Space Exploration Technologies (NASDAQ: SPCX) completed its long-awaited initial public offering (IPO) in June. SpaceX stock opened on the Nasdaq at $150, delivering an immediate 11% lift from the offering price of $135. The company ultimately raised about $85.7 billion, far above the previous record set by Saudi Aramco.
In the days that followed, shares of SpaceX continued climbing -- closing the first session near $161 and briefly touching an intraday high of more than $225 shortly thereafter. The initial enthusiasm, however, was fleeting. Subsequent trading sessions came with selling pressure as early momentum faded and valuation questions mounted.

As of this writing (Aug. 17), SpaceX stock has rebounded to its first-day trading range of about $150. This trajectory underscores a familiar pattern among high-profile IPOs: An opening-day pop driven by scarcity and narrative, followed by a period of price consolidation in which reality and expectations start to align.
How do IPO stocks typically perform?
During the past 15 years or so, there have been a number of major technology IPOs that show a consistent pattern of significant drawdowns during the first year as a public company. Across a cohort of roughly 30 companies, the median maximum share price decline within the first 12 months of being public was 54%.
Facebook (now Meta Platforms) experienced a peak-to-trough decline of 54% in its first year as a public company. Uber fell as much as 68%. Airbnb held up better on a relative basis, yet still retreated 39% at its worst point. Even eventual long-term winners such as Shopify and Snowflake endured declines in the mid-50% range before recovering.
These figures are not outliers. Rather, they represent a typical experience for heavily hyped IPO stocks once the initial liquidity event ends and lock-up expirations, earnings scrutiny, and competitive realities take center stage.
Where is SpaceX stock headed over the next year?
Applying the same historical trends to SpaceX stock points to a wide range of plausible outcomes over the next year. Across the cohort mentioned above, the median one-year return from the IPO price stood at negative 9%, while the average return was 14%. The maximum declines, in contrast, represent a worst-case peak-to-trough scenario.
Under the median-return path, shares would finish their first year at about $135. In contrast, the average-return path would propel them closer to $170. In a more severe case that mirrors the historical maximum-drawdown experience, SpaceX stock could temporarily bottom at about $100, or even about $70 if measured from today's levels.
Taken together, these scenarios imply a realistic 12-month trading range between $100 and $170. Even at the lower end of this band, SpaceX would still boast a frothy enterprise value, since the business is still scaling revenue and hemorrhaging cash.
Is SpaceX a good investment right now?
It's important to understand that none of the historical analogies explored above are guaranteed. Markets can and often do reward exceptional execution, and SpaceX's vertical integration featuring regular rocket launches, Starlink growth, and artificial intelligence (AI) ambitions is unique.
In my eyes, a more probable near-term path for SpaceX stock will involve continued volatility as the first major lock-up agreements expire, letting insiders and early investors sell their shares, and the company works to prove that its AI and space-based compute initiatives justify a premium valuation.
Against this backdrop, I think smart investors are better served waiting for a more attractive entry point, rather than buying into momentum at current levels. SpaceX stock has already shown how quickly early gains can evaporate. Patience for a deeper consolidation offers both a lower valuation and a clearer view of whether the underlying business can convert its inspiring narrative into durable free cash flow.

Superinvestors Are Buying While Everyone Else Panics. Here's Who and What

Uber Technologies UBER and Zipline, a leader in drone delivery, have announced a strategic partnership aimed at expanding drone delivery across the United States.
The collaboration will make drone delivery available to millions of Americans through Uber Eats. Initial deployments are expected to begin later this year, allowing customers to receive orders within minutes using Zipline’s autonomous drones. Uber will also make a strategic investment in Zipline. Together, the companies aim to complete 1 million drone deliveries per day by the end of 2029.
Operating across four continents, Zipline completes a delivery every 20 seconds. Over the past decade, it has developed an international logistics network serving more than 5,000 hospitals, helping save over 12,000 lives annually and completing 135 million-plus autonomous flight miles. The company is now introducing its technology and services in the United States, with the aim of delivering essential items within five to 10 minutes.
Zipline has completed more than 2.7 million deliveries involving over 20 million items. Its services have helped reduce traffic and carbon emissions while saving customers time.
Uber is developing a flexible hybrid delivery network that integrates couriers, sidewalk robots and drones, enabling each delivery to use the most suitable transportation method. The partnership combines Zipline’s quiet, fast and precise delivery technology with Uber Eats’ network of millions of customers and hundreds of thousands of small businesses. Both companies intend to accelerate the widespread adoption of drone delivery and provide fast, affordable autonomous services to more consumers.
Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi described the partnership as an opportunity to combine Zipline’s advanced technology with its extensive connections to consumers and local merchants. Khosrowshahi indicated that the collaboration could shape the future of delivery by offering a faster and more sustainable way for people to receive essential items. He also expressed an intention to introduce the technology to additional communities and make autonomous delivery part of everyday life. Zipline co-founder Keller Cliffton noted that technology once considered science fiction was becoming increasingly integrated into daily life.
Drones could transform delivery by reducing delivery times, costs and emissions compared with traditional methods, enabling meals and everyday essentials to reach customers within minutes.Top of Form
On similar lines, last year, Uberentered into a partnership with drone operator Flytrex. The partnership aimed to launch drone delivery on the Uber Eats platform. The partnership resulted in the combination of Flytrex’s proven autonomous drone delivery system and Uber’s global platform and logistics expertise for creating a fully integrated end-to-end experience for speed, safety and scale. With autonomous drones being the future of food delivery, Uber’s move to ink a deal with Flytrex is a prudent one.
Flytrex’s expertise in the autonomous drone food delivery space is evident in the fact that it has completed more than 200,000 deliveries across the United States and operates under FAA-certified safety standards, demonstrating that the drones can sharethe skies with manned aircraft.
The association with Flytrex marked Uber’s return to the field of drone deliveries after 2019, when Uber Eats intended to test delivering food by drone to customers in San Diego and made a few test deliveries in partnership with McDonald's MCD. Uber Eats collaborated on the experiment with Uber Elevate, the company’s aviation division, at that time. However, the testing in partnership with McDonald’s failed to launch commercially.
Ultimately, Uber sold its aviation division to Joby Aviation JOBY in 2020. The acquisition by Joby Aviation resulted in the merger of its electric vertical takeoff and landing technology with Uber’s experience in on-demand mobility services. Joby Aviation is currently quite close to commercializing air taxi services.
UBER’s Share Price Performance, Valuation and Estimates
Shares of UBER have gained in low single digits (% wise) over the past three months. Despite the not-so-impressive performance, UBER’s shares have outperformed the Zacks Internet-Services industry over the same time frame.

As part of the deal, Uber will make a strategic investment in Zipline. The companies aim to reach one million drone deliveries per day by the end of 2029.
Zipline, which operates in four continents, has made more than 2.7 million deliveries of over 20 million items, flying 135 million autonomous miles. Its drones currently serve more than 5,000 hospitals and save an estimated 12,000 lives annually.
"Together, we're shaping the future of delivery by creating a faster, more sustainable way for people to get what they need," Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said.
On the NYSE, shares of Uber Technologies are currently gaining 0.82 percent, changing hands at $76.54.

Uber Partners With Zipline To Expand Drone Delivery

Rivian Automotive (NASDAQ: RIVN) kicked off what could become a string of strong quarterly results as the R2 launch continues to ramp up its production during the back half of 2026. Rivian's second quarter topped Wall Street estimates on the top and bottom lines, and the company posted a record gross profit of nearly $180 million at an 11% gross margin.
Management also raised full-year delivery guidance, narrowed its EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) loss guidance, and lowered capital expenditure expectations. All in all, it was a strong result for the young electric vehicle (EV) maker, but the stock is up only 1% following earnings.

Here are three important things that investors may have overlooked in Rivian's earnings report.
Transparent liquidity
One of the biggest focal points for investors of young EV makers is liquidity, simply because young automakers face heavy capital investment requirements and are still slowly building valuable scale. Rivian exited the second quarter with $5.3 billion in cash and cash equivalents, but really, the company has additional transparency with future liquidity.
More specifically, when including its asset-based revolving credit facility, Rivian ended the second quarter with $5.8 billion in liquidity and added another roughly $1.3 billion in net proceeds from its July follow-on equity offering, bringing the total to nearly $7.2 billion.
Rivian's liquidity figure looks even better when you consider it expects another $1 billion in non-recourse loan capital from Volkswagen and a milestone-based investment from Uber Technologies worth $250 million -- both expected in 2026, bringing Rivian's future liquidity to $8.4 billion.
Lastly, investors also have to consider Rivian's $4.5 billion Department of Energy loan, which is earmarked for developing its second factory in Georgia, another $700 million from Uber, and another $460 million from Volkswagen, all over the next few years. That brings Rivian's expected liquidity up to around $14 billion, a much more reassuring picture for long-term investors.
Demand generation
One aspect of Rivian's second quarter that certainly seemed overlooked was its growing ability to generate demand, driven by growth in both Rivian Spaces and Demo Drives. Rivian's Demo Drive program enables prospective buyers and reservation holders to experience driving Rivian's R1S SUV, R1T truck, and the new R2.
The EV maker ended the second quarter with 43 Rivian Spaces (where demo drives take place), a 39% increase from the prior year, and an even stronger 104% increase in demo drives, which numbered over 57,000 during the second quarter alone. Also improving the user experience were a 26% increase in Rivian Adventure Network Locations and a 37% increase in Rivian Network Chargers -- both can also support demand generation.
Driverless technology
Rivian's driverless vehicle technology often takes a back seat to the company's much-hyped R2 launch and production ramp, the development of its second factory and future R3 model, and its massively valuable joint venture with Volkswagen -- but that could be an oversight. In the medium term, Rivian believes that advanced assisted driving features will be a key differentiator for customers and a driver of market share.
Rivian's Autonomy+ is progressing well, has an encouraging take rate with consumers, and is expected to roll out point-to-point capabilities by the end of this year. Point-to-point is an assisted driving feature that allows the driver to enter an address so Rivian can drive there under the driver's supervision. It's comparable to Tesla's Full-Self Driving (FSD).
What's also often overlooked is Rivian's pathway to its Level 4 autonomous robotaxi. Rivian already boasts over 3.5 million miles of universal hands-free travel across the U.S. and Canada and, as previously mentioned, plans to unveil point-to-point features later this year. Rivian is targeting eyes-off features next year and its L4 robotaxi in 2028.
What it all means
Rivian posted an excellent second quarter with improving metrics nearly across the board. While often overlooked, the company's improving and transparent liquidity provides a cushion against adversity and ever-changing market dynamics, and its demand generation, combined with expanding driverless technology, bodes well for the company's medium-term future. Rivian also continues to separate itself from rival EV maker Lucid Group and is poised to finish 2026 on a strong note.

Uber Technologies (NYSE: UBER) operates the world's largest ride-hailing platform, but its food delivery and commercial freight networks are also very competitive globally. The company is in the early stages of a major transformation as autonomous vehicles and robots complete a growing number of trips on its platform, which will significantly boost its revenue and earnings over the long term.
Uber released its operating results for the second quarter of 2026 (ended June 30) on Aug. 5. In his prepared remarks to shareholders, Chief Executive Officer Dara Khosrowshahi provided an update on the company's autonomous transition. Here's why investors might want to buy Uber stock on the back of his comments.

Uber is betting big on autonomous vehicles
Developing a safe and capable self-driving car might not be the hardest part of succeeding in the autonomous industry. Companies also have to build a platform that customers can use to seamlessly request a ride, and it has to arrive in a timely fashion. Uber has already developed all of the necessary infrastructure to accomplish this, which is why dozens of companies have chosen to plug their autonomous cars and robots into its network.
This arrangement is a win for everyone involved. Uber's autonomous partners get access to its 208 million monthly active customers, so they don't have to build their own platforms from scratch. Uber, on the other hand, gets to keep its asset-light business model by simply taking a cut of every ride facilitated by its platform, without having to spend billions of dollars to develop its own self-driving cars.
Autonomous vehicles are already active on Uber in seven cities, but Khosrowshahi says that could more than double to 15 cities by the end of 2026. He also told shareholders that Uber will deploy around $10 billion over the next few years to help its partners bring their autonomous vehicles to market at scale. You might think that goes against the company's business model as a mere facilitator, but it's a very good idea, and I'll explain why.
During Q2, Uber had $58 billion in gross bookings, which represented the total dollar amount customers spent on its platform for every ride, food order, and commercial delivery. A whopping $25 billion of that total was paid to the platform's 10.2 million drivers, representing the company's single largest cost.
After accounting for other costs, like the money paid forward to restaurants for every food order, Uber was left with $14.2 billion in revenue. Then, after factoring in operating costs like marketing, the company was left with just $2.4 billion in generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) profit.
In other words, Uber pockets a mere fraction of its gross bookings each quarter. If it can eliminate the enormous cost of human drivers, it will instantly grow its revenue and profit even if it doesn't acquire a single additional customer. Of course, some of that money will be paid to the operators of the autonomous vehicles in its network instead, but that expense will probably be far cheaper than human drivers in the long run. Plus, a self-driving car can work around the clock with minimal downtime, so it can also bring in a lot more money.
By funding some of its partners, Uber can speed up the autonomous transition so it can unlock those savings as soon as possible.
Uber's valuation leaves plenty of room for upside
Based on Uber's $55.2 billion in trailing 12-month revenue and its market capitalization of $153 billion as I write this, its stock is trading at a price-to-sales (P/S) ratio of just 2.8, which is a steep discount to its average of 4.1 since going public in 2019.
Uber stock would have to climb by 46% just to match its average P/S ratio, and that doesn't even factor in any future revenue growth. The stock would also have to more than double to match the P/S ratio of the Nasdaq-100 index, which is currently 6.3. Simply put, Uber looks heavily undervalued right now, particularly compared to a basket of America's best technology stocks.
I think Uber is perfectly positioned to be one of the biggest winners of the autonomous driving boom. It's already working with some of the biggest names in the industry, including Alphabet's Waymo, which is completing over 500,000 paid autonomous trips across 11 U.S. cities every single week.
As a result, it might be time to stop thinking about Uber as a ride-hailing company, and start treating it as a potential leader in one of the most valuable technological revolutions of the future.

I Own 5 of the Same Stocks as Bill Ackman. Here's What That Tells Me

(RTTNews) - Uber Technologies Inc. (UBER) said it is expanding its partnership with Pony AI Inc. (Pony.ai), an autonomous driving technology company, to deploy more than 2,000 Pony.ai Robotaxis across Europe, with plans to extend the collaboration to the Middle East.
The partnership will expand beyond the existing commercial service in Zagreb, Croatia, to four additional European cities, with the Zagreb service set to become available on the Uber platform. Details of the rollout will be announced in phases.
Under the agreement, Pony.ai will provide its Level 4 autonomous driving technology and deployment expertise, while Uber will offer customer access through its platform, including booking, payments and support. Local fleet partners will handle day-to-day operations in each market.
Pony.ai currently operates fully driverless Robotaxi services in four major Chinese cities and said it has achieved city-wide breakeven unit economics in multiple markets.
The collaboration builds on a partnership first announced in May 2025. In 2026, the companies partnered with Croatian company Verne to launch Europe's first commercial Robotaxi service in Zagreb, where Verne acts as the local fleet owner and operator.
On Thursday, Uber shares closed up about 1% to $75.88.
