification is an effective hedge against economic uncertainty, and Deutsche Bank is worthy of consideration outside of the renowned U.S. banks that typically catch investors' attention.
