JPMorgan Chase & Co. was founded in 1799 and is headquartered in New York, New York.

However, the stock market may be more fragile than it appears. Jerome Powell issued two critical warnings during his final months as Federal Reserve chairman, and investors who ignore the warnings may pay a high price for their complacency. Here's what you need to know.
The Federal Reserve may have to raise interest rates
In January, the market expected the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) -- the branch of the Federal Reserve that sets monetary policy -- to cut its benchmark interest rate by at least a half percentage point this year. At the time, lower rates seemed like a sure thing because the jobs market was struggling and inflation was cooling.
But the economic environment looked much different by April. Job growth had bounced back, and inflation had reaccelerated due to rising oil prices tied to the Iran conflict. So, the FOMC held rates steady for the third straight meeting, and Jerome Powell gave this warning during his final press conference as Fed chair:
The economic outlook remains highly uncertain and the conflict in the Middle East has added to this uncertainty. ... In the near term, higher energy prices will push up overall inflation. Beyond that, the scope and duration of potential effects on the economy remain unclear.
One source of uncertainty is the extent to which the oil shock will bleed into core inflation (which excludes volatile food and energy). The oil shock directly impacts headline inflation by raising gas and utility prices, but it also impacts core inflation indirectly by raising transportation and manufacturing costs.
The next few weeks are critical. Michael Cembalest at JPMorgan Chase writes, "If the Strait of Hormuz is not reopened sometime in June/July, global oil inventories will hit an operational floor and result in greater rationing." That would push energy prices higher and raise the odds that the oil shock bleeds heavily into core inflation.
So what? The Fed may overlook transitory increases in headline inflation, but a sustained increase in core inflation would likely warrant higher interest rates, and history says that would be bad news for stocks. Since 1999, the Fed has started four rate-hike cycles, and the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite have always declined over the following three months.
The stock market is expensive by historical standards
The FOMC does not make monetary policy decisions with specific asset prices in mind, nor do Fed officials claim to know what the correct price for any specific asset might be. But last September, Jerome Powell warned, "Equity prices are fairly highly valued."
At the time, the S&P 500 traded at 22.5 times forward earnings. The index is slightly cheaper today with a forward price-to-earnings multiple of 20.1, but that is still a premium to the 10-year average of 19. And the current valuation is particularly concerning when considered alongside the possibility of higher interest rates.
Higher interest rates mean businesses and consumers pay more to borrow money, which reduces spending and corporate profits. Higher interest rates also compress stock market valuations by making bonds look more attractive. When investors can get decent returns from less risky alternatives, they are less likely to pay large premiums for stocks.
Here's the big picture: The stock market is more fragile than it appears because inflation may force the Fed to raise interest rates at a time when valuations are already elevated. That could easily lead to a correction or even a bear market. Investors should keep that in mind when they make decisions. Now is not the time to take big risks.

JPMorgan Chase entered 2026 with expectations for headwinds
When rates rise, JPMorgan Chase can charge higher interest rates on the loans it makes. And it can drag its feet when it comes to increasing the rates it pays to its bank customers. The outcome is higher net interest income. However, if rates fall, the bank's net interest income declines because it charges lower interest rates on its loans. It has no choice if it wants to remain competitive. And it takes time to lower the rates it pays depositors, further compounding the headwind.

As JPMorgan Chase entered 2026, it expected net interest income to rise by about 7%. However, the interest rate outlook shifted in the first quarter. Going in, Wall Street was anticipating rate cuts in the back half of the year. During the quarter, the rate outlook changed to rates holding steady. Only JPMorgan Chase didn't update its net interest income goals because its original view was for rates to fall late in the year. Thus, there was little impact from the new outlook, and any impact was expected to be offset by other parts of the business.
Things just got easier for JPMorgan Chase
Interest rate expectations have changed again since the end of the first quarter, with higher rates increasingly likely as inflation has started to tick up. If interest rates rise, JPMorgan Chase could have an easier time hitting its 7% net interest income growth target. And, perhaps, it may even consider raising the target.
That said, the same puts and takes that kept the company from raising its target after the first quarter may hold it to a cautious outlook when it reports second-quarter earnings. While the interest rate environment has shifted from negative to neutral to positive, geopolitical conflicts persist, inflation is still elevated, and the S&P 500 index (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC) remains near all-time highs. JPMorgan Chase might simply be happy that its net interest income target is easier to achieve and leave it at that.
JPMorgan Chase: Investors are already pricing in good news
Even if JPMorgan Chase ups its net interest income target, investors may want to tread with caution. The stock's price-to-book ratio is 2.4x, compared with its five-year average of 1.8x. And its forward price-to-earnings ratio of 14x is well above its five-year average of 12x. In other words, the stock looks a bit expensive relative to its recent past, with investors appearing to have already priced in a lot of good news, perhaps even an interest hike or two.

JPMorgan Chase Is Eyeing 7% Net Interest Income Growth. Why That Goal Just Got Easier to Believe.

Morgan Stanley MS is keeping the door open for acquisitions as it looks to strengthen its asset and wealth management franchise. However, CEO Ted Pick made it clear that any deal must meet a high strategic bar and align closely with the company’s long-term growth priorities.
Speaking at the bank’s flagship U.S. Financials Conference, Pick said Morgan Stanley is “wide awake” to potential M&A opportunities as the regulatory backdrop becomes more constructive. Wealth management and selected areas of asset management appear to be the most likely targets, particularly where a deal can deepen the company’s U.S. leadership, add tools for advisors or broaden exposure to high-growth areas such as private markets, alternatives, tax optimization and digital assets.
The comments come as Morgan Stanley’s wealth platform gains scale. Pick said the company can now envision $10 trillion in wealth management assets alone, supported by its funnel of E*TRADE, Workplace and roughly 15,000 financial advisors. Workplace remains a key engine, with billions of dollars moving from stock-plan and self-directed channels into advisor-led relationships.
Morgan Stanley has already shown how acquisitions can reshape its business mix. Smith Barney, E*TRADE and Eaton Vance helped shift the company toward more durable fee-based revenues, while bolt-ons such as Solium and EquityZen added capabilities in workplace and private shares.
Still, Pick stressed discipline. M&A in financial services can be difficult, culturally sensitive and distracting. Organic growth remains the priority at the moment. But with excess capital and improving deal conditions, Morgan Stanley has room to act when the right target emerges.
Morgan Stanley’s Peers: M&A as an Expansion Tool
Two close peers of Morgan Stanley are Goldman Sachs GS and JPMorgan JPM.
Goldman is refocusing on core capital markets and wealth management businesses. In sync with this, in April, the company acquired Innovator Capital Management, expanding Goldman’s active ETF capabilities, while in January, it acquired Industry Ventures, broadening exposure to the innovation economy and strengthening the alternatives platform.
JPMorgan has the capital to pursue a major deal, with CEO Jamie Dimon indicating it could deploy up to $20 billion for the right opportunity. Acquisitions in wealth, payments, asset management or fintech could strengthen JPMorgan’s franchise and support new growth, but execution, regulatory and valuation risks make discipline essential.

Morgan Stanley Keeps M&A Door Open Amid $10T Wealth Push

Bank of America’s BAC planned launch of a cross-border real-time payments solution next quarter is expected to support fee revenues over time by giving corporate and commercial clients a faster, more transparent way to move money across countries. By offering instant payments through Swift and CashPro, BAC can reduce delays and uncertainty in global transactions, encouraging more clients to route cross-border payment activity through the bank.
The opportunity is meaningful because BAC is targeting high-volume payment areas, such as remittances, gig-worker payouts and e-commerce marketplace payments. While these transactions are often smaller in value, they occur frequently. As volumes increase, transaction-related fees can build into a steady recurring revenue stream, making the product attractive from a long-term revenue perspective.
The launch is also expected to help BAC deepen relationships with corporate and institutional clients. Companies using CashPro for real-time global payments may also turn to the bank for treasury, cash-management, foreign-exchange and working-capital services. This will likely create cross-selling opportunities and improve client stickiness.
Features such as real-time tracking, full principal delivery and local-currency settlement will improve client experience. Businesses want certainty around when money is sent, when it arrives and how much the receiver gets. By reducing delays and improving transparency, BAC can make its payments platform more valuable.
Overall, as demand for faster and more reliable cross-border payments grows, the launch is expected to help Bank of America capture a larger share of global payment flows and gradually strengthen its fee-based revenue stream.
How Are BAC’s Peers Competing in This Space?
Global transaction banking peers such as JPMorgan JPM and Citigroup C are also investing in faster cross-border payment capabilities.
JPMorgan is strengthening its real-time cross-border payments capabilities through its blockchain-based Kinexys Digital Payments platform, which enables institutional clients to move deposits with JPMorgan instantly, including across borders and outside normal banking hours.
By supporting 24/7/365 payments, real-time transaction visibility, liquidity movement and offshore USD clearing, Kinexys positions JPMorgan as a leading large-bank competitor in tokenized payments and real-time treasury solutions.
Citigroup, conversely, is advancing its real-time cross-border payments capabilities by integrating Citi Token Services with its 24/7 USD Clearing platform. The solution enables institutional clients to move funds near-instantly across Citigroup and non-Citigroup accounts, initially in the U.K. and the United States, with plans to expand to more markets.

JPMorgan Chase & Co. (JPM) Stock Moves -1.12%: What You Should Know

Morgan Stanley MS is expanding the use of artificial intelligence (AI) across its workplace wealth management business by allowing corporate clients’ AI agents to connect directly with its stock-plan administration platforms, Shareworks and Equity Edge, according to a CNBC report. The move makes Morgan Stanley one of the first major Wall Street banks to open its systems to external AI-powered tools.
The new capability will allow AI agents to access data and insights directly from Morgan Stanley’s platforms, reducing the need for users to log in through traditional interfaces. Mark Mitchell, chief product officer of Morgan Stanley at Work, said that the firm expects corporate clients to increasingly interact with its services through AI-powered workplace tools rather than dedicated websites.
Morgan Stanley is using the open-source Model Context Protocol to enable these connections. The company believes that its proprietary data and expertise will remain key differentiators as AI becomes a more common interface for financial services.
The bank has already launched pilot programs with a small group of clients and plans to make the feature available to its roughly 3,400 stock-plan administration customers by next year. The initiative reflects the growing adoption of agentic AI, which allows software agents to perform tasks and interact with business systems autonomously.
Strategy to Support MS’ Wealth Management Push
The push into agentic AI is the latest step in Morgan Stanley’s long-term strategy to expand its wealth management business and reduce its dependence on the more volatile capital markets segment. Over the years, the company has strengthened its wealth management platform through acquisitions, such as Shareworks and E*TRADE, turning its workplace business into an important source of new client relationships and assets.

The offering is receiving an unusual level of support from big banks, as JPMorgan Chase and Bank of America have held events to sell the stock to both high-net-worth individuals and retail investors, and JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon even hosted one such event.
So what will happen to SpaceX once it enters the public markets? Let's evaluate some of the near-term catalysts facing the stock.
What to expect when SpaceX goes public
SpaceX is going public at a time when the market is trading at a historically high valuation. The CAPE ratio is the second-highest it's been in history, now approaching dot-com levels, and a convulsion in the market since last Friday's jobs report has already sent tech stocks plunging.
SpaceX itself is also being valued at an astronomical ratio, trading at a price-to-sales ratio of roughly 100, higher than any S&P 500 stock or any company of a similar size at the time of its public offering. Meanwhile, SpaceX's revenue growth is also slowing, rising just 15% in the first quarter to $4.7 billion, and it's reporting wide losses following its merger with xAI.
Those factors are all likely to put downward pressure on the stock once it begins trading.
The bull case, meanwhile, is more based on the long-term prospects for the company, which aims to colonize space, among other goals like launching orbital data centers. SpaceX said it had an addressable market, based on future growth, of more than $27 trillion, nearly the entire current GDP of the U.S. Bulls like Ron Baron have said the company could reach a valuation of as much as $30 trillion in the next 10 to 20 years.
SpaceX's valuation is based on the chance that it could achieve a mass-market breakthrough innovation that would deliver meaningful profits, rather than its current financial results.
Where SpaceX will be after a month
High-profile IPOs are often busts shortly after they go public, especially if they go public at a high valuation. Typically, the hype wears off after they begin trading and the stock pulls back. Three months after it had gone public, Meta Platforms, then Facebook, was down by roughly 50% three months after it went public.
Similarly, Uber was down by roughly a third three months after it went public in May 2019, and it continued to drift lower from there.
By forcing the $135/share price on investors, SpaceX is also further setting the stock up for failure, as investors have no say in that price. The last time the company raised money from investors in early 2023, SpaceX was valued at $137 billion, a fraction of what it is aiming for in the IPO.
At some point in July, I think SpaceX will fall as low as $75 a share, which would wipe off 44% from the IPO price, though that would still leave it with a market cap of nearly $1 trillion and a price-to-sales valuation of 60, as rich as almost any other stock on the market.
The combination of weakening financials, a sky-high valuation, its decision to set the offering price without input from investors, and signs of cracks in the broader bull market all point to a potentially steep decline for SpaceX when it goes public.
Whether the company will be successful in the long term will depend on its technological innovations, but even SpaceX bulls will likely get a better entry point by staying on the sidelines.

Prediction: SpaceX Stock Will Hit This Price in July

The banking industry is entering one of the most significant workforce transformations in its history. For decades, banks relied on a well-established talent model: recruit large numbers of graduates into analyst programs, train them through repetitive but essential work and gradually develop future leaders from this pool of talent. Artificial intelligence (AI) is now challenging that model.
As AI systems become capable of analyzing financial data, generating reports, reviewing documents, conducting compliance checks and supporting customer interactions, many big banks like JPMorgan JPM, Goldman GS, Wells Fargo WFC and Citigroup C are reconsidering the need for large entry-level hiring classes. The shift is not simply about reducing headcount. It represents a fundamental change in how banks operate, generate profits and develop talent.
Recently, JPMorgan’s chief executive, Jamie Dimon, has said that the technology will eliminate some jobs, and the company will likely hire more AI specialists and fewer traditional bankers as technology adoption accelerates. Likewise, Citigroup’s chief executive, Jane Fraser, has warned that certain positions may no longer be needed due to investments in automation and AI.
Meanwhile, Goldman’s president, John Waldron, has described parts of the banking workforce as vulnerable to automation. Last year, Wells Fargo signaled that its workforce could shrink further in 2026 as part of a broader push to improve efficiency and expand the use of AI across its operations.
Banks’ AI Push Turns ROI-Focused
Banks are moving beyond viewing AI mainly as a cost-cutting tool and are increasingly tying investments to measurable returns, innovation and business growth. The latest Infosys Bank Tech Index shows stronger discipline, with participating banks canceling more projects before AI deployment while reducing post-launch cancellations. This suggests better upfront screening, and about 59% of deployed AI initiatives are now generating measurable business value.
Major U.S. banks are embedding AI into broader strategic plans. Citigroup is using AI to drive productivity gains as part of its planned $5-billion incremental investment from 2026 through 2028. Goldman is applying AI to improve productivity, support fee growth and expand operating leverage, including through its $1.5-billion partnership with Anthropic. JPMorgan is rolling out AI across investment banking while shifting hiring toward AI-skilled talent. Wells Fargo is using AI to improve workflows and customer engagement, with its Fargo virtual assistant surpassing 1 billion interactions as of March 31, 2026.
Overall, banks’ AI strategies are becoming more selective, disciplined and growth-oriented. The focus is shifting from launching more projects to converting the right projects into productivity gains, better customer service and revenue opportunities.
How AI-Driven Hiring Shifts Could Benefit Banks
From a financial perspective, the near-term impact is likely to be positive. Personnel expenses are among the largest cost categories for banks. By automating tasks, banks can improve productivity while reducing workforce-related costs. This creates meaningful operating leverage. Revenues can grow while staffing costs rise more slowly, supporting margin expansion. With this, key metrics such as return on equity, efficiency ratios and earnings per share could improve over time.
AI can also accelerate decision-making across the company. Loan underwriting can become faster, compliance reviews more efficient and client reporting more sophisticated. Investment bankers can spend less time preparing presentations and more time engaging with clients. Wealth managers can process larger volumes of market information in real time, while trading desks can analyze data faster and more efficiently. In each case, AI increases employee productivity and allows banks to serve more clients without proportional increases in staff.
Large global banks like JPMorgan, Citigroup, Wells Fargo and Goldman are especially well-positioned to benefit. Their substantial technology budgets allow them to invest in proprietary AI tools, cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity and specialized talent. While these investments may initially raise expenses, they can also create long-term competitive advantages.
Hidden Risks of AI-Driven Hiring Shifts
Despite the financial benefits, reducing entry-level hiring carries meaningful risks. If AI eliminates a substantial portion of junior-level work, banks may find themselves facing a long-term leadership challenge. Future executives need practical experience to understand markets, manage risks and make complex decisions. While AI can automate many analytical tasks, it cannot fully replace human judgment, relationship-building and strategic thinking. Reducing the number of young professionals entering the industry today may create shortages of experienced leaders a decade from now.
Banks also face operational and regulatory risks as they rely more heavily on AI systems. Errors in AI-driven decision-making could lead to flawed credit assessments, compliance failures, inaccurate risk models, or regulatory scrutiny. Greater AI adoption also raises concerns around cybersecurity, transparency, accountability and model bias.
As a result, banks must align automation with strong governance and human oversight, particularly in critical business and risk-management decisions.
Balancing Act: Technology & Talent
AI is set to reshape the banking industry because it depends heavily on processing information quickly and accurately. Banks that integrate AI effectively can become leaner, faster and more profitable, with improved cost structures, higher productivity and more personalized customer service.
However, the long-term winners will not simply be the banks that cut the most jobs. They will be those who balance automation with talent, using AI to improve efficiency while still developing future leaders.
The future of banking will be defined by how well institutions combine AI with human expertise. Investors should monitor efficiency ratios, compensation costs, headcount trends, technology spending and return on equity to determine whether AI investments are improving financial performance. Overall, banks that control cost growth without weakening revenue generation are likely to benefit the most.

JPMorgan Chase (NYSE: JPM) is a driving force of the broader economy. And the gigantic bank has been a huge winner thanks to strong fundamental performance. During the past decade, its shares have generated a total return of 527% (as of June 8). That gain comes up well ahead of smaller rival Bank of America (NYSE: BAC), whose shares delivered a total return of 369% during the same time.
From the market's perspective, investors might struggle to find differences between these two companies. After all, they each have a meaningful presence in different areas of the financial services sector.

But JPMorgan Chase trades at a price-to-book (P/B) ratio of 2.4, representing a sizable 71% premium to Bank of America's 1.4 multiple. What's causing this large valuation gap? And does it tell us anything about the investment implications of these two financial stocks?
The key performance metrics paint a clear picture
There are numerous variables investors can examine to understand why the market values JPMorgan Chase at a significant premium to its banking counterpart. Let's start with some key financial metrics.
JPMorgan Chase's return on tangible common equity (23%), efficiency ratio (54%), and net profit margin (33%) in the first quarter were all better than what Bank of America reported.
JPMorgan Chase has a stronger market position in areas that generate non-interest fee income, adding stability. It collects much greater revenue from activities like investment banking and asset management.
To Bank of America's credit, it has the leading market share in the U.S. consumer deposit market. But JPMorgan Chase's total deposit base of $2.7 trillion is larger in an absolute sense. Nonetheless, the spread between what it earns on interest-bearing assets and what it pays on interest-bearing liabilities of 2.01% is 46% higher than Bank of America's 1.38%. This supports a cost advantage.
Leadership has an impact
These are no doubt important metrics to pay attention to, and they highlight the superior operations of JPMorgan Chase. But investors will also want to take a closer look at their management teams, specifically the chief executive officers (CEO).
Jamie Dimon has been the CEO of JPMorgan Chase since 2006. He gets a lot of credit for successfully navigating the business through the 2008 financial crisis, which decimated the entire industry, without needing a government bailout. This sharpened the company's stringent risk management practices.
He also managed through acquisitions and directed technology investments to make JPMorgan Chase the biggest bank in the U.S. Dimon is one of the most highly regarded corporate leaders in the world.
Brian Moynihan deserves praise as well, having been the CEO of Bank of America since 2010, when it was in a troubled state. He turned the company into a highly profitable and tech-forward financial institution.
However, he doesn't have the same public visibility and investor appreciation that Dimon does, which might also be a contributing factor to his stock's valuation.
What's the opportunity for investors?
In addition to JPMorgan Chase's more favorable financial metrics, its profit gains also stand out. During the past decade, the company's diluted earnings per share climbed at a compound annual rate of 12.8%. That's faster than Bank of America's yearly clip of 11.3%.
Taking everything into account, it makes sense why JPMorgan Chase trades at a notable premium to its industry peer. Any rational investor would conclude that it's deserving of the valuation. Its robust position in non-interest and fee-generating activities, greater scale, and better profits support this view.
But does Bank of America's discount mean that there's a buying opportunity here? Not necessarily, because the market isn't automatically going to bid up this bank stock's valuation to match JPMorgan Chase's P/B ratio.
For investors seeking adequate exposure to the financial services industry as part of a diversified portfolio, owning both companies is a reasonable approach.

JPMorgan Chase Trades at a Big Premium to Bank of America. Is It Worth the Difference?

Kevin Warsh is now chairman of the Federal Reserve's Board of Governors. If past comments from Warsh are any indication, then big changes could be coming to the Fed and the banking industry.
Warsh has spoken publicly about how he thinks the Fed has played too large a role in financial markets, whether through its transparency about future interest rate policy or the size of the Fed's balance sheet.

It's also worth noting that the Fed regulates bank holding companies and has significant control over bank regulation, particularly for large banks. Here's what a Warsh-led Fed means for big banks like JPMorgan Chase (NYSE: JPM) and Bank of America.
Banks are looking at a higher-for-longer rate environment
It's hard to know exactly what approach Warsh will take to interest rates as the new board chair.
In the months leading up to his confirmation for the role, Warsh seemed to suggest that artificial intelligence productivity gains would pave the way for the Fed to cut interest rates. However, recent economic data is really forcing his hand in the opposite direction.
The labor market has seemingly firmed up during the past three months and now seems to be on solid footing. Meanwhile, inflation remains above the Fed's 2% target, so Warsh's hands are tied right now. The market widely expects Warsh to keep rates unchanged for his first several meetings, with the Fed's next move now expected to be an interest rate hike.
Warsh has talked about changing the way the Fed looks at inflation, but that framework could take some time to develop, so banks probably can expect a higher-for-longer rate environment.
Assuming the yield curve remains steep, meaning shorter-duration bonds continue to yield less than longer-duration ones, this can actually be favorable to bank lending businesses. Banks tend to borrow money short-term at low rates and lend it out long-term at higher rates, so a steep yield curve allows them to make a spread between the money they pay for deposits and the money they earn on loans and bonds.
Bank of America and JPMorgan Chase both predict net interest income to rise about 7% or more in 2026 from the previous year.
Higher-for-longer rates aren't always so great for investment banking and asset and wealth management, but other factors also affect these businesses, namely, artificial intelligence.
Trillion-dollar initial public offerings (IPOs) are helping the large investment banks earn enormous fees, while AI in general continues to move the market broadly higher, which is good for asset and wealth management.
The flip side of higher rates is that they can pressure consumer and business balance sheets, as well as real estate. This can lead to depressed lending activity or higher loan losses.
How a smaller Fed balance sheet could impact banks
Warsh has also been vocal about his desire to shrink the Fed's $6.7 trillion balance sheet. Warsh believes a larger Fed balance sheet and more liquidity in the economy favor wealthier people with assets and provide too much support to financial markets.
This will take time because shrinking the Fed's balance sheet can be tricky. However, in general, a smaller Fed balance sheet will have both pros and cons for large banks like JPMorgan Chase and Bank of America.
It would likely hurt banks because removing liquidity can slow the economy, and large banks are closely tied to the health of the U.S. economy. Less liquidity could mean tighter lending conditions and less money sloshing around that can work its way into private equity, venture capital, stocks, and other alternative assets.
However, the Fed has previously gotten into trouble when it shrank its balance sheet too quickly, lowering bank reserves that many financial players rely on. In 2019, reserves drained too quickly, triggering excess demand in the overnight repo market and causing short-term repo rates to soar. The Fed eventually had to inject liquidity.
On the other hand, shrinking the Fed's balance sheet can also steepen the yield curve because the Fed is no longer buying various bonds. So, as debt is issued by the government, there would likely be a larger supply of bonds in the market, which would decrease demand, leading to lower bond prices and higher bond yields.
Additionally, if Warsh is able to eventually cut interest rates, which he certainly wants to do whenever feasible, that would likely further bring down the yields on shorter-duration bonds, which tend to be more heavily influenced by the federal funds rate controlled by the Fed.
That could really steepen the yield curve, which, as I mentioned, would likely be great for bank lending businesses.
Warsh has previously favored bank deregulation
Finally, as one of the key bank regulators, Warsh seems more likely to favor deregulation, which the large banks have already begun to enjoy under President Donald Trump.
"I don't believe the Fed is owed any particular deference in bank regulatory and supervisory policy," Warsh said in a Wall Street Journal opinion column last year, adding the U.S. Treasury Department should play a larger role in bank regulation.
Based on these comments, Warsh is likely to push for less bank regulation by the Fed, which would likely translate into easier annual stress testing and support for lower regulatory capital and liquidity requirements, all of which are favorable for large banks.
It also likely means faster approvals for large bank mergers and acquisitions, although JPMorgan Chase and Bank of America can't typically acquire banks directly because they already have more than 10% U.S. deposit market share.
Ultimately, Warsh should be favorable for large banks in terms of regulation.
