Palantir stock has enjoyed abnormally high returns throughout the artificial intelligence (AI) revolution thanks to its impressive penetration across the public and private sectors.
Over the last few years, Palantir stock has risen following an earnings report.
While this would suggest the stock is poised for more near-term gains, a long-term view of historical trends indicates what could be in store for investors who chase Palantir's current momentum.
Earnings season has arrived, and as usual, growth investors have their eyes on all things related to artificial intelligence (AI). On Nov. 3, data analytics specialist Palantir Technologies (NASDAQ: PLTR) will publish financial and operating results for the third quarter.
It's been almost exactly three years since OpenAI commercially launched ChatGPT, igniting the AI revolution as we know it. In that time frame, shares of Palantir have gone absolutely parabolic -- soaring by nearly 2,400%, handily topping both the S&P 500 (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC) and Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQINDEX: ^IXIC).

Why is Palantir stock rising?
At its core, Palantir developed a host of AI-powered software suites -- dubbed Foundry, Gotham, and Apollo. Together, these tools comprise the company's Artificial Intelligence Platform (AIP), which has become one of the core pieces of software infrastructure deployed by both government agencies and large private enterprises.
Over the last three years, Palantir has proven that it can compete head-to-head with direct competitors like C3.ai, as well as larger incumbent software vendors such as Salesforce and SAP.
Just this year alone, Palantir has won a number of high-profile contracts in the public sector. Most notably, the company recently won a deal with the U.S. Army worth up to $10 billion over the next 10 years -- providing Palantir with an enviable degree of revenue visibility in a heated AI software landscape.
To drive home how strategically important Palantir is for the Department of Defense (DOD), consider that the U.S. military also expanded an existing contract by nearly $800 million -- bringing the total deal value to $1.3 billion.
Palantir is thriving beyond the public sector, too. Some of the company's more interesting collaborations in the private sector hail from electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) manufacturer Archer Aviation, as well as telecommunications company Lumen Technologies.
While Archer and Lumen are both considered relatively small in comparison to legacy providers in their respective industries, I am encouraged by Palantir's willingness to partner with next-generation companies working to bring much-needed technological innovation to antiquated sectors.
Palantir's strong traction and blistering pace of new customer acquisition has excited investors, particularly in the retail community. As such, Palantir's share price has climbed exponentially higher in tandem with AI euphoria.
How does Palantir stock typically move following an earnings report?
In the chart below, I've illustrated Palantir's stock price movement over the last three years. The purple circles with the letter "E" in the center represent earnings reports. As the trends below clearly show, Palantir stock generally experiences outsize momentum following an earnings report.
Considering the company is accelerating both revenue and profits -- combined with a track record of beating and raising financial guidance -- along with the overly optimistic, perhaps even hubristic, rhetoric of CEO Alex Karp, it's no wonder that Palantir stock has been on such a joyride.
Is Palantir stock a good buy?
If you bought Palantir stock over the last three years, congratulations. Yet while the stock has shown unrelenting resiliency throughout the AI revolution, does that make it a good buy?
Per the analysis above, Palantir's price-to-sales (P/S) ratio of 136 is multiples higher than any of its peers in the software landscape. The stock is undeniably trading at a premium, and that leads me to my next point.
During the peak of the dot-com bubble in the late 1990s, the P/S ratios of internet darlings such as Microsoft, Amazon, and Cisco Systems peaked in the range of 30 to 40. Per the graphic above, Palantir trades in a completely different universe compared to those levels.
The disparity between Palantir's current premium relative to prior bubble stocks makes me think the company's valuation is not only frothy, but unsustainable. Ultimately, I think Palantir stock is due for a correction sooner than many investors may be anticipating.
I'm not alone in this view, either. Among the 25 sell-side analysts on Wall Street who cover Palantir, 17 have a rating of hold on the stock.
The important nuance to understand here is that if you only look at history through Palantir's lens, the stock would appear as a no-brainer right now -- ripe for even more profits. But that doesn't mean you should buy the stock.
By taking into account a more thorough analytical download, history indicates that hot stocks and emerging themes eventually normalize. For this reason, prudent investors understand that they should wait for a more reasonable entry point in Palantir stock -- or risk experiencing unwanted volatility in their portfolios.

Foolish take
Moody Lynn & Leiberson is an investment advisor that runs a large and diversified portfolio of stock holdings. While there is some concentration in its top ten holdings, which represent 44% of the portfolio, ServiceNow's shares represented under 2% of AUM before the Q3 sale. As a result, ServiceNow wasn't making a huge impact to the overall returns for the fund anyway. Looking at the transaction from that perspective, this sale is a non-story.
That said, ServiceNow has some tailwinds at its back that Moody Lynn & Lieberson may be overlooking in its decision to reduce its stake. In addition to ServiceNow's remarkably consistent results over the last several years, the company has jumped with both feet into the deep end of the AI pool and the results have been promising.
At a recent investor conference, CEO Bill McDermott said ServiceNow has provided an AI premium on its pricing method and its customers are comfortable with it as evidenced by the company's 50% quarter over quarter growth in the adoption of its AI premium products.
ServiceNow is also growing its large customers in an impressive manner. In Q2 of 2025, the company reported that its customers with an average contract value of greater than $5 million grew by 19% for the second consecutive quarter.
Moody Lynn & Lieberson's sale of ServiceNow stock won't make any meaningful impact on its overall portfolio performance, but it may have been shortsighted in trimming this consistently strong business at the forefront of the AI buildout.

Figma also launched the Dev Mode MCP server, which speeds up developer workflows by bringing context from Figma Design into any surface that consumes MCP.
The company has been adding new features to boost user engagement. Figma has added improvements that make it easier and more reliable to navigate files with a keyboard or screen reader. The company made the Figma app available in ChatGPT, and it will be able to recommend and create AI-generated FigJam diagrams based on user conversations. A new feature now allows users to copy any design from a Figma Make preview to the design canvas.
The new set of features is expected to boost Figma’s clientele. The company had 11,906 paid customers with more than $10,000 in annual recurring revenues (ARR) as of June 30, 2025, and 1,119 paid customers with more than $100,000 in ARR as of June 30, 2025.
Figma now expects third-quarter 2025 revenues between $263 million and $265 million, which suggests 33% year-over-year growth at the midpoint, but slower than the 41% growth reported in the second quarter of 2025. NOW’s workflows are gaining traction. In the second quarter of 2025, technology workflows won 40 deals worth over $1 million, including four over $5 million. ITSM, ITOM, ITAM, security and risk were all in at least 15 of the top 20 deals. CRM and industry workflows were in 17 of NOW’s top 20 deals, with 17 of those deals over $1 million. Core business workflows were in 16 of the top 20 deals, with seven deals over $1 million. The trend is expected to have continued in the to-be-reported quarter.
NOW ended the reported quarter with 528 customers generating more than $5 million in ACV. The number of customers contributing $20 million or more increased by more than 30% year over year. ServiceNow closed 89 deals greater than $1 million in net new ACV in the reported quarter, including 11 deals over $5 million. NOW’s have been benefiting from strong platform adoption, a trend that is expected to have continued in the fiscal third quarter.
However, NOW shares have suffered from a worsening macroeconomic environment due to higher tariffs and trade uncertainty. Slowing growth prospects in the U.S. public domain have been a headwind for ServiceNow.

The latest Zurich platform promises rapid AI adoption through the combination of multi-agentic AI development, enterprise-grade security and autonomous workflows. The launch of AI agents in ServiceNow’s Security and Risk solutions transforms enterprise security by enabling self-defending systems, improving response times and enhancing risk management in collaboration with Microsoft MSFT and Cisco.
A rich partner base that includes the likes of Alphabet, Amazon AMZN, Microsoft and NVIDIA NVDA is noteworthy. NOW has partnered with Amazon’s cloud computing arm, Amazon Web Services, to launch a bi-directional data integration solution, enabling enterprises to unify data and trigger AI-powered workflows by connecting ServiceNow with Amazon Redshift.
NVIDIA and NOW collaborated to launch AI agents for the telecom industry. The AI agents were built with NVIDIA AI Enterprise software and the AI platform NVIDIA DGX Cloud. ServiceNow has expanded its partnership with NVIDIA to enhance agentic AI by integrating NVIDIA Llama Nemotron reasoning models and AI agent evaluation tools into the ServiceNow Platform for optimized business transformation.
Acquisitions have also played an important role in expanding NOW’s portfolio. In April 2025, ServiceNow announced the acquisition of Logik.ai, a company specializing in AI-powered and Configure, Price, Quote solutions. This move is set to bolster ServiceNow’s CRM offerings, particularly in sales and order management, by integrating advanced AI capabilities. Noteworthy ETF Inflows: XLK, IBM, MU, NOW

(RTTNews) - Dynatrace, Inc. (DT), a provider of an AI-powered observability platform, and ServiceNow Inc. (NOW), a cloud-based software company, on Monday announced a multi-year strategic collaboration to advance autonomous IT operations and scale intelligent automation for enterprise customers.
Dynatrace will provide its deterministic and agentic AI for proactive root cause analysis, prediction, and automated remediation, while ServiceNow will contribute its AI agents and AIOps capabilities to enhance IT service and operations management.
As part of the partnership, Dynatrace will deploy ServiceNow's platform for enterprise service management, HR service delivery, and asset management, while ServiceNow will use Dynatrace's observability platform to support its digital operations.
"Autonomous IT is the future, and our collaboration with Dynatrace is about accelerating Zero Outage outcomes for enterprises today," said Rahul Tripathi, group vice president and general manager, ITSM and ITOM at ServiceNow.
"Dynatrace and ServiceNow are partnering to turn real-time observability into trustworthy, autonomous action across the software delivery lifecycle," said Steve Tack, chief product officer at Dynatrace.
ServiceNow stock was up more than 1% in pre-market trading after Friday's close at $930.17. Dynatrace shares also gained over 1% pre-market, after closing at $50.31 on Friday.
