The Energy Services segment provides physical commodity marketing and logistical services to refiners, producers, and other customers in Canada and the United States. The company was formerly known as IPL Energy Inc. and changed its name to Enbridge Inc. in October 1998. Enbridge Inc. was founded in 1949 and is headquartered in Calgary, Canada.

1. Ares Capital
Ares Capital (NASDAQ: ARCC) is the largest publicly traded business development company (BDC). It provides financing to middle-market businesses and has generated total returns since its initial public offering in 2004 that are roughly 40% higher than those of the S&P 500 (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC).
BDCs must return at least 90% of their profits to shareholders as dividends to be exempt from federal income taxes. Ares Capital's forward dividend yield is a lofty 10.5%. The company typically pays a high yield. It's even higher than normal, though, because BDC stocks are under significant pressure, in part because of concerns that artificial intelligence (AI) will disrupt the business models of software companies in its portfolio.
Around 24% of Ares Capital's portfolio companies operate in the software and services industry. However, management remains confident that its clients are "highly resistant" to AI disruption. Ares Capital President Jim Miller stated in the fourth-quarterearnings callthat "there really would have to be a whole lot of value destruction that would occur before we as a lender lose a dollar."
I think the sell-off of SaaS stocks is overdone. The good news, though, is that it has created a tremendous opportunity to buy Ares Capital at a discount and lock in a fantastic yield.
2. Enbridge
Enbridge (NYSE: ENB) ranks among the most intriguing energy stocks, in my view. The company operates 18,085 miles of crude oil pipeline and 19,373 miles of natural gas pipeline. It's also the largest natural gas utility in North America by volume, serving around 7.1 million customers in five U.S. states.
Income investors should really like Enbridge's forward dividend yield of 5.3%. Even better, though, the company has increased its dividend for 31 consecutive years. That isn't the only impressive streak for Enbridge. The company has also met or exceeded its financial guidance for 20 consecutive years.
Enbridge's management team describes the business as "low-risk" and "utility-like." I agree with that characterization. After all, we're talking about a company that transports 30% of the crude oil produced in North America and 20% of the natural gas consumed in the U.S.
Will Enbridge deliver jaw-dropping growth? Probably not. However, management has identified roughly $50 billion of growth opportunities through 2030. That should translate to around 5% average annual earnings growth over the long term -- an attractive level factoring in Enbridge's high yield.
3. Realty Income
Realty Income (NYSE: O) is the sixth-largest global real estate investment trust (REIT). It owns 15,511 properties spread across all 50 U.S. states, the U.K., and eight other European countries.
Like Enbridge, Realty Income has a sterling dividend track record. The REIT has increased its dividend for 31 consecutive years. Its forward dividend yield tops 5%. One bonus of Realty Income is that it pays monthly dividends.
This REIT stock is also remarkably resilient. Realty Income has outperformed the S&P 500 during 11 of the 13 drawdowns of 10% or more since its shares began trading on the New York Stock Exchange in 1994. The company has delivered positive total operational returns (adjusted funds from operations growth plus dividend yield) for 30 years.

DraftKings Duopoly is Ending

Wall Street is a game of expectations, and lately, DraftKings has fallen short. DKNG has missed Zacks Consensus Estimates for six consecutive quarters. Over the past 4 quarters, the company has missed Zacks Consensus Analyst Estimates by a margin of 19.25%.
Meanwhile, several Wall Street analysts tracked by Zacks Investment Research have recently lowered EPS expectations for 2026 and 2027.
DKNG Technical: Relative Price Weakness & Bear Flag
Over the past year, DKNG shares have exhibited troubling relative price performance, plunging 29% while the S&P 500 has gained 26%.

Enbridge is an "all of the above" energy provider, with operations in natural gas transmission, liquid pipelines, gas utilities, and renewable energy.
"Global energy demand is growing and will require all forms of energy," CEO Greg Ebel said in a March 2025 company update. "Enbridge's diversified infrastructure footprint is uniquely positioned to meet this demand, delivering a balance of oil, natural gas and renewable power across 5 countries, 43 states, and 8 provinces."
At the current share price, its dividend yields a generous 5.2%, and the stock has had a strong run over the last year. Shares are currently near a 52-week high, making it worth considering as it tests a breakout higher.

Powering the future
Demand for power across the U.S. is only growing.
From 2025 to 2040, consulting firm McKinsey & Co. projects U.S. power demand will increase by 3.5% annually, with new data centers contributing significantly to that demand.
Enbridge is positioning itself to meet the needs of businesses and retail customers alike. For example, it's building a solar facility in Texas that is expected to be operational next summer, and Meta Platforms has signed a contract to buy all of the electricity it produces.
Its gas distribution and storage business has a strong foothold across North America. Enbridge is the largest natural gas distribution company in Canada, where it serves more than 4 million customers. It's also the largest natural gas distributor in Utah, serving 90% of the state's population.
In its Q4 2025 earnings presentation, management shared that it foresees $50 billion in potential opportunities through 2030 across all its divisions.
What to consider before investing in Enbridge
Broadly speaking, Enbridge faces many of the same risks as other energy providers, including the possibility of extreme weather disrupting operations, regulatory constraints, and geopolitical risk. But there are also company-specific issues.
When it comes to the dividend payout, investors need to be aware of Enbridge's 117% payout ratio: It's distributing more in dividends than it's earning on a GAAP (generally accepted accounting principles) net income basis. However, it's able to do that because a significant portion of its GAAP expenses come from depreciation and amortization, which are non-cash expenses. On a distributable cash flow basis, its ratio is more reasonable, and the energy company has a positive track record: It has paid dividends for over 70 years and has a streak of 31 years of consecutive dividend increases.
Still, anyone who becomes a shareholder will want to pay attention to its payout ratios and listen to management's views on the dividend's sustainability during earnings calls.
In terms of valuation, Enbridge has a forward price-to-earnings ratio of 23.5, suggesting investors expect continued growth and are willing to pay up for it. That may be a turnoff for some who are more accustomed to lower ratios in the energy sector.
In terms of stability, this isn't a stock that gets whipped around. Its beta of 0.8 means it's less volatile than the broader markets.
Overall, Enbridge's stock price can climb as the business capitalizes on rising energy demand, but it can also continue to pay its shareholders a generous dividend. Combined, for long-term investors, there's significant potential for profitable total returns from here.

Data Center Boom Drives Natural Gas Use: Will WMB, ENB & KMI Gain?

As of Wednesday night, Brent oil futures are trading at $93.63 per barrel, up 6.6% from Tuesday and up about 31% from their pre-war price of just over $71 per barrel.
It’s probably not a good idea to buy oil stocks solely because of the Iran war.
But midstream oil stocks can make attractive, income-oriented long-term investments.
While crude oil futures have come down off their highs of about $120 per barrel set early Monday, they are still elevated due to the Iran war, which began on Saturday, Feb. 28, when the United States and Israel launched a joint air attack on Iran in an operation dubbed "Operation Epic Fury."
On Wednesday night, March 11, at about 9:30 p.m. ET, Brent oil futures are trading at $93.63 per barrel, up 6.6% from Tuesday and up about 31% from their pre-war price of just over $71 per barrel. Brent is the international benchmark. West Texas Intermediary (WTI) crude oil -- the U.S. benchmark -- is trading at $93.79 on Wednesday evening, up 7.5% from Tuesday.

How high oil prices hurt consumers
The problem for consumers with high oil prices goes beyond rising gasoline prices, which get the lion's share of press attention. In addition, heating oil prices rise for those -- mostly in older areas of the Northeast -- who have oil heating.
Moreover, the cost of most products will increase because transportation costs to wholesalers and retailers rise. Farm products and other heavier products with high transportation costs tend to be particularly hard-hit. This is why high oil prices are very inflationary. Granted, a quick bleep-up in oil prices might not ignite inflation significantly, but an extended rise almost certainly will.

History has good news on oil spikes caused by geopolitical and other events: They tend to be relatively short-lived. In the case of war-driven oil price spikes, oil prices tend to subside quickly after combat operations end, sometimes even before they fully end, because the markets are forward-looking.

Oil stocks are probably not attractive as short-term investments
Yes, the relatively quick historical price spikes up and down mean it's probably not a good idea to buy oil stocks at this point solely because of the Iran war.
If you're interested in oil stocks as a long-term investment, however, that's another story. Carefully selected ones could be attractive as long-term, income-producing investments. One thing the Iran war makes clear about energy is this: The U.S. (and most of the world) is still very dependent upon oil to sustain and grow its economy.
Midstream oil stocks can make attractive, income-oriented long-term investments
As a group, the best oil stocks to invest in are typically midstream companies (which store and transport the commodity through pipelines). Their financial results are less affected by changes in oil prices because they operate on fee-based, long-term contracts. They're often called the "tollbooth collectors" in the oil industry.
Two top major midstream oil stocks are Enterprise Products Partners (NYSE: EPD) and Enbridge (NYSE: ENB). Shares are paying juicy yields of 5.91% and 5.31%, respectively. Both are worth further exploring.
There are also oil exchange-traded funds (ETFs) that invest in specific areas of the oil industry, such as midstream stocks, as well as those that invest in the broader industry.
Examples showing the duration of oil price spikes caused by wars
The Iraq war was a U.S.-led coalition that invaded Iraq, whose aim was to overthrow Saddam Hussein's regime over claims of weapons of mass destruction.

KMI has a strong growth potential from growing liquefied natural gas (LNG) demand across the globe. This is because Kinder Morgan, carrying a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold), is responsible for transporting almost 40% of the natural gas that is being supplied to the LNG export facilities of the United States.
Enbridge: The midstream giant’s business model has very low exposure to oil and natural gas price volatility, making its cash flow generation highly predictable. ENB, with a Zacks Rank of 3, stated that a significant proportion of its earnings from core operations is generated from either long-term contracts with guaranteed minimum payments or midstream networks with regulated cash flows.
Unlike upstream energy companies, Enbridge’s operations are immune to price volatility to a great extent. Thus, cash flow generation from ENB’s midstream activities is highly predictable.
The Williams Companies: The company is also a leading midstream player, well-positioned to capitalize on increasing clean energy demand. This is because WMB has a massive network of natural gas transportation pipelines that transport roughly 33% of the total natural gas used in the United States.

The company reported record financial results last year, continuing its steady growth.
The energy company has ample fuel to continue growing its earnings and dividends. That was evident in the long list of new growth capital projects it has added to its backlog in recent months. That visible growth makes Enbridge a great pipeline stock to buy and hold for income and growth potential.

Adding more fuel to its growth engine
Enbridge placed 5 billion Canadian dollars ($3.7 billion) of growth capital projects into commercial service last year. Those expansions helped grow its cash flow per share by 4%, allowing the company to increase its dividend by another 3%. They also support its expectations of growing earnings by more than 3% this year, at the midpoint of its guidance range.
The company more than replaced the projects it placed into service last year, sanctioning CA$14 billion ($10.2 billion) of new expansions throughout 2025. That includes several recent project approvals:
Mainline Optimization Phase 1 (MLO1): A $1.4 billion project to increase the capacity of its Mainline and Flanagan South Pipeline systems, which should enter commercial service in 2027.
Cowboy Phase 1: A $1.2 billion solar energy investment and battery storage facility in Wyoming to support a large technology company's operations that should start-up in 2027.
Easter: A $400 million wind project to support Meta Platform's data center operations that should begin producing later this year.
These projects added to a long list of expansions already in Enbridge's backlog. It now has CA$39 billion ($28.5 billion) of projects underway that should enter commercial service through 2033. It has projects spanning each of its four core franchises (liquids pipelines, gas transmission, gas distribution and storage, and renewable power).
Many more growth projects are in the pipeline
Enbridge has an even bigger list of potential projects under development. It's currently pursuing opportunities valued at upwards of CA$50 billion ($36.5 billion) that it could secure by 2030.
