The ongoing Nasdaq rally is being powered by solid earnings reports by a slew of big tech giants and the enthusiasm surrounding artificial intelligence (AI), especially generative AI. Over the past month, the Nasdaq Composite has gained 5.8%, while it has jumped 10.3% year to date, after surging 28.6% in 2024 to record its best year since 2020.
Tech stocks took a beating after Trump announced sweeping tariffs in April. One of the standout players in this space is NVIDIA Corporation NVDA, which has become a key driver of innovation and interest in generative AI. So far this year, NVIDIA’s stock has risen by 29.4%.
NVIDIA’s success has been pushing other big tech companies to invest more aggressively in generative AI as well. Simultaneously, the growing popularity of smart devices is increasing demand for advanced computing and machine learning technologies. PayPal Taps New Markets: Will Interoperability Fuel Its Growth?

There are several highly anticipated financial technology, or fintech, IPOs that are likely to occur within the next few years. One of them is financial data network operator Plaid, which connects financial institutions and applications, and was former a Visa (NYSE: V) acquisition target.
Plaid securely connects financial institutions and applications. For example, when I wanted to link my checking account to make mortgage payments at a different bank, Plaid was the tool that was used to connect them. When I wanted to verify income deposits into my bank account for loan approval purposes, it was Plaid that made it possible. These are just a few examples, and there are many others, such as connecting with your bank account to set up secure, recurring payments.

Plaid's traction has been impressive. Over half of all U.S. adults have used the platform, and from a business perspective, offering Plaid's seamless connectivity results in 25% higher sign-ups. The company makes its money primarily through volume-based subscription plans sold to business customers.
At this time, we don't know Plaid's exact IPO timeline. But the company has made it clear that an IPO is in the future, so here's what investors should keep in mind and what we know so far.
Plaid's failed merger and recent funding activity
Plaid was founded in 2013 and has grown impressively, connecting with well over 11,000 financial institutions in the U.S. and elsewhere. In 2020, the company agreed to be acquired by Visa for $5.3 billion, but the deal ended up being cancelled because the Department of Justice sued to block it over antitrust concerns.
More recently, Plaid raised $575 million in fresh capital in April of this year at a $6.1 billion valuation. This is less than half of its peak valuation in a 2021 funding round but is still more than the $5.3 billion Visa had been prepared to pay. And to be clear, it's very common for private tech companies to command lower valuations in today's market environment than in the 2021 zero-interest days.
Will Plaid go public or SPAC in 2025?
The recent fundraising round should take care of Plaid's near-term capital needs and makes an IPO in 2025 highly unlikely. At the time of the raise, a company spokesperson specifically said that Plaid won't go public in 2025. Of course, that isn't a guarantee that we won't see an IPO, and if the tech IPO market and valuations heat up, it's still entirely possible.
It's also worth noting that Plaid doesn't necessarily need to use a traditional IPO to go public. Special-purpose acquisition companies, or SPACs, are making a comeback this year. Through the end of the second quarter, 71 of these blank-check companies have listed on the public markets in search of merger targets, more than in all of 2024, and this can be a desirable way to go public and raise lots of capital at the same time.
Finally, just because management has said that an IPO won't happen this year doesn't mean something -- either a traditional IPO or SPAC merger -- won't be announced by the end of the year. The short version is that Plaid is likely to go public within the next few years, but the timeline remains uncertain -- for now.

Will Plaid SPAC or IPO in 2025?

In a busy week that includes quarterly results from Tesla TSLA and Alphabet GOOGL, Capital One (COF) is sharing the spotlight after crushing its Q2 earnings expectations on Tuesday.
With Visa V and Mastercard MA set to release their reports next week, Capital One has set the bar for these major credit card and payment solution providers.
That said, let’s see if it’s time to buy Capital One stock, with it noteworthy that COF is up more than +20% in 2025 and has now soared nearly +100% in the last three years to impressively outperform the broader market, Visa, and Mastercard’s gains of over +60%.

Capital One’s Strong Q2 Results
Setting Capital One apart from credit card giants like Visa and Mastercard is the company’s focus on consumer and commercial lending. Further boosting Capital One’s consumer and lending endeavors was the completed acquisition of Discover Financial Services in May, which added $2 billion in revenue during Q2 and also expanded its credit card and payment networks footprint.
Overall, Capital One’s Q2 sales soared 31% to $12.49 billion compared to $9.5 billion a year ago and topped estimates of $12.22 billion. More impressive, Q2 earnings skyrocketed 74% to $5.48 per share from EPS of $3.14 in the prior year quarter. Astonishingly, this crushed the Zacks EPS Consensus of $3.83 by 43%, with it noteworthy that Capital One has now surpassed its bottom-line expectations for four consecutive quarters, posting a very impressive average earnings surprise of 23.02%.
Despite reporting a GAAP net loss of $4.3 billion, due to separate one-time charges from the $35.3 billion acquisition of Discover, other Q2 highlights included Capital One’s credit card loans surging 72% to $269.7 billion while deposits rose 27% to $468.1 billion.

Discover’s Loan Boost
Notably, Capital One acquired $98.3 billion of domestic card loans from Discover with what CFO Andre Young said was a net fair value discount of $220 million. Additionally, Capital One acquired $9.9 billion of personal loans with a net fair value discount of $114 million, along with $106.7 billion of deposits with a net fair value discount of $30 million.
Capital One also acquired $7.9 billion of home loans, which have been marked as held for sale and are now included in its discontinued operations.
Capital One Reconfirms its Full-Year Outlook
Amid the recent Discover acquisition, Capital One still reconfirmed its full-year fiscal 2025 outlook, expecting revenue to increase 36% to $53.29 billion, which came in above the current Zacks Consensus of $52.3 billion. Furthermore, Capital One still expects annual earnings to be up 9% to $15.25 per share, although this was below previous updated expectations of $15.51.
Capital One’s Attractive Valuation
Intriguing to long-term investors is that at 14X forward earnings, Capital One stock still trades nicely beneath the benchmark S&P 500’s 24X. Plus, Capital One trades at an even steeper discount to Visa and Mastercard’s forward earnings multiples of 30X and 34X, respectively.
COF also trades under the optimum level of less than 2X forward sales, while Visa and Mastercard stock trade at more than 17X, with the S&P 500’s average at 5.4X.

Conclusion & Final Thoughts
While Capital One wasn’t able to raise its full-year guidance after crushing earnings expectations, reconfirming its outlook was still a meaningful sign that the Discover acquisition is paying off. For now, Capital One stock lands a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold) and surely offers long-term value to investors at current levels.
That said, more upside (and a buy rating) will likely depend on what is hopefully a positive trend of earnings estimate revisions for FY26, as FY25 EPS estimates are likely to decline in correlation with the company’s guidance coming in below previous updated projections of $15.51 per share, which had risen over the last 30 days.

Mastercard (NYSE:MA) is set to report its second quarter earnings on Thursday, July 31, 2025. Earnings are expected to come in at about $4.02 per share, up almost 11% compared to last year, per consensus estimates, while revenues are projected to grow 14% to $7.95 billion. Growth is likely to be driven by strength in the cross-border transaction volume as well as value-added services. Value added services such as security and fraud protection and digital solutions are also likely to continue to witness strong growth. That said, investors will focus more on Mastercard’s outlook. The global economy could face multiple headwinds in the near term following tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump on major trading partners. The company has $507 billion in current market capitalization. Revenue over the last twelve months was $29 billion, and it was operationally profitable, with $17 billion in operating profits and net income of $13 billion. The largest financial company in the world is Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRK.A)(NYSE: BRK.B), with a market cap of more than $1 trillion. Many investors don't realize it, but Berkshire is technically an insurance company at heart -- Warren Buffett built its empire using insurance float from subsidiaries like GEICO and others.

So, as of this writing, Bank of America is the fifth largest financial sector company by market cap and the second largest bank stock. It's likely it will stay this way for at least a little while, as there's a wide gap between Bank of America and the No. 4 (Visa) as well as with the No. 6, fellow big bank Wells Fargo (NYSE: WFC), which has a $260 billion market cap.
How it's going
Bank of America, and most other large bank stocks for that matter, just reported second-quarter results. In general, the numbers looked strong, and here are some key highlights:
Revenue and EPS grew by 4% and 7% year over year, respectively.
Customer deposits grew 5% to $2 trillion. Bank of America has the No. 1 retail deposit market share, and this growth rate was better than most peers.
The bank achieved a 10% return on equity (ROE), which is generally considered to be the threshold of a strong ROE.
Consumer banking added 175,000 net new checking accounts and consumer investment accounts grew by 13% thanks to strong market performance and inflows of capital.
Bank of America has the No. 3 investment banking market share year-to-date.
The company is doing arguably the best of the big banks when it comes to leveraging AI. It has 1,400 AI and machine learning patents, and, just to name one example, its "Ask Merrill" and "Ask Private Bank" AI tools get 23 million interactions per year.
Bank of America spent $5.3 billion on stock buybacks and increased its dividend by 8%.
Net interest yield increased by 3 basis points year over year despite no recent Federal Reserve rate cuts.
Bank of America's net charge-off rate improved by four basis points compared with a year ago.
I'm paying close attention to numbers like the net interest margin in the persistent high-rate environment, and the bank's NCO rate, which is a great indicator of the financial health of its customers.
Is Bank of America a buy?
The bottom line is Bank of America is an excellent institution, and its management has done a great job of embracing technology. If rates start to fall later this year as many expect, it could provide a nice tailwind for the stock, and the banking industry as a whole.
In fact, there could be several positive tailwinds in the next few years, including a looser regulatory environment, the surge in IPO and M&A activity we're seeing, and potential lower corporate tax rates. With Bank of America shares trading for less than 13 times forward earnings and a historically attractive valuation of less than 1.3 times book value, Bank of America could be an excellent performer over the next few years.

Bank of America Is One of the Largest Financial Companies by Market Cap. But Is It a Buy?

The cryptocurrency rally has been continuing despite a mixed bag of economic data released over the past couple of weeks. The Federal Reserve is likely to keep interest rates unchanged, while uncertainty over the impact of President Donald Trump’s tariffs is again raising concerns over the economy’s future.
Bitcoin (BTC), which hit an all-time high last week, has managed to hold its ground and has surpassed expectations of analysts. The cryptocurrency is on track to hit another new all-time high, and experts believe that it has the potential to surpass $150,000 this year.

Bitcoin Rally Continues
Bitcoin hit an all-time high of $123,153.22 last week, before giving up some of its gains. The cryptocurrency has mostly been hovering around $119,000 since then. Concerns about potential new tariffs and a jump in June inflation caused by existing tariffs led to a slight dip in Bitcoin's value over the past few days.
However, Trump said on Tuesday that trade talks are underway with several countries and more deals will be announced before the Aug. 1 deadline for his tariffs. This came as Trump announced that the United States reached a massive $550 billion trade deal with Japan, just two weeks after threatening with 25% tariffs.
Trump also recently announced trade deals with the Philippines and Indonesia. Meanwhile, a surge in June retail sales suggests that the economy is still on solid ground, which gives the Fed ample reasons to keep interest rates unchanged in its upcoming meeting late this month.
However, market participants are still hopeful that the Federal Reserve will implement two 25 basis point rate cuts this year, which is likely to boost Bitcoin further.

One of the key skills that Federal Realty possesses is on the development and redevelopment front. In fact, it is a fairly active portfolio manager, buying assets that need some love, fixing them up to increase their value and rent-generating capacity, and then selling if a good price can be had. The process is then repeated. This model has worked very well over time, noting that Federal Realty is the only REIT to have achieved Dividend King status.
Now add in an attractive 4.6% dividend yield, which is well above the 1.3% yield of the S&P 500 index (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC) and the 4.1% yield of the average REIT. If you are looking for a large and reliable income stream, Federal Realty should be on your radar today.
2. Visa is a dividend growth machine
Not every dividend investor is looking for a big yield; some are looking for dividend growth. That's where Visa excels, noting that its annualized dividend growth rate over the past decade was a shockingly impressive 17%. More recent growth has been a bit slower, but the dividend growth rates over the one-, three-, and five-year periods are all over 10%. These are the kind of stats that dividend growth investors should love.
Visa is a payment processor. It collects small fees for facilitating billions of transactions with cards that carry its logo. No single fee is very large, but over the vast number of transactions it handles, the figures add up. And, despite its already impressive scale, the business is still growing. In the second quarter of 2025, Visa processed 9% more transactions than it did a year ago, leading to a 9% jump in revenues and a 10% increase in adjusted earnings.
The one problem with Visa stock is that investors are well aware of how attractive the business is today, and the stock's price-to-sales and price-to-earnings ratios are above their five-year averages. That said, neither of these metrics is shockingly above its average, so more aggressive investors focused on dividend growth (the dividend yield is a tiny 0.7% or so) still might want to dive in here, noting that the world continues to move toward digital and card payments.
3. Bank of Nova Scotia is a low-risk and high-yield turnaround
Bank of Nova Scotia, which normally just gets shortened to Scotiabank, is one of the largest banks in Canada. Canada has strict banking regulations that have, effectively, created protected industry positions for the country's largest banks. And that regulation has generally left the largest banks, like Scotiabank, with a conservative ethos.
That's the backdrop for a stock that is offering up an attractively high 5.7% yield. The dividend, meanwhile, has been paid every year since 1833. This is a reliable dividend stock, but it isn't exactly running on all cylinders today.
Scotiabank attempted to differentiate itself by focusing on Central and South America as it looked to expand beyond its Canadian borders. That didn't work out as well as hoped, and it is now revamping its approach, exiting weaker markets, emphasizing stronger markets, and including the U.S. in the mix to a greater degree. This effort is ongoing, making Scotiabank a turnaround story, but it seems to be achieving decent success. Notably, dividend growth was put on pause in 2024, but has resumed again in 2025.
Dividend options for all sorts of investors
The dividend stocks on this list probably won't all be attractive to the same investor. Investors looking for a boring and reliable high yield will likely appreciate Federal Realty. Dividend growth investors should focus on Visa. And turnaround lovers will like Bank of Nova Scotia.
