New nuclear reactors are coming online at a rapid rate
In the mid-2000s, nuclear energy was enjoying a resurgence. However, economic shifts, project delays, and the 2011 Fukushima disaster derailed this momentum and delivered a final blow to the industry for a decade.
However, things have shifted recently. At COP28 in 2023, over 20 nations, including the U.S., U.K., Japan, Canada, South Korea, and France, pledged to triple global nuclear energy capacity by 2050. The driving force behind this pledge was net-zero carbon-emission goals, which would be nearly impossible without nuclear energy.
China is leading the charge, with 38 commercial reactors under construction. The country aims to approve 10 to 15 gigawatts (GW) of new capacity annually and hopes to surpass the U.S. in nuclear generation by the end of the decade. In Japan, reactor restarts are working through regulatory approval. Meanwhile, in the U.S., power purchase agreements are bringing decommissioned plants, such as Three Mile Island Unit 1 and Palisades, back online.
In addition, President Donald Trump's administration wants to quadruple nuclear energy capacity by 2050. As part of this, policymakers want to have 10 new large-scale commercial nuclear reactors under construction by 2030. The Department of Energy is also fast-tracking testing of advanced nuclear reactors through its Reactor Pilot Program.
Uranium faces structural shortages as demand surges
Nuclear fuel procurement differs from oil and gas. Nuclear fuel accounts for no more than 10% of a plant's operating expense, so utility fuel buyers are price-insensitive and lock in long-term supplies. After Fukushima, utilities could secure cheap secondary supplies and rely on the spot market for uranium. However, buyers are now looking to secure fuel commitments for the next decade.
Uranium markets are reaching an inflection point. Inventories have dwindled, so buyers must rely on the primary mine supply. The market is facing bottlenecks. For example, in Kazakhstan, which accounts for 40% of global output, in situ recovery (ISR) mining operations have been hampered by shortages of sulfuric acid.
On top of that, energy demand is booming. Rising artificial intelligence (AI) workloads and growing data center infrastructure are driving incredibly strong demand for power. Total data center power consumption is projected to double by 2030, while total U.S. electricity demand is estimated to expand 25% by 2030.
Technology companies are making deals left and right to secure energy. Constellation Energy (NASDAQ: CEG), which owns and operates the largest nuclear energy fleet in the U.S., has signed long-term power purchase agreements with Alphabet, Amazon, Microsoft, and Walmart.
As part of this, Constellation, Vistra, and other power providers are using power uprates to extend the life of their nuclear plants and bring decommissioned plants back online.
What's next for uranium prices
Uranium prices are around $90 per pound, but supplies are likely to remain tight over the next decade. Utilities face a widening uncommitted supply gap, with cumulative uncommitted uranium requirements estimated to exceed 800 million pounds of triuranium octoxide, also called yellowcake, through 2035.
Spot uranium prices will likely remain elevated around $100 per pound for the next few years, as demand surges amid the deficit, with some experts arguing this is necessary to justify the investments needed to finance the next generation of underground and open-pit mines. Bank of America projects uranium could jump to $130 per pound by next year, a nearly 44% increase over today's spot price.
Global energy demand is growing, and nuclear energy is poised to play a crucial role in filling those gaps, benefiting uranium miners. Cameco uses long-term contracts and has agreements to deliver 28 million pounds of yellowcake annually over the next five years. Meanwhile, Uranium Energy is completely unhedged, giving investors exposure to rising spot prices but also adding volatility if spot prices decline meaningfully.

The case for Bloom Energy
Bloom Energy manufactures solid oxide fuel cell systems that generate electricity and hydrogen on-site without traditional combustion. Major commercial agreements include a strategic partnership with American Electric Power (NASDAQ:AEP) and a multi-billion dollar financing framework with Brookfield Corp. (NYSE:BN) to support large-scale energy projects.
In FY 2025, revenue reached about $2 billion, which represents a significant 37% increase compared to the previous year. Despite this rapid top-line expansion, the company reported a net loss of approximately $88.4 million for the same fiscal period. This result reflects a substantial improvement over the $302 million net loss from FY 2023 as the company scales manufacturing to meet rising demand.
As of its December 2025 balance sheet, the company carries a debt-to-equity ratio of around 3.9x. This ratio compares total debt to shareholder equity, and a higher number indicates that a business relies more heavily on borrowed funds than on internal capital. Its current ratio is roughly 6.0x, while free cash flow reached about $57.2 million, which is calculated as operating cash flow minus capital expenditures.
The case for Constellation Energy
Constellation Energy operates as a massive power producer and retail energy supplier with a total capacity of approximately 55 gigawatts. The company recently finalized a landmark 20-year agreement with Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:MSFT) to support a significant nuclear reactor restart, highlighting its role in providing reliable energy to large technology firms. It serves roughly 2.5 million customer accounts, including three-fourths of the Fortune 100 and a large base of residential users.
In its latest annual report, filed for FY 2025, revenue reached approximately $25.5 billion. This figure represents growth of more than 8% over the prior year. Net income reached about $2.3 billion, which translates to a net margin of roughly 9%. This net margin reflects the portion of total revenue that remains as profit after the company pays all of its operating and financial costs.
As of its December 2025 balance sheet, the company carries a debt-to-equity ratio of approximately 0.6x. This lower ratio suggests a more conservative capital structure than many of its peers in the utility sector. Its current ratio is roughly 1.5x, and free cash flow for the year was about $1.3 billion, which is calculated as cash flow from operations minus capital expenditures.
Risk profile comparison
Bloom Energy faces competition from traditional utilities and other fuel cell manufacturers. The business relies on government incentives like the federal Investment Tax Credit, meaning political shifts could hurt its long-term outlook. It also manages supply chain vulnerabilities for critical components and is involved in legal proceedings regarding its reliance on materials sourced from abroad.
Constellation Energy is exposed to fluctuations in commodity prices for its unhedged power generation and competition from other providers like NextEra Energy (NYSE:NEE). Which stock would I buy in 2026?
Bloom is growing fast and is an exciting business, given the increasing demand for local power sources coming from the AI data center explosion. Transmission capacity deficits and extended lead times for needed electrical infrastructure mean utility interconnection times are now between four and seven years for hyperscalers' new data centers. Bloom is successfully positioning its solid oxide fuel cell technology as an alternative that can be quickly put in place to be used as a bridge or as a permanent source of onsite power generation.
Bloom Energy's core product is its Energy Server, a stand-alone power source for commercial and industrial customers. The Energy Server is based on solid oxide fuel cell technology and runs on natural gas, biogas, or hydrogen.
The business aims to reduce its production costs by about 10% per year to attract more customers (its main markets are the U.S. and Korea). The AI data center boom is a tailwind for Bloom, which should see revenue leap 85% to $4.1 billion in fiscal 2026. That has Wall Street expecting a swing to net income of about $658 million.
Interest in nuclear power equities initially surged at the decade's start as a key component of decarbonization strategies. More recently, however, the massive electricity requirements of artificial intelligence have rapidly accelerated growth across the sector. As America's leading operator of nuclear facilities--alongside its wind, solar, and hydroelectric assets--Constellation Energy is uniquely positioned to capitalize on this surge in power consumption, evidenced by a 2025 20-year agreement with Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META). Surging load requirements, combined with state-level regulations phasing out coal generation, are driving momentum to reactivate retired reactors and construct new facilities nationwide.
That has the once-stodgy utility provider looking at a big jump in revenue this fiscal year, to $26.1 billion from $25.5 billion. Net income will come close to doubling, to around $4.5 billion this year as well.
Growth like Constellation's is hard to overlook. Bloom's history as a boom-and-bust stock should bring some caution too. Constellation's much more reasonable P/E and P/S ratios make it the pick for long-term investors seeking an energy play on AI-driven demand.

According to data compiled by Bloomberg Intelligence, Q3 S&P 500 profits are expected to climb by +25% from a year earlier, up from a July estimate of 22%. Q3 earnings season begins next week when US money center banks report.
Weakness in chipmakers and AI stocks on Tuesday limited broader market gains. Also, hawkish comments on Tuesday from San Francisco Fed President Mary Daly weighed on stocks when she said she's concerned that AI spending, tariffs, and energy costs could keep inflation elevated longer, requiring more Fed tightening.
Tuesday’s US economic news was bearish for stocks after the Aug trade deficit increased to a 17-month high of -$105.6 billion, wider than expectations of -$102.1 billion and a negative factor for Q3 GDP.
Nov WTI crude oil prices (CLX26) settled little changed on Tuesday. Prices initially tumbled to a 1-month low Tuesday, on signs that more oil supplies are coming out of the Middle East. Kuwait said it is pumping about 75% of the level seen before the Iran war, and Iraq is seeking to hire additional vessels to send its oil cargoes through the Strait of Hormuz. Crude prices were also pressured on Tuesday after Yemeni government forces backed by Saudi Arabia said they retook the port city of Mokha and other areas near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait from Houthi militants.
However, short covering emerged, and crude prices finished little changed Tuesday on signs that Iran is ramping up attacks on tankers attempting to transit the Strait of Hormuz. The UK’s Maritime Trade Operations reported on Tuesday that the pace of attacks by Iran has increased in recent days, with nine vessels targeted over the last several days.
Markets are discounting a 19% chance of a +25 bp Fed rate hike at the next FOMC meeting on October 27-28.
Overseas stock markets settled higher on Tuesday. The Euro Stoxx 50 closed up +0.48%. China's Shanghai Composite did not trade, with markets in China closed for the week-long Golden Week holidays. Japan's Nikkei-225 Stock Average soared to a 3-month high and closed up +1.05%.
Interest Rates
December 10-year T-notes (ZNZ6) closed up +9 ticks on Tuesday. The 10-year T-note yield fell down -3.8 bp to 5.267%. T-notes finished higher on Tuesday and found early support from the decline in WTI crude oil prices to a 1-month low. Also, decent demand for the Treasury’s $58 billion auction of 3-year T-notes was supportive for prices after the auction produced a bid-to-cover ratio of 2.62, close to the 10-auction average of 2.64.
However, Tuesday’s rally in the S&P 500 curbed safe haven demand for T-notes. Also, hawkish comments from San Francisco Fed President Mary Daly limited gains in T-notes when she said inflation may last longer than expected, requiring additional Fed rate hikes.
European government bond yields moved lower on Tuesday. The 10-year German bund yield fell -1.5 bp to 3.478%. The 10-year UK gilt yield fell -4.3 bp to 5.375%.
Eurozone Aug retail sales rose +0.1% m/m, weaker than expectations of +0.2% m/m.
German Aug factory orders fell -10.6% m/m, weaker than expectations of -1.0% m/m and the biggest decline in 7 months.
French Finance Minister Lescure said circumstances in France are very different from a decade earlier during the debt crisis and the country is far from needing help from the ECB.
Markets are discounting a 14% chance of a +25 bp ECB rate hike at the ECB’s next meeting on October 29.
US Stock Movers
Most Magnificent Seven technology stocks finished higher on Tuesday, a positive factor for the overall market. Amazon.com (AMZN) closed up more than +1%, and Microsoft (MSFT) closed up +0.85%. Also, Tesla (TSLA) closed up +0.47%, Alphabet (GOOGL) closed up +0.34%, Apple (AAPL) closed up +0.22%, and Nvidia (NVDA) closed up +0.15%. Conversely, Meta Platforms (META) closed down -0.34%.
Strength in cybersecurity stocks rallied on Tuesday. Zscaler (ZS) closed up more than +5%, and Palo Alto Networks (PANW) and Fortinet (FTNT) closed up more than +3%. Also, Crowdstrike Holdings (CRWD) and Gen Digital (GEN) closed up more than +2%, and SentinelOne (S) closed up more than +1%.
Airlines and cruise line operators found support on Tuesday from the decline in WTI crude oil to a 1-month low, which lowers fuel costs and boosts the profitability prospects of the companies. Royal Caribbean Cruises (RCL) closed up more than +5% and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH) closed up more than +4%. Also, Carnival (CCL) closed up more than +3%, and United Airlines Holdings (UAL), American Airlines Group (AAL), Alaska Air Group (ALK) and Southwest Airlines (LUV) closed up more than +1%.
Weakness in chipmakers and AI stocks on Tuesday limited gains in the broader market. Seagate Technology Holdings Plc (STX) closed down more than -9% to lead losers in the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq 100. Also, Western Digital (WDC) closed down more than -6% and KLA Corp (KLAC) closed down more than -4%. In addition, Lam Research (LRCX) and Intel (INTC) closed down more than -3%, and Sandisk (SNDK) and Applied Materials (AMAT) closed down more than -2%.
Option Care Health (OPCH) closed up more than +32% after McKesson and Clayton Dubilier & Rice agreed to acquire the company for $5.8 billion, including debt.
Constellation Energy (CEG) closed up more than +12% to lead gainers in the Nasdaq 100 after announcing a long-term deal with Google to bring 890 MW of new nuclear capacity over 20 years onto the PJM grid in Illinois, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.
Apogee Enterprises (APOG) closed up more than +11% after boosting its 2027 adjusted EPS estimate to $3.00 to $3.40 from a prior view of $2.70 to $3.25, well above the consensus of $2.92.
Lam Weston Holdings (LW) closed up more than +7% after boosting its 2027 adjusted EPS forecast to $3.05 to $3.35 from a previous estimate of $2.95 to $3.25, stronger than the consensus of $3.02.
Marvell Technology (MRVL) closed up more than +5% after saying at an investor day conference that it sees $20 billion in total revenue for fiscal 2028.
Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) closed up more than +2% after CEO Lisa Su predicted “very high” chip demand continuing for the next few years.
Vaxcyte (PCVX) closed down more than -9% after announcing that it will offer $500 million worth of shares and pre-funded warrants.
Gentex (GNTX) closed down more than -1% after Goldman Sachs downgraded the stock to sell from neutral with a price target of $20.

Alphabet to help upgrade Constellation's nuclear power units
Today, Alphabet and Constellation signed a comprehensive power purchase agreement that will enable Constellation to supply additional nuclear power to the PJM electricity grid, which stretches from the mid-Atlantic region to Illinois, and fuel Alphabet's fast-growing AI data center footprint in those areas.
There are multiple parts to the deal. First, Alphabet signed a 20-year, 890-megawatt (MW) power purchase agreement with Constellation, which will enable Constellation to invest an additional $4.3 billion to boost capacity from its nuclear units in Illinois, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.
On top of that, Alphabet signed a 15-year, 2,700-MW PPA with Constellation for additional power from the PJM grid, extending the useful life of existing power assets. Constellation also signed a five-year deal with Google Cloud, under which Constellation will use Gemini Enterprise, Alphabet's enterprise AI offering, to enable lower-cost, efficient power production across its footprint.
Constellation CEO Joe Dominguez noted in the press release:
This long-term clean energy collaboration with Google can serve as a model for how technology companies and the energy industry can work together to responsibly develop the digital economy and invest in our nation's energy infrastructure in a way that delivers gridwide benefits for all, funded by private entities.
Turning down the heat
The rapid expansion of AI data centers across the U.S. has sparked political backlash and raised concerns among some AI investors over the summer. However, it appears that at least some of those concerns, specifically about pollution and higher electricity costs for consumers, are mitigated by deals like this.
Alphabet is paying its own way in this case, relieving consumers from the burden of Constellation's expansion, and is also contributing AI tools to help lower costs and bring on more carbon-free energy to the grid.
This is perhaps part of why Berkshire Hathaway chose Alphabet as its big AI bet and participated in Alphabet's June equity offering to raise nearly $85 billion. Well-funded tech giants have the capacity to invest in AI data centers and also help mitigate the environmental and cost concerns that accompany them. So perhaps for all the focus on the newer AI labs that may go public soon, it may very well be deep-pocketed tech giants like Alphabet, which can shoulder more of the cost burden, that will thrive in the agentic AI age.

In early trading on Tuesday, shares of Constellation Energy topped the list of the day's best performing components of the Nasdaq 100 index, trading up 12.1%. Year to date, Constellation Energy has lost about 15.1% of its value.
And the worst performing Nasdaq 100 component thus far on the day is Seagate Technology Holdings, trading down 6.1%. Seagate Technology Holdings is showing a gain of 202.5% looking at the year to date performance.

All You Need to Know About Constellation Energy Corporation (CEG) Rating Upgrade to Buy

The AI industry continues to grow rapidly. Future growth, however, isn't guaranteed. That's not because the world won't need more artificial intelligence. Rather, scaling AI compute power will quickly encounter other growth constraints.
Number one is access to capital. So far, this hasn't been much of an issue. Markets have been keen to provide AI companies with plenty of fresh cash. That's good news considering AI technologies rely on data centers, which are capital-intensive. If capital grows scarce, industry growth rates will quickly come under pressure.

Scaling data center infrastructure, however, comes with its own growth constraints.
"Capital is pouring into data center development, but there are real constraints on growth," warns McKinsey & Co. "The race to scale AI has triggered one of the largest infrastructure build-outs in modern history. By our estimates, global spending on data centers could reach $7 trillion by 2030. Whether a build-out is successful depends on many nuances, including the availability of capital and energy resources."
These are the two major challenges the AI industry will have to continually overcome to grow: access to capital and access to energy.
Because energy is so critical to powering data centers -- which, in turn, are critical for enabling artificial intelligence itself -- major AI companies are making big moves to ensure they have enough energy long term. That includes negotiating directly with energy system manufacturers and utility operators.
This week, Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) announced a 20-year deal with Constellation (NASDAQ:CEG) for access to nuclear power. The agreement will direct $3 billion in investment to expand one of Constellation's existing nuclear facilities. Notably, the energy production will be delivered to the grid as usual. So Amazon's partnership will add to the region's overall energy generation capacity rather than exclusively reserving the new power production for itself.
Amazon's strategy makes a lot of sense. Investing directly in nuclear power by expanding existing facilities is cost effective. And, more power production regionally helps the company minimize price increases as a result of its rising energy needs.
Constellation, of course, will be a direct benefactor. But there's one other nuclear stock that this deal should indirectly help.

What Amazon helped prove today is that AI companies are willing to go through traditional grid operators to scale regional power production. That's good news for NuScale Power (NYSE:SMR), which aims to build small modular nuclear reactors for utility companies.

For comparison, Oklo Inc. (NYSE:OKLO) is also pursuing small modular reactors. Instead of marketing its systems to utilities, however, Oklo has opted to sell directly to AI companies. In return, it has generated an impressive customer pipeline of data center operators. Though, most of its deals are non-binding, and none of its SMR deals have yet reached commercial production.
NuScale, on the other hand, has closed two sizable deals with utility operators. The first is a relatively small system in Romania. The other -- a 6-gigawatt system in the eastern U.S. -- would be the biggest SMR facility in the world if it ever gets built.
To be clear, Amazon's deal with Constellation has no direct link to NuScale. What's encouraging, however, is another proof point that AI companies aren't necessarily looking to disintermediate utility companies. Instead, they're willing to help finance additional nuclear production to meet their needs through increased regional energy generation. That's great news for NuScale's go-to-market strategy.

Amazon Signs 20 Year Nuclear Power Deal. That's Great News for This Nuclear Stock

Alphabet's (NASDAQ: GOOG) (NASDAQ: GOOGL) Google recently struck a deal with The Southern Company's (NYSE: SO) Georgia Power to boost its capacity at two nuclear plants. Google will finance "uprates" (upgrades for a reactor's power output) at Georgia Power's Vogtle and Hatch nuclear plants to add 96 MW of new capacity to its electric grid.
Those upgrades will support the construction of new data centers, while Google's funding will shield Georgia Power's residential and industrial customers from those expenses. That's a win-win for both companies, and two other industrial stocks that could benefit from the deal are GE Vernova (NYSE: GEV) and Brookfield Renewable Corporation (NYSE: BEPC).

GE Vernova
GE Vernova, the former energy division of General Electric (NYSE: GE), was spun off as a stand-alone company in 2024. Its Power business, which accounted for 55% of its orders last year, produces gas turbines for combined-cycle plants and steam turbines for coal, gas, and nuclear plants. It also provides services for nuclear power plants. Its Electrification business, which accounted for another 33% of its orders, upgrades electrical grids. Both of these businesses have benefited from the rapid construction of power-hungry data centers.
GE Vernova, through its nuclear business and nuclear joint venture with Hitachi, has a massive presence at Georgia Power's Hatch plant. The plant's Unit 1 and Unit 2 sites both use GE's Mark I Boiling Water Reactors (BWRs), and it still relies on GE Vernova's reactor services, engineering support, and nuclear fuel advancements.
Therefore, any major upgrades at Hatch will likely rely on GE Vernova's equipment and services, thereby boosting the Power segment's orders. The plant's increased electricity transmission to the grid could also generate tailwinds for its Electrification business.
The growth of those two businesses should offset the slower growth of its Wind business, which grappled with operational, macroeconomic, and demand-related challenges in recent years. GE Vernova's backlog already grew 37% year over year to $176.3 billion in its latest quarter, and it should grow even bigger as the cloud and AI markets continue to expand.
Brookfield Renewable Corporation
Brookfield Renewable builds hydroelectric dams, wind farms, solar power plants, and other green energy projects, with a total operational capacity of 47.3 GW. On its own, Brookfield might not seem to have that much exposure to Google's deal with Georgia Power.
But three years ago, a consortium led by Brookfield Renewable (along with its institutional affiliates) and the uranium miner Cameco (NYSE: CCJ) acquired Westinghouse Electric Company, one of the world's leading nuclear technology companies. Brookfield and its affiliates took a 51% stake in the company, while Cameco controlled the remaining 49%.
Westinghouse built the pressurized water reactors (PWRs) used across all four units at Georgia Power's Vogtle plant, and it still provides the utility with specialized engineering services, regulatory compliance support, and proprietary nuclear fuel assemblies. Therefore, any major upgrades at Vogtle should generate tailwinds for Westinghouse and boost Brookfield's earnings.
But investors shouldn't jump to conclusions
GE Vernova and Westinghouse could benefit from Google's deal with Georgia Power, but investors shouldn't count their eggs before they hatch. Georgia's state regulators still need to approve the massive deal amid swelling protests against AI and data centers, and it will take at least a few years to uprate both plants.
Instead of assuming Google's deal with Georgia Power will drive more investors toward GE Vernova or Brookfield Renewable, investors should just view the deal as another positive sign for the AI power market. That's why Meta struck a similar deal with Constellation Energy last year. We'll likely see more of these deals as the AI market's breakneck expansion drives demand for nuclear power beyond its available supply.

Why did Constellation's stock soar?
Constellation operates nuclear, natural gas, oil, geothermal, hydro, wind, and solar facilities with a total capacity of 55 GW. Its nuclear fleet, the largest in the United States, accounts for 22 GW of that total and fuels most of its profit growth.
It already serves 80% of the Fortune 100, and it's benefiting from the rapid expansion of the power-hungry cloud and AI markets. Moreover, the Zero-Emission Nuclear Production Tax Credit (PTC), established under the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, subsidizes its business if energy prices are too low -- but amplifies its gains when energy prices rise.
From 2025 to 2028, analysts expect Constellation's EPS to grow at a 31% CAGR as it scales its power purchasing agreements (PPAs) with the top hyperscalers and enterprise companies, increases the capacity of its existing plants, and integrates its recent acquisition of Calpine. It still looks reasonably valued at 20 times next year's earnings, and it could be a great stock to buy, hold, and forget if you expect the global demand for electricity to keep rising.
