Deere & Company engages in the manufacture and distribution of various equipment worldwide. The company operates through four segments: Production and Precision Agriculture, Small Agriculture and Turf, Construction and Forestry, and Financial Services. The Production and Precision Agriculture segment provides large and medium tractors, combines, cotton pickers and strippers, sugarcane harvesters and loaders, harvesting front-end equipment, pull-behind scrapers, and tillage and seeding equipment, as well as application equipment, including sprayers and nutrient management, and soil preparation machinery for grain growers. The Small Agriculture and Turf segment offers utility tractors, and related loaders and attachments; turf and utility equipment, including riding lawn equipment, commercial mowing equipment, golf course equipment, and utility vehicles, as well as implements for mowing, tilling, snow and debris handling, aerating, residential, commercial, golf, and sports turf care applications; other outdoor power products; and hay and forage equipment. This segment also resells products from other manufacturers. It serves dairy and livestock producers, crop producers, and turf and utility customers. The Construction and Forestry segment provides a range of backhoe loaders, crawler dozers and loaders, four-wheel-drive loaders, excavators, motor graders, articulated dump trucks, landscape and skid-steer loaders, milling machines, pavers, compactors, rollers, crushers, screens, asphalt plants, log skidders, log feller bunchers, log loaders and forwarders, log harvesters, and attachments; and roadbuilding equipment. The Financial Services segment finances sales and leases agriculture and turf, and construction and forestry equipment. It also offers wholesale financing to dealers of the foregoing equipment; and extended equipment warranties, as well as finances retail revolving charge accounts. The company was founded in 1837 and is headquartered in Moline, Illinois.

Deere appears to be a high-quality business, but the current valuation is already noticeably ahead of the underlying fundamentals. Its strong point is high liquidity: a quick ratio of 1.95 and a current ratio of 2.18 are comfortable for an industrial company, and cash on hand remains substantial. At the same time, leverage is still high: a debt/equity ratio of 1.59 and long-term debt of $41.8 billion create a constraint on re-rating, especially amid declining profitability. Profit margins remain above the industry, but the trend is deteriorating: net profit margin has fallen to 10.09%, operating margin to 13.25%, and gross margin to 36.58%, meaning the business remains profitable but is losing some operating leverage. ROE of 18.93% looks strong and above the median, however ROA of 4.51% and ROI of 6.91% are already below industry benchmarks, indicating less efficient use of assets and capital. Particularly concerning is the drop in return on tangible equity to 22.78% from higher levels a year earlier. On an absolute basis, profit and revenue remain large, but the trend does not look sustainably upward: net income and operating income have declined noticeably from the peak levels of recent periods, and EBITDA is also below prior levels. The balance sheet does not look weak, though: equity is growing, total assets are stable, and liabilities are not showing a sharp deterioration, but the debt profile still warrants a discount. On the valuation side, the picture is demanding: P/E of 35.96, P/S of 3.63, and P/B of 6.56 are significantly above industry medians, which means high expectations are already priced in. P/FCF is roughly in line with the median — the only multiple that does not look overheated — but it does not offset the expensiveness on earnings, revenue, and the balance sheet. Dividend yield of 0.26% is too low to provide meaningful support for an income-oriented investor. Overall, the fundamentals support a moderately cautious view: the company is strong, but not cheap, and slowing profitability plus a high valuation limit upside re-rating potential. For an investor, this means fair value should be somewhat more conservative than the current operational benchmark, and the margin of safety on growth looks limited.

Deere & Company DE has reached a settlement with the Federal Trade Commission (“FTC”) and five states regarding the ‘right to repair’ lawsuit. Resolving the early-2025 dispute, which accused Deere of restricting farmers from fixing its agricultural equipment, clears the way for Deere to proceed with its ongoing innovation toward more flexible repair options.
According to the settlement, Deere will provide farmers and independent repair providers with the same equipment repair resources, including full access to applicable software capabilities for the next 10 years under the supervision of the FTC. The settlement formalizes the company's ongoing initiative to expand access to diagnostic and repair tools, giving farmers and independent providers the freedom to fix their equipment while giving the FTC the ability to verify compliance.
Deere expects to continue investing in tools, technology and services to give customers better options to care for their equipment. Deere continues to focus on providing reliable equipment, robust dealer support and effective solutions to keep farmers productive.
DE’s Price Performance, Valuations & Estimates

Will Deere Benefit From Settling Its FTC Right-to-Repair Dispute?

Caterpillar Inc.’s CAT Construction Industries segment generated around $25.1 billion in 2025 sales, accounting for roughly 37% of its total revenues. Its momentum accelerated in the first quarter of 2026, when revenues climbed 38% year over year to $7.16 billion, driven by higher sales volumes and favorable pricing. The segment contributed roughly 41% to the company's total revenues during the quarter.
The company views the segment as its backbone, reflecting more than a century of expertise in construction equipment. While machinery sales continue to drive growth, Caterpillar is increasingly expanding the segment's value proposition through rental offerings, digital capabilities and advanced technology solutions. This strategy aims to generate stronger customer engagement and create recurring revenue opportunities beyond the initial equipment sale.
The segment supports customers using machinery in infrastructure and building construction activities. The segment’s revenues have witnessed a CAGR of 8.2% over 2020-2025 and it serves more than 700,000 customers across more than 190 countries.
Looking ahead, Caterpillar has set a goal of increasing Construction Industries' sales to end users by 1.25 times by 2030 compared with 2024 levels. The company expects more than a 25% increase in global construction spend over 2024-2034.
Caterpillar continues to see attractive opportunities in both mature markets such as North America, Europe, Japan, Australia and New Zealand, as well as faster-growing regions across Asia (excluding Japan), Latin America, the Middle East, Africa and Eurasia. This balanced geographic footprint allows the company to capitalize on replacement demand in developed markets while benefiting from rising infrastructure investment and urbanization in emerging economies.
Caterpillar’s competitive advantages extend well beyond its product portfolio. Its extensive dealer network, connected equipment base and expanding digital ecosystem enable customers to improve machine utilization, lower operating costs and enhance productivity. The company is investing in autonomous equipment, AI-enabled jobsite solutions, machine automation and operator assistance technologies that improve efficiency and safety. These capabilities should become increasingly valuable as contractors face skilled labor shortages, rising project complexity and pressure to improve productivity.
Overall, the Construction Industries segment appears well-positioned for sustained growth, supported by global infrastructure spending, increasing equipment replacement demand, expanding digital services, autonomous technologies and a growing installed machine base. Although construction equipment demand remains cyclical and can be affected by interest rates and economic slowdowns, Caterpillar's diversified end markets, extensive dealer network, recurring services revenues and technology investments should help the segment deliver resilient performance over the long term.
Its peer, Komatsu Ltd. KMTUY, is pursuing a similar strategy centered on automation, smart construction and electrification. Komatsu continues to expand its Smart Construction platform, autonomous equipment portfolio and digital services while benefiting from global infrastructure spending and mining investments. Like Caterpillar, the company expects software-enabled solutions and connected equipment to become increasingly important revenue contributors beyond traditional machinery sales.
Another close competitor is Deere & Company DE, whose Construction & Forestry segment is emphasizing precision construction technologies, machine guidance systems and autonomous capabilities. Deere is investing heavily in digital workflows that improve jobsite efficiency, while also expanding aftermarket and technology-driven recurring revenues. Similar to Caterpillar, Deere views intelligent equipment, connected fleet and software integration as key long-term growth opportunities.

Can CAT's Construction Industries Segment Deliver Sustained Growth?

Lindsay Corporation LNN reported third-quarter fiscal 2026 earnings of $1.53 per share, beating the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $1.41 by 8.5%. The bottom line declined 14% year over year.
Revenues totaled $160.8 million, down 5% year over year. The top line missed the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $169 million by 5.15%. Irrigation softness outweighed infrastructure growth. The quarter reflected persistent demand challenges in North America and Brazil.
The company’s backlog as of May 31, 2026, was $136 million compared with $117 million as of May 31, 2025.

Lindsay’s Q3 Gross Margin Contracts Y/Y
The cost of operating revenues fell 2.5% year over year to $113 million. Gross profit was down 10.8% to $48 million from the year-earlier quarter. The gross margin was 29.8% compared with the year-ago quarter’s 31.6%.
Operating expenses were $29 million in the fiscal third quarter, down 1.7% year over year. Operating income was $18.5 million, down from the prior-year quarter’s $27 million.
LNN’s Q3 Segmental Results
The Irrigation segment’s revenues decreased 7% year over year to $133 million. North America irrigation revenues fell 11% from the year-ago quarter to $61 million on lower unit sales volume. International irrigation revenues decreased 4% year over year to $72 million. The segment’s operating income fell 25% year over year to $21 million.
The Infrastructure segment’s revenues increased 8% year over year to $28 million. The upside was driven by higher road safety product revenues. The segment reported operating income of $5.4 million, flat year over year.
Lindsay’s Financial Position
LNN had cash and cash equivalents of roughly $155 million at the end of the third quarter of fiscal 2026 compared with $196 million as of the end of the third quarter of fiscal 2025. The company’s long-term debt was around $115 million as of May 31, 2026, flat with that reported as of May 31, 2025.
The company completed $25.2 million of share repurchases during the quarter. Total repurchases reached $80.7 million for the fiscal year.
LNN's FY26 Outlook
Lindsay expects the irrigation market conditions in the United States to remain soft as growers await greater trade certainty and an improvement in commodity prices. Brazil is expected to return to growth, supported by secular demand for irrigation investments.
However, credit constraints and high interest rates are expected to remain headwinds in Brazil. Lindsay also expects to recognize $70 million in revenues from the MENA irrigation project in fiscal 2026.
In Infrastructure, the company anticipates continued growth in road safety products. It continues to manage a robust pipeline of Road Zipper System projects but does not expect to deliver a large project in fiscal 2026.

CNH Industrial N.V. CNH is expected to report second-quarter 2026 results soon. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for CNH Industrial’s earnings per share is pegged at 11 cents for the second quarter. The company reported earnings of 17 cents in the year-ago quarter. The consensus estimate for CNH Industrial’s total revenues is pinned at $4.77 billion, indicating a year-over-year increase of 1.2%.
