Qatar needs 10,000 rockets
Should the war resume, Qatar wants to be better prepared to defend itself next time -- and so it's turning to the U.S. government and defense contractor BAE Systems (OTC: BAESY) for assistance. According to a recent U.S. State Department notification to Congress, the Qatari government has requested permission to purchase 10,000 Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System-II (APKWS) rockets for $992.4 million.
Originally designed as an air-to-surface missile, fired from platforms such as the Apache attack helicopter at ground targets, the APKWS is basically an unguided 70 mm Hydra rocket equipped with a laser guidance system to improve accuracy. But once this modification was made, militaries discovered something amazing:APKWS can shoot down drones midair. (Indeed, in at least one instance, it's succeeded in shooting down a cruise missile.)
This fact was proved in practice last year in Ukraine, in a pilot project run by both BAE Systems and its partner, L3Harris (NYSE: LHX), which equipped pickup trucks with L3's Vehicle-Agnostic Modular Palletized ISR Rocket Equipment (VAMPIRE) launcher. Used to defend Ukrainian cities from attacks by Shahed-136 drones, built by Russia on license from Iran, the VAMPIRE-plus-APKWS system proved remarkably effective in shooting down drones.

Even better, it proved remarkably cheap.
All of a sudden, instead of firing $3 million Patriot missiles at $50,000 Iranian drones, Ukraine was able to shoot those same drones with $22,000 rockets -- flipping the economics of defense versus offense entirely upside down.
What do investors need to know?
Given the thousands of drones Iran launched during the war, the thousands of drones it's believed still to possess, and the continuing risk that the war may resume, the State Department has concluded that "an emergency exists that requires the immediate sale to Qatar of the above defense articles and defense services is in the national security interests of the United States."
The sale is therefore almost certain to go through.
As the principal contractor on this arms deal, BAE Systems will reap essentially all the rewards from Qatar's purchase. What's more, because APKWS comes out of BAE's most profitable business unit, Electronic Systems, this deal is likely to generate extraordinary profits for BAE (a 15.5% operating profit margin, according to data from S&P Global Market Intelligence) -- the more so because supply is likely to be constrained, resulting in higher prices.
Actually, that's possibly the most important point of all. According to BAE's own website, the company currently has a capacity to produce only 25,000 APKWS per year. If delivered all in one year, as you'd expect in an "emergency" situation, Qatar's order will eat up almost half of that. And in a situation like this, you'd expect prices to rise -- for example, to $992.4 million divided by 10,000 rockets, equaling a $99,000 unit price!
It's a seller's market for BAE Systems right now, and it will remain so until the company can expand its production capacity. Expect BAE's profit margins to reflect that.

Israel's billion-dollar plan to stop Iranian drones
Over the course of the war, Iran fired more than 2,000 ballistic missiles and launched more than 4,415 drone strikes. The majority of these targeted nearby Gulf nations, but some 650 medium-range ballistic missiles targeted Israel. Unlike in the April 2024 conflict between Israel and Iran, when Iran fired approximately 350 drones and missiles at Israel in a single weekend, almost no drones were launched at Israel during the present conflict.
But the drone threat remains.
To ensure it's ready to meet any contingency, drones, missiles, or a combination of the two, Israel has asked the U.S. government for permission to buy 10,000 Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System-II (APKWS) rockets from BAE Systems (OTC: BAESY) for $992.4 million, for anti-drone defense.

Palantir's Hackathon
Palantir announced this morning that it will participate in an upcoming "hackathon sprint" hosted by the U.S. Army. It won't be the only defense company participating; according to an Army press release, everyone from Anduril to Boeing (NYSE: BA), General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), L3Harris (NYSE: LHX), Leidos (NYSE: LDOS), Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT), Northrop Grumman (NYSE: RTX), and RTX Corp (NYSE: RTX) have also been invited.
But Palantir has a special reason to want to participate and show off its technical chops.
Last quarter, Palantir hit its highest-ever year-over-year growth rate of 85%, but two factors may still be worrying investors. First, Palantir warned that new contracts grew more slowly than sales (yielding a book-to-bill ratio under 1.0), and full-year sales may grow only 71% this year.
And second, government sales in particular grew more slowly than commercial sales -- only 76% for government, versus 95% for commercial, according to data from S&P Global Market Intelligence.
Why Palantir wants to enlist in the Army
A big win with the U.S. Army could help shift this dynamic and reaccelerate government sales growth. And here's the best news:
According to the Army, the aim of its "Right to Integrate" hackathon is to "ensure offensive and defensive weapon systems, and business systems across the Army, can collectively integrate, share data and communicate with each other." This objective plays right to Palantir's strengths.

In the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026, recurring revenues were up 5.6% to $50 million, representing 47.1% of total revenues.
CGNT recently announced that it won a $20 million plus, three-year subscription contract with a “long-standing customer” in the Europe/Middle East/Africa region, underscoring both demand visibility and customer stickiness.
Apart from installed base expansion, focus on new customers and scaling of the U.S. market bodes well. 61 new customers were added in fiscal 2026. CGNT is also strengthening its sales team and recently added Carahsoft as a channel partner. Carahsoft will aid in providing access to federal, state and local procurement channels to boost adoption of CGNT’s solutions.
The integration of AI into investigative workflows is emerging as a key differentiator. Cognyte is embedding AI into its operational systems platform, which creates a competitive moat.
The company’s backlog and remaining performance obligations (“RPO”) strengthen revenue visibility. Total RPO stood at $557.2 million, with a backlog of $433.4 million at the end of fiscal 2026. Total RPO is the sum of contract liabilities and backlog. As a result, the company now expects fiscal 2027 revenues to be $448 million (+/-3%) compared with $400 million in fiscal 2026.

As revenues scale, profitability is also improving. Fiscal 2026 non-GAAP gross margin expanded 200 basis points to 73%, while non-GAAP operating profit of $36.7 more than doubled year over year. Adjusted EBITDA came in at $48.2 million, up from $29.1 million in the prior-year quarter. The company has already achieved its fiscal 2028 gross margin targets ahead of schedule, indicating strong execution.
Cognyte ended fiscal 2026 with approximately $116.9 million in cash and no debt. A strong balance sheet provides flexibility for acquisitions, innovation and shareholder returns. The company is also actively returning capital through share buybacks, signaling confidence in its growth. For fiscal 2026, CGNT repurchased stock worth $21.4 million.
However, macro uncertainty, competition, rising operating expenses and dependence on government spending cycles remain concerns.

Analysts have significantly revised earnings estimates upwards for CGNT’s current fiscal year.

CGNT’s 38.1% gain stands in stark contrast to the Zacks Internet Software market’s decline of 1.6% in the past three months. The broader Computer and Technology sector and the S&P 500 are up 11.6% and 5%, respectively.

L3Harris (LHX) Q1 2026 Earnings Transcript

L3Harris Technologies, Inc. LHX reported first-quarter 2026 earnings (from continuing operations) of $2.72 per share, which beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $2.53 by 7.5%. The bottom line also increased 12.9% from the year-ago quarter’s $2.41.
LHX’s Total Revenues
L3Harris’ revenues totaled $5.74 billion, which topped the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $5.43 billion by 5.9%. The top line also improved 11.9% from the year-ago quarter’s $5.13 billion.
The year-over-year increase in the top line was driven by growth across all segments, reflecting new program ramp-up and increased international volume.

LHX’s Segmental Performance
Space and Mission Systems: Net revenues from the segment were $2.99 billion, reflecting a year-over-year improvement of 24%.
The segment’s operating income improved to $313 million from $238 million in the year-ago quarter. The operating margin increased 60 bps to 10.5%, driven by improved program performance.
Communication and Spectrum Dominance: Net revenues from this segment rose 3% to $1.86 billion.
The unit’s operating income improved to $465 million from $443 million in the year-ago quarter. The operating margin increased 60 bps to 25.1%, driven by increased sales associated with higher margin products in night vision devices and software-defined resilient communications, as well as the favorable settlement of a legal matter.
Missile Solutions: This segment reported revenues of $990 million, which improved 18% year over year.
The unit’s operating income of $124 million increased from $96 million in the first quarter of 2025. The operating margin jumped 110 bps to 12.5%, primarily due to the monetization of legacy assets aligned with its transformation and value creation priorities.
Financial Position of LHX
As of April 3, 2026, L3Harris had $0.59 billion in cash and cash equivalents compared with $1.07 billion as of Jan. 2, 2026.
The long-term debt as of the same date was $9.19 billion compared with $10.44 billion as of Jan. 2, 2026.
The net cash used in operating activities was $95 million during the first three months of 2026 compared with $42 million in the prior-year period.
LHX’s 2026 Guidance
It expects to generate approximately $23-23.5 billion in revenues. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for 2026 revenues is pegged at $23.45 billion, which is at the higher end of the company’s guided range.
L3Harris now expects earnings to be in the range of $11.40-$11.60 per share compared with the prior range of $11.30-$11.50. The Zacks Consensus for 2026 earnings is pegged at $11.53 per share, which is higher than the midpoint of the company’s guided range.
It expects adjusted free cash flow to be around $3 billion.

RTX Corporation’s RTX first-quarter 2026 adjusted earnings per share of $1.78 beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $1.52 by 17%. The bottom line improved 21.1% from the year-ago quarter’s level of $1.47.
Quarterly revenues came in at $22.08 billion, up 8.7% from $20.31 billion in the year-ago period. Sales also beat the consensus mark of $21.56 billion by 2.43%.
