Investors could easily justify buying Constellation for either its nuclear power exposure or because of its non-regulated business model. That said, it is a more aggressive option in the utility sector. For example, the stock is up 40% over the past year, but down 20% from its 52-week high. So it isn't cheap, but it also isn't as expensive as it was.
NextEra Energy is a hybrid option
NextEra Energy is more appropriate for income investors, as the dividend has been increased annually for decades. The yield is well above the market at 2.6%, which is also well above the 0.5% yield offered by Constellation Energy. NextEra Energy's business is also much less risky, given that the foundation is its large regulated electric utility operations in Florida. Florida has long benefited from in-migration, giving NextEra a slow and steady growth profile.
That said, NextEra Energy also has a growth angle. In addition to its regulated assets, it has built one of the world's largest solar and wind power businesses. Clean energy is an increasingly in-demand power option. The combination of regulated utility and clean energy giant is expected to support dividend growth of 6% a year for the next few years.
Both are attractive, but one will likely suit you better
Both Constellation Energy and NextEra Energy are attractive businesses. More aggressive types will likely find Constellation more to their liking, while conservative investors focused on income will probably prefer NextEra Energy. That said, both are fairly well-positioned to benefit from the growing demand for electricity.

Nuclear needs Cameco's uranium
Cameco is the world's second-largest uranium producer, having produced 17% of all the world's uranium in 2024. Uranium is the fuel that nuclear reactors rely upon, so Cameco is a powerful player in the industry. This also gives the company an incredible competitive moat that will be difficult to penetrate.
The company's financials tell a compelling story. Overall, revenue grew 11% to $3.48 billion in 2025. Adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) in 2025 grew 26%. Cameco has a strong backlog of uranium commitments, providing it with excellent revenue visibility and consistent cash flow.
Its stock has risen dramatically in the past 12 months, up more than 120%. Cameco is trading at a significant premium now, with both its forward and trailing P/E ratios above 120. This can be justified, however, if investors take a long-term approach to the stock and believe in the company's growth trajectory.
Cameco is due to report its first-quarter 2026 earnings results on Tuesday, May 5.
Constellation's growth is more than compelling
Constellation's growth story is eye-popping. The nuclear facility operator is targeting earnings-per-share (EPS) growth of more than 20% through 2029. It currently operates the largest nuclear fleet in the U.S.
The company has a non-replicable set of facilities but also benefits from incredible data center energy requirements -- a powerful combination. To meet demand, the company is strategically investing nearly $4 billion in growth capital expenditures, expecting double-digit returns. This competitive moat will serve the company and its shareholders well for years to come.
Constellation announced in its last quarterly earnings report that it expects to increase the dividend by another 10% in 2026, following a 10% increase in 2025. Constellation also plans to buy back another $5 billion in shares this year, another bullish sign for investors.
As of this writing, Constellation's stock has dropped 13% since the beginning of 2026. This drop in share price marks an appealing entry point for investors still on the sidelines.
Oklo is the nuclear stock of the future
You may be surprised to see a pre-revenue company on this list of nuclear stocks to buy and hold for decades. Admittedly, Oklo is a far higher-risk investment than Cameco or Constellation, but the upside potential is also massive for this designer of small nuclear reactors.
The company's partnerships are gaining real momentum. It recently announced a high-profile collaboration with Nvidia and the Los Alamos National Laboratory to support the federal government's Genesis Mission. Inclusion in this deal is a real boost for the company's credibility and future commercial viability.
Oklo is awaiting full licensing approval from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to become fully operational. The company could start generating real revenue by 2027.
The stock is quite volatile. The 52-week range spans from a low of $22 per share to a high of $193 per share. Oklo is best suited for those who can withstand wild price swings. As of this writing, Oklo is trading around $70 per share, which is a decent entry point considering the bullish partnership pipeline.
Nuclear is here to stay
Nuclear energy is increasingly becoming more efficient and clean. In a world with insatiable energy demand and a growing appetite for sustainability, nuclear will play a significant role. Cameco, Constellation, and Oklo each have their own charted paths within this sector, but will all play hugely impactful parts.
Depending on your time horizon and risk profile, these three companies are worth buying and holding onto for decades.

American States Water owns several utility companies, most notably Golden State Water Company. It serves over 1 million customers across 10 states. While American States Water's size and scale pale in comparison with the similarly named American Water Works, you may want to buy this water utility over the other.
American States Water is one of the Dividend Kings, or stocks with more than 50 consecutive years of dividend growth. The stock has the longest dividend growth streak among U.S.-listed stocks. The company has increased its dividend each calendar year for 71 consecutive years.
American States Water may have only a 2.5% yield, but between its dividend growth track record, and the company's goal of a 7% annualized dividend growth rate moving forward, this utility could deliver steady and strong total returns in the years ahead.
Constellation Energy Group is embracing the AI revolution
Electric utilities may be benefiting from electricity growth stemming from the proliferation of AI data centers, but among electric utility stocks, Constellation Energy Group may be the one with the strongest AI catalyst. So far, the tech industry has secured an electricity supply where it can, regardless of whether it comes from fossil fuels or renewable sources.
However, in the long term, locking in clear energy sources will become a much greater priority. That's good news for Constellation. It owns the largest fleet of nuclear facilities in the United States. Nuclear energy was previously shunned for safety reasons, but big business and public opinion have been shifting, mainly because of its greater scalability compared to wind or solar energy.
Since it's trading for 26 times forward earnings, AI-related growth at first appears already accounted for in the stock's valuation. Even so, as the AI data center trend remains in motion, Constellation remains poised to live up to forecasts calling for annualized earnings growth of around 20%. If this happens, the stock could sustain this valuation, or perhaps even experience a further rerating.
NextEra is another utility with AI and "green wave" catalysts
NextEra Energy is the parent company of Florida Power & Light. Owning a utility in a fast-growing state has contributed to its strong performance in recent years, but so too has the company's aggressive pivot toward generating electricity via renewable sources.
Through its NextEra Energy Resources unit, the company has been building renewable and natural gas power plants across the U.S. Although the company initially intended to capitalize on the "green wave," or a major pivot toward the generation and use of clean energy, NextEra is now capitalizing on another tailwind: the AI data center growth trend.
After the stock got out of its early 2020s slump, shares have nearly doubled in price in less than three years. Better yet, further upside may be in the cards for this renewable energy stock. For one, management anticipates annualized earnings growth of around 8% between now and 2035. This could help sustain the stock's mid-20s forward earnings multiple, with shares continuing to rise in line with increased earnings. Earnings growth also points to continued dividend growth. The dividend, currently at around 2.6%, has increased 32 years in a row.

Around the world, nuclear power is enjoying a renaissance of renewed interest and investment. In the U.S. alone, the Department of Energy has set a goal to triple America's nuclear output by the middle of the century. Big tech companies are working with power companies to resurrect nuclear plants to power data centers.

As a result of that interest, nuclear stocks have been surging. And these three appear to be some of the best.
From the mine
Up first is Cameco (NYSE: CCJ), one of the world's premier uranium miners. In 2025, it was responsible for 15% of all the uranium produced in the world that year. The only company that produced more was Kazakhstan's state-owned company Kazatomprom.
The company is present through virtually the entirety of the nuclear fuel cycle. It has two high-grade mines in Canada and a third low-grade mine in Kazakhstan. It also has a fuel services division that refines and produces finished uranium fuel rods.
Finally, through a joint venture with Brookfield Asset Management (NYSE: BAM) it has 49% ownership of Westinghouse, an engineering company that produces the AP1000, which is the most advanced nuclear reactor on the market today.
For 2025, Cameco's revenue grew 11% and it maintains both a high net profit margin of 16.9% and a low debt-to-equity ratio of 0.14, which is good to see in an industry as capital intensive as mining.
To the reactor
All the uranium Cameco mines is for reactors around the world, including the 94 in the United States. And the single largest operator of those nuclear reactors is Constellation Energy Corp (NASDAQ: CEG).
Constellation is a pretty straightforward energy company with one key thing that sets it apart. It's both America's largest producer of green energy and its largest producer of nuclear energy. It owns 21 of America's nuclear reactors and it will be adding a new one soon.
The company has partnered with Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) to recomission part of the Three Mile Island nuclear plant as the Crane Clean Energy Center. Once completed (targeted for 2028), Microsoft has a 20-year power purchase agreement with Constellation to buy energy from the plant for its data centers in the area.
As an energy utility, Constellation is fairly stable and slow-growing. For 2025, its revenue was up 8.3% over 2024 and it recorded a net profit margin of 9.1%. It also has a healthy debt-to-equity ratio of 0.61.
It does pay a dividend, which it has increased every year since 2022. But it only yields 0.55% at present. However, with a payout ratio of 20.96%, Constellation has plenty of room to keep growing that dividend into the future.
Speaking of the future, Constellation's nuclear fleet represents the current generation of nuclear technology well, but there are plenty of companies pioneering the frontier of fission technology.
And onto the future
BWX Technologies (NYSE: BWXT) has been a leader in the naval nuclear reactor industry since the 1950s when it designed and produced components for the USS Nautilus, the world's first nuclear submarine. Since then, it has produced over 400 nuclear reactors for the U.S. Navy.
Its history in naval nuclear technology has given BWX a lot of experience making nuclear reactors work on a small scale. And it is bringing that capability to bear with its BWXT Advanced Nuclear Reactor or BANR, which is a small modular reactor (SMR).
SMRs work on the same principles as a conventional nuclear reactor, they're just smaller. BWX's BANR is no different. It's designed to be built in parts in a factory and then shipped out and put together at its final location. Once constructed, it can generate 75 megawatts of power, which makes it a potential solution to the power needs of artificial intelligence (AI) data centers.
And where other SMR companies are start-ups focused solely on developing SMRs, BWX has plenty of revenue from its existing business. For 2025, it brought in revenue of $3.19 billion, up 18% over 2024. Its earnings per share (EPS) grew 20% over the same period. The company also maintains a net profit margin of 10.3%.
If Cameco and Constellation represent the present of nuclear technology, BWX represents the future, the bleeding edge of where nuclear engineering is headed. All three of them are worth a look and I expect the nuclear bull run will continue through the remainder of this year and into the future.

Constellation Energy (NASDAQ: CEG) is in the middle of its own bear market, with its stock down 25% from its 52-week high. The company has been making some big moves, expanding its business and inking important power supply deals. The problem is a shift in investor sentiment. But for most investors, the recent negativity around the stock probably isn't bad enough to make it a buy.
Constellation Energy sells power
Unlike a regulated electric utility, Constellation Energy sells power on the open market. That is good if demand for electricity is material, since the company can charge what are likely to be attractive market rates. The world is increasingly using electricity, with huge demand coming from technologies like electric vehicles and artificial intelligence. Electricity demand is, indeed, strong right now, and it is expected to remain strong for years to come.

Constellation Energy is in a good position. Adding to the allure is the company's large portfolio of nuclear power assets. Given that nuclear power doesn't produce greenhouse gases, it is a clean energy source. Tech giants like Meta (NASDAQ: META) have been inking deals with Constellation Energy to gain access to its clean nuclear power. Nuclear is going through a renaissance, leading investors to bid up the price of companies like Constellation Energy.
Meanwhile, Constellation Energy has broadened its portfolio with the acquisition of Calpine, an electricity generator that largely uses natural gas. Constellation Energy is now a bigger and more diversified business and even better prepared to meet the growing electricity needs of its customers. From a business perspective, Constellation Energy is very attractive.
Nuclear is less hot than it was
However, investor enthusiasm for nuclear power stocks has cooled off a bit. That's a big part of the 25% drawdown that the stock has experienced. The stock is, indeed, cheaper than it was, but it still isn't particularly cheap. For investors who care about valuation, however, it probably won't be worth buying. It is still up 40% over the past year and nearly 300% over the past three years.
Looking at traditional valuation metrics highlights the problem even more. Constellation Energy's price-to-sales ratio remains twice its five-year average, even after the decline. The price-to-earnings ratio is 40x, which is very high on an absolute level. In fact, it is even higher than the roughly 32x P/E of the average technology stock.
Good business, not so good price
Even a good business can be a bad investment if you pay too much for it. That looks like the situation with Constellation Energy right now. There are only two ways to remedy this. Either the stock can fall until the valuation is more reasonable, or the business can grow into the current valuation, which would likely mean the stock price remains stagnant. Neither option is a great outcome for investors.
This is a stock you may want to keep on your wish list, but there's no particular reason to rush out and buy it right now.
