But the current volatility with oil due to the possibility of the Strait of Hormuz being closed or even possibly mined likely has many more countries looking into more nuclear power if they weren't already.
Fortunately for investors tired of oil volatility, there are several companies operating in the nuclear industry that are worth a look. Here are some of the best.
Fueling the future
Up first is Canada's Cameco (NYSE: CCJ), which is one of the largest uranium miners in the world.
It was responsible for 15% of all the uranium produced globally last year. It's the second-largest uranium miner in the world, behind only Kazatomprom, Kazakhstan's state-run miner.
Cameco operates both the largest high-grade uranium mine in the world at McArthur River and has one of the highest-grade uranium mines in the world at Cigar Lake.
On the back of uranium's 34% price growth over the past year, Cameco generated revenue of $3.4 billion, up 11% over 2024. It's also worth nothing that prior to the Iran conflict, uranium was the only energy resource that had gone up over the past year.
And, for operating in an industry as capital-intensive as mining is, Cameco still manages a net profit margin of 16.9% and has a very healthy debt-to-equity ratio of 0.14.
But Cameco does more than just mine uranium, though that is the core of its business and where it generates the bulk of its revenue.
The company also operates a uranium refinery and fuel production facilities, and it holds 49% of Westinghouse.
Westinghouse, which Cameco holds as a joint venture with Brookfield Asset Management, is an engineering company that designs and builds nuclear reactors like the AP1000, which is the most advanced commercially available reactor on the market.
With Cameco you have an investment in almost every part of the nuclear fuel production cycle, from the mines to the reactors to the uranium powers.
Pint-sized power plants
One of the most interesting developments in nuclear technology in recent years has been small modular reactors (SMRs), which are miniaturized nuclear power plants that could potentially power data center clusters and remote facilities.
And one of the best companies working on SMRs has over seven decades of experience building small-scale nuclear reactors: BWX Technologies (NYSE: BWXT).
Since the 1950s, when it designed components for America's first nuclear submarine, BWX has produced over 400 naval nuclear reactors. And, while there are currently no SMRs up and running anywhere in the world, BWX's BANR power plant is one of the most promising prototypes and would be capable of generating 50 megawatts of power from a factory-built plant a fraction of the size of a conventional nuclear plant.
There are other SMR companies developing the technology, but many of them are small companies that are solely focused on SMR technology. For BWX it's a project and not the core of its business.
So, BWX has reliable and growing revenue and is not reliant on an influx of investor dollars or a contract coming through to build its SMRs. That makes it a less risky prospect than pure-play SMR companies.
Speaking of, that revenue came in at $3.19 billion last year, up 18% over 2024 and the company's earnings per share (EPS) grew 20% over the same period. The company also maintains a strong net margin of 10.3%.
BWX is a leader in small reactor technology and a safer way to play the potential of SMRs than many of its competitors.
Star power
Finally, there's Constellation Energy (NASDAQ: CEG), which is the largest green energy producer in the United States and the country's largest producer of nuclear power.
There are currently 94 nuclear reactors in the United States spread across 54 power plants that collectively generate 20% of the country's electricity. Constellation operates 21 of them, or a little over 1/5 of America's entire nuclear reactor fleet.
For 2025, Constellation saw a solid revenue increase of 8% over 2024 and the company's adjusted operating EPS also grew 8%. It also maintains a net margin of 9.1% and pays a dividend that yields 0.83% at current prices.
And, the company announced a 10% increase in its dividend per share at the end of 2025 with another 10% increase planned this year.
With these three stocks, you give your portfolio exposure to every part of the nuclear industry, from the uranium mine to the reactor to the generation of power, and you'll be set to profit from nuclear energy's renaissance.

The logic behind this is simple: when oil and gas become weapons of geopolitical instability, uranium-fueled power generated domestically becomes invaluable. Unlike fossil fuels tied to the Middle East, nuclear energy supplied by top global producers like France and Canada provides a strategic buffer as their production sits safely outside the current war zones.
Will Nuclear’s Rally Continue in the Future?
While the current war scenario has set the stage for sustained nuclear industry expansion, it has been witnessing a solid rally before the escalation of the Middle East conflict, thanks to nuclear’s crucial role in the AI industry.
As major tech firms like Amazon, Google and Microsoft are investing heavily in nuclear power, including SMRs, to operate their power-intensive AI data centers, the use of increased nuclear energy as a source of power will remain even after this war ends.
To this end, analysts at Bernstein have projected uranium prices to remain structurally higher due to supply tightness and surging demand, with nuclear's role as an "AI agent" for data center power. This, in turn, should continue to fuel nuclear’s boom in the future, boosting the nuclear industry’s prospects.

Cameco (NYSE: CCJ) is uniquely positioned as one of the largest providers of uranium and nuclear fuel products with operations in North America. The company has a robust asset base, including investments in high-grade mines in Canada, such as McArthur River and Cigar Lake, as well as mills such as Key Lake. It also holds a 40% stake in Joint Venture Inkai, one of the world's largest uranium deposits, located in Kazakhstan.
Outside of mining, Cameco also has investments across the nuclear fuel value chain and nuclear energy infrastructure. The company operates the Blind River refinery in Ontario, the world's largest commercial uranium refinery. In addition, it holds a 49% ownership stake in Westinghouse Electric Company, the original equipment manufacturer for about 50% of the global nuclear reactor fleet.
The miner has a backlog of contracts that lock in future revenue, so it doesn't rely on the volatile spot market but still maintains some exposure to rising prices. As older price contracts roll off, the company is capturing greater upside as uranium prices rise. The company has commitments to deliver 230 million pounds of uranium, and the contracts guarantee an average annual delivery of about 28 million pounds over the next five years.
Cameco is well-positioned as a major uranium miner with high-grade assets and long-term contracts that secure future revenue. Its position as a top miner in North America, along with its stake in Westinghouse Electric, provides it with exposure to the ongoing nuclear energy buildout, making it a top nuclear stock for investors to buy and hold long-term.
2. GE Vernova's power equipment includes small modular reactors
GE Vernova (NYSE: GEV) is a major power equipment provider with an installed base of equipment that generates roughly 25% of the world's electricity. The company is engaging in discussions with utility providers, hyperscale customers, and projects where SMRs will meaningfully contribute to revenue in the 2030s.

3. BWX Technologies is a crucial partner for the U.S. government
BWX Technologies (NYSE: BWXT) doesn't own or operate nuclear power plants. Instead, it manufactures the complex, specialized equipment and fuel required to make nuclear power and nuclear medicine work. Its primary revenue stream comes from providing engineering, design, and manufacturing services for nuclear reactors and nuclear fuel that power U.S. Navy submarines and aircraft carriers.
What makes BWX compelling is its position as a trusted government contractor and its expanding commercial business. As part of its work with the U.S. government, the company performs sensitive nuclear tasks, including re-establishing domestic uranium enrichment capabilities for national defense. On top of that, its subsidiary, Nuclear Fuel Services, is the sole provider of nuclear fuel for the U.S. Navy.
In addition, it has a rapidly growing commercial segment serving the energy and medical industries. It is the only commercial manufacturer of heavy nuclear components, such as massive steam generators and pressure vessels, in North America. It also specializes in manufacturing radioactive isotopes used by pharmaceutical companies to diagnose and treat cancer.
BWX Technologies is uniquely positioned as a trusted partner of the U.S. government, with defense contracts that provide it with a steady stream of long-term revenue. Energy Fuels has surged 401.2% in the past year, outperforming the industry’s 88.2% growth, the Zacks Basic Materials sector’s 42.7% return and the S&P 500’s 23.1% climb. The stock has fared better than Cameco, which has gained 185.1% in a year. Meanwhile, Centrus Energy shares have appreciated 163.5%.

UUUU Sees 2025 Revenues Decline, Reports a Loss
The company’s revenues fell 16% year over year to $65.9 million in 2025. Uranium revenues rose 27% year over year to $48.2 million, with 650,000 pounds sold at an average realized price of $74.21 per pound. This included 350,000 pounds sold on the spot market at $76.90 and 300,000 pounds under long-term contracts at $71.06.
In 2024, Energy Fuels sold 450,000 pounds of uranium at a weighted average price of $84.23 per pound. The gains from the increase in sales volume in 2025 were somewhat offset by a decline in average realized price.
Heavy mineral sands (HMS) revenues declined sharply to $15.8 million from $39.9 million in 2024. The drop reflected lower sales volumes following the completion of mining at the Kwale mine in December 2024 and shipment timing. The final HMS shipment occurred in April 2025.
Energy Fuels reported a loss of 38 cents per share in 2025, wider than the 28 cents per share loss in 2024, mainly due to elevated costs following the Base Resources acquisition. This included higher selling, general and administrative costs associated with an expanded workforce. Exploration and development costs were also higher, associated with further exploration and development activities related to the Juniper Zone at the Pinyon Plain Project, development at the La Sal Project, exploration at the Bahia Project and delineation drilling at Nichols Ranch.
Energy Fuels’ Uranium Output Beats Targets in 2025
Energy Fuels mined material containing roughly 1.72 million pounds of uranium from the Pinyon Plain, La Sal and Pandora mines, exceeding the guidance range of 0.875-1.44 million pounds.
The Pinyon Plain mine alone contributed approximately 1.53 million pounds of uranium with an average grade of approximately 1.62%, making it one of the highest-grade uranium mines in U.S. history.
Energy Fuels processed and produced 1.015 million pounds of finished uranium in 2025, higher than the guidance of 0.7-1 million pounds.
UUUU Projects Production Growth in 2026
The company expects to mine 2-2.5 million pounds of uranium in 2026, of which Pinyon is expected to contribute more than 2 million pounds. UUUU expects to process between 1.5 million and 2.5 million pounds of finished uranium and sell 1.5-2 million pounds of uranium under existing contracts and spot market sales.
Processing of low-cost Pinyon Plain ore, which began in late 2025, is expected to continue through the second quarter of 2026.
Energy Fuels expects gross margins in 2026 to increase to 50% and above, as the finished inventory weighted average cost continues to decrease from $43 per pound to the low $30 levels and uranium prices strengthen.
Energy Fuels’ REE Expansion Plans Strengthen Growth Strategy
The company became the first U.S. producer to report commercial-spec dysprosium production. In December, the 99.9% purity dysprosium oxide produced at its White Mesa Mill passed the stringent quality check requirements of a major South Korean permanent magnet manufacturer.
In September 2025, the company announced that high-purity NdPr oxide produced from U.S.-sourced monazite concentrates was successfully manufactured into commercial-scale rare earth permanent magnets (REPMs) by South Korea's largest manufacturer of EV drive unit motor cores. Approximately 1.2 MT of NdPr oxide were processed into approximately 3 MT of REPMs, sufficient to power approximately 1,500 new vehicles.
These achievements position it among the very few U.S. companies capable of supplying both “light” (NdPr) and “heavy” rare earth oxides that are qualified for permanent magnet applications.
Energy Fuels is planning a Phase 2 expansion of REE processing at White Mesa, increasing NdPr oxide capacity from the current 1,049 tons per year to around 6,294 tons annually. With an estimated capital cost of $410 million and projected all-in production costs of $29.39/kg NdPr equivalent, the company expects its REE operations to rank among the lowest-cost producers globally.
Also, the feasibility study for the Vara Mada project (previously Toliara) in Madagascar highlights strong project economics, world-class reserves of rare earths, titanium and zircon, and an initial mine life of 38 years with significant expansion potential.
Energy Fuels has also inked a deal to acquire Australian Strategic Materials, a leading producer of REE (rare earth element) metals and alloys. Expected to close in the first half of this year, the deal will help create the largest, fully integrated REE "mine-to-metal and alloy" producer outside of China.
UUUU’s Balance Sheet Remains Debt-Free
Energy Fuels ended 2025 with $927.5 million of working capital, including $64.7 million of cash and cash equivalents, $797.1 million of marketable securities, $18 million of trade and other receivables, $73.5 million of inventory, and no debt. Meanwhile, Cameco’s debt-to-capital ratio is at 0.13 and Centrus Energy’s at 0.61.
Energy Fuels Headed for a Loss in 2026, Turnaround in 2027
The Zacks Consensus Estimate for UUUU’s earnings for 2026 is pegged at a loss of six cents per share, narrower than the loss of 38 cents in 2025. The bottom-line estimate for 2027 stands at earnings of 13 cents per share. This suggests that 2027 will be the company's first year of profit since it started trading on the NYSE in December 2013.

UUUU’s Long-Term Outlook Remains Attractive
Rising demand for uranium and REEs, along with U.S. efforts to reduce reliance on Chinese supply chains, provides strong long-term tailwinds. The White Mesa Mill in Utah, being the only U.S. facility able to process monazite and produce separated REE materials, gives the company an edge. The U.S. Geological Survey’s addition of uranium to its 2025 Critical Minerals List further highlights its strategic importance for national security and domestic supply chains.

Powerful total return potential
Brookfield Renewable is a global leader in clean power. It operates hydro, wind, solar, and battery storage assets. Additionally, it has a growing sustainable solutions portfolio, including nuclear services (Westinghouse).
The company's large-scale and development expertise has made it a key power partner of leading AI companies. Brookfield Renewable is building 10.5 gigawatts of renewable power for Microsoft through 2030 to support its cloud computing and AI operations. It's the largest-ever corporate power purchase agreement (nearly eight times the prior record). Brookfield also signed the largest-ever hydropower supply deal with Google (up to 3 GW). Meanwhile, Westinghouse, which it co-owns with leading uranium producer Cameco, is building at least $80 billion in new nuclear reactors under a strategic partnership with the U.S. Government to support the development of AI.
Brookfield's robust growth drivers support its expectation of delivering more than 10% annual growth in its funds from operations (FFO) per share through 2031. Analysts expect the company will approach nearly 20% annual FFO per share growth over the next three years. That should give it ample power to continue increasing its 3.6%-yielding dividend. Brookfield's combination of income and growth could enable the leading renewable energy dividend stock to generate robust total returns.
Multiple AI-fueled growth drivers
Brookfield Infrastructure is the infrastructure-focused sibling of Brookfield Renewable. The company invests in utilities, energy midstream, transportation, and data infrastructure assets.
The global infrastructure operator is investing across the AI infrastructure value chain. For example, it partnered with Intel to help the semiconductor giant fund the construction of two U.S. semiconductor foundries. Brookfield also has a global data center platform that's building new facilities to support the needs of large technology companies and other customers. It's also investing capital to deploy Bloom Energy's advanced fuel cell technology to help power large-scale data centers. Meanwhile, it recently acquired a South Korean industrial gas business, the leading supplier of industrial gases to semiconductor manufacturers in that country. Additionally, Brookfield's utility and energy midstream businesses should benefit from rising demand for electricity and natural gas.
Brookfield Infrastructure's multiple growth drivers support its expectation of delivering FFO per share growth of more than 10% annually. The company believes that fading headwinds from interest rates and foreign exchange fluctuations, along with the completion of several strategic enhancements, could drive FFO per share growth closer to 14% in the coming years. That should enable the company to continue increasing its 3.7%-yielding dividend and support robust total returns.
Building the backbone infrastructure to support AI
Much of the discussion around AI centers on which LLM developer or semiconductor stock will lead the way. That's causing many investors to miss the generational opportunity to invest in the backbone infrastructure needed to support AI's adoption. Brookfield Infrastructure and Brookfield Renewable are leaders in building the infrastructure AI needs to thrive. That's why I continue to load up on shares of these underappreciated AI plays. I've got a few of my own that form the bedrock of my portfolio that you might want to consider yourself.
A sturdy foundation
Warren Buffett has said that "the best thing" for the average person is to buy shares in an S&P 500 index fund. Boring? Maybe. But sometimes boring is good and boring works.
The odds are good that any given fund manager will not beat the S&P 500 in any given year. Based on the S&P Global's SPIVA U.S. Scorecard for 2024, 97% of all domestic funds in the U.S. underperformed the S&P 500.
That's why the bedrock of my own portfolio is the State Street SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (NYSEMKT: SPY). Like most ETFs, this one does what it says; it holds positions in all 500 stocks on the S&P 500 index, which are the top 500 leading U.S.-listed companies.
The index is one of the three benchmarks of the American economy, along with the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the Nasdaq Composite. The SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust follows the S&P 500 closely, returning the same roughly 10% average that the index it follows has done since the fund's inception in 1993.
The ETF's expense ratio is a minuscule 0.0945%, making it very cheap to hold. It's a great set-it-and-forget-it sort of play. You buy it and let it do its thing. Because, in the long term, the S&P 500 and the broader American stock market have always bounced back from any recession or market crash they've experienced.
It's very hard to beat the S&P 500, so, as the old saying goes, if you can't beat them, join them.
The nuclear option
The two other stocks I plan to hold for the extreme long term are both related to my bullishness on nuclear energy over the next quarter-century. Nuclear is really the only way to reliably generate the amount of electricity we need (especially to power data centers for artificial intelligence) without burning incredible quantities of fossil fuels.
The U.S. Department of Energy has set a goal to triple America's nuclear production by 2050. Several other countries are rapidly expanding their own nuclear reactor fleets as well, including India, China, Turkey, Russia, Japan, and South Korea. In all, there are 70 reactors under construction around the world right now, with another 115 planned.
All those reactors need uranium, and the largest non-state-owned uranium miner is Canada's Cameco (NYSE: CCJ). In 2025, it produced 164 million pounds of uranium, 15% of all the world's production last year. Its only rivals are Kazatomprom, Kazakhstan's state-run uranium miner, and Russia's Uranium One, which produced 20% and 14% of the world's total in 2025, respectively.
But Cameco has a competitive edge that its Russian and Kazakhstan rivals don't. Cameco's leading assets include the McArthur River/Key Lake mine, which is the world's largest high-grade uranium mine, and Cigar Lake, which is one of the world's highest-grade uranium mines.
McArthur River's life span is projected to extend to 2044, and it currently costs Cameco $20.31 in Canadian dollars or $14.84 in U.S. dollars to extract one pound of uranium from it. Cigar Lake has enough uranium to continue producing until 2036, and it costs Cameco CA$21.12 to extract one pound of uranium from it, or $15.43.
The company also owns 40% of JV Inkai as a joint venture. The Kazakhstan mine has far lower-grade uranium and produces significantly less than the company's two Canadian assets, but it can keep producing until 2045, and it only costs Cameco CA$12.62 or $9.22 to extract a pound of uranium.
With uranium currently trading at a spot price of about $90 and being the only energy resource to increase in value over the last year aside from heating oil, it doesn't cost Cameco much to generate revenue. Cameco also operates in almost every part of the nuclear fuel cycle as it owns a refinery, a conversion facility, and a fuel manufacturing plant.
Finally, Cameco owns 49% of Westinghouse as part of a joint venture with Brookfield Asset Management (NYSE: BAM). Westinghouse produces the AP1000, which is the most advanced nuclear reactor commercially available right now. And last year, the U.S. government pledged $80 billion toward buying Westinghouse reactors.
In all, Cameco looks great; for 2025, revenue grew 11% over 2024, and adjusted net earnings grew 114%. For a company operating in the rather capital-intensive mining industry, Cameco still manages a 27.8% gross margin, a 17.8% operating margin, and a 16.9% net profit margin.
Despite a recent dip, the company is up 852% over the past five years, and I don't plan on selling anytime soon.

Oklo Inc. OKLO has put a big marker down in the fast-growing “AI power” conversation with a landmark agreement tied to Meta Platforms’ META expanding data center footprint. The catch is that the story remains long-dated, with multiple regulatory, construction and fuel milestones still ahead.
Why this Deal Matters in the AI Power Narrative
The Meta Platforms agreement is positioned as a turning point for OKLO’s long-term narrative, centered on developing a 1.2-gigawatt advanced nuclear campus in Ohio to support the social media giant’s AI and data center growth. The project would use multiple Aurora reactor units and reflects OKLO’s strategy of selling power and heat directly to customers through long-term agreements, instead of simply licensing its reactor technology.
More importantly, the agreement brings a credible partner at a time when OKLO is still pre-revenue and proving itself through project milestones rather than earnings. This is important because the company’s valuation depends largely on future expectations, making the stock sensitive to any signs of delays or execution missteps.
Project Shape, Timing, and What to Watch Next
The agreement outlines clear timeline markers: pre-construction activities and site studies are expected to begin in 2026, initial power delivery is targeted around 2030, and capacity is expected to expand toward the full 1.2 gigawatts by 2034 using multiple Aurora units. The campus is planned for Pike County, OH, on more than 200 acres owned by OKLO that was formerly a Department of Energy (DOE) site redeveloped with support from the Southern Ohio Diversification Initiative.
Although the timeline stretches out over several years, these milestones still matter. They can build partner confidence, support discussions with future customers, and shape funding plans. Since each Aurora unit is designed to generate between 15 and 75 megawatts — scalable to 100 megawatts or more — the phased approach turns a large, long-term vision into measurable, step-by-step progress.
How the Prepayment Mechanism can Change Financing Optics
A notable feature of the META agreement is a prepayment mechanism designed to provide upfront funding for early development and fuel procurement. In practice, that structure can improve capital visibility by aligning some early project cash needs with a committed partner, reducing a portion of financing uncertainty during the pre-construction phase. That is particularly relevant given the company’s broader emphasis on securing long-lead equipment and fuel components, and using liquidity to support execution.
What this Does Not Fix in the Next Two Years
The near-term bottlenecks remain intact. OKLO’s first project, Aurora-INL, is not allowed to sell power to the grid under current DOE authorization, and full commercial power sales are only expected after Nuclear Regulatory Commission approval, with initial operations targeted for late 2027 to early 2028. As a result, meaningful revenue is unlikely before at least a couple of years.
The setup is also a patience test for investors, with ongoing spending ahead of revenue and negative earnings estimates through 2026. Management maintained 2025 guidance for cash used in operating activities of $65 to $80 million, reinforcing that expenses are still running ahead of inflows.

A Second Trend Line Beyond Power Sales Radioisotopes
OKLO is also building a second commercialization path via radioisotopes. The company recently signed an agreement with the U.S. DOE to support the design, construction and operation of a Radioisotope Pilot Facility under the department’s Reactor Pilot Program, led by its subsidiary Atomic Alchemy. The goal is to strengthen domestic production of critical medical radioisotopes used in cancer care and research.
The company is taking a step-by-step approach. It plans to focus first on building and operating the pilot facility before moving toward larger commercial plants. While this strategy helps reduce risk and build experience over time, it also means that any isotope revenue expected in early 2026 will likely be small and unlikely to significantly impact near-term financial results.
What the Short Horizon Signals Say About Timing Risk
OKLO carries a Zacks Rank #4 (Sell) on the short-term, one- to three-month horizon, reflecting estimate revision dynamics and the emphasis on schedule and execution risk. The timeline depends on multiple interdependent milestones through 2026, including DOE agreements, licensing steps and construction-related progress, where any delay can push operations beyond current targets and defer revenue.

Fuel adds another layer of timing risk. While OKLO has secured five metric tons of recovered EBR-II fuel for its first plant and is advancing DOE approvals for fuel fabrication at Idaho, high-assay low-enriched uranium pricing and supply remain uncertain, and additional options such as access to up to 20 metric tons of government plutonium are still exploratory.
Closing Framework Credibility Catalysts Versus Execution Gates
The upside anchors are clear: a multi-pronged fuel strategy and the META agreement’s credibility boost, including the prepayment mechanism that supports early development and fuel procurement. Those elements can help OKLO maintain momentum with customers and suppliers as it moves from concept to construction.
The execution gates are just as central: regulatory approvals, construction milestones across multiple tracks, and clearer fuel supply and pricing that can still drive delays and volatility. In that context, investors may also compare the broader energy landscape through companies such as Constellation Energy CEG and Cameco Corporation CCJ, both considered among industry peers, as the market weighs near-term earnings visibility against long-duration infrastructure narratives.
