Western Union To Present At Bernstein Strategic Decision Conference; Webcast At 9:00 AM ET

Fidelity National Information Services, Inc. FIS reported first-quarter 2025 adjusted earnings per share (EPS) of $1.21, which beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 0.8% and came within the management’s expected range of $1.17-$1.22. The bottom line advanced 11% year over year. (See the Zacks Earnings Calendar to stay ahead of market-making news.)
Revenues amounted to $2.532 billion, which improved 3% year over year and surpassed management’s projected range of $2.485-$2.510 billion. The top line surpassed the consensus mark by 1.1%.
The quarterly results gained momentum from strength in the Capital Market Solutions segment, which posted 8% revenue growth and a 90-bps EBITDA margin improvement, driven by strong recurring revenues. A decline in selling, general and administrative (SG&A) expenses also contributed to the upside. However, the upside was partly offset by rising cost of revenues and pressure on the Banking Solutions unit due to incurrence of higher license and termination fee revenues in the prior-year quarter.

Q1 Performance
The cost of revenues increased 6% year over year to $1.7 billion in the quarter under review. SG&A expenses of $558 million declined 2.6% year over year but came higher than our estimate of $514.8 million. Net interest expenses of $80 million increased 3.9% year over year but was lower than our estimate of $85 million.
Adjusted EBITDA was $956 million, which tumbled 17.3% year over year but beat our estimate of $950.9 million. Adjusted EBITDA margin deteriorated 142 basis points (bps) year over year to 37.8%.
Segmental Update
Revenues from the Banking Solutions unit totaled $1.72 billion, which grew 2% year over year in the first quarter. The metric outpaced the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $1.71 billion and our estimate of $1.69 billion. The segment’s results were aided by higher recurring revenues, partially offset increased license and termination fee revenues in the prior-year quarter. Adjusted EBITDA margin deteriorated 379 bps year over year to 40.1%.
The Capital Market Solutions segment’s revenues advanced 8% year over year to $764 million, higher than the consensus mark of $756.4 million and our estimate of $755.4 million. Strong recurring and non-recurring revenue growth benefited the metric. Adjusted EBITDA margin of 48.3% improved 90 bps year over year on the back of improved operating leverage and high-margin license revenues.
The Corporate and Other segment recorded revenues of $50 million in the quarter under review, which dropped 36% year over year. The metric beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $49.6 million and matched our estimate. Adjusted EBITDA loss was $99 million.
Financial Update (As of March 31, 2025)
Fidelity National exited the first quarter with cash and cash equivalents of $805 million, which declined 3.5% from the 2024-end level. Total assets of $32.8 billion decreased 2.8% from the figure at 2024-end.
Long-term debt, excluding current portion, amounted to $8.7 billion. The figure dropped 10.6% from the figure as of Dec. 31, 2024. The current portion of long-term debt totaled $2.3 billion. Short-term borrowings amounted to $1.1 billion at the first-quarter end.
Total equity of $15.1 billion dropped 4% from the 2024-end level.
Fidelity National generated net cash from operations of $457 million in the first quarter, which more than doubled year over year. Adjusted free cash flows of $368 million increased nearly four-fold year over year.
Share Repurchase & Dividend Update
Fidelity National rewarded $670 million to its shareholders to the tune of share buybacks worth $450 million and dividends of $220 million in the first quarter.
Management reaffirmed its target of conducting share buybacks of around $1.2 billion in 2025. It intends to maintain quarterly dividend payments such that dividend per share growth stays in line with the growth in adjusted EPS.

Management forecasts revenues to be between $2.560 billion and $2.585 billion. Adjusted EBITDA is projected to be in the range of $1.020-$1.035 billion. Adjusted EPS is estimated to be between $1.34 and $1.38. Adjusted EBITDA margin is projected within 39.8-40%.
2025 Guidance Reaffirmed
Revenues are expected to be within $10.435-$10.495 billion for 2025. Adjusted revenues are estimated to witness year-over-year growth of 4.6-5.2%. The Banking Solutions and Capital Market Solutions units are estimated to record year-over-year increases of 3.7-4.4% and 6.5-7%, respectively.
Adjusted EBITDA is projected to be between $4.305 billion and $4.335 billion in 2025, the mid-point of which implies 4.4% growth from the 2024 figure. Adjusted EBITDA margin is anticipated to be around 41.3%.
Adjusted EPS is expected to be between $5.70 and $5.80, the mid-point of which suggests 10.2% growth from the 2024 figure.

Other Business Services Sector Releases
Of the other Business Services sector industry players that have reported March-quarter results so far, the bottom-line results of Mastercard Incorporated MA, The Western Union Company WU and Visa Inc. V beat the respective Zacks Consensus Estimate.
Mastercard reported first-quarter 2025 adjusted earnings of $3.73 per share, which surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 4.5%. The bottom line improved 13% year over year. Net revenues of the leading technology company in the global payments industry advanced 14% year over year to $7.3 billion. The top line beat the consensus mark by 1.8%. Gross dollar volume (representing the aggregated dollar amount of purchases made and cash disbursements obtained from Mastercard-branded cards) increased 9% on a local-currency basis to $2.4 trillion.
Cross-border volumes (a key measure that tracks spending on cards beyond the issuing country) rose 15% on a local currency basis. Switched transactions, which indicate the number of times a company’s products have been used to facilitate transactions, improved 9% year over year to 40.1 billion. Value-added services and solutions’ net revenues of $2.8 billion advanced 16% year over year. Mastercard’s clients issued 3.5 billion Mastercard and Maestro-branded cards as of March 31, 2025.
Western Union’s first-quarter 2025 adjusted EPS of 41 cents beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 2.5%. However, the bottom line declined 8.9% year over year. Total revenues were $983.6 million, which fell 6% on a reported basis. Additionally, the top line missed the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 0.8%. The adjusted operating margin decreased 100 bps year over year to 19% due to a fall in contributions from Iraq.
Operating income of $177.4 million declined 8% year over year and lagged our estimate of $185.2 million. The Consumer Money Transfer segment’s revenues fell 9% to $872.9 million. Operating income was $159.3 million, which fell 15% year over year and also missed the consensus estimate. Transactions within the CMT segment grew 3% year over year. Branded Digital revenues, which accounted for 28% of CMT’s first-quarter revenues, improved 7% on a reported basis and 8% on an adjusted basis.
Visa reported second-quarter fiscal 2025 EPS of $2.76, which outpaced the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $2.68 by 3%. The bottom line increased 10% year over year. Net revenues of $9.6 billion improved 9.3% year over year. The top line beat the consensus mark by 0.3%. Visa's payments volume increased 8% year over year on a constant-dollar basis in the fiscal second quarter. Processed transactions (implying transactions processed by Visa) grew 9% year over year to 60.7 billion.
On a constant-dollar basis, the cross-border volume of Visa rose 13% year over year. Excluding transactions within Europe, its cross-border volume (that boosts a company’s international transaction revenues) also jumped 13% year over year on a constant-dollar basis. Service revenues (depending on the payment volume in the previous quarter) increased 9% year over year to $4.4 billion in the March quarter. Data processing revenues of $4.7 billion grew 10.4% year over year.

The growth runway in remittance payments
The remittance market (companies that act as intermediaries in facilitating international money transfers) has gotten a shake-up as digital smartphone-first disrupters reach scale in countries around the globe. Remitly has led the way, now having 7.8 million active customers as of the fourth quarter of 2024, growing 32% year over year.
It is stealing customers from Western Union (NYSE: WU) due to its lower fees and ease of use compared to legacy systems. With smart marketing campaigns to key immigrant groups in the United States, such as Indians and Mexicans, Remitly has been able to grow quickly in the last decade.
Growth should remain strong for the rest of the decade, too. The company has around 3% market share of remittances, processing $15.4 billion in volume just in the fourth quarter of last year.
Its positioning versus Western Union will not change anytime soon, meaning that it has a path to get to 6%, 10%, and eventually a higher share of the remittance market over the next 10 years. Growing volumes sent through the platform directly correlate with revenue growth, although fees as a percentage of volume have declined as the business has scaled up.
Remittances are a growing market, giving Remitly a double tailwind of market-share gains and sector growth that has propelled revenue up 130% cumulatively in the last three years. Western Union's revenue is down 15% over the same time period.
Improving profitability at scale
Historically, the company has not generated much in profits. Its fantastic unit economics are masked by heavy spending on technology rollouts and marketing.
Take its $1.26 billion in 2024 revenue and subtract the transaction and customer support expenses, and the gross margin approaches 60%, even though it posted a slight operating loss last year.
Over $300 million spent on marketing and close to $300 million spent on technology and development expenses keep Remitly's profits low, but it should see operating leverage once it reaches scale. The company is already seeing progress on this front, with Remitly's operating loss approaching breakeven in the fourth quarter last year.
Within the next five years, I expect Remitly's 60% gross margins -- which have expanded over time, by the way -- to lead to bottom-line profit margins approaching 20%. The company will always have overhead, marketing, and development expenses, but these unit economics should create fat profit figures once the business reaches global scale.

Why Remitly is an intelligent stock to buy right now
Remitly stock is attractive right now because investors are underrating the true profit potential of this business at its current market cap of $4.1 billion.
Assuming it can keep up its revenue growth rate, the company should clear well over $3 billion in annual sales five years from now. A 20% profit margin on $3 billion in revenue means $600 million in annual earnings for Remitly, with plenty of growth likely still left in the tank.

XMLV's Holdings Could Mean 13% Gain Potential

(RTTNews) - Western Union Co (WU) released earnings for first quarter that decreased from the same period last year in line with the Street estimates.
The company's earnings came in at $123.5 million, or $0.36 per share. This compares with $142.7 million, or $0.41 per share, last year.
Excluding items, Western Union Co reported adjusted earnings of $139.8 million or $0.41 per share for the period.
Analysts on average had expected the company to earn $0.41 per share. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
The company's revenue for the period fell 6.2% to $983.6 million from $1.049 billion last year.

Western Union Co Q1 Profit Drops, Inline With Estimates

The WisdomTree U.S. SmallCap Quality Dividend Growth ETF (DGRS) made its debut on 07/25/2013, and is a smart beta exchange traded fund that provides broad exposure to the Style Box - Small Cap Blend category of the market.
What Are Smart Beta ETFs?
The ETF industry has traditionally been dominated by products based on market capitalization weighted indexes that are designed to represent the market or a particular segment of the market.
Market cap weighted indexes work great for investors who believe in market efficiency. They provide a low-cost, convenient and transparent way of replicating market returns.
There are some investors, though, who think it's possible to beat the market with great stock selection; this group likely invests in another class of funds known as smart beta, which track non-cap weighted strategies.
By attempting to pick stocks that have a better chance of risk-return performance, non-cap weighted indexes are based on certain fundamental characteristics, or a combination of such.
Methodologies like equal-weighting, one of the simplest options out there, fundamental weighting, and volatility/momentum based weighting are all choices offered to investors in this space, but not all of them can deliver superior returns.

The fund is sponsored by Wisdomtree. It has amassed assets over $345.49 million, making it one of the average sized ETFs in the Style Box - Small Cap Blend. Before fees and expenses, this particular fund seeks to match the performance of the WisdomTree U.S. SmallCap Quality Dividend Growth Index.
The WisdomTree U.S. SmallCap Quality Dividend Growth Index is a fundamentally weighted index that consists of the small-capitalization segment of dividend-paying stocks with growth characteristics.
Cost & Other Expenses
Investors should also pay attention to an ETF's expense ratio. Lower cost products will produce better results than those with a higher cost, assuming all other metrics remain the same.
Operating expenses on an annual basis are 0.38% for DGRS, making it on par with most peer products in the space.
DGRS's 12-month trailing dividend yield is 2.76%.
Sector Exposure and Top Holdings
Even though ETFs offer diversified exposure that minimizes single stock risk, investors should also look at the actual holdings inside the fund. Luckily, most ETFs are very transparent products that disclose their holdings on a daily basis.
For DGRS, it has heaviest allocation in the Industrials sector --about 25.30% of the portfolio --while Financials and Consumer Discretionary round out the top three.
Taking into account individual holdings, Patterson Companies Inc (PDCO) accounts for about 2.40% of the fund's total assets, followed by Western Union Co/the (WU) and Manpower Inc (MAN).
DGRS's top 10 holdings account for about 17.87% of its total assets under management.
Performance and Risk
So far this year, DGRS has lost about -16.78%, and is down about -6.42% in the last one year (as of 04/17/2025). During this past 52-week period, the fund has traded between $40.64 and $56.61.
DGRS has a beta of 1.04 and standard deviation of 21.27% for the trailing three-year period, which makes the fund a medium risk choice in the space. With about 219 holdings, it effectively diversifies company-specific risk.
Alternatives
WisdomTree U.S. SmallCap Quality Dividend Growth ETF is a reasonable option for investors seeking to outperform the Style Box - Small Cap Blend segment of the market. However, there are other ETFs in the space which investors could consider.
IShares Core Dividend Growth ETF (DGRO) tracks Morningstar US Dividend Growth Index and the Vanguard Dividend Appreciation ETF (VIG) tracks NASDAQ US Dividend Achievers Select Index. IShares Core Dividend Growth ETF has $28.40 billion in assets, Vanguard Dividend Appreciation ETF has $81.40 billion. DGRO has an expense ratio of 0.08% and VIG charges 0.05%.
Investors looking for cheaper and lower-risk options should consider traditional market cap weighted ETFs that aim to match the returns of the Style Box - Small Cap Blend.

Is WisdomTree U.S. SmallCap Quality Dividend Growth ETF (DGRS) a Strong ETF Right Now?

Looking at the universe of stocks we cover at Dividend Channel, in trading on Tuesday, shares of Western Union Co (Symbol: WU) were yielding above the 9% mark based on its quarterly dividend (annualized to $0.94), with the stock changing hands as low as $10.38 on the day. Dividends are particularly important for investors to consider, because historically speaking dividends have provided a considerable share of the stock market's total return. To illustrate, suppose for example you purchased shares of the iShares Russell 3000 ETF (IWV) back on 5/31/2000 — you would have paid $78.27 per share. Fast forward to 5/31/2012 and each share was worth $77.79 on that date, a loss of $0.48 or 0.6% decrease over twelve years. But now consider that you collected a whopping $10.77 per share in dividends over the same period, increasing your return to 13.15%. Even with dividends reinvested, that only amounts to an average annual total return of about 1.0%; so by comparison collecting a yield above 9% would appear considerably attractive if that yield is sustainable. Western Union Co (Symbol: WU) is a member of the Russell 3000, giving it special status as one of the largest 3000 companies on the U.S. stock markets.
In general, dividend amounts are not always predictable and tend to follow the ups and downs of profitability at each company. Western Union (WU) Passes Through 9% Yield Mark

Opinions will always differ, but our current economic environment seems rather uncertain to me, with tariffs, tariff wars, the threat of inflation, and a lot of investors with stock market jitters. So if you're looking to invest in stocks, I suggest taking a close look at dividend payers.
Why dividend-paying stocks? Well, because to some degree, they've been prequalified. Sure, growth stocks are exciting, but they can be more volatile than slower growers, and they can be significantly overvalued, too, and ripe for a pullback.

But a company generally has to grow enough to become somewhat established with fairly dependable cash generation before its management will commit to paying a regular dividend. After all, no company wants to end up having to reduce or eliminate a dividend.
Here are four dividend payers to consider for your portfolio -- whether you have $1,000 to spend or $100,000.
1. Constellation Brands
Let's start with Constellation Brands (NYSE: STZ). One reason to consider it is that its stock appears undervalued at recent levels. Its recent forward-looking price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio of 12, for example, is well below the five-year average of 19. Its dividend, meanwhile, recently yielded 2.25%. That's not a huge dividend yield, but it's not nothing, either, and it's growing -- by an annual average of 6% over the past five years.
Constellation Brands is in the business of making and selling alcoholic beverages, primarily in the U.S., Mexico, New Zealand, and Italy. Its brands include Corona, Modelo, Robert Mondavi, High West, and Casa Noble.
Some are worried about the company's prospects due to tariffs and trade wars, but none other than Warren Buffett's company, Berkshire Hathaway, has been a buyer of the stock recently.
2. Western Union
Western Union (NYSE: WU) is a familiar name, facilitating fund transfers across more than 200 nations and working with more than 130 currencies. It's connected to billions of bank accounts and millions of digital wallets and payment cards.
Western Union may not be the first fintech stock you think about, but it's busy in that realm, and sports a fat dividend yield -- recently 8.7%. The dividend hasn't been growing briskly, but its current level is quite generous, and even if it were halved, it would still be higher than many payouts.
Western Union is not a slam-dunk buy, though, in part due to our uncertain economy. Much of its business involves helping immigrants in developed nations send money back to families in less developed nations. If many end up moving back home, the company could suffer.
So if you're drawn to this big dividend yield, consider buying, but plan to keep an eye on the company's developments. The company's forward P/E was recently 6, lower than its five-year average of 8.5.
3. The Campbell's Company
The Campbell's Company (NASDAQ: CPB) recently changed its name from Campbell Soup to reflect its broader range of offerings that includes brands such as Campbell's, Cape Cod, Chunky, Goldfish, Kettle Brand, Lance, Late July, Pace, Pacific Foods, Pepperidge Farm, Prego, Rao's, Snack Factory pretzel crisps, Snyder's of Hanover, Swanson, and V8. Indeed, the company has shifted much of its focus from soups to snacks.
Campbell's dividend recently yielded 4%, and that payout has been increased at an annual rate of 2% over the past five years. That's not a fast growth rate, but if you're starting at 4%, it's not so bad. The company's forward P/E was recently near 13, a bit lower than its five-year average of 15.5.
4. PepsiCo
PepsiCo (NASDAQ: PEP) is another stalwart company to consider. While many people think of it only as a beverage business, it's very much a snack business, too, with brands such as Lay's, Doritos, Cheetos, and Quaker alongside Pepsi-Cola, Gatorade, Mountain Dew, and SodaStream. PepsiCo has just announced a new acquisition of the prebiotic soda brand Poppi.
PepsiCo's stock recently sported a dividend yield of 3.6%, and its payout has been growing at an average annual rate of 7% over the past five years. Its forward P/E was recently 18, well below its five-year average near 23, suggesting a bargain price.
PepsiCo is a reasonably defensive business as well. If the economy falters, many may put off buying new cars or dishwashers, but they'll likely keep buying sodas and potato chips.
These are not the only dividend payers worth considering. You might also want to check out some dividend-oriented ETFs. You don't need much money to start investing in dividend payers -- $100 or 1,000 is plenty.
