Cameco Corporation provides uranium for the generation of electricity. It operates through Uranium, Fuel Services, Westinghouse segments. The Uranium segment is involved in the exploration for, mining, and milling, purchase, and sale of uranium concentrate. The Fuel Services segment engages in the refining, conversion, and fabrication of uranium concentrate, as well as the purchase and sale of conversion services. This segment also produces CANDU reactor fuel bundles and other reactor components. The company offers nuclear fuel processing services. The Westinghouse segment engages in the manufacture of nuclear reactor technology original equipment. This segment provides products and services to commercial utilities and government agencies; and outage and maintenance services, engineering support, instrumentation and controls equipment, plant modification, and components and parts to nuclear reactors. It sells its uranium and fuel services to nuclear utilities in the Americas, Europe, and Asia. Cameco Corporation was incorporated in 1987 and is headquartered in Saskatoon, Canada.

Reason 1: The Fed
The biggest reason, and the reason why most stocks are going up today, is glaringly obvious. Out in Wyoming, at the Jackson Hole Federal Reserve conference, Fed Chair Jerome Powell just told investors that because of a weakening economic outlook and tepid job growth, the Fed might decide to lower interest rates in September as investors, and President Donald Trump, have been asking it to do.
Interest rate hikes are generally considered good for stocks and, well, Cameco is a stock.
Reason 2: Wall Street
Two different analysts have raised their price targets for Cameco stock over the past two days. According to StreetInsider.com, Raymond James hiked Cameco stock to 120 Canadian dollars yesterday, and today, National Bank Financial hiked it to CA$115.
Neither bank gave us much of an explanation for hiking, but I think we can guess.
Reason 3: Uranium price
Uranium prices that plummeted in late June have been gradually rising ever since, and are currently up $3 per pound from their July 18 low. This is of course good news for a uranium stock like Cameco.
Is Cameco stock a buy?
Still, both prices and demand have to grow a lot to make this stock a buy. Cameco shares currently cost some 47 times trailing free cash flow, and their price-to-earnings ratio is an astounding 80.
To me, that sounds kind of expensive, but apparently I'm in the minority on that view today.

Energy Fuels (NYSEMKT: UUUU) stock collapsed Tuesday, falling 17.4% through 11:45 a.m. ET on no obvious bad news. To the contrary, the latest news for uranium stocks in general (and presumably for Energy Fuels in particular) looks rather good.
According to the energy experts at OilPrice.com, "Uranium prices and nuclear equities are surging as tight supply, underbuilt production pipelines, and policy-driven nuclear revival create a structural supply deficit."

So what's ailing Energy Fuels stock today?
Uranium prices still strong
The most obvious likely culprit for a decline in stock price at a company that mines uranium would be a decline in the price of uranium. But in fact, according to data from TradingEconomics, uranium prices are doing just fine.
True, after approaching a recent high near $80 per pound back in June, uranium prices "corrected" sharply lower in early July. But the price of uranium has slowly been moving back up ever since and recently passed $73 a pound.
Regardless, shares of not just Energy Fuels but also of rivals Cameco (NYSE: CCJ) and Denison Mines (NYSEMKT: DNN) are down today -- though the others aren't down as much as Energy Fuels stock is.
Is Energy Fuels stock a buy?
Also noteworthy is that Denison in particular received price target hikes from multiple investment banks yesterday. This is curious because, while both Denison and Energy Fuels stocks are currently unprofitable, analysts polled by S&P Global Market Intelligence think Energy Fuels stock will turn profitable next year, but Denison isn't expected to earn a profit again until 2029.
Call me a traditionalist for preferring profitable stocks over unprofitable stocks, but that kind of makes me think today's unexplained sell-off could make this a good time to buy some Energy Fuels stock.

· US Debt will Soar: The Congressional Budget Office estimates that the BBB will add $3.4 trillion to the US deficit over the next decade. With the deficit set to soar, the US will have no choice but to fully embrace AI and “grow the country out of debt.” (More on that later)
· Solar Subsidies will be Removed: The loss of solar subsidies in the BBB will lead to a natural market force toward cheap and clean nuclear power.
US Seeks to Remove Nuclear Red Tape
US Energy Secretary Chris Wright sent nuclear-related stocks soaring Monday after he posted to social media a message that read:
“Let’s talk nuclear energy: the energy-dense, always-ON energy source that we’ve smothered for decades with regulatory red tape. Under the Trump administration, you’re going to truly see the launch of the nuclear renaissance. The coming years will be HUGE.”
Several uranium, energy storage, and nuclear-related stocks spiked on heavy trading volume after the news, including Cameco (CCJ), Centrus Energy (LEU), NuScale Power (SMR), and Eos Energy Enterprises (EOSE). Nuclear fusion is often called the "holy grail" of energy because it promises a virtually limitless, clean, and safe source of power by replicating the process that fuels the stars. However, no one has yet made fusion power commercially viable.

Nuclear energy is emerging as a crucial solution for meeting the growing global demand for electricity while supporting the transition to cleaner energy sources. Unlike solar and wind, which are dependent on weather conditions, nuclear power offers a steady and reliable supply of clean energy around the clock.
On May 23, 2025, the U.S. President issued four executive orders designed to strengthen the nation's nuclear energy sector. These directives outline initiatives to modernize regulatory frameworks, accelerate the testing and approval of nuclear reactors, utilize nuclear technology for national security purposes, and grow the domestic nuclear industrial base. The goal is to scale up America’s nuclear energy capacity from nearly 100 gigawatts (“GW”) in 2024 to 400 GW by 2050.
With this increasing importance, nuclear energy-related stocks, such as Entergy Corporation ETR, Dominion Energy D and Constellation Energy Corporation CEG, are becoming attractive investment options. Unlike other clean energy sources that struggle with intermittency, nuclear power plants deliver a steady output, operating continuously except during scheduled maintenance periods.
According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), with strong government support and alignment with the Net Zero Emissions by 2050 Scenario, annual investment in nuclear energy is projected to surpass $150 billion by 2030, up from the current $65 billion. Installed nuclear capacity could exceed 1,000 gigawatts by 2050. The IEA also notes that large nuclear reactors will account for most of the production, while small modular reactors (SMRs) are expected to see substantial growth as well.
The demand for clean electricity is rapidly increasing, driven by factors such as industrial expansion, urbanization, rising global temperatures that boost air conditioner use, the development of large artificial intelligence-powered data centers, and the growing adoption of electric vehicles. Compared to other clean energy sources, nuclear power plants require significantly less land to generate the same amount of electricity. While all conventional energy sources produce waste during electricity generation, nuclear energy stands out as the only one that systematically manages and safely stores its waste.
Electricity is produced from nuclear power plants through nuclear fission. Nuclear fuel, primarily uranium, undergoes fission, a process where atoms split, releasing a tremendous amount of heat energy. A continuous supply of uranium is quite essential for the production of electricity from nuclear power plants. Companies like Cameco Corporation CCJ and BHP Group Limited BHP produce large volumes of uranium needed for power plants.

This may seem like a peculiar argument, but hear me out. Nuclear power will grow precisely because policymakers will continue to favor investment in renewables. The argument rests on the idea that atomic power complements renewable power.
It is complementary in three significant ways. First, they both use zero-carbon emission fuels. Second, they both enable energy security, as they don't rely on fossil fuels obtained elsewhere. Third, and most importantly, nuclear helps compensate for the fundamental intermittency of renewable energy.

To illustrate the last point, here are U.S. Department of Energy figures for capacity factor (the power a plant produces compared to its maximum potential during a period without interruption). Nuclear power is so reliable that it produced 18% of the electricity in the United States in 2023 despite accounting for only 8% of the country's total capacity.

The company has upstream operations (exploration and production) and downstream (refining and marketing) segments, providing it with resilience across oil price cycles.
The company has used its windfall in recent years to bolster its balance sheet and return a substantial amount of capital to shareholders through dividends and stock buybacks. In the past 12 months, Chevron spent $11.8 billion on dividends and another $16.1 billion buying back stock.
Recent years have been less favorable to the company, as oil prices have declined slowly. However, geopolitical tensions, including the recent Israel-Iran conflict, could potentially lead to higher oil prices.
Income investors could earn a yield of 4.6%, and the company has increased its payout annually for 38 consecutive years, showing how the balanced business is resilient amid oil and gas price fluctuations.
2. Enterprise Products Partners
Enterprise Products Partners (NYSE: EPD) is a midstream master limited partnership (MLP) with an extensive network of pipelines, storage facilities, and processing assets that cover oil, natural gas, and natural gas liquids (NGLs). Its contract and fee-based revenue model provides strong visibility into future cash flows and helps shield the company from fluctuations in commodity prices to some extent.
Enterprise has a solid track record of consistent distribution growth, currently yielding over 6.9%. This is supported by conservative payout ratios and low leverage. Its vertically integrated structure allows for margin capture across various segments, and ongoing expansion projects in petrochemicals and export terminals serve as additional growth catalysts.
3. Cameco
Cameco (NYSE: CCJ) is one of the world's largest uranium producers and is a pure play for investors looking to bet on the nuclear renaissance. As countries seek to address growing energy demand while lowering carbon options, demand for nuclear energy is rising and supply remains tight due to years of underinvestment and production cuts.
Cameco benefits from long-term contracts with price escalation clauses and owns stakes in high-grade assets, such as Cigar Lake and McArthur River. Its joint venture with Brookfield Renewable Partners in Westinghouse adds vertical integration into fuel services and reactor tech.
What makes Cameco appealing are its long-term contracts with utility companies, which provide it with a reliable buyer and a visible source of future revenue. Cameco has arrangements to provide an average of 28 million pounds of uranium annually through 2029.
With spot uranium prices rising and geopolitical concerns limiting supply (especially from Russia and Kazakhstan), Cameco is positioned for strong margin expansion. It also has properties in Saskatchewan and Australia with significant uranium deposits, allowing it to expand as demand for nuclear energy grows.
4. Constellation Energy
Constellation Energy (NASDAQ: CEG) is the largest U.S. producer of carbon-free electricity, primarily through its nuclear facilities, which account for over 86% of its output.
Constellation has predictable earnings through capacity markets and long-term power contracts, and it operates with relatively low fuel and operational costs. Its clean energy profile appeals to clean energy investors, and it's exploring hydrogen and storage as long-term growth avenues. It also benefits from policy tailwinds and rising demand for reliable, clean power from AI and data centers.
Last year, Microsoft entered into a power purchase agreement with Constellation, committing to buy nuclear energy to power its data centers. This month, Meta Platforms agreed to purchase 1.1 gigawatts of power from Constellation's clean energy center in Illinois.
Constellation is well-positioned as a top carbon-free energy provider, and more technology companies could turn to it to power their growing needs. Its large nuclear plant footprint and renewable focus position it well for the next several decades.
5. NuScale Power
NuScale Power (NYSE: SMR) is a speculative but potentially transformational play on nuclear energy via small modular reactors (SMRs). Unlike traditional large-scale plants, SMRs offer the potential for lower upfront costs, faster build times, and improved scalability, making them attractive for utilities and off-grid applications.
NuScale is developing an SMR power station in Romania, targeting a launch date of 2029. Not only that, but it now has two design approvals certified by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, giving it first-mover advantage, which should help it as it looks to lock in contracts with prospective customers.
That said, project delays, cost overruns, and its cash burn remain a concern, especially since it is years away from commercial operations. This all makes NuScale a risky stock. But if it executes, its SMR technology could play a pivotal role in supplying much-needed energy in the coming decades.

Shares of Cameco (NYSE: CCJ) have been on a rocket ride over the past three months or so, gaining a massive 50%-plus in a very short period of time. What does Cameco do?
At its core, Cameco is a miner. Mining is a very capital-intensive business, given the cost of finding good places to build a mine, getting the approval to build a mine, building and operating a mine, and then, ultimately, returning the mine site back to its original state once the mine is closed. Complicating things a great deal is the fact that most miners produce commodity products, so their revenue and earnings are heavily impacted by often volatile commodity prices.

Cameco is no different from other miners in this regard. But the uranium it mines does set it apart from the pack in some important ways. For starters, uranium is the fuel that powers nuclear power plants. So Cameco's fortunes are tightly tied to the nuclear power industry's ups and downs. Given the high-profile nature of nuclear plant disasters, that can be a very negative thing at times. And the bad times tend to linger until the fear over the risks of nuclear power disasters subsides.
That said, nuclear power happens to produce energy without producing greenhouse gases. In other words, it is a source of clean energy. Nuclear power is also capable of running at full nameplate capacity on an ongoing basis, making it a great complement to intermittent power sources like solar and wind. Given the ongoing shift in the world toward cleaner power options, nuclear power is seeing something of a renaissance. (The fact that the last nuclear power plant meltdown happened in 2011, quite some time ago at this point, is also a big help.)
Cameco tries hard to be reliable
At the same time, Cameco can't avoid the fact that the price of the commodity it sells has a major impact on the way Wall Street views its business. With nuclear power seen as an increasingly important power source, uranium prices have benefited. And so, too, has Cameco's stock price. The tie between uranium prices and Cameco's stock price will likely never change, so a significant drop in uranium prices would lead to a big drop in Cameco's stock price, too.
If you buy Cameco stock today you need to believe that the nuclear power industry is set to expand over the long term. And, thus, demand for uranium will remain strong over the long term and keep uranium prices high. If you don't go in with that belief you could be let down over the short term as commodity prices wax and wane, just like any other commodity, over shorter periods of time.
However, there is something important about Cameco's business model that is worth highlighting. It doesn't sell uranium at the spot price, it signs long-term supply contracts. This helps to soften the blow from uranium price declines, though it can also limit the upside when uranium prices rise.
And Cameco recently bought a non-controlling stake in Westinghouse, a service provider to the nuclear power industry. The revenues this business generates should be more consistent over time than uranium prices. In other words, Cameco is doing what it can to ensure its business is resilient to the typical ups and downs of a commodity business.
Think carefully before buying Cameco
The truth is, Cameco probably won't be a great fit for most investors. You can get indirect exposure to nuclear power via an investment in a reliable dividend-paying utility like Southern that will expose you to much less risk.
However, if you think nuclear power is set to grow in the years ahead, Cameco is a solid "pick-and-shovel" play on the sector. Just go in knowing that volatility is the norm, with 50% price increases coming along with the risk of similar price drawdowns.

President Donald Trump, committed to facilitating a rebirth of America's nuclear energy industry, issued four executive orders in late May. From expediting the licensing process for nuclear reactors to examining the potential for nuclear fuel recycling, Trump addressed a range of issues that had hindered the industry's growth for years.
With enthusiasm for the nuclear energy industry surging through Washington, many are eager to find stocks that can benefit from the industry's apparent renaissance. For these investors, NuScale Power (NYSE: SMR), Constellation Energy (NASDAQ: CEG), and Cameco (NYSE: CCJ) look like smart choices to power their portfolios.

NuScale Power has a large advantage with its small modular reactors
Long gone are the days of massive nuclear power plants that require enormous capital investments and take years to construct. Nowadays, companies like NuScale Power are developing small modular reactors (SMRs) that offer a variety of advantages over conventional nuclear power plants.
For one, SMRs require considerably smaller footprints, making them more attractive to project developers, which can scale these reactors to their individual site's needs. And SMRs have improved safety profiles including the ability to shut down and self-cool indefinitely, unlike traditional nuclear power plants. Among other advantages, NuScale's SMRs are built in a factory, which helps to keep costs down and expedite project development.
With $491 million in cash and no debt, the company is on strong financial footing, an appealing situation for those looking to balance a quality growth stock that's not rife with risk. To state its competitive advantage over other SMR providers, NuScale Power says that it's the only near-term deployable SMR company with design approval from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
Shoot for the stars with utility powerhouse Constellation Energy
While Constellation Energy's portfolio includes about 10 gigawatts (GWs) of natural gas, oil, hydroelectric, wind, and solar generation assets, it's nuclear energy that represents the lion's share of its generating capacity -- about 21 GWs, or enough power to meet the demands of 16 million homes.
The company's nuclear assets caught the attention of Microsoft in 2024, and the two inked a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) that will see the tech company purchase power in support of its data centers, generated from the restart of operations at the Three Mile Island plant, now dubbed the Crane Clean Energy Center.
More recently, Meta Platforms showed its enthusiasm for nuclear energy as a power source for its growing AI-related operations. Earlier this month, Meta and Constellation signed a 20-year PPA for nuclear energy that will be generated at the Clinton Clean Energy Center in Illinois.
The deals that Constellation inked with Microsoft and Meta are merely two small examples of the vast investments that AI companies are making to support their data centers. And it wouldn't be all that surprising if Constellation Energy announces similar deals with AI leaders that recognize the allure of nuclear energy as a route to meeting the steep power demands that AI computing requires.
Fuel your portfolio with uranium producer Cameo
Interest in developing new nuclear power plants is great, but it means little if there's no uranium to fuel said power plants. That's where Cameco comes in. The company is the largest uranium producer based on market capitalization found on American stock exchanges.
Operating throughout the nuclear fuel value chain, Cameco is involved in exploratory activities as well as uranium refining and fuel manufacturing services.
And with one of President Trump's executive orders stating specifically that "It is the policy of the United States to expedite and promote to the fullest possible extent the production and operation of nuclear energy..." Cameco clearly stands to benefit as the pathway for developing uranium assets, and other potential regulatory hurdles may be less burdensome now.
In 2024, Cameco reported uranium production of 23.4 million pounds, and it has ample resources to ensure production for years to come. As of the end of 2024, for example, the company reported 457 million pounds of proven and probable reserves.
It's also worth noting that Cameco has the potential to profit from the growth of SMR producers like Kairos Power and TerraPower that use high-assay low-enriched uranium (HALEU) as a fuel source. Cameco also has a 49% ownership stake in Global Laser Enrichment, which has the ability to produce HALEU.
