General Dynamics Corporation operates as an aerospace and defense company worldwide. It operates through four segments: Aerospace, Marine Systems, Combat Systems, and Technologies. The Aerospace segment produces and sells business jets; and offers aircraft maintenance and repair, management, aircraft-on-ground support and completion, charter, staffing, and fixed-base operator services. The Marine Systems segment designs and builds nuclear-powered submarines, surface combatants, and auxiliary ships for the United States Navy and Jones Act ships for commercial customers, as well as builds crude oil and product tankers, and container and cargo ships; provides maintenance, modernization, and lifecycle support services for navy ships; offers and program management, planning, engineering, and design support services for submarine construction programs. The Combat Systems segment manufactures land combat solutions, such as wheeled and tracked combat vehicles, Stryker wheeled combat vehicles, piranha vehicles, weapons systems, munitions, mobile bridge systems with payloads, tactical vehicles, main battle tanks, armored vehicles, and armaments; and offers modernization programs, engineering, support, and sustainment services. The Technologies segment provides information technology solutions and mission support services; mobile communication, computers, and command-and-control mission systems; intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance solutions to military, intelligence, and federal civilian customers; cloud computing, artificial intelligence; machine learning; big data analytics; development, security, and operations; and unmanned undersea vehicle manufacturing and assembly services. The company was founded in 1899 and is headquartered in Reston, Virginia.

General Dynamics appears to be a high-quality defense and industrial asset with strong profitability and moderate leverage, but the market is already pricing in a fair amount of optimism. Its P/E is below the industry median, which supports the case for a reasonable valuation; however, P/S and P/B are noticeably above industry levels, so on a multiples basis the stock does not look cheap. P/FCF is below the median — a positive sign, because free cash flow is being valued more favorably than revenue or book value. Return on capital and assets is high: ROE, ROA, and ROI are significantly above the industry, confirming the company’s ability to generate earnings efficiently from its capital and asset base. At the same time, operating margin is close to the median, while gross margin is noticeably below the industry, indicating limited pricing flexibility and a weaker gross structure than many peers. The debt burden looks comfortable: debt/equity is significantly below the median, and long-term debt has declined in recent periods, reducing financial risk. Liquidity, on the other hand, is not ideal: the quick ratio is below the industry and remains around 0.9, while the current ratio is also below the median, so the cushion in working capital cannot be considered strong. Dividend yield has been gradually declining, making the stock less attractive for purely income-oriented investors, although the dividend profile itself remains stable. The earnings and revenue trend is positive: revenue, net income, operating income, EBITDA, and equity are generally growing or remaining stable, supporting intrinsic value. EPS and forward EPS are high relative to the industry, but the forecast is below the current TTM, so expectations for further earnings acceleration appear moderate. Overall, this is not a deep undervaluation story, but rather a quality business with strong returns on capital and a valuation profile that is no longer especially cheap. General Dynamics Corporation GD reported second-quarter 2026 earnings of $4.24 per share, beating the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $3.95 by 7.3%. The bottom line increased 13.4% from $3.74 in the year-ago quarter, reflecting higher operating earnings and lower net interest expense.

Technologies revenues increased 4.1% year over year to $3.62 billion. Operating earnings improved 2.1% to $339 million. The operating margin declined 20 basis points to 9.4%.
Operational Highlights of GD
Operating earnings totaled $1.46 billion, up 11.9% from the year-ago quarter’s $1.31 billion.
Operating costs and expenses increased 7.7% year over year to $12.63 billion.
Interest expenses decreased 44.3% year over year to $49 million.
GD’s Backlog
General Dynamics recorded a total backlog of $186.9 billion. This includes a backlog of $136.5 billion and estimated potential contract value, representing management’s estimate of additional value in unfunded indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contracts and unexercised options of $50.4 billion.
Financial Condition of GD
As of July 5, 2026, cash and cash equivalents totaled $4.33 billion compared with $2.33 billion as of Dec. 31, 2025.
The long-term debt as of the same date was $6.26 billion compared with the 2025-end debt level of $7.01 billion.
During the first six months of 2026, cash generated by operating activities totaled $4.04 billion compared with $1.45 billion in the year-ago period.
