TSP Capital Triples Western Union Equity Ownership

The Western Union Company WU reported first-quarter 2026 adjusted earnings per share (EPS) of 25 cents, which missed the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 37.5%. The bottom line declined 39% year over year.
Total revenues were $982.7 million, which marginally declined from the prior-year period's level. However, the top line beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 1.7%.
Higher operating expenses, along with a sharp decline in operating income and margin compression across both segments, weighed on first-quarter earnings. Lower fixed cost coverage in owned locations, vendor incentive timing and FX movement also affected the bottom line. The downside was partly offset by resilient revenues and strong growth in the Branded Digital and Travel Money business expansion.

Q1 Performance of WU
Adjusted operating margin fell 600 bps to 13%, caused by higher North America expenses, foreign currency headwinds, and weaker fixed cost coverage in owned locations.
Total expenses rose 7% year over year to $859.7 million. The year-over-year increase resulted from the higher cost of services and SG&A expenses.
Operating income of $123 million declined 31% year over year and lagged our estimate of $169 million.
Segment Analysis of WU
The Consumer Money Transfer segment recorded revenues of $845.4 million in the first quarter, which slipped 3.2% year over year. The figure exceeded both the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $836.2 million and our model estimates of $838.6 million.
Operating income declined 31% year over year to $110.5 million. The metric missed the consensus mark of $144.8 million and our estimate of $141.5 million. The operating income margin declined 500 bps year over year to 13%.
Transactions within the CMT segment, on an adjusted basis excluding Iraq, dipped 6% year over year. There was 21% transaction growth in the Branded Digital business. Branded Digital revenues, which accounted for 32% of CMT’s first-quarter revenues, rose 9% on a reported basis and 6% on an adjusted basis.
The Consumer Services segment’s revenues rose 24% year over year on a reported basis and 33% on an adjusted basis, reaching $137.3 million in the quarter. Growth was driven by the expansion of the Travel Money business and increased revenues from the bill payment segment. The metric beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $130.9 million.
Operating income totaled $16.2 million, which decreased 40% year over year. The metric missed the consensus mark as well as our estimate. The operating income margin declined 1,200 bps year over year to 12%.

Western Union exited the first quarter with cash and cash equivalents of $909.2 million, which decreased from the 2025-end level of $1.2 billion. Total assets of $8.1 billion declined from $8.3 billion at 2025-end.

Total stockholders’ equity declined to $910.5 million from $957.8 million at the end of 2025.

(RTTNews) - While reporting financial results for the first quarter on Friday, Western Union Co. (WU) reaffirmed its earnings, adjusted earnings and revenue growth guidance for the full-year 2026.
For fiscal 2026, the company continues to project earnings in the range of $1.50 to $1.60 per share and adjusted earnings in the range of $1.75 to $1.85 per share on revenue growth of 5 to 8 percent, with adjusted revenue growth of 6 to 9 percent.
The company noted that the guidance assumes no material changes in macroeconomic conditions, including changes in immigration policies, foreign currencies, Argentina inflation, or any prolonged impact or escalations of the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.
In Friday's pre-market trading, WU is trading on the NYSE at $8.80, down $0.54 or 5.74 percent.

This value represents a 40.00% increase compared to the same quarter last year. Zacks Investment Research reports that the 2026 Price to Earnings ratio for NMR is 10.02 vs. an industry ratio of 16.90.

Key Points
Given the recent pullback in the crypto market, every top Layer-1 blockchain network is now trading at a substantial discount.
After nearly a decade of being the market leader, Ethereum is no longer growing as quickly as other Layer-1 blockchains.
Solana has the best chance of toppling Ethereum, due to its rapid growth in DeFi.
Ethereum (CRYPTO: ETH) may be down more than 20% in 2026, but so is just about every other Layer-1 blockchain network. Solana (CRYPTO: SOL) is down 27%, Cardano (CRYPTO: ADA) is down 21%, and Avalanche (CRYPTO: AVAX) is down 22%.
That leads to a tough question for crypto investors: Should they continue to put their faith in Ethereum, or should they move their money into one of these top Ethereum competitors and hope for a rebound? Here's a look at a few Ethereum rivals.

Solana
With a market cap of $50 billion, Solana has emerged as the cream of the crop of top Ethereum rivals. While it has never lived up to its billing as a potential "Ethereum killer," it continues to display enormous promise. It's rapidly evolving from a blockchain best known for meme coins into something much more.
Most importantly, Solana has displayed newfound strength in decentralized finance (DeFi). Already, Solana has surpassed Ethereum in terms of monthly trading volume on its decentralized exchanges. And it now ranks second only to Ethereum in terms of Total Value Locked (TVL), which is arguably the most important metric for measuring overall DeFi strength.
Solana is also fast supplanting Ethereum as the go-to blockchain for new stablecoin launches. In October, for example, Western Union launched a new Solana-based dollar stablecoin that will make it easier for its customers to send money internationally.
At the same time, Solana's blockchain ecosystem is showing signs of rapid growth. According to a report last October by 21Shares, Solana's blockchain ecosystem generated nearly $3 billion in revenue over the most recent 12-month period.
The only problem, of course, is that Solana's price hasn't kept up with its rapid growth. At a current price of $89, Solana trades at a remarkable 70% discount to its all-time high of $294 in January 2025. From my perspective, that makes Solana wildly undervalued. What has really changed over the past 12 months?
What about the other Ethereum competitors?
While both Cardano and Avalanche have shown promise over the past five years, it's time for investors to forget about them. Avalanche is now down a head-spinning 94% from its all-time high in 2021. And it's not much better for Cardano, which is down 92% from its all-time high in 2021.
From my perspective, what was once a crowded field has narrowed down to just two main competitors: Ethereum and Solana. It's the longtime market leader versus the upstart.
If forced to pick between the two, my current lean is toward Solana. It's simply growing faster than Ethereum right now. If Ethereum were the one Layer-1 blockchain network you needed to have in your portfolio over the past decade, Solana may be the one Layer-1 blockchain network you need to have in your portfolio over the next decade.
