Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) Rises Higher Than Market: Key Facts

The pharmaceutical industry continues to address any and every known ailment. Cancer, however, remains the business's biggest market. Precedence Research suggests the global oncology market is currently worth nearly $280 billion per year, en route to $700 billion by 2035.
And that bodes well for drugmaker Johnson & Johnson (NYSE: JNJ). After years of lethargic performance, the company's been on a buying spree of late, acquiring Halda Therapeutics and Ambrx Biopharma specifically because of the developmental work these companies were doing on the cancer front.

Fast-forward to today. J&J's most recent purchase -- while relatively small at $1 billion -- advances the company's goal of producing $50 billion worth of annual oncology revenue by 2030. (For perspective, Johnson & Johnson did $94.2 billion worth of business last year.)
Here's what investors need to know about the deal.
A strategic, complementary acquisition
The latest target in Johnson & Johnson's streak of acquisitions is mostly unknown Firefly Bio. What's it getting for its $1 billion in cash? Firefly's proprietary Firelink degrader antibody conjugate (DAC) platform, mostly, which specifically takes aim at KRAS (Kirsten rat sarcoma viral oncogene homolog) tumors.
That won't mean much to most people; here's the explanation in simpler language:
A KRAS-driven tumor is a cancer caused by a mutation in the KRAS gene. This mutation errantly tells the affected cell to continue growing and dividing even when it shouldn't. It's not uncommon in cases of colorectal and non-small cell lung cancer, and it's particularly common with pancreatic cancer. It's a problem in all cases, however, in that it's long been considered "undruggable," meaning there's historically been little that can be done about these mutations.
Medical science's capabilities have finally caught up with many of its diagnostic capabilities, though, at least on one front. The industry can now induce a human body to natural fight cancers it didn't know -- or know how -- to fight before. One of the approaches of inducing such a response is with antibody drug conjugates, which essentially deliver self-destruct instructions to diseased cells (identifying them by unique proteins on their surface) without harming healthy cells.
Enter FireFly Bio, or specifically, the Firelink platform, which creates a category of antibody drug conjugates (or ADCs) called "degraders." These are essentially ADC boosters that destroy a unique gatekeeping protein on the surface of a diseased cell without ever even giving it a chance to prevent or slow an antibody from effectively penetrating it.
A chance for marketable improvement
It's still a fairly new science, but one that's more than proven. The next stage of the DAC era is simply continuing to refine the science so it can be utilized with more cancer-fighting antibody drug conjugates. And Johnson & Johnson's got plenty of those. That's the chief reason it wanted Ambrx back in 2024, although it's done a fair amount of internal ADC development lately as well.
It matters mostly because Precedence Research also thinks the worldwide antibody drug conjugate market alone could be worth $21 billion by 2030, and $35 billion by 2035. The more effective J&J's cancer-fighting ADC portfolio is, the bigger its piece of that pie gets, and the closer it gets to its cancer treatment revenue target of $50 billion.

The decision expands Sarclisa's use into the frontline transplant-eligible setting, reinforcing its role in advancing treatment options for multiple myeloma.

Pfizer Inc. (PFE) announced that the FDA has approved HYMPAVZI for additional patient groups, including individuals aged 12 and older with hemophilia A or B who develop inhibitors, and children aged 6-11 with or without inhibitors.

Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Limited?(TEVA) completed the acquisition of Emalex Biosciences for $700 million in consideration, with the potential for up to an additional $200 million in commercial milestone payments, as well as other contingent payments.
The acquisition adds Ecopipam, an investigational asset in a Phase 3 trial for pediatric Tourette syndrome, to Teva's pipeline. NDA submission is expected in H2 2026.
TEVA closed Thursday's trade at $34.56, up 2.92%.
GSK plc (GSK) entered into an agreement to acquire Nuvalent, Inc (NUVL), which develops targeted cancer therapies, in a transaction valued at $10.6 billion (£8.0 billion) to bolster its oncology pipeline.
Under the terms, GSK will commence a tender offer to acquire all outstanding Nuvalent shares at $124 each in cash, and the transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of 2026, subject to regulatory conditions.

Johnson & Johnson To Acquire Firefly Bio For $1 Bln Cash Deal for Oncology Pipeline Expansion
Johnson & Johnson (JNJ)?entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Firefly Bio, Inc., including its proprietary Firelink degrader antibody conjugate (DAC) platform for KRAS-driven tumours, for $1 billion in cash and the transaction is expected to occur later this year, subject to approvals. The deal is expected to help JNJ expand its oncology portfolio.

Cartesian Therapeutics Inc. (RNAC) has inked a strategic licensing agreement with WestGene Biopharma Co., Ltd. to advance the development of novel in vivo chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapies in autoimmune diseases.
Cartesian's lead asset is Descartes-08, an autologous mRNA CAR-T targeting B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA).
In partnership with WestGene, Cartesian will conduct a Phase 1 dose-escalation study of the mRNA used in Descartes-08 delivered via WestGene's proprietary targeted lipid nanoparticles (tLNPs) in patients with generalized myasthenia gravis. This study is expected to be initiated in 2H 2026, with topline data anticipated in 1H 2027.

Galmed Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (GLMD) announced a definitive agreement to acquire Colospan Ltd., a commercial-stage medical device company focused on colorectal surgery. The acquisition includes Colospan's flagship product, CG-100, an intraluminal bypass device placed inside the bowel after colorectal surgery that allows waste to pass through it while protecting the stitched connection for healing.
CG-100 has the FDA BDD designation and is CE-marked, and Colospan is also conducting a pivotal U.S. clinical trial. Galmed plans to invest $6 million to launch the device in Europe during the second half of 2026, initially targeting Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

In return for the rights granted, LENZ is eligible to receive up to $85 million in regulatory sales milestones, along with tiered royalties ranging from mid-single digits to low double-digit percentages on net sales in Greater China.?The NDA for VIZZ?in China is due for decision in the first quarter of 2027.

The transaction includes Ayumi Pharma's flagship product, Calonal, also known as acetaminophen, which holds more than 80% of Japan's acetaminophen market.

Clinical Trials - Breakthroughs & Setbacks
Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) reported that its investigational immunoselective treatment?IMAAVY (nipocalimab-aahu) delivered a rapid and durable improvement in haemoglobin levels in patients with warm autoimmune hemolytic anaemia (wAIHA) from its Phase 2/3 ENERGY study. wAIHA has no FDA-approved treatments.
In the study, IMAAVY demonstrated a safety profile consistent with its safety profile in the approved indication of generalised myasthenia gravis, the company stated.

Humacyte, Inc. (HUMA), announced positive top-line interim results from the Phase 3 study, dubbed V012, evaluating the Acellular Tissue-Engineered Vessel (ATEV) in female patients undergoing dialysis access.
The trial met its primary endpoint, which is total days free from indwelling catheter until 365 days after access placement, or until access abandonment, whichever occurs first.
Notably, patients implanted with the ATEV had an average of 220 catheter-free days, compared with 129 for patients who received an AV fistula. In primary safety-related factors, patients receiving the ATEV experienced infections at a rate of 6?per 100 patient-years, compared with 23 per 100 patient-years in patients receiving the AV fistula procedure.

Eli Lilly and Company (LLY) announced additional positive results from pivotal Phase 3 trials dubbed the TRIUMPH-1 trial for adults with obesity and TRANSCEND-T2D-1 in adults with type 2 diabetes evaluating Retatrutide, an investigational GIP,?GLP-1, and glucagon triple-hormone receptor agonist.
In the trials, Retatrutide showed substantial weight loss along with meaningful improvements in knee osteoarthritis pain, moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea, and A1C reductions, as well as weight loss?in type 2 diabetes. The types of adverse events seen in the trials were generally consistent with those seen in trials of other incretin-based therapies, noted the firm.

Sanofi (SNY) discontinued its Phase 3 MOBILIZE trial of Riliprubart for the treatment of chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy, or CIDP, based on findings from an independent data monitoring committee that Riliprubart was unlikely to yield sufficient efficacy in treating CIDP.
Meanwhile, the ongoing Phase 3 VITALIZE trial for Riliprubart in IVIg-treated CIDP patients will continue as planned.

Zealand Pharma A/S (ZEAL.CO)'s partner Boehringer Ingelheim?reported positive trial readouts from?two global Phase III trials named SYNCHRONIZE-1 for adults living with obesity or overweight, without type 2 diabetes and the SYNCHRONIZE-MASLD study for adults with overweight or obesity with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), which evaluated its investigational glucagon/GLP-1 receptor dual agonist?Survodutide.
In SYNCHRONIZE-1, Survodutide showed an average sustained weight loss of up to 16.6% compared with 3.2% in the placebo arm, along with a 34.0% relative reduction in fat loss.
In the SYNCHRONIZE-MASLD trial, Survodutide met its other co-primary endpoint with a relative reduction in body weight of up to 12.2% compared to 1.0% in the placebo arm, and 6 out of 10 patients (61.0%) achieved liver fat normalisation compared to 5.7% in the placebo arm.
Meanwhile, treatment discontinuation rates due to GI adverse events were 19% in the Survodutide arm compared with 2.9% in the placebo arm.

Eli Lilly and Company (LLY)?unveiled new?findings based on post-hoc analyses of more than 1,500 female participants in the ATTAIN-1 and ATTAIN-2 clinical trials that evaluated Foundayo, an oral GLP-1 therapy.
In the ATTAIN-1 study, women in perimenopause lost up to 30.4 lbs (14.4%), while those in postmenopause lost up to 28.2 lbs (14.1%). In ATTAIN-2, women taking Foundayo experienced significant weight loss across all stages of menopause, even when living with type 2 diabetes.

Following the money
This week, AbbVie presented new data from its blood cancer portfolio at the European Hematology Association (EHA) Congress.
This is one of the world's largest medical conferences focused on blood cancers and disorders, bringing together thousands of physicians, researchers, pharmaceutical companies, and healthcare professionals to present new clinical trial data and discuss emerging treatments.
The reason EHA is important is that companies often use the conference to release new data on cancer drugs, particularly therapies targeting blood cancers. Positive results presented at EHA can support regulatory approvals, label expansions, partnerships, and future revenue growth. That's why AbbVie showcased its new clinical results there.
The company's most recent presentations included data on approved therapies as well as several pipeline candidates. In total, AbbVie showcased 21 presentations spanning multiple blood cancers, including chronic lymphocytic leukemia, follicular lymphoma, multiple myeloma, acute myeloid leukemia, and diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.
AbbVie generated about $61 billion in revenue during 2025, and while immunology drugs receive most of the attention, oncology remains an important contributor.

Indeed, oncology helps diversify AbbVie's business.
Diversifying the pipeline
You may remember the company's dependence on Humira.
At its peak, Humira was one of the best-selling drugs in pharmaceutical history, generating about $21 billion in annual revenue.
That concentration created a significant risk because patents eventually expire. And when Humira lost U.S. exclusivity in 2023, and biosimilar generics entered the market, Humira revenue began declining rapidly.
Management saw this challenge coming years in advance and responded by aggressively building new growth platforms across immunology, oncology, and neuroscience.
Today, drugs such as Skyrizi and Rinvoq (used to treat Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, and arthritis) are helping offset Humira's decline, while the company's oncology portfolio provides another important source of revenue and cash flow. The result is a much more diversified business than just a few years ago.
Today, AbbVie generates revenue across immunology, neuroscience, and oncology. That has reduced dependence on any single product and created a more resilient cash flow profile.
And that's why the EHA presentations are relevant.
AbbVie is actively expanding the use of existing drugs while advancing newer therapies that could eventually offset declines from older products. The company highlighted encouraging efficacy data across multiple studies, including late-stage programs and investigational treatments targeting difficult-to-treat blood cancers.
Of course, you can't guarantee successful drug development.
Clinical setbacks happen, and not every program succeeds. It's just part of the overall process of developing new therapies.
Still, AbbVie's oncology portfolio is no longer dependent on a single drug. The company now has multiple approved products, several late-stage opportunities, and a broader pipeline than it did just a few years ago.
Now consider that the latest clinical updates will strengthen the revenue engine supporting the dividend over the long term.
AbbVie's oncology business already generates billions of dollars annually, and management continues working to ensure that oncology remains a growth driver rather than a mature business.
That's why the company continues investing heavily in expanding existing therapies into new indications while advancing next-generation treatments for blood cancers and solid tumors.
Every successful clinical trial creates the potential for new approvals, larger patient populations, and longer revenue runways. And because cancer treatments often command premium pricing and can remain on the market for many years, successful oncology drugs can become meaningful cash-generating assets.
And ultimately, it's cash flow that pays dividends.

AbbVie Reports Promising New Clinical Updates. Here's What It Means for the Company's Dividend.

Investors are clearly excited about this biotech company exploring an innovative way to fight cancer and potentially other diseases. Now the question is: After this explosive IPO, is it too late to buy the stock?
Taking on "undruggable" targets
First, let's start out by taking a closer look at Parabilis. The company launched in 2015, built on many years of research out of Greg Verdine's Harvard University lab. He was a co-founder and chief executive officer in the company's earliest days. Verdine's team found a way to target what previously was thought to be "undruggable" -- these are certain proteins that are inside cells and lack the concave surfaces that allow drugs to bind and take action.
Verdine's team created a new drug type, forming peptides into an alpha-helix so that they could enter cells, bind to flat surfaces, and work to fight disease. And so was born the company's Helicon platform.
Today, Mathai Mammen, former global head of research and development at Johnson & Johnson, is CEO of Parabilis -- at the pharma giant, he led his team to the approvals of nine medicines across oncology, immunology, and neuroscience. So Mammen has what it takes to lead Parabilis through the current and next stages of clinical development and into commercialization.
"Promising" results in patients
The biotech's lead candidate, zolucatetide, is set to begin a phase 3 study in desmoid tumors, noncancerous growths that have limited treatment options, in the first half of next year. Parabilis has studied zolucatetide in more than 150 patients so far and delivered "promising" data in a range of tumor types, the company wrote in its prospectus.
Zolucatetide is involved in four phase 1 studies, including hepatocellular carcinoma and colorectal cancer. And the biotech is also developing candidates in preclinical studies and aims to expand this technology into other therapeutic areas beyond oncology in the future.
Parabilis says that Helicons are the only modality out there right now that allows for the entering of cells and the binding to flat surfaces. This ability to make "undruggable" targets "druggable" could be big, particularly if it may be extended across many treatment areas. About 80% of validated disease targets are undruggable today, according to Parabilis.
Parabilis' deepening loss
Now, let's consider the recent IPO and the company's financial picture. Proceeds from the offering will go toward funding zolucatetide's phase 3 study, as well as earlier studies in other indications and earlier-stage research. The company's loss has progressively deepened, to $145 million last year, as R&D costs advanced to $125 million. This isn't surprising for a biotech company at this stage. But these losses and need for ongoing spending to support its programs make Parabilis -- and other biotechs at this moment in their growth stories -- risky investments.
So, considering all of this and the recent double-digit gain on IPO day, is it too late to get in on Parabilis? This biotech offers interesting -- and potentially game-changing -- technology, but it may take several years for this, if successful, to translate into revenue. So, regardless of the stock price, Parabilis isn't the best choice for cautious investors.
If you're an aggressive investor, however, and you're looking for a biotech that potentially may be a big winner down the road -- and you have the patience to buy and hold for several years, Parabilis may be right for you. That said, there's no need to rush in immediately after this spectacular IPO gain. Instead, you're better off waiting for an opportunity to buy on the dip.

Parabilis Soared 58% in the Biggest Biotech IPO on Record. Is It Too Late to Buy the Stock?

AbbVie ABBV continues to see strong momentum from Skyrizi and Rinvoq, its two blockbuster immunology medicines. Sales of both drugs not only mitigated the impact of continued erosion in legacy drug Humira but also reaffirmed their role as AbbVie’s key growth drivers.
This growth continued into 2026. In the first quarter, Skyrizi sales increased 29.2% year over year to $4.48 billion, while Rinvoq sales rose 20.2% to $2.12 billion. Together, the products were key contributors to AbbVie's double-digit revenue growth in the quarter. The company subsequently raised its 2026 revenue outlook for both medicines by $100 million each and now expects Skyrizi and Rinvoq to generate $21.6 billion and $10.2 billion in sales, respectively, this year. Combined, Skyrizi and Rinvoq are expected to deliver more than 20% growth in 2026.
A key driver behind this strength is continued demand across inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) indications, including ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD). Skyrizi has emerged as a leading therapy in the category, while Rinvoq continues to gain traction following label expansions that support earlier use in treatment. AbbVie also highlighted continued market-share gains and strong new-patient demand for both products in the first quarter.
The growth runway for both medicines remains substantial. AbbVie recently submitted regulatory applications seeking approval of Rinvoq across two indications — vitiligo and alopecia areata — and Skyrizi as a subcutaneous induction option for CD. Additional growth opportunities remain, with Rinvoq being evaluated in late-stage studies for hidradenitis suppurativa and systemic lupus erythematosus, and data readouts expected later this year. Management believes the next wave of Rinvoq indications alone could contribute roughly $2 billion in peak annual sales. Combined with continued market-share gains across psoriasis and IBD, these label expansion opportunities should support sustained growth for both medicines through 2026 and beyond.
ABBV’s Competition in the Immunology Space
Johnson & Johnson JNJ remains one of AbbVie’s strongest competitors in immunology through blockbuster medicines Tremfya and Stelara. While Stelara faces biosimilar competition, J&J continues to strengthen its position with Tremfya, which is approved across multiple immunology indications, including UC and CD. The company also recently gained FDA approval for Icotyde, a new oral immunology therapy that is positioned as a direct competitor to Skyrizi.
Eli Lilly LLY is also expanding its presence in the immunology space. Its IL-23 inhibitor Omvoh is approved for both UC and CD, broadening Eli Lilly’s footprint in the fast-growing IBD market.

Will Skyrizi & Rinvoq Continue to Drive AbbVie's Topline Through 2026?

(RTTNews) - Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) has expanded U.S. availability of its TECNIS PureSee intraocular lens (IOL), an extended depth of focus option designed to support visual clarity and quality for patients undergoing cataract surgery.
The company said the broader rollout will help more surgeons and patients access a lens that has already been implanted in more than 500,000 eyes worldwide, with 97% of patients recommending it to others.
Cataracts affect nearly 20% of Americans aged 40 and older, and while cataract surgery is one of the safest and most common procedures— with a success rate near 98%— the choice of lens implanted during surgery plays a major role in determining how well patients see afterward. Many patients also experience presbyopia, the age-related loss of near-vision ability, making lens selection even more important for daily activities such as reading, driving, and using digital devices.
The TECNIS PureSee IOL is built on Johnson & Johnson's TECNIS platform and is designed to support visual clarity and quality across a range of distances. It is the first and only FDA-approved extended-depth-of-focus lens without a warning for loss of contrast sensitivity, an important factor for visual performance in low light or foggy conditions.
The company noted that the lens maintains contrast sensitivity comparable to an aspheric monofocal IOL while providing an extended depth of focus, addressing both cataract-related vision loss and presbyopia in a single procedure.
Johnson & Johnson said the expanded rollout reflects its commitment to innovation in surgical vision and to helping patients make informed decisions about their care. Erin Powers, President, Surgical Vision, North America, Johnson & Johnson stated that patients increasingly want vision solutions that align with their lifestyle needs, and the company aims to support that decision-making process. As part of Cataract Awareness Month, Johnson & Johnson has also introduced a lifestyle-based vision quiz to help patients better understand their visual priorities and discuss appropriate lens options with their eye-care professionals.
Cataract surgeons who participated in clinical evaluations reported that TECNIS PureSee demonstrated similar or even fewer night-vision symptoms compared with monofocal lenses, while offering the added benefit of extended depth of focus. Daniel Chang, MD, Cataract and Refractive Surgeon, Empire Eye & Laser Center, who served as an investigator, described the lens as a "landmark advancement" for the TECNIS platform.
JNJ has traded between $149.04 and $251.71 over the past year. The stock closed Wednesday's trading at $238.49, up 0.63%. In pre-market trading the stock is at $239.59, up 0.45%.

J&J Expands U.S. Availability Of TECNIS PureSee IOL For Cataract Patients

(RTTNews) - Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) on Thursday said it is expanding the U.S. rollout of its TECNIS PureSee intraocular lens, an extended depth of focus lens designed to improve vision for patients undergoing cataract surgery.
The company said TECNIS PureSee is the first and only U.S. Food and Drug Administration-approved extended depth of focus intraocular lens without a warning on loss of contrast sensitivity, a measure of a patient's ability to distinguish objects from their background, particularly in low-light conditions.
Johnson & Johnson said the lens provides strong distance and intermediate vision with some near vision, while 97% of patients reported no very bothersome visual disturbances.
"With the full U.S. availability of TECNIS PureSee IOL, we are expanding access to an important extended depth of focus option that reflects our commitment to innovation, visual quality, and patient satisfaction," said Erin Powers, President, Surgical Vision, North America, Johnson & Johnson.

Johnson & Johnson Expands U.S. Rollout Of TECNIS PureSee Lens

(RTTNews) - Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) reported that its IMAAVY (nipocalimab-aahu) delivered a rapid and durable improvement in hemoglobin levels in patients with warm autoimmune hemolytic anemia (wAIHA), marking a significant step forward for a rare autoimmune disease with no FDA-approved treatments.
The company presented the first comprehensive results from the Phase 2/3 ENERGY study, showing that patients receiving the 30 mg/kg dose achieved a statistically significant and sustained hemoglobin response compared with placebo.
Durable Hemoglobin Gains With Early Onset of Effect
According to the data, patients treated with IMAAVY experienced:
-a mean hemoglobin improvement of at least 1 g/dL as early as Week 1.
-approximately three times as many durable hemoglobin responses vs. placebo by Week 24.
-improvements in fatigue and reductions in corticosteroid use, based on patient-reported outcomes and clinical measures.
The therapy is designed to target pathogenic IgG autoantibodies—the antibodies responsible for destroying red blood cells in wAIHA—while preserving overall immune function.
Bruno Fattizzo, M.D., of the University of Milan noted that the rapid and durable improvements observed in the study could help address the debilitating fatigue commonly experienced by people living with wAIHA.
Understanding the ENERGY Study
The randomized, placebo-controlled ENERGY trial evaluated IMAAVY against a stringent primary endpoint requiring:
- hemoglobin increase of greater than or equal to 2 g/dL
- hemoglobin greater than or equal to 10 g/dL
-maintained for at least three visits over 28 days beginning by Week 16
-without rescue therapy or changes to background medications
Why wAIHA Represents a High Unmet Need
Warm autoimmune hemolytic anemia is a rare, life-threatening condition in which the immune system mistakenly destroys red blood cells. Patients often experience severe fatigue, shortness of breath, and cardiovascular strain.
Despite its seriousness, there are currently no FDA-approved therapies for wAIHA, leaving patients dependent on steroids, immunosuppressants, or transfusions— options that may be ineffective or poorly tolerated.
