Dutch Bros is expanding its footprint and treats
Dutch Bros is a Pacific Northwest-based drive-thru coffee company that is rapidly growing. In fiscal year 2025, Dutch Bros increased its revenue 27.9% year over year. The company opened 154 new shops across 22 states. Lastly, adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) increased 31.4% compared to the previous year.
Dutch Bros is now developing a hot food menu to attract and retain even more customers. This addition will allow the chain to directly compete with breakfast and coffee staples such as Starbucks and Dunkin'.
The stock hasn't fared well over the past 12 months, though, declining nearly 15%. However, Goldman Sachs just upgraded Dutch Bros from neutral to buy.
Starbucks misses you
Last year was not easy for Starbucks. For the 2025 fiscal year, global comparable-store sales declined by 1%. Consolidated net revenues increased 3%, but operating margin fell precipitously amid the closing of more than 400 stores in North America.
Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol wants his "Back to Starbucks" restructuring plan to reestablish the brand as a pleasant coffee shop where you are welcome to sit and stay. Through menu simplification and in-store remodels, Starbucks has been busy implementing this strategy since late 2024.
The strategy's anticipated effectiveness is reflected in the company's 2026 guidance. Starbucks expects comparable-store sales growth of 3% or more, along with a slight improvement in margins.
Starbucks is also opening between 600 and 650 new coffeehouses globally this year. The stock rose 19% thus far in 2026. Its forward P/E ratio of 43 means Starbucks could be slightly overvalued.
What's the tea? Starbucks or Dutch Bros?
Ultimately, both stocks are showing bullish signs, but for different reasons. The winner depends on whether you are primarily a growth investor or a value investor.
For the growth investor, Dutch Bros is quickly opening new stores, and its financials are improving. With the stock down over 15% year to date, its price is becoming more attractive to long-term investors.
Starbucks is better suited to value investors, as it's already a large global company that pays a dividend. It's also likely to grow only modestly in the coming years. Starbucks' turnaround strategy should keep the company relevant and strong for years to come.
Depending on your goals, both stocks are solid choices.

It has been about a month since the last earnings report for McDonald's (MCD). Shares have lost about 2.5% in that time frame, underperforming the S&P 500.

McDonald's reported fourth-quarter 2025 results, with earnings and revenues beating the Zacks Consensus Estimate. The top and bottom lines increased on a year-over-year basis.
McDonald’s results reflected solid systemwide momentum, supported by comparable-sales growth, accelerated restaurant expansion and strong engagement across markets.
Management emphasized that value leadership, impactful marketing and menu innovation remained central to performance, with initiatives like McValue, global campaigns and new product launches driving customer engagement.
MCD’s Q4 Earnings & Revenue Discussion
In fourth-quarter 2025, McDonald's reported adjusted earnings per share (EPS) of $3.12, beating the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $3.05. It reported an adjusted EPS of $2.83 in the prior-year quarter.
Quarterly net revenues of $7 billion beat the consensus mark of $6.85 billion. Additionally, the top line rose 10% year over year.
At company-operated restaurants, sales were $2.54 billion, up 10% year over year. Sales at franchise-operated restaurants amounted to $4.31 billion, which increased 9% year over year.
Moreover, Other revenues rose 35% year over year to $162 million. Our model predicted sales by company-operated restaurants to rise 10.5%, while franchise-operated restaurants were expected to increase 3.4% from the prior-year levels.
McDonald's Comps Details
In the quarter under discussion, global comps rose 5.7% compared with the 0.4% rise reported in the prior-year quarter. Our estimate was a 3.7% increase year over year.

The United States: In the fourth quarter, segmental comps rose 6.8% against a 1.4% decline registered in the prior-year quarter. The company's comparable sales for the quarter were aided by positive check growth. Our model estimated the U.S. comps to increase 2.9%.
International Operated Markets: Segmental comps jumped 5.2% compared with the 0.1% increase reported in the year-ago quarter. The rise was driven by positive comparable sales across the U.K., Germany and Australia. We anticipated an increase of 4.7% from the year-ago levels.
International Developmental Licensed Segment: Segmental comparable sales registered a 4.5% increase compared with a 4.1% increase reported in the prior-year quarter. Japan led the growth in positive comparable sales, with all geographic regions also reporting increases.

Chipotle Bets on Menu Innovation and Loyalty: Can It Drive Traffic?

The retail giant is winning investor approval amid hopes that the worst of its sales slowdown is in the rearview mirror and optimism for newly appointed CEO Michael Fiddelke.

But even when factoring in Target's recent run-up, the dividend stock remains down more than 25% in the last three years and over 50% from its all-time high.
Here's how investors should approach the red-hot stock, and if it's a good buy in March.
A prolonged slowdown for Target
Target had badly underperformed the broader market in recent years for good reasons. The company's sales have been declining, and its operating margins have yet to return to pre-pandemic levels.
Target badly overestimated consumer demand during the pandemic, poorly managed its supply chain, and struggled to adapt to pullbacks in consumer spending. Since Target can't compete with Walmart or Costco Wholesale on price and value, it relies on a more discretionary product mix and foot traffic.
When Target is at its best, it provides a relatively affordable and enjoyable in-store shopping experience -- such as grabbing an in-store Starbucks beverage and taking advantage of exclusive partnerships that shoppers can't find at value-first outlets. But when consumer budgets are strained, cheap thrills can lose their appeal.
Target's bold plans to return to growth
Before stepping down as CEO, Brian Cornell, who led the company for more than a decade, was focused on store improvements, boosting foot traffic, and leaning into the "Tarzhay" spirit, which makes shopping fun rather than routine.
New CEO Michael Fiddelke is following in Cornell's footsteps by implementing an aggressive strategy to get Target's mojo back, with plans to open more than 30 stores this fiscal year, complete more than 130 full-store remodels, and spend 25% more on capital expenditures than in fiscal 2025.
Although Target's stores drove 97.6% of order fulfillment in fiscal 2025, digitally originated sales made up 20.6% of total sales. That's more than even the pandemic years of fiscal 2020 and fiscal 2021 -- showing that Target is winning with in-store pickup and drive-up, especially through mobile orders.
Target is investing in brand marketing, technology, and artificial intelligence through ongoing investments rather than one-time costs. Target also realized $200 million in savings due to headcount reductions at its headquarters and field team changes. So the company is clearly prioritizing a push toward efficiency and productivity.
Fiddelke also recognizes the importance of the Target Circle loyalty program, as Target Circle members spent three times more on average than non-members, and Target Circle 360 members who get unlimited same-day delivery spend seven times more. In addition to higher spending, these loyal customers help Target determine which promotions and exclusive partnerships to pursue.
A reliable value stock with a high yield
Target's strategy may take some time to pay off. The company is guiding for just 2% year-over-year net sales growth and $7.50 to $8.50 in adjusted earnings per share compared to $7.57 in fiscal 2025, $8.86 in fiscal 2024, and $8.94 in fiscal 2023. So while fiscal 2025 could end up being the worst of Target's multiyear turnaround, the company is still a long way away from returning to its pre-pandemic growth rate.
With fairly weak guidance and a still unproven turnaround, investors may be wondering why Target is up so much in a few months. The answer likely has to do with expectations.
The market hates uncertainty. And with a new CEO and a clear game plan for returning to growth (albeit slowly), some investors may be willing to pay a higher price for Target.
Target is trading at 15.1 times the midpoint of its fiscal 2026 guidance -- which is right around its 10-year median P/E of 15.3. Whereas before its recent run-up, Target was extremely discounted.
Last June, Target announced its 54th consecutive annual dividend increase -- boosting the quarterly dividend to $1.14 per share or $4.56 per year. Target is one of just 57 companies that have increased their dividends for at least 50 consecutive years -- known as Dividend Kings. Based on earnings guidance for $7.50 to $8.50 per share, Target can easily support its dividend from its operations rather than relying on debt. And with a yield of 3.8%, Target has a considerably higher yield than many other Dividend Kings.
Target remains a reasonable buy
Heading into 2026, Target was so beaten down that mediocre results and guidance were enough to spark a rally. Target is still a decent buy, but it's more fairly valued now.
Lower interest rates tend to boost consumer spending and economic growth, but the labor market is showing signs of weakness. Throw in the inflationary effects of higher oil prices, and the economic backdrop isn't exactly great for retailers in 2026.
Still, the stock could be a good buy for long-term income investors, but only those who believe Target's in-store shopping experience is a significant differentiator compared to other retailers.

In the United States, the average customer visited McDonald’s 10.5 times in the 12 months prior to joining the loyalty program, while visits increased to 26 times in the 12 months following enrollment. For example, McDonald's Corp. reported solid guest traffic performance in the fourth quarter of 2025. Global comparable sales increased 5.7%, supported by positive guest counts and higher average checks, with U.S. comparable sales rising 6.8%. How Starbucks’ Traffic Trends Compare With Peers
Customer traffic trends across the restaurant and beverage industry remain uneven, with companies relying on different levers to drive visits. Compared with peers, Starbucks is now beginning to show improving transaction momentum after a period of softer demand.
For example, McDonald's Corporation MCD reported solid guest traffic performance in the fourth quarter of 2025. Global comparable sales increased 5.7%, supported by positive guest counts and higher average checks, with U.S. comparable sales rising 6.8%. Management attributed the strength to value-focused offerings, large-scale marketing campaigns and menu innovation, all of which helped drive steady customer visits despite a challenging consumer environment.
Meanwhile, Dutch Bros Inc. BROS, a fast-growing beverage chain, continues to deliver strong transaction-driven growth. The company reported 7.7% system same-shop sales growth in the fourth quarter of 2025, fueled by 5.4% transaction growth, reflecting strong demand for beverage innovation and increasing adoption of its Dutch Rewards loyalty program.
Against this backdrop, Starbucks’ return to positive transaction growth stands out because it follows eight consecutive quarters of declining U.S. transactions. While McDonald’s and Dutch Bros have maintained relatively steady traffic trends through value offerings, innovation and loyalty engagement, Starbucks’ recent improvement suggests its operational reset and service-focused initiatives may be starting to stabilize store visits.
