The Uranium segment is involved in the exploration for, mining, and milling, purchase, and sale of uranium concentrate. The Fuel Services segment engages in the refining, conversion, and fabrication of uranium concentrate, as well as the purchase and sale of conversion services. This segment also produces CANDU reactor fuel bundles and other reactor components. The company offers nuclear fuel processing services. The Westinghouse segment engages in the manufacture of nuclear reactor technology original equipment. This segment provides products and services to commercial utilities and government agencies; and outage and maintenance services, engineering support, instrumentation and controls equipment, plant modification, and components and parts to nuclear reactors. It sells its uranium and fuel services to nuclear utilities in the Americas, Europe, and Asia. Cameco Corporation was incorporated in 1987 and is headquartered in Saskatoon, Canada.

All set to catch the nuclear energy boom
Nuclear energy is quickly taking center stage as a steady and a reliable source of clean energy to meet the surging demand for electricity, especially from artificial intelligence (AI) operations and data centers that consume massive amounts of power. That's one of the reasons why President Donald Trump is also going all in to boost the domestic nuclear energy industry.
That also means massive potential for the supply side of the industry, especially providers of nuclear fuel, uranium. And it's where Cameco steps in.
Cameco is one of the largest uranium miners in the world, selling uranium and fuel services to nuclear utilities across America, Europe, and Asia. Cameco's 49% stake in Westinghouse Electric Company also makes it a top supplier of nuclear equipment and technologies.
Here's where things start to get interesting. Cameco's third-quarter earnings report coming up on Nov. 5 could propel the stock higher.
Why Cameco's sales and earnings could surge
Cameco has two big things going for it: uranium prices and Westinghouse.
Cameco regularly calculates average industry uranium prices and releases them. Its September-end spot uranium price of $82.63 per pound, as well as long-term price of $83 per pound, are the highest in all of 2025.
With Cameco also already locking in delivery commitments for 2025 under long-term contracts, its revenue could get a solid boost in Q3, backed by higher volumes as well as prices.
Westinghouse, meanwhile, should drive Cameco's earnings higher. Last quarter, Cameco significantly bumped up its expectations from Westinghouse. The Trump administration's push to restart idled nuclear reactors and build more creates significant opportunities for Westinghouse.
Should you buy Cameco stock hand over fist?
A strong earnings report, though, is a short-term potential catalyst for Cameco stock. Its long-term thesis is a lot more compelling, and you should be able to get a glimpse of it as well in November.
Cameco plans its production for long-term contracting with utilities, not for spot uranium exposure. Cameco believes utilities will have to secure a "significant amount of uranium" through 2045 to meet their fuel needs. The World Nuclear Association's latest biennial report, meanwhile, suggests that demand for uranium could more than double by 2040.
Cameco has been steadfast and strong through the worst of times. Today, the outlook for nuclear energy and uranium looks better than ever. Cameco has been a monster stock in the past, and the next big bull run might just be getting started. Buying some shares now, therefore, could be a solid investment move.

This nuclear power giant has bagged some massive deals
Since becoming a stand-alone publicly listed company in 2022 after separation from Exelon, Constellation Energy (NASDAQ: CEG) has focused exclusively on clean energy centered on nuclear power.
Today, Constellation Energy is the leading producer of carbon-free energy and operates the largest nuclear fleet in the United States. The company isn't resting on its laurels, though. It's on track to acquire Calpine in a $16.4 billion cash-and-stock deal, including $12.7 billion of Calpine's debt, to create a low-and-free-carbon energy giant with a capacity of nearly 60 gigawatts (GW). That's almost twice the owned generating capacity Constellation Energy had as of the end of 2024.
The acquisition will expand Constellation Energy's footprint in fast-growing artificial intelligence data center markets like Texas and be immediately accretive to earnings and cash flows. Meanwhile, the recent flurry of deals Constellation Energy has signed clearly shows the growing demand for nuclear energy and the company's potential.
Last year for instance, Constellation Energy signed its biggest power purchase agreement (PPA) ever with tech giant Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT), agreeing to supply power to Microsoft's data centers over 20 years. It's a significant deal from the nuclear energy industry's standpoint as Constellation Energy plans to restart shuttered Unit 1 of its Three Mile Island nuclear power plant (renamed as the Crane Clean Energy Center) to provide power to Microsoft. In June this year, Constellation Energy signed another 20-year nuclear energy PPA, this time with tech behemoth Meta Platforms.
It's hard to match Constellation Energy's size and scale in nuclear power, and that alone makes it a no-brainer nuclear energy stock to buy. What's more, Constellation Energy also pays a regular dividend, raised its dividend payout by 10% earlier this year, and is aggressively repurchasing shares.

But the big thing is still the connection to nuclear power.

Nuclear power is, once again, in vogue. As a source of electricity it provides always-on power, also called base-load power, and it doesn't emit greenhouse gases, so it is so-called clean energy. That makes it a valuable companion to intermittent renewable power sources like solar and wind. With huge demand expected from things like data centers and artificial intelligence, the world has started to embrace nuclear power as a desirable energy option.
The problem is that nuclear power has been through periods similar to this before. But high-profile nuclear accidents (Fukushima, Chernobyl, Three Mile Island) quickly changed the world's view of nuclear power when they occurred. Accidents happen, so it is highly likely that another nuclear meltdown will, eventually, take place. That could again shift the view of nuclear power, and Cameco, for the worse. There's no way to avoid that risk if you buy Cameco stock.
The long-term picture is attractive for Cameco
Assuming you are willing to take on the idiosyncratic risks associated with the nuclear power niche, Cameco could have a very bright future as a business. Cameco estimates that starting around 2030, the demand for uranium will begin to outstrip the supply of the nuclear fuel. Currently planned supply expansions aren't nearly large enough to bridge the supply gap that is expected to emerge over the decades that follow.
When a commodity sees more demand than there is supply the price of that commodity usually starts to head sharply higher. That's the background that supports a very bright outlook for Cameco. To be fair, high commodity prices generally bring in new investment, so the outlook may not be as rosy as it seems today. But the trend is pretty clear: Higher uranium prices will be in the cards if things don't change with uranium supply or demand.
On top of that, Cameco has diversified its business to include nuclear power services, via its investment in Westinghouse. That business should provide more consistent revenue over time, helping to offset some of the inherent volatility in the company's commodity-driven uranium mining and processing operations. All in, it is a fairly compelling backdrop.
That said, Cameco's price-to-book value ratio has risen dramatically and is now near the highest levels in the company's history. In fact, the P/B ratio is above where it was just prior to the 2011 Fukushima meltdown. It looks like investors have priced in a lot of good news at this point, suggesting that things may need to go very well if there is to be further sustained upside in the stock.
Tread with caution with Cameco
Cameco is a well-run business and if you are looking for a pick-and-shovel play in the nuclear power sector it is a good candidate. But if you buy it you really need to believe that there is material growth ahead for nuclear power and, thus, more demand coming for uranium. You also need to make sure you are comfortable with the headline risk inherent to the industry because of the potential for nuclear meltdowns. This is not a great option for risk-averse investors. And yet, if things go well, the business could continue to see strong demand and earnings for years to come.

Cameco Stock Is Having a Good Year so Far. Can the Run Continue?

NuScale Power (NYSE: SMR) was created in 2007 for a single purpose: to bring the world's first small modular nuclear reactor design to market. Roughly 17 years later, the company is closer than ever to achieving this vision. In fact, it is likely to become the first company to make the real-world adoption of small-scale nuclear reactors a reality.
Notably, the company's market cap remains at just $10 billion. The next 17 years of the company's history could see that figure balloon higher. There are three storylines in particular to track closely.

1. When will NuScale Power book its first order?
With funding support from its majority investor, Fluor (NYSE: FLR), NuScale became the first company to receive certification from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission in 2023 for its 50 megawatt (MW) unit. In May of 2025, it received certification for a larger, 77 MW version. With these certifications in hand, NuScale began production of 12 modular units -- enough to complete a first order. Management believes a deal should be achieved by the end of the year.
This milestone should be reached fairly soon. But it's a game-changer for both the company and the industry as a whole. Small nuclear reactors have been a promising technology for decades, yet cost, feasibility, and societal pushback have prevented their real-world adoption. But now, the future is finally here. Well, almost. If NuScale can close a deal this year for reactors that are not only certified but also already under construction, the age of small modular reactors will have finally arrived.
Note that it may take until 2030 for any potential deal to actually be completed, given long engineering timelines. But revenue should be accrued significantly before then, causing investment and excitement to ramp considerably across the sector.
2. How fast will the competition catch up?
If NuScale completes its first order this year, the next question becomes: When will the competition catch up? There are many other players in the space, including publicly traded peers like Oklo, Westinghouse, and GE Vernova. Each company has a slightly different strategy.
NuScale is mostly focused on civilian-grade commercial power generation. Oklo, on the other hand, is developing a compact liquid-metal fast reactor. These reactors differ from the traditional water-cooled designs that NuScale specializes in. Through partially owned GE Hitachi, GE Vernova also has some exposure to smaller reactors, though its design is relatively large and uses a simpler boiling water design. Westinghouse, co-owned by Brookfield Renewable and Cameco, already has a project planned in the U.K,, though it still lacks complete certification.
While water-cooled designs are arguably more proven, with clearer certification pathways, Oklo's approach has clear advantages when it comes to sustainability (its reactors can run on recycled nuclear fuel) and size (its reactors can be a fraction of the size of NuScale's, offering advantages in remote areas).
Competitors like Oklo, Westinghouse, and GE Vernova may still be years away from SMR certification, giving NuScale a structural advantage when it comes to booking customers, building scale, and proving its technology in real-world environments. But as mentioned, NuScale's potential success will draw increased interest from investors and customers. Monitoring the competition over the next two to five years will be critical for every nuclear investor.
3. Which problems will small modular nuclear reactors solve?
Long term, the biggest open question is which industries will see the greatest adoption of small, modular nuclear reactors.
If ultra-compact reactors for remote worksites and communities become the biggest winners, Oklo arguably has a leading position. But if electric utilities looking to ditch fossil fuels and complement the intermittency of conventional renewable energy generation begin to adopt SMRs, or if data centers thirsty for power due to rising demand for artificial intelligence look to nuclear, NuScale and Westinghouse have an advantage. Boiling water reactors like GE Vernova's, however, have a long history of safety. If adoption of more complex SMR designs struggles, we could see simpler systems like this succeed.
Put simply, picking a small modular reactor stock isn't as simple as predicting a rise in demand for such technologies. Which specific industries adopt these technologies will help lead investors to the right pick. With artificial intelligence spending expected to rise by 30% per year over the next decades, plus a rise in demand from utilities looking to meet clean energy mandates and stabilize their grids, I'm expecting demand for NuScale's products to soar over the next 17 years.
Just understand that the revenue curve may be slower than expected. These projects take time to construct and build real-world validation. No matter which nuclear stock you choose, be sure to maintain a long time horizon.

Where Will NuScale Power Be in 17 Years?

Investors in Cameco Corp. (Symbol: CCJ) saw new options become available today, for the September 2026 expiration. One of the key inputs that goes into the price an option buyer is willing to pay, is the time value, so with 340 days until expiration the newly available contracts represent a possible opportunity for sellers of puts or calls to achieve a higher premium than would be available for the contracts with a closer expiration. At Stock Options Channel, our YieldBoost formula has looked up and down the CCJ options chain for the new September 2026 contracts and identified one put and one call contract of particular interest.
The put contract at the $90.00 strike price has a current bid of $13.00. If an investor was to sell-to-open that put contract, they are committing to purchase the stock at $90.00, but will also collect the premium, putting the cost basis of the shares at $77.00 (before broker commissions). To an investor already interested in purchasing shares of CCJ, that could represent an attractive alternative to paying $92.28/share today.
Because the $90.00 strike represents an approximate 2% discount to the current trading price of the stock (in other words it is out-of-the-money by that percentage), there is also the possibility that the put contract would expire worthless. The current analytical data (including greeks and implied greeks) suggest the current odds of that happening are 64%. Considering the call seller will also collect the premium, that would drive a total return (excluding dividends, if any) of 24.24% if the stock gets called away at the September 2026 expiration (before broker commissions). Their importance was already well known, but the renewed interest in the stock of rare-earth element miners is largely credited to President Donald Trump's policies targeting supply chains for crucial materials.
Currently, 80% of the rare earth elements consumed in the U.S. are imported, with 77% coming from China. The Trump administration is going all-in to reduce this reliance for such crucial materials, buying stakes in companies to fuel domestic mining and production of rare earth elements.
One rare earth miner whose stock is turning out to be a monster that could be the next Trump target is USA Rare Earth (NASDAQ: USAR). The stock has soared 250% in just the past three months, and it could rally even higher.
While there are several companies mining for rare earth minerals, USA Rare Earth is a vertically integrated mining-to-magnets company. Simply put, it mines rare earth minerals and manufactures magnets, the end-use products that go into EV motors, hard disc drives, wind turbine generators, MRI machines, and defense and aerospace equipment.
USA Rare Earth holds mining rights to the Round Top Mountain deposit in Texas, but is currently focused on building a rare earth magnet plant in Stillwater, Oklahoma. It expects to begin production as early as next year and is acquiring U.K.-based LCM for $100 million in cash and $6.74 million in stock to scale up production to a full capacity of 5,000 metric tons. LCM's output will be used as feedstock at Stillwater.
USA Rare Earth's new CEO, Barbara Humpton, recently said in a CNBC interview that the company is in close communication with the Trump administration for a potential deal. In July, the U.S. Department of Defense struck a deal to acquire a 15% stake in another producer of rare earth elements, MP Materials (NYSE: MP).
With China recently imposing more-stringent export controls on these raw materials, there's an even bigger incentive for the U.S. government to push domestic miners. With USA Rare Earth already signing up several customers and expecting its first magnet sales next year, the stock could generate explosive returns in the long term.
