GE Vernova Inc. GEV is benefiting from acquisitions, either buying or integrating other businesses to strengthen its overall operations. GEV is enhancing its core strengths in electrification and power grid infrastructure. A stronger grid is essential as electricity demand rises, and these capabilities make GEV more competitive in supplying critical energy infrastructure.
The acquisitions help GEV expand its market reach by giving it access to new customers, regions and product offerings. This allows the company to compete more effectively across different energy markets, increasing its revenue opportunities.
In October 2025, GE Vernova announced plans to acquire the remaining 50% stake in Prolec GE. Capital expenditure is critical in the energy sector, as it drives infrastructure development, system reliability and long-term growth. Utilities must consistently invest in power generation, transmission and distribution networks to meet rising demand, integrate renewable energy sources and comply with evolving regulatory standards. The current interest rate in the range of 3.5% to 3.75% will also assist the capital-intensive utilities.
NextEra Energy plans to invest nearly $74.6 billion in the 2025-2029 period to strengthen its infrastructure and add more clean electricity generation assets. Constellation Energy expects to invest nearly $3 billion and $3.5 billion for 2025 and 2026, respectively. Nearly 35% of projected capital expenditures are for the acquisition of nuclear fuel, which includes additional nuclear fuel to increase inventory levels.

NextEra Energy currently appears to be trading at a discount compared with Constellation Energy on a Price/Earnings Forward 12-month basis. (P/E- F12M).

Oklo and Nano Nuclear look to reimagine nuclear power
Nuclear energy is regaining favor. In recent years, numerous countries have signed pledges to triple their nuclear energy capacity by 2050. Public support is near record highs, and nuclear power is also receiving bipartisan support for its ability to deliver clean, baseload power.
Oklo and Nano Nuclear are two upstart companies looking to reimagine nuclear power as we know it. Oklo has its advanced fission reactors, also known as Aurora powerhouses. These small reactors are designed to utilize recycled nuclear fuel and could help meet the demand for power from data centers, industrial operators, or even small communities.
Nano Nuclear develops even smaller, portable, industrial-scale reactors to bring power to remote sites, including mining sites, island communities, and disaster relief zones. These microreactors generate only 1 to 2 megawatts (MW) of output power, making them ideal for military and industrial applications, as well as a viable option for space use.
However, investing in either Oklo or Nano Nuclear Energy is risky. Both companies are pre-revenue and have no commercial product. For example, Oklo's first Aurora reactor is not expected to be operational until 2027 or 2028.
Meanwhile, Nano Nuclear is investing heavily in research and development of its microreactor technology. This is still in its early stages. Commercial deployment is even further off than it is for Oklo; most likely not until the 2030s at the earliest. In the meantime, Nano will look to establish a supply chain for uranium mining, HALEU fabrication, and nuclear fuel transportation.
Oklo and Nano Nuclear are pre-revenue, have no product yet, and have long timelines before they begin generating meaningful revenue. Like for all start-ups, these early stages are critical to their success and depend on funding, research and development, and regulatory approvals before they can scale up and, ideally, turn a profit. Failure to execute on this could be detrimental to the companies at this point in their life cycle, making them inherently risky for investors buying today.
Constellation Energy is making money today and has secured huge deals
One nuclear stock that is a better buy today is Constellation Energy. With 14 nuclear generating stations and a generating capacity of around 22 gigawatts (GW), Constellation is the largest nuclear plant operator in the United States and a leading producer of renewable energy.
The company owns a slew of assets in the energy space all across critical regions in the U.S., including the western half of the PJM region (a key U.S. electricity market and transmission system covering 13 states and Washington, D.C., serving over 65 million people) and the MISO region (which spans the Midwest and Plains regions and parts of the South).
Constellation operates its nuclear plants at best-in-class levels, with an average nuclear capacity factor of 94.6% over the past three years. This 4-percentage-point improvement over the industry average since 2013 translates into higher revenue per reactor for Constellation, along with more reliable energy that can continue to produce power during peak demand periods.
Constellation has secured several major deals over the past year. This includes a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Microsoft and the restart of Three Mile Island Unit 1. It also agreed to a 20-year PPA with Meta Platforms, which will purchase the entire output from the Clinton Clean Energy Center in Illinois. Finally, it was awarded $1 billion in combined contracts from the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) to supply power to more than 13 government agencies.
Constellation Energy's near-term outlook is clearer
Oklo and Nano Nuclear are developing innovative technology that could revolutionize the way nuclear energy is deployed. Their products could bring clean, reliable energy to remote places or industrial facilities. However, it will be years before their products are operational, and investing in these stocks is a risky endeavor.
Constellation Energy, on the other hand, owns a portfolio of energy assets, including the largest nuclear energy footprint in the U.S., and stands to benefit from rising energy demand in the coming years, making it a more attractive investment for investors today.

NextEra Energy is a public utility holding company engaged in the generation, transmission, distribution and sale of electric energy. The Zacks Rank #2 (Buy) company’s competitive energy business, NextEra Energy Resources LLC (“NEER”), is the leading generator of wind energy globally, based on MWh produced on a net generation basis.
In 2024, NEER successfully expanded its new wind generating capacity by 1,365 MW and also added 755 MW of battery storage capacity, thereby increasing its backlog of contracted renewable development projects. Artificial intelligence (AI)-powered data centers are now booming. The AI infrastructure space remains rock solid, supported by an extremely bullish demand scenario. Research firm McKinsey & Co. has estimated that global AI-powered data center infrastructure capex will reach around $7 trillion by 2030.
The energy-hungry AI space has made nuclear energy one of the hottest industries on Wall Street over the past year. Nuclear energy is increasingly recognized as a key solution to meeting rising global electricity demand and shifting toward cleaner energy sources. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission reported that the U.S. data center electricity demand is expected to climb to 35 gigawatts (GW) in 2030 from 19 GW in 2023.
To strengthen the nation's nuclear sector, President Donald Trump has issued four executive orders aimed at modernizing regulatory frameworks, expediting reactor testing and approvals, leveraging nuclear technology for national security, and expanding the domestic nuclear industrial base. These measures target an increase in U.S. nuclear capacity from about 100 gigawatts (GW) in 2024 to 400 GW by 2050.
The galloping requirement of electricity for data centers, significantly boosted the demand for those electric utilities that have access to nuclear power. Here we recommend three nuclear power stocks to buy for the long term.

Constellation Energy Corp.

As a result of its steady investment to upgrade its nuclear units, CEG's 21 nuclear reactors across 12 sites from the Midwest to the Northeast achieved a 98.8% operating rate during June through August 2025, reliably powering about 16 million homes and businesses.
Constellation Energy is an industry leader in operating nuclear plants safely, efficiently and reliably. Its acquisition of NRG Energy Inc.'s (NRG) 44% ownership stake in the South Texas Project Electric Generating Station has added a 2,645 MW, dual-unit nuclear plant to its portfolio.
Major Contracts
In late 2024, Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) entered into a 20-year agreement with CEG to revive the Three Mile Island nuclear plant in Pennsylvania. The $1.6 billion investment aims to restart the reactor, which has been dormant since 2019, to provide carbon-free electricity for Microsoft's expanding data centers. CEG expects to increase nuclear output by 160 MW at Byron and Braidwood, with investments of $800 million through 2029 for required low-pressure turbine replacements.
In January 2025, Constellation Energy entered into a nuclear power supply deal with the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) for clean energy. The combined value of the deal was more than $1 billion ($840M for power + $172M for efficiency). The tenure of this deal was for 10 years to provide more than 1 million MWh nuclear power per annum to federal agencies starting in 2025, supporting the government's net-zero goals.
In June 2025, Meta Platforms Inc. (META) signed a 20-year energy deal with CEG for supplying 1.1 gigawatts of nuclear power to its growing AI data centers in Illinois. Beginning in 2027, this agreement will ensure a steady supply of clean energy. This will help Meta Platforms expand its AI operations and cut carbon emissions.
Constellation Energy has an expected revenue and earnings growth rate of 11% and 22.5%, respectively, for next year. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for next year's earnings has improved 0.1% in the last seven days.
Talen Energy Corp.
Zacks Rank #3 Talen Energy owns and operates power infrastructure principally in the United States. The company produces and sells electricity, capacity and ancillary services primarily into wholesale power markets. TLN operates nuclear, fossil, solar, and coal power plants. TLN is also developing battery storage projects.
Major Deal
Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) has partnered with TLN in Pennsylvania to power its data centers with nuclear energy. On June 11, TLN announced the expansion of its existing nuclear energy relationship with Amazon to provide carbon-free energy from Talen's Susquehanna nuclear power plant to Amazon Web Services ("AWS") data centers in the region.
According to the agreement, TLN will provide AMZN with 1,920 megawatts of carbon-free nuclear power through 2042, with options to further extend its duration. TLN is expected to significantly benefit from the data centers' astonishing demand for reliable and clean energy.
Talen Energy has an expected revenue and earnings growth rate of 67.4% and more than 100%, respectively, for next year. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for next-year earnings has improved 1.2% in the last 30 days.

Dominion Energy has an expected revenue and earnings growth rate of 6.2% and 5.9%, respectively, for next year. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for current-year earnings has improved 0.3% over the last 60 days.
