Macy's, Inc., an omni-channel retail organization, operates stores, websites, and mobile applications in the United States. The company sells a range of merchandise, such as apparel and accessories for men, women, and kids; cosmetics; home furnishings; and other consumer goods under the Macy's, Bloomingdale's, and bluemercury brands. It also operates in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, and Al Zahra, Kuwait under the license agreements. The company was formerly known as Federated Department Stores, Inc. and changed its name to Macy's, Inc. in June 2007. The company was founded in 1830 and is based in New York, New York.

It's certainly not the most exciting of potential stock picks. Last quarter's revenue growth of 4.8% (or 5.6% when adjusting for currency fluctuation) is in line with the company's long-term norms, in fact.
Nevertheless, retailer Walmart (NYSE: WMT) is a solid prospect for almost any investor's portfolio. Here are the top five reasons it might belong in yours as well.

1. It dominates the retail landscape
To say Walmart is a major brick-and-mortar retailer still understates what the company is. It's the United States' -- as well as the world's -- single-biggest biggest retailer, operating more than 5,200 domestic locales plus nearly 5,600 more stores outside of the United States that collectively did $681 billion worth of business last year, trouncing next-nearest Costco's figure of $254 billion. That's even more sales than e-commerce giant Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) reported for 2025.
In other words, Walmart dominates the retail landscape.
Being bigger doesn't mean it's inherently better, of course. Size does have its clear advantages though. For instance, its suppliers and vendors cater to the needs of their most important distributor, and the company itself can use its scale to negotiate good prices -- and pass those savings along to its customers.
It may not be fair to other retailers. Investors don't want a fair fight, though. They want to own the strongest name in any industry, since strength makes it easier to continue dominating.
2. It thrives in any and all environments
Many consumer-facing businesses are cyclical. For example, people purchase fewer new automobiles when they're feeling cash-strapped or fear losing a job. Or they're less likely to take an extravagant vacation in the middle of a recession.
This isn't a dynamic that applies to Walmart, though. Being the low-price leader for a wide range of basic consumer goods and consumables means it's a go-to option when times are tough. Over the course of the past few inflation-riddled years, in fact, the company frequently touted how most of its market share gains were being made with households earning in excess of $100,000 per year specifically because of the value it offers its shoppers.
Or look at it like this. With the exception of one soft patch in 2015 (when it was suffering some significant labor-related challenges) Walmart hasn't failed to report at least some degree of quarterly sales growth since at least 2010.
3. Walmart is (mostly) debt-free
When interest rates were as low as they were for the better part of the past 17 years, a company's debt load didn't matter much simply because interest charges didn't really eat into earnings. Now that rates are back near multi-decade highs, however, any debt racked-up during this time has become an expensive nuisance.
Walmart's an exception to this dynamic, though. See, it doesn't have a lot of debt on its books. As of the end of July, it's only got $35.6 billion worth of long-term obligations on its balance sheet that are costing it roughly $2.3 billion per year. For perspective, the company's recent annual net income has been in the ballpark of $11 billion, while its total assets are $254 million and its market cap is a massive $800 billion.
This minimal debt burden means Walmart enjoys the fiscal flexibility of investing more money in its own growth -- an edge that many of its smaller and more-debt-burdened competitors don't have.
4. Consistent stock repurchases bolster shareholder gains
The world's biggest brick-and-mortar retailer may not produce much net growth in any given year. That doesn't mean shareholders' stakes are only making an average annual gain of 5%, though. Walmart's consistent profitability is being used to add shareholder value in a different way. That's through stock buybacks, which reduce the total number of outstanding shares, thus making the remaining ones more valuable. Since 1995, the total number of WMT shares has nearly been halved.
The total number of shares being taken out of circulation has slowed since 2020. Don't misinterpret the graphic above, though. The company's spending as much money on stock repurchases as it ever has. It's just not been able to buy back as many shares as it historically has due to the stock's sizable price increase since 2019.
5. It's willing and able to evolve -- and is doing so
Finally -- and perhaps most important -- buy Walmart stock because the company is willing and able to evolve its business. It's proactively doing so, in fact.
There was a time when simply opening its doors and offering consumers everything they might need was good enough. Not anymore, though. Competition is fierce. Not only is Amazon an obvious threat, but Dollar General and Dollar Tree stores appear to still be popping up everywhere. Walmart can't simply rest on its laurels.
And it isn't.
While not every experiment it's tried has panned out as hoped (the world's not quite ready for Walmart-branded healthcare clinics, for instance), many of them have.
For example, online shopping now accounts for nearly one-fifth of the company's total sales, and just last year Walmart collected $4.4 billion worth of high-margin advertising revenue from sellers looking to more promote their goods being sold via a Walmart-operated e-commerce platform. Its Walmart+ program continues to add paying subscribers, giving these members perks like free next-day shipping of online orders, or in some case, same-day deliveries.
Meanwhile, although it's more qualitative than quantitative, Walmart shoppers are now seeing in-store displays and brand-focused presentations that look like something you'd expect to find in more conventional department stores such as Macy's or JCPenney.
In short, Walmart understands that if it doesn't offer solutions that serve consumers' specific lifestyles, one of its rivals will.
Bottom line
So it's a must-have for all investors? Not necessarily. If you crave massive growth and can tolerate any reasonable degree of risk, you may ultimately be dissatisfied by holding a stake in the world's biggest retailer.
If you're looking for a lower-risk name with good value and proven long-term growth prospects, though, Walmart is a solid pick despite its frothy valuation of nearly 40 times this year's expected per-share earnings of $2.63. Sometimes the premium you pay for quality is well worth it.

5 Reasons to Buy Walmart Stock Like There's No Tomorrow

It’s been almost a week since Lululemon’s LULU lackluster Q2 report led to a sharp decline in its stock, hitting a new 52-week low of $162 a share. Although Lululemon was able to exceed Q2 earnings expectations, the leading athletic apparel company slashed its full-year guidance, with a major factor being a $240 million hit from tariffs.
This has raised concerns about the effects of a challenging macro environment on other active-wear apparel companies, including Nike NKE, which is scheduled to report results for its fiscal first quarter on Tuesday, September 30.
Like Lululemon, Nike's stock has been submerged in volatility, climbing off a one-year low of $52 a share but still 19% from a 52-week peak of $90. Furthermore, NKE is more than 50% below its all-time high of $167, with LULU trading 67% beneath its record peaks of $511.
Despite their grizzly stock performances in recent years, let’s see if now is an opportune time to invest in either of these leading apparel retailers for a sharp rebound.

Stale Product Lines & Lululemon’s Surprising Competitors
Offering high-quality activewear and footwear, both brands compete directly in the athletic apparel market, but Lululemon has faced increased competition from unlikely competitors that appear to be disrupting its core business. Simarlar to Nike, Lululemon’s management has admitted that its product lines have become stale and is racing to fast-track new designs.
Centered around its yoga-inspired athleisure gear, Lululemon’s same-store sales fell 4% during Q2 in its core North American market. Notably, several analysts and CNBC contributor Jim Cramer pointed to surprising scenarios/competitors for the disruption, such as more affordable jogger brands offered by Costco COST and The Gap GAP.
While it wasn’t enough to offset domestic concerns, Lululemon's international sales surged last quarter, with China segment sales up 25% and collective markets in the rest of the world up 19%. Still, Lululemon is being impacted by the removal of the de minimis exemption, which previously allowed smaller international shipments to bypass tariff duties. Raising more fears regarding margin pressures and its stale product line, Lululemon’s inventory ballooned 21% year over year to $1.7 billion.

Nike’s Leadership Overhaul & Strategic Pivot
Facing a growing number of competitors outside of Adidas ADDYY, Nike has undergone a leadership change with long-term executive Elliott Hill taking over as President and CEO in 2024. Having more than 30 years of experience with Nike, Hill has refocused the iconic sports brand on its core strengths after a tech-centric strategy misfired.
Pouring resources into digital ads and performance marketing, Nike still experienced a drop-off in digital sales and alienated partners like Foot Locker and Macy’s M in a bid to boost its direct-to-consumer (DTC) reach on Nike.com. It’s noteworthy that Nike’s inventory remained flat during its most recent fiscal fourth quarter, and expects to have a “clean” inventory position by the first half of its current fiscal year 2026.
Aiming to rebuild relationships with third-party vendors, Hill has refocused Nike on wholesale distribution, product innovation, and storytelling campaigns. Plus, Nike has announced plans to shift manufacturing away from China, aiming to reduce exposure to tariffs that could cost up to $1 billion. Stating that the brunt of the tariff impact may be behind it, Nike’s leadership has implemented a four-pronged plan that also includes negotiating with suppliers and retailers to share the cost burden, while cutting corporate costs and selectively raising prices in the U.S.
Nike is better suited to handle Tarriff headwinds
While Lululemon’s immense profitability has wowed investors at times, it doesn’t take Captain Obvious to realize that Nike may be better suited to handle tariff headwinds. Even with Nike facing higher tariff costs, the company is projected to bring in over $40 billion in annual sales for the foreseeable future, compared to Lululemon’s forecast of $11 billion or more.
That said, Nike is generally better positioned to handle tariffs than Lululemon thanks to its supply chain maturity as well. Having a deeper global infrastructure, Nike has diversified manufacturing from multiple countries outside of China, including Vietnam, Indonesia, and India. Lululemon, on the other hand, is more vulnerable to sudden policy shifts and cost spikes as it relies heavily on Canadian and Vietnamese factories.

Conclusion & Final Thoughts
Being further along in its turnaround strategy, a rebound looks more likely for Nike stock, as there could still be more short-term weakness ahead for Lululemon shares. Of course, Lululemon will need to overcome tariff uncertainties, but one thing it can learn from Nike as it undergoes an apparel renovation of its own, is that tech is not always a substitute for product relevance, retail relationships, or emotional brand storytelling that resonates with consumers.

Nike vs. Lululemon: Is Either Apparel Stock Due for a Sharp Rebound?

It wasn't that long ago that Macy's (NYSE: M) was something of a poster child for the retail apocalypse. The company was a supposedly stuck-in-the-past operator burdened with an outdated brick-and-mortar store model.
That once unpopular poster child was looking quite appealing recently, according to data compiled by S&P Global Market Intelligence: The retailer's stock powered 31% higher over the week. Encouraging quarterly results were the foundation for that big leap in price.

Upside surprises
That sort of catapult happens when a company obliterates performance expectations, and that's precisely what happened with Macy's on Wednesday.
For its second quarter, the retailer's net sales amounted to $4.8 billion, which was down slightly from the $4.9 billion in the same period of 2024. Same-store sales, however, inched up by nearly 1% year over year. As for non-GAAP (adjusted) net income, it slid by 24% to $113 million ($0.41 per share).
Analysts were expecting far steeper declines, however. Their consensus for net sales was a bit under $4.7 billion, and that for adjusted profitability was $0.19 per share.
This meant a beat-and-raise quarter for Macy's, as it announced upward adjustments to its guidance for the entirety of 2025. The new top-line anticipation is a range of nearly $21.2 billion to almost $21.5 billion; previously management was modeling $21 billion to $21.4 billion. As for expected profitability, that's been pushed higher to between $1.70 and $2.05. Before, that range was $1.60 to $2.
Price-target bumping
Although no Macy's-following analysts have yet upgraded their recommendations on the stock, several weighed in with post-earnings price-target raises. One of the lifters was Jefferies' Ashley Helgans, who maintained her buy recommendation on the company while cranking her fair-value assessment to $18.50 per share from the preceding $14.50.

Why Macy's Stock Zoomed 31% Higher This Week

Macy's was also able to raise its outlook for the whole year for both its top and bottom lines.
Shares of Macy's (NYSE: M) jumped on Wednesday, finishing the day up 20.7%. The surge came as the S&P 500 (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC) and Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQINDEX: ^IXIC) gained 0.5% and 1%, respectively.
The department store chain reported its Q2 earnings this morning, delivering numbers that crushed Wall Street's expectations and raised its full-year outlook.

Macy's beats across the board
The retailer reported Q2 adjusted earnings per share (EPS) of $0.41 on sales of $4.81 billion. Wall Street had been expecting just $0.18 a share on sales of $4.76 billion. That's a pretty significant earnings beat.
The company also raised its full-year guidance, now expecting adjusted earnings between $1.70 and $2.05 per share, up from its previous range of $1.60 to $2.00. Revenue guidance inched higher to between $21.15 billion and $21.45 billion from the prior $21 billion to $21.4 billion range.
The improved outlook is particularly notable, given that Macy's cut its guidance just last quarter, blaming pricing pressure from import duties. CEO Tony Spring acknowledged that tariffs remain a real challenge for the business, but pointed to improvements in store experiences and product mix as factors helping to offset those pressures.
Challenges remain for Macy's
The company is making progress with store updates and product selection, but the retailer still faces significant structural challenges in an e-commerce-dominated environment.
While today's results show Macy's transformation is making progress, ongoing import costs remain a significant risk in the short term, and consumer preference for online shopping in the long term. The opportunity is real, but significant challenges remain.

Why Macy's Stock Soared 20.7% Today

The S&P 500 Index ($SPX) (SPY) today is up by +0.56%, the Dow Jones Industrials Index ($DOWI) (DIA) is down by -0.19%, and the Nasdaq 100 Index ($IUXX) (QQQ) is up by +1.02%. September E-mini S&P futures (ESU25) are up +0.56%, and September E-mini Nasdaq futures (NQU25) are up +1.00%.
Stock indexes are mostly higher today, driven by lower T-note yields and increased chances of a Fed rate cut later this month. T-note yields fell after the July JOLTS job openings fell more than expected to a 10-month low. The 10-year T-note yield is down -5 bp to 4.22%.

Strength in megacap technology stocks is also supporting gains in the broader market. Alphabet is up more than +8% after a judge ruled in an antitrust case late Tuesday that the company won't be forced to sell its Chrome browser. Also, Apple is up more than +3% after a court ruling stopped short of barring the company's lucrative search arrangement with Google, a deal that has generated roughly $20 billion in revenue a year for Apple.
The weakness in energy producing stocks and energy service providers is a negative factor for the overall market today, with the price of WTI crude oil down more than -2%.
US Jul JOLTS job openings fell -176,000 to a 10-month low of 7.181 million, showing a weaker labor market than expectations of 7.380 million.
US Jul factory orders fell -1.3% m/m, right on expectations, and the second straight month orders have declined.
US MBA mortgage applications fell -1.2% in the week ended August 29, with the purchase mortgage sub-index down -3.1% and the refinancing mortgage sub-index up +0.9%. The average 30-year fixed rate mortgage fell -5 bp to 6.64% from 6.69% in the prior week.
Fed Governor Christopher Waller said the fed funds rate is currently above the neutral rate, meaning monetary policy is restricting the economy, and that inflation is likely to move "much closer" to the Fed's goal in six or seven months. He added that the Fed should aim to get ahead of a sharp slowdown in the job market and "we need to start cutting interest rates at the next meeting" and make multiple cuts in the coming months.
St. Louis Fed President Alberto Musalem said, "The current modestly restrictive setting of the policy rate is consistent with today's full employment labor market and core inflation nearly one percentage point above the Fed's 2% target," and it's important to take a "balanced approach" to policy right now and not weight too much to support the labor market or to fight inflation.
Atlanta Fed President Raphael Bostic reiterated that he sees one interest rate cut this year, as price stability remains his primary concern, and it's not unambiguously clear that the labor market is weakening materially.
This week's USeconomic calendaris busy. Later today, the Fed's Beige Book will be released. On Thursday, the Aug ADP employment change is expected to increase by +80,000. Also, weekly initial unemployment claims are expected to increase by +1,000 to 230,000, and Q2 nonfarm productivity is expected to be revised upward to 2.7% from the previously reported 2.4%, with Q2 unit labor costs expected to be revised downward to 1.4% from 1.6%. In addition, the Aug trade deficit is expected to widen to -$78.0 billion from -$60.2 billion in June. Finally, the Aug ISM services index is expected to climb by +0.8 to 50.9. On Friday, Aug nonfarm payrolls are expected to rise by +75,000, and the Aug unemployment rate is expected to rise by 0.1 to 4.3%. Aug average hourly earnings are expected to increase +0.3% m/m and +3.7% y/y.
Regarding tariffs, a federal appeals court ruled late last Friday that President Trump exceeded his authority by imposing global tariffs without Congressional approval, but the court let the tariffs remain in place while appeals continue. The US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit Court said, "The statute bestows significant authority on the President to undertake a number of actions in response to a declared national emergency, but none of these actions explicitly include the power to impose tariffs, duties, or the like, or the power to tax." The case now appears to be headed to the Supreme Court for a final decision. According to Bloomberg Economics, the average US tariff will rise to 15.2% if rates are implemented as announced, up from 13.3% earlier, and significantly higher than the 2.3% in 2024 before the tariffs were announced.
Federal funds futures prices are discounting the chances of a -25 bp rate cut at 95% at the next FOMC meeting on September 16-17. The markets are discounting the chances at 53% for a second -25 bp rate cut at the following meeting on October 28-29.
Overseas stock markets today are mixed. The Euro Stoxx 50 is up +0.63%. China's Shanghai Composite closed down -1.16%. Japan's Nikkei Stock 225 closed down -0.88%.
Interest Rates
December 10-year T-notes (ZNZ5) today are up +12 ticks, and the 10-year T-note yield is down -4.5 bp to 4.217%.
Dec T-notes are moving higher today after the US Jul JOLTS job openings fell more than expected to a 10-month low, boosting the chances for a Fed interest rate cut at the September 16-17 FOMC meeting to 95%, according to the swaps market. Also, today's 2% fall in WTI crude prices has reduced inflation expectations as the 10-year breakeven inflation rate fell to a 1.5-week low of 2.406%, a bullish factor for T-notes.
However, T-notes remain under pressure from supply risks. About $55 billion of corporate debt securities are expected to be priced this week, which will prompt bond dealers to enter short positions on T-note futures as a hedge against the incoming supply. Also, investors are demanding higher yields for holding government debt in the face of spiraling budget deficits and sticky inflation. Finally, T-note yields are climbing on concerns over Fed independence, with President Trump trying to oust Fed Governor Cook. The worry is that Mr. Trump is trying to replace Cook and other Fed officials with policymakers more inclined to lower interest rates regardless of inflation risks.
European government bond yields today are moving lower. The 10-year German bund yield is down -3.9 bp to 2.747%. 10-year UK gilt yield fell from a 7.5-month high of 4.845% and is down -5.0 bp to 4.750%.
Eurozone July PPI eased +0.2% y/y from +0.6% y/y in June, slightly stronger than expectations of +0.1% y/y.
The Eurozone Aug S&P composite PMI was revised downward by -0.1 to 51.0 from the previously reported 51.1.
Swaps are discounting the chances at 1% for a -25 bp rate cut by the ECB at the September 11 policy meeting.
US Stock Movers
Alphabet (GOOGL) is up more than +8% to lead gainers in the S&P 50 and Nasdaq 100 after a judge ruled in an antitrust case late Tuesday that the company won't be forced to sell its Chrome browser.
Apple (AAPL) is up more than +3% to lead gainers in the Dow Jones Industrials after a court ruling stopped short of barring the company's lucrative search arrangement with Google, a deal that has generated roughly $20 billion in revenue a year for Apple.
The Campbell's Company (CPB) is up more than +4% after reporting Q4 adjusted EPS of 62 cents, better than the consensus of 56 cents.
Western Digital (WDC) is up more than +3% after Morgan Stanley named the stock its "Top Pick" with an overweight rating and a price target of $99.
Macy's (M) is up more than +19% after reporting Q2 net sales of $4.81 billion, better than the consensus of $4.71 billion, and raising its full-year net sales estimate to $21.15 billion-$21.45 billion from a previous estimate of $21.00 billion-$21.40 billion.

Macy’s, Inc. M has reported second-quarter fiscal 2025 results, wherein the top and bottom lines surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate. However, both metrics decreased from the year-ago quarter. At the Bloomingdale’s brand, comps increased 3.6% on an owned basis and 5.7% on an owned-plus-licensed-plus-marketplace basis, marking its fourth consecutive quarter of growth.
Comps at the Bluemercury brand rose 1.2% on an owned basis, its 18th consecutive quarter of comps growth.
Insight Into Macy’s Margins & Expenses
The gross margin in the second quarter was 39.7%, which met our estimate. This represented a decline of 80 basis points from last year, driven by proactive markdowns on remaining early Spring merchandise to support healthy inventory levels, as well as product purchased under prior tariff rates.
The Zacks Rank #3 (Hold) company reported selling, general and administrative (SG&A) expenses of $1.94 billion, down 1.5% year over year. In addition, the Aug trade deficit is expected to widen to -$78.0 billion from -$60.2 billion in June. Finally, the Aug ISM services index is expected to climb by +0.8 to 50.9. On Friday, Aug nonfarm payrolls are expected to rise by +75,000, and the Aug unemployment rate is expected to rise by 0.1 to 4.3%. Aug average hourly earnings are expected to increase +0.3% m/m and +3.7% y/y.
Regarding tariffs, a federal appeals court ruled late last Friday that President Trump exceeded his authority by imposing global tariffs without Congressional approval, but the court let the tariffs remain in place while appeals continue. The US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit Court said, "The statute bestows significant authority on the President to undertake a number of actions in response to a declared national emergency, but none of these actions explicitly include the power to impose tariffs, duties, or the like, or the power to tax." The case now appears to be headed to the Supreme Court for a final decision. According to Bloomberg Economics, the average US tariff will rise to 15.2% if rates are implemented as announced, up from 13.3% earlier, and significantly higher than the 2.3% in 2024 before the tariffs were announced.
Federal funds futures prices are discounting the chances of a -25 bp rate cut at 92% at the next FOMC meeting on September 16-17. The markets are discounting the chances at 51% for a second -25 bp rate cut at the following meeting on October 28-29.

December 10-year T-notes (ZNZ5) today are up +2 ticks, and the 10-year T-note yield is down -0.8 bp to 4.271%.
Dec T-notes today are slightly higher, recovering some of Tuesday's losses. Today's 2% fall in WTI crude prices has reduced inflation expectations and sparked some short-covering in T-notes. Today's strength in European government bonds is also providing carryover support to T-notes.
However, T-notes remain under pressure from supply risks. About $55 billion of corporate debt securities are expected to be priced this week, which will prompt bond dealers to enter short positions on T-note futures as a hedge against the incoming supply. Also, investors are demanding higher yields for holding government debt in the face of spiraling budget deficits and sticky inflation. Finally, T-note yields are climbing on concerns over Fed independence, with President Trump trying to oust Fed Governor Cook. The worry is that Mr. Trump is trying to replace Cook and other Fed officials with policymakers more inclined to lower interest rates regardless of inflation risks.
European government bond yields today are moving lower. The 10-year German bund yield is down -2.1 bp to 2.765%. 10-year UK gilt yield fell from a 7.5-month high of 4.845% and is down -1.7 bp to 4.783%.
Eurozone July PPI eased +0.2% y/y from +0.6% y/y in June, slightly stronger than expectations of +0.1% y/y.
The Eurozone Aug S&P composite PMI was revised downward by -0.1 to 51.0 from the previously reported 51.1.
Swaps are discounting the chances at 1% for a -25 bp rate cut by the ECB at the September 11 policy meeting.

Stocks Climb as Alphabet and Apple Rally and Bond Yields Stabilize

Pre-market futures are trading at muted levels this morning, with the exception of the Nasdaq, which is up triple digits (+0.72%) at this hour. This reflects the judge’s ruling yesterday afternoon in favor of Google parent Alphabet GOOGL, in which the search giant is not required to divest its Chrome web browser.
Alphabet’s default search placement and payment relationship with Apple AAPL is allowed to remain in place, and this was one of the question marks surrounding this case. While shares of Alphabet are up +6% ahead of today’s open — +42% year to date — while Apple shares are +3.5% at this hour, though still down -8% year to date.
Macy’s Rips Earnings Estimates, +13% in Early Trading
Among the last of the big-box retailers to report earnings, Macy’s M this morning posted a huge beat on its bottom line: earnings of 41 cents per share versus expectations of 19 cents, for a whopping +113.8% positive surprise. On the revenue side, Macy’s outpaced the consensus by +1.99% to $4.81 billion in the quarter, though still down from the $4.94 billion reported in the year-ago quarter. Macy’s shares are still down year to date.
Jobs Data to Report After the Open: JOLTS for July
At 10am ET today, the latest Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) report comes out, for the month of June. At 7.4 million openings expected, this is right in-line with what we saw the prior month, and within the year-plus range between the September 2024 low of 7.1 million and the 12-month high last November of 8.0 million.
In the previous report, JOLTS were shrinking in a couple key areas: -308K in accommodation and food services, and -244K in healthcare and social assistance. These supply some of the “backbone” to the overall labor market, so we’ll be sure to take a look under the hood later today. The Midwest region shed the most job openings in June: -149K.
