Deere & Company engages in the manufacture and distribution of various equipment worldwide. The company operates through four segments: Production and Precision Agriculture, Small Agriculture and Turf, Construction and Forestry, and Financial Services. The Production and Precision Agriculture segment provides large and medium tractors, combines, cotton pickers and strippers, sugarcane harvesters and loaders, harvesting front-end equipment, pull-behind scrapers, and tillage and seeding equipment, as well as application equipment, including sprayers and nutrient management, and soil preparation machinery for grain growers. The Small Agriculture and Turf segment offers utility tractors, and related loaders and attachments; turf and utility equipment, including riding lawn equipment, commercial mowing equipment, golf course equipment, and utility vehicles, as well as implements for mowing, tilling, snow and debris handling, aerating, residential, commercial, golf, and sports turf care applications; other outdoor power products; and hay and forage equipment. This segment also resells products from other manufacturers. It serves dairy and livestock producers, crop producers, and turf and utility customers. The Construction and Forestry segment provides a range of backhoe loaders, crawler dozers and loaders, four-wheel-drive loaders, excavators, motor graders, articulated dump trucks, landscape and skid-steer loaders, milling machines, pavers, compactors, rollers, crushers, screens, asphalt plants, log skidders, log feller bunchers, log loaders and forwarders, log harvesters, and attachments; and roadbuilding equipment. The Financial Services segment finances sales and leases agriculture and turf, and construction and forestry equipment. It also offers wholesale financing to dealers of the foregoing equipment; and extended equipment warranties, as well as finances retail revolving charge accounts. The company was founded in 1837 and is headquartered in Moline, Illinois.

But unlike many of those names, the electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft company has made investors money -- staging an epic recovery after a multiyear downswing. Joby is up a staggering 219.2% in the last year, at the time of this writing.

Things have heated up this summer for Joby Aviation
Scott Levine (Joby Aviation): While Joby Aviation is still waiting for the final certifications from the FAA to start ferrying passengers back and forth with its electric air taxi service, it doesn't mean the company is sitting idle. Over the past couple of months, Joby has reported some notable news indicating that the company is working hard to hit the ground running when it receives the requisite FAA certification, making it an eVTOL stock that demands to be on the radar of any investor interested in gaining exposure to the nascent industry.
Most recently, Joby notched an aviation industry first when it completed an eVTOL flight between two U.S. public airports: Marina and Monterey, both of which are in California. Management lauded the accomplishment "a major step as part of Joby's commercial market readiness, highlighting key capabilities across safety, operations, air traffic control, and certification progress."
But there are even bigger developments that the upstart eVTOL company reported this summer. For one, Joby announced its plan to acquire the urban air mobility business of Blade Air Mobility. When the transaction closes (presumably in the next few weeks), Joby will gain immediate market access to infrastructure assets, as well as urban corridors in New York City and Southern Europe.
Diversifying beyond the civilian market, Joby announced a partnership with L3Harris to collaborate on developing hybrid eVTOL aircraft suited for defense applications. Should the partnership with L3Harris, a leading defense contractor, bring a defense aircraft to fruition, it will help Joby diversify its revenue base and mitigate the risk associated with the company's air taxi business.
For investors looking to land an eVTOL stock in their portfolios, Joby is a consideration they can't afford to ignore.
An interesting eVTOL stock you probably haven't heard of
Lee Samaha (Vertical Aerospace): As you can see in the chart, the British eVTOL company's market cap is a mere fraction of its U.S. peers' market cap.
Part of it comes down to Vertical Aerospace's short financial runway. According to CEO Stuart Simpson, "Our cash runway takes us into the middle of 2026 with our cash and cash equivalents as of today, approximately $139 million."
Another part of it is possibly the different regulatory path followed by Vertical Aerospace. The company is seeking certification for its aircraft with the U.K.'s Civil Aviation Authority and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency. After this, it will work on certification with the FAA and other regulators worldwide.
However, the good news is that the current capital position will enable the company to "begin the assembly of our next aircraft, our pre-production or certification aircraft, and continue to expand our certification aircraft supply chain." Vertical recently completed the first public-to-airport eVTOL flight by a commercially planned vehicle. It also has 1,500 preorders in place for its aircraft, including from American Airlines and Japan Airlines.
Vertical Aerospace will require capital to complete its aims, and there are no guarantees it will. Still, it offers an interesting option for investors looking to diversify eVTOL holdings, and potentially more upside due to its low valuation.
Shoot for the stars with this high-octane ETF
Daniel Foelber (Ark Space Exploration & Innovation ETF): The Ark Space Exploration & Innovation ETF has been on a tear -- up 36.2% year to date and 78% over the last year. According to Ark Invest's overview of the ETF: "The advisor defines 'Space Exploration' as leading, enabling, or benefiting from technologically enabled products and/or services that occur beyond the surface of the Earth, including autonomous mobility, intelligent devices, advanced battery technologies, 3D printing, reusable rockets, adaptive robotics, and neural networks."
The fund addresses the space theme across industries -- through growth-focused companies as well as legacy industrial companies like L3Harris, Deere, and Komatsu. And like other Ark funds, the ETF is not remotely market-cap-weighted -- meaning that the highest-weighted holdings will be the fund managers' top picks rather than the most valuable companies. The fund's largest holding -- Kratos Defense & Security -- only has a market cap of $11.5 billion compared to $420.3 billion for fifth-place Palantir Technologies.
Vertical take-off and landing plays into the "space theme," with Archer Aviation, Joby Aviation, and Blade Air Mobility combining for 11.2% of the ETF. The ETF has many recognizable names, but also some companies you may have never heard of -- like unmanned aircraft system maker Aerovironment and satellite giant Iridium Communications -- the third- and fourth-largest holdings by weighting. Again, since the fund isn't market-cap weighted, it can put more conviction in these companies and still have small pieces of megacap growth companies. The fund holds Nvidia and Alphabet, but they only make up 2.7% and 1.7% of the fund, respectively.
The Ark Space Exploration & Innovation ETF sports a relatively high expense ratio at 0.75% -- which is far higher than the expense ratios investors may be used to from passive funds. The key difference is that the Ark Space Exploration & Innovation ETF is actively managed and very nuanced. The higher expense ratio is the fee for the active management, but it has certainly been worth it, given the fund's epic gains.
All told, the Ark Space Exploration & Innovation ETF could be a good pick for investors who are interested in "space" outside just eVTOL.

Like Joby Aviation? Then You'll Love This eVTOL Growth Stock and ETF.

The S&P 500 Index ($SPX) (SPY) on Thursday rose +0.09%, the Dow Jones Industrials Index ($DOWI) (DIA) fell -0.02%, and the Nasdaq 100 Index ($IUXX) (QQQ) was unchanged. September E-mini S&P futures (ESU25) fell -0.08%, and September E-mini Nasdaq futures (NQU25) fell -0.24%.
Stocks recovered from modest early losses and closed narrowly mixed. Stocks saw downward pressure from Thursday's strong US PPI report and the +5 bp rise in the 10-year T-note yield. In addition, San Francisco Fed President Mary Daly and St Louis Fed President Alberto Musalem Thursday both threw cold water on the idea of a -50 bp rate cut at the September FOMC meeting. There continued to be uncertainty ahead of Friday's Trump-Putin summit, which will begin at 3:30 pm ET followed by a joint press conference, according to Politico.

Thursday's PPI report was much stronger than market expectations. The PPI report suggested that the markets might have been overly optimistic about Tuesday's CPI report and that companies are passing through tariffs at the wholesale level at a higher pace than earlier thought.
The July US final-demand PPI report of +0.9% m/m and +3.3% y/y was substantially stronger than market expectations of +0.2% m/m and +2.5% y/y. The July US core final-demand PPI report of +0.9% m/m and +3.7% y/y was substantially stronger than market expectations of +0.2% m/m and +3.0% y/y.
The markets dialed back expectations for Fed easing in the wake of the disappointing PPI report. The markets are no longer discounting any chance of a -50 bp rate cut at the September meeting and are now assigning a 93% chance of a -25 bp rate cut. After Treasury Secretary Bessent's dovish suggestions on Wednesday, the markets temporarily assigned an 11% chance of a -50 bp rate cut at the September meeting. Nevertheless, the current 93% chance of a -25 bp rate cut in September is still substantially more dovish than the 40% chance assigned before the news of the weak July payroll report on August 1 and the in-line CPI report this past Tuesday.
US weekly initial unemployment claims fell by -3,000 to 224,000, which was close to expectations for a slight decline to 225,000. US weekly continuing claims fell by -15,000 to 1.953 million, which showed a slightly stronger labor market than expectations of a dip to 1.967 million.
San Francisco Fed President Mary Daly told the WSJ that she does not support a -50 bp rate cut at the September meeting, saying that "would send off an urgency signal that I don't feel about the strength of the labor market." She said she still supports two rate cuts this year, but that three cuts could be warranted "if we saw more signs that the labor market was more precarious."
St Louis Fed President Alberto Musalem said that a -50 bp rate cut at the September meeting would be "unsupported by the current state of the economy and the outlook for the economy" in his view. He said it is too early for him to make a decision on a rate cut at the September meeting.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Thursday tried to backtrack a bit on his statements on Wednesday in which he said interest rates are "too constrictive" and that rates "should probably be 150, 175 basis points lower." He added, "There's a very good chance of a 50 basis point cut. We could go into a series of rate cuts here, starting with a 50 basis point rate cut in September."
In an interview with Fox Business Thursday, Mr. Bessent said he was not telling the Fed what to do and that he was not calling for a series of Fed rate cuts with his comments on Wednesday. He said he was merely trying to say that models show the neutral rate is lower, although he didn't specify which models he was referring to. Mr. Bessent said he supports transparency and the call to clean up investment conflicts among members of Congress.
In recent tariff news, President Trump early Tuesday extended the tariff truce with China for another 90 days until November. Last Wednesday, Mr. Trump announced that he will impose a 100% tariff on semiconductor imports. Still, companies would be eligible for exemptions if they demonstrate a commitment to building their products in the US. However, the US will levy a separate tax on imports of electronic products that employ semiconductors. Also, Mr. Trump announced last Wednesday that he will double tariffs on US imports from India to 50% from the current 25% tariff, due to India's purchases of Russian oil. Last Tuesday, Mr. Trump said that US tariffs on pharmaceutical imports would be announced "within the next week or so." According to Bloomberg Economics, the average US tariff will rise to 15.2% if rates are implemented as announced, up from 13.3% earlier, and significantly higher than the 2.3% in 2024 before the tariffs were announced.
The market's focus during the remainder of this week is on any tariff-trade news and Friday's Trump-Putin summit. On Friday, July US retail sales are expected to climb +0.6% m/m and retail sales ex-autos are expected to rise +0.3% m/m. Also on Friday, the July industrial production and manufacturing production reports are both expected to remain unchanged m/m. Finally, the University of Michigan's Aug US consumer sentiment index is expected to climb by +0.3 to 62.0.
Federal funds futures prices are discounting the chances for a -25 bp rate cut at 93% at the September 16-17 FOMC meeting and at 53% for a second -25 bp rate cut at the following meeting on October 28-29.
Earnings reports indicate that S&P 500 earnings for Q2 are on track to rise +9.1% y/y, much better than the pre-season expectations of +2.8% y/y and the most in four years, according to Bloomberg Intelligence. With over 82% of S&P 500 firms having reported Q2 earnings, about 82% of companies exceeded profit estimates.
Overseas stock markets on Thursday closed mixed. The Euro Stoxx 50 closed up +0.86%. China's Shanghai Composite posted a 3.75-year high but then fell back and closed down -0.46%. Japan's Nikkei Stock 225 closed down -1.45% and fell back from Wednesday's record high.
Interest Rates
September 10-year T-notes (ZNU25) on Thursday fell by -10.5 ticks, and the 10-year T-note yield rose +5.4 bp to 4.287%. T-note prices fell back on the strong PPI report, which resulted in reduced expectations for Fed rate cuts in the coming months. T-note prices were also undercut after Treasury Secretary Bessent backtracked a bit on his comments Wednesday, in which he called for aggressive Fed interest rate cuts. In a bearish factor, the 10-year breakeven inflation expectations rate on Thursday rose by +2.1 bp to 2.396%.
European government bond yields rose. The 10-year German bund yield rose +3.2 bp to 2.712%. The 10-year UK gilt yield rose +5.1 bp to 4.641%.
Swaps are discounting the chances at 7% for a -25 bp rate cut by the ECB at the September 11 policy meeting.
US Stock Movers
The Magnificent Seven closed mostly higher, with Amazon (AMZN) being the biggest gainer (+2.9%) and Tesla (TSLA) being the largest loser (-1.1%).
Chip stocks closed mixed, clawing back some early losses. Intel (INTL) rose by +7.4%, but Align Technologies (ALGN), Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), and GlobalFoundries (GFS) closed with losses of more than -1%.
Bitcoin (^BTCUSD) fell nearly -4%, dragging crypto stocks lower. Strategy (MSTR) fell -4.4%, while Coinbase (COIN) and MARA Holdings (MARA) both closed down about -0.7%. However, Riot Platforms (RIOT) bucked the trend and closed up +5.7%.
Cisco Systems (CSCO) closed down -1.5% due to cautious management guidance for the current fiscal year.
Deere (DE) fell -6.8% on slightly lower management guidance for full-year net income as lower grain prices and tariff uncertainty are causing some farmers to pull back on equipment purchases.
Dow Inc (DOW) rose +2% on a rating hike to neutral from underperform from BofA Global Research due to its view that the stock is oversold.
NetEase (NTES) fell nearly -4% after a miss on Q2 sales and weaker-than-expected growth in its core gaming segment.
CVS Health (CVS) rose +2.4% on an upgrade from Baird to outperform from neutral due to "growing confidence" in the company's turnaround.

Stocks Close Mixed After Hot PPI Report

Including this morning’s results from Deere & Company DE, Tapestry TPR and others, we now have Q2 results from 461 S&P 500 members or 92.2% of the index’s total membership. Total earnings for these companies are up +11.4% from the same period last year on +5.8% higher revenues, with 80.5% beating EPS estimates and 78.7% beating revenue estimates.
These results have been notably better than what we have been seeing from this group of companies in other recent periods.
Part of the earnings outperformance is a function of how low expectations had become ahead of the start of this reporting cycle, particularly in the wake of the early-April tariff announcements.
The earnings outperformance is much more than above-average proportions of these companies beating consensus EPS and revenue estimates, but rather reflective of an overall resilient earnings picture and in some key respects improving outlook for the back half of the year and beyond.
We see this in the favorable revisions trend for estimates for the current and coming periods, particularly for key sectors like Technology, Finance and others.
This improving earnings outlook should give investors confidence in the fundamental basis of the market’s ongoing momentum.

Stocks Are Mixed After Hot PPI Report

The S&P 500 Index ($SPX) (SPY) is down -0.24%, the Dow Jones Industrials Index ($DOWI) (DIA) is down -0.36%, and the Nasdaq 100 Index ($IUXX) (QQQ) is down -0.11%. September E-mini S&P futures (ESU25) are down -0.39%, and September E-mini Nasdaq futures (NQU25) are down -0.30%.
Stocks are seeing some downward pressure today after today's strong US PPI report and today's +3 bp rise in the 10-year T-note yield. In addition, San Francisco Fed President Mary Daly threw cold water on the idea of a -50 bp rate cut at the September FOMC meeting.

Today's PPI report was much stronger than market expectations. The PPI report suggested that the markets might have been overly optimistic about Tuesday's CPI report and that companies are passing through tariffs at the wholesale level at a higher pace than earlier thought.
The July US final-demand PPI report of +0.9% m/m and +3.3% y/y was substantially stronger than market expectations of +0.2% m/m and +2.5% y/y. The July US core final-demand PPI report of +0.9% m/m and +3.7% y/y was substantially stronger than market expectations of +0.2% m/m and +3.0% y/y.
The markets dialed back expectations for Fed easing in the wake of today's disappointing PPI report. The markets are no longer discounting any chance of a -50 bp rate cut at the September meeting and are now assigning a 93% chance of that rate cut. After Treasury Secretary Bessent's dovish comments on Wednesday, the markets temporarily assigned an 11% chance of a -50 bp rate cut at the September meeting. Nevertheless, the current 93% chance of a -25 bp rate cut in September is still substantially more dovish than the 40% chance assigned before the news of the weak July payroll report on August 1 and the in-line CPI report this past Tuesday.
US weekly initial unemployment claims fell by -3,000 to 224,000, which was close to expectations for a slight decline to 225,000. US weekly continuing claims fell by -15,000 to 1.953 million, which showed a slightly stronger labor market than expectations of a dip to 1.967 million.
San Francisco Fed President Mary Daly told the WSJ that she does not support a -50 bp rate cut at the September meeting, saying that "would send off an urgency signal that I don't feel about the strength of the labor market." Daly said she still supports two rate cuts this year, but that three cuts could be warranted "if we saw more signs that the labor market was more precarious."
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent today tried to backtrack a bit on his statements on Wednesday in which he said interest rates are "too constrictive" and that rates "should probably be 150, 175 basis points lower." He added, "There's a very good chance of a 50 basis point cut. We could go into a series of rate cuts here, starting with a 50 basis point rate cut in September."
In an interview with Fox Business today, Mr. Bessent said he was not telling the Fed what to do and that he was not calling for a series of Fed rate cuts with his comments on Wednesday. He said he was merely trying to say that models show the neutral rate is lower, although he didn't specify which models he was referring to. Mr. Bessent said he supports transparency and the call to clean up investment conflicts by members of Congress.
In recent tariff news, President Trump early Tuesday extended the tariff truce with China for another 90 days until November. Last Wednesday, Mr. Trump announced that he will impose a 100% tariff on semiconductor imports. Still, companies would be eligible for exemptions if they demonstrate a commitment to building their products in the US. However, the US will levy a separate tax on imports of electronic products that employ semiconductors. Also, Mr. Trump announced last Wednesday that he will double tariffs on US imports from India to 50% from the current 25% tariff, due to India's purchases of Russian oil. Last Tuesday, Mr. Trump said that US tariffs on pharmaceutical imports would be announced "within the next week or so." According to Bloomberg Economics, the average US tariff will rise to 15.2% if rates are implemented as announced, up from 13.3% earlier, and significantly higher than the 2.3% in 2024 before the tariffs were announced.
The market's focus during the remainder of this week is on any tariff-trade news and Friday's Trump-Putin summit. On Friday, July US retail sales are expected to climb +0.6% m/m and retail sales ex-autos are expected to rise +0.3% m/m. Also on Friday, the July industrial production and manufacturing production reports are both expected to remain unchanged m/m. Finally, the University of Michigan's Aug US consumer sentiment index is expected to climb by +0.3 to 62.0.
Federal funds futures prices are discounting the chances for a -25 bp rate cut at 93% at the September 16-17 FOMC meeting and at 54% for a second -25 bp rate cut at the following meeting on October 28-29.
Earnings reports indicate that S&P 500 earnings for Q2 are on track to rise +9.1% y/y, much better than the pre-season expectations of +2.8% y/y and the most in four years, according to Bloomberg Intelligence. With over 82% of S&P 500 firms having reported Q2 earnings, about 82% of companies exceeded profit estimates.
Overseas stock markets are mixed. The Euro Stoxx 50 is up +0.29%. China's Shanghai Composite posted a 3.75-year high but then fell back and closed down -0.46%. Japan's Nikkei Stock 225 closed down -1.45% and fell back from Wednesday's record high.
Interest Rates
September 10-year T-notes (ZNU25) are down by -6 ticks, and the 10-year T-note yield is up +2.9 bp at 4.262%. T-note prices fell back today on the strong PPI report, which resulted in reduced expectations for Fed rate cuts in the coming months. T-note prices were also undercut after Treasury Secretary Bessent today backtracked a bit on his comments yesterday, calling for aggressive Fed interest rate cuts. In a bearish factor, the 10-year breakeven inflation expectations rate today is up by +1.0 bp at 2.386%.
European government bond yields are higher. The 10-year German bund yield is up +2.3 bp at 2.703%. The 10-year UK gilt yield is up +2.9 bp at 4.618%.
Swaps are discounting the chances at 7% for a -25 bp rate cut by the ECB at the September 11 policy meeting.
US Stock Movers
The Magnificent Seven are all trading higher today, except for Tesla (TSLA), which is down more than -1%. The leader is Amazon (AMZN) with a gain of more than +2%.
Chip stocks are generally trading lower today on some give-back after yesterday's gains. ON Semiconductors (ON), Microchip Technology (MCHP), Align Technologies (ALGN), and NXP Semiconductors (NXPI) are all down more than -2% today.

Stocks Fall Back on Hot PPI Report

Deere & Company DE has reported third-quarter fiscal 2025 (ended July 27) earnings of $4.75 per share, which beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $4.62. The bottom line, however, decreased 24% from the prior-year quarter on lower shipment volumes.
Net sales of equipment operations (comprising Agriculture, and Turf, Construction and Forestry) were $10.36 billion, down 9% year over year. However, net sales topped the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $10.26 billion. Total net sales (including financial services and others) were $12.02 billion, down 8.6% year over year.

Deere’s Profits Decline in Q3
The cost of sales in the reported quarter was down 3.5% year over year to $7.57 billion. Total gross profit decreased 21.2% year over year to $2.79 billion. Selling, administrative and general expenses fell 4.8% to $1.22 billion from the prior-year period.
Total operating profit (including financial services) slumped 31.7% year over year to $1.57 billion in the fiscal third quarter.
DE’s Segmental Performances in Q3
The Production & Precision Agriculture segment’s sales fell 16% year over year to $4.27 billion due to lower shipment volumes and unfavorable price realization. The figure missed our model’s estimated revenues of $4.30 billion for the quarter. Operating profit decreased 50% year over year to $580 million, attributed to lower shipment volumes/sales mix. Our estimate for the segment’s operating profit was $583 billion.
Small Agriculture & Turf sales fell 1% to $3.03 billion from the year-earlier quarter but were higher than our projected sales of $2.68 billion. Segmental sales were impacted by lower shipment volume, which was partially offset by currency translation and favorable price realization. Operating profit fell 2% year over year to $485 million due to lower shipment volumes and higher warranty expenses, partially offset by price realization. The figure beat our estimate of operating profit of $359 million for the segment.
Construction & Forestry sales were $3.06 million, down 5% year over year, reflecting unfavorable price realization. Our estimate for the segment’s revenues was $3.21 billion. Operating profit decreased 47% year over year to $237 million on unfavorable price realization and higher production costs due to higher tariffs, partially negated by a favorable product mix. Our estimate for the segment’s operating profit was $360 million.
Revenues in Deere’s Financial Services division were $1.42 billion in the reported quarter, down 4% year over year. Our estimate for the segment’s revenues was $1.56 billion. Net income of Deere’s Financial Services division was $205 million in the reported quarter compared with $153 million in the prior-year quarter. The upside was due to lower provision for credit losses.
Deere’s Cash & Debt Position
DE reported cash and cash equivalents of $8.58 billion for the third quarter of fiscal 2025 compared with $7.32 billion at the end of fiscal 2024. The cash flow from operating activities was $3.46 billion in the first nine months of fiscal 2025 compared with $4.14 billion in the prior-year period.
At the end of the quarter, the long-term borrowing was $44.43 billion compared with $43.23 billion at the year-ago quarter’s end.
DE’s 2025 Guidance
Deere expects net income for fiscal 2025 between $4.75 billion and $5.25 billion, narrowed from the prior stated $4.75-$5.50 billion.
Net sales for Production & Precision Agriculture are expected to decrease 15-20% year over year in fiscal 2025.
Sales of Small Agriculture & Turf are expected to decline 10%. Sales of Construction & Forestry are projected to fall 10-15%. The Financial Services segment’s net income is expected to be $770 million.

AGCO Corp. AGCO delivered an adjusted EPS of $1.35 in the second quarter of 2025 compared with the prior-year quarter’s $2.53. The reported figure topped the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $1.06.
AGCO’s net sales decreased 18.8% year over year to $2.36 billion in the June-end quarter. The top line beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $2.48 billion.
CNH Industrial N.V. CNH reported second-quarter 2025 adjusted earnings per share (EPS) of 17 cents, which declined from 38 cents in the prior-year quarter. The figure, however, surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 16 cents.
In the second quarter, CNH’s net sales declined nearly 14% from the year-ago level to $4.71 billion but topped the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $4.53 billion. The company’s net sales from industrial activities came in at $4.02 billion, down 16% due to lower industry demand.
Lindsay Corporation LNN delivered adjusted EPS of $1.78 in the third quarter of fiscal 2025 (ended on May 31, 2025), beating the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $1.36. The company reported earnings of $1.85 in the year-ago quarter. Including an income tax credit of 44 cents per share, EPS in the third quarter of fiscal 2024 were $1.41.
Lindsay generated sales of $169.5 million, up 22% from the $139 million reported in the year-ago quarter. The top line beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $162 million.

Deere Q3 Earnings & Sales Beat Estimates, Dip Y/Y on Lower Volume

Major economic data is out this morning, and it’s having an impact on trading futures. Inflation metrics and employment tallies — both sides of the Fed’s dual mandate — were represented. As a result, the Dow moved from +3 points directly ahead of the releases to -180 points currently, the S&P 500 went from -1 point to -30 points and the Nasdaq slid from +7 to -140. The small-cap Russell 2000 has already given up most of its gains from yesterday, -36 points.
Producer Price Index (PPI) Jumps 90 Basis Points in a Month
Headline PPI — the wholesale side of inflation, as opposed to the retail print Consumer Price Index (CPI) out Tuesday morning — jumped from 0.0% a month ago to +0.9% today, reporting for the month of July. Stripping out volatile food and energy costs, we’re still up 90 basis points (bps) on core PPI month over month. Ex-food, energy and trade, we have tripled expectations to +0.6%. These are now at the hottest levels since 2022.
Year over year is a slightly different story, as early in the year they were still over +3%. July’s headline PPI came in at +3.3% — the highest since February, but also up 90 bps from an upwardly revised +2.4% for June. Core PPI year over year soared +1.1% in one month to +3.7% — the highest level since March. Ex-food, energy and trade rose just 30 bps month over month to +2.8%.
To the extent producer prices lead into consumer prices — not completely, but undeniably part of the economic chain — we might expect higher CPI data as of the September print, which hits the tape roughly a week ahead of the next Fed meeting on interest rate policy. Depending on how high those results become may put the rate-cut being priced into the market currently in jeopardy. At very least, I don’t hear much about a pending 50-bps cut following this PPI report.
Jobless Claims Remain Range-Bound: 224K, 1.95M
Weekly Jobless Claims are also out this morning, being a normal Thursday. Initial Claims dipped -3K to 224K week over week, now sub-230K for 6 straight weeks. (Remember the first week of June was 250K with an upward arrow, but these numbers have methodically diminished since.) Recent lows were +219K four weeks ago.
Continuing Claims notched its 12-straight week above 1.9 million without tipping into the psychologically relevant 2 million longer-term weekly jobless claims. A headline of 1.953 million is down -15K from the downwardly revised 1.968 million the prior week — which, incidentally, is still the highest level we’ve seen since November 2021.
From mid-April through late May, weekly longer-term claims rose +120K. But they have remained frozen just below 2 million since. For some perspective, we spent even a longer time in the 1.8 million range of continuing jobless claims — from late summer 2024 to early spring this year. Also, longer-term claims do have an expiration date, though this is not a straight number across all circumstances.
Earnings Reports Ahead of the Open
Heavy machinery manufacturer Deere & Co. DE posted fiscal Q3 results this morning, outperforming on both top and bottom lines: earnings of $4.75 per share beat the Zacks consensus by +7.8%, while revenues of $10.36 billion outpaced expectations by +1% ahead of the bell. A bevy of publicly-traded Chinese firms are also out with earnings results this morning. JD.com JD posted earnings of 69 cents per share for a +38% positive surprise, while Weibo WB surged past bottom-line estimates by +100% to +54 cents per share. NetEase NTES surpassed expectations by 3 cents per share to $2.07, and Vipshop VIPS beat by a penny to 57 cents. JD, Weibo and VIPS are all up in pre-market trading, while NTES is lower by -6%.

July PPI/Core PPI Jumped Unexpectedly

Major economic data is out this morning, and it’s having an impact on trading futures. Inflation metrics and employment tallies — both sides of the Fed’s dual mandate — were represented. As a result, the Dow moved from +3 points directly ahead of the releases to -180 points currently, the S&P 500 went from -1 point to -30 points and the Nasdaq slid from +7 to -140. The small-cap Russell 2000 has already given up most of its gains from yesterday, -36 points.
Producer Price Index (PPI) Jumps 90 Basis Points in a Month
Headline PPI — the wholesale side of inflation, as opposed to the retail print Consumer Price Index (CPI) out Tuesday morning — jumped from 0.0% a month ago to +0.9% today, reporting for the month of July. Stripping out volatile food and energy costs, we’re still up 90 basis points (bps) on core PPI month over month. Ex-food, energy and trade, we have tripled expectations to +0.6%. Economic Data at 3-Year Highs: PPI, Jobless Claims

Deere (DE) reported $10.36 billion in revenue for the quarter ended July 2025, representing a year-over-year decline of 9.1%. EPS of $4.75 for the same period compares to $6.29 a year ago.
The reported revenue represents a surprise of +0.97% over the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $10.26 billion. With the consensus EPS estimate being $4.62, the EPS surprise was +2.81%.
While investors closely watch year-over-year changes in headline numbers -- revenue and earnings -- and how they compare to Wall Street expectations to determine their next course of action, some key metrics always provide a better insight into a company's underlying performance.
Since these metrics play a crucial role in driving the top- and bottom-line numbers, comparing them with the year-ago numbers and what analysts estimated about them helps investors better project a stock's price performance.
