Dow Inc., through its subsidiaries, engages in the provision of various materials science solutions for packaging, infrastructure, mobility, and consumer applications in the United States, Canada, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, India, the Asia Pacific, and Latin America. The company operates through Packaging & Specialty Plastics, Industrial Intermediates & Infrastructure, and Performance Materials & Coatings segments. The Packaging & Specialty Plastics segment provides ethylene, and propylene and aromatics products; and polyethylene, polyolefin elastomers, ethylene vinyl acetate, and ethylene propylene diene monomer rubbers for mobility and transportation, consumer, wire and cable, and construction end-markets. The Industrial Intermediates & Infrastructure segment offers purified ethylene, ethylene and ethanol amines, propylene glycol and polyether polyols, aromatic isocyanates and coatings, adhesives, sealants, elastomers, and composites. This segment also provides caustic soda, and ethylene dichloride and vinyl chloride monomers; and cellulose ethers, redispersible latex powders, and acrylic emulsions. The Performance Materials and Coatings segment provides architectural paints and coatings, and industrial coatings that are used in maintenance and protective industries, wood, metal packaging, traffic markings, thermal paper, and leather; and silicon metal, siloxanes, and intermediates used as key materials in manufacturing differentiated downstream silicone products. It also engages in property and casualty insurance, as well as reinsurance business. Dow Inc. was incorporated in 2018 and is headquartered in Midland, Michigan.

Total Q2 earnings for the S&P 500 index are currently expected to be up +21.8% from the same period last year on +10.9% higher revenues, with 11 of the 16 Zacks sectors expected to enjoy positive earnings growth.
Q2 earnings estimates have been steadily going up since the quarter got underway, with the current +21.8% growth rate up from +18% at the start of April. Estimates have increased for 5 of the 16 Zacks sectors, including the Tech, Energy, Basic Materials, Utilities, and Business Services sectors.
Q2 earnings are expected to be above the year-earlier level for 11 of the 16 Zacks sectors, with strong growth expected at the Energy (+114.0% earnings growth), Basic Materials (+47.1%), Tech (+43.6%), Utilities (+14.6%), Aerospace (+10.8%), and Industrial Products (+10.2%) sectors.
The Tech sector has been a critical growth pillar since 2023 Q3 and is expected to continue playing that role in 2026 Q2, with earnings growth of +43.6%. Excluding the Tech sector's substantial contribution, Q2 earnings growth for the rest of the S&P 500 index would be +11.4% (vs. +21.8% otherwise).
The Revisions Trend Remains Positive
The overall earnings picture continues to be of all-around strength and a steadily improving outlook. This favorable earnings backdrop is evident in the revisions trend, as seen in how expectations for 2026 Q2 have evolved in recent weeks.
We should note that Q2 estimates have resumed their upward trajectory in recent days, after modestly declining in the days prior to that, even though the overall revisions trend remains positive.
The sectors enjoying positive estimate revisions since the start of April include Energy, Tech, Basic Materials, Utilities, and Business Services. Aggregate Q2 earnings estimates would still be positive since the start of the period, even without favorable revisions for the Energy sector, but aggregate estimates would be down if we exclude the increases in the Energy and Tech sector estimates.
The Tech sector has been enjoying positive estimate revisions for more than a year now, so the sector's ongoing positive revisions trend is basically more of the same. We have discussed in this space the positive revisions that the Mag 7 group has been experiencing. The Energy sector's improved earnings outlook is a direct result of the Iran war, as is the upgraded earnings outlook for parts of the Basic Materials sector, particularly the Chemicals industry.
Take, for example, the evolution of Q2 EPS estimates for Dow DOW, LyondellBasell Industries LYB, Methanex MEOH, and others. For Dow and LyondellBasell, the Zacks Consensus EPS estimates for Q2 have more than doubled over the past month, while the same for Methanex has increased by more than 30%.
On the negative side, Q2 estimates have come under renewed pressure since the start of the period for the Transportation, Autos, Medical, and Consumer Discretionary sectors.
Full-year 2026 earnings estimates have increased for 11 of the 16 Zacks sectors since the start of March, with the most pronounced gains at the Energy, Basic Materials, Tech, Industrials, Utilities, and Business Services sectors. On the negative side, estimates have been under pressure for the Transportation, Autos, Medical, and Consumer Discretionary sectors since the start of March.

Zacks Earnings Trends Highlights: Dow, LyondellBasell and Methanex

Methanex Corporation MEOH shares have soared 47.7% year to date. The company has also outperformed the Zacks Chemical - Diversified industry’s 22.8% growth over the same time frame.
The rally is driven by an improvement in methanol market fundamentals and growing expectations for stronger profitability. The company is expected to benefit from higher methanol prices as significant supply disruptions in the Middle East have tightened global methanol markets and pushed prices sharply higher.

Let’s take a look at the factors that are driving MEOH stock.
What’s Aiding MEOH Stock?
Methanex is expected to enhance its asset portfolio and future cash generation, deliver long-term value to shareholders and reduce the carbon dioxide intensity of its asset portfolio. Methanex produced 2,391,000 tons of methanol in the first quarter, up from 1,619,000 tons a year ago. With full-year production of the G3 plant, an incremental supply is expected. In the first quarter, production from Geismar increased more than 50% year over year, supporting higher sales for the quarter.
Methanex's Chile operations improved in the first quarter as gas supply normalized following a pipeline outage in late 2025, supporting production of 398,000 tons. While gas availability from Chile and Argentina remains supportive, the company expects to idle one Chile plant during part of the second quarter due to seasonal winter gas constraints.
The OCI acquisition, completed in June 2025, expanded Methanex’s presence in Texas with two world-scale methanol facilities benefiting from low-cost natural gas feedstock. The acquired assets performed strongly in the first quarter, producing 195,000 tons at Beaumont and 203,000 tons from the company’s share of Natgasoline.
Middle East supply disruptions, which have significantly reduced exports from a region that normally supplies around 20 million tons of methanol annually, have tightened global markets and driven methanol prices sharply higher.
MEOH's average realized price was $351 per ton in the first quarter of 2026. Management expects the average realized price of $500-$525 per ton in April and May, supporting expectations for significantly stronger second-quarter earnings and adjusted EBITDA. The company is well-positioned to benefit from higher prices, supported by its diversified global production network and owned shipping fleet.
Methanex ended the first quarter with nearly $380 million in cash and repaid $60 million of debt. The company expects to retire the remaining $290 million term loan in the second quarter, further strengthening its balance sheet while maintaining flexibility for potential share repurchases.

Dow is taking action to cut costs by $1 billion to drive margins. It expects to achieve the majority of the cost savings through reductions in direct and labor costs. Dow realized more than $400 million of benefits from these actions in 2025, with the remaining benefits expected by 2026.
DOW has launched the “Transform to Outperform” initiative to improve productivity, reduce complexity, streamline its end-to-end processes and enable improved returns.
