The ProTax segment provides Lacerte, ProSeries, and ProFile desktop tax-preparation software products; and ProConnect Tax Online tax products, electronic tax filing service, and bank products and related services. Shares of financial software maker Intuit (NASDAQ: INTU) have taken a massive beating this year. While the S&P 500's year-to-date return is about flat, Intuit stock has plunged. Indeed, shares traded as low as $349 at one point this year. While the stock is now trading well above this low, it's still down more than 30% year to date.
This dramatic underperformance comes as investors grow increasingly concerned about the potential for artificial intelligence (AI) to disrupt software business models like Intuit's.

But the company's actual financial results haven't been negatively impacted by AI so far. If anything, Intuit has benefited from AI.
So, what should investors make of the recent volatility in Intuit stock?
Robust growth despite the fears
Based on the market's severe reaction, you might assume Intuit's core business is struggling.
But the underlying business continues to execute very well.
In its second quarter of fiscal 2026, the company delivered robust revenue growth, with the top line rising 17% year over year to $4.7 billion.
And the company is highly profitable, generating $6 billion in free cash flow in fiscal 2025. Cash flow like this can help the company to invest heavily in its own platforms to fortify its competitive advantages with its own AI features -- and it's doing exactly that.
The company has rolled out AI agents to assist its customers, and Intuit CEO Sasan Goodarzi said in its most recentearnings callthat more than three million customers have "leveraged agents to do the work for them..."
"In January alone, our accounting agents saved time and delivered impact for our customers by categorizing over 237 million transactions," Goodarzi added. "This represents over half of all the transactions categorized that month."
If you were to ask management if AI is a threat, they'd probably say it's a catalyst.
"Our disruptive AI-native mid-market platform is fueling the success of growing businesses and we are further scaling our investment, product innovation, and go-to-market motions to accelerate customer adoption," Goodarzi said in the company's fiscal second-quarterearnings call
Don't get too excited
However, Intuit's forward-looking guidance points to a near-term slowdown. Management forecast Intuit's upcoming fiscal third-quarter revenue to grow by approximately 10% year over year, representing a notable deceleration from its most recent period.
While the company is notoriously conservative with its guidance, this is still something worth watching.
Ultimately, however, it is possible that Intuit proves -- one quarter at a time -- that its business won't be impaired by AI and may even benefit from it.
But the future remains uncertain, and the market is clearly not ready to give the software giant the benefit of the doubt. When technological shifts occur this rapidly, investors often demand a wider margin of safety.
Understanding valuation risk
This brings us to the core issue driving Intuit's recent decline: valuation risk.
For stocks trading at premium valuations, the underlying business doesn't have to fail for the stock price to collapse.
Sometimes, the market simply decides that a company no longer deserves such a robust premium, and the stock gets rerated lower even as the fundamentals continue compounding nicely.
Before this 2026 software sell-off began, Intuit stock was arguably priced for absolute perfection. Even after the recent haircut, the stock still commands a price-to-earnings ratio of about 30. A valuation like this assumes years of steady double-digit earnings growth.
But with AI introducing a structural unknown into the software landscape, that predictability is exactly what investors are questioning.
If the market continues to recalibrate what it is willing to pay for software earnings in an AI-driven world, shares could remain under pressure.
Prepare for volatility
So, how much further could Intuit stock fall?
While there's no way to know exactly what the stock will do in the near term, investors should be prepared for a bumpy ride. The risk of AI disrupting software is not going anywhere, so the stock's elevated volatility is likely here to stay.
It is entirely possible that shares could test those $349 levels again if broader market sentiment sours or if the company's growth rate shows further deceleration.
With all of this said, shares are certainly more attractive today than they were last year. For investors who believe Intuit will successfully navigate the AI transition, a small position could make sense here given the company's recent robust revenue growth.

Intuit, Inc.’s INTU shares gained 18.3% since the earnings announcement through yesterday’s closing session. The company reported second-quarter fiscal 2026 results, with revenues and earnings per share (EPS) beating the Zacks Consensus Estimate.
The software leader behind TurboTax, QuickBooks, Credit Karma and Mailchimp has been a long-term winner in financial technology. The question now is whether this share price increase signals upside, suggests a period of holding or creates a selling opportunity. Let us delve deeper and find out.
What’s in Favor of INTU Stock?
The company posted solid second-quarter fiscal 2026 results, with revenues of $4.65 billion rising 17% year over year. The uptick implies continued demand across its small business and consumer ecosystems. Profitability strengthened as non-GAAP operating income grew 23% to $1.55 billion and non-GAAP EPS advanced 25% to $4.15. This performance underscores how its artificial intelligence (AI) and human intelligence (HI) platform innovation fuels the company’s growth and delivers significant customer benefits.
In the quarter, Global Business Solutions generated $3.2 billion in revenues, up 18% year over year, or 21% excluding Mailchimp, while Online Ecosystem revenues grew 21% or 25%, excluding Mailchimp. This growth is underpinned by sustained momentum in mid-market, with Online Ecosystem revenues for QBO Advanced and Intuit Enterprise Suite increasing 40%. The Consumer Group delivered a solid performance, with $1.5 billion in revenues, up 15% year over year, driven by Credit Karma revenue growth of 23%. ProTax revenues grew 7%. Although, overall IRS returns for this tax season were down more than 5 points through Feb. 6, the company delivered 12% TurboTax revenue growth in second-quarter fiscal 2026.
Intuit’s momentum is fueled by three big bets that represent the company's largest growth vectors across $300 billion in TAM, where its penetration is 6%. The first bet is delivering done-for-you experiences, powered by AI and HI, creating a category. The second is accelerating money benefits by putting money at the center of everything it does for its consumers and businesses. And third, fueling mid-market success with a disruptive AI-native ERP platform.
The company’s board approved a quarterly dividend of $1.20 per share, payable April 17, 2026. This represents a 15% increase per share from the same period last year. In the second quarter of fiscal 2026, the company repurchased $961 million in stock. Given the current stock price and strong confidence in the momentum of its business, the company is continuing to meaningfully increase its share repurchases this year.
What INTU Expects for FY26?
Intuit reiterated its fiscal 2026 guidance, projecting revenues between $20.997 billion and $21.186 billion, indicating 12-13% growth. the non-GAAP EPS is expected between $22.98 and $23.18, suggesting a 14% to 15% rally.
Intuit expects Global Business Solutions revenues to grow 14-15% for fiscal 2026. Within the Consumer segment, the company forecasts 8-9% revenue growth, with TurboTax growth expected to be 8%, Credit Karma is projected to rise 10-13%, and ProTax is anticipated to increase between 2% and 3%.
The company continues to focus on improving go-to-market and product experience. It now expects Mailchimp to return to double-digit growth sometime beyond fiscal 2026.

WTI crude (CLJ26) soared more than +8% at a 19.5-month high, fueling inflation concerns and sending bond yields higher. However, crude prices fell by more than $3 a barrel from their high in late trading Thursday afternoon when US Secretary of the Interior Burgum said the government is considering emergency measures to stabilize crude prices. The 10-year T-note yield rose to a 3-week high on Thursday of 4.15%.

Losses in stocks were contained amid underlying support from some of Thursday’s positive economic and corporate news. Weekly US jobless claims rose less than expected, and Q4 nonfarm productivity rose more than expected. Also, Broadcom rose by more than +5% after CEO Tan said the company expects AI chip sales to top $100 billion next year. In addition, strength in software stocks on Thursday limited losses in the broader market.
The US-Israeli war on Iran entered a sixth day on Thursday with Iran pledging to escalate its retaliation. Arab states across the Persian Gulf reported interceptions of Iranian missiles and drones overnight and into Thursday.
Crude prices continued to climb and posted a 19.5-month high Thursday as the Strait of Hormuz remains closed, halting most energy shipments from the Persian Gulf. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has warned ships not to sail through the passageway, saying that vessels "could be at risk from missiles or rogue drones." The closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which handles a fifth of the world's oil, has curbed exports and forced Gulf producers to stockpile the crude locally in storage tanks. Iraq, OPEC's second-largest producer, shut down oil production at its largest oil fields in Rumalia as local storage tanks filled up. Also, Kayrros reported on Wednesday that four of six tanks at Saudi Arabia's Ras Tanura refinery were full, and the Ju'aymah terminal on the country's east coast is quickly running out of spare capacity. Goldman Sachs estimates the real-time risk premium for crude oil at $18/bbl, corresponding to its estimate of the impact of a six-week full halt to tanker traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.
In addition, damage from an intercepted Iranian drone caused a major fire on Tuesday at the United Arab Emirates' major oil-trading hub, Fujairah, one of the largest oil storage centers in the Middle East. European natural gas prices surged to a 3-year high on Tuesday after Qatar shut its Ras Laffan plant, the world's largest natural gas export facility, after it was targeted by an Iranian drone attack. The Ras Laffan plant accounts for about 20% of the global liquefied natural gas supply. On Thursday, China told its largest refiner to suspend exports of diesel and gasoline due to the escalating conflict in the Persian Gulf, which will tighten global fuel supplies and push fuel prices even higher.
US Feb Challenger job cuts fell -71.9% y/y to 48,307.
US weekly initial unemployment claims were unchanged at 213,000, showing a slightly stronger labor market than expectations of 215,000.
Q4 nonfarm productivity rose +2.8%, better than expectations of +1.9%. Q4 unit labor costs rose by +2.8%, stronger than expectations of +2.0%.
Hawkish comments today from Richmond Fed President Tom Barkin were bearish for stocks when he said recent and expected data reflect "a couple months of relatively high inflation," which "certainly puts pause to any conclusion that we're done fighting this."
This week's market focus will be on US-Iran war news, corporate earnings, and economic news. On Friday, Feb nonfarm payrolls are expected to increase by +60,000, and the Feb unemployment rate is expected to remain unchanged at 4.3%. Also, Feb average hourly earnings are expected to increase by +0.3% m/m and +3.7% y/y. In addition, Feb retail sales are expected to fall -0.3% m/m and Feb retail sales ex-autos are expected to remain unchanged m/m.
Q4 earnings season is nearing its end, with more than 90% of the S&P 500 companies having reported earnings results. Earnings have been a positive factor for stocks, with 73% of the 481 S&P 500 companies that have reported beating expectations. According to Bloomberg Intelligence, S&P earnings growth is expected to climb by +8.4% in Q4, marking the tenth consecutive quarter of year-over-year growth. Excluding the Magnificent Seven megacap technology stocks, Q4 earnings are expected to increase by +4.6%.
The markets are discounting a 4% chance for a -25 bp rate cut at the next policy meeting on March 17-18.
Overseas stock markets settled mixed on Thursday. The Euro Stoxx 50 closed down -1.50%. China’s Shanghai Composite closed up +0.64%. Japan’s Nikkei Stock 225 closed up +1.90%.
Interest Rates
June 10-year T-notes (ZNM6) on Thursday closed down by -16 ticks. The 10-year T-note yield rose by +3.5 bp to 4.131%. Jun T-notes fell to a 3-week low on Thursday, and the 10-year T-note yield rose to a 3-week high of 4.148%. Growing inflation fears are weighing on T-note prices after WTI crude oil rallied to a 19.5-month high Thursday, boosting inflation expectations, with the 10-year breakeven rate climbing to a 3-week high of 2.329%. Also, Thursday’s US economic reports, which showed weekly jobless claims rose less than expected, and Q4 unit labor costs rose more than expected, were hawkish for Fed policy and bearish for T-notes.
European government bond yields moved higher on Thursday. The 10-year German bund yield rose to a 3.5-week high of 2.854% and finished up +9.1 bp to 2.841%. The 10-year UK gilt yield climbed toa 3.5-week high of 4.558% and finished up +10.1 bp to 4.542%.
Eurozone Jan retail sales unexpectedly fell -0.1% m/m, weaker than expectations of +0.3% m/m
ECB Vice President Luis de Guindos said a prolonged conflict in the Middle East would risk pushing inflation expectations higher.
ECB Governing Council member and Bundesbank President Joachim Nagel said inflation is a bigger concern than economic growth as the ECB assesses the implications of the war in Iran.
Swaps are discounting a 5% chance of a -25 bp rate hike by the ECB at its next policy meeting on March 19.

Chipmakers and AI-infrastructure stocks were under pressure on Thursday, weighing on the broader market. Each week we monitor the week-over-week change in shares outstanding data, to keep a lookout for those ETFs experiencing notable inflows (many new units created) or outflows (many old units destroyed). Creation of new units will mean the underlying holdings of the ETF need to be purchased, while destruction of units involves selling underlying holdings, so large flows can also impact the individual components held within ETFs.

QLD, SHOP, CMCSA, INTU: ETF Outflow Alert

The S&P 500 Index ($SPX) (SPY) on Tuesday closed down -0.94%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average ($DOWI) (DIA) closed down -0.83%, and the Nasdaq 100 Index ($IUXX) (QQQ) closed down -1.09%. March E-mini S&P futures (ESH26) fell -0.94%, and March E-mini Nasdaq futures (NQH26) fell -1.11%.
Stock indexes settled lower on Tuesday with the S&P 500 falling to a 3.25-month low, the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropping to a 2.75-month low, and the Nasdaq 100 sliding to a 3.5-month low.

Global stock markets retreated, and crude oil prices and bond yields rose on Tuesday as the war in Iran entered its fourth day with no sign of de-escalation, bolstering fears of a prolonged disruption to energy markets and a surge in inflation.
However, crude oil prices fell back from their best levels on Tuesday, and stocks recovered from their worst levels, after President Trump said he ordered the US Development Finance Corporation "to provide, at a very reasonable price, political risk insurance and guarantees for the financial security of all maritime trade, especially energy, traveling through the Gulf." He also said, "If necessary, the US Navy will begin escorting tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, as soon as possible."
WTI crude oil (CLJ26) rose more than +4% to an 8.5-month high after an adviser to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commander told state TV that “we will set fire to any ship attempting to pass through” the Strait of Hormuz, which runs along Iran's coast and handles a fifth of the world's oil. The closure of the Strait of Hormuz has forced Iraq, OPEC's second-largest producer, to shut down oil production at its largest oil fields in Rumalia as storage tanks fill up. Goldman Sachs estimates the real-time risk premium for crude oil at $18/bbl, corresponding to its estimate of the impact of a six-week full halt to tanker traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.
Also, falling debris from an intercepted Iranian drone caused a major fire at the United Arab Emirates' major oil-trading hub, Fujairah, one of the largest oil storage centers in the Middle East. European natural gas prices rose more than +22% on Tuesday to a 3-year high after Qatar shut its Ras Laffan plant, the world's largest natural gas export facility, after it was targeted by an Iranian drone attack. The Ras Laffan plant accounts for about 20% of the global liquefied natural gas supply.
President Trump said Monday that combat operations against Iran could last for weeks until all objectives were completed. President Trump has called for Iran’s leaders to capitulate, but Iran’s security chief said that it has no intention of negotiating with the US.
Kansas City Fed President Jeff Schmid said, "Inflation has been above the Fed's objective for nearly five years now, so I don't think we have room to be complacent."
NY Fed President John Williams said additional Fed interest rate cuts will be warranted if inflation slows further once most of the impact of tariffs has passed.
This week's market focus will be on US-Iran war news, corporate earnings, and economic news. On Wednesday, the Feb ADP employment change is expected to increase by +50,000. Also, the Feb ISM services index is expected to slip by -0.3 to 53.5. In addition, the Fed releases its Beige Book. On Thursday, weekly initial unemployment claims are expected to increase by +3,000 to 215,000. Also, Q4 nonfarm productivity is expected to be up +1.8%, and Q4 unit labor costs are expected to be up +2.0%. On Friday, Feb nonfarm payrolls are expected to increase by +60,000, and the Feb unemployment rate is expected to remain unchanged at 4.3%. Also, Feb average hourly earnings are expected to increase by +0.3% m/m and +3.7% y/y. In addition, Feb retail sales are expected to fall -0.3% m/m and Feb retail sales ex-autos are expected to remain unchanged m/m.
Q4 earnings season is nearing its end, with more than 90% of the S&P 500 companies having reported earnings results. Earnings have been a positive factor for stocks, with 73% of the 481 S&P 500 companies that have reported beating expectations. According to Bloomberg Intelligence, S&P earnings growth is expected to climb by +8.4% in Q4, marking the tenth consecutive quarter of year-over-year growth. Excluding the Magnificent Seven megacap technology stocks, Q4 earnings are expected to increase by +4.6%.
The markets are discounting a 2% chance for a -25 bp rate cut at the next policy meeting on March 17-18.
Overseas stock markets settled sharply lower on Tuesday. The Euro Stoxx 50 fell to a 2-month low and closed down -3.59%. China’s Shanghai Composite fell from a 10.5-year high and closed down -1.43%. Japan’s Nikkei Stock 225 dropped to a 3-week low and closed down -3.06%.
Interest Rates
June 10-year T-notes (ZNM6) on Tuesday closed down by -2 ticks. The 10-year T-note yield rose +1.9 bp to 4.054%. June T-notes tumbled to a 2-week low on Tuesday, and the 10-year T-note yield jumped to a 2-week high of 4.115%. Soaring energy prices on Tuesday sparked inflation concerns and weighed on T-note prices, with WTI crude oil up more than +4% to an 8.5-month high. The 10-year breakeven inflation rate rose to a 2-week high of 2.318% on Tuesday.
T-notes recovered from their worst levels after the stock sell-off prompted some safe-haven buying of government debt. Also, crude prices fell from early highs after President Trump said the US would provide insurance guarantees and naval escorts for oil tankers and other vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.
European government bond yields moved higher on Tuesday. The 10-year German bund yield rose to a 2.5-week high of 2.814% and finished up +4.0 bp to 2.752%. The 10-year UK gilt yield climbed to a 3-week high of 4.553% and finished up +9.7 bp to 4.471%.
The Eurozone Feb CPI rose +1.9% y/y, stronger than expectations of +1.7% y/y. Feb core CPI rose +2.4% y/y, stronger than expectations of +2.2% y/y.
Swaps are discounting a 0% chance of a -25 bp rate cut by the ECB at its next policy meeting on March 19.
US Stock Movers
Chipmakers and AI-infrastructure stocks sold off on Tuesday, weighing on the broader market. Sandisk (SNDK) closed down more than -8% to lead losers in the S&P 500, and Micron Technology (MU) closed down more than -7% to lead losers in the Nasdaq 100. Also, Western Digital (WDC) closed down more than -7%, and KLA Corp (KLAC) closed down more than -6%. In addition, Applied Materials (AMAT), Lam Research (LRCX), Seagate Technology Holdings Plc (STX), and Intel (INTC) closed down more than -5%, and ASML Holding NV (ASML), NXP Semiconductors NV (NXPI), and Marvell Technology (MRVL) closed down more than -4%. Finally, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), Analog Devices (ADI), and Texas Instruments (TXN) closed down more than -3%.
Mining stocks plunged on Tuesday as gold prices fell more than -3% and silver prices sank more than -6%. Hecla Mining (HL) closed down more than -11%, and Coeur Mining (CDE) and Anglogold Ashanti (AU) closed down more than -10%. Also, Barrick Mining (B) closed down more than -8%, Newmont Corp (NEM) closed down more than -7%, and Freeport McMoRan (FCX) closed down more than -3%
Cryptocurrency-exposed stocks slid on Tuesday as Bitcoin (^BTCUSD) fell more than -1%. MARA Holdings (MARA) closed down more than -8%, and Riot Platforms (RIOT) closed down more than -7%. Also, Galaxy Digital Holdings (GLXY) closed down more than -5%, Strategy (MSTR) closed down more than -3%, and Coinbase Global (COIN) closed down more than -1%.
Software stocks rallied on Tuesday to limit losses in the broader market. Workday (WDAY) closed up more than +7% to lead gainers in the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100. Also, Thomson Reuters (TRI) closed up more than +5%, and Adobe Systems (ADBE) closed up more than -4%. In addition, ServiceNow (NOW) and Intuit (INTU) closed up more than +3%, and International Business Machines (IBM) closed up more than +2% to lead gainers in the Dow Jones Industrials. Finally, Autodesk (ADSK) closed up more than +2%, and Salesforce (CRM), Microsoft (MSFT), and Palantir Technologies (PLTR) closed up more than +1%.
MongoDB (MDB) closed down more than -22% after forecasting 2027 revenue of $2.86 billion to $2.90 billion, below the consensus of $2.90 billion.
Sea Lt. (SE) closed down more than -16% after reporting Q4 net income of$410.9 million, weaker than the consensus of $442 million.
Credo Technology Group Holding Ltd (CRDO) closed down more than -14% after forecasting Q4 revenue of $425 million to 435 million, the midpoint below the consensus of $430.5 million.
Surgery Partners (SGRY) closed down more than -12% after forecasting full-year revenue of $3.35 billion to $3.45 billion, well below the consensus of $3.56 billion.
ON Holding AG (ONON) closed down more than -6% after forecasting full-year net sales at constant currencies up +23%, below the consensus of +25.8%.
Pinterest (PINS) closed up more than +9% after authorizing a new $3.5 billion share repurchase program and announcing a $1 billion strategic investment from Elliot Investment Management.
Best Buy (BBY) closed up more than +7% after reporting Q4 adjusted EPS of $2.61, stronger than the consensus of $2.46.
Target (TGT) closed up more than +6% after forecasting full-year adjusted EPS of $7.50 to $8.50, the midpoint above the consensus of $7.61.
Akami Technologies (AKAM) closed up more than +4% after Streaming Media Blog reported that the company has notified customers of upcoming interim surcharges and pricing adjustments for contract renewals.
