Honda Motor Company, Ltd.

Honda Motor Co., Ltd. HMC is set to acquire a factory building and related assets in Ohio from South Korea’s LG Energy Solution (“LGES”) in a deal valued at about $2.86 billion. The transaction, which excludes land and equipment, is intended to enhance operational efficiency at their joint venture, per a regulatory filing. The final price may change following due diligence and exchange-rate adjustments, with completion targeted for Feb. 28.
In 2022, Honda Motor and LGES selected Ohio for their planned $4.4 billion joint-venture (JV) battery plant. Through the purchase of the building assets, Honda said that it can make a long-term commitment to battery production and remain flexible in supplying batteries not only for electric vehicles but also for hybrids, per Reuters.
The transaction will be structured as a sale-and-leaseback, with Honda’s U.S. subsidiary buying the facility and leasing it back to the JV. The plant is expected to begin full-scale operations next year, producing batteries for Honda and its premium Acura brand in North America.
The move follows LGES’ announcement last week that Ford Motor had terminated an EV battery supply agreement valued at about 9.6 trillion won.

Honda to Buy Ohio Battery Plant Assets From LGES for $2.9B

(RTTNews) - Honda Motor Co. Ltd. (HMC, 7267.T) announced a summary of automobile production, Japan domestic sales, and export results for the month of November 2025. Total World Production was 218,927 units compared to 329,978 units, prior year. Production in Japan was 60,605 units compared to 63,850 units, a year ago. The company noted that it is the second consecutive month of year-over-year decrease in Worldwide production.
For the Jan.- Nov. 2025 period, World total Production was 3,112,896 units compared to 3,456,125 units, previous year. Production in Japan was 628,385 units compared to 636,946 units.

HMC Crosses Above Key Moving Average Level

SoundHound AI (NASDAQ: SOUN) has become one of the hottest stocks on Wall Street, rising around 170% since the start of November 2024. However, it's well off the peaks of its huge run, as it was up nearly 400% at the end of December.

So, does this stock have the capability to do it? After all, one other artificial intelligence (AI) stock has already made many investors millionaires.
Its software could find use in many industries
Becoming a millionaire from one stock pick may seem like a far-fetched dream to some people, but it is entirely possible. If you invested $10,000 in Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) stock a decade ago, you would now have $2.55 million, as long as you held on and never sold.Is it possible that SoundHound could have that kind of upside? Let's take a look.
SoundHound AI's software is all about audio recognition and using that input for an AI model. Most of the generative AI models we've interacted with so far use text inputs. However, users must have access to a keyboard for this to work. That's not always a practical application.
Some customers may prefer talking to a voice (think of a drive-thru at a restaurant) or need to probe an AI assistant while driving (even if the car is fully self-driving, do you really want a keyboard in the vehicle?). This is where SoundHound's technology comes in, and it has already landed some big clients.
SoundHound's software has already been integrated into Stellantis vehicles in Europe and Japan. This is a massive auto brand, and if this technology becomes a hit, it's very likely that other automakers will partner with SoundHound as well. Many restaurants have also partnered with SoundHound to deploy its technology to integrate AI in drive-thrus and online order-taking.
All this has allowed SoundHound to develop a diversified revenue stream, where none of the sectors in its business (automotive, restaurants, financial services, healthcare, and insurance) makes up more than 25% of the total. That's a key improvement, as 72% of revenue came from one client in the automotive sector during last year's third quarter (presumably Stellantis).
SoundHound also has huge growth aspirations. It expects revenue to double in 2024, and to double again in 2025, with preliminary guidance coming in at $165 million in sales (compared to $83 million in 2024). That's massive growth, and it also sees fantastic revenue growth beyond that point.
A company's booking backlog describes the value remaining on current contracts it has signed. While this is not guaranteed revenue, it gives investors an idea of how much growth they can expect moving forward. SoundHound's backlog now exceeds $1 billion and is spread out over a six-year timeframe. That's strong projected revenue, and as the use cases for its technology increase, this backlog figure will likely rise.
The stock would need to reach unprecedented levels
But is that enough to make you a millionaire?
First, we need to set a base investment amount. We'll use $10,000 because that's what I used in the Nvidia example above. To turn $10,000 into $1 million, a stock needs to rise 100 times in value. Currently, SoundHound is a $5.4 billion company, which means it would be valued at around $540 billion if it achieved that feat.
So, what companies are valued at that threshold right now? That would put SoundHound in the same valuation range as Mastercard ($515 billion) and Oracle ($496 billion). Those are incredibly dominant companies that serve the whole globe, so this may be an unrealistic expectation.
For further comparison, some of the largest software companies in the market right now are Salesforce ($310 billion) and Adobe ($199 billion). SoundHound's current revenue looks like a rounding error for these companies, even if its strong 2025 growth is incorporated.
So, is SoundHound likely to make you a millionaire from a $10,000 investment? Probably not. But that doesn't mean it can't be a good investment. It has a strong product offering and is tackling an important niche in AI integration throughout society. It has strong growth ahead, but there are still a lot of risks involved in the stock, as other companies could easily offer an audio recognition platform that rivals SoundHound's.
If you decide to invest in SoundHound, understand there's a high risk, but if it works out, there's also a high reward.

For fiscal 2025, R&D costs are expected at ¥1.2 trillion, implying an uptick from ¥976 billion recorded in fiscal 2024. Capital expenditure for fiscal 2025 is expected to jump 54.7% to ¥600 billion. Notably, Honda is investing $65 billion (¥10 trillion) over the ten-year period through 2030. While such massive spending might boost long-term prospects, near term cash flows could be under pressure.
Honda's profits are adversely affected by the unfavorable currency effects. In the first nine months of fiscal 2025, the currency effects negatively affected operating profit by ¥56.3 billion. In fiscal 2025, the currency effects are likely to hit operating profit by ¥100.5 billion.
The company’s rising debt levels are concerning. Long-term debt was around ¥6.76 trillion as of Dec. 31, 2024, up from ¥6.05 trillion as of March 31, 2024. While the long-term debt to capital ratio is manageable at 0.33, the figure is higher than the industry’s 0.27.

Honda Motor Enters Oversold Territory (HMC)

(RTTNews) - Honda Motor Co., Ltd. (HMC, 7267.T) Monday said that its global automobile production increased 104 percent in September this year to 310,275 units from the 298,845 units produced in the same period a year ago.
The Japanese automaker said that production in Japan totalled 65,587 units, up 106.3 percent from the 61,707 units in the last year period. Looking at the six-month period from April-September, Japan's production touched 335,935 units, a 99 percent surge from 338,175 units produced in September 2024.
According to Honda Motors, production outside of Japan stood at 244,688 units in September, up 103.2 percent from 237,138 units made in the prior-year period. For the six-month period, however, overseas production totalled 1,373,355 units, down 93.1 percent from the 1,475,413 units in the same period last year.
The company said that from April to September 2025, total global production reached 1,709,290 units, a 94.2 percent drop from previous year's production of 1,813,588 units. Honda Motors said that during the month of September, sales in the Japanese market fell 94 percent to 63,754 units from the 67,982 units sold a year ago. For the half-year period, total sales amounted to 293,055 units, an 88.4 percent decline from 331,544 units sold in the same month of fiscal 2024.
On the NYSE, HMC ended Friday's trading at $31.52, down 0.22 percent. In overnight trading, the stock is up 1 percent at $31.81.

In an era where anything you say can and likely will be used against you at some point in time, that quote comes from none other than Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) CEO Elon Musk. This statement came back in 2023 while Musk was discussing removing vehicle cost. Almost exactly two years later, it's looking pretty ironic as Tesla makes significant cost-cuts by removing features for its Model 3 and Model Y to introduce a new "standard" base vehicle model.
Was it the right move? Let's look at the vehicle alterations, the value proposition, and the road ahead.
The game of pennies
As Tesla scrambles to pinch pennies from its existing Model 3 and Model Y to again create new standard models, it's estimated the company slashed roughly $5,000 from its newly introduced lower-priced model trims. Some cost cuts seemed like no-brainers; others sparked debate over whether the company took too much value out, leaving consumers with a Tesla unworthy of its luxury brand image.
Perhaps the largest cut, in terms of estimated dollars saved, came from reducing the battery capacity by roughly 10%, which saved an estimated $1,500. Tesla also threw on new wheels that were 1 inch smaller and replaced frequency-selective dampers with passive shock absorbers for another $700. A less powerful motor reduced cost by roughly $600, and smaller moves such as no ventilated seats, fewer speakers, less ambient lighting, and no rear infotainment screen, among others, generated the rest of the cost savings. There were even some head-scratchers including the Model 3 retaining the panoramic glass roof, while the Model Y keeps the glass but covers it with a headliner.
Results and responses
After the notable cost-cutting and feature removals, the Model Y Standard now starts at $39,990 and $41,630 with shipping, roughly $5,000 less than the previous base trim. The Model 3 Standard is about $5,500 cheaper starting at $38,630 with shipping.
The initial response hasn't been as inspiring as investors had hoped. "The most obvious change is the loss of the whipcrack response to the prod of the throttle," Edmunds said while reviewing the Model Y base trim compared with the previous version. "The languid response now feels more like a Honda CR-V than a traditional Tesla."
"You look at this new stripped-out Model Y and it's like, God, look at all the penny-pinching," said Ed Kim, chief analyst at AutoPacific, according to Automotive News. Ryan Shaw, with a YouTube channel focused on electric vehicles and Tesla, said the new base trim "might exist so that Tesla can get people to upgrade." He continued, "They can say the car starts at this low price, but really want you to upgrade."
What it all means
For investors, the cost reduction and feature alterations may bring more questions than answers. For only a $5,000 price difference, is the new Standard trim a better value to consumers, or is it just slightly cheaper giving a niche audience the lowest cost way to drive away in a Tesla vehicle? In other words, will a $5,000 price gap convince new consumers to try the brand, incrementally increasing the pool of Tesla buyers, or will it simply cannibalize sales and lower profit margins?
Only time will give investors the answers they desire, and we're likely to hear more during Tesla's third-quarter earnings results on Oct. 22. While this is a move Tesla needed to try, it's unlikely to reverse the company's recent global sales decline, which has seen global deliveries drop about 6% over the first three quarters of 2025, compared to the prior year.
Ultimately, investors and Tesla itself are in a bit of a soul-searching transition phase as the company attempts to evolve from primarily a vehicle manufacturer to a company focused on robotaxis, self-driving vehicles, artificial intelligence (AI), and robotics. Tesla isn't about to fade into obscurity, and its best days could still be down the road, but investors need to dust off their investing thesis and see if Tesla's direction is still in alignment with theirs long-term. The world changes, companies change, and so too must your investment thesis at times.

Tesla Gets Feedback on More Affordable Models. Hint: It's Not Inspiring

Looking at the underlying holdings of the ETFs in our coverage universe at ETF Channel, we have compared the trading price of each holding against the average analyst 12-month forward target price, and computed the weighted average implied analyst target price for the ETF itself. For the First Trust Value Line Dividend Index Fund ETF (Symbol: FVD), we found that the implied analyst target price for the ETF based upon its underlying holdings is $50.73 per unit.
With FVD trading at a recent price near $46.14 per unit, that means that analysts see 9.96% upside for this ETF looking through to the average analyst targets of the underlying holdings. Three of FVD's underlying holdings with notable upside to their analyst target prices are Takeda Pharmaceutical Co Ltd (Symbol: TAK), Honda Motor Co Ltd (Symbol: HMC), and Infosys Ltd. (Symbol: INFY). Although TAK has traded at a recent price of $14.46/share, the average analyst target is 27.94% higher at $18.50/share. Similarly, HMC has 23.82% upside from the recent share price of $31.74 if the average analyst target price of $39.30/share is reached, and analysts on average are expecting INFY to reach a target price of $19.70/share, which is 20.20% above the recent price of $16.39.
