The company operates through Packaging & Specialty Plastics, Industrial Intermediates & Infrastructure, and Performance Materials & Coatings segments. The Packaging & Specialty Plastics segment provides ethylene, and propylene and aromatics products; and polyethylene, polyolefin elastomers, ethylene vinyl acetate, and ethylene propylene diene monomer rubbers for mobility and transportation, consumer, wire and cable, and construction end-markets. The Industrial Intermediates & Infrastructure segment offers purified ethylene, ethylene and ethanol amines, propylene glycol and polyether polyols, aromatic isocyanates and coatings, adhesives, sealants, elastomers, and composites. This segment also provides caustic soda, and ethylene dichloride and vinyl chloride monomers; and cellulose ethers, redispersible latex powders, and acrylic emulsions. The Performance Materials and Coatings segment provides architectural paints and coatings, and industrial coatings that are used in maintenance and protective industries, wood, metal packaging, traffic markings, thermal paper, and leather; and silicon metal, siloxanes, and intermediates used as key materials in manufacturing differentiated downstream silicone products. It also engages in property and casualty insurance, as well as reinsurance business. Dow Inc. was incorporated in 2018 and is headquartered in Midland, Michigan.

DOW Gains on High-Return Projects & Self-Help Actions
Dow benefits from its differentiated portfolio and advantaged feedstock positions in the Americas. It remains focused on investing in attractive areas. Its broad portfolio, significant low-cost feedstock positions, global footprint and market reach place it in an advantageous position against competitors. While Dow faces headwinds from heightened macroeconomic and geopolitical uncertainties, it remains focused on growth actions in attractive end markets and executing high-return incremental growth projects in cost-advantaged regions.
Recent alkoxylation investments are contributing to growth in the Industrial Solutions business. The company is also expanding specialty silicones capabilities for mobility, electronics and healthcare, while increasing its emphasis on higher-value downstream applications. Dow has completed the shutdown of its higher-cost Barry, U.K., upstream siloxanes unit, shifting its silicones mix by more than 25% toward more stable and higher-margin businesses while maintaining value-chain integration.
The Barry action is expected to provide about $60 million of EBITDA uplift in the second half of 2026. Dow also restarted its lowest-cost and most flexible European cracker in Terneuzen and remains on track to shut the Bohlen cracker by year-end 2027, actions aimed at improving its cost-curve position and regional flexibility. The Alberta project continues to progress on its revised timeline, with roughly 60% of capital expenditures already spent, most critical labor contracts awarded and incentives intact.
Dow continues to emphasize cost and operational discipline through restructuring, productivity and process simplification. The company materially completed its $1 billion 2025 cost program and delivered more than $300 million of in-period self-help benefits in the second quarter of 2026. It now expects more than $1.3 billion of total self-help benefits in 2026. DOW has launched the “Transform to Outperform” initiative to improve productivity, reduce complexity, streamline its end-to-end processes and enable improved returns. The initiative is expected to contribute about $700 million in 2026.

DOW's Shares Rally 30% YTD: What's Driving the Momentum?

The nuclear energy boom is no longer just about promises. As the third quarter draws to a close and we look ahead to the fourth quarter of 2026, retired nuclear plants are moving toward restarts, small modular reactors are entering construction, and billions of dollars are flowing into the domestic nuclear fuel supply chain.
But here's something you must understand: The U.S. still gets nearly all its nuclear electricity from the existing reactor fleet. So while advanced nuclear companies receive most of the attention, the fastest way to increase nuclear generation is to keep existing reactors running, increase their output, and restart plants that were previously shut down.

Old nuclear is becoming valuable again
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) wants to add 2.5 gigawatts of nuclear capacity by 2027 and 5 gigawatts by 2029 through reactor uprates, restarts, efficiency improvements, and extending the lives of existing plants. And we're already seeing that strategy play out.
Nuclear energy company Holtec is working to restart the 800-megawatt Palisades nuclear plant in Michigan with support from a $1.52 billion DOE loan. If successful, Palisades would become the first retired U.S. commercial nuclear plant to return to service after being decommissioned.
Constellation Energy (NASDAQ: CEG) is also working toward restarting Pennsylvania's 835-megawatt Crane Clean Energy Center (formerly part of Three Mile Island), backed by a $1 billion federal loan.
Small modular reactors are finally being built
While retired plants get a new lease on life, the more unique long-term opportunity remains advanced nuclear power, particularly because development is underway.
Ontario Power Generation began construction of the first of four GE Vernova (NYSE: GEV) Hitachi small modular reactors at Canada's Darlington nuclear site in 2025. Construction of the first unit is underway, while BWX Technologies (NYSE: BWXT) is manufacturing its reactor pressure vessel.
If everything stays on schedule, construction of the first 300-megawatt reactor is expected to be completed by the end of 2029, with commercial operation targeted by the end of 2030, potentially making it the first commercial SMR operating in the Western world.
Indeed, the economics are worth watching. The first unit is expected to cost about $5.5 billion, while all four are projected to cost $15 billion as efficiencies from repeated construction bring costs down. That's exactly what SMR developers have been promising for years: Build the same reactor repeatedly, and costs should fall.
Advanced reactors are moving beyond PowerPoint
There's progress elsewhere, too. Oklo (NYSE: OKLO) announced in August that its Groves Test Reactor in Texas achieved a major operational milestone less than a year after groundbreaking, successfully demonstrating a sustained nuclear chain reaction for the first time.
TerraPower received a Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) construction permit for its Natrium reactor in Wyoming in March and broke ground the following month. Meanwhile, NuScale Power (NYSE: SMR) has an NRC-approved uprated SMR design, while newly public X-energy (NASDAQ: XE) is advancing its Xe-100 reactor with customers including Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) and Dow (NYSE: DOW).
X-energy says its potential project pipeline includes 144 reactors representing about 11.5 gigawatts, assuming customers exercise their contingent rights in full. That's meaningful progress. But potential projects aren't operating reactors, and you shouldn't treat them as guaranteed revenue.
AI is accelerating nuclear development
Artificial intelligence (AI) has become one of the biggest catalysts for nuclear power's resurgence. Data centers need enormous quantities of reliable electricity, and nuclear plants can provide power around the clock. But AI is also beginning to influence how reactors are developed.
X-energy recently joined Idaho National Laboratory, Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA), and Amazon Web Services in Project Prometheus, a three-year initiative using AI to accelerate reactor engineering, licensing, manufacturing, and deployment. If these tools can shorten development timelines, AI could help nuclear companies on both sides of the equation by creating electricity demand while lowering the time and cost required to build reactors.
Fuel may be the overlooked opportunity
Building reactors doesn't matter if there's no fuel available to run them. That's why the DOE awarded $2.7 billion in orders to expand domestic uranium enrichment capabilities, including production of low-enriched uranium and high-assay low-enriched uranium, or HALEU. That creates opportunities beyond reactor developers, including uranium miners, enrichment companies, fuel manufacturers, and nuclear-component suppliers.
Make no mistake: The nuclear boom is real. But commercialization is what matters.
Companies such as Constellation already generate electricity and cash flow. Suppliers such as BWX Technologies can benefit as construction expands. Companies like Oklo, NuScale, and X-energy potentially offer much greater upside, but they also carry much greater risk. Licensing delays, construction cost overruns, fuel shortages, financing requirements, and dilution also remain very real concerns.
Still, the nuclear renaissance has finally moved beyond PowerPoint presentations. Now we just have to figure out which companies can turn that momentum into profits. And we'll definitely get more clarity on that in the next few quarters.

The Nuclear Energy Boom: Where the Industry Really Stands Heading Into Q4 2026

X-Energy (NASDAQ: XE) has only been public since April, but it's already strategically placed at the intersection of two of the biggest investment themes in the market: artificial intelligence and nuclear power. In July, the company became a founding member of Project Prometheus, an initiative led by Idaho National Laboratory, Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA), and Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN). The program received $60 million through the Department of Energy, while X-Energy is contributing $10 million of its own capital along with proprietary reactor and nuclear fuel data.
The goal is to integrate advanced AI models into everything from reactor design and regulatory documentation to manufacturing, construction, fuel fabrication, and eventually semi-autonomous operations. For a nuclear company, that's potentially a big deal.

Nuclear's biggest problem isn't demand
X-Energy's primary reactor is the Xe-100, an 80-megawatt small modular reactor. And the company already has serious customers.
Dow Inc. (NYSE: DOW) is working with X-Energy on a four-reactor project at its Seadrift manufacturing site in Texas. Amazon is backing another project with Energy Northwest and has an agreement with X-Energy that could ultimately support more than 5 gigawatts by 2039. And British energy giant Centrica is working with X-Energy on potential projects in the U.K.
Altogether, X-Energy says its project pipeline consists of 144 reactors representing approximately 11.5 gigawatts of potential capacity. The primary obstacle now, of course, is getting those reactors built. Nuclear projects have historically suffered from long development timelines, expensive engineering work, and construction delays. But that's where AI could actually matter.
X-Energy is already using its AI platform across engineering, licensing, and operations. Project Prometheus could expand those capabilities by using AI to speed up design iterations, produce regulatory documentation, and optimize fuel fabrication. Essentially, if AI can shave meaningful time and expense from those processes, it could improve the economics of X-Energy's pipeline.
But X-Energy isn't just developing reactors. It's also building the fuel infrastructure needed to run them.
The company's TRISO-X subsidiary is constructing the TX-1 fuel fabrication facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, which is expected to become the first commercial U.S. facility dedicated to producing TRISO fuel for advanced reactors. Once operational, TX-1 is expected to produce enough fuel to supply as many as 11 Xe-100 reactors.
The financial picture is unusual
X-Energy isn't profitable, and you shouldn't confuse its current revenue with revenue from selling commercial reactors. Q2 revenue and grant income reached $54.6 million, up 154% year over year. But much of that growth came from engineering work and government-supported development activities related to advancing the Xe-100.
Fortunately, X-Energy has plenty of capital. By the end of June, the company reported $1.9 billion in total liquidity and no debt.
Is X-Energy stock a buy?
X-Energy has several things working in its favor, and the AI angle makes the stock particularly unique because X-Energy could benefit from AI in two ways. AI data centers are driving demand, while AI could also help X-Energy develop and deploy the reactors needed to meet it.
But there's still a huge gap between having an 11.5-gigawatt pipeline and operating 11.5 gigawatts of commercial reactors. Licensing, construction, financing, supply chain execution, and customer commitments all have to fall into place. That's why I'd view X-Energy as a high-risk nuclear growth stock rather than a conventional energy investment.

This Newly Public Nuclear IPO Is Already Using AI to Speed Up Reactor Design. Is It a Buy?

One company has a slight edge.
Sometimes it's good to be the hot new stock in an industry ripe for disruption. And that's exactly what Oklo (NYSE: OKLO) was when it went public in May 2024 through a SPAC (special purpose acquisition company) merger. The small modular reactor (SMR) company had a compelling plan focused on artificial intelligence (AI), support from AI guru Sam Altman, and an incoming nuclear-friendly presidential administration.
But one problem with being the hot new stock is that you eventually become the not-so-new stock, leaving room for another company to assume that role.

That's exactly what happened in April when X-Energy (NASDAQ: XE) went public. This new SMR company has a compelling AI-focused plan, support from AI hyperscaler Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN), and a nuclear-friendly presidential administration. Wait a minute... this sounds familiar!
So, which of these next-generation nuclear stocks looks like a better buy?
How they're different
SMR company NuScale Energy (NYSE: SMR) is developing an SMR that's essentially a smaller version of the standard water-cooled system found in almost all existing U.S. nuclear power plants. But Oklo and X-Energy's SMR designs differ from NuScale's in fundamental ways.
Oklo's Aurora Powerhouse design is based on a small-scale fast reactor cooled by liquid sodium instead of water. Because liquid sodium has a very high boiling point, the system can operate at higher temperatures and lower pressures than a water-cooled reactor, which in theory makes it more efficient. The "fast" part of the "fast reactor" maintains fission without slowing down neutrons, allowing the reactor to be fueled with spent fuel from existing reactors.
X-Energy's XE-100 SMR is a high-temperature reactor cooled by pressurized helium gas, which is then pumped into a separate water loop to heat the water into steam and power steam turbines. As an inert element, helium provides extra insurance that no radiation is transferred into the water system. If the XE-100's core temperatures rise, its design uses the inherent physics of matter expansion and neutron interaction to slow the reaction rate without human intervention, providing an additional safety measure against a meltdown.
How they're similar
Perhaps the biggest similarity between Oklo's and X-Energy's designs is that neither has been built yet. While each company has received some preliminary support from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) under the Trump administration, neither reactor design has been approved for commercial deployment by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).
Oklo is currently building its first Aurora Powerhouse on the grounds of the DOE's Idaho National Laboratory. It expects to bring that reactor to criticality around Q1 2027. Meanwhile, X-Energy has partnered with the DOE and Dow Chemical (NYSE: DOW) to build the first four XE-100 reactors at a Dow facility in Texas and use them for both power generation and industrial steam production. However, the regulatory review of its application is ongoing, so construction isn't likely to begin until at least Q1 2027.
Both companies also have nuclear fuel businesses that they expect to contribute to their bottom lines. X-Energy will manufacture a type of ceramic-coated pelleted uranium fuel called TRISO, which is safer to use than standard uranium fuel, while Oklo has several fuel operations in the works, including working with surplus plutonium from government sources, recycling nuclear fuel, and creating nuclear isotopes for industrial and healthcare use.
The better buy
Because both companies are pre-commercial, their current financials tell us little about how their respective businesses will perform once they receive commercial approval from the NRC. And that's even assuming they do ultimately receive such approval, which isn't guaranteed. A critical design flaw could manifest in one or both designs, scuttling that company's ambitions and sinking its stock. Nobody, not even risk-tolerant investors, should invest money in either company that they can't afford to lose.
Even if both companies' plans proceed smoothly, investors buying in now are signing up for a long wait. That said, because Oklo appears to be a bit further along in its process, it looks like the better buy of these two highly speculative companies.

The youngest company on the list is also the best performer (if you can even call a 44.3% drop from its IPO price the "best").
Standard Nuclear (NYSE: STDN) made its Nasdaq debut less than a month ago, and its share price quickly plunged. Even so, the start-up is still valued at $1.4 billion, which seems high for a company that only brought in $593,802 in revenue in Q1.
The company currently operates the only U.S. manufacturing facility capable of producing TRISO nuclear fuel at an industrial scale. TRISO fuel consists of encapsulate poppy seed-sized uranium kernels, which are heat-resistant and meltdown-proof. Standard Nuclear plans to supply small modular reactor (SMR) companies with TRISO fuel, but in order for it to grow into its valuation, it needs the SMR industry to take off.
X-Energy, down 48.4%
TRISO fuel is also key to the fortunes of the second-youngest company on our list, X-Energy (NASDAQ: XE), which had its IPO in April. The $7.5 billion company is currently developing a nuclear fuel campus in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, to manufacture its patented version of TRISO fuel, called TRISO-X.
X-Energy has also designed a high-temperature gas-cooled SMR called the Xe-100, which it believes is simpler, safer, and more efficient than other types of SMRs. X-Energy is partnering with chemical company Dow (NYSE: DOW) to build a four-reactor nuclear plant at a Dow facility in Texas. However, the regulatory review of its application is ongoing, so it likely can't even begin construction until Q1 2027.
Nano Nuclear, down 67.9%
Another company developing a high-temperature gas-cooled reactor is Nano Nuclear Energy (NASDAQ: NNE), but its Kronos reactor is actually a modular microreactor (MMR), which is smaller than an SMR. It plans to submit a construction permit in the coming months to build an MMR on the campus of the University of Illinois, which it hopes to begin by mid- to late 2027.
Now that it's dropped 67.9% from its all-time high, Nano Nuclear is the smallest of these companies by market cap, at just $946.9 million.
Oklo, down 75.1%, and NuScale, down 82.2%
Oklo (NYSE: OKLO) and NuScale Power (NYSE: SMR) -- valued at $7.5 billion and $3.1 billion, respectively -- are actively building their first SMRs. NuScale has received design approval for its light-water SMR from U.S. regulators, with 12 modules already in production and plans to deploy six of them through a partnership with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). Meanwhile, Oklo is building its prototype Aurora Powerhouse with a sodium-cooled fast SMR at the Idaho National Laboratory under Department of Energy authorization.
What you've probably noticed is that none of these SMRs or MMRs have actually been deployed. Most of them aren't even under construction yet! That's one big reason why the industry's share prices have plunged: while the science may be sound and the designs promising, there's no way to tell if a next-gen reactor will work as planned until someone actually builds it and turns it on for the first time. And that will take months or, in some cases, years.
Given the uncertainty around any new technology and the inherent risk of investing in a pre-commercial or early-stage company, all of these companies' valuations still look too high, and only extremely risk-tolerant investors should even consider buying in. That said, the valuations are looking a lot more reasonable now than they did a few months ago. But until the SMR and MMR deployments actually begin -- likely at least a year from now -- these stocks will have limited upside. They may also have to issue additional shares to keep afloat in the interim, diluting the positions of existing investors.
Nuclear investors should probably hold off on buying any of these until we're much closer to actual deployments.

Nuclear Wipeout: These 5 Nuclear Stocks Are Now Down 44.3% to 82.2%. Time to Buy?

Dow Inc. DOW used its second-quarterearnings callto emphasize cost actions, portfolio changes and disciplined execution as management focuses on improving earnings durability. The company highlighted stronger pricing, margin recovery and cash generation while acknowledging continued market volatility.
Management also provided a cautious third-quarter outlook, pointing to polyethylene margin pressure and seasonal factors while expecting additional benefits from restructuring and productivity initiatives.
DOW Advances Cost and Portfolio Actions
CEO Karen Carter said that Dow is focused on three priorities: targeted growth, improving portfolio competitiveness and maintaining balanced capital allocation. Carter emphasized using the company’s global assets and customer relationships to strengthen long-term competitiveness.
DOW reported second-quarter operating EPS of $1.44, beating the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $1.25. Revenues of $12.09 billion slightly surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $12.04 billion.
Dow Inc. Price, Consensus and EPS Surprise
The company said self-help efforts generated more than $300 million of benefits during the quarter. Management increased expected in-year benefits from these actions to more than $1.3 billion.
Dow Sees Strength in Key Markets
Dow’s second-quarter sales increased 20% year over year, supported by higher prices across regions. Operating EBITDA was $2.3 billion, while operating EBIT improved significantly from the prior-year period.
The company’s Packaging & Specialty Plastics segment was a major contributor, with sales rising 27% year over year to $6.4 billion. Dow attributed this improvement to higher polyethylene prices and stronger integrated margins.
Dow noted that data center demand remains a growth area, particularly for thermal management solutions and Industrial Solutions products. Carter highlighted opportunities in electronics, mobility and specialty applications.
DOW Details Third-Quarter Outlook
CFO Jeffrey Tate said that Dow expects third-quarter EBITDA of approximately $1.7 billion. The outlook indicates anticipated polyethylene margin compression following June price changes and typical seasonal patterns after strong second-quarter demand.
Management expects about $130 million of sequential benefits from self-help actions during the third quarter. These gains are expected to offset planned maintenance and the absence of certain second-quarter benefits.
Dow also highlighted risks from geopolitical tensions, logistics constraints and uneven regional demand. The company said market conditions remain volatile, particularly due to ongoing disruptions affecting energy and feedstock markets.
Dow Builds Specialty Growth Platforms
Dow said it is reshaping the silicones business by reducing higher-cost upstream capacity and expanding downstream opportunities. The company expects the Barry, U.K. siloxanes shutdown to provide a $60 million EBITDA uplift in the second half of 2026.
Management said specialty silicones investments are focused on faster-growing markets, including electric vehicles, consumer electronics, healthcare and data centers. Carter noted that these downstream markets are expected to deliver stronger returns.
The company also discussed its Dow Coolant Care Network, which supports data center thermal management needs. Management views the offering as a way to expand both revenue opportunities and service capabilities.
DOW Addresses Analyst Concerns
A Morgan Stanley analyst asked about the Alberta project and whether Dow could bring in a partner. Carter said that the company remains focused on completing the project while staying disciplined on returns.
A JPMorgan analyst questioned the timing of cost savings and capital allocation priorities. Tate said that debt reduction remains the first priority, with share repurchases not expected during 2026.
Analysts also questioned polyethylene assumptions. Carter said that improving oil prices, declining inventories and stronger order activity could provide upside if current market conditions continue.
Dow Focuses on Financial Flexibility
Dow confirmed that it is prioritizing balance sheet strength, maintaining approximately $14 billion in liquidity and directing excess cash toward deleveraging. Management noted that there are no substantive debt maturities until 2029.
The company expects working capital actions to release more than $500 million in the second half of 2026. Management also confirmed progress from restructuring efforts, including implemented role reductions and site transformation initiatives.
Carter said that Dow’s approach remains centered on improving productivity, strengthening its asset base and focusing investment on attractive markets. The company continues to position its actions around longer-term competitiveness.

Dow Q2 Earnings Call Focuses on Cost Actions and Portfolio Shift

Dow Inc. DOW reported second-quarter 2026 adjusted earnings per share of $1.44 per share, reversing the year-ago loss of 42 cents per share. The figure beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $1.25 by 15%. The year-over-year improvement was mainly driven by higher prices and benefits from Dow’s self-help initiatives.
Including one-time items, such as costs associated with the Transform to Outperform program, partially offset by an income tax adjustment,the company reported earnings per share of 99 cents in the quarter compared to the year-ago quarter’s loss of $1.18.
Net sales rose 19.7% year over year to around $12.1 billion and beat the consensus estimate of $11.6 billion by 3.8%. Local prices increased 20%, while volume declined 1% as planned maintenance weighed on Packaging & Specialty Plastics.
GAAP net income was $802 million in the reported quarter compared with a net loss of $801 million a year ago. Operating EBITDA increased to $2.3 billion from $703 million.

DOW’s Segment Highlights
Packaging & Specialty Plastics sales rose 27% year over year to $6,385 million. The figure fell behind our estimate of $6.7 billion. Volume fell 4% due to declines in both businesses, including higher planned maintenance in Hydrocarbons & Energy, which reduced merchant sales. Lower polyethylene volumes in EMEAI and Asia Pacific also reflected the Middle East conflict. Higher polyethylene and olefins prices more than offset the volume pressure.
Industrial Intermediates & Infrastructure sales increased 14% year over year to $3.2 billion. The figure surpassed our estimate of $3.04 billion. Volume declined 2% as lower demand in Polyurethanes & Construction Chemicals, including the effects of the Middle East conflict, outweighed growth in Industrial Solutions. Industrial Solutions volumes benefited from recent alkoxylation investments and increased demand for data center applications.
Performance Materials & Coatings sales advanced 11% year over year to $2.4 billion. The figure beat our estimate of $2.2 billion. Volume grew 6%, supported by gains across both businesses and strength in downstream silicones. Consumer Solutions benefited from higher demand across consumer, electronics and home care applications, while Coatings & Performance Monomers recorded increased acrylic monomers and architectural coatings volumes.
DOW’s Financials
Cash flow from operating activities for continuing operations was $1.3 billion, reversing the year-ago use of $470 million. The improvement was primarily driven by higher earnings across all businesses, which more than offset an expected working capital build associated with revenue growth.
Cash and cash equivalents were $3.97 billion as of June 30, 2026, up from $3.8 billion at the end of 2025. Shareholder returns through dividends totaled $253 million during the quarter.
DOW's Outlook
Dow expects approximately $200 million in additional benefits from Transform to Outperform during 2026. This raises the company’s expected total in-year benefits from self-help initiatives to more than $1.3 billion.
For the second half of 2026, management plans to focus on growth and innovation in attractive end markets, investments to strengthen the portfolio and balanced capital allocation. Dow expects the growth and productivity benefits from Transform to Outperform to accelerate through the remainder of 2026 and into 2027.
