KPop Demon Hunters has become the most-watched movie ever on the Netflix platform, with 325 million views as of its earnings report.
Netflix makes a move for the toy biz
The movie has been a viral sensation for kids and is likely to be a popular choice for Halloween costumes. The buzz is well-timed ahead of the holiday season.
Netflix is trying to take full advantage of the interest in the movie and a soundtrack. It's teaming with Hasbro and Mattel to produce toys, collectibles, games, and other products based on the movie, which features a female K-pop trio that also fights demons.
Mattel will develop a line of products based on the movie that includes dolls, action figures, accessories, and other products. Hasbro, meanwhile, will produce plush toys, electronics, and role-play items, and a KPop Demon Hunters version of Monopoly Deal, a card game.
Mattel stock rose on the news, as the tie-up could be a bigger deal for that company than for Netflix. Mattel is much smaller than Netflix, with a market cap of just $6 billion.
What it means for Netflix
The toy partnership is likely to be Netflix's biggest cash grab in consumer products yet, and it could pave the way to more spin-offs for KPop Demon Hunters. An obvious one would be a live concert tour of songs from the movie. The music has been key to its popularity, and like Disney's animated musicals, is likely to become part of the popular zeitgeist.
For Disney, movies like Frozen have had incredible staying power, continuing to make new fans who were born years after the debut. The same could be true for KPop Demon Hunters, and a sequel could also be in its future.
Whatever happens, investors shouldn't underestimate the potential effect on Netflix's bottom line. The experience is likely to teach it some valuable lessons in building the kind of entertainment empire that Disney has created.

Netflix's Move From Screen to Shelf Could Be a Genius Diversification Play

Mohawk Industries, Inc. MHK reported third-quarter 2025 results, with earnings falling slightly short of the Zacks Consensus Estimate, while net sales surpassed the same. On a year-over-year basis, the top line increased, while the bottom line declined.
Shares of this leading global flooring manufacturer declined 4.2% in yesterday’s after-hours trading session.
Mohawk has been facing weak housing demand, high input costs and trade-related challenges. Slower home sales and lingering inflation have hurt margins, while tariffs and supply chain shifts add complexity. Despite cost-saving measures, market volumes remain soft, keeping near-term performance under pressure.
Nonetheless, Mohawk’s growth is underpinned by a strong premium product mix, ongoing productivity gains and cost-saving initiatives that are expected to deliver about $110 million in annualized savings in 2025. Solid cash flow and share buybacks highlight financial discipline. Falling interest rates, rising home equity and pent-up housing demand should gradually lift home sales and remodeling activity, while a housing shortage and aging properties support long-term demand. Favorable tariff changes and lower freight costs also strengthen Mohawk’s U.S. manufacturing edge, positioning the company for sustained growth as the housing market recovers.
Inside MHK’s Q3 Numbers
Mohawk reported adjusted earnings per share (EPS) of $2.67, which missed the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $2.68 by 0.4%. In the year-ago quarter, the company reported an adjusted EPS of $2.90.

Net sales of $2.8 billion beat the consensus estimate of $2.73 billion by 1.1% and net sales were up 1.4% year over year. On an adjusted basis, net sales remained essentially flat year over year.
Adjusted gross margin contracted 90 basis points (bps) year over year to 25.3%. Adjusted selling, general and administrative expenses, as a percent of net sales, rose 60 bps to 17.9% from the year-ago period. Adjusted operating margin contracted 130 bps to 7.5% from 8.8% a year ago.
Mohawk’s Segmental Details
Global Ceramic: Sales in the segment totaled $1.1 billion, up 4.4% year over year on a reported basis. On an adjusted basis, sales were up 1.8% from the year-ago level to $1.08 billion.
Adjusted operating income decreased to $89.8 million from $90.8 million a year ago. The segment’s adjusted operating margin contracted to 8.1% from 8.6% a year ago.
Flooring North America: Net sales of the segment amounted to $936.8 million, down 3.8% year over year on a reported basis.
The segment registered an adjusted operating profit of $67.9 million, down from $88.9 million reported in the prior-year period. Adjusted operating margin was 7.2%, down from 9.1% a year ago.
Flooring Rest of the World: Net sales in the segment increased 4.3% year over year on a reported basis to $716.4 million. On an adjusted basis, sales were down 0.9% from the year-ago level to $693.5 million.
Adjusted operating income was $59.3 million, down from $71.8 million reported a year ago. The segment’s adjusted operating margin was 8.3%, down from 10.5% in the year-ago period.
Financial Highlights of MHK
As of Sept. 27, 2025, Mohawk had cash and cash equivalents of $516.2 million compared with $424 million on Sept. 28, 2024. The long-term debt, less the current portion, was $1.74 billion compared with $1.72 billion at the end of third-quarter 2024.
At the end of the third quarter, the company generated free cash flow of $310.3 million compared with $204.2 million a year ago.
Focus on Operational Discipline Amid Market Uncertainty
The company is focusing on strengthening sales strategies, advancing product innovation and enhancing operational productivity to navigate ongoing industry challenges. Inflationary pressures and higher tariffs remain headwinds, and the timing of a recovery is still uncertain.
To support growth, Mohawk is targeting opportunities in new home construction and remodeling, which should help ease housing inflation pressures. Management is confident that declining global interest rates will gradually boost home sales and renovation activity. Leveraging its strong brands, diverse product portfolio and customer relationships, the company continues to expand across markets.
While pricing pressure stays high, Mohawk is enhancing its product mix through premium offerings, expanding commercial sales, optimizing its supply chain and increasing its focus on domestic manufacturing. Productivity initiatives are being implemented across operations to mitigate rising costs, and ongoing restructuring efforts are expected to generate approximately $110 million in savings this year.
MHK’s Q4 View
MHK expects adjusted EPS in the range of $1.90-$2.00, excluding restructuring and other charges, compared with the year-ago figure of $1.95. The guidance does not reflect potential new tariffs, which are yet to be finalized.

Hilton Worldwide Holdings Inc. HLT reported third-quarter 2025 results, wherein earnings and revenues surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate. The top and bottom lines increased on a year-over-year basis.
Hilton’s results were supported by its resilient business model, which delivered strong bottom-line performance despite softer RevPAR trends. Growth was driven by a robust development pipeline, increased construction starts and strong demand for brand conversions. Global expansion and sustained net unit growth momentum further reinforced Hilton’s performance and outlook confidence.
Hasbro, Inc. HAS reported third-quarter fiscal 2025 results, with earnings and revenues beating the Zacks Consensus Estimate. The top line increased year over year, while the bottom line declined from the prior-year quarter’s figure. The downside was mainly due to weaker contributions from the Consumer Products segment.
Nonetheless, Hasbro raised its full-year revenue and adjusted EBITDA guidance. The update was supported by strong performance in the Wizards segment, along with steady contributions from the games portfolio, licensing partnerships and execution of the “Playing to Win” strategy. Despite ongoing macroeconomic challenges, Hasbro expects cost efficiency measures and business diversification to support its growth plans for 2025 and beyond.

Mohawk Q3 Earnings Miss, Revenues Beat Estimates, Stock Down

The S&P 500 Index ($SPX) (SPY) on Wednesday closed down -0.53%, the Dow Jones Industrials Index ($DOWI) (DIA) closed down -0.71%, and the Nasdaq 100 Index ($IUXX) (QQQ) closed down -0.99%. December E-mini S&P futures (ESZ25) fell -0.52%, and December E-mini Nasdaq futures (NQZ25) fell -0.96%.
Stock indexes settled lower on Wednesday as the broader market was under pressure throughout the session, with chipmakers selling off after Texas Instruments forecasted Q4 revenue that fell below expectations. Also, Netflix closed down more than -9% after reporting weaker-than-expected Q3 EPS. Other corporate earnings results on Wednesday were supportive for stocks. Intuitive Surgical rose more than +13% after boosting its worldwide Da Vinci procedure growth forecast for the whole year. Also, Capital One Financial rose more than +1% after reporting better-than-expected Q3 adjusted EPS.

Stock losses accelerated Wednesday afternoon after Reuters reported that the Trump administration is considering broad restrictions on exports to China made with US software in retaliation for China’s latest round of rare earth export restrictions.
The markets are focusing on progress in US-China trade talks, as President Trump reiterated his threat on Monday to boost tariffs on Chinese goods “if there isn’t a deal” by November 1. President Trump is scheduled to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping next week on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation conference in South Korea.
US MBA mortgage applications fell -0.3% in the week ended October 17, with the purchase mortgage sub-index down -5.2% and the refinancing sub-index up +4.0%. The average 30-year fixed rate mortgage fell -5 bp to 6.37% from 6.42% in the prior week.
The shutdown of the US government continues into its fourth week, weighing on market sentiment and delaying key economic reports. The government shutdown means delays in the release of government reports, including the last three weeks of weekly initial unemployment claims and the September payroll report. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) said the September consumer price report, which was initially scheduled to be released last Wednesday, will be released this Friday. The White House has warned that if the government shutdown lingers, it would trigger widespread dismissals of employees in government programs that don’t align with President Trump’s priorities. Bloomberg Economics estimates that 640,000 federal workers will be furloughed during the shutdown, which would expand jobless claims and push the unemployment rate up to 4.7%.
The markets this week will focus on earnings results as the Q3 earnings season continues. Rising corporate earnings expectations are a bullish backdrop for stocks. According to Bloomberg Intelligence, 85% of the S&P 500 companies that have reported so far have beaten forecasts, on course for the best quarter since 2021. Also, more than 22% of companies in the S&P 500 that have provided guidance for their Q3 earnings results are expected to beat analysts’ expectations, the highest in a year. However, Q3 profits are expected to have risen by +7.2% y/y, the smallest increase in two years. Also, Q3 sales growth is projected to slow to +5.9% y/y from 6.4% in Q2.
The markets are pricing in a 97% chance of a -25 bp rate cut at the next FOMC meeting on Oct 28-29.
Overseas stock markets settled lower on Wednesday. The Euro Stoxx 50 closed down -0.84%. China’s Shanghai Composite closed down -0.07%. Japan’s Nikkei Stock 225 closed down -0.02%.
Interest Rates
December 10-year T-notes (ZNZ5) on Wednesday closed up +1.5 ticks. The 10-year T-note yield fell -1.4 bp to 3.949%. T-notes recovered from early losses on Wednesday and settled slightly higher. Wednesday’s slump in stocks, sparked by renewed China trade tensions, triggered short covering in T-notes and pushed prices higher. T-notes maintained modest gain on Wednesday due to strong demand for the Treasury’s $13 billion auction of 20-year T-bonds that had a bid-to-cover ratio of 2.73, better than the 10-auction average of 2.63.
T-notes have ongoing support due to the ongoing US government shutdown, which could lead to additional job losses, reduced consumer spending, and a weakened US economy, potentially allowing the Fed to continue cutting interest rates.
European government bond yields were mixed on Wednesday. The 10-year German bund yield rose +1.1 bp to 2.563%. The 10-year UK gilt yield dropped to a 6.5-month low of 4.369% and finished down -6.0 bp to 4.417%.
UK Sep CPI rose +3.8% y/y, unchanged from Aug and weaker than expectations of +4.0% y/y. Sep core CPI unexpectedly eased to +3.5% y/y from +3.6% y/y in Aug, weaker than expectations of +3.7% y/y.
ECB Vice President Guindos said, “The current ECB interest-rate level is adequate as the path forward for inflation looks positive,” and risks to the outlook for consumer-price growth are balanced.
Swaps are discounting a 2% chance for a -25 bp rate cut by the ECB at its next policy meeting on October 30.
US Stock Movers
Texas Instruments (TXN) closed down more than -5% to lead chipmakers lower after forecasting Q4 revenue of $4.22 billion to $4.58 billion, with the midpoint below the consensus of $4.50 billion. Also, ON Semiconductor (ON) closed down more than -5%, and Microchip Technology (MCHP) closed down more than -4%. In addition, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), Marvell Technology (MRVL), and Intel (INTC) closed down more than -3%. Finally, Analog Devices (ADI), KLA Corp (KLAC), ARM Holdings Plc (ARM), GlobalFoundries (GFS), Lam Research (LRCX), Micron Technology (MU), and NXP Semiconductors NV (NXPI) all closed down by more than 2%.
Cryptocurrency-exposed stocks retreated on Wednesday as the price of Bitcoin fell more than -2%. As a result, Coinbase Global (COIN), Galaxy Digital (GLXY), MARA Holdings (MARA), Riot Platforms (RIOT), and Strategy (MSTR) closed down more than -4%.
Lennox International (LII) closed down by more than -10% to lead losers in the S&P 500 after cutting its full-year EPS forecast to $22.75-$23.25 from a previous estimate of $23.25-$24.25.
Netflix (NFLX) is down more than -10% to lead losers in the Nasdaq 100 after reporting Q3 EPS of $5.87, well below the consensus of $6.94.
AST SpaceMobile (ASTS) closed down more than -10% after announcing a private offering of $850 million of convertible senior notes due 2036.
Manhattan Associates (MANH) closed down more than -4% after reporting that its Q3 remaining performance obligations (RPOs) amounted to $2.077 billion, below the consensus of $2.088 billion.
Mattel (MAT) closed down more than -3% after reporting Q3 net sales of $1.74 billion, weaker than the consensus of $1.84 billion.
Commercial Metals (CMC) closed down more than -3% after Jeffries downgraded the stock to hold from buy.
Intuitive Surgical (ISRG) closed up more than +13% to lead gainers in the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 after boosting its worldwide Da Vinci procedure growth forecast for the whole year.
Avery Dennison (AVY) closed up more than +9% after reporting Q3 adjusted EPS of $2.37, better than the consensus of $2.33, and announcing a pact with Walmart where Walmart will use Avery’s sensor technology that brings RFID-enabled labels to Walmart’s fresh-food departments.
Energy producers and energy service providers rallied on Wednesday after the price of WTI crude oil rose more than +2% to a 1-week high. Halliburton (HAL) closed up more than +4% and Marathon Petroleum (MPC) closed up more than +3%. Also, Phillips 66 (PSX), Occidental Petroleum (OXY), and Valero Energy (VLO) closed up more than +2%. In addition, Baker Hughes (BKR), Chevron (CVX), ConocoPhillips (COP), Devon Energy (DVN), and Exxon Mobil (XOM) closed up more than +1%.
Amphenol (APH) closed up more than +3% after reporting Q3 Ebitda of $1.93 billion, stronger than the consensus of $1.64 billion.
Hilton Worldwide Holdings (HLT) closed up more than +3% after raising its full-year adjusted Ebitda to $3.69 billion-$3.72 billion from a previous forecast of $3.65 billion-$3.71 billion, above the consensus of $3.68 billion.
Avadel Pharmaceuticals (AVDL) closed up more than +3% after Alkermes agreed to acquire the company for about $2.1 billion, or $20 per share.
Capital One Financial (COF) closed up more than +1% after reporting Q3 adjusted EPS of $5.95, well above the consensus of $4.39.

US MBA mortgage applications fell -0.3% in the week ended October 17, with the purchase mortgage sub-index down -5.2% and the refinancing sub-index up +4.0%. The average 30-year fixed rate mortgage fell -5 bp to 6.37% from 6.42% in the prior week.
The markets are focusing on progress in US-China trade talks, as President Trump reiterated his threat on Monday to boost tariffs on Chinese goods "if there isn't a deal" by November 1. President Trump is scheduled to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping next week on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation conference in South Korea.
The shutdown of the US government continues into its fourth week, weighing on market sentiment and delaying key economic reports. The government shutdown means delays in the release of government reports, including the last three weeks of weekly initial unemployment claims and the Sep payroll report. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) said the September consumer price report, which was initially scheduled to be released last Wednesday, will be released this Friday. The White House has warned that if the government shutdown lingers, it would trigger widespread dismissals of employees in government programs that don't align with President Trump's priorities. Bloomberg Economics estimates that 640,000 federal workers will be furloughed during the shutdown, which would expand jobless claims and push the unemployment rate up to 4.7%.

Mattel, Inc. MAT reported lower-than-expected third-quarter 2025 results, with both earnings and revenues missing the Zacks Consensus Estimate. The top line and bottom line also fell year over year from the prior-year quarter’s figure. Following the results, shares of MAT have moved down 6.8% in the after-hours trading yesterday.
Mattel delivered a soft performance in the third quarter, likely impacted by global trade dynamics, shifting retailer ordering patterns across the industry, and ongoing uncertainty surrounding tariff conditions. Key segments such as Barbie and Fisher-Price continued to face headwinds, resulting in lower gross billings. Despite these challenges, point-of-sale (POS) momentum remains positive both in the U.S. and international markets. The company has reiterated its full-year guidance for 2025.

MAT reported an adjusted EPS of 89 cents, missing the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $1.05 per share. It reported an adjusted EPS of $1.14 in the prior-year quarter.
Mattel, Inc. Price, Consensus and EPS Surprise
Net sales amounted to $1.74 billion, missing the consensus estimate of $1.81 billion by 4.1%. The top line declined 6% on a reported basis and was down 7% on a constant currency (cc) basis year over year.
Net sales in the North America segment declined 12% year over year on a reported basis and at cc. The International segment’s net sales increased 3% year over year on a reported basis, but were flat at cc.
In the North America segment, gross billings declined 11% (as reported and 10% at cc) year over year. This downside was attributed to a fall in Dolls, Infant, Toddler and Preschool as well as vehicles.
Gross billings in the International segment increased 5% year over year on a reported basis and up 2% at cc. The uptick was primarily driven by a rise in gross billings in the EMEA and Asia Pacific regions.
MAT’s Category-Wise Worldwide Sales
Mattel, through its subsidiaries, sells a broad range of toys. These items are grouped under different categories: Dolls, Infant, Toddler and Preschool, Vehicles and Action Figures, Building Sets, Games and Other.
Worldwide gross billings by Mattel Power Brands declined 4% year over year on a reported basis and 5% at cc to $1.97 billion. The gross billings for Barbie witnessed a fall of 17% year over year on a reported basis and 18% at cc.
Gross billings for Hot Wheels increased 8% on a reported basis and 6% at cc, year over year. On the other hand, gross billings for Fisher-Price declined 19% on a reported basis and 20% at cc year over year. Gross billings at Other increased 2% on a reported basis, year over year.
Mattel’s Q3 Operating Results
During the third quarter, Mattel’s adjusted gross margin was 50.2%, down 290 basis points year over year. The decrease was primarily attributed to unfavorable foreign exchange impacts, inflationary pressures, increased tariff costs, and higher sales adjustments. These factors were partially offset by ongoing cost-saving initiatives.
Adjusted EBITDA during the quarter was $466.1 million compared with $584.4 million in the prior-year quarter.
Balance Sheet of MAT
As of Sept. 30, 2025, MAT’s cash and cash equivalents were $691.9 million compared with $723.5 million as of Sept. 30, 2024. Total inventories at the end of the quarter were $826.6 million compared with $737.2 million in the prior-year quarter.
Long-term debt (as of Sept. 30, 2025) was $1.73 billion compared with $2.33 billion as of Sept. 30, 2024. Shareholders’ equity was $2.26 billion at the end of the quarter.
Mattel 2025 Guidance
For the year 2025, Mattel is still expecting net sales growth in the range of 1% to 3%. Adjusted EPS are projected to be in the range of $1.54 to $1.66 compared with $1.62 reported in fiscal 2024.
Adjusted gross margin is expected to be approximately 50%, down from 50.9% reported in fiscal 2024.
Adjusted operating income is anticipated between $700 - $750 million compared with $738 million reported last year.

Mattel (MAT) Q3 Earnings and Revenues Miss Estimates

Markets moved through the day roughly flat — actually, more like a reflection in the pond: while the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq were modestly on either side of the zero-balance, the Dow finished the session up +0.47% and the small-cap Russell 2000 was -0.49%. The Russell is still off last week’s highs, even as it outperformed the other major indexes in the past couple trading days.
Bond yields are tacking down slightly — +3.96% on the 10-year and +3.46% on the 2-year — which makes sense when we price in another interest rate cut mid-next week. But it’s really Q3 earnings season that’s driving the bus, with mostly better-than-expected results ahead of today’s opening bell.
Q3 Earnings Roundup After the Bell: NFLX, TXN, MAT
We can’t really say the same for the companies reporting after today’s close; challenges are seeing guidance numbers lower on the bottom end at a couple choice firms with Q3 figures out this afternoon.
Netflix NFLX missed earnings expectations by more than a dollar — $5.87 per share versus the Zacks consensus $6.89, though still above the year-ago $5.40 per share. An unexpected expense related to a dispute with tax authorities in Brazil cut notably into operating margin, leading to the earnings miss. Revenues of $11.51 billion were slightly below the $11.52 billion estimate.
Shares are down -5% on this news, ending its streak of 6-straight quarterly earnings beats. But on the conference call, Netflix may speak on some possible acquisitions, including European Champions League soccer match broadcasts. Less likely, but still possible, is whether Netflix may be in the bidding to acquire Warner Brothers Discovery WBD, which has put itself up for sale earlier today.
Texas Instruments TXN shares are jumping around following its Q3 earnings report after today’s close, but are currently down -7% at this hour. Earnings of $1.48 per share beat the Zacks consensus by a penny, on revenues of $4.74 billion — bettering the $4.65 billion anticipated and +7% quarter over quarter. But a lowering bottom-end of guidance on both earnings and sales next quarter has taken some of the wind out of its sails.
Mattel MAT shares are -5% after being down double digits as an immediate reaction to the Q3 report. Earnings of 89 cents per share missed the $1.05 in the Zacks consensus, on $1.74 billion in quarterly sales which came up short of the $1.81 billion expected. Adjusted gross margins fell year over year, and although the company did not cite tariff realities as the culprit, they would stand to reason. Guidance remained in-line and the company expects a strong holiday season.
What to Expect from the Stock Market Tomorrow
Once again, we will not see any new economic reports on Wednesday, but plenty of earnings releases before and after the bell. AT&T T and GE Vernova GEV report ahead of the open and Tesla TSLA, IBM IBM and Southwest Airlines LUV following the close. As we see in today’s after-market reports, tariff-beholden companies may have a tougher time beating estimates than the early Q3 reports from the biggest Wall Street banks.

(RTTNews) - Mattel Inc. (MAT) revealed earnings for third quarter that Decreased from last year and missed the Street estimates.
The company's bottom line totaled $278.4 million, or $0.88 per share. This compares with $372.4 million, or $1.09 per share, last year.
Excluding items, Mattel Inc. reported adjusted earnings of $0.89 per share for the period.
Analysts on average had expected the company to earn $1.06 per share. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
The company's revenue for the period fell 5.8% to $1.736 billion from $1.843 billion last year.
