Its operating cash flow surged 40% year over year to $2,538 million for the quarter, driven by higher selling prices and sales volumes.
NTR generates substantial cash flows and has a strong balance sheet, enabling it to finance its strategic growth investment, pay down debt and drive shareholder value. The company expects to maintain the momentum in the second half, backed by higher sales volumes and prices and strong retail earnings. It is taking strategic measures to drive cash flows, including working capital optimization and review of non-core assets.
As part of this move, the company has agreed to sell its 50% equity interest in Argentina-based nitrogen producer, Profertil S.A. The sale of the Profertil stake, which will allow NTR to focus better on its core assets and geographies, will further enhance its quality of earnings and cash flow.
Among its peers, The Mosaic Company MOS generated an operating cash flow $610 million and a free cash flow of $305 million in the second quarter of 2025. Mosaic’s operating cash flow fell roughly 28% year over year, hurt by reduced customer prepayments and increased working capital. Mosaic expects to generate stronger cash flow in the second half of 2025, allowing debt reductions and shareholder returns through dividends and buybacks.
CF Industries Holdings, Inc.’s CF operating cash flow increased roughly 18% year over year to $563 million in the second quarter. CF Industries’ cash flow for the first half also increased roughly 25% from the year-ago period to $1,149 million. CF Industries benefited from the Blue Point joint venture (JV) in the second quarter as capital contributions from its JV partners surpassed the project's capital expenditures.

NTR’s second-quarter and first-half 2025 potash sales volumes reached record highs, driven by favorable potash affordability and robust consumption in North America and major offshore markets. It has raised potash sales volume guidance to 13.9-14.5 million tons, driven by anticipated higher global demand.
NTR should also gain from acquisitions and increased adoption of its digital platform. It continues to expand its footprint in Brazil through acquisitions. It is expected to continue pursuing targeted opportunities in its core markets. The company expects to utilize part of its free cash flow for incremental growth investments, including tuck-in acquisitions in the retail business in 2025.

POSCO PKX has signed a non-binding Heads of Agreement (HoA) with JSW Steel to explore setting up a 6 million tons per annum (MTPA) integrated steel plant in India. The leading steelmakers from South Korea and India joined forces to combine POSCO’s advanced steelmaking technology with JSW’s strong presence in the Indian market.
The HoA lays out the framework for a proposed strategic 50:50 joint venture. The companies have agreed to undertake a detailed feasibility study to decide the plant’s location, investment structure and resource requirements. Aimed at combining POSCO’s advanced technology with JSW’s large-scale operational capabilities, the move will boost India’s self-reliance agenda.

POSCO intends to support the industrial growth and the partnership’s alignment with India’s self-reliance vision. Eastman Partners With Huafon to Build New Yarn Facility in China

Steel Dynamics, Inc. STLD has agreed to acquire the remaining 55% equity interest in New Process Steel, L.P. It has entered into a definitive agreement with New Process Steel for the transaction, which is subject to customary closing conditions and receipt of regulatory approvals.
New Process Steel is a prominent metal and supply-chain solutions company, headquartered in Houston, TX, with an employee base of approximately 1,275 individuals. It has a long-standing relationship as a significant customer of Steel Dynamics and is currently the latter’s single largest flat roll steel customer. New Process Steel’s high-quality standards, along with a strong customer base, will benefit Steel Dynamics gain more exposure in value-added manufacturing solutions, while also focusing on its legacy flat rolled steel solutions.
The strategic move will result in Steel Dynamics acquiring two manufacturing locations in Mexico and four in the United States, two of which are located at its Butler and Columbus Flat Roll Steel units.
STLD stock has gained 12.4% over the past year against the industry’s 14.7% decline.

The company expects trade uncertainties and tax impacts to mitigate. It remains hopeful that the interest rate environment will improve, unfairly traded imports will decline and the manufacturing sector will keep growing in the United States.
